Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
A walk through revival in Scripture: the spiritually dead made alive, Lazarus called out, the contrite revived, Jacob revived from pain, and the woman who pressed in to touch Jesus. Revival comes through the word, praise and repentance. It must be genuine, not used to promote a man, and God still visits individuals and families while we wait for Him to visit the vine.
What does revival mean in Scripture?
Short answer: You have come to Mount Zion; you were dead in trespasses, and He made you alive together with Him.
▶ 0:05 We want to welcome all of our visitors thank you for joining us this morning welcome God bless you and I’m going to say it again you have come to mount Zion the city of the living. God we are God’s people amen and it’s powerful when we assemble together and God can come and do a mighty work in your life and I want to get everybody’s name but we’ll wait till afterwards but welcome good to have. Everybody we’re going to look quickly at the scriptures here I think uh she’s passed out or there’s a sheets if you’d like to follow along this morning we’re going to be talking about uh revival the words revival the the way it’s used in the scriptures in Colossians chapter 2:13 it says you being dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh he has made alive together with him having forgiven all your trespasses.
Scripture in this part
Colossians 2:13 (NKJV)
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
— Colossians 2:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:05Can the spiritually dead come back?
Short answer: This my son was dead and is alive again; you can be completely flatline dead and God can bring you back.
▶ 1:09 Luke 15:24 it says for this my son was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found and they began to be merry so first of all in Colossians Paul is. Saying here that you can be dead in your spiritual man you can be dead and trespasses in sin and also in the story of the prodigal son when the prodical son returned and came back to his father his father said my son was what. Dead but now he’s what. Alive and that’s what Christ wants to do in us he wants to bring us back to life. And uh this is specifically talking about those who have sinned have rejected God like the prodical son he went and he lived wildly he rejected his father’s words he took from his father his uh portion and went and spent it all but when he came back there was great rejoicing.
Scripture in this part
Luke 15:24 (NKJV)
for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
— Luke 15:24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:09What does Lazarus teach the church?
Short answer: Jesus called him out; the church must call people out of darkness and then loose them and let them go.
▶ 2:24 Amen and that’s just showing the power of God you can be dead spiritually completely flatline dead and God can bring you back to life John 11:43 Jesus cried with a loud voice and he said Lazarus come forth and he who died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes and his face was wrapped with a cloth Jesus said to them loose him and let him. Go so when we are habitually sinting we make it a habit it is a habit for us to sin reject God’s word we are dead in trespasses and in sins but Jesus said no problem why is it no problem because I can call you out from your deadness I can resurrect.
▶ 3:18 You and the church must be a place where we bring Christ to call people out of their darkness we want the church to to be a source of revival and lastly it says here loose him and let him go there’s still going to be some things even after you’re called from darkness even after you’re resurrected you still need to be loosed from some things it’s not going to happen right away and don’t give up on. Yourself you know and he called to it says he told them who’s them that’s the church. Loose him and let him go we have a responsibility as the church come in get loosed from those things that are bringing you.

John 11:43-44 (NKJV)
Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
— John 11:43-44 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:24Whom does God revive?

▶ 4:14 Down Isaiah chapter 57:15 the high and lofty one who inhabits eternity whose name is holy I dwell in the high and holy place with him who has a contrite and humble spirit to what revive the spirit of who the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones so not only does God care about those who are dead in trespasses and sins but he cares about those who are humble those who are contrite those in the church who are living for God and he wants to revive us he wants to renew us amen are you a person with a humble spirit I hope so I want to be counted that number right and if you are God wants to revive.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV)
For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
— Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:14Ezekiel 37:14 (NKJV)
I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it and performed it,” says the LORD.’ ”
— Ezekiel 37:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:04Why do Christians need reviving?
Short answer: Battling darkness is tiring work, like recovering after giving birth; Christians must make disciples, since sheep beget sheep.
▶ 5:05 You Ezekiel chapter 37:14 I will put my spirit in you and you shall live he’s talking about his people so it’s not just for the world out there it’s for his people. Also and when you’re involved in the house of God and you’re battling darkness it takes work if you ever watch miss woods when you come in on Sunday she’s working. She’s doing stuff and it can be. Tiring and just like this woman here she just gave birth and I watched three of my kids be. Born and after it takes probably over a month two months to recover from that you have to it takes time to recover and it’s not a bad thing that she did she bore a child and that’s a wonderful thing but it’s still something has happened where you need to recover and Christ wants to revive you and it’s important for us Christians to get involved in the birthing process I heard it said before that sheep beget sheep it’s important for Christians to make disciples.
Can God revive us from pain?
Short answer: Jacob’s spirit revived when he heard Joseph was alive; young people can avoid self-caused pain from laziness, drugs, alcohol and sexual immorality.
▶ 6:20 Amen. Simple revival from pain uh j. Jacob it says here in Genesis 45:27 the spirit of Jacob their father revived and what you want to remember is that. Joseph his brothers Joseph’s brothers came to Jacob and said your son has been killed and they brought his coat of many colors and they put blood on it they lied to their father and they came to Jacob and said your son is. Dead and Jacob he yearned for his son he was in pain he didn’t do anything to cause the pain and that may happen in your life divorce loss of a job death in your family death of a child disease in your life and more you may have not caused it but it happened and Christ wants to bring revival even to those.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 45:27 (NKJV)
But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived.
— Genesis 45:27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:20What did the woman with the issue of blood do?
Short answer: She came and touched His garment; come out of your house and make an effort, and He can heal the broken heart and the body.
▶ 7:30 Who have pain in their life and we can also cause pain in our life young people I want you to remember you have some choices to make now to keep yourself from pain there’s some wise choices you can make as a young po person to keep yourself from going through a bunch of pain that you cause yourself I encourage you learn what those things are. You can cause pain in your life by being lazy on the job by doing getting intoxicated with drugs and alcohol you can cause pain in your life by living a sexually immoral. Life and young people if you go down that road there’s going to be a consequence for those. Behaviors Mark 5 verse 25 a woman who had a flow of blood for 12 years had suffered many things from many physicians as we stated earlier when she heard about Jesus she came behind in the crowd and touched his garment and I’m highlighting he she came because it’s important for us to come it’s important for us to go get out of our homes it’s important for us to come to Christ and make an effort.
▶ 8:51 And she touched his garment so not only did she come to the crowd she also went a step further and touched his gar garment and that’s what we must remember first of all come out of your house come to the assembly of God or if you’re during the week you can get on your knees find a place where you are coming to God you’re you’re you’re you’re taking time out for him and then you’ve got to reach out and touch him and that doesn’t mean you physically reach out your hand it means open up your mouth invite him with your words the scriptures say the kingdom of God is near you even in your mouth the kingdom of God is within. You it’s there you can wake up at your house or in a jail or on an island and you can meet with.
▶ 9:54 God so don’t waste your opportunity every day. To meet with the master immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was. Healed and what I’m pointing out right now is that Christ he can heal the broken heart he can heal the body he can heal it as if nothing ever happened this woman was made whole you see some pictures of here some uh you know sex trafficking is happening to children there’s a lot of stuff happening in right in America right now that is very harmful to young people and when God meets these young people and they’ve grown what what is he going to do he can bring healing to their life and that is the point Jesus Christ is the healer and we must bring people to him the power of his word and the power of his presence people can be delivered just like this woman was delivered Psalms 11993 I will never forget your precepts for by them you have revived me and given me life it says specifically here his precepts his word his law his truth have what revived me the word of God is
Scripture in this part
Mark 5:25-29 (NKJV)
Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.
— Mark 5:25-29 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:30Is the word a source of revival?
Short answer: Yes, for sinner and Christian; and when singers praised as one, the house was filled with God’s presence.
▶ 11:24 a source of revival the word of God is a source of revival whether you’re a sinner whether you’re a Christian whether you’re his people the the word of God the living word is powerful Hebrews 4:12 the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged. Sword 2 Chronicles chapter 5 when the trumpeters and singers were as one praising the Lord the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud of God’s presence.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
— Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:242 Chronicles 5:13-14 (NKJV)
indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
— 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:24How do we get into His presence?
Short answer: Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; fast, pray and put His word in you.
▶ 11:59 Psalms 100:4 enter his gates with thanksgiving and in his courts with praise uh and his presence is there is you got to get through the gates and you got to get in his courts to get into what his presence and that’s why we encourage you to than give God thanks to give him praise so you can go through the doors if you sit back on the outside and you uh keep your distance from God that’s your you that’s the action you’re taking you’re keeping your distance from God you know the song said if you knew him like I know him uh if you can know him like I know him you can go through the gates you can go into the courts and you can go where he is and let him transform you but this is your choice.
Scripture in this part
Psalm 100:4 (NKJV)
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
— Psalm 100:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:59Why doesn’t God just save everyone?
Short answer: He chose for us to be witnesses: go and make disciples of all nations.
▶ 12:57 You’ve got to give him thanks you got to praise him you can fast you can pray you can put his word in you get God close to your life Matthew 28:19 go and make disciples of all nations we know this is a very well-known scripture baptizing them in the name of the father son Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things I’ve commanded Acts 1:8 you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses to me to the end of the earth and I’m saying a lot here but the point is that God uses his people God uses his people yes you sitting in the chair yes me.
▶ 13:59 God wants to use us that’s his process you know God could snap his finger God could speak a word and he could just save everybody and he could do uh everything all and we wouldn’t have to do anything but that’s not the way he chose he chose for us to be witnesses he chose that we need to go out and make disciples there is something that happens to us when we go and do this there is a growth that happens happens there is a a a work that happens in our life see we can’t just stay you know beli in God up in the sky keep our distance and wait till we die no that is not the method you want to take keep don’t keep your distance from. God he wants to use you Romans chapter 10:14 how shall they hear without a preacher there’s got to be someone who says something there’s got to be someone who you know there’s a a lot of there’s a lot of jobs in the church that have to be done every joint supplies amen and but God is using his people we want to be that river of life that comes from his throne.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
— Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:57What is impostor revival?
Short answer: Like ransomware and fake login sites, it takes funds to support a man’s opinion or program; we want God’s genuine move. America is deep in enabling sin.
▶ 15:14 And when it comes to revival we want a genuine. Revival uh recently somebody I was talking to mentioned that first American insurance company which is a very large insurance company that handles title insurance they were. Hacked and uh they basically took their information encrypted it and held them ransom it’s called ransomware there’s another website the california fair plan. Website was hacked and when you went to the website and clicked on a link to log in it took you to another. Website and you would put put in your password and they would take your password and they they were they acted as.
▶ 16:07 Impostors and we don’t. Want we want to know h uh we don’t want the impo impostor. Revival where funds are taken to support somebody’s. Opinion and their style or their program we want God’s style we want a genuine move from him we want his style we want his truth we want his power backing up his program his program oh that’s like it stuff yeah I just got that right now the united states of America is deep in accepting approving promoting and enabling sin in our country theft sexual sin intoxication that God is going to move.
What should we avoid when God moves?
Short answer: Channeling it to promote a man or woman or drawing attention to ourselves.
▶ 17:01 Again but while we are waiting we need to get with the program the revival we can find revival in his what his living word and his presence we don’t want to channel the move of God to promoting a man or a woman we don’t want to do something when he comes that draws attention to ourself we want to keep the church a place of healing deliverance and renewal of the mind not just a friends. Group remember how Christ defines the church we are mount. Zion the city of the living God it is so powerful when God sets the definition we don’t want to change that you know there is fellowship yes and that’s part of it but the main go goal is to come to.
How do times of refreshing come?
Short answer: Repent and be converted; keep repenting, as the prideful disciples did.
▶ 18:01 God to meet with. God. Amen Acts 3:19 repent be converted that your sins may be blotted out so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so we’re reminded first of all to keep repenting when Jesus called you out of dead ness like he called Lazarus you have to keep repenting you oh man look at I got I still got a piece on me I got to get that off and it comes back like how did that get there you got to keep loosen you got to keep repenting you got to keep going at it repent and be converted the disciples had to keep. Repenting you know Peter denied Christ you remember that that’s that’s a big you that’s.
▶ 19:03 Wrong the disciples did many things James and John they wanted to be you know the best you know we want to be sitting at the I want the the highest position in your kingdom. Jesus they had. Pride but Christ is saying that we can. Repent and that he’ll bring times of refreshing and it comes from where it says from the presence of the Lord and that’s why it’s so important this morning we took some time for his presence to come and that’s very important that time of refreshing renewal is God’s presence coming and renewing us and we need that and if you’ve never experienced it before I encourage you it is. Lifechanging and when we come in that is our goal here to meet with God to experience his presence and also to hear his word John chapter 3:8 the wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes God comes in and you cannot you can’t see it you can’t see God you know some people they’re like where what are you guys doing coming into this place and you’re singing to the air what are you doing.
Scripture in this part
Acts 3:19 (NKJV)
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
— Acts 3:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:01Can you see the Spirit?
Short answer: Like the wind you can’t see it, but you can see its effects.
▶ 20:30 You’re praying to the who who you praying. To we’re praying to the king of kings and the Lord of lords and like the wind you may not be able to see it but you can see the effects and the power of it and we want that wind the spirit of God you can tell when a tree is is bent over something is happening up there and you’re outside and something is hitting your face I can’t see it but the wind is hitting me and that’s the way God. Is without the wind those clouds would never come over and rain on the earth so we’re very thankful for the wind. Amen some examples of revival revival in families in acts chap 16: 13 on the Sabbath day we went to the riverside where prayer was customarily made and Lydia who worshiped God heard us and the Lord opened her heart to heed the things that were spoken by Paul and she and her whole household were baptized this woman she was searching for God she would pray c uh every week she would go down and pray and she would worship.
How did Lydia receive the word?
Short answer: God opened her heart to heed Paul, so don’t neglect assembling consistently.
▶ 22:02 God and it says that God opened up her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul so God is opening up her understanding to his word very important and this woman is is coming to God’s house that’s why it’s important you know don’t look down on on on assembling on a consistent basis and the house of God you don’t know who’s going to arrive you don’t know when God’s going to open up your heart and open up your mind to his word and it will transform you and this woman she was so she she was so changed by God’s word that she and her whole household were baptized this is a Gentile woman she’s not a Jew maybe I’m I’m sorry maybe I’m wrong she and her whole household were baptized she was.
Scripture in this part
Acts 16:14 (NKJV)
Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.
— Acts 16:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:02Why did Philippi turn on Paul and Silas?
Short answer: It hit the owners’ income. If revival cut alcohol and drug sales in half, companies would take the holy rollers to court.
▶ 22:59 Changed after meeting with Lydia Paul and Silas were jailed for casting out a demon from a fortune-telling slave girl and her owners realized their hope of making money was gone they seized Paul and Silas and these men they said these men are Jews and they’re throwing our city into an uproar by advocating customs unlawful for us I bring this up because today in America people are always saying oh I don’t care what you believe as long you can do whatever you want well everybody has their beliefs and you you have your beliefs and I have my beliefs but that’s what their motto was these owners you know but once it affected their source of income once it affected their money they changed their mouth.
Scripture in this part
Acts 16:19-21 (NKJV)
But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities. And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.”
— Acts 16:19-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:59Does God revive individuals?
Short answer: Yes; scales fell from Saul’s eyes; God may not move across California, but He still moves in individuals and families.
▶ 23:53 And if a move of God comes and all all of a sudden the market for alcohol and drugs gets cut in half how many you know people are not going to be happy about that the companies are going to be like I have to lay off half of my employee uh these things are unlawful these customs who are these Christians these holy rollers going to take them to. Court why because it’s affecting their money but we’ve got to keep pressing forward and stick to the truth Jesus Christ in his word just don’t be surprised Acts chapter 9 on his way to Damascus Saul had an encounter with Christ and Saul was left blind after this encounter in Damascus a disciple came named Ananias and he laid hands on Saul and something like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight and he was baptized he immediately began preaching about Jesus Jesus in the synagogues of Damascus and so God brought revival to the individual and it’s very important for us to understand that at Vine Cluster Church God may not be moving throughout the state of california or the country of America but God can still and still does move in the individual
▶ 25:24 and he will still move in the family and he will still move with his word and his presence and his power and while we are waiting for him to move and visit we can bring the presence the word of God to the individuals and to the family to any group that wants to hear. It. Amen it’s important we got to get serious. It’s very important for us not to lose our focus not to give. Up God can still do something in us and use us. Today the last scripture I want to bring up.
Scripture in this part
Acts 9:17-20 (NKJV)
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus. Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.
— Acts 9:17-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:53Will God visit us?
Short answer: Joseph said God will surely visit you; when He does, don’t direct it toward men. Visit this vine.
▶ 26:23 Here Genesis 50:24. Joseph said to his brethren I am dying but God will surely visit. You if you don’t know Joseph in the Old Testament is an illustration and an example of Jesus. Christ Joseph be was second in command and he brought. Deliverance from the famine that came and Jesus Christ he is at the right hand of the father. Father and he brought deliverance by his blood by his death on the cross and Joseph said I am dying but God will surely visit you and Jesus said to his disciples I have to go and I have to. Die but he also said that God will s the the promise of my father will be sent to you God will visit you and everything that Jesus said came to.
▶ 27:29 Pass but I want to emphasize this morning the statement God will surely visit you he will visit. Us and when he does visit us don’t direct his visitation toward. Men. Don’t bring the attention on. You. I heard it said that he God is dying to visit. Us he longs to visit. Us and we need to get a hunger for him to visit we can’t be satisfied with this status.
▶ 28:23 Quo Psalms 80:14 return we beseech you oh God of hosts look down from heaven and see and visit this. Vine it says in the scripture that Jesus in the vine but we are also part of him. Amen visit this vine we want God to visit us again I encourage you this. Morning we need to get back to the presence and power of God. Paul said that I bring a demonstration of the power of God amen we need to get back to his living. Word and that whatever state you’re in we got to respond if you’ve been a Christian for 30 years it’s time to respond if you’ve been a Christian for one year it’s time to respond whatever it is that God is wanting to you wanting you to respond to if he wants you to repent respond if he wants you to beget sheep it’s time to respond.

Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; Look down from heaven and see, And visit this vine
— Psalm 80:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:23How does the service respond?
Short answer: Kneeling at the chairs and singing for a hunger for His visitation, then praying for the church across the country.
▶ 29:33 Amen so I’d like to invite you to stand with. About this transcript
This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added from the speaker’s pauses and then corrected by hand, and obvious caption errors (names, Bible references) were fixed; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: The captions read “Psalms 104” for “enter His gates”; treated as a caption error for Psalm 100:4. The recording puts the message first and a worship set after it (~47:42); kept in recording order. Select any time to jump to that moment on YouTube.
