Success in Tragedies Part 2: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Babylon chose skilled young men of Israel’s royal line. Appearance and preparation matter. Daniel purposed not to defile himself, kept a good attitude, and God made him ten times better than Babylon’s wise men—tragedies were worth it as he took on God’s character.
Whom did the king choose?
Short answer: Children of Israel of the king’s family, without blemish, skilled—natural Israel points to the true Israel.
▶ 0:00 Daniel 1:3 the king told the eunuch to take of the children of Israel three things here of the king’s seed and of the princes okay now so we know Daniel was of the king’s seed he was a noble a family of nobility now why is all that important that we know the children but why did God say the children of Israel the king’s seed and a prince because he’s trying to teach us something are you ready to learn what are you trying to teach us okay Romans 9:6 they are not all Israel which are of Israel oh oh and the king of Babylon and took of the children of Israel but not all Israel are of Israel okay what’s the difference are you with me what’s the difference Galatians 6:5 in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision but a what new creature all right as many as walk according to this rule being a new creature peace and mercy beyond be upon them and upon the Israel of God so who are the Israel of God they that have come to Christ and he they become a what new creature that’s the
▶ 1:30 true Israel the natural Israel only points to the true Israel are you with me or am I passing you by here now Romans 2:8 he is not a Jew which is one outwardly so you got the bloodline of a Jew see the Bible says that’s not a real Jew but he is a which is what? One inwardly, circumcision of the heart in the spirit, not outwardly. So, see, when you come to Christ and you’re a new creature, you become the fulfillment of the Jew and Israelite promise. Hallelujah.
▶ 2:23 And see, the king took the children of Israel. He took the the children of Judah into captivity. Now, the king’s seat, Hebrews 8:8 and Jeremiah 31:31, “I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” Okay? We got them both right here. Hebrews expounds on the new covenant. Jeremiah initiates the new covenant. And Ezekiel 36:26, speaking of the new covenant, “A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will put my spirit within you, and you cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments and do them.” You see, we are the new creatures where God is working with. He’s in us.
▶ 3:13 He lives in us. He’s working with us, in us, with us, for us, and causing us to convicting us to do right. It’s not a mental thing. I mean, it’s not only a mental thing. God is working with us. Isn’t that powerful? Yeah. Revelations 5:10, “God has made us unto our God kings and priests.” All. Daniel was a prince. What are we? Kings and priests. Unto who? Our God. Why? Because we’re a child of the king. Revelation 17:14, the lamb is Lord of Lord and king of kings and we are a child of the king that makes us a prince. That makes us a noble.
▶ 4:07 A family of the king. And see, that’s why they’re attacking Christianity. When you really believe in Christ and you’re following Christ, they don’t like you. They want to destroy any source from God and the Bible of right and wrong. And so, they’re after you. Are you there? Hallelujah. Let’s continue. Verse four. Young men with no blemish. That means physically or morally. Now, which is more important? Morally. Which one do we want the most? Physically. We want the chicks to look at us.
▶ 5:01 And we want the boys to desire us. But morally is the key. Character is the key. And so, they weren’t looking for just anybody to stand in the king’s palace. They were looking for someone who had morals. This is an evil king looking for people who had morals. You know why? Because if he picks bad people, they’re going to kill him and overthrow the throne. He needs somebody that will do right. Even though he’s wrong. Are you there? Are you that kind of a Christian? You’re a child of the king. You’re a children of Israel. You are a spiritual Jew. You are a prince in God. Are you working on your moral standard?
▶ 6:00 Good appearance. Daniel used deodorant, brushed his teeth, and combed his hair. Are you there? And I washed his hair every day. Some people don’t wash their hair a week or two at a time. My goodness, you got cooties growing in there. Smells. Scared to death to use deodorant. Scared to death to wash their clothes. The hippies when I became a minister, man, they were totally object they rejected washing clothes, you know. They wore Levi’s until they’d stand straight up and they took them off. They were so dirty. I would say. But Daniel had good appearance. How many of you know we need a good appearance to those around us? If we look like the world, what we’re not getting their attention, are we?
Scripture in this part
Daniel 1:3-4 (NKJV)
Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans.
— Daniel 1:3-4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:00Does appearance matter?
Short answer: Yes—he cites education statistics showing many unprepared.
▶ 6:57 So, appearance matters. People say, “Well, God looks you know, man looks at the outward, God looks on the heart.” Because man looks at the outward, you got to get your act together. Amen. He was gifted in all wisdom, and this is a thorough word for wisdom. He had talent in war, talent in administration, talent in religious affairs and understanding, and talent in moral principles. Wow. How many of you raise your hand and say, “Lord, I I I need a dose of that.” Yes. See, Daniel wasn’t wasting his time when he was growing up. Even with a siege going on and everybody around him rejecting God and everything else, Daniel spent his time preparing.
▶ 7:54 Training himself. And the king saw these attributes in him and his friends. And so him and his friends were not the dropout of society even though they had every excuse to be. These guys hung in there. And they trained and got morally good and mentally good and spiritually good. Now folks, that’s good preaching. You’re only going to get out of God what time you put into him. Now, also they had knowledge and they get quick understanding. An ability to serve in the king’s palace.
▶ 8:47 The goal was they had to serve in the king’s palace. Stand before the king. Whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. They were teachable. Are you teachable? Are you stuck in your mom and dad’s religion? Are you stuck in your church’s religion? Are you stuck in your own ways or are you teachable? These guys were teachable from 9 years old till they went into captivity and they were teachable when they went into captivity. Hallelujah. How many know we need a teachable spirit.
▶ 9:47 45% of Americans drop out of high school. 15% get their GED. So, at least 30% without any kind of high school diploma. The main reason is they got no support at home, encouragement to go to school. Number two reason is alcohol and drugs and outward influence, their peers. And all partying and all that. And number three is a boring curriculum. You know, I have known for years that young men and young women growing up to maturity don’t need to be stuck into some social high school going over a bunch of nothing. They need to be learning a job skill and things that they can earn money on.
▶ 10:42 They’re they’re growing up, they’re making a transition, but yet we’ve been locked into this stupid mentality since Dewey came along. And we haven’t changed it and you can’t change it because of the teachers union. They’re so powerful and so strong, you can’t break through. Uh you may disagree with me, but you do your studying. Colleges, 65% drop out of community college, colleges and tech schools. 65% And colleges have made the first and second year of college so easy so they can get enrollments. They get enrollments, they get money. And so, kids go into college the first and second year, they’re just kind of repeating high school stuff.
▶ 11:36 We just keep wasting our kids’ time when we just need to get them in there and teach them a skill. Could I get an amen? But Daniel and them stuck in there no matter what. 80% of unwed mothers are illiterate. 40% of our children are growing up in a single-parent family, mostly women. And 80% of unwed mothers are illiterate and 70% of those incarcerated, arrested are illiterate. You know, 25% of high school graduates in America cannot pass a military test to get in the military.
▶ 12:32 That’s one out of four. 20% of high school graduates in America cannot test high enough on the reading proficiency test. And yet they got a diploma. Folks, is there something wrong? Yeah. Now Daniel purposed not to defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat or wine. Now, what does that mean? Well, as we’ve been as we’ve learned before, there are shadow laws and there are civil laws and then there are spiritual laws. They were not in the shadow laws eat anything that was defiled.
▶ 13:23 Catfish, uh eagles, uh camels, you know, certain kind of animals, not because these animals were bad for you, but to teach them to live righteously. You understand? And they were taught not to eat any kind of food sacrificed to another God and idol. So, obviously, Daniel is keeping the shadow law because this food that they were being fed evidently had been offered to idols, or it was a catfish or an eagle or some animal that they weren’t supposed to eat of, even though it was a shadow law. It was a minor thing. Daniel kept it. A minor thing. Are you with me? They weren’t asking him to commit adultery.
▶ 14:17 They weren’t asking him to steal. They were asking him to eat something that his God said, “No. That’s an illustration of unrighteousness. I don’t want you doing that.” And Daniel kept the little thing. Didn’t Jesus say, “They that keep the least of these commandments”? Didn’t he say that? Yeah. Hallelujah. So, Daniel purposed not to defile himself. Now, what was his reward? What was his reward? Daniel 1, we love rewards. Daniel 1:15. Daniel told the keeper of the eunuchs that, “Hey, test us for 10 days, and we’ll just eat vegetables.
What did Daniel purpose?
Short answer: Not to defile himself—a good attitude even in little things.
▶ 15:10 Uh, we’ll eat things that we can eat. And uh, you see if we have gone weak or whatever, and then, you know, we’ll eat what you give us, cuz we don’t want to endanger your life. And this is what the guy told him. If you don’t eat and show yourself healthy and a good appearance, I’m the one’s going to die. And so Daniel says, “Listen, we don’t want you dying even for shadow law principles.” You check the character here? Are you with me? See, a shadow law is nothing. It’s the real laws that count. And yet he said, “You know, we’re not wanting you to die. You give us 10 days, and if it doesn’t work out, then we’ll eat what you We don’t want you dying.” How many Boy, us, we’ve go, “Uh, let’s go.
▶ 16:04 I ain’t doing it.” We don’t care about that the guy going to die. Do you see the character there? This Daniel’s got character, folks. He cares about others. And this is his enemy. This is the one the one of the guys that brought him into captivity, castrated him, made him a slave, and took away his freedom. And yet, he cares so much for him that he doesn’t want him to die for some principle of God. Ah, man, that’s character. Are you Are you out there? And so sure enough, after 10 days, they were better and fatter, healthier in flesh than all those that eat the portion of the king’s meat. See, God come in and honored his principle.
▶ 17:01 And the keeper of the eunuchs got to live, and Daniel didn’t have to defile himself. God backed it up. Now, you want health? Follow God, even the least of the commandments. Grab a hold of them. Now, here’s the real deal, the reward. Verse 17, God gave all three of them knowledge, skill and learning and wisdom, and I already defined these things for you. All of them had knowledge and skill and learning and wisdom. 10 times better than the rest of it. But Daniel had understanding in all visions and all dreams. Now, see, he didn’t have this before.
▶ 17:55 It’s when he purposed to keep a good attitude, when he purposed even in a little thing to obey God, then he got He didn’t come out of Judah with dreams and visions. He got it when he showed his commitment to God. Are you there, church? Yeah. Now, what are dreams and visions? Nothing but the goals and the objectives of God. Remember, folks, God said, “I do nothing unless I first reveal it to my prophets.” See, God has goals.
▶ 18:53 God has objectives. You know, these people that come in and say, “Oh, I saw a a vision of Jesus coming through the wall, and he was 4 ft off the ground, and he was, you know, 10 ft tall and all that.” What am I supposed to do? Cartwheels? What’s the message? What’s the goal? What’s the word of God? Oh, man, I’m driving down the road and I picked up this guy and and and I’m going down the road and I look over and he’s gone. He just disappeared. I had an angel. Oh, whoopee. What am I supposed to do? Speak in tongues? What was the message? What was the goal? What was the objective? I think you’re just having nightmares. Are you there?
▶ 19:48 And I especially in the spirit a spirit-filled people, you know, we we want to get into the visions and dreams and we we we come up with nothing. And we get all hyped up about nothing. No message is in it. No objective is in it. No prophet is in it, but we saw something. One preacher was saying, “Boy, he wanted to see an angel.” And and then he heard it coming up the steps or something and uh he got so scared. He said, “No, no, forget it.” I went, “What what what What is all that about?” Amen. Now he got it. He hadn’t had one yet, but he’s got it. He hadn’t had any interpretation of visions and dreams yet, but he’s got it. And it’s 10 times better than the magicians and the astrologers and we will get into those next week.
Scripture in this part
Daniel 1:8 (NKJV)
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
— Daniel 1:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:10Daniel 1:12 (NKJV)
“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
— Daniel 1:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:10What was the result?
Short answer: Ten times better than all the magicians—you take on His character; tragedies are worth it.
▶ 20:43 10 times better. How many of you know the scriptures and the Holy Ghost are a thousand times better than the world’s? Yes. Hallelujah. And how many of you know there’s coming a day like a Solomon they come to hear the wisdom of Solomon that God put in his heart? How many of you know there’s a day coming when God is going to touch the church and the people are going to come to the church because of the wisdom that God has put in the church. Hallelujah. But we’ve got to first get some character. We got to make some commitments. Now, the last thing For this reason stood they before the king. The last reward is they got to stand before the king.
▶ 21:38 They got to be in the presence of the king. Now, remember, it’s for our learning. Are you ready? Remember, we’re children of the king. Who is the king? Jesus Christ. Watch this now. The dreams and the visions weren’t anything. And the knowledge and the understanding and the wisdom was nothing compared to being accepted into the presence of the king. Hebrews 10:16. This is the covenant, says the Lord, that I will make with the house of Israel. I will put my laws in their hearts and minds. Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Where there is a remission of these sins and iniquities, there’s no more offering for them.
▶ 22:33 Having therefore boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus by a new and living way, let us draw near to that presence, to that king with a true heart and full assurance of faith. Are you hearing me? The holy of holies is where God dwelled in the Old Testament. God’s presence was there. And Jesus is inviting us into his presence. And he may give us wisdom, and he may give us understanding, and you know, he may give us a gift of tongues and interpretation, but the real reward is being able to come into his presence, because when you come into his presence, you take on his nature.
▶ 23:31 You take on his character. Isn’t that beautiful? Hallelujah. Is tragedies worth it? Is difficulties worth it? To be able to have a responsive heart and stand before the presence of Jesus, not only in that world to come, but now. In this day and hour. Hallelujah. Now, how many of you know it’s him we need? And listen to this. This is the new covenant. Watch what it goes on here. Let us consider one another to provoke one another to love and to good works. Why?
▶ 24:23 Cuz we want our brothers and sisters to be able to come into his presence. And how does he say to do that? Forsaking not the assembling of yourselves together, even the more so as you see the day coming. Why does one of the main reasons God wants us to come together? So we can grow. And we should be here to encourage people to live right and to do good. Isn’t that what it says? A church service should be about teaching that encourages us to live right, to do good, and to do good works. When we talk to each other, it should be encouraging one another to do good and to do good works. And when we testify, we should be testifying about something, man, I had this problem, but God worked it in my life and now I don’t have that problem anymore.
▶ 25:16 I am good in this area. That encourages people. But we come for concerts, entertainment, to be flattered about how great we are because we’re Christians. When God wants us to come together and said, you can handle difficulties, you can handle tragedies. Come on, brother, you can get through this. Come on, sister, you can get through this. Yes, this is the difficulty. Yes, this is the tragedy, but let’s keep our focus on Jesus. Let’s go into his presence and let’s come out victorious. Hallelujah. Revelation 7:9, a great multitude no man could number of all nations.
▶ 26:14 That’s why I refused to believe that Russia was the bad boy in the ‘70s going to come down to Israel and circle Israel and kill all the Israelites and and they condemned Russia to hell. And I go, no way. God doesn’t do that. He says out of every nation, kindred, languages, people, stood before the throne and before the lamb. See, in the next life, where we going to stay be standing before? Before King Jesus. Literally, not just in in experience today where we feel His presence, but literally there. And how many? A number that can’t be numbered. Is the blood of Christ powerful enough to do what Christ intended it to do?
▶ 27:11 Absolutely. And we can come in by that blood into His presence now. And when we go there, we will stand before Him, literally. They were clothed with white robes, palms in their hands, and they cried with a loud voice saying, “Salvation unto the Lamb.” And then in verse 14, He tells us who these people are. Watch this. These are they which came out of what? What kind of tribulation? And they’re wanting us to escape it? Their robes washed and made white in the blood of the Lamb. Now, folks, if He can fulfill that in heaven, isn’t the prayer of Jesus, “Let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven?” Can we have God move now and while we’re in the earth and bring the earthly part of this fulfillment and also get the inheritance when we pass on and go to heaven?
