In “Two Mothers of Revelation Part 1,” Pastor David G. Kincer preaches from Revelation on the two mothers it mentions. He says the woman of Revelation 12 is a spiritual mother, the church, whose children overcome Satan and are persecuted by him, then turns to the second woman of Revelation 17, whom he describes as people who use Christ’s name but do not follow him, serving God their own way. He teaches that Revelation is a spiritual illustration, not a list of natural kingdoms, and speaks about the beast, the seven mountains and spiritual fornication.

What are the two mothers mentioned in the book of Revelation?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: Pastor Kincer says there are two mothers in the book of Revelation, and he had already gone through one of them. He reads Revelation 12, where a woman gives birth, a dragon tries to devour her child, and she is kept safe in the wilderness. He first honors his own mother and says he is preaching this lesson for Mother’s Day.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 0:00 My mother passed away a few years ago, but I would just like to let you know that I had the best mother in the world. And my mother’s God today is mine, and I’m still living on my mother’s testimony of Jesus Christ. Her testimony is still being lived out by her son — and more than one of her sons now. It had a good testimony. I had a very good family, I had a very good mother. I was one of the fortunate ones in America to be raised in a family like I had. So, Mom, God bless you.

▶ 0:46 We’re going to continue in Revelation. I had to jump over a lesson to get to this one so I would have this for Mother’s Day, so that next week we’ll bounce back and pick up the chapter that we missed. But there are two mothers mentioned in the book of Revelation. We’ve already gone through one of them, and so we’re just going to remind you. Revelation 12:1: “I saw a great sign in heaven, a woman clothed with a son, being with child. She cried out in labor to give birth. Another sign appeared: a great fiery red dragon, that old serpent of old, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world, having seven heads and ten horns. His tail drew a third of the stars to the earth. The dragon stood before the woman to devour her child. She bore a male child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. Her child was caught up to God. Then the woman fled into the wilderness from Satan’s persecution, where she had a place prepared by God. The dragon persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child, but the woman was given two wings of an eagle that she might fly into the wilderness, where she is nourished from the presence of the serpent, the devil, Satan, the dragon.”

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 12:1-6 (NKJV)

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

Who is the woman of Revelation 12 and her children?

▶ Watch this part (2:18)

Short answer: He says that mother is obviously not a natural mother but a spiritual one: the church, God’s people, with Christ birthed in them. Her offspring keep God’s commandments and have the testimony of Jesus Christ, and they overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 2:18 In Revelation 12:17 he was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, her children, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 12:11: the mother and her offspring overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even unto death. Now, that mother is obviously not a natural mother. We’re talking about a spiritual mother there. We’re talking about the church. We’re talking about God’s people, and having Christ birthed in them.

Why does Satan persecute people who live for God?

▶ Watch this part (3:06)

Short answer: He says the children of this mother did not give into sin and were disliked and persecuted by Satan. If you do not live godly, Satan does not care about you, but if you choose to follow Christ and live right he will come after you, usually through people. He calls that a big plus, because it means you are doing something right.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 3:06 And this mother, just to sum it up, she bore children that ruled on earth. You see, they didn’t give into sin, they didn’t give in to the kingdom of darkness; they rule and reign. Now, her children was disliked and persecuted by Satan. The Bible says they that live godly in this world will suffer persecution. If you don’t live godly, of course Satan doesn’t care about you. But if you’re going to choose to follow Christ and live right, he’s going to come after you. All right, so if Satan dislikes you, that’s a big plus for you, amen. And if Satan is persecuting you through people — now, it isn’t Satan coming and persecuting you directly, but he uses people — then that’s a big plus for you. You’re doing something right when people don’t like the right you’re doing.

What is the wilderness experience in the Christian life?

▶ Watch this part (4:02)

Short answer: He says God has a place prepared for his people in the wilderness, that is, in difficult times, and he will take care of them there, so they can relax. He says those times of troubles and problems are important because it is God shaping us up, and he points to Song of Solomon, where we come out of the wilderness leaning on our Beloved.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 4:02 She was kept safe, and so was her children, and nourished in the wilderness, prepared by God from Satan’s persecution. A lot of people say they do not like the wilderness experience, going through difficult times. God has a place prepared. He’ll take care of you there, so relax. The Bible says in Song of Solomon that we’ll come out of the wilderness leaning on our Beloved. So relax. That wilderness is an important time. Those times of troubles, problems — it’s God shaping us up. Now, obviously this is the church, this is God’s people who are birthing Christ, and the nature of Christ and the character of Christ, in others.

Scripture (NKJV)

Song of Solomon 8:5 (NKJV)

Who is the bride of Christ in the Bible?

▶ Watch this part (4:49)

Short answer: He says the church is likened to a virgin woman, the bride of Christ, and when we accept Christ we become the bride. He ties this to Revelation, where the Lamb’s wife has made herself ready, and says this means the real believers, whom Satan does not like.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 4:49 And then we’ve got another woman. This one we’re going to call the real Christian, the real church, got it? See, Satan doesn’t like the real church, all right? Now, just to show you that it is talking about the church, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife. “And he showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.” 2 Corinthians 11:2: “I have betrothed you,” or engaged you, “to one husband, and I present you as a chaste virgin,” a pure virgin, “to Christ.” See, the church is likened into a woman, a virgin woman, the bride of Christ. And when we accept Christ we become the bride of Christ, and then there’s a big marriage supper up in heaven. Revelation tells us, “The marriage of the Lamb has come, and the wife has made herself ready.” See, that’s the believers, that’s the real believers. So I’m not just telling you that; that’s what the Bible explains the church is, got it?

What does fornication mean in Revelation 17?

▶ Watch this part (6:00)

Short answer: He says the second woman is shown in Revelation 17, and the fornication there is not permissive sexual relationships outside of marriage, which he says the Bible does call wrong. He says it is obviously not talking about natural fornication.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 6:00 Now let’s take a look at this second woman. I have an artist’s rendition of this thing up on the screen. Revelation 17 through chapter 19, verse 2, he says: “I will show you the judgment of the great [unclear] that sits upon many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants have drunk and got intoxicated from her fornication.” Now, you got to understand he’s not talking about fornication is permissive sexual relationships outside of the marriage, whether it’s homosexuality or incest or adultery or whatever. And of course the Bible tells us that’s wrong, and if we’re going to be good moms we’re not going to do that, right? But it’s obvious he’s not talking about the natural fornication.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 17:1-2 (NKJV)

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

— Revelation 17:1-2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:20

Is worshiping God your own way called spiritual adultery?

▶ Watch this part (7:06)

Short answer: He says that in the Old Testament and the New, the Bible speaks of worshiping other gods and worshiping God your own way as being an adulterer or fornicator, because you have not kept your relationship with the one God. He adds that the beast has the names of blasphemy, which he defines as speaking evil of God, of the Bible, of truth and of right, and says this woman is connected with the kingdom of darkness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 7:06 In the Old Testament and in the New, the Bible talks about worshiping other gods and doing things your own way, worshiping God your own way, as being an adulterer, a fornicator. See why? Because you haven’t kept your relationship with the one God. Got it? Yes. Now, it also says that the beast have on their head the names of the blasphemy. Blasphemy is to speak evil of God, evil of the Bible, evil of truth, evil of right. And so it’s obvious that this beast is connected with Satan. And if you remember Satan there that we just read you, that was opposing the woman, had seven heads and ten horns, like this one. So see, it’s connected. This woman is connected with the kingdom of darkness, you got it? See, Satan has no problem with this woman. Satan has no problem with this beast. Satan is involved here.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 17:3 (NKJV)

So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

Who is Mystery Babylon, the mother of harlots?

▶ Watch this part (8:25)

Short answer: He says she is the mystery Babylon, the mother of harlots and of abomination, and that a mother is a full-grown woman who can reproduce. In this spiritual illustration the offspring are people who keep doing idolatry, spiritual fornication and abominations, which he says the Bible uses for hateful things that God despises.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 8:25 So it goes on to say she is the “mystery, Babylon the great,” the great city of Babylon. She is “the mother of harlots, whores,” and she’s “the mother of abomination.” See, a mother is a full-grown woman that can reproduce, and this spiritual illustration of this woman is she is reproducing. What offspring? People that keep doing idolatry, you know, spiritual fornication, spiritual adultery, and abominations. Abominations — in the Bible is a word, a disgusting thing, a hateful thing. The Bible calls idolatry an abomination. It calls sexual immorality abomination. God looks down on that; that’s not a good thing. It isn’t some magical word that you’re worse than anybody else in the world. It’s just a word that means it’s a hateful thing. God hates it, God despises it, God looks down on that.

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 17:5 (NKJV)

— Revelation 17:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:25

Can a church have people who only want the name of Christ?

▶ Watch this part (9:33)

Short answer: He says that in the church world some people live for God and reproduce offspring who follow him, but in the same church others serve God their own way and lead people astray. He says this woman is drunk on the blood of the saints, and that many Christians in America just want to be called Christians with no relationship, accountability or responsibility.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 9:33 All right, but she reproduces this. Now, in the church world we can have people living for God that are reproducing offspring that follow God and keep his commandments and his testimony, isn’t that right? But also, in the same church, you can have people not living for Christ, serving God their own way, doing it the way they want, and leading people astray from what God said to do. And this is the illustration here. This woman is drunk on the blood of the saints and the martyrs of Jesus Christ. See, the people that just want Christ’s name, as it says in Isaiah — seven women will take hold of one man and say, “We just want your name; we don’t want any responsibility, accountability. We just want your name.” And that’s what a lot of Christians in America is: they just want to be called Christians. They just want the name of Christ, no relationship, no accountability, no responsibility. And this is what Revelation is illustrating to us. Are you starting to see that? Hallelujah!

Why does Revelation picture the false church as a woman instead of a warring beast?

▶ Watch this part (11:02)

Short answer: He says Satan and his beast were pictured as male, with authority, going to war with the saints, but the feminine form does not go to war. It stands for people who use the Bible and use Christ but do not follow it, and bring others down through deception rather than war. He points to Samson, brought down twice by women, as the picture of lust and desire overcoming common sense and commitment to truth.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 11:02 Now, you got to remember, Satan and his beast were referred to as males in our past lessons, as masculine. They had authority, and they went at war with the saints and the Christian believers. But the feminine form doesn’t go to war. See, the feminine form is illustrated as just a— it’s like a harlot woman, a loose woman who just uses her body to bring men down and people around her down, and use it for her own gain, amen. And that’s the way it is in the natural. But in the spiritual, it’s people who use the Bible and use Christ but don’t follow it, and they bring people down not through war but through deception, saying, “This is the right way, this is the real thing.” And they’ll get intimate with you, and they’ll be your friend and a close acquaintance and all the rest. They’re not at war with you, they’re not going to persecute you; they’re going to use their opinions, what they believe is true, to deceive you to follow something that is not true.

▶ 12:27 And that’s why it’s illustrated as a female. You see, Samson — what brought Samson down twice? Was it the Philistine army? No. Did he lose to some Philistine hero in battle? No. What brought him down twice? Two women. He was the strongest man that ever existed, and yet a woman, through sexual intimacy, brought him down, caused him to break God’s laws, caused him to have his eyes put out, and caused him to go into captivity. You see, the masculine is the persecution and the warfare, but the feminine illustration is our lust, our desires overcoming our common sense and our commitment to truth, and doing things we shouldn’t do. Are you there? You say, “I’ve never heard Revelation like this before.” Well, stick around. Stick around, it gets better.

What is the mystery of the woman and the beast in Revelation 17?

▶ Watch this part (13:45)

Short answer: He says the angel tells John the mystery of the woman and the beast, and the first part is that the beast was, is not, and yet is now. He explains this beast as a nation, government, ruler or kingdom that existed, died and existed again, rising from the bottomless pit, which is Satan’s domain, so it is directly connected to Satan.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 13:45 You see — anyway, let’s continue here. Then the angel comes to him and says, “Hey, I’m going to tell you the mystery of the woman and the beast.” I’m going to tell you this secret, this mystery, this hidden thing. I’m going to tell you both what the beast means and the woman. All these artists draw these beasts that look like amphibious dinosaurs all the time. Now, if I would have drawn this thing it would have been entirely different. We don’t know exactly what this beast look like, but I tell you it didn’t look like that. But it’s a good illustration, all right? Now, you see the ten horns up here on one of the heads, right at the top in the middle? Okay, remember that. Then a couple of these have horns — that’s too many horns. It only had ten horns and we got fourteen up there. But anyway, it’s still a great illustration. Whoever did it was very clever.

▶ 14:55 Now, here’s the mystery of the woman. Mystery number one: the beast was, and is not, and yet is now. I know that just cleared everything up for you, didn’t it? Don’t you like how the Bible says, “Hey, we’re going to explain to you what we’re talking about,” and then they just confuse us more? Okay. In other words, this beast, which is referred to in the Bible as a nation, as a government, as a ruler, as a kingdom, was, and then it died, and then it existed again. Okay? And remember, the first beast was the same way — the first beast that came out of the waters that we talked about, same thing. This beast shall ascend out of the bottomless pit. Now, the first beast came out of the waters; this one came out of the bottomless pit. Bottomless pit is Satan’s domain. So this beast is directly connected to who? Satan himself, yes. All right, the Bible tells us Satan the destroyer is king of the bottomless pit.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 17:8 (NKJV)

The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

— Revelation 17:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:10 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Is the great city in Revelation 11 the literal Jerusalem?

▶ Watch this part (16:02)

Short answer: He says Revelation 11:7 shows the beast from the bottomless pit making war on the two witnesses, whose bodies lie in the street of the great city, which is called spiritually Sodom and Egypt and is the city where the Lord was crucified. He stresses the word “spiritually” and says too many people interpret Revelation as natural kingdoms and rulers when it is a spiritual illustration.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 16:02 Okay, Revelation 11:7 says the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them. This is in chapter 11, the two witnesses. It’s the beast making war with the witnesses, the two prophets. Their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, you see, which spiritually is called what? Sodom and Egypt. Have you ever read in the Bible the word Rahab? That is a Bible shadow of Egypt relating to God’s people. When God’s people are bad, God referred to them as Rahab, Egypt, bad. Okay? When God’s people were bad, the prophets would relate to them as Sodom, you see? Okay, and then it plainly tells us, thank God, who this city is: “where the Lord was—“ what? “—crucified.” Now, what city is that? Jerusalem. Say it: Jerusalem. Okay, but the key word is this word right here. What’s the word? Spiritually. See, he’s talking to us about spiritual things, not natural things.

▶ 17:24 And too many people want to take Revelation and try to interpret it as something natural, trying to raise up kingdoms here and kingdoms there and rulers here and rulers there. And it’s what? A spiritual illustration. Can I hear an amen? Now, so it is very doubtful they’re really going to be lying on the street of Jerusalem like all these theorists say. Are you out there? Because he’s talking about what Jerusalem — the natural or the spiritual? The spiritual.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Revelation 11:7-8 (NKJV)

When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

— Revelation 11:7-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:02

What are the seven heads, seven mountains and seven kings of Revelation 17?

▶ Watch this part (18:05)

Short answer: He says the beast has seven heads, which are seven mountains and seven kings, and that five had already fallen when John received the revelation. He says the beast was active before John got the revelation and is not just something that will be activated at the end time. He says the bottom line is that this is happening in every generation.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 18:05 Okay, let’s continue. The beast has seven heads, which are seven mountains and seven kings. Five are fallen — okay, they’ve come and gone. Now, at the time John got this revelation, five of these heads have already passed. One is, and one more is to come, and after that the eighth beast himself is going to be the last king. Now, I know that’s clear as a bell now, isn’t it? I mean, aren’t you glad the angel told him that? But it’s very important you got to understand then that this beast has been active before John got the revelation. It isn’t some beast that’s just going to be activated up here at the end time. Are you there? But this is what the theorists will tell you, it’s something in the future. But no, most of it has already happened before John got the revelation, and then it was happening while he had it, and the bottom line is this is happening in every generation. That’s the bottom line. Amen.

Are the seven mountains of Revelation the seven hills of Rome?

▶ Watch this part (19:37)

Short answer: He says the mountains in Psalm 125:2 are the mountains round about Jerusalem, not Rome. He says some fundamentalists attack the Catholic Church by saying it is founded on seven hills in Rome, and that others make similar claims against Protestants, which he calls nonsense that comes from looking at things in the natural when the text is talking about the spiritual.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 19:37 All right, Psalms 125:2: “The mountains are round about Jerusalem, as the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people.” Are you there? So where’s— where’s these mountains round about Jerusalem? Not Rome. You see, your fundamentalists attack the Catholic Church by saying the Catholic church is founded on seven hills in Rome, and so they are the beast, they’re the big bad people. If you just read your Bible — how many of you didn’t know that? Only a few of you didn’t know. How many did know that? Yeah, this is a popular teaching out there now. If you go to the Catholic group, they’re telling you that the Protestants are this. That’s a fact, yeah. Lu— Martin Luther was the Antichrist, you know, mark 666. They found out how to calculate his name to 666. This nonsense has been going on because we look at things in the natural, when it plainly is talking about what? The spiritual. And somehow they leave that word out of there.

What are the mountains of Jerusalem, and what is spiritual fornication?

▶ Watch this part (21:00)

Short answer: He says Jerusalem is founded around mountains and the Bible names six of them, and that God’s foundation is in the holy mountains. He says that when Jehoram made high places, the people committed fornication by worshiping God the way they wanted, not the way God said. He says the world’s fornication is spiritual, not sexual: serving God the way God said not to and living a lifestyle God said not to live.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 21:00 And Jerusalem is founded around mountains. Are you aware of that? The Bible names six of them, plainly named six of them. Now, his foundation is in the— what? —holy mountains. Jesus Christ, God’s foundation is in the holy mountains. 2 Chronicles 21:22 [Editor’s note: the passage he reads is 2 Chronicles 21:11.]: Jehoram, the king of Judah, made high places in the mountains of Jerusalem and caused the people to commit— what’s the word? Fornication. They weren’t out there having sex; they were out there worshiping God the way they wanted to worship him, not the way God said. Are you with me? And these, the world, is committing fornication with this. It is not a sexual fornication; it is a spiritual fornication. They are serving God the way God said not to serve him, and they’re living a lifestyle that God said not to live.
