Tongues and prophecy must come from the Spirit, in proportion to the word. God places each member—apostles, prophets, teachers, helps, governments—and not all have the same role. Covet the best gifts and let the Holy Ghost nudge you into contributing.

What about diverse kinds of tongues?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: Different kinds—but self-initiated babble isn’t the Spirit; gifts build the church.

▶ 0:00 And to another of a different kind. This is a different level. Diverse kinds of tongues. How many kinds of tongues? Different kinds. Okay. There’s three mentioned in the Bible. The unknown tongue, which could be the angel’s tongue. Then there’s tongues of angels. And then there’s tongues of this earth. You didn’t know the language, but the Holy Ghost used you to speak the language because he wanted to convict the sinner that’s there. Tongues are for the unbeliever. And when tongues are done right, I tell you, I’ve been it’s powerful. Even if there’s no interpretation, you can feel the power of God fill the air when they’re speaking in that heavenly language. We may not understand what they’re saying, but that presence of God backs it up. And when they’re not speaking, ain’t no presence backing up anything.

▶ 0:57 It’s just shaka moola moola moola mo. I’m on a tongue talk. It’s myself that’s speaking. Nothing. It’s why it isn’t initiated by the Holy Ghost and it isn’t have an effect by the Holy Ghost. It’s just a worthless time in the service. But when the interpretation comes, then it’s really powerful. Hallelujah. So there’s nine expressions of gifts, services, and effects. Okay. Here’s another list of gifts in Romans 12:6. Heaven then gifts differing. Here it is. The variety differing according to the grace that is given to us whether prophecy let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith.

How do we prophesy and serve?

▶ Watch this part (1:54)

Short answer: In proportion to faith and the word; if you serve, serve; teach, don’t just read a book; give with simplicity, show mercy with cheerfulness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 1:54 So we know these are not offices that these are gifts these are manifestations that build the church up because it depends on something you’ve done you’ve grown. You have understanding. You sought God. And when you have the offices of prophet, his faith has nothing to do with it. When Isaiah prophesied of Christ coming, God didn’t ask him, “Do you believe this?” God just said, “Say this.” Got it? That’s the office of a prophet. These other areas of prophecy is totally different. So we know the proportion is the amount, the percent, the quantity of your faith and faith comes by hearing the word.

▶ 2:45 So it’s in proportion to what you know of the word. This is not the office of a prophet. A prophet doesn’t have to know beans about the word and God just speaks through them and they’re never wrong. So this is quite a lower place of prophecy. You understand that church? And then according to the proportion of our faith ministry, well, if you’re going to serve, serve. Don’t stand there and talk about it. Serve. Can I hear an amen? And wait on our is not in the scripture. In the King James, it’s going to say wait on hour. It’s not there. You’re not waiting on anything. The manifestation of the spirit is there. And if you’re going to serve, get to serving.

▶ 3:40 And if you don’t want to serve, just say, “I’m a taker, man. I’m a taker.” It’s like my dog at home. That dog’s worthless. Doesn’t give the family anything. Just takes the food. I have to pick up the poop. My boys don’t even pick up the Gosh almighty. Their dog. I Ah, it’s just a taker. I have to brush the dumb thing. I mean, who’s the smart one here? The dog. Yeah. And I keep looking at him. I SAY, “YOU’RE A TAKER.” How many going to stop being a taker? That means you’re going to be a server. Find something to do and get to doing it. You don’t have to brag about it. Just do it. He that teaches on teaching.

▶ 4:35 Okay? If you’re going to teach, teach. And don’t get a book, open it, and read page by page out of it, and call that teaching. You should know what’s in that book. You should know what you’re going to say. And I’ll hit the teachers in a minute. He that exhorts on exertation, that means your comfort. You build, you encourage people. A very important, very important expression in the house of God. Most of us just criticize. That’s all we do. But the exhorter comforts, encourages, see, builds people up. They come to church for a purpose. And remember Paul says these things are for how many people?

▶ 5:27 Oh, see, you don’t have to be some special thing. You come to Christ, you are a candidate to be used of God. He that gives with simplicity, you know, don’t flash your $100 bill around. Just wad it up like you did your dollar bill a year ago and put it in the offering. You know, we give a dollar bill, we squish it up, fold it up, but we’re going to give a hundred. It’s just keep it simple, stupid. He that rules with diligent. You want to be a leader, then put some work into it. Leading is hard work. It’s just a job description. I don’t know anybody in their right mind would want to be a pastor of a church. If God hasn’t called you, it’s just a big job.

▶ 6:22 YOU WORK YOUR BUTT OFF. That’s the bottom line. One year I had to work. A person, a teacher in the school got cancer and the church couldn’t afford to give them money or anything. So I just took their place and worked and let them draw the salary. One of the hardest years of my life. 10 months. I already had a full plate to begin with as pastor and I had to go home and be a husband and a father and then I had to do this person’s job. But I knew that if something hadn’t taken place, it was going to disrupt their home. And I didn’t feel that, you know, I I didn’t want their home disrupted. Those kids, uh, that was really going to put them in a bad place. And it was one of the hardest years of my life.

▶ 7:13 I’m telling you, it was tough, but I got through it. And uh you know, when you show mercy, you do it with cheerfulness. And I think this is about the second time I’ve shared that with anybody. You know, you just do it. You’re thankful you can do it. You’re thankful that you’re not dying of cancer and you there’s something you can do. Hallelujah. Okay, now this is important. Who decides the distribution of the gifts, the ministries, and the operations? Who decides who gets what? And I’ve seen churches, you know, okay, come up tonight. We’re going to impart to you spiritual gifts. Man, I’m going, what?

▶ 8:05 Ain’t nobody going to impart nothing to you if the spirit’s not involved. It ain’t going to happen. Remember, I taught a message on it doesn’t happen till it happens. It’s exactly what I’m talking about. You see, I tried to be an evangelist when I was first saved because, you know, man, that Yeah. Win souls. I mean, I got good at I could win souls. I took a soul-winning class. I mean, I went door todoor. I went to jails. I was everywhere preaching the gospel, getting souls saved and everything else. And then God stopped me like Paul on the road to Damascus and said, “Hey, look at all these people you got saved. Where are they?” I said, “I have no idea. I just got them saved. Hallelujah.” He said, “Well, you better get an idea, boy. These people need to grow.” I go, “Grow?

Scripture (NKJV)

Romans 12:6-8 (NKJV)

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

— Romans 12:6-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:54

Who places us?

▶ Watch this part (9:01)

Short answer: God—it’s not just about getting into heaven; find His will; win a husband by behavior; prepare for your role.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 9:01 Man, I thought it was all about just getting into heaven. And he turned me around and made me. He said, “I’m going to make you a pastor. I’m going to make you a teacher of my word. I am going to make you one that can mature people, cause them to grow, and it’s going to take a lot of work, fella.” And I said, “No problem. Whatever it is, Lord, just sock it to me.” I didn’t know what I said right then. I wished I could have taken it back. And we won’t get into that. But let me go. God decides. I’m trying to be an evangelist and it’s working because the word works. But God had to get me out of my mentality and into his equip me to do what he wanted to do. That’s just a simple illustration. Verse 11.

▶ 9:54 The same spirit works all these things. It works how many things? We got to get the human element out of this and we got to get the spirit into it. A prophecy must be initiated by the spirit. Healings must be initiated by the spirit. Miracles must be initiated by the spirit. Tongues and interpretation must be what? Initiated by the spirit. You can’t get emotionally worked up in Shakamula and say hallelujah. IT’S GOT TO BE THE Holy Ghost. Can I hear an amen? He gives and distributes as he wills. Well, I want to be a prophet. Well, if it’s not God’s will, you ain’t never going to prophesy.

▶ 10:47 I want to be an evangel. If it’s not his will, you ain’t never going to be an evangelist. We need to find the will of God and the spirit will initiate it and confirm it and express it. Can I hear an amen? This should be a big relief for a lot of you. Verse 18, God has set the members, each one of them in the body just as. He pleased. You see, Mary, the mother of Jesus, did no recorded miracles regardless of what the Catholics say. All right? She prophesied once. Once she birthed Jesus, raised some other sons and daughters, took care of her husband. How many of you know she was in the high calling of God for her?

▶ 11:42 Yeah. See, when you do what God wants to express through you, you’re in. You don’t have to line up with anybody and you don’t have to make it happen. Acts 14:3, God granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. Who granted it? God. You see, then Paul sent out handkerchiefs and pieces of his apron and demons were cast out and and sick people were healed. Why? Because the Holy Ghost initiated it. And the Holy Ghost backed it up. And in the Pentecostal charismatic circle, we have prayer cloths. I mean, women put their prayer cloths underneath the husband’s head. You know what? When they sleep at night under his pillow so they get saved or so they come from a spiritual man. I mean, they’re all caught up in this nonsense, not understanding if the spirit didn’t initiate it, the spirit didn’t ask it to be done, it’s worthless.

▶ 12:43 That’s right. And the best way to win that husband, Paul said, is by your behavior. He said, “Don’t preach at him. Live the life.” Isn’t that what Peter and Paul both said? Oh, God forbid I got to do that. Give me the hanky, man. Give me the prayer cloth. Verses 12- 24, he talks about the body of Christ being a min many many membered body. And we already talked about that. The body of Christ is the church. It has many members. Okay? And God put you into the body as he desires. And if he just made you an usher, then usher up, man. If he made you a singer, then sing up. Be prepared. Hallelujah.

▶ 13:36 If he made you a children’s church worker, then you got to prepare. You got to have something to say. It ain’t because you got a heart for children. That doesn’t work in the kingdom. You got to be anointed of the Holy Ghost. YOU GOT TO BE INSPIRED BY the Holy Ghost to be effective. IT TAKES THE GHOST. That’s right. But I have such a heart for children. So what? I know a lot of women out there got a heart for their kids and they they’re destroying them. Hallelujah. I had a guy over in Carbon Canyon, real fine man, and he loved to teach and he wanted to teach youth and kids, and he couldn’t teach his way. H couldn’t teach an anthill how to walk in line. And the Bible says they automatically do it.

▶ 14:30 He would mess them up. And how do you tell someone, you know, we appreciate your heart and he’s an excellent man, but you know, you just can’t do this. You’re killing the kids. We can’t kill the kids every Sunday because you want to teach. And that’s a pastor’s job. We got to go do the tough stuff. Everybody gives me and Mr. Barnes all the tough things to confront. They don’t want to confront anybody. They would rather everybody suffer than confront the one who’s creating the suffering. Are you with me, church? He says, “Let there be no divisions.” Here’s this word again. He’s hammering on no division. This is his third time bringing it up. And what is the American church full of?

What has God set in the church?

▶ Watch this part (15:23)

Short answer: Apostles, prophets, teachers, miracles, healings, helps, governments—prophetesses too; the office of prophet vs prophecy in the body.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 15:23 Division. Say it. Division. You guys are divided. You have your own opinions and your own little things and you know you got your own little clicks. And when we say amen, you’re going to go to your little click. And Paul’s saying there shouldn’t be any clicks. Everywhere I go, I tell them there’s not a Bible for the blacks and a Bible for the Asians and a Bible for the Mexicans and a Bible for the white. There is one book. There’s not a female Bible and a male Bible. There’s one Bible and we got to get along in it. True. Now God organizes the church. The order of gifts. Here’s his order.

▶ 16:17 God has set some in the church. First first in rank is apostles. And and there were only 15 apostles in the New Testament, man. We must have 15 million in the world right now. Everybody in their uncle’s an apostle. Back there there were millions of believers. And how many apostles? 15. If you take Judas off, who was the traitor, the betrayer, and called to be that, you got 14. FOR MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, THERE’S 14 APOSTLES. You get the hint? Yeah. Second, in order is what? Prophets. And people tell me women can’t preach. Women can’t be pastors.

▶ 17:10 And in the Bible, there’s prophetesses in the Old Testament. There’s prophetesses in the New Testament. Anna was a prophetess in the New Testament. Steven’s four daughters were propheticistes. Now, how are they going to prophesy if they got to shut up in the church? And this is second in rank. Are you there? And then Acts chapter 2 says, “On your sons and your daughters, I will pour out my spirit and they shall prophesy.” Say it. Prophesy. How’s that going to be fulfilled if women can’t talk? And we’ll get and clear that up. That’s coming up. Thirdly, now you understand there’s three kinds of prophets, don’t you?

▶ 18:01 There is the office of a prophet like Isaiah, Jeremiah. When they speak to the Holy Ghost, let me tell you, it’s God talking. David was called a prophet and he messed up. He committed adultery and he killed an innocent person. But when God spoke through him, that was God talking. When God speaks, it doesn’t matter what kind of character you got. It’s the word of God. Are you there? Agabus was a prophet in the New Testament. And two of his prophecies are recorded and they both come to pass. And people say prophets are not for today. They’re lying to you. We need the real thing though. You know a prophet by their word comes to pass. Anything other than that, forget them.

▶ 18:56 The second area of prophecy is setting in the body of Christ. That’s a very limited area of prophecy and they miss a lot. And they’ve been really missing in the last 10 years. I don’t know what’s going on. God’s backing off or something. And then the third area as I told you is the prophecy for edification, exhortation and comfort. And we can all prophesy one by one. That way we can let God use us. All right? So you need to understand these things. Teachers, there’s three kinds of teachers. Did you know that? There’s the office of a teacher. I mean, man, when they get through teaching the word, you understand it. It’s like a arrow hitting the bull’s eyee. And then there’s teachers. 10,000 teachers of Christ. Everybody’s talking about Christ. They scatter gun d. They don’t hit anything.

▶ 19:47 I mean, enough enough bullets go out to hit something. Are you there? And there’s one thing we can all do is we can teach Christ crucified. We can all do that. And then there is a teacher that can teach like a high school teacher, a professor teacher, uh your military teachers, uh people have the ability to teach, but it’s the office of a teacher that’s third. After that, miracles. Fourthly, miracles. Miracles way down the line. And what does Pentecostals really lean on? Miracles. Man, we got a top top dog. Word of wisdom was number one over there and the gifts of the spirit and we got tongues as a top dog. Then gifts of healings. Healings are different than miracles.

▶ 20:39 Helps. Here it is again. We need a lot of what? Helps. Servants, governments, leaders. We need leaders. Everything you do in the church has got to have a leader getting it organized and following up and getting it done. And diversity is a tongues. There it is again. Three kinds of tongues. That’s the order of importance. And when we only settle for tongues, we are missing out on some tremendous expressions of God. I’m just letting that sink in. Luke 6:13, he called to him his disciples and chose 12 whom he called what?

How many apostles?

▶ Watch this part (21:35)

Short answer: He counts 14 or 15; John the Baptist did no miracles yet was the greatest prophet.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 21:35 Apostles. He took 12 disciples and he chose to make them apostles. And he gave them power over unclean spirits to heal all manner of sickness and diseases. And the names of the twelve apostles are. And he went through the list. My point is this. Before the Holy Ghost was poured out, the apostles had authority to cast out demons and heal the sick. They did not need the baptism of the Holy Ghost to do those things. They were given authority. And this is where us Pentecostals are wrong. A lot of our brethrens in other areas of the church, Methodists, Presbyterians, and so forth, can touch God and be used of God, even though we have turned them off from the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

▶ 22:29 Are you there? John the Baptist, did he do any miracles? No. And yet, there’s no greater prophet, Jesus said, than John the Baptist. Now, we got to get these things in its order and in its place. Are you understanding these things? This is important because this is the kind of church this church is designed to be. We’re not designed to be a social church. We didn’t design ourselves to come in and have the the the accepted music of the generation so we get people in and and flatter people. We are designed to be a New Testament service church. Right. And we saw today that every one of us can be a candidate to be used of God. I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes, and some of them you shall kill and crucify.

▶ 23:30 Thus says the wisdom of God. Same same kind of same topic in Luke 11:49. I will send them prophets, apostles. He changed the wise men to prophets. I mean apostles or he added, “And God says he’s going to send us apostles. He’s going to send us wise men. He’s going to send us prophets. And he’s going to send us teachers.” See, four things that were already mentioned in God’s order of the church. And then we want to say it’s not for today. Now, this is where the fundamentalists are messing people up when they say they’re not for today. And Jesus said, “What? I’m going to send them. You’re going to go against Jesus.” I don’t think so.

▶ 24:27 And church, we got to believe and we got to seek for these things. And we got to let the spirit ignite it and do the performing. We can’t conjure it up. Are you with me? And you got to stop saying I’m not worthy like was spoken earlier. Don’t talk like that. It’s that Holy Ghost that makes the difference in our life. See, if God could use King David as messed up as he was, then he can use us. Can that be an amen? But we got to come And we got to seek this stuff and and find this stuff. Here are some enlightening questions and enlightening challenges. You ready to be challenged? You ready to be enlightened? Watch what Paul says.

Are all apostles?

▶ Watch this part (25:22)

Short answer: No—but covet the best gifts; the Holy Ghost will nudge you; be an active contributor.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 25:22 Watch how he ends this. Are all apostles? No. We only found what? 14 15 if we count Judas are all prophets. No, there were only 14 prophets in in the New Testament. About the same as apostles are all workers of miracles. Look around you. Ain’t none of us doing any miracles? Do all speak with tongues? And here is where the Pentecostals miss it. They say that tongues is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. And nowhere in the Bible does it say that. And Paul said, “Do all speak with tongues.” The truth is we don’t.

▶ 26:18 But we can still have the baptism of the Holy Ghost by any manifestation that he chooses to move in us with. Can I hear an amen? Because it’s the Holy Ghost that initiates it. Do all interpret? I grew up in the Assembly of God church and I never heard a tongue interpreted. Same with the church of God. I never heard a tongue interpreted. They just shakamul. They have what I would call tongue talking tournaments. No interpretations. So there’s no understanding. And Paul’s trying to get us to understand that we were dumb spiritually and he wants to make us smart spiritually. Amen. And he wants us to understand that everything God does is he initiates it and he confirms it by results. And if he’s not initiating it, leave it alone.

▶ 27:12 You don’t have to push into anything. The Holy Ghost will nudge you. He will speak to you. He will get you, move you, encourage you to do something. You don’t have to work it up. Can I hear an amen? But we don’t want to become like the Methodists and Presbyterians and these other churches that say it’s not for today. When Jesus said, “I will send you apostles, prophets, teachers, and wise men.” It is for today because an apostle has to have signs following to be an apostle. And I’ve saw many healings, young people, young believers, real ones. I’ve seen a lot of phony, but I’ve also seen a real thing. I’ve seen tongues spoken that just exploded. A congregation of a thousand people backed up by the Holy Ghost.

▶ 28:06 And I saw the interpretation of that just really explode in that congregation when the per interpretation came and then the person from Africa said that was my language and this is what they said and this is why he did what he did. Man, that makes a believer out of you. Are you there? Prophecies are great, especially edification, exhortation, and comfort. Judgment prophecies, critical prophecies, I wouldn’t give you five cents for. We already know how bad we are. How many raise your hands? I already know how bad I am. Yeah, I need to know how good I can be. Hallelujah. These things are for us. And then he says this, covet.

▶ 28:59 Now, here is where you can covet and get away with it. Remember, there’s one area you can test God in. Anybody know what that is? Tithes and offerings. You can test God. Any other area you can’t test God here? You can covet and be scripturally sound. All right. Covet the what? The best gifts earnestly, sincerely. So, there are gifts better than what? Others, aren’t there? There are gifts more important than other gifts, aren’t there? And he’s going to tell us what these best gifts are coming up. And he says, I’m going to show you a more excellent way. I’m going to show you how to get the gifts. I’m going to show you how to get the manifestation of the spirit working in your services. Revelations 21:7, he that overcomes will inherit what?

▶ 29:54 See, it’s not just eternal life. God wants you to have wisdom and knowledge. He wants you to be an active contributor in the church. This is part of your inheritance. And this is where many churches are robbing God’s people. This is part of your inheritance. And he says we are joint hes with Christ in Romans 8:17. Joint hes means whatever Christ was given is given unto me. The wisdom, the righteousness, the knowledge, the flow of the Holy Ghost. And if you want to be one that says, “Lord, I want my full inheritance and you really mean it. I want to get out of the baby stage. I want to get out of the eternal life club and I want to get in to the growing Christian walk with God and be effective in my home and be effective in the church. Will you stand with me as we sing?
