Work that Endures: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
This message teaches that Jesus is the only foundation and each believer’s work will be tested by fire. Through Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who would not bow to the golden image and walked unhurt in the furnace with one like the Son of God, the speaker urges purposing in our hearts daily to serve God, presenting our bodies as living sacrifices and keeping ourselves holy as God’s temple.
What should Christians ask every day?
Short answer: How can I improve my relationship with Jesus Christ and grow? Nobody can do it for you—like a marriage, it takes time and effort, and like a tree we need a will to grow.
▶ 0:00 welcome to Mountainside we’re going to get right into the word this morning we’re going to be talking about the work that endures. And. We just want to be reminded this morning as. Christians if we’re not waking up every day saying how can I improve my relationship with Jesus Christ how can I grow. Nobody can do it for you. microphone we got to pause for technical difficulties. Station identification they’re going to they’re going to wrap tape around my ear around my face pretty soon I’m just kidding. But our relationship with Jesus Christ it has to grow we don’t want to become unfruitful.
▶ 1:00 Like a relationship with your spouse you know you can’t pay somebody to go and have a relationship with your spouse you have to do it you have to invest the time you have to put in the effort and it’s the same way with Jesus Christ we have to put in the time and the effort and in growing when a tree grows it is just working all the you know plants they just have a will to survive they don’t know anything but to grow they don’t know anything but to live so as soon as they get the sun the nutrients they need they are going to grow as fast as they can as long as they can and we got to have a will like that that says how can I become a Christian how can I become a better Christian today tomorrow the next day amen.
What is the difference between command and demand?
Short answer: Commanding comes with authority. People make demands of God, but they have no authority; God is in command because he has authority. Reading the Bible guards against the devil’s suggestions.
▶ 1:56 There’s a lot of doubts Devil wants to put suggestions in our mind the Devil wants to put and he’ll use people use you know the Devil is as close as the person who is willing to be deceived by it okay if the person if your friend or if remember your spouse whoever it is if they’re willing to be deceived by the Devil the Devil is going to use them to hurt you so you got to be we’ve got to be ready for that kind of stuff and the Bible is so important reading the Bible is so important. And we have to follow his method gotta follow Christ’s method there’s a difference between command and demand does anybody know the difference raise your hand if you know the difference between command and demand God has commandments go ahead tell me [unclear]
▶ 2:54 what is commanding [unclear] commanding that’s good but the key is commanding is somebody who has authority. Jesus Christ has the authority when the atheists and with people in this world religious people whoever make demands of God you have to do this you have to make yourself real to me you’re supposed to be doing things this way you’re they make all these demands you talk to them and oh God’s not like this God’s letting bad things happen to people they have all their questions they’re making demands but they don’t have authority people. They are God’s creation God’s creation if they want to be in charge they got to go beat up God kill God and become God but until that happens God is in command because he has authority.
What is the foundation?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 3:11: no other foundation can anyone lay than Jesus Christ. Jesus is God; Acts 4:12: there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
▶ 3:54 All right so this morning what I’m talking about the work that endures and it starts with the foundation and how to build on that foundation and finally the work that endures is going to be tested and of course we’re going to go into that right now in 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verse 11 for no other foundation can anyone lay then that which is laid which is Jesus. Right Jesus Christ is our foundation and understand that oh I’m sorry the scriptures say in John I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father but by me Jesus is the foundation if you want to grow as a Christian it’s got to start with Jesus it doesn’t start with another God doesn’t start with we all know this but we repeat it okay because we need to make sure you know I’m talking to people at work and they’re talking to people at work and they’re telling them that Jesus isn’t God and that is one of the most foundational things you can know about Jesus he is God Jesus is God God is Jesus the same person Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven talking about Jesus Christ there’s no other name than Jesus Christ so he is our foundation.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV)
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
— 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:16Acts 4:12 (NKJV)
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
— Acts 4:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:05Who builds our lives?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 3:9–10: we are laborers together with God. Paul laid the foundation and another builds on it—let each one take heed how he builds, to code.
▶ 5:20 1st Corinthians 3:9 we are laborers together with God. So God is the one building but we are involved everybody. Everybody here you are involved whether it’s your life or you’re helping build somebody else’s life you’re involved because we all have to engage and put an effort in our relationship with Jesus Christ. So we work together with him why because he’s got the power he’s got the keys he has the ability he’s got what we lack right and we need him to help build our lives and if if you’re someone like [unclear] Mr. Barnes and you’re building other people’s life you need God’s help there too as.
▶ 6:14 A wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation this is Paul talking he’s laid the foundation the foundation is who Jesus Christ and another builds on it so you start with Jesus Christ you accept them into your heart and then you build on it from there you don’t go backwards you go forwards but let each one take heed how he builds when you look at this house it was built to a code they followed specs they followed the walls had to be level okay maybe they weren’t [unclear] it was inspected at the end when they put the the two-by-fours up and all that they did it a proper way they didn’t do it slanted they didn’t do it the wrong way they did it the right way and it’s the same way with being a Christian there is a right and a wrong way to become a Christian.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 3:9-10 (NKJV)
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
— 1 Corinthians 3:9-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:20What makes a house stand?
Short answer: Matthew 7:24–27: whoever hears these sayings and does them is like a wise man who built on the rock; whoever doesn’t do them built on sand, and great was its fall.
▶ 7:12 Now we know the story of the house on the rock in Matthew 7 verse 24 [unclear] we’re going to quickly go over this says in Matthew 7:24 therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine hears and does them I will liken him to a wise man we all want to be wise right when you talk to young people and they you give them a list of things that oh yeah I’m wise and I’m mature. We want to be wise amen when you come and parent when you come when you go out in the work world you realize you know I’m not very wise not as wise as I thought it was when you make your first thousand mistakes you realize I think I think I need to learn something here right amen and my job that’s all I ever did growing up is making mistakes and but I learned from them I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock the rain.
▶ 8:16 Came descended the floods came the winds blew and beat on that house and it did not fall for it was founded on the rock see when the Devil comes when flesh comes what happened oh no signal got disconnected [unclear] things get old is it up there so yeah all right and the rain descended the floods came winds blew and beat on that house and it did not fall for it was founded on the rock. 7:26 so this is going back to the scripture the scripture is saying be careful how you build you’ve got to build correctly and this is talking about the foundation if you build it on the wrong foundation you are going to fall but everyone who hears these sayings of mine and does not do them I mean this is the summary of this message basically you know your God’s word is what we’re hearing oh yeah I need to have my Bible Mr.
▶ 9:23 Barnes [unclear] you have your Bible and I usually [unclear] these things okay here it is these sayings of mine and does not do them he will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand the rain descended the floods came the winds blew and beat on that house and it fell and great was its fall. How many want that in your life no you know you want to keep as many problems out because life is full of problems amen. So you don’t want to invite more stuff that’s bad in and this is again it’s talking about the foundation somebody who’s building their life on the sand that’s not Jesus Christ if you want to build your the way you do things your mentality your what.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
— Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:21How will our work be tested?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 3:12–13: gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or straw—each one’s work will be revealed by fire on the day. He describes what was left after a fire on the church property.
▶ 10:31 Is it your philosophy you know if it feels good do it I can do whatever I want as long as I’m consensual with somebody else you know those are the kind of the philosophies we’re talking about you know if you want to live that way that’s the sand and it’s going to fall that’s not what Jesus said that’s not what the scripture amen amen so. First Corinthians 3:12 this is the key verse in this message now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold silver precious stones wood hay and straw I’m going to stop there as you can see it’s talking about things and each thing is different in how the fire oh I haven’t talked about the fire yet let me go forward each one’s work will become clear for the day the day when it says the day it’s talking about a certain day what day is talking about the end right the day the end will declare it because it will be revealed by fire.
▶ 11:40 The fire will test each one’s work of what sort it is is it good is it a enduring work or is it a work that is not enduring and I have a picture up here of all these different fires here’s one here’s some brush I figured that would be more like hay or straw and as you know we had a fire on the property here and the day after you know I came up and there’s a burst of you know big smell it’s like you know you fall over because of how bad it smells and then you walk around and it is just bare there is nothing except for some dead animals and maybe some trees that could still just little parts that stayed up but for the most part it was it was gone everything was gone and the same was wood fire you know at the end you just have this black useless stuff right.
▶ 12:49 But the gold it melts down and it’ll once it dries you have a gold bar so it [unclear] but when the fire comes it’s going to melt if you’re building a building and that fire is hot enough that gold’s just going to melt right down and on the property when we came and we had some guys come who were training to be cadets or police policemen and they would find all these pieces of metal that were just melted pieces of metal because the fire was so hot that it melted all the metal in anyway that work didn’t the the metal that was melted didn’t hold up. And there’s my daughter each one’s work will become clear it will be [unclear] yes okay.
▶ 13:50 Here’s a picture of a fire that went through all it’s a horrible picture starting he has a car the the metal from the car held up the tires are gone of course here’s a jeep the bars held up but you know this thing’s basically useless right this was a house right [unclear] wood it’s gone what’s standing chimney. Made of stone it’s kind of useless by itself but it’s standing right. And. This is a picture of a brush fire it’s just bare nothing there no nutrients nothing. So we’re going to go to Daniel 3 because we want to understand more about this scripture and I’m going to read a summary of this we got to pull out our Bible so I don’t know who has their Bible this morning I heard somebody does.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (NKJV)
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.
— 1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:55What happened in Daniel 3?
Short answer: Nebuchadnezzar commanded all to worship his golden image; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused. We don’t need to comply when government is wrong.
▶ 14:51 Daniel 3 let’s turn our bibles to Daniel 3. Where is Daniel at does anybody know where Daniel is. You must have a good Bible my numbers different. This is a long story that I’m going to try to summarize it Daniel chapter 3 Nebuchadnezzar had made an image of gold there were three men who were they Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and they. [unclear] and Nebuchadnezzar said you must all bow before.
▶ 15:45 The image of gold and worship the image of gold and the three guys the three guys were the only one that would not do it. Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the immediately cast into the fiery furnace and so all the people would bow down all different languages all the peoples nations and languages fell down and worship the gold image which king Nebuchadnezzar had set up and then the people came up there’s some people that are not doing it. They’re not complying how many guys how many want to be compliers of stupid things I’m not going to comply okay there’s a lot of things going on right now they want us to comply with you don’t necessarily need to comply you know Romans 13 that says that we’re supposed to respect government well now when government’s wrong what does Shadrach Meshach and Abednego they didn’t listen we don’t need to listen you know we don’t need to listen to everything somebody tells us to do.
▶ 16:59 whoever [unclear] there are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon Shadrach Meshach and Abednego these men have not paid due regard to you they do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up so here we got a tattle-tale telling on Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and so Nebuchadnezzar goes he’s like is this true and of course they say yeah it’s true and we’re not doing it and this is why I’m not going to serve your gods I’m going to serve my God and basically. The king got really mad he changed his countenance he became really mean and angry this nice king oh let’s worship the God of gold oh you’re not gonna worship you know he’s the one that’s got to defend the image of gold you know think about that worship the image of gold but he’s the one that’s got to go and make people do it.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 3:1-12 (NKJV)
Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. And King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. So the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then a herald cried aloud: “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”
— Daniel 3:1-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:31 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What did the three men say?
Short answer: Daniel 3:17–18: our God whom we serve is able to deliver us, and he will—but if not, we will not serve your gods. Serving is work; we still work and serve Jesus.
▶ 18:10 You young people back there you must worship Jesus today you will. so I want to go over some scriptures that are important talking about the testing of fire so in Daniel chapter 3 we learn about the image of gold that was set up by king Nebuchadnezzar. All were commanded to worship the image of gold we already learned that Shadrach Meshach and Abednego would not do it and Nebuchadnezzar threatens death so now we’re going to go the scriptures actually what they say so we can get something out of this and how it relates to Corinthians the scripture I just shared okay. So here we go Daniel chapter 3 verse 17 our God whom we serve is able to deliver us so first of all they’re saying our God we’re not serving your God we’re serving our God and he says we serve what’s another word for serve.
▶ 19:14 Huh what’s another word for serve a lot of things I’m looking for a certain word certain word I’m looking for is work and we are allergic to work these days. You know all the sudden Paul says something like you’re not going to get to heaven because [unclear] and that’s true you know if you’re a religious person and you starve yourself and you do all these things that’s not going to get you into heaven but that doesn’t mean you don’t work and serve Jesus Christ you still do that there’s still you know the plant the tree as it’s growing it has to do all this work gathering the the nutrients on the ground getting the water out it has to process that it’s got to get some sun like put the leaves up there’s all this work that goes on and [unclear] just throw it out we don’t have to work anymore no that’s not true every message that I’ve gotten there’s always this part where it’s saying we’ve got to do something we have to be involved we have to put an effort into this thing amen you don’t throw that out.
▶ 20:36 We serve he’s able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace he will deliver us from your hand o king but if not let it be known that we do not serve your God so this statement that he’s saying. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace Jesus Christ he is able to deliver us from hell right amen and he will deliver us from your hand you know basically they’re saying that statement I take this statement as a statement that Jesus Christ can deliver us and he will deliver us from hell he’s got the power and he will do it and then they say if not okay if not let it be known now we know God’s going to do it he’s going to say this but let it be known that we do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 3:17-18 (NKJV)
If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”
— Daniel 3:17-18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:56Is gold or money bad?
Short answer: No, but making it more important than God’s commandments is greed—doing whatever it takes to get money puts it above God.
▶ 21:31 Up. sorry I’m going to check my notes here make sure I don’t miss something. Is gold a bad thing gold’s kind of like money right is money a bad thing see but they wanted to take the gold and they said okay now you got to worship it right it’s kind of like money I want you to worship it now I want you to I want you to live your life for this now I want you to seek after this so much and worship it and let it be your God that way what we do with money no what is that called it’s called greed right. And. When we do that it because when it becomes more important then God’s commandments see this is a key here you see when you put money when you put all these things above God’s words.
What happened to the mighty men?
Short answer: Daniel 3:19–22: the furnace was heated seven times hotter and the flame killed the men who threw them in. Famous people saying something is right doesn’t make it right; people without protection face judgment.
▶ 22:35 When all of a sudden you will do whatever it takes you know women you know you can prostitute yourselves men you can just step over people you know just be horrible do things that are wrong. Do whatever it takes to get money. You’ve made it you put it above God now I’m not talking about working hard and not talking about all the work that has to be done I’m talking about things that are wrong and so we go on. There’s a lot of value and a lot of things on the earth but we do not serve them amen Daniel chapter 3 verse 19 then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and he commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated and the mighty men came they were commanded to bind them and cast them into the fire.
▶ 23:37 Now here we have a high-ranking mighty man right and here they are coming to bind them and throw them in and today in America we have some high-ranking you know there’s a lot of famous people that thinks they’re really all that and a bag of chips they think they know what morals are and they’re trying to tell us what morals are you know and I’m I’m talking to young people back there just because the famous people say something’s right doesn’t make it right. Okay and I’ll tell you why the men the mighty men bound these guys and they went to the fire they went to cast them in and you know what happened. Because the furnace was exceedingly hot the flame of fire killed those men who took up Shadrach Meshach and Abednego.
▶ 24:38 They had no protection and we’ve got to realize that folks a lot of people are going to hell you know the scriptures say in Romans that or Corinthians because we know this we persuade men we’ve got to get out there we’ve got to persuade men this is important we don’t want people going to hell but people are there is a judgment there is there is a consequence. When they come to the fire and and their life and their choices are tested against the fire they’re not going to hold up. They have nothing keeping them from going to hell except time right now they have time to make the choice right now we have time to decide and all three men fell down down in the midst of the fiery burning fiery furnace and the.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 3:19-22 (NKJV)
Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.
— Daniel 3:19-22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:15What did the king see in the fire?
Short answer: Daniel 3:24–25: four men loose walking in the fire, unhurt, and the fourth like the Son of God. They had purposed in their hearts long before.
▶ 25:49 King was astonished he rose up in haste and he spoke and he said his counselors did we not cast three men bound to the bounded in the midst of the fire and they answered and said to the king true. And he said I see four men loose walking on this of the fire and they have no hurt. You know how many you guys want to be able to walk through hell and it not bother you how many of us you know even if that we were brought to hell it doesn’t affect us. They have no hurt these guys God had protected them what they decided what they chose do we see that in these guys you see everybody else was bowing down to.
▶ 26:48 The image with all that includes the mighty men that includes everybody. The mighty men went before the fiery furnace and they were tested their work their life their choices were tested and they didn’t hold up but Shadrach Meshach and Abednego went before the fire and they were not hurt right. The fourth was like the son of God. These guys we know their story we know their history they were with Daniel [unclear] at the beginning of this they were serving God them and Daniel they were they they wouldn’t bow they wouldn’t participate they’ve been doing this a long time they had decided a long time ago like Mr.
▶ 27:43 Barnes taught us so many times they purposed right Mr. Barnes they purposed in their heart every morning you’ve got a purpose in your heart you got to decide I’m going to serve God today I’m going to serve God I’m going to come closer to Jesus I’m going to have a better relationship with Jesus Christ and when their work was tested it stood up it had the fire had no effect on his men. And. Also. Jesus Christ is the one who came he didn’t send an angel he said the fourth is like the image of the son of God I love how Jesus does things himself when he comes he comes himself when he speaks to you he speaks to you himself he doesn’t use the substitute well that’s like I’m just saying Jesus Christ is involved and we need that we need the real deal.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 3:24-25 (NKJV)
Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
— Daniel 3:24-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:06 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How untouched were they?
Short answer: Daniel 3:27–28: not a hair singed, nor the smell of fire on them. God delivered his servants who trusted him and yielded their bodies.
▶ 28:53 The princes and the captains and the kings and counselors being gathered together they saw these men they witness these men go into the fire. And. How many know that’s a big deal. You know we want people to see that. When we’re tested we can handle it people will see that there’s testing that goes on now and people want to see how we respond how we react amen. The fire had no power nor was any hair on their head singed neither were their coats changed or the smell of the fire had passed on them not even the smell. They didn’t smell like.
▶ 29:46 The kingdom of darkness. They didn’t have any relations with that you know you can go you can hang around bad people or not have any characteristics related to them it’s okay I mean can you do that. Will they have an effect on you that’s what I’m saying will they have an effect on you when you’re around people will they have an effect on you. See when you’re in the church and some bad people come come on they don’t have any effect on you right right I’m a little confusing right now that’s okay I’ll just keep going Daniel 3:28 blessed be the God of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego who has sent his angel and delivered his servants and here he goes he begins to say why this all happened he’s talking about Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and he’s given us the key what did they do it says that they trusted.
▶ 30:50 3:28 you can read it [unclear] is looking it up number one Christian. They they trusted. they changed the king’s word they changed Nebuchadnezzar’s mind they changed by what they chose to do a long time ago you see this was years they decided years ago to serve God and all of a sudden they’re being tested. And. Now the king the king wasn’t affected before but now when they’re tested he sees the real deal he saw the son of God and you see that’s the key we want people to see the son of God we want people to hear the son of God.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 3:27-28 (NKJV)
And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!
— Daniel 3:27-28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:46What does God ask of our bodies?
Short answer: Romans 12:1–2: present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God; be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
▶ 31:44 You know I don’t need to argue like we’ve been hearing we don’t need to argue when Jesus comes when Jesus does the touching when Jesus does the speaking it makes all the difference. they yielded their bodies this is what Nebuchadnezzar is saying that these guys yielded their body they gave up what they wanted to do you know as a young person that’s hard as an old person that’s hard wherever you’re at it’s hard you don’t like giving up all the things that you want to do but these guys did it they purposed in their heart. Romans 12 verse 1 I beseech you brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice.
▶ 32:42 You know when it’s time to praise God it might be a sacrifice but you praise God you open up your mouth you lift your hands you praise you clap when it’s time to go to work you go to work Christians work. Present your bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God. Acceptable that means that he doesn’t accept certain things that means that there’s there’s behavior that is unacceptable. [unclear] that’s unacceptable. You know it’s the same thing with God there are certain things we do that are unacceptable. Are we or do we have a desire to be holy that’s what you know this world we got it they need to decide if they’re going to be holy or not.
▶ 33:45 Which is your reasonable service do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God see these guys it says Nebuchadnezzar is the one saying this ok I just want to remind you he’s the one whose mind has been changed and he’s saying that these guys yielded their bodies they gave up they presented themselves a living sacrifice to Jesus Christ they were willing to give up their life. And he repeats and he says that they are not serving or worshipping any God but their own God except their own God they’re only serving their own God and that’s the key. Young people back there old people. We’ve got to decide you know serving God is work.
Scripture in this part
Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
— Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:30What happens when work is tested?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 3:14–15: if the work endures he receives a reward; if burned he suffers loss, but is saved. The king promoted the three men (Daniel 3:30).
▶ 34:43 Making the effort growing that’s all work. Now when you when you wake up you’ve got to decide whether or not you’re going to give God some of your time that day whether or not you’re gonna you know how do you how do you serve God if you don’t even know what he wants from you you know what’s on the menu how can I serve you God well I don’t know I don’t know what does God say I don’t know what God says well you got to read. every day we’ve got to decide. and first Corinthians 13:14 the work is tested by fire and if anyone’s work which he has built on it endures he will receive a reward.
▶ 35:39 How many like a reward. We love reward right and Daniel 3 verse 30 then the king what’d he do he promoted he went from throwing them into the fire to promoting them and the province of Babylon. I want to be promoted you know the Bible says that they’re going to be people that are giving crowns and yeah we’re going to [unclear] our crowns but [unclear] we got a crown that’s great and Jesus all because of Jesus that hey I got a crown. If anyone’s work is burned he will suffer loss but he himself will be saved [unclear] and this is this is the example of somebody who you know like
▶ 36:41 [unclear] he has invested so much time Mr. Barnes invested so much time into our lives as young people and he spent years and hours working right. And trying to help us develop into Christians same thing [unclear] and all the staff that are here they try and work with kids you know helping them get to the next step and then the next person comes and they build on that and the next person comes and they build on that you know when I got into church service I was a teenager and somebody had did I’ve done a lot of groundwork and then I sat in church and listened to [unclear] and Hey I could understand because I knew that the answer was always Jesus.
▶ 37:36 But you see it’s the work that he’s talking about is you working on your own life you see you’re going to suffer loss in your own life you’re not going to inherit the kingdom of God you see if you decide to serve another God if you decide to say I’m in charge I know what’s right and wrong you know the Bible is not right and the Bible is very confrontational it’s going to tell you what sin is it’s going to tell you what’s right and wrong and if you want to go against that that’s your choice but your choices that are not biblical are not going to hold up to the fire and you’re going to lose your life you’re going to lose eternal life. Amen. And we don’t want that the mighty men were killed by the fire and that is an example of people even though we think we’re maybe we have a lot of money maybe we’re number one in this group or that group doesn’t matter you got to go with what the Bible says where does God put you maybe you’re in charge of all your friends.

1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (NKJV)
If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
— 1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:27 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Daniel 3:30 (NKJV)
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.
— Daniel 3:30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:47Why must we be holy?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 3:16–17: you are the temple of God and the Spirit dwells in you; the temple is holy. Pushes to accept sex outside marriage, homosexuality, drugs and drunkenness won’t hold up against the fire; God loves us, corrects us and will judge.
▶ 38:52 Maybe you’re high on the list you know everybody respects you everybody listens to you but that’s not what it’s about. And. This is important 1st Corinthians 3:16 do you not know that you are the temple of God that the spirit of God dwells in you. And it’s and the reason why I saying this is because you’re supposed to be building something right you’re supposed to be building your house because you are housing the spirit of God and you want to keep the spirit in you right so when the fire comes [unclear] everything burns up you don’t have them in you anymore. You want the work to hold up you know the work that Shadrach Meshach and Abednego did was better than gold gold would have melted but those guys were not affected I want to be like those guys.
▶ 40:03 If anyone defiles the temple of God God will destroy him for the temple of God is holy [unclear] is holy. amen which temple you are. Today we’re talking about ourselves. You are to be holy you are the temple of God. You know all the rules laid out in Moses and Exodus you can’t do this you can’t do that all on the temple you’re the temple. The three young men they did not follow everyone else into sin amen and there’s a big push to believe and follow to accept everything that we’re told there’s a but there’s a push to accept homosexuality is okay there’s a push there’s been a push for years before I was even born that sex with whoever is okay you can have sex with somebody before marriage outside of marriage it’s all okay we have an open relationship it’s not okay.
▶ 41:29 It’s not going to hold up against the fire you know now we got marijuana is legal in California let’s all go do drugs it’s not going to hold up. It’s not going to hold us just because somebody says it’s legal just because they legalize alcohol it’s not going to hold up that behavior when you stand before God and he says were you [unclear] intoxication are you getting intoxicated all all the time and I would remind the young people on Friday I said you know when you get intoxicated and you’re taking care of your kids you know you can black out and [unclear] your kids who knows what’s happening what’s going on I had that happen to somebody that we knew you know the dad was getting intoxicated and there was black out watching his daughter that’s a big problem.
▶ 42:25 And all the other horrible things that go on I mean that’s very mild. Each one’s work will become clear for the day we’ll declare it because it will be revealed by fire and the fire will test each one’s work this morning I want to remind you guys scriptures are reminding about us that we have work to do we have to work every day not just you know and it’s tiring just having a family is a lot of work but also you’ve got to work on your relationship with Jesus Christ you’ve got to do his work are you following the behavior he wants when you read the scriptures are you going to do what you hear from the scriptures.
▶ 43:27 Because it’s going to be tested amen and we need to know this we got to make sure we’re preaching this message this is the message we preach because it is the Bible it is what Jesus says I’m not going to tell you we’re not going to tell you that all the behavior that you want to do that bad is okay that there’s no consequence there’s a consequence now and there’s a consequence when you die you’re going to stand before God and we love you. the father loves whom he corrects God loves us even when he tells us we’re doing what’s wrong. So it’s time to respond now. You know he loves us no matter what he loves us unconditionally I mean he does love us but you’ve got to understand he’s going to judge everyone.
▶ 44:29 And it says in Corinthians he’s going to judge according to what you done was it good or was it evil it’s so simple where do we get this message that you can do anything you want and it’s not biblical at all. Yes he loves you but his love will correct you his love will drive you to the word of God to listen and to obey it that’s what the love of God will do uh-huh. The kingdom of God suffers violence the violent take it by force we want to remind you that there is a battle going on we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness we have a battle a battle it’s work you
▶ 45:23 Know I’m just going to keep saying there’s work to be done amen and we’ve got to work on our own house and once we’re good to go I mean even while we’re building our own house make sure you’re on the right track and then start helping other people you know when you’re a kid like I was 10 11 that’s a great time I needed some help and you guys invested in my life you’ve invested in a lot of people’s lives. Let’s bow our heads I’m going to invite [unclear] to come and we’re going to sing that song out of Romans I will give myself to thee. And. Let’s bow our heads close our eyes. Let’s just meditate on this word this morning we want to be people that can handle the testing in the end we’re going to be tested by fire in the end our behavior our actions our choices are going to be tested they’re going to be tried.
▶ 46:47 Did this behavior can it hold up against the word of God does it hold up against the spirit of God does it hold up. God is reminding us this morning that there is a people there is a way to go to the fire without being affected and burned and hurt and that is by serving Jesus with all of your heart. By deciding today deciding tomorrow every day that you are purposing like these three young men did a purpose in their heart to give it everything they had to. Know what God’s word said and to follow it. This morning we’ve got to respond this morning God is challenging us are you going to serve me are you going to wake up every day and say God what can I do are you going to wake up every day and say Jesus I’m going to do this at this time because I want to spend time with you.
▶ 47:56 Every day we got to make a choice are we going to invest time in Jesus Christ and that is the key that is the key that is what these three men did they made time to worship they made time to know his word they made time to serve him to follow his word. And God is asking us this morning no matter where you go some people may be going to other states they may be moving out of town nowhere nowhere no matter where you go we have to decide. So let’s start with this song and I want to invite you to stay in and sing this song with us but let’s learn what the song says I will give myself to thee a living.
▶ 48:54 Sacrifice. Holy. And. Acceptable. Unto. God. I. Will not be conformed to this world but be. Transformed by the renewing. of my mind. We’re going to sing this again but when we’re done we’re going to stop it we’re going to pray as they continue to play we’re going to sing this one more time and then we’re going to pray God. And we’re going to ask God we’re going to commit to God and say Jesus I’m going to commit to you I want to be like those three men I want to be unaffected by the fire I want to be tested God I want to grow I can you know and you got to pray this to Jesus this morning so let’s sing this one more time and then we’re going to lift up our voices and pray and ask God to come I will give myself to thee a living.
▶ 50:10 Sacrifice. Holy. And acceptable. To God. I will not be conformed to this world. but be transformed by the renewing. of my mind. Let’s lift up our voice and commit to God this morning Jesus Lord I come before you God Jesus I want to be like these men Lord I want to be vigilant Jesus I want to be [unclear] for the house of God I want to be a.
