Jesus is the King of glory, and praise opens the gates. Praise and the word are a two-edged sword that strengthens us, binds kings and shook Paul and Silas’s prison. God gives fresh glory to those who repent, arise and shine; the latter house’s glory will exceed the former.

What is prayed?

Short answer: That we would hear what He is speaking to His church and do it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 18:48 Lord. You’re good. Jesus Jesus Lord Jesus thank you Lord God that we can come in your presence Lord God and feel that embrace Lord Jesus. Lord Jesus that we can be a part of your kingdom Lord God and be accepted and grow Lord Jesus that we would be able to understand your word Lord God Jesus Jesus continue your presence in our lives not just right now but when we go home that we can seek you and you would come Lord of God and we would not give up we would not get distracted because it didn’t work one time but we would go back and we would see you again and again until you come Jesus and you inhabit those praises you inhabit that seeking and you come to make us stronger and to grow us Lord God to give us your power and your strength Lord Jesus.

Amen you may find your seats this morning. Uh we have a message on the glory of the Lord. And we want to express this morning how important the glory of God is and how it’s different than uh. Other things other things that the church or people may be offering the glory of the Lord is something special.

How do we let the King of glory in?

▶ Watch this part (20:49)

Short answer: Jesus is the glory; lift up your gates—the mouth, where blessing and cursing must not both come out.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 20:49 And as a church we want to get the glory of God and be able to offer it to the world and have it in the church. Last week we were we or two weeks ago we learned that Jesus Christ is the glory and as it says in Hebrews chapter 1 verse 2. Who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person so we learned that Jesus is the glory in Psalms 24 verse 7 it goes on and confirms this says lift up your heads oh you gates and be lifted up ye everlasting doors and the king of glory shall come in who is this king of glory it goes on to say and says who it is the Lord strong and mighty amen the Lord mighty in battle the Lord of hosts he is the king of glory no mistaking that amen.

▶ 21:53 Jesus Christ in the Old Testament his name is the Lord and so it’s talking about Jesus. Christ here is the king of glory he is the glory but also here we see a key to obtaining it says who is this king of glory and how let the king of glory come in and it’s talking about the gates in Isaiah chapter 60 verse 18 on your sheet if you look and you can find it and you’ll fill it out he shall call your walls salvation and your gates praise. And so what are these gates the Bible says that the gates are praise. And when you think about a castle or a a stronghold you have the walls that are very strong like jericho the walls were strong uh.

▶ 22:50 But the gates that’s where it opens and closes that’s where people go in and out and that’s where you are vulnerable. The Bible says in James chapter 3 verse 10 out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing my brethren these things ought not to be so does the spring send forth fresh and bitter water from the same opening so you can use your gates to let out cursing or blessing and God is saying open up your gates bless God praise God and the king of glory will come in the gates are also the place where reinforcements can come there’s a picture here of a a a castle preparing for battle and all of a sudden this group of warriors shows up and they come in through the gates and these guys are so happy these guys are experts and with the bows and sword and their their reinforcements and we need reinforcements in our life you need to praise God open up your mouth lift up his name so that the king of glory is his name is also the captain of the hosts and he will fight for you he

What does praise do?

▶ Watch this part (24:21)

Short answer: The captain of the host fights for us; praise and the word are a two-edged sword that can bind kings.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 24:21 will fight for on your behalf. How many know. Before Jesus showed up you were looking pretty sad right. And when Jesus came in the captain of the host you got all of a sudden you went from zero to a thousand or a million strong amen. That’s the way Jesus is he’s powerful he’s strong in Psalms chapter 51 14 it says my tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness. You can always find something good to say about king Jesus. You can sing about him day and night because that’s how many good things there are to say about God the Bible says that the the books could not contain all of the good things about Christ all the things that he did and that he’s doing today.

▶ 25:18 You know I can tell you all the things God’s done for me but think about the millions and billions of people in the world and each one of them has something good to say about what God has done in their life those who believe. My tongue shall sing and my mouth shall show forth your praise so our mouth should not be uh. A place where it’s perverted and out of it is coming wicked things and wrong things it should come out things that should come out of our our mouth our praise to God and good and and right should be coming out of our mouth the Bible says the tongue is a fire we have to tame our tongue and Jesus Christ is the king of kings and the Lord lords and he will help you tame your tongue.

▶ 26:14 And so we’re going to stop and we’re going to recognize the power of praise and understand its connection to the glory it says in Psalms 149 let the high praises of God be in their mouth. A two-edged sword the word in their hand and so we see here that praise and God’s word are connected they’re important together praising God and using the word in praise is very important our high praises should be exalting and lifting up God and you can also use God’s word the Psalms the the the the stories in the Old Testament in the New Testament and dying on the crossroad sin using all of that is his word. And you can use his word to praise him and lift him up.

▶ 27:11 To execute vengeance on the nations and punishments on the peoples to bind their kings with chains they’re nobles with fetters of iron to execute on them with written judgment see praise and the word of God can affect the governments of this world and we need that you know we’re sitting here in America and things are not so great but think about other countries where it’s really not great. Praise is necessary God’s word is necessary. And we need to use it. Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10 finally my brethren be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might Psalms 8:2 says what that might and that strength is out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have ordained strength and when Jesus references this in the New Testament it’s praise praise strength might it’s all the same thing.

Praise the LORD!

Who is praise for?

▶ Watch this part (28:14)

Short answer: For you—to make you strong; spiritual darkness needs spiritual weapons, not guns or debates.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 28:14 If you want to get strong it’s not that God is sitting up there waiting for somebody to give him glory and pounding because these people aren’t praising me today. No it’s for you it’s to get make you strong it’s to give you strength in your life it’s so that God can do a work in your heart and in your life and the scriptures also tell us of another thing the joy of the Lord is my strength amen. And God can give you joy. In in Ephesians 6 uh two we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness the rulers of darkness of this age against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

▶ 29:09 You see we have to use the spiritual weapons for spiritual darkness. You cannot try and fight spiritual darkness with natural weapons you cannot use a bow and arrow you can’t use a gun you can’t use your fist you can’t use you know some debate that you have you have to use the spiritual weapons that God has created that is praise with your mouth the humbling of yourself and lifting up of Jesus Christ he comes and he fights for you and the kingdom of darkness trembles when we praise and we will lift up the name of Jesus Christ. And many of us have experienced this the power and the strength that comes from praising God I’ve experienced it when you praise God and he comes if you feel strong amen.

Why do we need strength?

▶ Watch this part (30:09)

Short answer: The full armor weighed about 152 pounds; you need strength to take up the sword, shield and breastplate.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 30:09 It’s good thing. I want to take a look here for a moment and the the whole we know in Ephesians it says to put on the whole armor of God right so that we can stand against the principalities and powers of darkness so that we can fight against the spiritual wickedness but there’s an implication in this armor right there is something implied. When you go in the military you see this guy on the right here he has a gun he has a helmet he has all of his gear he has a bell he’s got the uh body armor bulletproof vest he’s got all kinds of things and the average marine corps infantry officer should be physically able to carry a 152 pounds.

▶ 31:07 For nine miles. Can you imagine that a 152 pounds that is a lot of weight and I mean it’s not like you’re having to carry it in one hand I mean it’s all over your body right all little pieces all connected but it all adds up to about fifty a hundred and two pounds and they say it might sound extreme but carrying a hundred pounds is a standard so the military standard is a hun being able to carry a hundred pounds for nine miles can you imagine that some in uh infantry men described carrying more than 200 pounds during missions in afghanistan. So when they were going up in the hills and carrying all their gear they had to carry a lot of weight so what does that take to carry all that it takes what strength it takes might and if you want to put on the whole armor of God you need to exercise some strength you need to have some strength you can’t just put the armor of God on some kid or a baby that is not exercising strength.

▶ 32:22 The power the the praise getting God’s strength now if you want to wield the sword and if you want to have that shield and uh you’ve got to start with having strength. Taking up the sword takes time to read and study the Bible taking up the shield it will take your time to act out act out your faith like zacchaeus the woman with the issue of blood the woman who wiped Jesus’s feet with her tears they all acted in faith and what was their faith that they got up from where they were they left what they were doing they overcame all the obstacles and came to where Jesus was.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Ephesians 6:11-17 (NKJV)

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

— Ephesians 6:11-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:09

How did Joseph wait?

▶ Watch this part (33:15)

Short answer: He trusted the word God gave him and worked hard as a slave until God raised him up.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 33:15 That was their faith that Jesus was talking about they took up if you want to take up the breastplate of righteousness you’re gonna it’s gonna take some self-control but it’s all worth it but you got to have some strength. And we’re gonna find out who can get this strength at the end here in just a few moments. But we’re going to talk we’re going to look at binding their kings first in Psalms 105:17 it talks about the uh Joseph how he bound their kings and he says he sent a man before them Joseph who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters he was laid in irons until the time of his that his word came to pass the word of the Lord tested him the king sent and released him the ruler of the Peter will let him go free he made him Lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions to bind his princes at his pleasure and teach his elders wisdom Joseph.

▶ 34:18 Did not have the Old Testament he didn’t have the New Testament but he had a word from God that came to him and he had to trust and believe and hope that God would bring it to pass Joseph was a slave for a Potiphar and he worked hard while he was there he wasn’t crying and moping around he worked hard for Potiphar he was busy doing the best he could with the situation he had then that uh Potiphar’s wife sent him to jail and he went into prison and he didn’t go you know he probably had his bad days we all have her bad days right but he got up and he started working in the prison and people in the prison are like oh who’s that guy over there he works here what’s his name oh Joseph yeah yeah get the get that guy over here you know he worked hard and people didn’t even know he was a prisoner.

▶ 35:16 That’s the way he portrayed himself he had God’s a word from God he was trusting and hoping that God would bring it to pass and while he’s waiting he is working hard he is making the best of his situation and all of a sudden everything changes God brings him before Pharaoh and he becomes the ruler of Egypt. So he went from being bound. He went from being in irons physically to now he is the one in charge of the princes that bound uh that word there underlined means he had control he had control of the princes now he was second in command and how many know we want control the church wants to have control over our government people have some influence over what they’re doing and if they’re doing wrong or right we want some influence and control amen why because we’re going to do just things Joseph did nothing but just and right when he ruled he saved uh this he saved Egypt from famine the famine that came for seven years he stored up all that grain and he distributed it to people for years and he saved them and that nation from death.

What gives authority?

▶ Watch this part (36:54)

Short answer: When the righteous rule, the people rejoice; the Bible distinguishes right and wrong—abortion is against life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 36:54 Going back to praise in Proverbs 29 verse 2 when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice when the wicked bear rule the people mourn praise and the word of God gives us authority. In Psalms Proverbs 21:11 when the scorner is punished the simple is made wise. Punishment is not bad but it should be based on right and wrong the Bible distinguishes between good and evil and should be used as the authority. And Romans chapter 13 3 it says rulers are not a terror to good works but to evil for he does not bear the sword in vain for he is God’s minister an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil so according to Paul here government should be against evil behavior not against god-given rights see our government right now is against god-given rights life.

▶ 37:58 They’re against life. Abortion is not life. You know you want to kill a baby who was uh baby a nine months in the womb oh because they’re in the womb they’re not no they’re not alive that doesn’t make any sense it’s absurd. The second amendment that protects our lives right that is a right to life we want to be able to protect ourselves liberty freedom from government suppression in the form of taxes. High taxes small businesses can’t start because there’s the costs are so high. In different states. And the pursuit of happiness you know there’s the government should not be suppressing the ones that are doing good they should be out there holding those that are doing evil accountable for the wrong they are doing that’s what government is for.

What were the effects of praise?

▶ Watch this part (39:07)

Short answer: At midnight Paul and Silas sang, the prisons shook, and the jailer was baptized; God ordained praise from babes.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 39:07 And the Bible should be used for that. To distinguish between what is right and what is wrong so going back to praise the effects of praise. We know this story of Paul and Silas. In Acts chapter 16:25 at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God and the prisoners were listening to them so here we have these two men they’re apostles they’re in prison and God is coming to them in prison the glory of God is coming the prisoners are listening suddenly there’s a great earthquake all the doors were open and everyone’s chains were loosed. They fell down trembling before Paul and Silas I’m sorry the the guard fell down trembling and said what must I do to be saved he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes immediately he and all his family were baptized and you see what Paul and Silas were bringing was the glory of God the glory of God is what changed this man and his whole family brought him from sin to.

▶ 40:29 Being baptized and committing himself to serve Jesus Christ the glory of God. And these are the effects of praise and finally here this honor has all his saints praise you the Lord in Psalms chapter 8 verse 2 it says out of the mouths of babes and sucklings I have ordained praise it’s for everyone. You can have as much of you much of this as you want it’s for you praising God you can do it when you go home you can take time to praise God if you don’t know how Psalms has a great uh layout of how to do it you just start there and you keep going you keep growing in it and you learn to praise God and it will bless your life and then learn to include God’s word in that and learn God’s word and pretty soon you are going to have a lot of power and strength to defeat the enemy.

Will God give His glory to another?

▶ Watch this part (41:35)

Short answer: No—but we are joint heirs with Christ; Simon the sorcerer tried to buy it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 41:35 And it’s not the only thing we want we want his glory we want to offer his glory to people to young people to those that need an answer for their lives we need to offer the glory to this world because that’s the thing that is going to change everything. So in praising God we got we have to open the gates we want to open the gates to receive the king of glory that’s the solution that he’s talking about there in Psalms strength is the foundation of a warrior if you want to put on the whole armor of God you’ve got to have praise down high praise in the word are unbeatable they are going to win the word can change the nations and not only the nations but the governments kings will come kings will be affected by this governments will be affected by this praise leads to deliverance like it did with Paul and silence.

▶ 42:44 The glory is for us in Isaiah 42 verse 8 it says my glory I will not give to another and 48 verse 11 it says I will not give my glory to another again same thing I will not give my glory to another so it repeats itself twice. In Acts chapter 8:18 we learn kind of what this means Simon the sorcerer he offered Peter money and said hey give me this power that anyone whom I lay hands on will receive the Holy Spirit and Peter replies that your heart is not right repent of this wickedness. For I see that you’re poisoned by bitterness and iniquity God’s glory is not something to be bought it’s not something that the rich people get because they’re rich it’s not something the poor people get because they’re poor you’re not going to get it because of your your ethnicity or wherever you’re from you get it because you’re seeking Jesus Christ praising and exercising the principles to receive the glory of God.

Is the glory fresh?

▶ Watch this part (43:56)

Short answer: Yes—sing a new song; the glory of the ’70s and ’80s affected even students who didn’t want to be there.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 43:56 In Romans 8:16 the scriptures say that we are heirs of God joint heirs with Christ you see if he if he has something then we if he gets something we get it too right if he gets the glory then we get some glory amen. Amen. The glory is fresh you may have been serving God for 50 years maybe 60 years 70 years who knows how long you’ve been serving God but if you are seeking God’s glory God makes serving him new and fresh and it’s exciting because you can read that you may have read the Bible 200 times and you’ll read it again and God will reveal something to you that you never saw before and it’s new and it’s fresh and it’s exciting to serve Jesus Christ.

▶ 44:54 Before they spring forth I tell you of them sing to the Lord a new song and his praise from the ends of the earth looking back at our church back in the 70s and in the 80s people wrote new songs unto the Lord we still sing some of these songs today. And the glory I whoever I talk to from that time whenever I talk to them and their experience with God’s glory nobody’s complaining. God would have come God would touch the church back then and nobody is complaining about it they had nothing but good to say when God showed up because people exercise this principle amen. And the product that came out of that I was a recipient of those who experience God’s glory those who experience God’s glory at that time submitted themselves to work in a school and jointly uh work together to raise up children the way they should go and yes it may have been a drudgery for those doing it not a drudgery but it was hard work.

How do times of refreshing come?

▶ Watch this part (46:09)

Short answer: Repent and be converted; God casts our sins away and remembers them no more.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 46:09 Hard work initiatives is like yes. It was hard work for these teachers it was hard work but that. From my our from from perspective or from students perspective even the stinkers they didn’t want to be there. The glory of God had an effect on people that were willing to uh. Work. To get the job done to raise us in a good influence and good environment and I am blessed because of that I’m just I’m bringing this up because it works the glory of God works it’s a powerful thing acts chapter 3 19 says repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out so at times a refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord if you’re just a believer today or an unbeliever you don’t know God at all or you are a believer this message is to both and even if you are following God we there’s certain there’s things in our life if you have sin if you have hell sins in your life you know if you’re committing sexual immorality or some kind of intoxication sin or if you’re just trying to control your temper kind of sin or profanity or whatever you’ve got to repent and turn from those things repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out God wants to blot them

▶ 47:40 out says that he will forget them your sins and your iniquities I will remember no more he casts them into the sea of forgetfulness he gets rid of them he’s not going to bring it back to your attention when you turn from it repent from it. So that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord if you want the glory of God to come and refresh you you’ve got to repent you’ve got to turn from the sin. And we want it from the presence of God not from some person not from somebody who’s uh. You know it’s not in some person it’s Jesus Christ and the power of him. The power of God. In Isaiah chapter 60 there is a prophecy.

What does Isaiah 60 promise?

▶ Watch this part (48:38)

Short answer: Arise, shine—the glory of the Lord has risen upon you, and kings will come to your brightness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 48:38 About the church. And this prophecy works for the church in every year every decade every century. Arise shine he says shine. If you’re living in sin sin today it’s time to repent be converted. Jesus says himself in red letters Matthew 5:16 you are the light of the world let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father you see God wants you to live right he wants you to follow right so that the world can see wow look what God has done that they may glorify the father in heaven. For your light has come arise shine for your light has come why shine because Jesus the light has come Jesus says I am the light of the world he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life a lot of people want to say that serving God or or have this perspective that serving God is boring and it it’s it’s why do I want God telling me what to do why do I want his rules no the light of Jesus is the light of life you thought you had a fun time before in life before Jesus Christ has more.

▶ 50:09 Than you were experiencing he has more life. And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you so this prophecy is about his church and his people that decide to stand up and shine that decide to follow God wholeheartedly. Your light has come Jesus has come and he’s going to uh. The glory of the Lord is going to rise upon you he explains it further behold the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people but the Lord will arise over you and his glory will be seen upon you you started out you repented and uh you’re you’re working on shining but your shining was like a little candle right like little like a birthday candle you guys ever done a birthday candle yeah they’re really small and they don’t last long no but from far away at night I see something in the distance I think there’s a birthday candle over there I I don’t know if we should walk to it I can’t you hold that birthday candle you can’t see very much.

▶ 51:22 But it says the Lord will arise over you so you just went from a birthday candle light to now you are bright shining why because God arose over you and his glory is now seen upon you he just sent you from one candle to a million candle brightness all right you went from one lumen to one billion lumens because Jesus got involved and that’s the way it works God this is his promise to his church the Gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising. So that’s the question will we rise.

▶ 52:13 Will we arise and shine see we have a choice the church has a choice are we going to arise and shine are we just going to sit on our tush. Are we gonna do what the scriptures say to do are we going to do what we want to do. Kings again are mentioned here governments will be affected by the brightness of the church rising. Gentiles shall see your righteousness and all kings your glory should we be living right yes. Here it confirms what shining means see what your righteousness your good works it all confirms itself I will gather all nations and tongues and they shall come and see my glory. And they’re seeing it in the church so are we offering God’s glory are we leading people to it do we give them a chance to obtain it are we just offering music books uh our programs.

How do people reject the glory?

▶ Watch this part (53:22)

Short answer: They change the glory of God into an image, like the golden calf, or seek money instead.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 53:22 We’ve got to put this as a high priority the glory of God. And we also want to recognize. The glory of God came to Paul and Silas in the prison. It didn’t come globally yet it didn’t come worldwide yet but it did come in this little prison where Paul and Silas were you know we don’t have to wait for God to move across the globe with his glory sovereignly we don’t have to wait for God to arise throughout the church in the northern and the southern hemisphere all together we can have you can have this in your life as an individual just like Paul and Silas did just like Joseph did he put his trust in his faith in God’s word and he followed it no matter what was going on around him.

▶ 54:20 And we’ve got to exercise these basic principles of praise the high praises his word exercising these things to get his glory in our lives in Romans chapter 1:23 people reject the glory of God they change the glory of God into an image Moses went up to the mountain if you remember and he saw the glory of God and he’s having this great meeting and he’s talking about wow God wants to give him a pattern for uh the the temp the tabernacle that he’s going to build and all this and they’re having this long conversation somehow lasting days and he comes down and his face is shining the glory of God moving on him he comes down and what kind of glory do the people have they have a golden calf.

▶ 55:13 And so right there you see they traded the glory of God what they could have had for an image and we can do the same thing today we can be seeking for something that we want and not the glory of God we may be seeking for an image or we may be seeking for money we may be seeking for whatever it is. Are you seeking the glory of God. Therefore he gave them up to uncleanness and lusts of their hearts to dishonor their bodies among themselves who exchanged the truth of God for the lie worshiping and serving the creature rather than the creator. So that’s the other thing people will want to worship the creature the human the physical body oh my gosh he’s so handsome or oh my gosh these scientists are so smart look at them look at the awards that they have oh they’re so excellent and beautiful and wonderful oh my gosh I’m gonna praise them.

What is God’s promise to the church?

▶ Watch this part (56:17)

Short answer: The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 56:17 That’s what we do. These uh these scientists think they’re really something. They are nothing in comparison to the creator and we need to worship the creator and lift up the creator amen. But God has a promise to his church. God has a promise to his people in Haggai chapter 2 verse 7 I will shake all nations and the desire of all nations shall come and I will fill this house with glory God is going to do it whether we want it or not he’s going to do it one day sovereignly throughout the world but as I said already you don’t have to wait we don’t have to wait to get God’s glory we can have his glory now we can offer it to people now.

▶ 57:17 Haggai chapter 2 verse 9 the glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former says the Lord and in this place I will give peace the glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former. And the glory of the former church was great. Those guys put in a lot of work God came and he used them God came if you remember in acts chapter 2 verse or chapter 3 when Peter was preaching and all of a sudden thousands were added to the church in one day God was doing a great work. And he’s going to do it again but we don’t have to wait for him to do it sovereignly we can have it in our individual lives we can have it we can get God’s glory but we’ve got to exercise these principles.
