The Holy Spirit's Benefits and Ministry: full transcript and answers

▶ 0:00 We’re going to go to John chapter 6. Verse 63. And find one of the benefits. And the ministries. Of the Holy Spirit. It says plainly here it is the spirit who gives life now remember there’s two lives in the Bible the one that now is Jesus said he’s come that you might have life and life more abundantly he wants you to be blessed here on earth with families and a house and a job and so forth and raising your children and a functional home. All that Jesus said that’s the life that now is in this present time then the life that is to come of course is that eternal life in the spirit world where we live with God forever.

▶ 0:53 Uh. The flesh he says profits nothing the flesh here is the carnal part of us. Galatians says the works of the flesh are sexual immorality anger jealousy hatred. You know all these things. That we. Express that comes not from the spirit but from our own lack of self-control. He said those things profit nothing. They have nothing to do with life. And then he gives us the second part of this the words I speak to you are spirit and life and so not only the spirit is life but the words in this book are life. And especially the words that Jesus spoke and the words that Jesus spoke through the prophets all up through since the beginning of time.

▶ 1:51 Now the words that Jesus was speaking to these people in John chapter 6 he was telling them that he was the Christ the messiah. That he was the bread of life that he was God that came down from heaven that’s what he was speaking to this group. He had just fed them the day before with five loaves and two fishes over 5000 people he multiplied the loaves and the fishes they liked the miracle of the loaves and the fishes. And. He turns to them and he says you know there are some of you who do not believe. And when he said that many of his disciples they were pupils followers of Christ many of these people disciples.

▶ 2:49 Left and walk no more with Jesus. Jesus said. There are some of you that do not believe. Now we know that they believed in God. They believed in the scriptures they believed in the Jewish religion. They believed in the Jewish bloodline. We know that they said in this chapter that this is the prophet that was to come they said Jesus was the prophet to come. They believed that they were a pupil of his a disciple all right they were following him in fact when Jesus went across the sea they went over to where he was at they were followers of Jesus. And they asked him for a sign we want a supernatural.

▶ 3:45 A miracle. You know that shows who you are and so they believed this so what did they not believe. All right. They did not believe that the spirit gives life. It was these words that got them that it was Jesus words are spirit and life. That Jesus is the Christ. And he is God from heaven. They did not believe that see they had a lot of other belief they had faith in the other things but they did not they were not persuaded faith means to be persuaded and convinced they were not persuaded that he was God.

▶ 4:38 See so they had faith. And their faith allowed them to believe all of this but not. The important stuff. All right now I submit to you this morning. That my faith. Is not the event. It’s not the happening. Jesus. Is the event. And me being a new creation a new creature in Christ is the event. Let me give you an illustration. I can work hard and save up money to buy a car. And I am now persuaded I can buy a car. Do I have the car.

▶ 5:31 No. I don’t have the car till I let go of the money. And drive that car home my faith in and buying that car and saving my money was not the event it wasn’t the happening. The happening is when I got the car and I could use the car. You understand church. And people. Think that because they believe and they have faith that’s the event that’s not the event it’s what you’re believing for and you experience it you possess it that’s the event and they rejected Jesus. And his words.

▶ 6:24 And stuck with their religion they stuck with believing in God they stuck with believing in scripture but they rejected Jesus as God the Christ the words that he spoke. They didn’t like his words of responsibility. He told him you had to be responsible for your actions in your life all right. Now. My faith is used twice in the Bible. In James chapter 2 verse 17 I will show you my faith by my works see we know what people are convinced of by their lifestyle. My older brother was an atheist so he ran down the Bible and Jesus and everything else my older brother smoked and I asked him I said you know they told you back there that smoking would kill you and then he’s in his 50s and he’s dying.

▶ 7:24 You see and he says I didn’t believe that see his faith. Believed his belief his faith told him that smoking was okay but when he got older and was dying from it how you know that’s a little late. Yeah. So see my faith can permit me to do destructive things. And you know people by their faith. You see now I wasn’t a smoker and a drinker. And both of my brothers that smoke and drink are gone. And that is fine smoking and drinking it seems like you get away with it till you get a little older in your 50s and then the body starts breaking down and things start happening and both of them still wanted to live. Both of them.

▶ 8:19 But their faith see you know you know by how you behave what your faith is you can say you believe in God in the Bible if you do then your behavior should back up God in the Bible. All right now Revelations 2:13 is the second place where this phrase is used. Jesus said in Revelation he’s talking I know your works. You did not deny my faith even in persecution. Ah. So our faith should be in what Jesus faith his persuasion what he’s trying to persuade us and convince us to do that should be we should have the faith of Christ and all these presidential candidates they all say they have they all used this term my faith.

▶ 9:14 Every one of them and every one of them had different beliefs. And every one of them talks like their faith is acceptable. And America uses it all the time everybody has different. Expressions of their faith but you know about their lifestyle you know about how they talk you know about how they walk now let me give an example Obama and Osteen’s faith permits same-sex marriage and same-sex acts no problem. Is that Jesus faith absolutely not. Jesus’s faith comes from the book of truth the Bible is a book of truth not a book of faith. And we must. Be established in truth and we should saying my truth from the Bible is.

▶ 10:08 Not my faith. Obama promotes muslim as an acceptable religion it doesn’t matter if they hate Jews they hate Christians they’re killing them they treat women like property. You know if you get into the religion you can’t get out or they’re going to kill you that’s not. Even logically. And acceptable religion could that be an amen. You know we condemn Jonestown and we condemn the Davidians for for doing things that hurt people and then we elevate muslims who are hurting people. Is that an amen. But see Obama and Osteen’s faith you know Osteen I don’t want to condemn anybody I don’t want to condemn anybody I’m not God I can’t judge.

▶ 11:05 If suppose ministers are supposed to preach the word the words of Christ that’s what sets people free now Oprah. And Bush jr faith allows all religions into heaven I got recordings of them both everybody’s going to heaven. No matter what religion and George Bush didn’t come out with that until after he was done with his second term of presidency he wrote a book and had us Christians believing he was a right on Christian when he wasn’t. This is a big problem. When you say all religions go to heaven and Jesus said I’m the only way the only truth in your only life that is a big problem. One of them’s lying and I tell you it ain’t Jesus. And George Bush and Oprah both said the Bible is not a book of truth and that’s exactly what the Bible says it is it’s a book of truth that George Bush said this in an interview after he was out of office.

▶ 12:17 Are you out there see his faith allowed him to believe this nonsense. Clinton bill Clinton’s faith allowed him to commit adultery over and over and over. And I even heard him say my faith forgives me. So I can go you know have another affair with another woman he’s a baptist he can just repent and you know that’s catholicism. When you don’t have to be responsible you can just put the holy water in or some act of repentance and everything’s okay see that’s his faith that is not Christ’s faith. Amen. See Romney’s faith allows the mormon founder Joseph Smith to have many wives and sex with other men’s wives in other words he married other men’s wife so that woman had two husbands and he was having sex with women that were another man’s wife.

▶ 13:27 And Romney’s faith allowed. Him to join a religion that the founder did this. That’s not the faith of Christ. You get it church. My faith. Is people trying to convince you to their faith. See everybody’s out I told you before baptists are trying to make a baptist out of you catholics are trying to make a catholic out of you pentecostals are trying to make a pentecostal out of you lutherans are lutheran atheists and atheists human is the humanist evolutionist everybody is trying to push their faith on. You on us. And we need the faith of Christ and we need to follow Christ could that be an amen.

▶ 14:25 You see he gives us truth. The Holy Spirit comes to convince us to Jesus’s faith. Jesus is good works. Jesus is right behavior. That’s what the Holy Spirit comes to do and that brings life. Amen not destruction life is the opposite of ruin destruction and death. Now the second one the benefits of the Holy Spirit. Is John 15:26 the spirit of truth. Who goes out from the father he will testify about me you see he will testify about me in in old pentecostal circles that I grew up in charismatic circles spirit filled circles they would get up and testify oh I believed God and and when I got to the store there was a parking place right at the front door.

▶ 15:31 I believe God I was going to be late for work and and I believed God and all the lights were green. I I said listen to this stuff and I’m going what in the world I got to do with anything. Everything that I had come from Christ. And as a young Christian all I could do most of the time when I got up to testify is I could just say I love Jesus not start bawling see that’s testifying about Jesus when you got anything good in you who gets the credit for it Jesus not you you don’t even get credit for your salvation you can’t say I come to God. He drew you. That means he lassoed you with a rope and dragged you to him. Are you there see he put the desire in there the reason you went running to Christ is he showed you your need and you went running to him but it was still him that did it.

▶ 16:39 We got to quit giving credit to ourself and the Holy Spirit won’t allow you to build up yourself. That’s not the Holy Spirit okay. Three and four. John 14:26 the comforter which is the Holy Ghost the comforter is the one that is a helper by your side in other words he’s with you wherever you go I love that word I love that word comforter. All right it also means he’s your legal aide. Now we’re talking about biblical legal act see when I do something that violates God’s word and I deserve to be punished I need a scriptural legal aid how about you and the comforter is there. To teach me what’s right and follow right he’s an encourager and he’s a mediator.

▶ 17:32 Christ is a mediator and all these all these guys are God you understand the Holy Ghost is God Jesus is God and God is God. All right. Whom the father will send in my name he will teach you all things. Okay. He will teach you all things and we need to be taught all things not just babies food we need to be taught responsibility truths. Accountability truths. The fourth one is he will bring all things to remembrance whatsoever I’ve said unto you and so he’s going to bring to your remembrance the word of God how many need a comforter that can help you remember. Yes yeah I’ve told you before you know growing up in pentecostal circle spirit field circles you know if you were really spiritual you didn’t need notes to preach oh yeah you just let the Holy Ghost speak through you and there were some crazy things come out of that but I found as a young minister that I needed notes.

▶ 18:45 You know. There’s nothing wrong with notes. We can’t remember everything but even in messages the Holy Spirit will bring scriptures and bring truth that is pertinent for that congregation. But I was in the word studying the word reading the word that it’s a storehouse he can bring it out of I wasn’t sitting home watching tv and going surfing and whatever all the time I had to put in for him to what bring out yeah. Five through eight. When a spirit of truth comes and that’s another thing folks he is a spirit of truth when you’re saying the spirit told you something and it isn’t backed up by the Bible you’re lying. The spirit will only bring truth to your remembrance and speak to you truth he will never give you something that is not already in the book.

▶ 19:45 Hallelujah so you better know it’s in the book before you say the spirit led me. Okay he will guide you into all truth all right so. Not just basic baby truths faith repentance water baptism baptism into the body baptism in the Holy Ghost laying on of hands resurrection of the dead. The eternal judgment the second coming second coming is baby doctrine basic doctrine he’s coming. Get over it with your idea how he’s coming he’s going to do it and and it isn’t a deeper life doctrine and we need to go on to mature doctrine righteous doctrine civil doctrines. The church in America is really lacking.

▶ 20:38 Government truths. They vote for idiots. They just they get all their information from the six o’clock news. Either CNN or or Fox News or something like that you’ve got to get news from heaven. To bring it into proportion and balance. Wise there are wise truths in the Bible there are spiritual truths in the Bible and we need them all could that be an amen. And when you go to a church that just feeds you salvation repentance water baptism second coming salvation repentance what about the second coming faith you’re not going to grow. And you’re not going to stand when the winds of adversity come.

▶ 21:30 All right he will speak only what he hears. Hallelujah. Only what the father tells him to speak and he’s going to talk to you from what the father is saying he will tell you what is yet to come now media they go well that’s what I want to know I want to know how how this how he’s going to return I want to know the second coming details I want to know the future I want to know if America is going to fall and an army is going to take us over I want to know I want to know what’s to come that isn’t exactly what he’s telling you. He’ll open that up to you in the scriptures but he’s going to tell you what’s going to come if you don’t have a job skill you’re not going to have a house you’re not going to have a car you’re not going to have medical to take care of your physical your body needs and you’re not going to have food that’s what’s going to happen.

▶ 22:28 See the Holy Spirit isn’t going to tell you to get on government welfare. And sit back and do nothing the spirit’s going to tell you if you don’t work you’re not going to eat. And so you need to get a job skill and if you don’t the Holy Spirit says you’re going to fail tomorrow you’re going to fail your family you’re going to fail yourself. Are you there. Well that’s good preaching right there. Hallelujah. No moral spouse you just marry anybody. Just to have sex. You’re going to wind up divorced you’re going to wind up with a dysfunctional family. Your kids are going to be idiots. Because you’re an idiot. Oh but I’ll just pray about it.

▶ 23:26 You can pray on doomsday it ain’t going to pay the bill. Work pays the bills and the Holy Spirit is going to tell you to get off your butt and work it’s going to tell you to go and learn a job skill and get out there and work can I hear an amen. And we fantasize about the second coming ooh the future oh we all got our little ideas about it and the Bible says none of us know and yet we act like we know. Are you there. And we got this fantasy that you know they’re promoting the rapture so strongly don’t worry don’t worry before I’m going to be taken out before yeah he don’t want you taken out he wants you solving the problem while you’re here. He wants you to show the power of God here.

▶ 24:27 If we don’t have moral wise civil leaders we’re not going to have a moral wise nation and I’ll tell you I listened to the debates this week and I saw no wisdom. Anna. And about the only person that even deals with morality is dr Carson. And he doesn’t seem to have the the charisma to get his message across. You know in America today if you’re not a rock star candidate you know you have some hoop thing people don’t vote for you. You get up and you just talk simple and uh. But the only one that even mentions character and the only one that even mentioned the preamble to the constitution was dr Carson.

▶ 25:24 And he didn’t say it with pizzazz. Because that preamble is so important and America can’t even tell you what it says and I guarantee you almost everybody in this room cannot tell me what the preamble says. And if you don’t know the preamble what good the constitution won’t do you a bit of good. Hallelujah. We need. Wise civil leaders and honestly that debate last night I it just irritated me. Focusing in on nonsense. And just repeated talk they told me the same thing that I heard back there in the summer and nobody hit morality. At all. They don’t care if over 400 000 Americans are dying every year from cigarettes.

▶ 26:22 And second-hand cigarette smoke it’s not just. Smokers it’s people having to breathe their smoke later thousands of them die. You see they don’t say anything about 90 000 people a year dying from alcohol-related deaths six million alcohol did or have a disease from alcohol six million Americans. They don’t talk about the millions that have [unclear] injuries that go to the emergency room every year millions and it costs 240 billion a year to deal with alcohol in America medically nobody is saying that. Amen. Is the lives of Americans just as important as the lives of the people in Syria as what I’m saying.

▶ 27:23 And Iraq. And Afghanistan our American life’s just as important and it doesn’t take bombing to help our situation it takes morals. That was good. And all we talk about is bombing and blowing up and anyway how many know that Holy Spirit is important how many know we need it in our life and we need it in the church yes we do. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you he is going to reveal Christ to you he’s going to reveal Christ’s words to you the Holy Spirit is important. You see. And the greatest sign I believe of being baptized in the Holy Ghost is a you are driven to the word of God.

▶ 28:23 Anybody can say they speak in tongues. But the people that I know that spoke in tongues were not driven most of them to the Bible. And when you’re not driven to the Bible there’s no change in your life so what good is tongues if there’s no change in your life. And the Bible is what changes you you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free the truth will mature you the truth will heal you the truth will make you wise hallelujah. Revelations 2:7. Jesus speaking to the church he that has an ear let him hear what the spirit says to the church not people’s faith not psychology. But Jesus’s faith the spirit when ministers are in tune with the spirit they’ll be in tune with the word and both of them are spirit and both produce life life is the absence of ruination destruction and death amen both now and eternally.

▶ 29:28 Hallelujah. And we don’t even allow in most churches this time for the spirit to move. Yeah worship is just play the favorite style of song that the they want to hear so they come it’s not singing and playing in spirit and in truth. And our word can be psychology and and and convenient and flattery instead of the truth of God but the spirit when he’s involved he is going to give us truth amen we need to hear the spirit. Mark 13:9 watch out for yourselves they will deliver you up the councils you will be beaten in synagogues that’s the church that’s the believers the believers are going to mistreat you.

▶ 30:22 You will be brought before rulers and kings you’re going to go before local rulers and national rulers. And the reason you’re going to go is what. Let’s say it for a testimony to them he didn’t say it good enough come on for a testimony to them. You see we read it as oh my God we’re being persecuted God reads it as I am going to take you there so they can hear and see the gospel in you. Wow. Amen. Does he care about government leaders yes do they deserve to hear the gospel amen a testimony proof you’re going to be proof.

▶ 31:23 Evidence. And the church is going to be disagreeing with you mistreat you verbally abusing you that’s what church members do. Uh if you don’t agree with me you know they’re going to debate they you know church members think that they debate enough you know they’re being spiritual. And they argue and argue they never get anywhere why because the spirit has to open truth the spirit has to put truth in us could that be an amen. Verse 10 the gospel first must be preached to all nations. Matthew says it a little better this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world as a what witness what were we to be before the rulers a witness evidence and proof okay this gospel is going to be evidence and proof and I showed you before that the apostles went out and there were they had the great witness of the gospel they did signs and wonders and mighty deeds and their word was so powerful.

▶ 32:38 That it changed people’s lives it pricked their hearts. Then the end will come and we’re worried about the end. I think we need to focus on God moving in his people to where we are a witness to those around us and even civil leaders and the gospel of Christ is back up backed up with supernatural power. Signs and wonders and mighty deeds. You know well so one focus on the end oh come will come well. Now here it is when they arrest you. Call the 24-hour prayer line. All right email Oral Roberts so he can take it to the prayer tower.

▶ 33:36 Now. When they arrest you do not what weary why God has a purpose. God’s involved in this. Or premeditate what you’re gonna speak oh man I gotta oh I. I gotta I gotta get a hold of Osteen and get his [unclear]. Whatever is giving you in that hour at that time speak for it is not you who speak but the what Holy Spirit what is he saying in your difficult situation the Holy Spirit will give you the right words to say. Amen. And people don’t want to be baptized in the Holy Ghost and they say it’s not for today and everything I need this today how about you how many you know I don’t have to be arrested and brought before the the judicial system to be in a difficult situation I can be in a difficult situation in my daily life and the Bible says the Holy Spirit will give me the words to say the words that will encourage me to do what’s right or the words that will encourage the opposition to change their opposition.

▶ 34:58 I submit to you this Holy Ghost baptism is very important. Luke says the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what to say just relax if you’ve been praying you’ve been reading and you’ve been serving God believe me and I’ve been in difficult situations even in the courtroom and let me tell you it works. It really works. All right. Now here’s the kicker. Brother will betray brother to death. A father will betray his children children will be against the parents you will be hated. And by all people for my name’s sake. But he endures to the end.

▶ 35:50 The goal. Now what was the goal of us being brought before magistrates. Be a witness to. Yes. He said. Hallelujah. He endures to the goal shall be saved all right I submit to you what are they saved from. We know they believe in Jesus. We know they’ve been water baptized we know they are saved from the day of wrath because Jesus saves us from that day of wrath that tribulation time. Okay we know that. We know we’re saved from the lake of fire. The blood of Christ cleanses from sin we’re not going to go to the lake of fire well what do these people need saved for.

▶ 36:48 Are you with me you want to know. The persecution from speaking the gospel as a witness. Yes. He’s going to save you from the persecution. In Revelation there’s only a limited number of people that’s going to be martyred those are declared by God most of us are going to come through the tribulation the problems even our family turning against us we’re going to be saved. Amen yeah give the word a clap offering yes. But see it’s the Holy Ghost that’s going to do this.

▶ 37:41 And why people want to argue whether it’s for today or not for today or where do you speak in tongues or don’t speak entire get rid of the argument get rid of the debate and get the ghost. Get the comforter. Amen we all need him. Now I know most people in America believe that we’re going to have a seven year tribulation period and the saints are going to be raptured out so they don’t go through the tribulation. That’s a bunch of baloney. They fabricated that. It plainly says in Matthew. After the great tribulation of those days. You will see the sign of the coming sign of the coming of the son of man we’re still here.

▶ 38:36 And why can we be here let’s go to Israel. In Egypt. Did God save Israel from Egypt. Yes did he protect them during the plagues that he poured out. Yeah no darkness in Israel’s dwelling no firstborn died in Israel’s. Home no hail on Israel from heaven destroying everything no plague on Israel’s cattle no boils on Israel the people of God. See no flies. Can God keep us in judgment and tribulation. Yes that shows he’s God he’s got to snatch us out for the tough stuff what kind of God has to do that we’re so wimpy he’s got to snatch us out.

▶ 39:37 Because we can’t handle the tough stuff. I submit to you the blood that Jesus shed on that cross is powerful not only to forgive you of sin but deliver you from sin and keep you. Amen he will finish the good work he began in you and that’s what will turn the world to Christ when he sees that you get to the place where you’re not only your sins are forgiven but you’re living right and you got the right word the wise words the the word of God in your mouth they then can turn to God that’s God’s purpose amen. So you’re God’s army in the earth. As well as his charity as well as his sons and daughters. And Moses went up to the ruler of Egypt Pharaoh and spoke to Pharaoh just like we read when they bring you before the rulers don’t worry about it I’ll give you what to say when God when Moses got up there.

▶ 40:41 The Holy Spirit gave him the words to say amen. And Pharaoh had the witness of Christ. A mixed multitude came out. Mongrel people came out half egyptian half Jews. Some people when they begin to see what God was doing and God said he was going to bring the hail to destroy everything outside the people that many of these Egyptians they believed God and brought their cattle and their servants from out of the field. And the hard-headed ones left them in and they got destroyed see God gave them the warning so here we have what a turning of Egyptians to the Lord God. Isn’t that what God wants to do yes. He wants to set these people that have put us in the bondage that are in bondage to sin free while he is glorifying himself in us church that’s a powerful gospel amen. Powerful.
