From the sermonWe Have an Enemy · Pastor David G. Kincer▶ 0:00

In this message Pastor David G. Kincer teaches from Isaiah 59:19 that the enemy comes in like a flood and the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. He lists philosophies he says oppose God, then shows from Genesis and the flood that God makes a way of escape, and urges the church to warn people.

What does Isaiah 59:19 mean when the enemy comes in like a flood, and what defeats him?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: He says there is “an enemy against God and an enemy against the Word,” and a flood “does nothing but damage.” He says the church is “trying to do this stuff on their own,” but the key to defeating the enemy is the Spirit: “the Spirit will lift up a standard against him.”

▶ 0:00 We neglect, we disregard many priority doctrines, and one of these is Isaiah 59:19. Isaiah 59:19 says, “When the enemy comes in like a flood.” Number one, the enemy. We have an enemy. There is an enemy against God and an enemy against the Word, and when the enemy comes in like a flood (and all of us know a flood does nothing but damage; when you hear the word “flood,” you know there is damage, you know the water is out of control). Secondly, “the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a...” The Spirit of the Lord. Now, folks, this is where we’re missing it. The church is trying to do this stuff on their own. If we could have done it on our own, why we have needed Jesus?

▶ 1:00 Why would we need the Holy Ghost? And it’s amazing, we start out right, we get saved and we start out right, and then we start leaning on ourself and on our own knowledge and understanding, but the key to defeating the enemy is what? The Spirit. The Spirit that everybody in America is arguing about, that’s the very part of God that will defeat your enemies. Good place for an amen. Amen means so be it. How many need your enemies defeated? Yeah, opposition. Yes, and they’re bigger than you are. You know, “the Spirit will lift up a standard against him.” Now, the word “standard” is not talking about a banner. There, when we worshiped God this morning and they talked about raising the banner, you notice I went over and got a banner, and the song said to raise the banner, so I, “Give me a banner.” I don’t have to wait for permission. They got the song, I just do what it says. Can I hear an amen? You say, “Well, that might not be in order.” Well, then don’t sing the song.

Scripture (NKJV)

Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)

So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

— Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:07

What does “the Spirit will lift up a standard” mean, and does God make a way of escape?

▶ Watch this part (2:19)

Short answer: He says “standard” has two meanings: to flee or escape, and to attack the enemy. He says whether God flees the enemy or causes you to flee, “He is going to move on your behalf,” and that “there is no temptation come upon anybody” that God will not make a way of escape from.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 2:19 If you don’t want me lifting up a banner, then don’t sing the song. You don’t want me dancing, then don’t sing a song that says dance. Because this guy has learned the key is to obey the Scriptures, not just sing them, not just memorize them, but obey them. Is that a good place for us? So be it. Yeah. Now, the standard here has two meanings. You know, just like the word “bear,” b-e-a-r, in our language has several meanings: bear, an animal, grizzly bear, brown bear. It also means to carry: “I will bear that.” It also means falling prices: we got a bear market or a bear economy, things are falling down. Or it means to produce fruit. Jesus said, “I wish that you bear fruit and that your fruit remain.” See, it’s producing something. And so the standard here has two meanings: to flee, to escape, to take flight, to depart (and, uh, that’s us escaping from the enemy). The second meaning is different: it’s attacking the enemy. It means to fly to the attack, to put to flight. See, and the Spirit is going to lift up a standard against who? The enemy, him, the enemy.

▶ 3:48 And He’s going to make a way of escape. And you know, the Bible says in the New Testament that there is no temptation come upon anybody that’s not common to man, that God will make a way of escape that you might bear up under it. You can handle it. Whether God flees the enemy or whether God causes you to flee, He is going to move on your behalf. All right, we got that part now. See, what’s the important thing in this verse? The Spirit. I can’t do this. I learned as a young believer I couldn’t do this stuff on my own. You know, as a young believer people would make fun of me because I claimed to be a Christian and I was making mistakes. Say, “I said I’m going to go to church with a bunch of hypocrites anyway.” I said, “Well, at least we’re going.” I said, “Is a Marine, when he enters the base the first day, is he really a Marine? The next week, is he a Marine? The next two weeks, is he a Marine?” No, he’s not a Marine till he passes and gets the standard, the U.S. standard, to be a Marine. He’s a Marine. I said, “Yes, we’re in church, and we’re learning how to be a Christian, but at least we’re there learning.” Can I hear an amen? Yeah. We got our flaws, we got our m— but we’re there, we’re trying to be like Him. We want that stamp to be like Him.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV)

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:55

Is it safe to seek the Holy Ghost, and does the church help me grow? (Psalm 92:13)

▶ Watch this part (5:34)

Short answer: He says most Pentecostals “only experience putting our finger in the socket” and did not learn to channel it, yet “at least we felt the power of God.” He says “I don’t have to be afraid of the Holy Ghost because somebody botches it up,” and that the church will cause him to grow.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 5:34 Hallelujah. And these people that want to argue about the Holy Ghost, listen, I told you last week, us Pentecostals, most of us only experience putting our finger in the socket. We didn’t learn how to channel it. But what I tell my adversaries that’s against the Holy Ghost: at least we put our finger in the socket. At least we felt the power of God, right? Amen. Hallelujah. And then we can learn how to channel it. Now, that’s good stuff. Church, I don’t have to be afraid of the Holy Ghost because somebody botches it up, and I don’t have to be afraid of God fulfilling His word that in the church I can grow. “They that be planted in the house of the Lord shall” what? Flourish “in the courts of our God.” The church will cause me to grow. It’s a principle of God. So I’m going, and I’m one of the hypocrites, but in the end we’re going to be in His likeness. Somewhere I’m going to grow up.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 92:13 (NKJV)

— Psalm 92:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:20

Who do we wrestle against, and what does he say about atheists? (Ephesians 6:12)

▶ Watch this part (6:37)

Short answer: He says we are attacking the philosophies, not the people: “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers,” the principles of men that try to capture our mind. He then lists the first opposing philosophy, atheism, saying that “when you speak something that’s against God, you are an enemy.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 6:37 Hallelujah. Now, we need that standard lifted up in America. We have more than seven opposing philosophies. It’s the philosophies that we are attacking back. It’s the philosophies that we need to lift up a standard against. It’s not the people. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in high places.” We wrestle against the principles of men that try to capture our mind. Paul said a person can be a good person, but if he’s got a few flaws, he’s opposing God. We have to, with the Word, try to correct that stuff. Can I hear an amen? And so first we have the atheists, who don’t believe there is a God. They say there is no God. There’s 2% of the population is atheist. How many percent? 2%. Did they get the Bible out of public schools? Yeah. You call that a democracy? 2% got the Bible out of public schools. That’s not a democracy. A democracy is the majority rules.

▶ 7:49 Just letting you think all right. They say that humanity is the absolute total source of ethics and values. Individuals themselves can resolve moral problems. We don’t need a God. There is no life after death, there is no lake of fire, there is no judgment after death, you just go to the grave, and there are some churches who believe that nonsense. All right, atheist. So that opposes God. See, when you speak something that’s against God, you are an enemy, you are opposing, you hate God, and that’s when I’m out there debating you, who hear me lift my voice and I tell them like it is: “You are haters.” Why? Because they’re opposing God. “You are bashers.” Why? They’re bashing the Bible. They’re bashing. I just tell them what they are. I’m just telling them the truth. “Well, as Christians, you shouldn’t do that.” Oh, and where do you find that twisted scripture in the Bible? Are you out there? You may not be able to reach your enemy, but those that hear you may get convicted and learn and change. All right, then we have the hedonist. Pleasure is the highest good. Whatever causes pleasure is right. Whatever makes you happy is right.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

— Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:55

What does he say about hedonists and liberals?

▶ Watch this part (9:31)

Short answer: He says the hedonist holds that “whatever makes you happy is right,” and he says some Christians believe that. He says “everybody should get their fair share” opposes Scripture, since “if you don’t work you don’t eat,” and that making people “a slave to welfare” takes away their drive. He says church liberals deny that Jesus is God and born of a virgin.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 9:31 Right. So if I want to go out on my wife, and I feel good about it, I, man, it gives me pleasure, it’s got to be right. If I want to go steal somebody’s car and take a ride down Main Street and I’m happy, it’s got to be right. Are you there? And there’s Christians that believe that. The third one is a liberalist. Now, liberals, there’s two sources of them: they’re in the church and secular. Secular means non-spiritual, no spirit in the secular. For instance, we hear it all the time, “Everybody should get their fair share.” Well, that really opposes the Scripture. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. So that’s what an enemy. Hallelujah. Sounds really humane, sounds very compassionate, but when you make people a slave to welfare and they lose their ambition, they lose their drive, and they lose that exercising of working, we’re opposing the Bible, and that’s an enemy. Are you there? And they say they care. Obama says it’s care. “We’re humanitarian, we care.” No, it’s hate. See, if you really cared for them, you would make a way for them to get a job and work. Hallelujah. Somebody’s got to teach this stuff.

▶ 11:22 Then there is the church liberals. Jesus is not God, He’s not born of a virgin, there is no judgment after death because God is love and He can hurt no one. See, that’s in the church. That’s the liberal part of the church. Are you with me? And we need to understand these philosophies and not be destroyed by them and captured by them. Humanists. Humanists are much like atheists, and by the way, the liberals are 23% of the American population. 23%, and they’re running things. It’s not a democracy at all. Uh, humanists are 16%. There is no God, the universe is self-existing, it was not created, man is part of nature, he emerged by evolution. In other words, we come from a rock. Now, that sounds about as [unclear] science as Brooklyn talks like she knows what she’s doing. My two-year-old granddaughter. Just because you say something doesn’t make it science, does it? What’s the word for science? Knowledge. It’s knowledge. It’s just the word for knowledge.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV)

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.

— 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:19 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What does he say about humanists and Christian children in public schools?

▶ Watch this part (13:02)

Short answer: He says humanists believe there is no God and “no right and wrong,” and want to “get rid of all authority over anyone’s life.” He says they took their battle to the public schools, and he says Christians who put their kids there are “opening yourself up for losing your children at a very high rate.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 13:02 All right, there is no right and wrong. Morals come by human experience, whatever. If it feels good to it, you don’t need a theological, a moral, or political authority. See, they want to get rid of all authority over anyone’s life telling them what to do. That’s the humanist. And they said they would take their battle to the public schools in the ‘40s, and they did, and they won in the public schools. And Christians who put their kids in public schools are insane. You are opening yourself up for losing your children at a very high rate. Christians that go to public school, 75% of them leave the faith when they get out of school. Now, 50% of them come back, but why lose it? 75% who are raised in a good example, Christian home and they go to a good Christian school and taught and learn the principles of God, 75% of them stay in the faith. A big switch. Huh. Hallelujah.

What does he mean by a “religionist”?

▶ Watch this part (14:15)

Short answer: He says a religionist “follows their specific religious organizations or personal beliefs above the Bible and Jesus,” and “will defend their denomination above Jesus Christ Himself.” He gives his own estimate of 85% of the Christian world in America, and tells of a woman who said “I don’t care what the Bible says” and said she would follow her church leader.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 14:15 Uh, religionist. Religionist, from my prediction (this is me, there’s no statistic on this), is 85% of the Christian world in America. A religionist is one who follows their specific religious organizations or personal beliefs above the Bible and Jesus. They will defend their personal beliefs, they will defend their denomination above Jesus Christ Himself and the Bible. I told you before, I had a woman tell me once, when I said, “The Bible says,” she said, “I don’t care what the Bible says,” because her church leader was a phony and I was telling her why that guy was doing things that was against Scripture, and she said, “I don’t care what the Bible says. That’s a man of God, and I’m going to follow him.” We’re not told to follow a man. Who are we told to follow? Jesus. Come on, church.

What does he say about evolution and people who say the Bible is a lie?

▶ Watch this part (15:31)

Short answer: He says only 15% of Americans believe in evolution, according to a poll he cites, and that evolutionists “say the Bible’s a lie.” He says Christians “have to oppose that philosophy that destroys people’s life” and “come back with God’s philosophy that sets people free,” and that “they have a right to freedom of speech, we have a right to freedom of speech.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 15:31 So the evolution is, of course, there’s 15%. I did not know this, this was new to me. A Gallup poll just taken in 2012: only 15% of Americans believe in evolution. I was shocked. The way they projected, I thought 80%. Dead. Isn’t that a good one? We ought to be excited about that. Most Americans aren’t falling for that lie. Yeah. And basically they say the Bible’s a lie, that God did not create the world, it just spontaneously happened, and we don’t know where the first molecule or the first atom or the first cell came from, but this is the way it happened. And so they are opponents of God. Now, so here we are: atheists, no God; hedonists, sex, drugs, parties, feels good, do it; liberals, church and secular; humanists, no God again; evolutionists say the Bible’s a lie; homosexuals say they can’t change.

▶ 16:49 They bash Jesus, they say the Bible is a book of myths. In fact, one of the big homosexual activists said the Bible is BS, it is a book of bull [expletive]. That’s what he said, and they openly say that. And then the Christians want to be nice little people. “Well, we love you.” No, we have to oppose that philosophy that destroys people’s life. We got to come back with God’s philosophy that sets people free. Amen. And I don’t have to go, “Oh, God loves you.” I can talk to them straight, just like they talk to the American people straight. They have a right to freedom of speech, we have a right to freedom of speech. We have a right to say what God said. They have a right to say their own lies if they want to. We’re in America. Are you with me?

Is there historical proof that God lifted up a standard when the enemy came in? (Genesis 2–3)

▶ Watch this part (17:50)

Short answer: He says “Bible morality is the standard,” and that if God backed up the Scripture, “then we can possess this Scripture today.” He says God told Adam and Eve they would die if they ate of the tree, and asks whether He would kill them or “make a way of escape,” since He is “the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 17:50 Religionists twist the Scriptures to their own destruction, and that’s going to be one of these doctrines we’re going to talk about, twisting Scripture. All right. They twist the Scripture to please themselves. Now, Bible morality is the standard. All right, Bible morals, Bible right, Bible truths, that is the standard that God will raise up every time. And we’re going to ask ourself this question: is there historical, scriptural proof that God lifted up a standard when the enemy came in? Is that a good question? In other words, did God back up the Scripture? Because if God backed it up, then we can possess this Scripture today.

▶ 18:42 We’re going to go to Genesis, right at the beginning. God came and told them they were all going to die if they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. All right, just like we’re told we’re going to die if we keep sinning, the wages of sin is death. The [unclear]. You see, all right, they went and they ate of the tree of knowledge. Now, is God going to kill them, or is He going to raise up a standard? Is He going to make a way of escape for them, and is He going to put the enemy to flight? Is He going to keep His word? How many know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever? The same God that works in the New Testament has to be the same God that works in the Old Testament and the same God that works today. Amen. So we need historical proof. Number two, God gave a way of escape. He didn’t kill Adam and Eve like He said He would. Did He? Why?

How did God make a way of escape for Adam and Eve? (Genesis 3:21-24)

▶ Watch this part (19:49)

Short answer: He says God confronted Satan, shed an animal’s blood and “covered them with the skin of the animal,” which was “the first written illustration of God’s plan.” He says God removed them from the tree of life “so they wouldn’t eat of the tree of life and live in sin, but they would have a chance to repent, ask forgiveness, and be reconciled back to God.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 19:49 See, and He came and directly opposed Satan. He directly confronted Satan, who deceived them first. God shed blood for their sin. God shed an animal’s blood and covered them with the skin of the animal. Are you there? And that’s the first written illustration of God’s plan. God already knew He was going to die for the sins of the world. The Bible says His blood was shed before the foundation of the world. That was already in God’s plan. God didn’t think of it because Adam and Eve messed up, but this is our first illustration that was His plan, and He backed it up. Isn’t that beautiful, folks? That’s powerful. Now, because that way they could, what? Come to their senses, ask forgiveness, repent, and be reconciled back to God, which they did. See, Adam and Eve was reconciled back to God, and they didn’t do that anymore.

▶ 21:02 Secondly, He removed them from access to the tree of life. Here’s that standard. You see, He made a way of escape. He drove them from the garden so they wouldn’t eat of the tree of life and live in sin, but they would have a chance to repent, ask forgiveness, and be reconciled back to God. Does that sound like New Testament stuff? Of course. That’s what Jesus did. Yes, He told us we would die if we sinned, and when He comes to us, He attacks sin, and He gives us the way of escape. Folks, that’s powerful. Are you out there? Are you alive? Thirdly, He said to Satan (this is His words to Satan, God comes and speaks to Satan personally and says), “Satan, there’s going to be enmity” (war, hatred) “between you and the woman, between the woman...” Now, you want to put down women? Uh, I don’t know how you’re going to do that. Here God personally said there’s going to be war between the woman and Satan. Why did He use the word “woman”? Because all through the Bible His people, God’s church, is an allegory of a bride, and He keeps that all the way through.

What does God say to Satan about “the woman’s seed”? (Genesis 3:15)

▶ Watch this part (22:40)

Short answer: He says God said there would be war between Satan’s seed and “the woman’s seed,” and that He, Jesus, “will destroy your authority and your power.” He says the Bible says that “through death He destroyed Satan who had the power of death.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 22:40 Hallelujah. He didn’t say Adam, He said woman, “and between Satan’s seed and the woman’s seed,” and He, Jesus, will destroy your authority and your power. Do you see the standard? He made a way of escape for them, and then He attacks the enemy and says, “You know, you’re going to be put down by the woman’s seed, that God is going to be manifested in the flesh, and He is going to destroy you, the power of Satan.” The Bible says through death He destroyed Satan, who had the power of death. Hallelujah. Folks, I would highly recommend you take these notes and go home and get this into you. This stuff is basic, and yet it’s deep at the same time. It’s very revelational, and it will totally change your thinking, your faith, and your belief and your victory and your Christian living. Amen.

How did God make a way of escape in Noah’s day? (Genesis 6)

▶ Watch this part (23:46)

Short answer: He says that when the earth was filled with violence, God told Noah to build an ark, “just like we build the church,” with one door and one window. He says Noah “preached righteousness” for 100 years, and “only had seven converts,” yet “you’re not measured by numbers,” and those who listened and got involved went into the ark.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 23:46 No matter what trouble I’m going through, God’s going to raise up a standard, He’s going to make a way of escape. I’ve got to have knowledge of how to escape, and I’ve got to be seeking Him so that He can destroy the enemy, because He will do it. Now, is more historical proof number two, Genesis 6. The earth was filled with violence and evil, the whole world, okay, and God says, “I’m going to destroy all of mankind. They’re all going to die.” Then God saw Noah. He was perfect and upright in his generation, he hated evil and loved righteousness, he was in God’s, uh, list of heroes over there in Ezekiel: Noah. God had Noah to build an ark. Okay, how many doors were in the ark? How many doors were in the ark? Yeah, good. Yeah, yeah. How many doors are there to the church? One. How many windows were in there? How many windows were in the ark? One. How many windows is there to heaven? Yeah, say prayer. We can pray to God, we can go directly to God.

▶ 25:11 All right, so he built an ark, just like we build the church. Okay, Noah preached and lived righteousness. Noah preached to them for 100 years. He preached righteousness. He didn’t preach faith and grace, he preached what? Righteousness: turn and do right. He only had seven converts: his wife, his three boys, and three girls that come out of that world of violence and evil, and there were the only three girls available. So his boys met, married these girls. You want a good woman, live right. You want a good man, get into church, find one. Hallelujah. Only three people listened from the world, three from his own household: his sons, or four, his wife. He didn’t have, like these megachurch pastors, all these thousands of people. He got three, four from his house and three from the world. Was he still successful? Yes, because he did what God told him to do. You’re not measured by numbers.

▶ 26:47 Now we see that Satan’s seed was destroyed by the flood, just like it said in Genesis, and we see they that listened and worked on the ark went into the ark and escaped the destruction. Did you hear that? They that listened, repented, they got involved in building the ark, they’re the ones that went into the ark. I was just telling my sons a week ago, if you don’t get involved in the church, I don’t care if you’re an usher, a musician, a, just scrubbing the toilets, mowing the lawn, greeting people, if you don’t do something in the church, you will wind up religious. You’ll be 85% of the religionist in the Christian world, a lot of verbal and no power. Are you out there? Yeah. Did Jesus choose 12 disciples from just anybody, or those that followed and served Him? Yes. Get involved, take on a responsibility, do something.

Scripture (NKJV)

How does he say the Bible’s predictions prove it is from God?

▶ Watch this part (28:13)

Short answer: He says God named Babylon, Persia and Greece and predicted what they would do “hundreds of years before they were a nation,” and described Rome without naming it. He says that “shows this Bible is God,” because “only God can tell what the future holds and bring it to pass.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 28:13 Same with Lot and Sodom. You can look up these stories, and Moses in Egypt, same thing. God raised up a standard, God made a way of escape. It is scripturally historical. Are we clear so far? Is this good? Yes, okay. Hallelujah. Now, God starts talking about Assyria and what that nation’s going to do. He names Babylon, named it and said what it was going to do. He named Persia and predicted what it was going to do. He named Greece, Greece, and predicted what it was going to do hundreds of years before they were a nation, and they did it. Now, you young ones need to know this, because that shows this Bible is God. The Bible says only God can tell what the future holds and bring it to pass. Idols, intellects, they can’t do that. Only God can, and you need to know this. Then this last kingdom, Rome, He didn’t name, but He said it will engulf all the other nations, and it did, and it was going to be terrible, and in this nation the King of kings is going to be born, and a people’s going to be raised up in the Roman Empire, and lo and behold, Jesus was born, and Jesus lifted up a standard against the enemy, that we would not be destroyed and be reconciled to our God.

What destruction does Jesus save us from, and what must we do? (Matthew 13:40, 19:16-19, John 14:23)

▶ Watch this part (30:03)

Short answer: He says the enemy’s result is eternal fire, citing Matthew 3:12 and 13:40 and Matthew 25:46. He says that when a man asked what to do for eternal life, Jesus said “if you will enter into life, keep the commandments,” and that Jesus said a man who loves Him will “keep My words.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 30:03 Now, we asked ourselves, what destruction? What destruction did Jesus say we were going to be saved from? What is that enemy? What is the results of that? Eternal fire. Matthew 3:12 and Matthew 13:40: “The tares are gathered and burned in the fire at the end of this world. He will cast them into a furnace of fire.” The tares, the Bible says, are children of the wicked one. What did He tell Satan? This woman’s seed will be at war with your seed, they that follow you, and they will destroy, through Jesus, Jesus will destroy your authority, and they will put Satan under their feet themselves. How’s He going to do it? Bible moral laws. Okay, Matthew 25:46 and 19:16. How is He going to raise up a standard and save us from that destruction? Matthew 19: “What good thing?” The guy asked, “What shall I do that I might have eternal life?” and Jesus said, “Believe on Me.” Is that what it says? Doesn’t say that, does it? Why do they always harp on the other part of this and never this one? Because we’re just like our American government: we want everybody to have everything for nothing. We want illegals coming over here without going through the proper procedure. You see, they want to offer you eternal life with nothing from you, no requirements from you.

▶ 31:58 But yet Jesus told him, “If you will enter into life, keep the commandments.” The man said, “Which commandments?” trying to trip up Jesus, and Jesus said, “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery” (sexual immorality), “you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your parents, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” He brought in that one, which is not part of the Ten Commandments, but wraps up the last six. The last six commandments is totally my interaction with you, how I treat you. The first one is totally with God, the first four is totally between me and God of the Ten Commandments. What are the followers of Jesus responsible for? Okay, how many is a follower of Jesus Christ, okay, and profess to know Him? Okay, what are you responsible for? What’s your responsibility? John 14:23, Jesus said, “If a man loves Me, he will” what? “Keep My words.” If you don’t read the book, how you going to keep the book? And if you read, read, and you know the book and you don’t keep the book, what good does it do you? And “you read to assemble yourself even the more so as you see the day approaching,” and yet you can’t get up enough energy to even go to church and be a part of it. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,” and yet you cannot discipline your finances to put 10 cents of every dollar away for God. What good is it?

What does he say are our responsibilities, and what is the warning in the story of Lazarus and the rich man? (Luke 16)

▶ Watch this part (34:02)

Short answer: He says our responsibility is to love and follow Jesus first: “I got to obey Jesus no matter what my pastor does.” From Luke 16 he says the rich man in torment wanted someone sent to “testify to my brothers… lest they too come into this place,” and he says “hell’s real.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 34:02 See, our responsibility is to what? Love Jesus. Love our pastor? Yeah, but not like Jesus, not even the same degree, not even in the same ballpark. I’ve got to follow Jesus. I got to obey Jesus no matter what my pastor does. Is that correct? Yeah. Well, I got to love my husband. Yeah, but the way to love your husband is love that Man, Jesus, because He will shape you into being someone that can love when you’re not loved, without whining and crying, and behave in a manner that He wants to love you, and the same with a man. Are you there? Second thing, Luke 16:26. Let me have your attention. This is important. Lazarus died, and the angels carried him to heaven. The rich man died, and the demons carried him to hell, or, yeah, no angels. Uh, he was in hell. Somebody put him in hell, and in hell he lifted up his eyes and saw Lazarus afar off, up in heaven. Just, hallelujah, everything’s fine up there. And he said, “Send Lazarus down that he might dip his finger in water and touch my tongue, because I am tormented in these flames.” You young ones, get that, that you’re going to stand before God one of these days and be held accountable. Yeah, and hell’s real. It’s real.

▶ 36:11 And then he says, “Okay, if you can’t do that, send Lazarus back, resurrecting from the dead, and send him back to my brothers, to testify to my brothers,” to teach them, instruct them, admonish them and warn them, notify them, advise them, caution them “lest they too come into this place of torment.” See, “testify” means and “warn” means to teach, to advise, to caution in regard to some future happening from a personal knowledge and experience. Do we, through the Bible, have a personal knowledge of a hell? Yes. How many don’t want to experience it? Yeah. Well, this guy experienced it, let me tell you. See, he not only had the knowledge, now he had the experience, and he wants his brothers to avoid this. Now, folks, if that is so urgent, how much more urgent should it be for us, the church, to be getting the message out and warning and telling people, so that God can raise up a standard in their life and they can escape?

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 16:19-31 (NKJV)

“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’ “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”

— Luke 16:19-31 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:04

Why must the church keep warning people, and does it matter how it is said?

▶ Watch this part (37:42)

Short answer: He says the burden is to get the Word out and “warn them,” and that “it doesn’t matter how it’s said, it’s the message we need to listen to.” He tells a story of a police officer telling him to evacuate a fire, and says people should not turn off a message because of how it is delivered, since “it’s the message that will set you free.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 37:42 Amen. And so we have a burden on us to get the Word of God out, and we need, every year I’m saying this, and we’re still not getting the Word of God out like we should: the printed word, the audible word, the video word, the Internet word. We need to take on [unclear] personally and get the word out to them, warn them. And then some people say, “Well, it’s all in how you say it.” Well, let me give you a little illustration here. At this fire that came over this property, we evacuated the kids from the school. Christina was on the ball and had the kids out by 12:30 or so. We took the horses out. I had the tractor down there scraping down the brush behind the house. I didn’t want the house to burn down. That fire is coming over that mountain, and it’s moving pretty quick, you know, covering a mile in two hours is pretty fast, and that fire is about 300 feet from me, and I’m still knocking down this brush.

▶ 38:52 And one of the firemen comes over and says, “Sir, you did a great job, you’ve saved the building, but it’s time to go.” And he said it with empathy, with feeling, and I already knew it. It’s time to go. I already had my exit route planned out. I, the, the, the gas, the smoke was up here in the air, it wasn’t down here where you’re breathing, so you could last a lot longer. If that smoke would have dropped, I’d have been out of there early. How many know that? But anyway, he was right. He said it nice and politely. I didn’t have to leave the property, just like Harry Truman at Mount St. Helens, when they told him to leave his property, the Mount St. Helens was going to erupt. He said, “I ain’t leaving here, I lived here all my life, I’m going to die here,” and he stayed there and he died, and I could have stayed there. Well, anyway, I go around and I drop the tractor off, and I come around, and this guy pulls up in a car, and he says, “You got to evacuate now,” and I go, “Who are you?”

▶ 39:59 I said, “Are you the fire department?” He said, “No, I’m a police officer.” I go, “Oh,” and I kept on doing what I was doing, and he says, I said, “You got to leave now.” I didn’t even pay him any mind. He was grouchy, grumpy, authoritative, and anything else, but I know who I am, and I know my rights, and I know what I got to get done. I had three more things to get done. I was going to get them done. Now, I could have been stupid and said, “Well, if that’s the way he’s going to talk to me, I’m not leaving, I’ll show him,” and I could have burned with him. He didn’t talk to me right. How many know, folks, it doesn’t matter how we say it, it’s still the truth, and you better listen. You know, if your mentality is, “Well, talk to me, say please, and I’ll listen,” grow up. Not all of us are going to talk to you the sweet way: “You poor little thing, we don’t want to hurt your feelings, but you’re going to hell.” Oh God, you’re going to hell. We may say, “Idiot, turn or burn.” It doesn’t matter how it’s said, it’s the message we need to listen to. Can I hear an amen?

▶ 41:19 It doesn’t matter if you’re there smiling like Joel, smiling, never, never misses a smile. I’d like to see him in real life. You got it. Folks, don’t turn off the message because a tooth is missing in someone, or they can’t say the English language right, or they may say it harshly, or they may say it whiny. The thing is, listen to the message. It’s the message that will set you free. “Smoking: Surgeon General’s warning: causes cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy.” It doesn’t “may” now, it is affecting your baby, they know that. Now, is there a protest on Washington to take that label off? No. Is the atheist offended by that and said, “You know, get that label off, you’re offending us, you’re taking away our right to kill ourself and get cancer”? Is the homosexuals rallying to get rid of that? No. But they don’t like God telling them what to do. They don’t like God telling them that He wants to rule over their life. Amen.

▶ 43:02 Now, if I was a smoker, that would be offensive to me. I mean, you know, millions of Americans don’t pay any attention to that warning, and it’s there every pack you get, it’s there every carton you get, it’s there. Church, should we keep on warning just because they don’t listen? Should we keep telling? Yes, and that’s what we got to get done this year. We got to get the word out, the word of righteousness, and let God raise up a standard and defeat the enemy in people’s life and give them a way of escape, that they can have a new life in Christ Jesus. Amen. That’s our job. That’s what we got to do. So today, are you in love with Jesus? Are you going to love Jesus, accepting and living by the standards of Bible morality? And are you going to admonish, instruct, and warn and notify and advise, the best of your ability? Don’t worry about how you say it. How many just say, “I’m going to give it a shot”? Would you raise your hand? Yeah. Your approach may be all messed up, but you’ll learn. You’ll learn by giving it a shot.
