Scripture in this part
John 16:33 (NKJV)
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:31 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Are you reconciled to God?
Short answer: Mrs. Thompson asks whether, though saved, God has anything against you when you come to worship; be reconciled first.
▶ 25:43 Morning well it’s good to be in God’s house God is faithful he’s true to his word and uh like to invite uh the first person to come on up and share I think m mrs Thompson are you available and ready okay well come up and join. Us okay um this is just a a placeholder but it was something I always said when I was teaching in children’s church stick with Jesus and you’ll have a happy life and that’s not what it’s about but that’s just there uh not what I want to share about so forgive me if I fall into children’s church mode and get all excited about kids and stuff. Okay Matthew ch 25: 23 and 24 if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has anything against you leave your gift leave there your gift before the altar and go your way first be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift Jesus preached these words to the disciples and the multitude that were around him and we know that it deals with how you treat others especially how you treat others in the body of Christ but look at it this way does God have anything against.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:23-24 (NKJV)
Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
— Matthew 5:23-24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 27:10 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why does Jesus rebuke and chasten?
Short answer: In Revelation He said as many as I love I rebuke and chasten; be zealous and repent. He isn’t saying you’re evil beyond redemption.
▶ 27:11 You although you are saved are you reconciled to God over things that are not what he wants think about it this way leave your you come to worship does God have anything against you and it says be reconciled. First Revelations um we just had a a a long series of teachings of lessons on these here and it’s uh written Jesus is talking to the leaders of the churches and he says in chapters 2 and three he’s saying nevertheless I have somewhat against you but I have a few things against you notwithstanding I have a few things against you I have not found your works perfect before God now Jesus for the most part in he spoke encouragingly to these different churches that are listed in these two chapters now a few of them he really lit into he told them they were lukewarm they were wretched they were blind they were dead they were letting pe wicked people have part in their church and not removing.
▶ 28:20 Them but for the most part he spoke encouragingly to them about a few things and why he meant he dealt with things that had to be corrected by repentance and adjustment and he says in that chapter as many as I love I rebuke and chasten be zealous therefore and repent now he’s not. Saying. You’re evil beyond redemption he’s saying just repent I’m corre correcting you just repent uh let me adjust you and this is what he’s talking about Ephesians 4: 11 through. 13 and he gave some apostles some prophets some evangelists some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ till we all come into the unity of the faith.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 3:19 (NKJV)
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
— Revelation 3:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:20Why does God correct us?
Short answer: To perfect and adjust us, not throw us out, until we come to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
▶ 29:28 And to the knowledge of the son of God unto a perfect man unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ this is why he’s coming to correct us to perfect us to adjust us not to throw us out and I like the I like the definition of the dictionary word of perfection in the old dictionaries it says the action or process of improving something until it is is as faultless as possible that’s the goal not not crushing you that’s the goal to bring you to the measure of Christ Hebrews uh 12: 5-1 here’s those two words again despise not the chastening of the Lord nor faint when you are rebuked of him for whom here’s the key for whom the Lord loves he chastens and scourges every son he receives if you endure if you endure that correction God deals with you as sons for what son is he whom the father does not chasen a good father a just and corrects his son so here remember God is a father.
Scripture in this part
Ephesians 4:13 (NKJV)
till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
— Ephesians 4:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:28How should we take God’s correction?
Short answer: As we respected our fathers’ correction, so much more the Father of spirits; it isn’t fun at the time but produces fruit.
▶ 30:49 And uh then he’s talking about this that example of fathers correcting. Children and he says we respect ed that and we accepted that well shouldn’t we rather have that same attitude towards God when he’s coming to adjust us and and then he says and live so remember God is a father and that correction produces fruit now it doesn’t seem fun at the time. But. Painful okay nevertheless afterward after you’ve been adjusted it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness so that’s what you can expect after you’ve been corrected James 3: 17 and 18 but the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable gentle and easy to be entreated full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and without hypocrisy and the fruit here’s that fruit and the fruit of righteousness after the correction is sown in peace of them that make peace so the fruit of righteousness is peaceable it brings peace not more turmoil to your life doesn’t bring more anger it doesn’t bring more despair it makes you free from conflict if you just look at it that.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 12:9-11 (NKJV)
Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
— Hebrews 12:9-11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:49How do we know that we know the Father?
Short answer: She says we know the Father because He has corrected us.
▶ 32:16 Way 1 John chapter 2:12 and 13 now here’s one that as 50 years old as uh 50 years as michael was talking about I never saw this until just a little while. Ago I write unto you little children because you have known the Father how do we know him how do we know that we know. Him we know the father because he has corrected us if you’ve been corrected you know God the father you know God God as a father if you accept that. Correction. And I write unto you little children because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake after the correction is the forgiveness just like a father uses careful restraint in disciplining his child God forgives our sins because of Jesus.
Scripture in this part
1 John 2:12-13 (NKJV)
I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake. I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.
— 1 John 2:12-13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:16What does Jesus offer the heavy laden?
Short answer: Rest: take My yoke upon you, for My yoke is easy and My burden is light; young saints can be so hard on themselves.
▶ 33:25 Christ come uh Matthew 11:28-30 come unto me all that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light as saints being adjusted by God a especially younger saints young people we can be so hard hard on ourselves it’s the end of the world I made a mistake it’s the end of the world no Jesus said you will find rest the correction of God and his adjusting is spiritually restful and his yoke is easy so whatever you’re. Feeling that this is what is the reality of it his yoke is easy and his burden is light and you will get rest out of being adjusted and corrected by God 1 John 1:19.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
— Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:25What should I do when I need correcting?
Short answer: Repent and admit it; it’s His job to forgive. Don’t beat yourself up; focus on how God feels, not how you feel.
▶ 34:28 We’ve heard this a million zillion times if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness our job is to repent and admit we may need some correction now will you open to God’s voice that he might want some improvement out of you just be open to that but remember it’s his job to forgive it’s his job to cleanse it’s just your s job to say say I messed up okay I admit it I admit it I’m not hiding it okay let’s let’s keep going and don’t. Don’t.
▶ 35:09 Well is when you need. Correcting don’t beat yourself. Up be confident that God loves you because he treats you as a father does his child and I hope now I didn’t have that example growing up as a father and my parents were not like that okay but now I know God the father he’s the father so oh and so just get over it and go on to the next step that’s that’s the best thing I can tell young people just get over it it’s just I made a mistake get over it and focus on the words of the scripture don’t pay that my advice don’t pay attention to your feelings focus on the words of the scriptures because those words are the feeling of the spirit what he has said those are the feelings.
▶ 36:16 So I know you’re going to feel it you’re going to feel like this is the end of the world I’m just so bad I’m just such a zero but that’s only your feelings only you are feeling that the spirit of God is not feeling that so I hope that encourages you to just focus in on the scriptures and how God feels and not how you. Feel thank you m. Thompson. Awesome.
Scripture in this part
1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
— 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 34:28Does God care about our behavior?
Short answer: Yes; many young people don’t think God cares, but He cares what comes out of our mouth and how we act. Have the fear of God and depart from evil.
▶ 37:03 It’s important in our generation. Um our young generation right I’m kind of like in the middle I’m not part of the young generation but I’m a little bit older but uh you know our our young people today and people in my generation they don’t they don’t think that God cares about their behavior they don’t care what God thinks thinks about their behavior they think that God isn’t there they think that God doesn’t care but he does he’s watching he and these scriptures remind us of that it’s it’s Jesus talking in Revelations he’s talking to the churches I have these things against you does God have things against you you can change it you can address it you can come to Jesus he’ll forgive you of your sin whatever it is and he’ll change you and transform you um I hope somebody else is ready donna did you come and bring some okay come on up but I want to encourage us young.
▶ 38:08 People God cares about what we’re doing he cares about what comes out of our mouth he cares about how we act in this life with others so I encourage you. Please behave in a manner where you have the fear of God in you depart from evil come on. Up so this family walked in and they just make a statement there’s so many of you and such fresh beautiful faces it’s just so so fun to have you here thank you for coming so I’m I’m going to be pretty short different for me but I’m trying trying to learn to be shorter so I have a part one two three four so later on so I had this thought I’ve been um talking to my grandchildren about idioms does anyone know what an idiom is how it’s a saying that says something but it’s not really what it means like an elephant in the room doesn’t really mean there’s an elephant in the room it means there’s something big that nobody is really pointing to they’re trying to avoid.
Scripture in this part
Proverbs 16:6 (NKJV)
In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.
— Proverbs 16:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 38:08 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Is faith blind?
Short answer: A member says faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen; it is based on evidence.
▶ 39:31 Well there’s another one that had come to my mind blind faith have you ever had heard that blind faith so this is a little bit about faith um as explained in the Bible you know the scripture faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen one time I was uh with my son he’s my oldest and we were on a plane and he something came up and he said something about faith like well you know their faith or something I go but you understand that faith is more than just a magical little waving a wand or whatever you want to believe in faith has substance and faith actually produces it has evidence and he goes mom you just ruined it for.
▶ 40:32 Me he was like he hadn’t remembered that in his all the years of his teaching. But so substance and evidence are such strong words it’s the actual things that are hoped for in this life and the one to come it’s supernatural or it hasn’t happened yet or it happened before our time that we live or something hasn’t been seen with the human eye and it becomes. Reality the unseen becomes reality you can now see it that’s powerful that’s what God’s faith is about so blind faith uh on the other side of this the meaning I looked it up it’s unquestioning faith or belief in someone or something that is not supported by reason logic or evidence no evidence and it can be totally wrong totally off so we can’t just talk or think that faith is going to save us or faith is going to this or that it has to be excuse me it has to be God’s faith it has to be the right faith so there’s a great analogy or a comparison um anybody here in the medical.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
— Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:31What do blind studies show about faith?
Short answer: In a double-blind study patients given a placebo believed something not based on evidence; that is blind faith, unlike faith in God.
▶ 42:01 Field or you might go you don’t know what you’re talking about this one I looked. Up so there’s this thing called a single blind. Study uh and there’s a double blind study in medical research and it’s when a medical group is taking like a new medicine and they want to try it out so they get groups of people people so they take a group and half of the group they give this new medication or new drug to the other half they give that’s right Jim a placebo can you say that placebo what a weird word they give it they give them a placebo and all a placebo is is a sugar pill it’s like there’s nothing it’s just it’s like a fake so here’s another idiom because I’m into idioms it’s a nothing.
▶ 43:01 Burger you ever heard that one it’s a nothing burger loose looking at me crazy yeah it’s like you know there’s nothing to it doesn’t taste good doesn’t do anything. So in the double blind the researchers nor the patients know which one they were given and a blind test just the researchers know who was given what in the double blind nobody knows anything okay and they’re trying to avoid bias they’re trying to make sure that the outcome is valuable and reliable results so so they do that to get their information but then there’s this other thing called the placebo. Effect the placeo effect so this is from a medical news journal placebos are extraordinary drugs they seem to have some effect on almost every symptom known to mankind and working at least 30% up to.
▶ 44:12 60% of the patients and can also have a positive or negative. Effect. So. So so that is a great comparison to blind faith it’s they were tricked though they were kind of tricked they were told they were given something so they thought it was a new drug to help them feel better but it was not based on any evidence they believed a lie or a trick as many today are putting their faith in things that are not based on good evidence and truth so we do not have blind faith God does not ask us to have blind faith the word he says unless it is mixed with faith is not going to help us we have to mix it says the word preached did not profit them not being mixed with faith so can you say it backwards that if we don’t have take our faith and mix it with the word that it’s not going to benefit right it works both ways we get we have the word preached we mix it with faith we have faith in the word we mix it together so God has given us evidence of himself of Jesus his miracles creation our purpose for
What evidence do we have of God?
Short answer: His spoken word through nature shows His glory, and His Spirit bears witness that we are children of God; in the beginning was the Word.
▶ 45:42 life his spoken word through nature all these things are evidence of God’s glory and his reality and his spirit bears witness within us like Rita was just talking about that we are the children of God. So in first John if you think about John 1 the gospel of John in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God and then you go down and the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld him that was tangible you could touch it and that’s what first John 1:1 said the word of God what was from the beginning which we these are eyewitnesses speaking have heard which we have seen with our eyes which we have looked upon and our hands have handled of the word of life amen that’s the kind of faith that God asks us to have.
Scripture in this part
Romans 8:16 (NKJV)
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
— Romans 8:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:42 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 1:1 (NKJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
— John 1:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:42How did a member meet Christ at 12?
Short answer: At his first youth service at Carbon Canyon church, after years of children’s church, he lifted his hands at the altar call and Christ touched him.

▶ 47:26 I was in uh the Carbon Canyon church and I went to my first youth service and uh I had been taught the scriptures I had been I went to children’s church for years so I knew a lot but that night is when I met Jesus Christ and they played that song at the altar call and I lifted my hands and Christ came to me and he touched me and I wept and I came when I was on my my knees and I it was God when you and I touched the presence of God and the power of God and from that day when I read the scriptures it was different I read it knowing that Christ is real Christ is alive and when I read these scriptures I’m not just reading some baloney book I’m reading truth and it changes the way you approach God so if you’re a young person I encourage you uh or whoever wherever whatever age you are touch Jesus.
What manner of love has the Father given?
Short answer: That we should be called sons of God; when He appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
▶ 48:31 Christ it will really increase your faith and when you go to the scriptures again you’ll be like okay okay yes I’ll listen I’ll do whatever you. Say cuz it’s. Real um Jim come on. Up. I want to read out of first. John chapter 3 beginning with chapter verse one it says behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God therefore for this reason the world knoweth us not because it knew him not.
▶ 49:26 Then it says beloved now we are the sons of God a positive statement and it does not yet appear what we shall be but we know we have a knowledge beyond our own understanding that when he shall appear or make himself apparent to us we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is this is talking about John. The one that leaned on Jesus. Breast he also says in chapter same the same epistle chapter 1 verse one that that which we have from the beginning which we have heard which we have seen with our eyes which we have looked upon and our hands have handled of the word of life and it says later on for that life was manifest now be aware of the fact that but the Bible also says they he came un his own and his own knew him not it wasn’t until he was risen that he opened the disciples understanding to the scriptures and then they go oh that’s what he was saying oh that’s what he was doing but before he opened their eyes after he was resurrected they didn’t understand what he was saying but there was one in the Old Testament that saw a far off this same same.
Scripture in this part
1 John 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
— 1 John 3:1-2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 48:31What did David want in Psalm 17?
Short answer: To be satisfied when he awakes with God’s likeness; Jim says a man thousands of years before Christ wanted to be just like Him.
▶ 50:57 Thing and that Psalm 17 and this is David himself praying about God delivering him and saving him from his enemies and this is what he says is hear the right o Lord attend unto my cry give ear unto my prayer that goeth not out of [unclear] that goeth not out of feigned lips and then he said let my sentence come forth from thy presence oh God was giving him a word from his presence and he says let th eyes behold the things that are equal and then at the end of that chapter he makes a statement now this is David before Christ ever came in the flesh he made a statement he said as for.
▶ 51:50 Me I will behold thy face in. Righteousness I shall be satisfied I like to put in the word only. Satisfied when I awake with thy likeness the Bible says to be converted and changed in the likeness of Christ the character and nature of Christ here’s a man thousands of years before Christ came that had that attitude that had that desire he was only going to be satisfied when he awoke with his likeness and the Bible also says awake to righteousness. And our Christ should be awake open our eyes awaken us the Bible says awake thou that sleepest and rise from the dead that Christ would give you light and life well that’s something because he is light and he is life and there’s the attitude that David had that John had also but he wanted to be like Christ not a not a carbon.
