What do Good Leaders Have? — August 28, 2022: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Good leaders walk in the fear of God. Nehemiah rebuked nobles who oppressed their brethren with interest and servitude; Joseph, Josiah and the Hebrew midwives feared God. Exodus 18:21 sets the standard—able, truthful, hating covetousness—for government, church and family.
How does the service open?
Short answer: Ephesians 6: put on the whole armor of God—we wrestle not against flesh and blood.
▶ 0:02 Good morning everyone thank you for joining us in the room online Ephesians 6 verse 10 says put on the whole armor of God for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers against the rulers of the darkness of this age against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day having done all to stand this morning we want to be reminded of that we are part of the army of God we gotta fight the spiritual battle on our knees in the Bible and using the sword using the spirit using the shield of faith the helmet of salvation and all those things that we’ve been teaching in the past uh this book God’s word is so important imperative and this morning let’s stand as the army of God and with that attitude let’s worship God this morning this morning we’re going to start with a song about love and uh because God is love and then we’re going to put on our armor amen let’s worship God.
Scripture in this part
Ephesians 6:11-13 (NKJV)
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

What is prayed?
Short answer: That this church would be an example of the army of God, fighting alongside each other.
▶ 21:53 Lord Jesus we pray this morning God that this church would be an example of how the army of God should operate God Lord that we would fight alongside each other Jesus that we would cover one another Jesus Lord and we would fight the enemy kingdom of darkness Lord with the proper proper weapons that you have given us God Lord God not fighting with our own power our own strength our own words our intellect but Lord using the powerful word of Jesus Christ the powerful word of God Lord we pray this morning God. That we would stick with you. Stay with you stay with your method your truth your word Lord and not deviate from that and Lord be united in that effort God we pray for unity this morning and we pray Lord that you be with us God.
Scripture in this part
2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
— 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:53What was the outcry in Nehemiah 5?
Short answer: Rebuilders were mortgaging land and selling their children into servitude to survive.
▶ 22:51 Lord as we use these weapons of warfare and everyone said amen. You may find your seats this morning. I’d like to welcome you this morning thank you for coming all this way was online we trusted. The message so far has come from the Bible we trust that you hear it this morning. And you want to respond and follow it Ephesians chapter 6 tells us to put on the whole armor of God. Uh other scriptures in the Bible tell us to unite with the brethren behold how good and how pleasant it is for the dwell brethren to dwell together in unity and there’s more scriptures saying that we need to fight alongside one another be faithful toward each other right now the church is very we.
▶ 23:47 Divide on very small things. All right I have handouts this morning for going over what we’re talking about today. And I find it helpful to follow along and it keeps your mind engaged and you can take it home pray over it it’s all scripture and it’s organized so that you can. Study it later. And cover it later this morning’s topic is about what do good leaders have. We’re going to look at some examples of bad leaders harm caused by bad leaders examples of good leaders and God’s biblical solution that we find in the Bible. So we look at Nehemiah in chapter 5 for our basically the foundation of this message and there was an outcry of the people.
▶ 24:49 It says let us get grain that we may eat and live. They were to prefaces they were repairing the wall in Jerusalem they were repairing the wall working on coming back to Judah and Nehemiah was there helping get this work done to get everything back in order get the house of God back together and get the wall back up so they were rebuilding the city and there was a great outcry of the people the people that were doing the work the people there and there was a famine going on and they needed grain that would they could eat and live they were starving. Some had to mortgage their lands and vineyards that they could buy grain because of the famine and some borrowed money for the king’s tax on their lands and vineyards so they had their inheritance but they had to pay attacks to the king of Persia.
▶ 25:48 We are forcing our sons and our daughters to be servants and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery so at this point they’re having to make their kids work to. Make you know provide all this stuff or to just to survive to get food. To live somewhere. They’re having to put you know make their kids work and some of their daughters they said have been brought into slavery they lost some of their kids to slavery. To their brethren. It’s not in our power to redeem them for our men other men have our lands and vineyards so they they had borrowed uh their money from their lands so they couldn’t use their land to redeem their children I have this picture up here uh Hong Kong recently.
Scripture in this part
Nehemiah 5:1-5 (NKJV)
And there was a great outcry of the people and their wives against their Jewish brethren. For there were those who said, “We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live.” There were also some who said, “We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.” There were also those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our lands and vineyards. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.”
— Nehemiah 5:1-5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:47How does oppression look today?
Short answer: Hong Kong’s national security law; interest can crush borrowers, and government and business shouldn’t gouge.
▶ 26:43 There was a national security law that came down I think last year the year before and there was a lot of oppression and I bring that up because it was chinese government against chinese people I mean this is the same people that they did to their own people very similar example. And uh everybody’s always beating up the united states so I’ll send it the other way. Exodus 22:25 if you lend money to any of my people so we’re going to look at what did the people in Nehemiah’s day what were they doing wrong according to the scriptures in Exodus chapter 22 25 if you lend money to any of my people who are poor among you you shall not be like a money lender to them you shall not charge him interest and definitely they were in a poor state they were just trying to survive there was a famine going on and the nobles and rulers were exploiting this situation.
▶ 27:44 And they were lending money to them at interest I have an example here of zero interest versus ten percent interest it’s not you know far-fetched that they would have used ten percent uh mortgages today are like what five five a little over five percent so at zero percent interest a four hundred thousand dollar loan at uh this is was this thirty years this is thirty years it would be one thousand. Hundred and eleven dollars this sounds pretty good. But you know in today’s you’re not going to find that right. Because somebody’s got to make their money at 10 percent that jumps up to. 4444. That’s a big jump right I mean one versus the other is like I can really afford that I can’t afford that at all.
▶ 28:37 So you see here that just a little bit of interest can be. Very difficult for these people okay depending on how much they were lending out and how much they were charging on interest. And I’m not saying that the world can’t charge us interest on loans but the government and uh businesses are responsible being that we live in a uh market where free market society we’re supposed to have competition right and competition is supposed to bring prices down of goods. Oh what happened. Well I wasn’t ready for that issue.
▶ 29:33 No. All right. Get back we’re not watching the game right now. Government and businesses uh should be promoting. A keeping costs of goods low in our country and in countries around the world government has that responsibility. They’re not there to gouge people right it just makes sense. And businesses shouldn’t be out there gouging people just makes sense that our society and the government should make an effort to promote the general welfare of our country and so that’s what this is really getting at. These folks were exploiting.
What did the law say about poor brethren?
Short answer: Don’t make them serve as slaves; they were hired servants until the jubilee.
▶ 30:24 The people. There’s another law in Leviticus chapter 25 verse 39 if any of your brethren dwells by you becomes poor and sells himself to you you shall not compel him to serve as a slave now you got to be careful with this wording here sells himself you think oh my gosh you’re selling yourself it’s really you’re just you know you’re. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. I’m not sure where that’s coming from. As a hired servant. Let me get back verse 40 as a if one of you becomes poor sells himself to you and you shall you shall not compel him to serve as a slave as a hired servant or a sojourner he shall be with you and shall serve you until the year of jubilee so if you.
▶ 31:29 Said to someone hey I need you to cover my debt they you they covered your debt and you could the the that contract lasted until the year of jubilee you worked as a hired servant that was the law in Leviticus he shall depart from you he shall he he and his children with him and shall return to his own family he shall return to the possession of his fathers uh and I’m bringing this up because he wasn’t supposed to lose any of his land it wasn’t that these people got to take anything that they had so it was just a job right they need to go get to go after your property. Okay. It’s important to understand. They are my servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt they shall not be sold as slaves God had this law out because each uh Hebrews already went through this they were slaves in Egypt and that wasn’t good you shall not rule over them with rigor but you shall fear your God so even when you had them as a hired servant you could not mistreat them just because you had them as an employee you had to treat them right and you know on one end the laws are extreme in our country in certain states where they’re you know making it.
▶ 32:49 So costly to have an employee right but on the other end they have some good points to protect employees right hey we got to find the right balance is the problem. So there were you could not do that to your brother you could not oppress your brother you could not take their land you could not. Hire them as a slave and you could not go to other countries and just kidnap people which is what we were doing back in the days going to other countries people were. Capturing people and taking them over and selling them you can’t do that that’s kidnapping that’s wrong that’s the death penalty. Amen. Amen.
Scripture in this part
Leviticus 25:39-41 (NKJV)
‘And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave. As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee. And then he shall depart from you—he and his children with him—and shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his fathers.
— Leviticus 25:39-41 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:24 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What did Nehemiah do?
Short answer: He was angry, rebuked the nobles and rulers, and they were silenced.
▶ 33:41 So going back to Nehemiah his solution he became very angry when I heard their outcry in these words he rebuked the nobles and the rulers so he had a message that he brought to the people in charge that is important you know Nehemiah sat down he thought what are they doing wrong how can I get this message across clearly succinctly and he did it he sat down he figured it out and he and he told him you’re charging usually on your brother you’re charging interest you’re and you should not be doing that according to the laws that have already been written by God I call the great assembly against them so here we go I got a picture here this is actually a protest in Hong Kong right. They were they were very upset about losing their uh rights if you that that is.
▶ 34:40 And now things have changed not not for the better for them they’re they’re they’re leaders democr like Jimmy Lai I can’t remember his name he’s in jail. And uh. China’s got a hold on Hong Kong again. And I said to them according to your ability our ability we have redeemed our Jewish brethren who were sold to the nations now indeed will you even sell your brethren or should you be sold to us now what he’s saying here is you know we just got out from a captivity to come back to our homeland and now. Our brethren are trying to sell each other off as slaves again we just got here we just got our freedom and now you’re doing this that’s wrong come on you know there he he had a convincing message right that’s important.
▶ 35:37 Nehemiah’s solution. And they were silenced and found nothing to say they knew they were wrong now we don’t have that today everybody’s always got to come back even if they’re wrong and they won’t even answer what you just said nobody will shut up acknowledge that what they’re doing is wrong and turn from it that’s a big problem. That’s a big big problem it’s a big problem in the church. People won’t admit they’re sinning people won’t admit they’re wrong they come back with their excuses. And you won’t just be honest with yourself and honest with Christ and just say yes this is wrong I admit it I need to turn from it and I need to keep turning from it as long as it takes till I am delivered from it.
Scripture in this part
Nehemiah 5:6-8 (NKJV)
And I became very angry when I heard their outcry and these words. After serious thought, I rebuked the nobles and rulers, and said to them, “Each of you is exacting usury from his brother.” So I called a great assembly against them. And I said to them, “According to our ability we have redeemed our Jewish brethren who were sold to the nations. Now indeed, will you even sell your brethren? Or should they be sold to us?” Then they were silenced and found nothing to say.
— Nehemiah 5:6-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:41 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What is the key for leaders?
Short answer: Walk in the fear of God; Nehemiah lent without interest and did not burden the people.
▶ 36:31 And it’s the same way in our government. You know God’s word is right and true. And people are rejecting it. Nehemiah says what you are doing is not good should you not walk in the fear of God because of the reproach of the nations. I also with my brethren and my servants am leading and am lending them money and grain please let us stop this usury restore now to them even this day their land so Nehemiah was also lending them money but he wasn’t charging them interest and he wasn’t taking their land. He was not forcing their children to slavery or making them servants oh you want that well you got to give me your child as my servant.
▶ 37:30 He wasn’t doing that and he tells us what the key is and this is what we need in our country or at least some people that follow it. Happened again yes well. Saw I solved one problem got five more problems. And so he gives us the key here. In verse 9 he says should you not walk in the fear of our God and that is what we do not have in our country today and in nations. All over the world people are not fearing God in their leadership and in their rule over people if they did fear God they would treat their citizens.
▶ 38:28 Right right. Amen I was watching a uh interview by Focus on the Family with the one person in particular government official in particular and everything out of that government official’s mouth was excellent it was very good and you could tell there’s some kind of fear of God there or at least operating that way and it was very good very important we need people like that we need people in our country that fear God and that serve and our government officials in that capacity fearing God ruling in the fear of God. Nehemiah chapter 5 14 former governors burden the people with taking bread and wine during a famine so we have a famine and they’re you know oh what’s my daily provision you guys need to pay up you know do I need it no but I yes I need it of course I need it I’m the governor.
▶ 39:35 And also give me 40 shekels of silver please and of course you got to remember this is a a rebuilding people right there’s not like what there used to be there’s not the same amount of people there used to be they’re starting over they’re starting from scratch. Right so things aren’t easy I mean you got to wait before you get to. Get all the goodies I mean geez. Their servants the servants of the governors ruled over the people. And so these bad leaders exploited. The people of that day in Nehemiah’s day. Nehemiah was governor for 12 years he would not eat the governor’s provisions he and his servants worked can you believe that.
Scripture in this part
Nehemiah 5:9-10 (NKJV)
Then I said, “What you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies? I also, with my brethren and my servants, am lending them money and grain. Please, let us stop this usury!
— Nehemiah 5:9-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 36:31 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Nehemiah 5:14-16 (NKJV)
Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions. But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and took from them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver. Yes, even their servants bore rule over the people, but I did not do so, because of the fear of God. Indeed, I also continued the work on this wall, and we did not buy any land. All my servants were gathered there for the work.
— Nehemiah 5:14-16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:35What happens without the fear of God?
Short answer: Teaching evolution and atheism removes accountability; people treat others how they want.
▶ 40:28 A government official working themselves. He and his servants worked on the wall. Rebuilding the wall. 150 people worked with him. And. They would not take any bread from the people because they knew it was hard you see that that is that shows you character. In the in a good leader Nehemiah would not behave like the former governors because of the and it says it here in in Nehemiah chapter 5 because of what because of the fear of God it’s that simple. We need people in government that fear God that are afraid to offend mistreat people because they know they’re going to be held accountable.
▶ 41:22 And people today are believing in evolution this this is what happens when you throw out God and you you throw out you educate people to believing atheism and agnosticism and all that there’s no responsibility for your your your decisions after you die then people are just gonna treat people how they want. There’s no fear of God. Government leaders would have a much different perspective if they knew they’d be held accountable. Right. I mean pastors too do pastors think we’re going to be held accountable I don’t know. Some pastors it’s like do you know you’re going to be held accountable for that behavior. Uh that’s wrong. And the evil things that they do examples of good leaders in Genesis chapter 39 verse 9.
How did Joseph fear God?
Short answer: He refused Potiphar’s wife—how can I sin against God?—and told his brothers, I fear God.
▶ 42:17 Summarizing it here Joseph is talking to Potiphar’s wife and he says you are his wife how then can I do this great wickedness and sin and against God now she wanted to she said lie with me come on let’s get down and he said no how can I sin against God. In Genesis chapter 42:18 he says explicitly to his brothers he says it just outright it says do this and live for I what I fear God. They didn’t know that it was Joseph his their brother but this was his his how he talked to them if you are honest men let one of your brothers be confined to your prison because they said we’re honest men. And he’s saying no I fear God and he was a ruler in charge Pharaoh in chapter 41 verse 38 he confirms all this and he says can we find such a one as this a man in whom is the spirit of God God has shown you all this there is no one as discerning and wise as you you shall be ruler over my house and all my people shall be ruled according to your word why because you.
▶ 43:32 Know Pharaoh wasn’t being able to pinpoint it he wasn’t able to say it uh I mean he was he didn’t he didn’t say everything about him but he said you’ve got the spirit of God I can tell you are discerning and wise I can tell and the other thing that Joseph has is that he fears God when Pharaoh put him in charge he didn’t mistreat the people he didn’t abuse the people he ruled right. And he knew what was coming and he did exactly what he said he was going to do he saved a fifth of the grain and the good years and he. Made it last. Through the famine of seven years and helped save Egypt and his own people. That is a good leader. And we need people like that another example of a good leader.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 39:9 (NKJV)
There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
— Genesis 39:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Genesis 42:18 (NKJV)
Then Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this and live, for I fear God:
— Genesis 42:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How did Josiah respond to the law?
Short answer: He tore his clothes, admitted they had not obeyed, made a covenant and cleaned out idolatry.
▶ 44:27 Whose heart was right in second Kings 22:11. When the king heard the words of the book of the law he tore his clothes he inquired he said go inquire the Lord for me for the people and for all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord aroused against us because of our fathers our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book so here we have Josiah. And Josiah hilkiah the priest he says I found this book I don’t know how he found it but all of a sudden he comes in with this book and he starts to read it in Joseph’s presence I’m sorry Josiah’s presence and Josiah. As soon as he hears it he says oh my gosh. You know that’s the right kind of heart.
▶ 45:22 That is. That’s almost like unknown today. You know for someone to hear God’s word and just say you know that that is true that’s right I’m wrong that’s exactly how Josiah was. Today we have so many excuses. And our our response to God is not right. And he says great is the wrath of the Lord. We’ve not obeyed the words of this book and Josiah says in second Kings 23 3 he made a covenant to follow the Lord and to keep his commandments his testimonies his statutes with all his heart and all his soul sounds a lot like the greatest commandment the greatest commandment of the Bible is to love God with all your what heart all your soul mind and strength.
▶ 46:26 And so here Josiah is loving God and he’s committing to following God and his word his commandments excellent excellent example. And because of this all the people followed him took a stand for the covenant that he made. He also restored the house of the Lord he got rid of all the Asherah poles he got rid of all the altars to Baal whatever was in there that shouldn’t have been he said get that out of here and once he had heard what should be there he knew what to do and that is the right kind of heart we need people we need government officials that fear God or at least operate in that manner where they fear. Being held accountable for not fearing God.
Scripture in this part
2 Kings 22:11-13 (NKJV)
Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes. Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Michaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying, “Go, inquire of the LORD for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
— 2 Kings 22:11-13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 44:27 (quoted; reference not named in the message)2 Kings 23:3-4 (NKJV)
Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant. And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring out of the temple of the LORD all the articles that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.
— 2 Kings 23:3-4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 46:26Who else feared God?
Short answer: The Hebrew midwives, who saved the boys; parents must raise children in the fear of the Lord.
▶ 47:23 Another example of women. Good leaders. The midwives in Exodus chapter 1:17 feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the male children alive now Pharaoh had commanded them to kill any male child if you remember. And the king of Egypt or the Pharaoh called the midwives and said why have you done this thing and saved the male children of alive and of course they give their answer like oh well you know. Because they’re the hebrew women are so fat and it just happened so fast. I couldn’t do what was I supposed to do. Uh but but really in their minds they what they feared God and I bring this up because they’re not necessarily government leaders here they’re just in the medical field you know wherever you’re at you can be someone fearing God is very important fearing God is important in your job whatever you’re doing if somebody’s commissioned you to do something wrong and you fear God that fearing God should come first.
▶ 48:36 And these women took that to heart and they followed that. So it’s not just government it’s family fathers and mothers we need to fear God. Government presidents. Governors congressmen senators. State senators all those government officials. We need people that fear God. Employers managers educational institutions we need people that fear God and more. But definitely in our own lives you know God is asking you today are you a mother or a father that fears God do you operate and raise your kids in that.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 1:17 (NKJV)
But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.
— Exodus 1:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 47:23 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
— Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 49:28 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What qualifications should leaders have?
Short answer: Able men who fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.
▶ 49:29 The Bible says train up your children the way they should go when they’re old they’ll not depart from it Bible says to raise your children in the fear of the Lord. Amen. God will hold us accountable. And looking at some direct scriptures here in Exodus chapter 18:21. Talking about. Leaders. And how we pick leaders moreover you shall select from all the people able men able the word we know today is able is what competent. Right. That in confidence is being thrown around you will need competent men such as what fear God. Men of truth not liars not deceivers.
▶ 50:23 Not snake oil salesman or whatever the term is. Hating covetousness they’re not desiring whatever what somebody else has they’re not going to take a bribe to. In corruption corrupt the law. Let them judge the people at all times so here we I mean that’s a really good uh summary right there of qualities of leaders we need in our country amen men of truth what’s wrong with an honest person what’s wrong with competent people. What’s wrong with hating covetousness that’s that just makes sense right. And someone who fears God or at least operates that way. That’s good I mean I didn’t even realize until right now that’s a great job description right there.
▶ 51:22 That summarizes it. And uh this is when Moses was selecting elders to help him uh judge the the you know over a million people he had to work with right he couldn’t do it all himself so when he picked this is what he did. This is very good and you know you never thought I never thought that Roe versus Wade would be overturned. Right and you sit here and you think you know we’re never gonna get any law in place that requires. Uh our leaders to live by something like this but you know it could happen. And we need to be promoting this and be saying this kind of stuff and requiring our leaders to be people like this. Not just because not through just public opinion like the public opinion could be oh you didn’t follow this and we’re not gonna vote no there should be something that says you cannot.
▶ 52:27 Unless you cannot be an official unless you meet this standard. Second Samuel chapter 23 verse 2 the spirit of the Lord spoke to me by me and his word was on my tongue the God of Israel said the rock of Israel spoke to me he who rules over men. And this is the spirit of the Lord talking this is God talking this isn’t Moses this isn’t a man and even what Moses did was still right still true from God but here’s the spirit of the Lord talking. God talking he who rules over men must be what just. Ruling in the fear of God. Very important.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 18:21 (NKJV)
Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

— 2 Samuel 23:2-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 52:27 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What about the church?
Short answer: Pastors and every leader must operate in the fear of God; vote for those who do.
▶ 53:19 I’m going to invite miss Woods to come and sing that song one more time we’re going to have a prayer time this morning for our rulers. And we’re going to sing that same song. You’re my brother or my sister that’s the one I had thought of before she even sang it at the end there. But we really need to be united like Nehemiah he got a great assembly united around the right message amen. And we need God’s help in this area so we want to pray that God would help the church unite again. A church to. Stop giving excuses. When Nehemiah said his statement they could they were silent and they had nothing to say we have so much to say.
▶ 54:15 And that needs to change in our in our church world today. We need people that rule we need we need pastors we need people in church in every capacity that are there and operating in the fear of God that are just pastors. Hating covetousness. Not mistreating the people not uh giving a message that is. Not true. And we need to pray for that to change in the church and then you know pray that that would come out into the world and to our country into our government. That we would have people that rule in the fear of God that are just. And so God is asking us today are we good employees are we good parents.
▶ 55:08 Are we parents that parent in the fear of God. Do we require our government leaders to rule in the fear of God and that’s this message is so important just in your voting in your decisions people are voting for all these people that are siding way against the fear of God they are not even close to the fear of God. This should affect the way you vote this should affect your politics. Are you picking people that rule in the fear of God. It’s very simple this is important in our country this is important in our church and I’m bringing all this up because we need to get specific about our prayers we need to pray specifically for the church we need to pray specifically for our government that peop more people would rise up that fear God and get into government be elected that are just that hate covetousness that are truthful able we need that in our country.
How does the service close?
Short answer: Prayer for the church to unite, for the nation, and “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered.”
▶ 56:18 And we want to pray for that this morning so would you stand with me we’re going to sing this chorus once and then we’re going to lift up our voices for our church and for the church worldwide. The church in America. That the church would unite. That it would require people to be pastors people in church to have the fear of God people to be honest and able. Hating covetousness. Not just there to get something out of the people we need to pray for that this morning for the church and our country and our world let’s sing this song. Brother you’re my sister. So take me by the hand. Together we will work till he comes.
