Love is the whole package. Paul tells believers to relax and abide where called, to stay as they are or marry without sin, to live with the time being short, and to make amends rather than sin. Jesus had brothers and sisters, and married ministers served well.

What about outward adorning?

▶ Watch this part (0:01)

Short answer: Not just hair and jewelry—love is more than sex; it’s the whole package.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 0:01 He goes on to say, ‘ Don’t let your adorning, your outward adorning, just be the hair, jewelry, clothing, you know, just don’t look good for your husband and husband just don’t look good for your wife. You know, sex is not all there is to a marriage. Sex is part of a marriage. You know, I love it when my wife says cancer. She said that to me today. Cancer. You know, just the companionship, the talk, the raising your kids and watching them grow up in the ways of God. It’s, you know, supplying the needs of the home. She works her butts off for these guys. I told her, I said, “Man, you’re doing such a good job. They’re never going to want to leave this house. All these good meals.” She cooks meals that are out of sight.

▶ 0:56 Always coming up with new stuff. [clears. And see that’s marriage. Throat] See love is more than sex. See it’s the whole package. Hallelujah. And uh Paul is hitting it very clearly. He says let it be the behavior the meek and quiet spirit which is in the sight of God a what? Great price. Now verse 17. As God has distributed to or called every man. So, let him walk. He’s saying stay where you’re saved. All right? You’ve been invited into the kingdom. You’ve been invited into salvation. Relax and stay in the conditions that you were saved in. He’s talking not talking about sin. He’s talking about difficult circumstances.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Peter 3:3-4 (NKJV)

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Should we change our station?

▶ Watch this part (1:47)

Short answer: Relax—circumcised or not, slave or free, abide with God; if you can be free, do so; he says Obama was wrong that the Bible permits slavery.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 1:47 Are he’s going to explain it. Are you ready? [clears throat] He’s he’s trying to teach us to relax. Whether you’re called circumcised, a Jew, or whether you’re called uncircumcised, a non-Jew, they’re both nothing. Nothing means nothing. You uncircumcised don’t have any more freedom than us circumcised have. We’re all free in Christ’s blood. Isn’t that a good statement? He says, “It’s the keeping of the commandments that’s something.” See, it’s that lifestyle. It’s that behavior. He goes on to say, “A slave or free.” They had slaves back then. He says, “If you’re a slave, don’t be concerned about it. And if you’re a free man, don’t be concerned about it.

▶ 2:40 But if but if you’re a slave that you might be made free, do so.” And see, Obama was wrong when he said the Bible permits slavery. The Bible never, even in the Old Testament, they don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know how to explain those scriptures, right? And here is another scripture that God forbids what? Slavery. If you can get out of slavery, you get out of it. Okay? But if you’re there and there’s nothing you can do, keep a good attitude in it, but work toward what? Being free. Are you with me? So, see, the New Testament does not permit slavery either. For [clears throat] a servant, a slave is the Lord’s free man. And likewise, he that is free is Christ’s slave or servant.

▶ 3:33 You are bought with a price. Do not be servants or slaves of men. Let every man wherein he is called abide with God. See, whether you’re circumcised, not circumcised, slave, or free, he’s got their attention on the big stuff. Now, he brings in virgins. Now, concerning virgins, but what is his topic? Stay where you are, say. What condition you’re in, remain in. Relax. Have a good attitude. Amen. Now, I have no commandment about virgins, yet I give my judgment. See, I don’t have a law about virgins. And there isn’t any. I’ve read that Bible 120 times. Paul is really doing us a great service here by explaining things that the law has not explained.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 7:17-24 (NKJV)

But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches. Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called. Were you called while a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather use it. For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called while free is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.

— 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:47

What is Paul’s judgment on virgins?

▶ Watch this part (4:35)

Short answer: Stay as you are—but if you marry you have not sinned.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 4:35 Hallelujah. I’m going [clears to give my judgment. Throat] You hear everybody saying, “Judge not lest you be not judged.” Paul’s always given us his judgment. He’s always He’s not afraid to make a judgment, is he? Hallelujah. Anyway, I suppose therefore that this is good for the present necessity or the present need, [clears the present throat] want, the present requirement that is affected by external conditions, by duty, the law of duty in regarding to one’s advantage, custom argument. It’s a very complicated word, but he’s saying the present necessity requirement that you’re in.

▶ 5:29 You see, you’re a virgin. It [clears throat] is a good for a man. What? So to be in the present condition you’re in, just what? Stay there. You may have a need, but stay there. More on his opinion. If you are bound to a wife, seek not to be loose. See, he’s saying stay in the condition you’re in. If you’re loose from a wife, seek not a wife. Relax. Don’t put pressure on you. And what are people doing in America? They’re going on to uh e-harmony.com and running to bars and all these places trying to find a man.

▶ 6:21 They’ll even go to a church because there’s a lot of men there. He says, “Relax. If you marry, you have not sinned. If a virgin Mary, she has not sinned. Yet such shall have trouble in the flesh. And I want to spare you.” Why does he say if they get married they’ll have trouble in the flesh? Because if they marry the wrong person, that person is going to want them to do things against the Christian lifestyle and wanting to please them. They’re going to start compromising their lifestyle and give in to drinking, drugs, partying, barring, [clears all these throat] things that God doesn’t want us to do.

▶ 7:17 And he’s going to prove his point. Okay? Are you with me? And even a believer, see, a believer can still be a sinner. When a believer hasn’t made a decision to become a disciple yet, you’re in trouble because they may make a decision to stay a baby all their life and you’re going to have a life of hell on earth because babies basically do what they want. But a disciple doesn’t. Are you with me? And see, people get married before they hear about Christ or come to Christ and then they wind up with what? They’re a believer and their spouse is still a what? Unbeliever. And so he’s trying to explain how to approach all that. Isn’t this good? So that everybody’s free and everybody can live with a good conscience.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 7:25-28 (NKJV)

Now concerning virgins: I have no commandment from the Lord; yet I give judgment as one whom the Lord in His mercy has made trustworthy. I suppose therefore that this is good because of the present distress—that it is good for a man to remain as he is: Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be loosed. Are you loosed from a wife? Do not seek a wife. But even if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Nevertheless such will have trouble in the flesh, but I would spare you.

— 1 Corinthians 7:25-28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:35

What attitude should we have?

▶ Watch this part (8:13)

Short answer: The time is short—live normal, use the world without abusing it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 8:13 [clears throat] He goes on to talk about the right attitude. He says, “The time is short. It remains that both they that have wives be as though they had none.” The time is short. He’s talking about the second coming. And we showed you over and over in Matthew when and Luke where Jesus said, “Always be alert and watch because you don’t know when your servant comes. Don’t live a life of drinking and partying and mistreating his people.” And so Paul is using that same mentality. See, if we’re looking for the coming of Christ, then it should affect our lifestyle is what he’s saying. So he says, because we’re looking for Christ’s coming and this world changing its fashion, he said, then those of you that have wives, live like you had none.

▶ 9:04 In other words, and [clears throat] he’s going to explain this more, live that lifestyle. Use that power of God. Use that self-control. Use that gift. [clears throat] And you know, don’t go overboard with marriage. They that weep as though they weep not. You go through difficult times, don’t make a big issue out of it. Keep a good attitude in it. You know, you’re going through unpleasant times. He said, don’t belabor it and don’t get extreme in it. You know, act like there’s no problem there. I mean, know that’s an attitude. This is good stuff, folks. I pray you get this because it can really set you free. He says, “They that rejoice as though they were rejoicing.

▶ 9:58 Everything’s going good for you. No problems or anything else.” Well, don’t get extreme in it. Just live normal. Just live like everything’s normal. He says, “They that buy as they that possess not. You got money to buy things and oh, you’re going to show off your new car to everybody and you’re going to show off your new clothes and you know this and that and your big screen TV and all the rest.” He said, “Don’t do that. Get things and act like you don’t have them.” Wow. And in other words, if you don’t have them, relax in that, too. Not having things is not the end of the world. Keep a good attitude. The guy with the big screen just has a bigger electric bill.

▶ 10:56 And they that use this world, you know, the world system, you know, you get up in the morning and you go to bed at night, you work through the day, you eat, you know, you go to the bathroom, uh you have a time of leisure. All the world’s system, he says, don’t abuse it. Just use it. Keep it in a balanced place. Leisure, work, fa, family, God. Keep it all balanced. How many you know that’s good preaching? You know, some people, boy, they meet Christ and they just want to stay so spiritual, you can’t stand them anymore, you know, and some people don’t want anything to do with spirituality and you can’t stand them because they have a temper problem, a tongue problem, and everything else. Are you with me? He’s saying stay moderate. Stay in the middle for the fashion of this world is passing away.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 7:29-31 (NKJV)

But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

Who cares for the things of the Lord?

▶ Watch this part (11:52)

Short answer: The unmarried; the married care to please a spouse—marry wrong and you’ll be pulled from your Christian life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 11:52 But I would [clears throat] not have you without carefulness caution. I’m going to give you some caution. All right. Now, here’s the key. He that is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may what? Please the Lord. Okay. He’s using a metaphor here. He’s using an illustration that a single person isn’t distracted by a spouse to do wrong so they can focus on what? Pleasing the Lord. Now, can the married do that? Absolutely. But he’s following his his approach trying to show us and get the message across. He that is married cares for the things that are of the world. How he may what? Pleases wife. So if that wife wants to smirk marijuana, the pressure is on her to what?

▶ 12:44 Smoke marijuana. She wants to drink beer and, you know, have the guys over for Monday night football, she wants to drink beer. See, are you with me? That’s the trouble in the flesh that he wants to spare us from. He’s trying to tell us to be single is better to hang in there with the gift, with self-control until you find that person in the Lord that wants to live together, caring for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord. Are you there? Now see, my kids know if I love my wife by how I treat her they.

▶ 13:36 Know if I love Jesus by how I treat him. That’s the bottom line. If I don’t give time to Christ and show forth his character in my life, what does it tell them? I don’t love God at all. He’s just a convenient thing for me at a convenient time. Because if I really love him, I will live a life to please him. Isn’t that right? And who knows if I can save my unbelieving spouse, my unbelieving children, my unbelieving parents, my unbelieving neighbors by my what? Behavior. Say the word behavior. And remember, Paul put the behavior above the word, didn’t he?

▶ 14:28 Or Peter did. He said, “You don’t have to use a lot of words. You can win them by your behavior.”. Now, he goes on to say the same thing between a virgin and a wife. I mean, a wife and a virgin. Yeah. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord to be what? Holy in body and in spirit. See, if my spirit doesn’t come out in the body, what good does that do my children? If my spirit doesn’t come out in my body, what good does that do my wife? I’m going out on her I’m down at Joe’s bar drinking with the guys. You know, I’m left her all to raise children, everything by herself and squander the money on on sport gambling and whatever. What good? So, so I come into church and and and I get in the presence of God and I feel happy, you know?

▶ 15:23 But my point is this. If we really got it in the spirit, it should come out in our lifestyle, holy, righteous. But she that is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. See, he’s back to that. If you’re in the wrong marriage, you’re going to try to please some lukewarm Christian, some unbeliever, and it’s going to cost you if you compromise their possible salvation, your kids’ possible salvation, and others because you are going to have trouble in the flesh and you don’t overcome it with self-control, gift of God, [clears it’s going to have bad results.

▶ 16:14 Throat] Is he clear? You got it. Is this good? Absolutely. I speak for your prophet, not that I may cast a snare up on you. He said, I’m not trapp trying to trap you. I’m not trying to catch you in anything and one of these gotcha things, but for that which is honorable. That you may attend on the Lord without what? Distraction. What’s his whole goal? That you serve God without being distracted by your unsaved husband, by your baby wife, by your unsaved children or rebellious children. You don’t get distracted. You keep serving God because in it, your lifestyle, your behavior can win them in the end. Now folks, I think that is just powerful stuff.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 7:32-35 (NKJV)

But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord—how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares about the things of the world—how he may please his wife. There is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world—how she may please her husband. And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.

What if a man behaves uncomely toward his virgin?

▶ Watch this part (17:15)

Short answer: Make amends and get married—it’s not the end of the world; Paul gives permission, not a snare.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 17:15 But if any man think that he behaves himself uncommonly, disgracefully toward his virgin, now catch this. Watch this closely. Here’s a powerful Revelation. Okay, this guy is betrolled. He’s seeing a girl back there. They betrod. They, you know, they connected people to get married and they would visit each other and so forth. But he’s done something disgracefully. He’s put his hand where he shouldn’t have put his hand. They’ve done things that they maybe shouldn’t have done. Fondled. You know, [clears he said, “You’ve behaved throat] disgracefully.” Are you with me? You got that part? You should. Most of you here have gone through this stuff. All If right. She’s passed the flower age, she’s 20 years old, she’s mature, she’s reached womanhood.

▶ 18:13 And need so require. This word need is make amends for the wrong you’ve done. You you have a need to correct the mistake. All right? And require means get it done. Okay, you’ve behaved disgracefully. Both of you have been fondling, been doing things that you shouldn’t have done. And and and you know, you’ve come to your senses. And he said, you need to make amends and you need to get it done. He says, “Let him do what he will.” And what is the solution? Let them marry. You have not sinned. You’re just reacting to something naturally that God has put in you. But you know, get it right and what?

▶ 19:07 Get married. You know, that’s why when young couples come to me and they said, “Oh man, we messed up.” You know, and I said, “Relax here. It’s not the end of the world. You haven’t exactly sinned here. We just got to make some adjustments. Stay in a crowd. Don’t be alone. Get married. You know, we can handle this. Isn’t that what Paul’s saying? Yes. And I haven’t preached this, but maybe once before, because I was always concerned that people would use this to be permissive, but I’ve always used it in counseling to set people free. You know, the masturbation and all the rest that goes along with this stuff while you’re waiting to get married. There is such bondage in the Christian world because preachers don’t understand what Paul is saying.

▶ 20:10 They just pass on their church’s doctrine without even thinking and they put a load on people that they can’t handle and they finally just quit. Why? Why try? So you know masturbation and these thoughts and these fantasies and you know losing control and uh fondling it happens you know whatever but the key says hey get it adjusted and what get married there now folks I don’t know about you but that was very liberating because the church had a lot of things on such a guilt trip. That people could did not live up to it. And preachers did not know the word to help people and set them free. They just passed on what the books told them in the Christian bookstore.

▶ 21:03 But I always told you Paul is the better author than any of them. Do you agree with me today? Isn’t this permissive? He has given permission to give his opinion really helpful to us. Absolutely. It’s really helpful. However, he that stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but he has, read this, power over his own will, say it, power over his own will. I’ve told you over and over and over that the baptism of the Holy Ghost is not a baptism of tongues. It’s not a baptism of prophecy. It’s a baptism of what? Of what? You shall receive. Power.

▶ 21:56 And this is what I experienced when I got filled with the Holy Ghost. And I did speak in tongues. But it was the power and the love that changed my life. And he has so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virginity. His virgin is they don’t have a word there that means his virginity. So they use his virgin. A person, a woman that you know hasn’t had sex yet. But it’s really talking about his he’s going to keep his what? Virginity. How many know men can have be virgins too? Yeah. He does well. And how does he do well? Because he has what? Power over his will. What’s will? Your desires. Your feelings, you have power.

▶ 22:49 So, he gives us a gift. He gives us self-control. And now, he gives us what? Power to handle the condition we’re in until the condition is changed,. Folks. That’s hot stuff. And God has the authority to give what he promised. He’s not a worthless God who just wrote stuff and can’t back it up. He backs it up. But you got to accept the gift. You got to work on self-control. And you got to accept the power to control your desires. Whether it be your tongue lashing out like it shouldn’t or sexual immorality or whatever. The baptism of the Holy Ghost. I told you I highly recommend it because it’s power to live a life that’s pleasing to Christ.

▶ 23:49 Hallelujah. So then he that gives her virginity in marriage does well, but he that gives her virginity not in marriage does better. Why? Because they’re containing until that one in the Lord comes along. He says, you know, Mary, but Mary in the Lord. Mary’s someone that’s following the Lord. Are you with me? [clears throat]. The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives. But if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will. Only in the law. See, she can’t just marry anybody. She’s wise if she marries someone that’s going to live a life pleasing to the Lord. Good stuff.

▶ 24:43 Most people I know do not understand this chapter at all. And I’m looking at a lot of them. But I tell you that Holy Ghost, I’ve told you many times that Holy Ghost gives you the understanding of God’s nature before you have the scriptures to back it up. You just know that’s God. That’s not God’s nature because you know him. You can’t always explain why you do certain things or you don’t do certain things. You just know that’s what he wouldn’t do and he would do. And later as you get into the word and the Holy Spirit opens your eyes, you understand and get confirmation from the scriptures that what you were taught in the Holy Ghost was confirmed in the word and the word is above the ghost.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 7:36-38 (NKJV)

But if any man thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, if she is past the flower of youth, and thus it must be, let him do what he wishes. He does not sin; let them marry. Nevertheless he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power over his own will, and has so determined in his heart that he will keep his virgin, does well. So then he who gives her in marriage does well, but he who does not give her in marriage does better.

Did Jesus have brothers?

▶ Watch this part (25:43)

Short answer: Yes—James, Joses, Judah and Simon, and sisters; married ministers were as successful as Paul.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 25:43 Hallelujah. See, that’s why we have such a mess in the American church today. We got too many people with their own opinions without permission. [clears But she is throat] happier if she also abides after my judgment. I think I also have the spirit of God. And uh how many agree he’s enlightening us by the spirit of God? Yes. Absolutely. Beautiful. Now in 1 Corinthians 9:5, we have no right or do we not have a right to take along a believing wife as do other apostles. The other apostles were married and when they traveled they took their wives with them.

▶ 26:36 The brothers of the Lord. Jesus had four brothers and some sisters. Unlike the Catholic Church teaches that Mary stayed a virgin all of her life. That is a very horrible lying doctor. Mary did not stay a virgin all of her life. She had sexual relationships plainly in the Bible after Jesus was born and she had children. Jesus had four brothers and sisters. And the Catholics will say, well, the word brother means relative. And it is a Jewish word for brother or relative. But what do you do about the sisters? There’s only one word for sister in the Greek here, and that’s sister. [clears throat] Okay. Mark 6:3.

▶ 27:28 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joseph’s, and Judah, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? Also, Galatians 1:19. But other of the apostles saw I none except James, the Lord’s brother. That’s specific to James. Catholics are very wrong. And Catholics, people are very wrong for following that because then they elevate Mary up to something she is not. And then they worship her and I love my Catholic friends, but they’re totally wrong here. We should worship only Jesus. Ain’t that what it said in Revelations when he tried to worship the angel talking to him?

▶ 28:21 He said, “Don’t worship me. Worship Jesus.” Hallelujah. Adore Jesus. And so my point is this. These married ministers were just as successful as Paul. Isn’t that right? Peter, Barnabas, James, John. See, they were all married. They traveled with their wives and they were just as successful. So, what is Paul trying to teach us? He’s trying to teach us [clears throat] to hang in there in any situation we are in. There’s nothing wrong with being unmarried. You’re not a secondass citizen. There’s nothing wrong with being married. You’re not a secondass citizen.

▶ 29:12 But if you’re married to the wrong person, you’re going to have trouble in the flesh. Why? Because they’re going to try to get you to do things against your Christian lifestyle. Drink, take drugs, smoke, to smoke marijuana, smoke cigarettes, all these things that are not a good example to your children and the ones you’re living around. Isn’t that right? Sexual immorality, anger, violence. But if you’re in that kind of situation, he says, “Hang in there because you don’t know if you’re going to get them saved by your lifestyle. Hang in there if you can. You know, if they’re beating you up and and you know, there’s debauchery going on and and you’re the slave, then yeah, God’s call you to peace, you can remove yourself from that.

▶ 30:14 See, he’s trying to give us freedom to think and do what’s right. And you know, it’s not good for your kids to grow up with a dad that’s drinking and taking drugs and and doing bad things because what they see dad doing, they think is okay. So somewhere the innocent person has to be what? Protected. And who’s the innocent person in the marriage? The children. They don’t know right and wrong yet. They are counting on the parents.
