Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Revelation 1: Jesus is coming and every eye will see Him. John, our companion in tribulation, kingdom and patience, shows a pattern to touch Jesus—be in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, hear His voice, turn toward Him—and He lays His hand on us and says do not be afraid.
How does the service open?
Short answer: Mr. Jim Thompson reads Scripture on exhorting one another as the day approaches.
▶ 0:00 I would like to welcome you this morning we’re going to have Mr. Jim Thompson come and share this scripture reading this morning and Mr. Thompson would you come out. I’ll be reading out of Hebrews 10. Beginning with verse 21. It says that having a high priest over the house of God which we know is Jesus. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith heaven our hearts sprinkle from an evil guilty conscience and our bodies washed with the pure water which is the word therefore let us hold fast that profession of our faith without wavering for he is faithful at promise and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works not forsaken the assailment of ourselves together as a manner of some is.
▶ 0:55 But exhorting one another and so much more as you see the day approaching. Excellent hallelujah. Let’s stand we’re going to lift up our God and some worship just for a moment I’m just going to lift up God in praise right now as we begin worship. And if you could give me a one chord. Lord we thank you God we come before you we come before your house Lord Jesus. Wonderful is your name glory assemble together God. Jesus Jesus we praise. How wonderful is our God you are good Lord you are great.

What does Revelation 1 promise?
Short answer: Following last week’s grace, peace, kings and priests: He is coming with clouds and every eye will see Him.
▶ 27:17 You may find your seats this morning look at Revelations chapter one. Last week we talked about grace. Peace. Kings and priests that’s right amen we learned how we can be under the influence of the grace of God for we should be not of the influence of the world or you know natural things like drugs and alcohol but under the influence of Christ that God has given us we are to be kings and priests unto God and this week we’re going to continue on. We want to look at first that he is coming and be reminded that he is coming we also want to be reminded John reminds us that we are companions in the kingdom and in patience and also tribulation.
▶ 28:13 And at the end John gives us a pattern or a pattern to touch Jesus Christ very simple pattern so look we’re going to at those things this morning Revelations chapter 1 verse 7 John writes and says behold he is coming with clouds and every eye will see him even they who pierced him so. We want to first recognize that every eye is going to see him we’re all going to be here the sinner the saint the uh those who were dead are going to be raised out of the grave every every eye is going to see him now I’m not sure about these clouds. Could be uh Joel chapter 2 but I’m not I’m not sure all I know is when I drive down the road and there’s fog I can’t see much.
▶ 29:08 Okay so him coming with clouds you know you already you know you can’t I can’t see pasties ortega mountains I can’t see past uh Big Bear Mountain over there and the world is what the earth is round how is every eye gonna see him how are we all going to see Jesus at the same time right. You don’t have to worry how Jesus is going to do it but he’s going to do it every eye is going to see him if Jesus has to unwrap the whole earth and make it inside out so we all can see him he’s going to do it that way or he’ll just appear to us all the same who knows how he’s going to do it but he’s going to do it don’t worry Jesus. Can do it amen. You can’t get so logical that we logic God right out of his word. Remember he’s supernatural.
▶ 30:03 And we also want to recognize here that everyone is here that’s very important every eye will see him the center of the saint those that are alive those who were dead every eye is going to see him there’s not going to be anybody gone. Amen we’re all going to be here. Revelations chapter 1 verse 7 all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. Why why are they mourning. And this these are the reactions in Revelations chapter 6 15 it gives us the answer the kings of the earth the great men the rich men the commanders the mighty men every slave every free man the kings of the earth uh you got mr mr g over in china you’ve got mr putin in russia you’ve got president biden here in America.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 1:7 (NKJV)
Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
— Revelation 1:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:13What will the kings of the earth do?
Short answer: Try to hide and still not repent of their works—works are important.
▶ 31:02 Or whoever the president is at those days right whoever the leaders are the kings of the earth the rulers. The great men rich people oh they got so much money they just have so much influence. Elon musk richest man oh he’s the smartest guy in the world him the commanders of the united states military the pentagon the mighty men those in the military. Every slave every free man. Hid themselves in the caves and the rocks in the mountains and said mountains and rocks fall on us hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne. Why because the great day of wrath has come and who is able to stand and so we see here that people are reacting to Christ’s coming and those who don’t know God or have rejected Christ are running from him and their solution isn’t to surrender and repent or uh you know get on their knees and exalt him their solution is to go find a rock somewhere.
▶ 32:15 Some natural thing they get in their head like how can I hide from I gotta find a way I know a cave over in that one state I can run I can drive my car over there I can hide no. You’re not going to be able to hide from this. Mountains and rocks fall on us maybe it’s talking about the nations the rules of nations you don’t know but what you do know is here that they’re not surrendering to Christ they’re not repenting. And they’re afraid because Jesus has come to judge the earth. In Revelations chapter 16 11 when God is pouring out the bowls of judgment it says they blaspheme the God of heaven because of their pains and their source and did not repent of their deeds very important here so first of all they’re blaming God for their sin secondly they will not repent right they will not turn.
▶ 33:19 And they won’t repent of their what their deeds or their works so works are important. And we I bring this up as many times as I can because it’s all over the scriptures we gotta see and understand that there is you know this deeds and this work stuff you can’t be flagrantly sinning against God and expect him to just bring you into heaven that’s not true. And we’re foolish to think that way amen if we’re going to have the deeds of the nicolaitans and as the Revelation says and and do sinful things and just say oh Jesus saving that’s not how it works we’ve got to repent. And even during this time while the judgment is being poured out.
▶ 34:13 Uh God. Would allow them to repent and turn. And so we want to understand here that you know when Jesus comes or God moves or something great is happening don’t just jump up and down and say Jesus is coming oh I’m so happy no go and find these lost people those who have not repented go find them and try to reach them for the kingdom of God. You let them have a chance to repent bring God’s word to them amen they’ve got they they still have a chance and even now in our day we can’t give up on people because there’s flagrant sin in our country we can’t give up on our world our country or our state we’ve got to do our best to reach them with the truth.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 6:15-16 (NKJV)
And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
— Revelation 6:15-16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:02What does John share with us?
Short answer: He is our brother and companion in tribulation, the kingdom and patience.
▶ 35:09 Revelations going on Revelation 1:9 this scripture here where John is writing to us and he says that he’s our brother. And our companion in what tribulation. The kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ. Let’s get the bad one out of the way. John 16:33 in the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world John is a companion in tribulation as you know he’s receiving this word on the island of Patmos. And he was exiled there uh because he’s preaching the world and this is just before he was boiled in oil and he came out alive so is John facing tribulation yes is he our companion and tribulation did Jesus face tribulation is he our companion tribulation yes.
▶ 36:16 But Jesus came out of it he rose from the grave amen John. You know different than James but John came out of it James is in heaven you know we’ll come out of it that’s the hope that the tribulations we face here on earth we can either God will bring us through him on earth or we will be with him and he will honor the tribulation we went through amen. So we have to you can expect problems as a Christian okay don’t be afraid of problems don’t be afraid of tribulation know that it’s coming and that God will equip you and empower you to be able to handle it that’s what God that’s what it’s saying here I have overcome the world tribulation is going to come but be a good cheer I have overcome the world isn’t that a great message.
▶ 37:19 Romans 5:3 we glory and tribulations okay where is mr positive where’s the where’s the positive speaker at what is it called now I’m trying to remember what they call it positive thinking they call it something else too. I can’t remember what they you know it’s like okay get this guy off the stage stop telling us to be glory in tribulations you have never gone through anything no Romans chapter 5 verse 3 this is the scriptures we also glory and tribulations knowing that tribulation produces perseverance now how many of you gloried in your tribulation last time you went through it how many are glory in your tribulation now. My goodness. It’s not easy but remember we can always come to come to Christ remember David in the scriptures he says I will bless the Lord at all times in tribulation and non-tribulation in the kingdom of God every in every situation amen and it’s easier said than done but it can be done and we all fail sometimes right but you can pick yourself back up you can get through the tribulation you can overcome if you’re failing in your tribulation now you can change your mind.
▶ 38:48 Say God give me a new mind so I can take on this tribulation amen amen. It produces what perseverance. Patience. It produces character. And hope. When we come through tribulation there is hope you know I can do this God really is with me God is going to take care of me I’m going to make it in the long haul let’s you know don’t give up at the first sign of tribulation amen let God bring you through some and then you’re encouraged to go to the next one oh man God how many do you have on your list can you stop for a minute. Romans 8:35 who shall separate us from the love of Christ shall tribulation or distress persecution famine nakedness peril or sword.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 1:9 (NKJV)
I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
— Revelation 1:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:09Romans 5:3-4 (NKJV)
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
— Romans 5:3-4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 37:19Does tribulation separate us from Christ?
Short answer: No—and having come through, we comfort others.
▶ 39:47 You know just because we’re going through tribulation doesn’t mean we’re separated from the love of Christ and see that’s what John is uh experiencing here he’s on the island of Patmos he’s exiled and still God is meeting with him amen. And we can still meet with God we can still touch God we can still have God in our tribulation and that makes all the difference when he’s with you and you got you know problems coming you got court coming up you got this happening you’re getting sued you know when he’s with you you can do it amen. Second Corinthians 1:4 God who comforts us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort those who are in trouble so God brings tribulation so we can help the next person and comfort the next person amen.
▶ 40:45 Oh you’re going through some tribulation oh well too bad. No we get to comfort them yeah I’ve been there we you can do it you can get through it you can make it. Amen. All right get the tribulation out of the way. Romans 14:17 the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit so John here is a companion Christ is our companion in righteousness John is doing righteousness remember the scriptures say he who practices righteousness is righteous I read this morning in Psalms chapter 4 bringing sacrifices of righteousness you know the scriptures say that our righteousness is like what filthy rags but see when we practice righteousness Jesus sees us as righteous.
Scripture in this part
Romans 8:35 (NKJV)
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
— Romans 8:35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:47What is the kingdom?
Short answer: Not in word but in power; grace lets us serve God acceptably with reverence.
▶ 41:47 A doctor doesn’t know everything but he’s a he’s practicing medicine he a lawyer is practicing a law and we call them doctors we call them lawyers even though they don’t know everything and you may not know everything you may not have it down but practice righteousness. And we bring our sacrifices of righteousness they may be filthy rags yes comparison to Christ but still we bring them to God amen. John companion and peace and in joy he’s able to smile on his island of Patmos can you believe that he’s able to smile after he came out of the oil he’s able to have joy in his heart.
▶ 42:43 That’s powerful that’s good gosh don’t you want that. I need that 1 Corinthians 4:20 for the kingdom of God is not in word but in power so John also here has the power of Christ so he didn’t have power enough to get on the island did he. That’s not what it’s all about. He had the power of the word of God he had the power you know somehow he wrote that book and we have it today. So by the power of God we have that book today and it came from that island so God made it work that’s powerful. Hebrews 12:28. Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom.
▶ 43:37 Which cannot be shaken let us have grace here’s grace again grace by which here we go he’s going to explain by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear so when you read that you could you could read it two ways you can read it and say oh that’s the blood of Jesus the blood of Jesus is grace well you’ve got to remember the blood of Jesus also enables you right and we also learn that grace is being under the influence of God grace is that new heart that new mind that causes you to walk in his ways when you read grace that way and you say oh by which we may serve God oh the thing that causes me to walk in his ways that makes a lot of sense. And with reverence and godly fear that grace that enables me under his influence to walk in his ways.
▶ 44:33 If you don’t have that kind of grace. I challenge or I would encourage you pray that that kind of grace his influence would come on you his influence would come on your heart his influence would come in your heart your mind your spirit and cause you to walk in his ways that’s the great grace that we get uh. In that kingdom in the kingdom of God. Impatience. He’s a companion in patience. John is on an island he has to be patient. Noah when he built the ark he built it for over a hundred years and he had to be what patient. I gotta build something for a hundred years okay what did we sign up for huh.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 4:20 (NKJV)
For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
— 1 Corinthians 4:20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:43Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV)
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
— Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 43:37Why be patient?
Short answer: Like the farmer and Noah, establish your heart—the coming of the Lord is at hand.
▶ 45:29 Be patient. Until the coming of the Lord Noah also he was a preacher of righteousness while he’s building the ark he’s also preaching. Amen. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth waiting patiently for it until he receives the early and the latter rain one of the movements that came that movement that came I think they called it the latter rain movement right yes and uh we want more of that latter rain amen. We just had a bunch of storms recently in our you know in lake elsinore like wow where’d that rain come from we want that in the church world amen spiritually want more of that latter rain I thought it was all gone I mean every time they talk about the climate the climate’s horrible it’s changing you’re gonna die hey there’s rain.
▶ 46:29 Be patient establish your hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand do we have a strong heart are we easily changed. By the next thing that comes maybe we get offended you know whatever it is or our hearts established. Are they set in the ground like a strong tree not easily moved amen. Are we patient. Noah when he built the ark he had to be patient he preached patiently and he had hopes that people would respond and come on the ark with him and he had seven people come with him and the number doesn’t matter but he had a place for them to come and he was preaching the truth and God honored that amen.
▶ 47:27 Luke chapter 8 verse 15. The ones that fell on the good ground are those who having heard the word in a noble with a noble and good heart keep it and bear fruit with patience. This is the parable of the sower it’s simple in any Christian who receives God’s word God’s word you got to receive it and bear fruit with patience we’ve got to be patient amen you may not be where you want to be today in your christianity but be patient keep moving forward keep letting his word come into you you know you have to have all of those ingredients. A plant needs what water. It needs the soil food from the soil it needs the light that gives it energy amen photosynthesis. And you got to have those things you need the word of God you need the spirit of God in the presence of God and it is your responsibility.
▶ 48:25 To when you come into church to praise God if you’re going to hide yourself and be like I’m not going to praise God I’m just going to sit over here in the closet no you got to get over there in the light lift up your hands open your mouth let the king of glory let that window open let that light come shine on you give me energy and strength. Amen let the king of glory come in all that water come in. Simple. So John is our companion Jesus Christ is our companion in tribulation. In the kingdom of God and in patience amen. Amen and then John in talking to Jesus Christ.
Scripture in this part
James 5:7-8 (NKJV)
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
— James 5:7-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:29Luke 8:15 (NKJV)
But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
— Luke 8:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 47:27What is the pattern to touch Jesus?
Short answer: Be in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, hear His voice, and turn toward Him.
▶ 49:16 Or experiencing this vision. He gives us an example a pattern on how to touch Jesus Christ in Revelations chapter 1 verse 10 it says I was in the spirit on the lord’s day. So here was John. And he didn’t have a church to go to he was by himself he was in one member church and the scriptures say where two or three are gathered well I mean my goodness if I don’t have another person I can’t do it well he just said I gotta break this rule amen and so he gets in the spirit he has his one-member church he starts praying he starts seeking God he starts praising the Lord he’s he’s exalting Jesus and then.
▶ 50:10 He hears a voice but before that also we gotta be reminded what are we doing on the lord’s day what are you doing on the lord’s day are you assembling you know if if you’re not exiled on an island of Patmos go find a church and assemble before God so here’s the first part of the pattern get assemble with God’s church on the lord’s day amen. He understood the importance of spending time with God. Second number two the same scripture he said I heard behind me a loud voice. In other places of Revelations it says he who has an ear let him hear. What the spirit says to the churches how many know when you come to church you can be hearing a lot of things right now you could be thinking about a race you could be thinking about a sports you could be thinking about you know where you’re going your next plans oh man I’m gonna go see that person I’m gonna go spend time with my this and that are you here.
▶ 51:17 To hear to listen and to hear what God has to say to you. Amen. I said the magic words race. And so we have to hear uh. The scriptures say don’t just be a hero the word but a doer but you got to be hearer too and we’ve got to be our ears open to the word of God. Revelations 1:12 moving on he says then I turned to see the voice so whether wherever you’re at in your life if you’re living in if you’re doing uh hell since that take you to hell you’ve got to turn from that you know if you are doing if you’re doing sins of uh you know hurting your neighbor maybe not health sins you know we gotta turn that we we have to improve remember John he later writes the seven churches and each time he writes them he says you’ve got to repent or Jesus is saying repent he’s telling his church to repent.
▶ 52:28 So and every one of those I guarantee you today we got some things we’ve got to improve. Amen so like John here he turned from where he was headed or what he was doing to Jesus Christ God I pray right now God I need I need to change I need some change in my life I need to turn from those those wrong you know I got I got a lot I got a lot of problems. Revelations 1:17. When I saw him I fell at his feet as a dead person how do we respond to Jesus Christ. Yeah earlier we we saw the reaction people were running from God trying to find a place to hide but here John he says I saw him and I fell at his feet how do we respond to Christ when Christ comes do we give him honor do we humble ourselves or do we say what’s happening oh my gosh get away from me please get space.
▶ 53:38 That’s how we could handle it you know sometimes I’ll give Aaron a hug she’s just like stop dad stop. But how are we responding to God. A lot of young people have seen reject God I’ve seen him come and they just reject him and we can reject God you can reject God if you want but he when he comes you can humble yourself receive him let him speak to you let him change on the inside. Amen that’s. We forgot to respond right to Christ Revelations 1:17 then he laid his right hand on me Jesus the son of God the king of the whole world put his hand on John and touched him.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 1:10-12 (NKJV)
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.” Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
— Revelation 1:10-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 49:16What happens when He touches us?
Short answer: He lays His right hand on us and says do not be afraid—He holds the keys of Hades and death.
▶ 54:33 It’s very important how many of you guys want God to put his hand on you and touch you I want that. And John is giving us a pattern here simple pattern. And then Jesus said he speaks and says do not be afraid. How many know we can get afraid of what Jesus wants from us we can get afraid of of what he’s going to require of us we have to remember. He’s not going to test us beyond what we’re able to handle he knows our limits don’t be afraid of Christ don’t be afraid of God humble yourself let him in don’t be afraid to hear what he has to say to you don’t be afraid of his touch Revelations chapter 1 as the worship.
▶ 55:28 As the song leader comes Revelation 1:18 and I have the keys of hades end of death and so he reminds us Christ reminds us that he has the keys of death and the keys unlock. Amen. And even though the kingdom of darkness may try to lock you in God Jesus Christ can unlock that door he has the keys he has the ability to bring you out and so this morning we want to take some time. To touch our God to come before him let him touch us be transformed by him we were reminded this morning that he is coming what will our response be will we react like the world and try to hide from him.
▶ 56:21 Will we react like the world when he comes and touches us and say get away from me give me space. It’s important to remind in the second coming you know your location is not going to matter all little details of your your natural life oh where am I going to be am I going to be home I’m going to have my kids with me that’s not going to matter. You know we fight about the second coming and how he’s going to do it and how that’s going to happen what’s the most important thing is that you have repented that you are following home wholeheartedly because wherever you are whatever happens he’s going to pull you right to himself he’s going to draw you right in. Okay we don’t need to be worried. About how he’s going to do something when he does it if you are in right standing with God and you have not offended and and just rejected him he’s going to bring you right in amen.
▶ 57:27 That’s the very important thing to remember. We are companions with Christ and his church. We can overcome tribulation. We can be patient and have the kingdom of God amen. We learned this morning that tribulation comes but we can overcome. We can have the kingdom of God the kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. And we can have patience and leia at the end John showed us that we can touch Jesus Christ how many know we need to touch Jesus and no matter who you are. No matter what place you are in there are many people in the Bible that didn’t know Jesus for nothing they may they didn’t have experience with Christ at all the lepers they they you know they were they were off in another area they came before Jesus and Jesus healed me and Jesus came and healed them.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 1:17-18 (NKJV)
And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Short answer: The woman with the issue of blood, “He touched me,” a salvation prayer, and prayer for one another.
▶ 58:30 The woman with the issue of blood she had just heard of Christ that day. But because she humbled herself and went to where he was she got healed by Christ by just touching his garment. And so and so important you don’t have to be some perfect Christian or some great person to be touched by God. You can be touched by Jesus Christ and changed so we’re gonna sing this song he touched me like to invite you to stand with me we’re going to invite Jesus right now I want to follow that pattern we’re here assembled together. And we’re gonna sing this unto him inviting him to touch us this morning.
