The Light - May 26, 2024: full transcript and answers

▶ 0:10 You’ll see on the screen here some pictures uh all of these places here there’s at the top left you have Yosemite uh the right top right is the northern lights or maybe the southern lights you don’t know uh the bottom left is some beautiful waterfall on the coast and then you have the Grand Canyon on the bottom right all these places can be seen because of light light reflects off of the water the clouds and because of light they can be seen and it brings beauty it brings warmth and life you see the trees there they grow because of what light the light brings life. Amen now here’s some pictures of uh places that the same places without any light on a really dark night and there it is it’s a black screen you can’t see anything and uh if it gets too much of no light there’s going to be uh everything’s going to be dead.

▶ 1:19 Amen our phones are banking transactions the medical field internet tv and more they’re all connected uh with light and transmissions are sent when you got on your phone this morning you may have sent out a text message looks up the video looked up a video looked your email that light was transferring that data as you picked up your phone through fiber optics did you know. That fiber optics send light I don’t want to get into it it’s all technical the arctic turn is known for having the longest migration of any bird it travels from its breeding ground in the arctic and it goes all the way to the antarctic from one north pole to the south pole ensuring it experiences continuous daylight during the summer the polar summer months cuz on the poles uh there’s six months of light and six months of no light okay so on the north pole there six months of the sun is like spinning like in a circle and it never goes down like it does here and in the south pole same thing so the bird he flies from one pole to the other uh because he can’t handle all night you know blizzard all night forever for months you know I don’t know who could so the the arctic turn he travels and so from hatching

▶ 2:50 to migration the migratory flight it takes 65 days and you want to stop at some of these things and realize that God has made a very ordered world uh without if if these birds these chicks did not uh hatch and grow in time they’d be left in the arctic for the winter months or the uh the darkness months and so they live in the light to have more food available to them to have higher survival rates for chicks and less predators and warmth and I’m bringing all this up because the light is very important. Amen in nature we see the importance of light darkness is the absence of light it is the default and so we want to recognize that unless you bring light into your life it’s going to be what.

▶ 3:53 Dark and so God has some questions for us do we want to live in the light are we willing to to walk in the light are we willing to be a light and that’s what we want to talk about this morning and so now you can go to your sheet and we’re going to find the scriptures that we’re going to go. Through and John 3: 19 Jesus in red letters and that’s why it’s red because Jesus said it this is the condemnation light has come into the world and who is that light Jesus Christ is that light and he’s come into the world. And men loved darkness rather than light they loved the kingdom of darkness they loved to be around darkness and do what you do in the darkness you know you do things in the darkness that you don’t want people to see uh right kind of embarrassing.

But Jesus is saying I’ve come into the world and people would rather have stayed in darkness then come to the light because their deeds are evil people love evil they like doing evil more than they like Jesus and so with that few just simple sentences right there we understand how imperative it is for us to respond to Jesus Christ in a way that where we change repent from dark evil deeds and go away from that and come to Christ for everyone practicing evil hates the light Jesus I hate you. Practicing that word means you make it a habit so are we making evil a habit in our life and when we do that we’re saying to Jesus I don’t want you I don’t want your effects I don’t want your light shining on me I don’t want your life giving me strength I don’t want your life I don’t want any of that and that’s what we’re doing when we’re practicing and making evil sin our habit.

▶ 5:58 For everyone practice evil hates the light and does not come to the light who’s the light again Jesus and that’s what those songs about were this morning you’re my what you’re my Lord I’m coming to. You see the people back then and people today we don’t come to Christ lest his deeds be exposed so it’s important how you’re living your life and you see it here in this simple scripture Jesus is going he’s walking through lest his deeds lest his or her deeds be exposed because that’s what light does right uh pretty soon I had my daughter last night she was pointing at the wall and saying. Spider and she wasn’t going to see that spider without what light see light exposes some things I’m like well go get it she’s like.

Done but he that does the truth comes to the light that his deeds may be clearly seen that they have been done in God are you willing to let God shine the light on you so that you can clearly see what needs to change very important Romans 13:12 through 14 therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and I’m just bringing these scriptures up because they they line up with each other okay darkness and light we want to cast off get rid of put it off of us the works of darkness not uh living in revelry and drunkenness not in lewdness and lust you know we have to we have to bring our lusts and our our desires under our authority and dominion it can’t be ruling over you okay God has given you natural desires but you have to keep those boundaries when it comes to sexual immorality he’s given you that desire it’s natural but you have to keep it in its boundary and that boundary is marriage not in strife and envy and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts so we have to be careful it says make no provision for the flesh don’t put yourself in these places and in these situations where you’re providing your flesh a playground

▶ 8:29 to sin that’s the wisdom don’t provide for your flesh to sin don’t put yourself in that place but put on the Lord Jesus Christ so this is again basically saying the same thing before Jesus is talking about letting the light of Jesus into your life letting it shine here it’s talking about hey cast off your works of darkness and put on. ▶ 10:29 equals you were darkness and now you are light very important that we understand that we have and uh uh we carry about with us either darkness or light walk as children of the light for the spirit the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness righteousness and truth finding out what is acceptable to the Lord and this uh this simple statement right here verse 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord I mean do you understand the implication of that do we sit and say what does God want me to do in my life do you go and find out search out try to understand what God what how to please your God what is acceptable to him what behaviors what what comes out of my mouth that is acceptable to to God amen have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them so we want to I’m just I’m just showing you God is really making a division here between darkness and between light and it’s important for us to respond to his truth and his message Luke 4:8 the spirit of the Lord is upon me he has anointed me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind how does he recover what

▶ 12:00 is that recovery of sight it’s bringing that light to the eyes again so you can what so you can see very important we want to be able to see you want to be able to see in your life what is truth and what is evil what is right and what is wrong what is helpful for your future what’s helpful for your family your children everything else you need s good sight. And Christ can bring that light to your eyes 1 Peter 2:9 you are a chosen generation a royal priesthood a holy nation his own special people that you may proclaim the praises of him who has called you out of darkness so again Christ is calling us away from darkness and himself and that’s all repentance is are we willing to turn our backs on the kingdom of darkness the the the works of darkness and come over to his kingdom the kingdom of light the kingdom of God repent for the kingdom of heaven is at what hand it’s available it’s near you the scriptures say the kingdom of God is within you the kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit and you can have these.

▶ 13:21 Things we have a choice Matthew chapter 4:18 Jesus in red letters he says come and and follow me are we following the Lord Jesus Christ who are we following are we following ourselves are we following our own desires are we following someone else are we following another religion another belief system Jesus Christ as we experience this morning he came this morning his presence was here he’s real I don’t need to get in a debate with somebody saying oh can prove to me God is I just met him this.

▶ 14:03 Morning I don’t need all this proof I’ve got the proof he’s real he’s powerful now you have to decide are you going to come and follow him and live and and and put aside your old life John 8:12 Jesus spoke to them again saying I am the light of the world and he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life there’s so much he’s saying right here so first of all he’s identifying and saying who I am the light and he who follows me shall not walk in darkness God is going to enable you to be able to see through his light you’re going to be able to see in your life you’re going to be able to see truth you’re going to be able to see how to act in your relationship as a a mother a father as a spouse as a son or daughter very important as a person on the job you’re going to be an honest worker as a person who goes and shops in the store you know you got to have be that wasn’t a problem before but now it’s a problem you see God wants you to have that light in.

▶ 15:18 You he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life and you see that he makes that uh. He makes that connection the light of life not only does light enable you to see it gives what life the plants that grow outside everywhere you look are getting life from what the light very important Christ gives us life he is so much he is so important I encourage you if you haven’t met Jesus for real if you haven’t experienced Christ for real it’s time to set some things aside make that a priority in your life get on your knees open up his word let it come into you go to a church where the presence of God is there experience him let his life flow into you flow into your mind your heart your spirit.

▶ 16:19 Amen Psalms 92:12 the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree so we understand here that we want to separate ourselves from the darkness amen and we you know you don’t have to think oh I wonder if this is a bad thing or do not should I do. This you I really I don’t know I don’t know you know sometimes it’s hard to know but a lot of the times it’s a big duh. Right let’s not do that so now we want to know what is going to help us keep following that light how can we walk in the light very important so number one in this all these scriptures is Christ you’ve got to come in contact and you have to make a connection with the real true God when you walk into the church when you go to your house are you taking time for your God.

▶ 17:20 He says come he says come many times not just on Sunday at home when you go home you can come to. Christ Psalms 92:12 the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree do you want to be a dead tree do you want to be walking around oh look that tree’s dead I need to cut it down you want to be a tree like that no I don’t want to be a tree like that so it’s identifying saying the righteous somewhere in your life you got to decide am I going to do what’s right am I going to stop you know hurting people hurting myself and do what’s right and it says those who are planted in the house of the Lord in God’s house believe it or not this room right here this group of people this little space here at the outlets we are the house of the Lord.

▶ 18:13 Amen and it is important to be planted be faithful take time at of your schedule make it important make it a priority it’s a powerful thing and God says when you do that when you plant yourself when you make make time for him it’s so powerful and important it’s a way that you can walk in the light amen and God is making a promise here that when you are planted in the house of the Lord you can flourish in the courts of your God so if you’re flourishing here you’re going to be flourishing where in heaven amen and you don’t have to live under this doubt of am I going to heaven or I don’t know if I’m going to make it you’re here you’re there in the courts you’re growing you’re flourishing wait I’m not going to go to heaven no of course I’m going to heaven.

▶ 19:09 Amen remember he wants that’s his goal for us to know him to know the only true God eternal life in Jesus Christ whom he sent and we can know him on this earth they shall still bear fruit in old age if you guys have ever heard the fruits of the spirit fruits of the spirit are love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness to woohoo gentleness self-control we’ve got spirit how about you it’s a song that used to play for the kids and that’s the way I remember it now so that’s what you get but these are the fruits of the spirit you want to be able to bear fruit in old age even when you’re older like many of the older ones here you want to bear fruit in old age. Amen what we don’t want to be dying.

▶ 19:59 If we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth so more talking about separating ourselves from darkness it’s important that we understand our fellowship uh where we spend our association in our time you know you can’t just go on to Sunday at church or Sunday once every six months or once a month and and say oh I’m connected to go well no you’re not because you’re going out through the week you’re going to go do uh the things with everyone else that are are participating in the kingdom of darkness you’ve got to make some choices am I going to associate and fellowship with God and with his people doing what God and his people do and we know what that is in it’s called the great commission going on verse 7 if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin in Hebrews it talks about you have come to mountain Zion the city uh on the hill with with with angels there are angels here this morning when you walked in that door you came to an very important place when people walked in the door at the church down the street and the church over there they walked into mount Zion an innumerable company of angels amen.

▶ 21:29 It’s very important that we fellowship and love one. Another Psalms 119:105 more on the light how do we walk in the light how do we follow the light as we know in this famous scripture it says your what word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Amen if we need if if you need guidance if you need help in your life the word of God that book that we should all have this morning I should have it I don’t have it it’s in my backpack that Bible it’s our lamp it’s our light it will guide us it will direct us amen very important if you want to walk in the light you got to have that light with you you got to put that light into you the plants they grab that light they they get it into them and they turn it into energy.

▶ 22:31 Amen we need to do the same thing Psalms 19:7 the law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul the statutes of the Lord are right rejoicing the heart the commandment of the Lord is pure enlightening the eyes the fear of the Lord is clean enduring forever the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous all together see the Bible has a a definition. It says what God’s word is it says that it’s perfect it says that there the the the statutes are right the commandment of the Lord is pure it’s not. Tainted so it’s very imperative that we include God’s word in our life read it listen to it put it into you Isaiah chapter 9 verse 2 the people who walk in darkness have seen a great light and those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death upon them a light has shined Isaiah 9:6 for unto us a child is born unto us a son is given the government will be upon his shoulder his name will be called wonderful counselor mighty God everlasting father prince of peace of the increase of his kingdom and peace there will be no end it’s important to remember that c God has sent his son Jesus Christ for us to partake of he’s.

▶ 23:59 Been sent to us he’s been sent to be a governor over the hearts of the people on this earth and we have a choice whether or not we’re going to live and follow him or not he has he has all the might that you could ever ask for he has he is the prince of peace he has peace that you need he has the joy that you need and of the increase of his government there is no end you you travel across halfway across the world he’s there he’s not limited you fly into space all these guys there’s only you know a few people that have gone into space under the international space station you an exclusive elite list of people even in space God is. There he has all authority all power and we.

▶ 24:57 Must re recognize that Jesus Christ has been sent for us for us to partake of to. Have and lastly we are the light of the world now Jesus said I am the light of the world and then he turned around in Matthew 5:14 he says you you and me we are the light of the world a city set on the hill that cannot be hidden and it says let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven no they don’t want to see you beating uh hurting your family abandoning your family they don’t want to you know we want to we want to show forth good works.

▶ 25:49 Amen whatever the past is forget about it let God come and change you who you are today. Amen but let’s start letting our light shine if we have it says we are the light of the world we want to start letting our light shine we can change today no matter what has happened in your past no matter what you’ve done God is not looking at your past he can change you. Today and we can become a light to the world neither do they light a lamp and put it under basket but on a lampstand it gives light to all who are in the house as we were reminded this morning the church in Revelations is the lampstand and the lampstand holds up what the light and it is our responsibility as a church to hold up the light of Jesus Christ to give light to all who are in the house and every everybody out of the house hey look at the light.

▶ 26:51 So God is asking us this morning we’re going to take some time here this morning. But we want to have an opportunity to respond to spend with him we’re going to take a few moments. Here to respond to his word is. Truth so God is asking us. Do we love darkness over him that’s what that scripture was saying do we side with or make it a habit to sin do we practice sin or are we practicing truth and right will we come to the light Jesus Christ and let it change.

▶ 27:48 Us you got to remember that light is so powerful the light of Christ that gives life don’t you want his life on you today. Are we walking in his light and we want to respond this morning take. Time and commit this morning let let God we want to spend some time if you if you got some hurts in your heart whatever you got going on we can use this time as as it’s called the altar when I was younger we had an altar where you could come to it was just uh like the the height of a chair you could come and you could bow down and you can let God invite him to just God come work me over God come Lord Jesus change me move upon me I need your spirit.

▶ 28:45 God and we want you know if you need a chair just turn around in your chair bow at your chair actually we need some up here we need to bring some up here so we can come forward like this scriptures say Jesus said come unto me we want to take that act that step of coming to God this morning so I’d like to invite you if you want to come to Jesus you need a chair just bring your chair forward and kneel before come before the altar this morning and kneel if you.
