Where Will You Be? 08/04/2019: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
A message asking where you will be when God moves. God shows no partiality; He chose ordinary, moldable people like Peter and fearful Gideon. He cut Gideon’s army to 300 so the victory would be His. Don’t mix man’s words into God’s word; when God tests you, be part of the 300.
Who receives the Holy Spirit?
Short answer: We are witnesses, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.
▶ 0:00 All right so we’re talking today about where will you be we’re gonna mention some special scriptures we’re gonna open up with some special scriptures this morning. Acts 5:32 says and we are his witnesses to these things and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who what. Obey him so Acts 55:32 if you’re wondering how do I get the Holy Spirit how do I ask Jesus what do I do to receive it in the New Testament the Holy Spirit people were being filled with the Holy Spirit everywhere you looked this group the next group they’re getting filled with the Holy Spirit like that and so. The writer here is reminding us how we can get it very important if you want to know this is one of the steps to those who obey him.
Scripture in this part
Acts 5:32 (NKJV)
And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
— Acts 5:32 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:00Does God show partiality?
Short answer: No. In every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted; Cornelius received the Holy Spirit.
▶ 1:01 Acts. 10:34 Peter opened his mouth he said in truth I see that God shows no partiality, he doesn’t care who you are he doesn’t care if you’re born and you don’t have a mom or dad he doesn’t care if you’re born today and you you know you don’t have a dad or don’t have a mom or maybe whatever situation you’re in. You don’t have to be rich you don’t have to be poor it doesn’t matter who you are but he says in every nation whoever fears him. Whoever respects God whoever says to God okay I’m going to listen to you and works righteousness is accepted by him see how important this is you know who he’s talking about in this story is talking about Cornelius Cornelius was not a Jew adults and he.
▶ 2:03 Was able to receive the Holy Spirit because he feared God and worked righteousness. In the next scripture just a few scriptures down he continues to talk to Cornelius and the group and while Peter was speaking these words the Holy Spirit fell came down upon all those who heard the word this is very important. This is powerful if you want the Holy Spirit doesn’t matter who you are doesn’t matter if you’re a Jew a Gentile I don’t care the question is do you fear God do you respect him enough. Do you work righteousness. So going back to where we will be we’re off of the special scriptures now.
Scripture in this part
Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV)
Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
— Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:01Acts 10:44 (NKJV)
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.
— Acts 10:44 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:03What happened when the disciples fished all night?
Short answer: They caught nothing, until the risen Jesus told them to cast the net on the right side.
▶ 3:00 We’re looking at John chapter 21. Jesus had already rose from the dead or had already risen and he had already made disciples. He had already died on the cross he already wrote some grave and now he’s going and meeting his disciples and he goes in John 21 verse 3. He goes out to Peter and James and John cuz they’re all fishing Peter said I’m gonna go fishing and they went unto the boat and that night they caught what nothing. How many fish is that zero no fish they caught nothing and he said to them cast your net on the right side of the boat.
▶ 3:56 And you will find some and they’re like oh well I was doing the whole this side the whole night I didn’t try this side is that what you think they said no. You know and you’re fishing you’re trying every side this way oh look at that is that a lethal kitten oh what is that wherever the fish are that’s where you’re gonna cast when you’re fishing you’re trying every angle you can get. But you see this very important statement right here he said. And when Jesus says something when God says something buckle up. Cash your net on the right side of the boat you will find some so they cast and they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude and so the question is where will you be you see Peter.
Scripture in this part
John 21:3-6 (NKJV)
Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
— John 21:3-6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:00What did Jesus tell Peter at the beginning?
Short answer: Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men. We can’t just sit in the church; we have to throw the net out.
▶ 4:54 Jesus had already told Peter, adults I’m talking to you Jesus had already told Peter’s very important statement at the beginning when he made him a disciple he said follow me and I will make you what. Fishers of men. So what happened here three years later he’s a disciple and what is he fishing for fish what should he be fishing for men. So Jesus turns this whole thing around he’s going to show Peter what he should be fishing for. He caught nothing you can’t catch anything without Jesus. But he’s reminding him you got to be in the boat you got to be in the church you got to be casting out the net you got to be trying to reach people you can’t just sit in the boat and not throw your net out right.
▶ 5:53 We can’t just sit in the church I mean we’ve heard this many times we can’t just sit here not throw the net out we’ve got to go out there and throw the net out amen. But they didn’t catch anything and sometimes it’s a little disheartening when you’re not catching anything right I mean I tell you when I’m fishing my dad would take his fishing one sometimes we we got skunked that’s what my dad would say we got skunked. You know I make fish we caught zero we went out there with our fishing poles all man we were we wanted to catch fish what we got skunked. Sometimes it doesn’t work. Does that mean you stopped no. So we’re gonna look at Gideon and the apostles this morning God chooses.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 4:19 (NKJV)
Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
— Matthew 4:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:54Are many called but few chosen?
Short answer: Yes. Many are called but few are chosen; God chooses who He will use.
▶ 6:55 It’s Matthew 20 verse 16 many will be called but few will be chosen I would not stretch forth my hand against the lord’s anointed in the Old Testament God would choose who was going to be the king by anointing them king it would be anointed they would be chosen okay. And God came to Gideon in the Bible he said the Lord looked up on him go in this might of yours this might of mine Gideon. And you shall save Israel from the hand of the midianites have I not sent you so Jesus God picked Gideon he chose him came to him and chose him. Peter. Said do you love me more than these feed my sheep so this is Jesus talking to Peter he is choosing Peter he’s saying hey you need to do what I’ve asked you to do I have a job for you feed my sheep take care of my sheep feed my lambs my little ones I have a job for you so why were they chosen Gideon was asked to tear down the altar of bail that’s another God they were worshipping other gods they were not worshiping argon how many of you guys worship God this morning raise your hand.
▶ 8:26 We didn’t bring up an idol and start bowing to the idol right we didn’t bring up an image or a piece of gold and start bowing to the gold and say old powerful gold right no we worship who God. So they had an idol and he told them to tear it down cut it cut down the pole and building all to the Lord and he did it Gideon obeyed and listened this is in Judges 625. Peter. Jesus came to him and said follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men and straightaway they left their nets and followed him. They responded Peter also when Jesus said who do you say that I am.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 20:16 (NKJV)
So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”
— Matthew 20:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:55What made Peter usable?
Short answer: He was moldable and pliable; when Jesus said He must wash his feet, Peter yielded.
▶ 9:18 How did Peter respond he said you are the Christ the son of God he believed in Jesus Peter said to him Jesus goes to wash Peter’s feet and Peter said to him you shall never wash my feet don’t touch no come on I. Need to be more humble than you Jesus they said unless I wash he had no part of me and then he says not only my feet my my head my hands everything. Now listen Peter here he did a flip-flop. He had one opinion and he changed. When Jesus addressed his prize his opinion he changed how many of us are willing to do that when Jesus says you’re wrong.
Scripture in this part
John 13:8-9 (NKJV)
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
— John 13:8-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:18Did Gideon have flaws?
Short answer: Yes. He was the weakest in his tribe and afraid of his family, but he obeyed and tore down the altar.
▶ 10:10 That’s important. You see we’ve got to be moldable pliable God’s got to be able to bend you around right. And. Peter was that way. Now they all had flaws Gideon he was the weakest in his tribe he was the least in his father’s house he was the small of the small of the small he was the weakest he didn’t have no muscles you know we see this pictures today all he’s got o. Or the singers they have all their cool clothes on or the basketball players they’re so tall this guy was small. He was weak you. Don’t understand you don’t understand Lord when we go out to shoot the arrows I miss every time my brother he can he hits it held every time.
▶ 11:14 But he says no I’m picking you. He was afraid of his father’s household he was afraid of his family when the Lord asked him to tear down the altar he was afraid. Did that keep him from doing it no he still did it he just did it at night. Peter he was sleeping in the garden before they came to get Jesus they were all sleeping he was one of the ones sleeping he rebuked Jesus Christ right to his face he cursed and he lied about being associated with Jesus he had some flaws. Yet God picked these two people. It says in Acts 4:13 when they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled uneducated.
Scripture in this part
Judges 6:15 (NKJV)
So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
— Judges 6:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:10Judges 6:27 (NKJV)
So Gideon took ten men from among his servants and did as the LORD had said to him. But because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city too much to do it by day, he did it by night.
— Judges 6:27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:14Does God choose special people?
Short answer: No. God chooses ordinary people; you don’t have to be a genius.
▶ 12:10 Ordinary how many guys feel ordinary yeah I feel ordinary. I’m not special. But God will choose an ordinary person. You don’t have to be you know God doesn’t go out and oh we’re the geniuses in the world I’m gonna pick them no. See the genius has to has to humble himself and that’s hard for a genius because they think they know everything they have to humble themselves when they hear God’s word from a simple preacher or message they have to humble themselves there’s a lot of geniuses that don’t. So he want to deliver Israel from the midianites he wanted to save the Jews and Gentiles using Peter and the apostles he is after a harvest he wants to get a big catch of fish out of the water.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 1:27 (NKJV)
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
— 1 Corinthians 1:27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:10Why did God reduce Gideon’s army?
Short answer: From 32,000 to 10,000 to 300, so Israel would not think victory was by their own hand.
▶ 13:20 He wants to get a lot of people out of the kingdom of darkness he wants us to be victorious against the kingdom of darkness okay these two stories are very similar so. He’s got a big army. We’re talking about Gideon Gideon. Was chosen because the midianites were gathered together against Israel the Bible says that there were countless without number you looked out at the mini knights and they were everywhere and they were coming after you. They were coming after Israel. And so Gideon he was gathering all his his people with him he sent messengers throughout and they gathered behind him and God says you are too many.
▶ 14:18 Too many. And. He. Brought them down from 32,000 to 10,000 and he said this is why he said I don’t want you guys to think that this is by your hand you’re not the one doing this I’m the one doing this I’m gonna deliver you. So he told anybody who’s afraid fearful let him go back home so the army went from 32,000 to 10,000 how many know that’s a big number right. 32,000 to 10,000 that’s still a lot of people in. Peters day the chief priests and Pharisees gathered council together and they said what shall we do with Jesus.
Scripture in this part
Judges 7:2-7 (NKJV)
And the LORD said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’ Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’ ” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained. But the LORD said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.” So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.” And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. Then the LORD said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”
— Judges 7:2-7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:18Why did the chief priests oppose Jesus?
Short answer: They admitted He worked many signs but feared losing their place. In America we fear the government and media.
▶ 15:14 This man works many signs. Now think about this adults the chief priests admitted within each other when they talk with each other they admitted that he did many signs. They admitted that he did miracles they admitted it. They knew what he was doing was real they said if we let him alone like this everyone will believe and the Romans will come and take away our place and our nation see they were afraid of losing what they had. So they’re out there being sent back home. They’re not in the fight here. The priests and the Pharisees.
▶ 16:13 Now today in America we fear the us government we have some fears ourselves what is the government going to say what is the media going to say what are the group’s going to say that attack us other churches what are they going to say. Churches are disagreeing right now on very key issues and what are the people going to say the people of America the American people the citizens what do they say what do we fear what they say or do we fear God above everything else and that’s what Gideon had to come to terms with. So he cut them down from 10,000 to how many. 300.
Scripture in this part
John 11:47-48 (NKJV)
Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”
— John 11:47-48 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:14What does the water demonstration show?
Short answer: Mixing our own words into God’s word spoils it, like the doctrine of the Pharisees.
▶ 17:07 All those who use their tongue to drink I have there a glass of water you guys see it looks nice back in are you thirsty would you like some water would you like some okay well I’m gonna take a drink first. You still want some okay hold on right there. I’m gonna get some. Hold on I want some more give me a second oh.
▶ 18:06 No. Mmm oh it’s good water you want some why not. You want some water. Have a seat. You see what I just did. Now we had no problem when I put it in the cup right. But when I started putting my tongue in it then do you think any adult here would want to drink it after I put my tongue in it the Bible says that he tested them with that test. The tongue the Bible says is a in James it says it’s a fire the tongue is a world of evil it corrupts the whole person set that set on fire by hell.
▶ 19:02 And the people in Jesus’s day they were mixing in their tongue and their words in with God’s word Matthew 16:6 says take heed and beware of the doctrine of the Pharisees they worship me but they teach as doctrines the commandments of men. And today in America we have a lot of that going on where people are putting in their opinion over God’s word God’s word is simple God’s word is very consistent we cannot. Put in our tongue and taint God’s spirit and God’s word amen well then Gideon he takes his 300 and he goes down and there is numerous is locusts the camels are without number as the sand by the seashore and they’d blue they’re 300 trumpets and everett the Lord it says the Lord set every mini night sword against his comrade and against our army and the army fled so God brought a great victory now an important part.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 16:6 (NKJV)
Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
— Matthew 16:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:02Matthew 15:8-9 (NKJV)
‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
— Matthew 15:8-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:02What happened after the 300 won?
Short answer: The men of Israel were called together again to pursue; others joined the fight.
▶ 20:14 When they had fled. The 300 when they had the 300 were there they blew their trumpets when they fled the 300 and Gideon. Redrafted their army. The men of Israel were called again. Together out of naphtha lie asher manasseh and they pursued midian so you see this is important because God may have used a small group but once once they were on the run everybody gathered behind them see the people today they may be against truth or they may be speaking or tainting the word but when the trumpets sound when the enemy is on the run when something happens when God brings about great deliverance those people can turn they can change they can come back they can help fight the fight.
Scripture in this part
Judges 7:23 (NKJV)
And the men of Israel gathered together from Naphtali, Asher, and all Manasseh, and pursued the Midianites.
— Judges 7:23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:14Did people keep joining?
Short answer: Yes. From twelve the church grew; some were persuaded and some did not believe.
▶ 21:23 In Peter’s day they started with 12 disciples and they grew and grew and grew and Jews were turning and coming to Jesus all the time Nicodemus he came to Christ he was there at the tomb helping get Jesus into the tomb he changed. And that’s that goes for us to wherever you’re at today hey you may have missed the great deliverance but you can get on board. Maybe you missed the 300 droop it doesn’t it’s okay you can get back on board amen. Paul he was out to lunch Saul of tarsus he was out to lunch he was a strictest sect of a religion of he lived a Pharisee but God turned him around you can turn around and get going with what God is doing in Acts 28 Paul explained and testified of the kingdom of God to the Jews in rome.
▶ 22:39 From morning until evening and some were persuaded by the things which were spoken and some did not believe but some changed some heard the call heard the message and joined the fight. Amen. So going back to this scripture. They may have caught nothing but when Jesus said cast your net on the right side of the boat they caught a multitude of fish where will you be whatever stage you’re in may be you rejected the first moon or maybe you’re rich I don’t know where you’re gonna be at where will you be.
Scripture in this part
Acts 28:23-24 (NKJV)
So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening. And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
— Acts 28:23-24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:39Where will you be?
Short answer: There’s always an opportunity, but don’t miss being part of the 300; when God tests you, pass the test.
▶ 23:31 There’s always an opportunity. But don’t miss out on the 300 if you can be part of the 300 be part of the 300 when God tests you you want to pass the test. If you don’t pass the test and he calls you later on then answer the call Peter and Gideon they were weak they had flaws but they were chosen and sometimes we don’t necessarily like who God chooses. We don’t necessarily like we have a problem with their weaknesses. But you know what it’s just an opportunity for them to love and for you to love. Right. Paul says there’s a more excellent way and that’s love.
