What Are You Looking For?: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Michael Silla asks what we are looking for. Herod heard John gladly but would not repent and wanted Jesus to give him a show; the sinful woman loved much, Zacchaeus overcame obstacles and received Him joyfully, the multitude tried to force Him to be king, and the disciples kept obeying in the storm. Seek first the kingdom of God, not a sign.
How does the service open?

Here to the strong thanks to the brain don’t give up hope some people change. Against. Against the grain love finds a way some people chase. Thank God for those who make it let.

Scripture in this part
1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
— 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:42 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What are people really looking for?
Short answer: Peace, joy and happiness, but if you go after them without going through Jesus you miss the mark; love God with all your heart.
▶ 26:47 Normally I would be inviting Mr. Kincer to speak but I’m speaking today so Michael is going to share today from God’s word amen. And uh Stephanie has already prayed so let’s turn our attention to God’s word and today we’re going to talk about what are you looking for many people are learning people are looking for many things but really people want peace they want joy they want to be happy but when you go after peace and joy and you don’t go through Jesus you’re missing the mark. So what are we looking for the goal Matthew 22:37 Jesus said you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind and this is the first and great commandment so important that we have this as our first priority in life how can I love God every day when you wake up how can I love God every day when you set your schedule what you’re going to do you you how can I love God.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 22:37-39 (NKJV)
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
— Matthew 22:37-39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:47How do we love God if we can’t harm Him?
Short answer: By doing nothing to offend Him: following His moral laws pleases God.
▶ 27:57 That is the question we need to be asking ourselves. To love your neighbor would be to do no harm to your neighbor amen but you can’t really do harm to God you can’t take your six-shooter out and start firing at God where are you bang bang bang. You can’t go and kick his shins you can’t throw things at God he’s not affected by your harm. But he does have commandments. And the fear of God is to do nothing to offend. God. So God is different you can’t really harm him you can’t like I said touch him kick him and all that stuff. But you can do no offense toward God if you follow his moral laws you are pleasing God and that’s how we love God the Bible says right here for this is the love of God that we keep his commandments if you love God you keep his commandments.
What is eternal life?
Short answer: Knowing God and Jesus now on earth, and having Him first in your schedule and plans.
▶ 29:02 Very simple. This is eternal life that they may know you and he goes on here to say and explain you know there’s loving God there’s knowing God this is eternal life we can know it now on earth we can and you guys have heard this all before but this still is still important this is the big goal you can have eternal life here on earth now and that is knowing God knowing Jesus loving God having him first in your life when you set your schedule is he in your schedule every day when you make plans is he in your plans. On your Sunday is he on your Sunday during your week is he in your week. Do you love God. And so our approach to God is very important and we’re going to look at some examples in the Bible today of people that approached God and the first one we’re going to look at is Herod.
Scripture in this part
John 17:3 (NKJV)
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
— John 17:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:02 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why did John confront Herod?
Short answer: Herod married his brother Philip’s wife; John said it is not lawful, so we can’t say we don’t have to follow the law.
▶ 30:02 Mark chapter 6 verse 16 he bound John in prison for the sake of Herodias his brother Philip’s wife for he had married her which was wrong you don’t just take somebody’s my wife and marry him they’re already married it’s adultery. And John said it is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife and I bring this up because John is the forerunner of Jesus Christ and he is saying it is not lawful. So when you hear somebody say well I don’t have to follow the law I’m not under the law John told Herod what are you doing. What you’re doing is not lawful. And it’s the same way today John’s word we all get baptized don’t we well we he we need to listen to his word still and do what is lawful in God’s eyes you know if the government comes out with laws to sin and all that you don’t you know you don’t need to follow that stuff talking about God’s law Herod feared John knowing that he was a just and holy man he protected him and when he heard him he did many things and heard him gladly see Herod was on this fence right he liked the message he felt the conviction and and if you know the parable of the sower it talks about the one who heard it gladly but then the cares of this world came.
Scripture in this part
Mark 6:17-18 (NKJV)
For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. Because John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
— Mark 6:17-18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:02What does Herodias’ daughter show about parents?
Short answer: Parents influence kids to sin; children sometimes have to rise above their parents and go straight to God.
▶ 31:31 And pretty soon. The word was choked out of him oh that’s the that’s the thorns but you know what I mean. Herodias daughter danced and pleased Herod. And she went out and said to her mother what shall I ask and she said the head of John the baptist and what I’m what I’m why I’m bringing this up is that. Parents today are influencing their kids to do what is wrong and that’s been going on for a long time but in America it’s really sad you see parents even from a young age they are influencing their kid to sin and it’s. Horrible. So children you gotta rise above your parents you know sometimes you gotta just go straight to God. And so Herod was doing something wrong again here you know he was looking you know it wasn’t his daughter.
Scripture in this part
Mark 6:22-25 (NKJV)
And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” He also swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.” So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!” Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
— Mark 6:22-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:31 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Was Herod’s sorrow real?
Short answer: He was sorry but caved to pressure and wouldn’t give up his position; sorry doesn’t mean anything without listening.
▶ 32:30 He wasn’t related to her but he was. She was dancing before him and it wasn’t just a uh you know ballet. The king was exceedingly sorry that he had made this oath to give her whatever she wanted. He was sorry. Boo hoo. My kids tell me sorry I’ve already told you this my kids tell me sorry oh sorry I don’t want to hear sorry I just want you to listen okay. The sorry doesn’t mean anything. But because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him he did not want to refuse her he caved to the pressure the cares of this world Herod was not willing to give up his throne he was not willing to give up his position he was not willing to give up his friends.
▶ 33:23 For following Jesus Christ. And following what John told him to do. Immediately the king sent for John to be beheaded. And so we see here Herod’s kind of behavior pattern you see that he’s a sinful man you see that he is uh he caves to the pressure and the the Bible Jesus said this himself he said beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod and that’s talking about the doctrine the doctrine of the Pharisees and the doctrine of Herod you see you’ve got the Pharisees over here that are extreme and then Herod is over here thinking that he can do whatever he wants enjoy this message that he heard gladly he heard gladly the message of oh repenting and getting baptized oh man I love this this is great news but he would not.
Scripture in this part
Mark 6:26-27 (NKJV)
And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison,
— Mark 6:26-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:30 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Mark 8:15 (NKJV)
Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
— Mark 8:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:23 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why did Jesus depart when Herod sought Him?
Short answer: Jesus had plans to fulfill; it would be horrible to have Jesus trying to get away from you because of your behavior.
▶ 34:25 Repent he would not change and that is going on in our American church today and in America and throughout the world not just America. But I’m here in America so we talk about ourselves. Herod and Jesus. Luke chapter 9 verse 7 Herod heard of all that was done by him. Now Herod had heard what was done that Jesus what Jesus was doing he had just beheaded John. And he’s thinking to himself this is John whom I beheaded he’s resurrect he’s risen from the grave and now he’s he literally thought this and so Herod was going to seek after Jesus he was he sought after him and that’s a good thing. You know he’s seeking after Jesus and Matthew 14:3 when Jesus heard it.
▶ 35:20 He departed. When he heard that Herod wanted to come find him he was like I’m not going to run that guy. You got to understand that Jesus had plans. If Herod had come and they had a conflict he would have died before it was time to die. He had the Bible says when he was hanging on that cross he said what it is finished all the work had to be done he had to drink from that sour wine like it says in the Old Testament he had to do that to fulfill scripture he had plans he had things to do and you don’t mess with God’s plans. So he’s getting he’s trying to get away from this guy the leaven of Herod I don’t want to be around how many Christians.
Scripture in this part
Luke 9:7-9 (NKJV)
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” So he sought to see Him.
— Luke 9:7-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 34:25 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Matthew 14:13 (NKJV)
When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
— Matthew 14:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:20 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What did Herod want from Jesus?
Short answer: A show, a miracle, entertainment; when he didn’t get it he mocked Him.
▶ 36:17 Would like Jesus trying to get away from you I would hate that because of my behavior my decisions. Jesus is trying to get away from me what a horrible place to be in. Really I would I would be very heartbroken but finally when Jesus is standing before Pilate Pilate sends Jesus to Herod because Jesus is a Galilean and Herod was over Galilee he was in charge of Galilee and Pilate was over Jerusalem in that area so he sends him over to Herod and Herod said oh yes oh he’s finally here he was glad he had desired for a long time to see him he heard many things about him he hoped to see a miracle done by him.
▶ 37:13 So here is Herod again he’s sitting he’s got John’s head beheaded murdered John. John didn’t do anything wrong Jesus said that John was one of the greatest prophets in all the history. And he had him beheaded. He has got murder under his belt he’s got the sexual morality under his belt he’s doing everything wrong and he wants Jesus to give him a show. How much does it cost Jesus so I can see your concert. A hundred dollars a ticket a thou I’ll pay it he just wanted a show. He wanted a miracle he wanted to see you know he’s got all these entertainment he’s got his uh uh you know step-daughter dancing before him he liked that oh maybe Jesus will do some dance.
Scripture in this part
Luke 23:8-11 (NKJV)
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
— Luke 23:8-11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 36:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How are we approaching Jesus?
Short answer: Glad to hear the word but unwilling to repent, or coming to Him for what He died for: to turn us from sin?
▶ 38:09 Or some entertainment for me that’s what he care he just cared about himself pleasing himself. And so God is asking you he’s asking us how are we approaching Jesus he’s asking you how are you approaching God how are you approaching Christ are you approaching Christ in this way where you are glad to hear God’s word but you are not willing to repent and come to him for what he has and is he died on the cross to save you from your sin to turn you from sin. Then he questioned him with many words he answered him nothing Jesus answered him nothing how many of you guys would like that Jesus not responding to you I would hate that.
▶ 39:02 And sometimes he doesn’t. But in this case he’s not answering anything. And the chief priests and scribes accused him of course we know that story and when Herod. Then Herod with his men of war treated him with contempt and mocked him so here. If Herod wasn’t going to get what he wanted he’s going to turn around and just say fine. You know Jesus the son of God the king of the world they began to mock him treat him with contempt. And that’s a horrible horrible choice you go from being excited to hear the word of God to. Completely rejecting.
How did the sinful woman approach Jesus?
Short answer: She came to repent, loved much and humbled herself; she did not come for a miracle or a show.
▶ 39:54 Mistreating Jesus Christ and in this case it can be mistreating the church God’s people remember what he said to Paul why are you persecuting me so what are you looking for are you looking for a miracle or are you looking for Jesus Christ. Now here is another sinner. Just like. Herod she had sinned in her life and God doesn’t really care whether you’re a king and you’ve got all this sin on you or if you’re a lowly person or a high person or medium middle class he doesn’t care who you are. Okay but this woman in Luke chapter 7 it says she was a sinner and she brought an alabaster flask of oil stood at Jesus’s feet behind him weeping and she began to wash his feet with her tears wiping with the hairs of her head and she kissed his feet and anointed them with fragrant oil and Jesus said therefore I say to you her sins which are many are forgiven for she loved much I love that statement.
▶ 41:04 She loved much do you love Jesus see this is the greatest the first and greatest commandments to love God he is saying that this woman. Did. The best thing that she could ever do and that is love God love Jesus according to our culture today and according to standards in America this act of a woman coming in and wiping a man’s feet and washing a man’s oh it’s offensive. How dare she how dare Jesus let this woman. He should have done this or that no. She showed us how to humble yourself. How to show Jesus love. She didn’t come in and say Jesus here’s all my money or flash uh all these things that she came humbly.
▶ 42:07 To Jesus. To whom little is forgiven the same loves little and she said to her your sins are forgiven and God is looking for people. She did not come for a miracle she did not come for a show she came to repent she came to Jesus the son of God to turn from her sin she came to love Jesus and submit to him and humble herself and that is how we need to approach Jesus Christ like this woman. Even men. Need to humble themselves and just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean that me as a man I shouldn’t follow her example. She’s a great example here the rich man there was a rich man and he was a sinner Zacchaeus Luke 19 a chief tax collector rich and short.
Scripture in this part
Luke 7:37-38 (NKJV)
And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
— Luke 7:37-38 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:54 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Luke 7:47-48 (NKJV)
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
— Luke 7:47-48 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:07 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How did Zacchaeus respond to Jesus?
Short answer: He overcame obstacles, received Him joyfully, and said he would give half to the poor and restore fourfold.
▶ 43:01 He sought to see who Jesus was but he could not because of the crowd for he was of short stature so he’s got some obstacles do you have obstacles in your life. If you have obstacles that are keeping you from reaching Jesus Herod had obstacles. But Herod was not willing to overcome the obstacles but Zacchaeus was willing to overcome the obstacles and he did overcome the obstacles and he said oh I know where Jesus is going to end up I’m going to go up climb in a tree and then I’ll be able to see him and that’s exactly what he did. He knew Jesus was going to pass by that way and Jesus stops him and says make haste come down for today I must stay at your house and let me finish here so he made haste came down received him joyfully and when they saw it they all complained saying he has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner do you realize that Jesus.
▶ 43:56 Went to spend the night. At Zacchaeus’s house. He stops Zacchaeus is in the trees hey today. Your house is my hotel. Now. Some people excuse me. You want to come in my house and you want me to cook you food but what how did Zacchaeus respond he said. He was glad. He received him what joyfully. He said oh man Jesus I got stuff for you I’m cooking ribs tonight. I got a place for you to sleep I got a blanket I got oh man I got the best stuff for you see that’s how you can approach God receiving him joyfully and it doesn’t you don’t have to be a rich man in in your spirit you can receive Jesus in this way.
▶ 44:58 Give him your best give him your all give him your heart your mind soul and understanding I don’t care if you’re some poor person over in Africa or a poor person in China or some other country and you have nothing if you come receive him joyfully in this way like a rich man in your heart receiving him having things for him setting aside time for him see that’s what Jesus is looking for amen and this is how we gotta approach. God and zach he has served Jesus. You realize that. So all you sinners out there. Are you willing. To receive Jesus and to receive him in this manner where you are willing to serve him.
▶ 45:51 You know he comes into the house and then things start to change. Right he’s standing in the house he’s spending the night at things if you know they’ve eaten food. And Zacchaeus all of a sudden he says you know what. You know they probably talked maybe they didn’t talk I don’t know but at some point Zacchaeus he just said Lord look. I give half my goods to the poor and if I’ve taken anything from anyone by false accusation I restore fourfold he is repenting. To the son of God. And this is what happens when you receive Jesus this is what happens when you invite him and no matter where you’re at whether you’re mature whether you’re a young Christian whether you’re a baby Christian whether you’re a sinner you can invite Jesus you gotta no matter where you at you have to invite him you have to receive him you have to make time for him you have to serve him see these these actions that Zacchaeus is doing.
Scripture in this part
Luke 19:3-8 (NKJV)
And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”
— Luke 19:3-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 43:01 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why did Jesus leave the multitude?
Short answer: They sought Him and were healed and fed, but then tried to force Him to be king; follow Jesus, don’t force Jesus.
▶ 46:59 You know you can’t just quit when you’re a mature Christian Christian you still got to do that stuff right. You can’t quit when you’re a young Christian or a baby Christian oh you know he’s supposed to take care of me now. No. Another group of people. What are you looking for Matthew 14 verse 13. When Jesus heard the report that Herod sought him he departed from there by boat to a deserted place. So again we go back to the story where Herod was looking for him and he was trying to get away from Herod. When the multitudes heard about it they followed him on foot to the they followed him on foot.
▶ 47:56 And he went out and saw Jesus went out and saw a great multitude he was moved with compassion for them and see the multitude did a good thing they went and sought Jesus they found him and Jesus had compassion for them and healed their sick and he also fed five thousand. And the people who saw it they said this is truly the prophet who has come into the world so everything’s good at this point right. They follow Jesus. He has compassion on them he’s healing them and now he’s feeding him but then what happens in. Verse 15 it says when Jesus perceived they were about to come and take him by force. To make him king he what. Departed. Who else did he depart from he departed from Herod.
▶ 48:52 Jesus is departing. How many of you guys want Jesus departing from you no I don’t want that. And so in both of these situations with Herod and with these people the multitude the crowd he is trying to get away from them and you you got to understand here. Sometimes we want to force things on God we want him to we want to force him to do a miracle we want to force him to uh. Maybe you want to force him to come back the second coming I want second coming Jesus now Jesus you must return now. Oh he’s not ready to return. Jesus you got to become king now they wanted to bring back the days of David right they didn’t want to be under roman rule they wanted to rule over themselves but that’s not what Jesus was doing.
▶ 49:53 So you got to be paying attention to what Jesus is doing and we can’t be forcing Jesus to do something today we can’t be forcing something on him that he may not be doing. It’s important to follow Jesus and not force Jesus amen. So I encourage you if you want second coming Jesus you’re going to have to wait a long time. Just follow Jesus. Seek him find him listen to him and what he wants to do let’s follow his will not our own. Now we’re going to look at the disciples. And a very powerful story I I think I’ve talked about this story like four or five times I don’t know why it keeps coming back I like it.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 14:13-14 (NKJV)
When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.
— Matthew 14:13-14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 46:59 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 6:14-15 (NKJV)
Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.
— John 6:14-15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 47:56 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What happened when Jesus saw the disciples straining?
Short answer: He stopped praying, looked and saw them; the wind was against them, but for Jesus it is nothing, He walks right through it.
▶ 50:51 But Jesus steps down as you know Herod and the multitude he was he departed he was trying to get away from them and he went up to the mountain. And then when they tried to force him to be king in Matthew 14:22 he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side and he went up on the mountain by himself to pray and he was alone now when Jesus is prepping out hold on here Jesus is what he’s praying and when Jesus is praying things are happening okay when he’s praying for this and that that things are happening I mean this is Jesus is praying his words don’t fall to the ground right I mean sometimes when we pray and we’re like. Bro Jesus you know this is Jesus we’re talking about important stuff going on on the mountain right.
▶ 51:46 And Jesus is making he’s making the heavens move and the earth is shaking and he’s just on the way and all of the sudden. He looks over. And he sees. Twelve people. He sees them straining. It says he saw them. I mean to me that’s so powerful. And my God. Stopped what he was doing. Praying. Moving heaven and earth and he looked and he saw 12 disciples. Small group. And the wind was against them they had opposition.
▶ 52:40 And he came out. Jesus is so funny he came out to them and he’s walking on the sea and he would have passed them by I like this you know he’s up on the mountain he sees these 12 disciples just straining he cares about him and he’s going you know he’s not there just to pass them by he’s there to help them but he’s acting like he’s going to pass by. Right. Now also you need to understand. He has not shown this to his disciples yet. They don’t know that he can walk on the water. They’ve never seen that. This is a new thing. Now what have they seen him do. They have seen him say to the clouds the wind and the rain what peace.
▶ 53:37 So they’ve seen that. But they’ve never seen him walking on the water. And Jesus is walking down there the wind is not bothering him the rain is not bothering him the sea and the waves are not bothering him at all he is walking right through it all. And we like disciples. When we are going through our opposition trouble things that we’re going through you’ve got to understand for Jesus it is nothing. He has a solution. He can walk right through it and thank God that he has a solution amen.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 14:22-25 (NKJV)
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
— Matthew 14:22-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 50:51 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Mark 6:48 (NKJV)
Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.
— Mark 6:48 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 51:46 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why were the disciples troubled?
Short answer: It was a new thing; when God does a new thing, don’t be troubled by what God is doing.
▶ 54:29 I would hate for him to send me and then he doesn’t know what to do God knows what he’ll just walk right through it that isn’t going to stop God. Now of course he sent you to go strain for a while. Jesus is uh he’s he’s. He wants you to put in the work amen. Now it says in Mark 6:49 they saw him and were troubled. They were troubled. And you see. The things that God has done in the past the moves of God Holy Spirit coming they have troubled groups of the church. And when God does a new thing are we going to be troubled by it.
Scripture in this part
Mark 6:49-50 (NKJV)
And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
— Mark 6:49-50 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 54:29 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What happened when Peter walked on the water?
Short answer: He got distracted by the wind and lost sight of Jesus, but Jesus picked him up and they walked back together.
▶ 55:24 I encourage you don’t be troubled by what God is. Doing. So. He talks with them of course they cried out they’re troubled he talks with him he says be of good cheer it is I do not be afraid and like Christians you know are are you really doing that God are we doing this right now. And so Peter said all right I figured it out here we are in this dumb boat. Now there’s water everywhere I’m wet I’m soaked. I’m straining like this and we’re going nowhere he’s walking on the water Jesus. If it’s you just call me on the water I want to walk on the water how many like that babe Peter’s the first one to figure it out what’s this boat stuff.
▶ 56:26 I don’t even sit on the boat. He’s walking on the water Jesus I’ll walk him. Call me on the water. Jesus says come I said okay I’ll come whoa hold on a second. Of course he gets distracted. He gets afraid by the wind and the rain you know and it’s understandable folks you know if we had. Big lawsuits coming down on the church and all this stuff we would. You know be a little taken aback wouldn’t you say there’s always something but Peter was taken aback he he was looking he got distracted the wind the rain the opposition and he lost sight of Jesus as you know. But Jesus came and saved him.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 14:28-31 (NKJV)
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
— Matthew 14:28-31 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 55:24 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What if it feels like we’re going nowhere?
Short answer: Don’t give up obeying; in due season we will reap if we do not lose heart.
▶ 57:20 He was afraid cried out said Lord save me but you got to remember he picked Peter up. And what happened. They both. Walked back to the boat. Peter walked back on the water to the boat with Jesus Christ. And I think to myself what would have happened if Peter made it all the way right would he have looked to the other side let’s go. Let’s let the boat sink let’s go now this boat stuff. Why did Jesus step down. The disciples obeyed Jesus and they did not give up are we going to give up are we going to stop obeying his word are we going to stop doing what we know to do.
▶ 58:19 Jesus I’ve been doing the same thing for 50 years 60 hundred thousand years I can’t where’s gotta be. Are we gonna keep obeying Jesus. Are we going to keep not giving up even though it feels like we’re going nowhere we’re out in the middle of the uh water and we’re paddling and we’re straining and we’re getting nowhere. Galatians 6:9 let us not grow weary while doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not lose heart. Amen. We will reap. Just like the man in Psalms 1:1. His delight was in the law of the Lord and in due season his tree his fruit would would grow.
Scripture in this part
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
— Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 58:19Psalm 1:2-3 (NKJV)
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
— Psalm 1:2-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 58:19 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What should we seek?
Short answer: Seek first the kingdom of God; don’t seek a show, a sign or a miracle, and stop worrying.
▶ 59:15 He would bear forth fruit so important do not lose heart. They kept at it they kept obeying that’s what we need to do Matthew 6:33 but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Do not seek a show do not seek a sign do not seek a miracle do not try and force Jesus to do something that you want him to do. But seek first the kingdom of God do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow worry about its own thing stop worrying about stuff Peter got out of the water and he’s like oh my gosh he started worrying about the stuff Jesus is over there he’s already done it you can do it. How many of you guys think you would have made it.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 6:33-34 (NKJV)
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
— Matthew 6:33-34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 59:15What is the increase of His government?
Short answer: Jesus is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace; He is out to change government, judgment and justice in every nation and home.
▶ 1:00:12 Amen. The promise of Jesus Christ for unto us is born. A child is born unto us the son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name will be called wonderful counselor mighty God everlasting father prince of peace I want to encourage you today when you seek Jesus you are seeking. He’s got all this stuff. Focus what are you looking for I’m encouraging you today set your sights on Jesus Christ come to him the right way and keep it up if you’re a disciple do not give up if you’re a sinner you better change how you approach Jesus Christ.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJV)
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
— Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:00:12What questions close the message?
Short answer: Do you like preaching but not applying it? Will you humble yourself, surrender, obey when you disagree, and endure opposition?
▶ 1:01:26 In the example of Herod of it the increase of his government and peace there will be no end upon the throne of David over his kingdom to order and establish with judgment and justice from that time forward even forever the zeal of the Lord will perform this God is out to change. Government. And how things are done he is out to improve judgment and justice in every nation. In the homes. In your life. In government authorities he is out to change things. And it says the increase of an increase of his government so as time goes by his increase will become more and more we need to be looking for that so do you like the preaching but not the obedience.
▶ 1:02:24 Like what’s his name Herod he liked to hear the word but he did not like applying the word are you seeking a show a sign or a miracle from Jesus are you willing to humble yourself. Like the woman who washed Jesus’s feet. And I’m not saying you have to get down and watch somebody’s feet okay we’re just saying she showed Jesus love. She found a way to humble herself and show Jesus love are you willing to surrender to his will unlike the multitude who wanted to force Jesus to be king. Are you willing to obey Jesus even when you may disagree Jesus says go across to the other side you know if you were standing there looking at the clouds and the wind and the rain and you’re thinking you know what can we do this can we walk around can we do this a different way a different time God Jesus are you sure about this because I don’t want to end up in the middle and sinking in a boat.
What is the closing prayer?
Short answer: To respond like Zacchaeus, the woman and the disciples, with a new heart and spirit.
▶ 1:03:29 God. But they did it. Right. Sometimes we don’t always agree. And we don’t always agree with God we don’t always agree with a lot of things. But are you willing to obey Jesus.
