The resurrection proves Jesus is who He said. There is historical evidence, but we can experience Him where two or three gather. He reached Saul and filled Peter’s nets; buried with Him in baptism, we walk in newness of life with our minds on things above.

What is the proof Jesus was who He said?

▶ Watch this part (0:12)

Short answer: The resurrection—discussed in a Joe Rogan clip; there is historical evidence, but why look at a picture when you can meet your true love?

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:12 Good to be in God’s house this morning uh let’s pray as we get into the word this morning lift up and ask invite our God to come and uh let’s bow our heads Lord Jesus we come before you right now Lord we pray for your word we pray that you would make it alive in our hearts Jesus your word says in the scriptures that it is a living word we pray for that living word to come Lord that would prick our hearts that your Holy Spirit would uh speak to us through the word this morning Lord Jesus for the purpose of changing into your likeness we thank you Lord Jesus amen everyone said amen amen. I want to play some videos real quick uh to kind of set the stage here and for a lot yeah well the resurrection is the one that is the most difficult for people to swallow yes that is the one that requires the most faith the most faith the most bel yeah who who who gets back up 3 days later after he gets murdered in public um who gets back up under his own.

▶ 1:35 Power what is the proof that Jesus was who he says he is in in the gospel I think the answer to that is his resurrection from the dead Jesus resurrection from the dead is Yahweh’s public and unequivocal vindication of the man whom the chief priest had rejected as a blasphemer therefore I follow Jesus in his conception of what it means to be the mesiah the inference to the resurrection of Jesus are three great independently established facts that Jesus tomb was discovered empty on the first day of the week by a group of his female followers secondly would be that various individuals and groups of people witnessed appearances of Jesus alive and finally number three would be the original disciples suddenly and sincerely came to believe that God had raised Jesus from the dead despite having every predisposition to the contrary subscribe if you want to see more all right so there that Jesus was who he says he is in in the gospel I think the answer to that.

▶ 2:42 Sorry there we go all right so these guys are talking about the resurrection Joe Rogan is a secular person he’s well known he’s got millions of views youtube and his podcast uh and he is saying that the resurrection is the hardest to swallow how could he have risen from the dead uh by his own power nobody’s ever done that second is we have a Jew ben shapiro is a Jew and he is having trouble because he is thinking like a Sadducees Sadducees don’t believe in the resurrection and did not believe in Christ Jews have trouble with that and so the speaker there very famous guy mr craig is giving the reasons and the historical evidence and this and uh talking about the Bible but there.

▶ 3:30 Is historical evidence for the resurrection but why look at a picture of your true love when you could embrace your true love why look at a picture of Jesus when you could embrace Jesus and that is the point and today we had a great example of that if you were here in this service maybe you just joined us I don’t know but I was sitting here worshiping praising God and I can feel the presence of God I know he’s alive because he’s here it’s 2025 February 9th and I have no doubt in my mind that Jesus rose from the grave because he responds he comes like he said he would come amen it’s powerful so we’re just going to look real quick Luke 24:36 as they spoke uh Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said unto them peace be unto you but they were terrified and a afraid and supposed that they had seen a spirit and he said to them why are you troubled why do your thoughts arise in your hearts behold my hands my feet that is I myself handle me and see for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see me have now we have the gospel right.

How can we experience the evidence?

▶ Watch this part (4:49)

Short answer: Where two or three gather in His name, He is in the midst—reach out and touch Him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 4:49 Luke this is written 2,000 years ago plus 2,000 plus years ago okay and I’m not going to sit here and try to tell you that you know the New Testament is the most historically accurate book and you they’ve got so many manuscripts more than every other book and that’s true the Bible is there’s 5 billion copies or more of the Bible printed throughout the world it’s the most printed book that’s true but that doesn’t mean anything to me. Today the powerful thing that we experience is that Jesus who rose from the grave is here amen amen today prise.

▶ 5:27 God and so we can experience the evidence Matthew 18:20 my uh our friend Joe Rogan can experience the evidence if you’ve never experienced Jesus Christ you can experience the evidence I experienced it as a young person when I was 12 years old and the first time I ever met God and experiened his presence his power I had no doubt in my mind that Jesus rose yeah I had heard the stories when I was a kid and children’s church I had heard the stories you know you guys went to vbs when you were younger and they tell you stories right but when you experience it it becomes real and I submit to you today and I submit to ben shapiro and Joe Rogan these guys if you want to know if Jesus rose you can experience him right now if you are willing to seek and humble yourself seek him.

▶ 6:23 Am where two or three are gathered together in my name there I am in the midst could you feel Jesus in our midst this morning yes I could am I could feel him right here where I was prayer people praying and and lifting up his name and praising him and so we have a choice when he’s here he can be in our midst uh but you remember the story of the crowd and the woman with the issue of blood the woman with the issue of blood came and touched Jesus and was healed the crowd they weren’t healed. They were letting Jesus you know they were just following what what’s the entertainment as we talked about the other week what entertaining thing is Jesus going to do now I want to see the show Jesus isn’t a show he is king of kings Lord of lords.

▶ 7:18 And so Jesus is in our midst and we have a choice are we gathered unto him or are we gathered for another reason. Romans 8:11 if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit and you can if you’ve ever felt the spirit of God come into your heart your mind and uh speak to you reveal himself to you that same spirit raised Jesus Christ from the dead so it’s not far-fetched you know the spirit of God is moving in us and he dwells in us and that same spirit raised Christ from the dead experience the evidence.

▶ 8:11 It’s important that we not just believe in our head that Jesus rose it’s not just words on a page oh this event happened I believe that that event happened 2,000 years ago no Jesus is risen he’s alive today and he wants to speak with and have a relationship with you Exodus 33:14 my presence will go with you and I will give you rest the presence of God it’s the spirit of God he the presence of God just keeps going it’s not dependent on it’s not a human being it doesn’t die presence keeps going it’s still here Psalm 16:11 you will show me the path of life and your presence is fullness of joy are are you having trouble you you know a lot of us Christians we are happy to go to church because it’s another opportunity where we can get in the presence of God and no matter what’s going on in our life no matter what situation we’re going through there is joy amen in the presence of God.

▶ 9:17 But we have to put ourselves like that woman did reaching out and touching him and Jesus is walking around he’s in our midst but we’ve got to reach out and touch him and you don’t do that with your physical hands you do that with your heart with your mouth. Amen I am with you always even to the end of the world Matthew 28:20 this is before he ro ascended into heaven if you remember that he ascended to heaven gave him the great commission said go and make disciples teaching them everything and I am what with you always so the question is Jesus is claiming a lot of things he’s saying he’s with us is he with us do you feel him with you yes is his word powerful if it’s not something’s got to change.

What happened when Paul and Silas praised?

▶ Watch this part (10:15)

Short answer: God moved—we choose to come in and give Him praise, under the blood that covers every soul.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 10:15 Amen Paul and Silas were in prison you remember this story they started praising and lifting up the name of Jesus singing hymns and they’re shackled and they’re in prison they’re laying there and all of a sudden there’s an earthquake and the shackles break and the prison doors open which is a whole another explanation and story but God showed up and he was with Paul and Silas and he’s with us today. Amen. Revelations the famous scripture where Jesus said I stand at the door and knock if anyone hears my voice opens the door I will come in and d with him you know in your life as you go home when you go to church in your daily uh time God is knocking and he’ll come to your mind and be like hey you want to spend some time go no Jesus I don’t got a time I got no.

▶ 11:24 Time uh Sunday morning church you you want to go is you want uh I no I don’t want to go with those hypocrites well Jesus is here yeah the hypocrites are here too but Jesus you know I’m here too but Jesus is here amen I might be a hypocrite but Jesus is here and all those hypocrites can meet with Jesus. Amen. Man Jesus is standing at the door and knocking we got to respond to him here is voice open the door let him. In Hebrews 12:22 powerful scripture you may have thought you came to the lake elor outlets this morning you may have thought you came to uh 167 16 no 17600 I can’t remember colier avenue lake elenor 9253 the address drove your car I’m going to this location no you came to mount Zion prise God to the city of the living God amen the heavenly Jerusalem to an enumerable company of angels to God and we might look around and be like.

▶ 12:44 This do you see michael that guy this is the place the city of the living God and you can come in and think that way but if you come in with this perspective it changes hallelujah amen it changes things amen what have you come. To to God God is here the judge he’s going to say hey I don’t like what you’re. Doing does that bother. You that’s okay thank God he’s judging me now than at the end I need to be judged. Now to the spirits of just men made perfect these men and women that we got to deal with I’m just joking right to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant and to the blood so Jesus is in there we’re coming to Jesus when you come into God’s house Jesus is part of it and to the what the blood the blood that covers the blood that is uh doesn’t.

▶ 14:01 Care the blood that covers every soul willing to receive. It the blood that will cover and cleanse us from all. Sin so remember what we’ve come. To and it’s easy to nitpick right we can come in we can nitpick we can criticize and we can really get down on God’s house and that’s your perspective that’s not God’s perspective and as long as you have your own perspective that’s not God’s sorry that’s not the way God. Seizes amen amen when we walked in this morning we came into his place his city we came into the king of kings the Lord of lords we came into God we came to.

▶ 14:58 Jesus and we have a choice every time to come in and to give him praise and glory or to do what we. Want as of 2024 approximately 20% of Americans attend church services weekly a decline from 32% in 2000 so it’s important to understand in America today there’s a decline in church attendance we do not have this perspective of how important God’s house is right if we had this perspective that oh this I’m going to the city of the living God oh I’m going to Jesus is there I’m going to God the judgment I’m going amen we would be there but we’re. Not and so this powerful mountain Zion is being neglected in. America John 5:39 these are red letters and red letters means that Jesus spoke them in the gospels you search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life and these are they which testify of me but you are not willing to come to me that you may have life and see uh we look at the all the historical evidence and the knowledge that people have gathered and they they found the dead sea scrolls and they found the copies and the manuscripts and they’re looking for this stuff and and Jesus is like you’re walking around me you know you know you’re just walking me right by I’m right here.

Will Jesus come if we seek?

▶ Watch this part (16:29)

Short answer: Yes—ask and knock; lifted up, He draws all people, even in Middle East countries.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 16:29 You don’t have to go look at the manuscript and you get dig in I’m here I’m alive I’m in the house of God I’m where am I I’ll be next to you the kingdom of God is near it’s available for. You we all have a choice right remember there was two groups when Jesus walked into that Jerusalem there were two groups of people people that rejected him and wanted him to shut. Up and people that wanted to give him glory and praise very important for us to recognize that we must be willing to come to Christ that we may have. Life and as we said last week in Luke 9 verse 23 Jesus is calling all of us whoever wants to be my disciple must what deny themselves take up their burden their cross and follow me our relationship with Christ is similar to a long-distance relationship and we must learn how to bridge the distance the great thing is that Jesus travels.

▶ 17:49 Fast and so if we seek him if we knock and we ask Jesus will come. Amen John 12:32 Jesus wants to draw all men unto himself he said if I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men unto me and so it’s important to understand this is red letters this Jesus talking that God does the drawing okay we don’t go around saving people Jesus saves people people he’s the one who draws them and he draws them but we speak his word because his word. Uh will become life in them and draw them whatever I don’t want to go into methods here I don’t want to get all method here but Jesus is the one that draws them right now in people’s lives Jesus is drawing them I just saw it with one a famous guy russell brand he all of a sudden he changed he got baptized he’s turned his life around and he’s starting to serve God and and speak his word it’s powerful amen and God drew him.

▶ 19:06 God and God is drawing men and women in middle east countries he’s revealing himself to them God has drawn you amen amen and he’s drawing individuals and one day he’s going to draw a lot more than he’s drawing right now and we want to pray for him to do that so in our prayer prayers we want to ask God to draw people unto himself. Amen no one can come to me unless the father who sent me draws them and I will raise them up at the last day if I be lifted up let’s go back to that.

▶ 19:49 Statement his statement meaning he says this he said signifying what death he should die so lifted up on the cross right but also he was lifted up from where the grave he was also lifted up in and ascended into heaven and so we want to lift up Jesus Christ Jesus Christ has risen from the grave he is here he is alive he is powerful and his goal is to draw people unto himself so as the church we are called a lampstand in Revelations chapter 1 we are called a lampstand and we need to lift up Jesus Christ for all the world to see you know if you have a light out there and it’s bright as the sun it’s only going to spread so far but as you lift it up higher and higher like the sun is in the sky the whole world gets the light it’s important for the church to lift up Jesus that is our goal and as I was talking to my youth pastor and mr barnes that the one who I uh worked with in youth uh years ago one I was involved he was one of my teachers in school I grew up uh going to the vine school in la habra and uh he was reminding me that we’ve got to keep it focused on who Christ

How does God reach people?

▶ Watch this part (21:20)

Short answer: He reached down like for Saul of Tarsus, and filled Peter’s nets after a fruitless night.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 21:20 Christ amen amen. Psalm 18:16 like Saul of Tarsus. Was reached it says he reached down from on high and took hold of me he drew me out of deep waters this is like Paul Saul of Tarsus is renamed Paul God reached down and pulled that guy from the chiefest sinner from his foolish ways from his sin and turn turned his life around and that’s what that drawing is Jesus drew him Luke.

▶ 22:05 5:4 put out in deep water and let down the nets for a catch Jesus said and Simon Peter said we’ve worked all night haven’t caught anything but because you say I will let down the nets and when he did it they caught a large number of fish right so they’re on the boat there’s no fish under the boat and if there’s no fish you’re not catching nothing I don’t know if you’ve ever gone fishing before it can be really frustrating you know how big the ocean is gone fishing with my dad he used to take me all the time we’ go out on the boat and we’d fish and they would throw out anchovies they’d throw out sardines it’s called chum to get fish to the boat right so you can catch a fish but if there’s no fish you’re not catching. Nothing and so that chum draws the fish.

▶ 22:59 Right and Jesus in one moment Peter these guys are they’ve been fishing all night there’s nothing and Jesus draws the fish to the boat and when they cast out their nets this time they caught fish you see how important it is to have Jesus involved in this process amen amen and that’s why we want to pray and ask him to draw people to the boat. But we don’t stop fishing because we didn’t get the mother load right you still put your hook out there and we want to get people out of that kingdom of darkness in acts chapter. 2 they prayed uh this is after Jesus rose from the grave he ascended into heaven they prayed until Pentecost so they they had prayed were praying for 10 days seeking God and then they experienced the Holy Spirit came and they got tongues uh of fire and started speaking in different languages the people that heard it in different languages started to to say who are these people they’re speaking the mighty works of God in my native tongue back you know in my hometown.

▶ 24:21 And they spoke from the spirit to the people that crucified Christ the people that crucified Christ were there remember I told you at the uh the other story when they came into Jerusalem there were two kinds of people two groups the people that hated Christ and the people that loved him there were people a group of people that cried out and said crucify Jesus remember that right and those people were there in Acts 2 the ones that crucified. Jesus and Peter is speaking to them and gives them a message and 3,000 people repented and turned and came to Christ that day the apostles it says they did signs and wonders and so what I what I want to point out here is that they touched the spirit of God and then that powerful spirit worked through them to reach people and if we want to reach people because that’s what God is calling us to do we’ve got to touch our God praise God we you got to touch the spirit you’ve got to take your own time if you have a goal to make disciples you got to take your own time to seek your God to touch his spirit to let his word get into you so you can be used by him amen.

What is the impact of the resurrection?

▶ Watch this part (25:49)

Short answer: Confess and believe; buried with Him in baptism, we walk in newness of life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 25:49 Amen Romans 10:9 the impact of the resurrection Paul is writing to the Romans and he says uh you have to believe in your heart that God raised Christ from the dead and you shall be saved part of getting saved is believing in that resurrection uh like I said earlier it’s not hard when Jesus comes in the room and on today’s date at a certain time he comes now I I don’t have much trouble believing in the resurrection amen he’s.

▶ 26:24 Here Romans 6:4 therefore we are buried with him in baptism unto death like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory even so we should walk in newness of life it’s important that we understand this resurrection because Jesus rose we the impact of that on our lives is that we should walk in what newness of life it’s not just that we’re happy and we’re smiling and we’re whistling and newness oh I’m new it’s old things have what pass passed away all things have become new that resurrection impact on your life should change the way you think the way you speak and the way you act amen and no you’re not going to be like Jesus overnight but you should be headed that way amen that’s the goal and we’re going to have that’s a big goal amen amen.

▶ 27:29 You’re going to have to work at that goal for the rest of your life hallelujah. Hallelujah Romans 6 knowing this that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed we should not serve sin for he that is dead is freed from sin just reminding us that this powerful death on the cross the resurrection Christ is not wanting you he’s not just wanting to give you a license to keep sinning okay the goal is to repent turn away from put it behind you not become a servant of sin okay when we accept Christ and we stay drug addicts who are we serving we’re serving those drugs we’re stuck that’s not the purpose of the cross the resurrection Jesus rose from the grave that’s a powerful work and he can do a powerful work in your life.

Where should our minds be?

▶ Watch this part (28:36)

Short answer: On things above—grace teaches us to deny ungodliness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 28:36 As the worship team comes Colossians 3:1 if you then uh as Miss Woods comes sorry if you if you then be risen with Christ seek those things which are above which Christ where Christ sits on the right hand of God set your affection on things above not on things of the earth see Christ is reminding us that we need to get our focus back on him back on his goals his purposes you can have all kinds of goals in life and yes we have to take care of our natural needs you have to work you have to take care of family children and whatever situation you’re in right it’s your burden your time year whatever you’re dealing with but we must also set our affection our goal and seek those things which are.

▶ 29:34 Above and this uh young people deal with a lot you know my kids people’s kids you know we we want to what is the world go what’s going on in the world right now oh he’s really cool I want to follow that guy the the world’s they’re advertising all the time right they’re all kinds of advertisements all kinds of uh trying to pull them to to to do and act a certain way speak a certain way like this thing by this thing but Christ is saying. Hey set your affection your mind your heart your love on things that are. Above do we want to honor God every day do we want to work at his great commission calling us to make disciples do we set goals for his purpose do we want to grow in the fruits of the spirit.

▶ 30:38 Yes that’s what the call is saying we’ve got to set our mind on what he wants to. Do Titus uh 2:11 the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust we should live soberly righteously and godly in this present age and purify for himself his own special people that’s us amen we are a chosen generation amen a chose a special people that’s us and it says zealous for what good works let your light so shine that people may see what your good works you know it’s a good thing when you don’t hurt your neighbor it’s a good thing when you don’t steal from walmart it’s a good thing when you’re not you know it’s a good thing yes it it’s a good thing when you go to work and you work hard and you do your job and you make an honest wage and honest pay you don’t just say oh well I got to do I got to sell drugs that’s all I can.

▶ 31:48 Do that’s that’s real that’s going on in our state right now. Now I know I quoted the verse here but I want to point out something real quick it says the grace of God the grace of God has appeared to all and teaching us the grace of God teaches. Us now I know about the grace of God that covers and you feel that grace and I thank you Jesus but this grace teaches. Us it’s has influence has a message have you experienced that grace. Before teaching us what to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts to live soberly righteously and godly it’s so important that we understand God’s full.

▶ 32:46 Calling and it’s pretty simple hey that’s bad stop doing that that’s good start doing that right right. Sounds easy amen uh Colossians 3 if you want to find out more about what it’s talking. About it explains what we need to set our affections on it explains what to stop set your setting your affection on and start putting your affection on it actually names them and we can find these things in the scriptures if you want to seek God the Bible’s here okay I get the paper you can go you can read you can look up these scriptures lead into it ask God to make it real to you make some changes in your life this is available to you if you’re if we’re willing to seek him or if we’re willing to pursue this the word is there and so.

How does the service close?

▶ Watch this part (33:44)

Short answer: We can experience the resurrection—“Jesus, all for Jesus,” prayer for one another, “Oh the blood of Jesus,” and the offering.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 33:44 The message today is that we can experience the resurrection we don’t have to believe it in our mind we can experience the risen king. Jesus we can experience his presence and we also want to understand the impact is that he wants to change us he wants to make us a new creation very important Christ wants to be lifted up so that he can draw all people and we got to lift them up amen I’m not here to tell you about a man I’m not here to say that you know Miss Woods is the best thing you got to listen to her and I’m here to to tell you about Jesus right we’re here to lift up. Jesus and in your conversations you know lift up who.

▶ 34:38 Jesus and you may know a great teacher you may know a great pastor but when you talk with people who do you lift up. Jesus seek God Christ and his Holy Spirit to receive his power quit the sin and get the zeal for the good amen amen so we’re going to sing this song in response Jesus all for Jesus and this song is a prayer and we want to take some time this morning we’re going to have a a time at the front you’re welcome to join us there’s pads for kneeling and you can come and and pray to God you can commit to God this morning and respond to him we want to do that this morning so I invite you will you stand with me as we sing this unto him this is our prayer Jesus. All for.

▶ 35:35 Jesus all I am and have and never hope to. Be Jesus. Jesus all for Jesus. All I am and now and never holds to be for it only for it ho. Is your will and that I am. Free for it’s only in.

▶ 36:28 Your will that. I am. Free. Jesus all for. Jesus all I am. And and ever hold. The as we continue seeking God this morning we want to respond we want that power of the resurrection right now we we’re going to pray individually right now that that resurrection power would come to our lives that it would cleanse us that blood would cleanse us from our sin and that we would receive that that resurrection power to be changed into and transformed into his likeness and walk in newness of life amen don’t we want that life yes let’s pray for that this morning let’s lift up our voices and pray Lord God we come before you right now Lord Jesus we pray for your cleansing on our lives we pray for your cleansing in our soul Jesus we ask God that you Lord God would wash us purify us and we thank you Lord for that Lord God we come before you this morning

▶ 37:59 we pray for that resurrection power we pray for the resurrection of the king of kings and the Lord of lords and God we ask Jesus Lord that you Lord God would come so powerfully in our lives that you would come Lord that spirit the same spirit that rose you from the grave Lord let it dwell in us this morning God the same spirit hallelujah thank you Jesus oh oh Jesus Jesus Jesus God oh God we pray for that powerful spirit this morning we pray for that powerful spirit this morning Jesus Jesus king of kings Lord of lords God we call on you this morning Jesus Jesus Jesus.
