Who is your Father - September 15, 2024: full transcript and answers

▶ 0:07 We’re going to be talking about what is a Christian this morning we’ve been uh with the last three sessions we’ve been talking about what is a Christian and in the first session we went over the Antioch church where they were first called Christians and we went over what they did what they said who they were all about uh in the second session we talked about Paul and how he said said imitate me as I imitate Christ or another version puts it follow my example as I follow the example of Christ and then we went to Christ himself and saw how he lived his life and what he said and uh. Oops how he lived his life in what he said today we’re going to be looking at the father the heavenly father and yes Jesus the father the spirit are all one Jesus said if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the father as we learned last week they’re all the same and it doesn’t work like a human being okay God knows who he is it’s we that have a problem with him.

▶ 1:17 Okay the father’s character in ro numbers chapter 23:19 uh I think they’ve handed out some sheets there for you to follow along and you can take this home you can read these scriptures you can see if I’m lying to you um and you can listen to this later on facebook if you’d like or on youtube and go along let God get his word into you uh the words from the scriptures are powerful God’s word is powerful and it is life it says that the the word of God is living sharper than a two-edged sword able to divide the soul.

Liar he is not a man and he is not a liar when he says something you better listen you better take note of it because it’s either going to come to pass or it is truth he’s not mincing words he’s not flattering he’s speaking and he’s saying listen to me I am telling you the truth nor a son of man that he should repent you see we all in here we’re we’re sons and daughters right when you go uh when you’re kid and you grow up you’re learning in school and you don’t know how things work and you make mistakes that’s not who God is he is the answer he is the truth okay that is his status he’s not a man that he should repent why because he didn’t do anything wrong has he said and will he not do when jes when God says something like when he spoke the world into into being it happened he said let there be light and light came light showed up.

▶ 3:14 Right Hebrews chapter 6: 18 it is impossible for God to lie I’m just showing you um you know I I can’t share anything other than what’s in the Bible all right so I’m not going to give you my opinion I’m I’m showing you in the scriptures here confirming what the scriptures say the scriptures confirm the scriptures Deuteronomy 32:4 his work is say that with mef perfect all his ways are judgment you know when we’re wronged by people it’s not God’s fault his works are perfect well he made the person well the person’s not listening to. Him for all his ways are judgment a God of truth without injustice this righteous and upright is he so our God all his ways are judgment our God is a God of truth uh he’s he’s the epitome of righteous and upright and so here with these scriptures we recognize that God cannot.

▶ 4:18 Lie um we may have our atheistic questions out there right why would God allow this why would God allow that uh why would God do this why would he judge uh a whole nation and country or even children uh first of all most of the time it’s not God who did it it’s people’s sin and people rejecting him rejecting listening to him acting out and hurting one another see God it says he made us good remember when he said he made us he said he looked at everything and said what it is good. But we came up with our own ways to hurt one another and to reject. God and also after Noah’s flood God gave us the responsibility of holding people accountable for their behavior and that’s why we have law enforcement that’s why we have u you know judges we we have to hold each other accountable and if we’re not that’s on us you understand that according to the scriptures that is on us God has said we are in charge of keeping people accountable we are in charge of those.

▶ 5:46 Judgments and secondly and most importantly you may question God now but there is coming a day when he will st when we will stand before God and he will question us in job chapter 38:3 God questioned job uh you notice chapter 38 there right so job had 37 chapters where he is mouthing off he and his friends are m God is this and God is that and oh my God and chapter 38 God shows up in a tornado and he starts questioning job. And by the four chapters later in chapter 42 job wisely responded and said uh he wisely responded to God with humility and we should do the same don’t wait till you’re standing before him after you die the Bible says that all will stand before the judgment seat of Christ in Corinthians amen don’t wait until that day it’s time that we hear let him question us now so we can respond.

▶ 7:03 And you can find his questions in the Bible Exodus 32:33 whoever has sinned against me I will blot him out of my book uh we don’t want to be blotted out of the book I’m Exodus 32:33 is coming out of um the Israelites and they had done something I’m going to tell you what they did so Israel got their money together they contributed to building a golden calf and they gave it to Aaron they said all right here’s all of our money together make us a God and uh you know they made a God out of it they planned and threw a party for the golden calf they worshiped it and they sacrificed it and uh God’s talking to Moses he says hey you need to go back down people have already corrupted they’ve already gone from me I saved them through the red sea I saved them from Egypt they’re here and now they made a golden calf and they’re worshiping the golden calf uh man we forget real quick don’t we and we can point the finger at them and say oh yeah those people they’re they’re stupid but you know we act the same way we can we can be just like that they invested their time their money and their devotion to this calf.

▶ 8:27 And there are certain things in our life that belongs to God believe it or not a portion of our money belongs to God a portion of our time a portion of our work and all of our praise belongs to God amen acts chapter 3:2 Jesus is the prophet sent him you shall hear in all things so God is speaking through who Jesus Christ so it’s very important we know what Jesus said Acts 3:19 says the solution to being blotted out of his book which you don’t want is to what say it. Repent repent means to change your mind you have a choice to make are you going to change your mind.

▶ 9:22 Remember we have free will we have the choice of uh first of all we we get our ideas they start in the mind right and then we act them out so you have to come into your mind and say okay I’m going to stop making the golden calf I’m going to stop uh giving my portion of God’s time and God’s money and God’s the work that I’m supposed to to for God I’m going to give that back to him you got to change starts here in your mind and it says therefore be converted so conversion is the actual actions that you are doing okay it me means that turning you’re not going to give any money anymore to the golden calf you’re not going to be out there partying for the gold you’re not participating in that you’re not giving your time or your praise to that you are keeping that for. God and as Christians and the church and the throughout the world we have to decide who we’re going to serve where are we going to take uh give God the portion that belongs to him.

▶ 10:32 And it says that your sins may be what blotted out so he’s blotted out of his out of his book and then now here he says uh our sins can be blotted out or as it says in other places the remission of sin so the solution is simple we got to hear Christ right hear Christ repent change your mind and be converted turn okay it’s not just having faith the faith comes by hearing right and then you have the action steps faith leads you to this action of repentance and conversion. Amen I you guys don’t agree with me fine that’s fine all right I’ll just keep moving forward who do you follow who is your father so Jesus here is going to simply uh help us understand that it’s evident by your deeds you do the deeds of your what father so we’re talking about what is a Christian how do I have I know I’m a Christian you act like the person who gave you.

▶ 11:49 Life and so the question is who is giving you your the input in your life who are you modeling your behavior after. Okay when you have a child and they grow up and they’re young and they’re just dad d da and they get four years old they start to act like you that’s what these pictures show here you see the little boy he’s shaving with his dad he’s acting like his dad the other one is dressing like his dad you got the other guy over here maybe he’s in the mafia I don’t know they got the hat on and the glasses they’re going to take some the stormtrooper definitely they’re going to they’re going to hurt somebody I know I know it’s uh they’re just dressing. The deeds of your father you do your real spiritual fathers determined by whom you obey who do you follow who do you.

▶ 12:44 Imitate John 8:44 you are of your father the say it Devil Jesus says this in readed letters he’s talking to the Pharisees and he says why the desires of your father you want to do what did they want to do to Jesus they wanted to murder him they hated him okay does the desire to murder somebody come from God no where does that come from that comes from the kingdom of darkness okay that comes from the Devil not that hard right he was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth there is no no truth in him he is a liar and the father of it so when we lie when we follow lies when we speak lies and try to convince people of our deception we are acting like the father of those things and who is the father of those things the Devil.

▶ 14:04 I’m going to take a moment here for the Bible scholar going back to the um Jesus said from the beginning right a murderer from the beginning what is he talking about uh if you guys remember the story of Cain and Abel uh it says in the scriptures the voice of your brother brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground so now you are cursed from me earth which has opened its mouth to receive your bl brother’s blood and when you till the ground you’re going to be a fugitive a vagabond you shall be on the earth and Cain said I shall be a fugitive it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me and God says to him whoever kills Cain vengeance will be taken on him so this historical event that Cain killing Abel is pointing to Christ in his church and actually that event points to Jesus Christ and the the way he was treated it’s an illustration many stories that you find in the Old Testament are illustrations of Jesus’s coming and what would happen Cain represents the religious Jews and the people of Israel that would not transition to believing in Christ when he came Cain killed his brother.

▶ 15:23 The religious uh can killed his brother the religious Jews killed one of their own Jesus was a Jew and they killed their own people and later when uh the Christians started to branch out in acts they persecuted and killed. Those. Christians so their hatred turned to battery and then they murdered Christ uh and in 70 ad the temple was destroyed of Israel.

Dispersed they became fugitives and b vagabonds on the earth this happened to the Jews right and now anybody who messes with Israel in our time uh you know they’re they fight back and God keeps them takes care of them I don’t want to get into that I’m just saying that that that story is an illustration it’s worth looking into for the Bible scholars so back to from the beginning the Devil Genesis 46 God comes to Cain and he says why are you angry why has your countenance fallen if you do will well will you not be accepted if you do not do well sin lies at your door its desire is for you but you should rule over it so he has this talk with God right.

▶ 17:00 Cain talks to God God talks to Cain what are you doing what’s going on you you got you have these bad desires in your heart he knows what’s happening in his heart and uh he says to Cain you should rule over it so you can rule over it you can stop this hatred that you have in your heart you can address it there’s something that the Holy Spirit calls self-control right it’s a fruit of the spirit you can have self-control where you don’t want to hurt other. People uh a lot of good that conversation did because Cain then has a conversation with Abel and he gets all mad and upset and kills him and so Cain had a choice of who he was going to follow was he going to follow the father in heaven or is he going to follow his own desires that are rooted in the kingdom of darkness this is very similar to what Christ said to the religious Jews he did not address it his anger in his heart it started as a desire which grew and turned into action.

▶ 18:09 And it’s very important as a Christian as a person who says yes I believe in Christ okay are you imitating your father okay it’s not wrong to have desires that are bad it you have to address those desires before they turn into action amen it is natural for us to desire the opposite sex but you have to address the desire in your heart before it turns into a sinful action. Don’t follow remember uh Satan he he the thief comes to what steal we don’t want to act like him John chapter 8:55 what is the proof that we are related to the father Jesus is going to show us here in just a moment you have have not known him Jesus is talking about the father you have not known him but I know him if I say do not know him I shall be a what liar like you these guys are go around saying oh we know the God we are he’s our father and and he’s saying you’re lying through your mouth you’re lying through your teeth and Jesus says I know him and I keep. His word and so what is that proof that we are related to the father we keep his word uh very simple right if when you’re in your dad’s house your father’s house and your little kid and he says hey can you pick that up uh and you do it uh well you know depends what house you’re in right but for the most part children obey their father they don’t have another guy coming in that they’re listening to hopefully they’re listening to their father.

▶ 20:27 Right Matthew 33 whatever they tell you to observe that observe and do but do not do according to their works Jesus is talking about the religious Jews here who would say the right thing but would not do it themselves and that was the u indication that they did not have they were not of the Father in America. Today one four children children live without a father they live without a stepfather they live without an adopted father they live without any father that is 25% that’s one in four children today that is a lot of children children that live in these father absent homes account for 63% of suicides as youth 90% of all homeless and runaway youths come from fatherless.

▶ 21:32 Homes 85% of all children exhibiting behavioral disorders 85% of youths in prison come from fatherless. Homes 70% of youths in in state operated institutions come from fatherless homes the father is very important we need to follow our father. If you’re in this situation if you have you’re in a fatherless home Christ can help you break the cycle right you don’t want to become a statistic here it doesn’t matter how many family members have repeated the same behavior Jesus Christ his blood his power can open the prison door to those who are bound Christ can open your prison he can rescue you out of a bad bad cycle that’s what he says uh when he stood up to read and he said the spirit of the Lord is upon me he has anointed me to set the captive free to open the prison door that is what he’s talking about you don’t have to repeat the same behavior Jesus Christ can change.

▶ 22:48 You Psalms 27:10 when my father and my mother forsake me the Lord will take care of me. God can help with your emotional needs he can help put people in your path that can help with your natural needs God is looking out for you he can look out for you but we’ve got to submit unto him Jesus Christ can rescue you out of that bad cycle the heavenly father John chapter 316 most famous verse everybody knows it God so loves it starts with God’s love amen God so loved the world that he gave his only son and whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life maybe you didn’t have such a great life on earth well God can improve that life and he can also set you on a path for everlasting life why because he loves you he loves you Romans 58 God demonstrates his own love toward us and that while we were still sinners he died for us amen this is one of the reasons that.

▶ 24:05 Christianity is true over other religions that God demonstrates his love for us through his death on the cross for our sin Christ became the substitute we deserve the punishment of the cross and the torment but he took it upon himself for us and we may say where is the proof that Jesus came 2,000 years ago where is the proof that Christ has the right to take our sin where is the proof that Christ loves us yes I’ve heard the story that he died on the cross but first of all that was 2,000 years ago we don’t even know if it happened we don’t even know if God if Jesus is really God you don’t know you’re just believing but a book. Romans 8:38 and I will answer that question in just a moment I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

▶ 25:22 I’m confirming here that God loves us from the scriptures there there’s nothing that can separate you there’s no demon there’s no Devil the Devil himself the strongest prince of the pality I don’t care in the kingdom of darkness who they are they cannot separate you from the love of God 1 John 3:1 behold what manner of love the father has bestowed on us that we should be called children of God maybe you’re an orphan maybe you don’t have a father or mother maybe you’ve been mistreated Jesus Christ God will be the best father the best parent the best improvement in your life now to answer that last question where is the proof where where’s the proof that Christ has the right I want to show you this video here real quick this is short now this uh is a satanist and he’s in south africa and uh he was doing a ritual in this in the Satan church he was doing a ritual you know he’s in the Satan church they do rituals I don’t know what they do they do everything opposite to what we do you know instead of praising God they praise Satan you know do you want to go there h do you realize that this is like the polar.

Be uh mimicked it’s powerful it’s real when I was 12 years old I met God for the first time in my life in a teen service and it was so powerful I wept on the floor and and I could feel a hug of love all over me and I was weeping my my tears were on the ground and I was on my knees just crying and I could not believe it was that real the God that my parents kept kept me going to church like okay mom and dad yes I okay we go.

Please but then when you meet the real thing it changes everything and that’s what he experienced and he has a choice of whether or not he’s going to continue serving God or u let that experience fall the ground we all have a choice amen but still God is showing himself to muslims in other countries God is showing some himself to people like this that are entrenched now I encourage you do not go this route don’t go his route right I can’t tell you why Jesus showed up in his life and you know we can’t confirm all that but what he’s saying is the love of God came to him and he is different now and he has videos online where he’s talking about change I just wanted to share that with you real.

▶ 31:58 Right you can’t do anything and so Satan he wants to separate you he wants to pull you apart he also wants to do that with God’s church remember we are the body of Christ and he wants to separate us pull us apart and I encourage you afterwards we are here we are we have assembled it says forsake not the assembling of yourselves together even uh even more so as you see the day coming uh but to encourage one another to inspire one another to um encourage one another to love and good works that’s what we should be doing today afterwards all right we’re here to love one another not harm one another and the same way with Satan he wants to pull you apart so that you become useless not useless I’m sorry so that you become.

But Christ has prayed for us now you may have heard of a a lot of bad things and maybe the kingdom of darkness and uh maybe curses you know all this stuff going on will hold on now when Jesus prays for you the son of the living God God himself you better watch out. World cuz the king of all the earth the Lord of heaven and earth is praying for. You so whatever he’s praying for is going to happen whatever he’s praying for is going to is backed up. Okay we got to get away from this this thing that uh the kingdom of darkness has so much power they don’t when Christ prays for you when Christ when he comes in the middle.

No my sheep hear my voice I know them and they follow me going back to the father here what is a Christian a Christian is someone who hears and follows I give him eternal life ne neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand and those whom you gave me I have kept and none of them is lost so so the father’s hand nobody can uh come in and try to pull you away from God. Okay and that’s what these scriptures uh say but we must understand the other side there’s always a balance to everything if you remember the story of the prodical son in Deuteronomy 31: 6 let me say this one first to confirm he will never leave you nor forsake you see no one can take you out of God’s hand he will never leave you nor forsake you but here in the prodical son story Luke 15:13 not many days after the younger son gathered all together and he journeyed to a far country he left his father Judges 2:12 says they forsook the Lord God of their ancestors.

▶ 35:28 Who had brought them out of Egypt and they followed and worshiped various other gods so you can get out of God’s hand how do you get out of God’s hand. Simply leave. God God is not saying that uh you know he’s going to hold on to you whether you like it or not he’s saying that while you decide to be with him no one can mess with you and touch you the kingdom of of darkness doesn’t have those rights to come in and snatch. You and so this son put distance between himself and his father uh excuse me sir you’re making a lot of noises and distractions can you please quiet. Down we like to blame God for being distant and hard to understand but we are the ones putting dist distance between ourselves and God Luke.

▶ 36:32 15:13 there he wasted his possessions with wild living so anything that you may have had from God is wasted once you get into the kingdom of darkness maybe you grew up in church and you decided to leave God and now you’ve wasted everything that was given to you by God Isaiah 59 your iniquities have separated you from God so if you want to separate yourself from God go ahead and live this do the sin that you want to do do your iniquities it’s going to create that distance between you and God and you’re also forsaking his kingdom and when you do that you you’re out of his kingdom.

▶ 37:20 Luke 15:14 when he had spent all there arose a severe famine in that land and he began to be in want uh please understand here that the father’s house was not affected by this famine it was this country that he went to live in and many times it’s our own choices that bring harm into our lives if you want to leave God you’re going to have a famine and all the stuff you had before the joy the peace all the fruits of the spirit anything that you may have gotten as a Christian it’s not going to be in the kingdom of darkness you’re going to be in a famine of those things and you’re going to begin to be in what want you’re going to desire those things Luke chapter 15:15 he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country is that the father’s country no that’s whose country whatever the you know not the father’s country.

▶ 38:31 So who in this story is his father now he has rejected his own father and joined himself to someone else and it doesn’t really matter who you’re joining yourself to whether it’s a person whether it’s another group whether it’s another religion if you’re not joined back with the father you have rejected Christ you’ve rejected the heavenly father you’re not a Christian Luke chapter 1520 he arose and came to his father while he was still far off his father saw him had compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him the father said to his servants bring the best robe and put it on him so even though the father may have to you know he’s going to stay in his kingdom you can reject him you can leave him uh when you come back the new covenant says in Hebrews 8:12 if you’re willing to humble yourself if you’re willing to uh submit unto.

▶ 39:42 Him it says I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more that’s how powerful the blood of Jesus Christ is we’ve got to understand the power of God here yes you may have left Christ for 20 years you may have left God for 30 years doesn’t matter you come back to him you come back to the father and he can get all of that out he can make you a son again not a servant not some red-headed stepchild as my friends used to say in school you’re a child a son a daughter of God.

▶ 40:39 So here at the Vine Cluster church we have a time after where we can respond where we can seek God for ourselves and I will play a song and we have a choice whether or not we’re going to sing that song whether you know or not try to these are all actions that you can do remember when Jesus was on the earth when he came people would go to him they would seek him they would humble themselves they would surrender they would do all kinds of things to come to Jesus Christ to humble themselves and as human beings we have a lot uh we we need to humble ourselves we need humility and if you think you’re perfect picked out there I submit to you you’re not but God is and if you’re willing to humble yourself and come back to him he will receive you and he can give you life so we’re going to take a few moments right now to allow.

▶ 41:45 God. Uh to give you an opportunity to come before your God amen. So in. Closing what is a Christian a Christian is someone whose father is God and how do we know that we do we act like our father we are not estranged we are not uh just servants or slaves he says that we are what his children amen and so when you come to God you’re not coming uh as a second class person you’re coming as his child so I encourage you this.

▶ 43:04 Morning let’s come before him with that. Understanding this morning. If uh I’m pretty sure a lot of us in here have already accepted Christ uh if you haven’t accepted Christ we want to remind you of those scriptures Romans 3:23 it says all have sinned and fallen short of of the glory of God yes we’ve made mistakes Romans 6:23 says that the wages of that sin the result the payment of that sin is death in hell and we don’t want that I don’t want that but the gift of God is Jesus Christ our Lord what he did on the cross we have a solution it’s him in first John 1:9 it says if we confess he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness and it says in the new covenant our sins that we have committed he will remember no more.

▶ 44:09 Amen so if you’d like to accept Christ it says in 1 John 1:19 if we confess we have to do it with our mouth we have to open our mouth and say yes I admit and if you’d like to confess and admit this morning just lift up your hand with our eyes closed our heads bowed you like to accept Christ lift up your hand and pray this prayer with me Lord Jesus I admit that I have sinned against you I. Confess God I ask that you forgive me I ask that you cleanse me from my sin Lord I. Commit to to following your word and your truth.
