Revelations of the King’s Wife: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
In this message a guest speaker at Vine Cluster Church reads Esther 1–2 as a picture of the old and new covenants. He says Queen Vashti, who refused the king, pictures both Israel under the old covenant and a refusing church today, while Esther pictures the new wife who asks how to please the King. He closes by describing the church as the bride of Christ who makes herself ready, and an invitation to accept Jesus.
Did Queen Vashti take “the first stand for women’s rights”?
Short answer: He says a writer in the 1800s claimed Vashti’s refusal was “the first stand for woman’s rights,” but he says “there’s a much better understanding here” and he will “throw it out.” He says the first two chapters of Esther are really about the church.
▶ 0:01 And we’re going to be talking about queen Vashti if you guys remember her she is in Esther when when ester became queen of Persia the queen before her was queen Vashti and Harriet Beecher Stowe who is a writer in the 1800s she wrote about queen Vashti saying that her acts were the first stand for woman’s rights because she stood up to the king and said no I will not come before. You and she writes this is Harriet [unclear] she writes that the decree that was made throughout all the land to respect your husbands was ancient simplic you know ancient. Simplicity now this story can be read that way but I want us to understand this morning you see Esther has 11 chapters or more I can’t remember I’m sorry 13 maybe and the first two tell a story that is so important it talks about the church and this morning we want to understand that meaning this morning so we’re going to take Harriet Beecher Stowe’s understanding and throw it.
Who does the king in the book of Esther picture, and who is invited to his feast?
Short answer: He says “Christ is king,” so the king in these chapters is talking “about king Jesus Christ,” not “everything he did him getting drunk and all that.” He says the king invited “both unto great and small,” so “the king was inviting everybody.”
▶ 1:17 Out there’s a much better understanding here of the story of Vashti and Esther and that’s what we want to learn so this morning we want to learn what is the meaning of Vashti’s acts and what is how do they apply to the church and what is what is the meaning of Esther’s acts and what she did what are the meaning and how do they apply to the. Church and as you know if you read the Esther story it starts out with the king he’s making a feast and first he has a feast with his nobles and his princes and his the higher-ups and he has a feast with them for you know over 100 days this is a long time for a feast and he’s showing them all of his glory all of his power and everything about his kingdom and when you guys when we read this you got to remember that Christ is king of the king of the kingdom of heaven and we’ve got to remember that he wants to show his glory to the whole world so in on these first two chapters when you read about the king [unclear] I can’t pronounce it right or it’s later it says Xerxes and you know I don’t when we read about this king it’s talking.
▶ 2:41 About king Jesus Christ now not everything he did him getting drunk and all that but let’s let’s take a look he made a feast first to his princes and then he made a feast another one for seven days unto all the people people that were present at the palace so anybody around Shushan where his palace was were welcome to come to this feast it says both unto great and small meaning the rich the poor the outcast the in you know whoever you were it didn’t matter the king was inviting everybody and that’s important to understand you see this terminology you hear in the New Testament does anybody hear that this morning this terminology is this bring to your memers the feasts.

Esther 1:9 (NKJV)
Queen Vashti also made a feast for the women in the royal palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.
— Esther 1:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:33Why did the king call Vashti to come with the royal crown? Did he want her naked?
Short answer: He says some claim the king wanted her to “get naked,” but he disagrees: the king asked for “your crown” and “your best dress” because “he wanted to show the people… her beauty.” He says the king had provided everything for her, so “this is my wife and she is awesome.”
▶ 3:34 Yes and it’s going to last for 7. Days and we find in Esther chapter 1:9 that Esther also is having a feast along with the king and she is inviting only the women in the royal house so this is. Exclusive this is only for a certain group of women and it’s only for a certain. Place and in Esther 1:11 the the great story here or this is where it all starts queen Vashti was called before the the king with crown royal and you got to understand you know you read this and some people say that they wanted her to perform and get naked and all that but he’s saying I I want you to come with your crown I want you to come with your your best your best dress your best looking apparel your crown not naked I want to show you off to my.
▶ 4:49 Kingdom so I I disagree there I think that he was just asking her to come in cuz she’s beautiful with her clothes on and wanted to show her off he wanted to show the people in the princess her beauty everybody say beauty beauty for she was fair to look on all right does that mean she’s getting naked. No she’s just beautiful and the king is proud of this woman this is you know he he’s taking care of her he’s in the she’s in the royal house whose house is the royal house is it V— no, it’s the king the king built that house the king has provided a place for her the king has fed her the king is the one that made preparation provided all the things for her to look beautiful the king did this stuff so he wants to show the world this is my wife and she is.

Esther 1:9 (NKJV)
Queen Vashti also made a feast for the women in the royal palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.
— Esther 1:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:44Esther 1:11 (NKJV)
to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold.
— Esther 1:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:12What did Queen Vashti do wrong?
Short answer: He says Vashti “refused to come at the king’s commandment” and that she “got comfortable” and “forgot where she started out.” He says her example points to two things: “the old covenant” and “a refusing church.”
▶ 5:49 Awesome and I’m showing her off I want everybody to. See and in verse 12 we know that queen Vashti refused said. No I am beautiful I am the one I am the one with all the beauty why should I listen to the king and she refused to come at the king’s. Commandment and she you know that was her. Fault so let’s review that real quick she only ate with the royal women she was beautiful and fair to look on that’s great she was to be shown off to all the people and the princes and the land and she refused to comply or refused to come when the king called her and I added she got comfortable you know she I we don’t know how long she was queen for it doesn’t say could have been 5 years could have been 10 years but she forgot where she started out she started out as a regular woman and the king you know may you know I haven’t done my research there she could have been queen or this daughter of some other land we don’t know.

Esther 1:12 (NKJV)
But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him.
— Esther 1:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:56How does Vashti picture the old covenant?
Short answer: He says her feast for “only for the royal women” pictures how God chose “the children of Abraham and made a covenant with them.” He says the story happened around 478 BC, “500 years before Christ came,” and is “a prophetic example” that the new covenant had not yet come.
▶ 7:09 Uh but I want to show this morning. That the Vashti’s example is talking about the old covenant and and also an example of a refusing church or a church today in America in the world present day that refuses to comply that refuses to let God show through them the beauty of Christ show through them how God can bring something that wasn’t so beautiful turn it around and make it a light a lamp beautiful see that’s what that’s what it’s talking about two things very important the the first thing the old covenant see God chose a certain group of people Abraham’s children right that’s kind of exclusive right the you know when she had her when she had her feast it was only for the royal women in the royal house sorry not the royal the women in the royal house and you see God selected a natural people the children of Abraham and made a covenant with them.
▶ 8:37 And again we have to remember here that the king. Invested time in [unclear] he invested money he invested you know real estate you know real estate’s expensive especially around the palace I mean come on it’s great that’s really nice of him and uh I also looked it up and this event happened around 478 bc which is 400 or 500 years before Christ came all right and you see this is a prophetic example of what God is doing 500 years later you understand Jesus hasn’t come yet Jesus hasn’t brought the new covenant Jesus you know Ezekiel he prophesied of the new covenant saying I will be God I will be your people uh all men shall know me from the least of the greatest but that hasn’t happened yet the new thing hasn’t come in yet Jesus dying on the cross for our sins becom the prop propitiation and all that.
▶ 9:40 Amen so this is a great example of what God is going to. Do and he’s giving us the reason here why. He is getting rid of the old. Way the old covenant Genesis 17:7 seven I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come and be your God and the God of your. Descendants so that was the covenant he made with Abraham and other covenants he made a covenant with Jacob he made a covenant with Abraham saying that I am going the king is going to be from your seed we’re talking about king uh Jesus Christ king David that all came from Abraham Jesus came from David’s seed that was all a promise that was all a covenant that he.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 17:7 (NKJV)
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.
— Genesis 17:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:57What do 1 Samuel 8 and Acts 7 show about Israel rejecting God as king?
Short answer: He says Israel asked for a king “like all the nations around” and God said “they have not rejected you… they have rejected me.” He says Vashti “refused to come before the king” as Israel “refused to have God as their king,” and that Stephen told the religious leaders they “always resist the Holy Spirit.”
▶ 10:43 Made in 1 Samuel verse I’m sorry chapter 8 I don’t know if you guys remember this story or not a lot of you should. But there was Moses there was Joshua and after after Joshua there were judges there was no king of Israel when they came out of Egypt Moses was the leader and they followed him Joshua was the leader after him and then the elders and then after the elders was the judges like Samson Deborah a. Woman and several other judges. Now these pe and Samuel was a judge as well and he was judging the land and telling people this is what you need to do this is who you need to follow and uh God was blessing the people by not having a king because when you have a king you have to pay another you got to pay the piper for the king you got to pay money for a king you got to pay another 20% or whatever he demands.
▶ 11:52 Right there’s a cost for having a king but you see God wanted to be their king and he only asked for 10% sent to go to the house for the Levites and the tithes and offerings to come in and that was it that was all they had to. Pay but in 1st Samuel 8:5 they asked the people asked said make us a king to judge us like all the nations around so they wanted to be like everybody else and they asked Samuel and said we want a king we do not want God to be our king. We do not want to follow. God and you see I’m bringing this up or let’s move on to verse seven for they have not rejected you sam talking to Samuel this is God talking he’s talking to Samuel he said for they have not rejected you Samuel but they have rejected me you know God comes right out and he says it he says Israel has rejected me has refused.
▶ 13:01 Me that I should not reign over. Them and the reason I’m bringing this up is because Vashti. Refused to come before the king Israel refused to have God as their king as their ruler they didn’t want to follow. Him and God is saying with this story of Vashti I’m going to get rid of that old way the old approach of coming to me through the the burnt offerings and the ceremonies and all that that’s all going to go away and he’s giving us his reasons here the people rejected. Me so I’m going to bring in a new way I mean it’s beautiful when you look when you read God’s word this stuff is hidden I mean I mean maybe you guys knew all this I just been learning but in Esther 1 and two I mean I always thought the meat of it was at the end when uh you know God just turns the whole nation around but there this is so.
▶ 14:14 Powerful and also in the New Testament Stephen if you guys remember stepen he was full of the Holy Spirit full of faith he did miracles himself and he was just serving tables I mean talk about a Christian man. Goodness and uh he stood before the Sanhedrin who accused him they wanted to stone him they came accusing him and he sums everything up he he gave a long good message telling these people what was happening telling them you know what’s going on and at the end in 51 Acts 7:51 he says you stubborn people you are just like your what say say that. Fathers the fathers who are the fathers Israel back in the old covenant you always resist the Holy.
Scripture in this part
1 Samuel 8:5-7 (NKJV)
and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the LORD. And the LORD said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.
— 1 Samuel 8:5-7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:09Acts 7:51 (NKJV)
“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
— Acts 7:51 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:51How can a church today be like Vashti?
Short answer: He says Jesus is preparing his church “not for your own satisfaction” but to “show the church off to the whole world” so people say “I want to be a part of that.” He says we can “behave like Vashti” if we refuse “in the little things” like coming to church or praising God.
▶ 15:11 Spirit was there ever a prophet your fathers not persecute you see here’s Stephen saying you guys have been resisting refusing rejecting God as your king for as long as you’ve been around well he’s talking to religious people here you know not all Jewish people were like that okay and he’s talking to religious people that would refuse that refuse to follow God as her king amen do we see that this morning I hope this is very. Clear so back to. Vashti and first of all we talked about how she is an example of the old covenant the old covenant passing away the old covenant the people rejecting and refusing the king Jesus and now we want to talk about the example of a refusing church the Bible.
▶ 16:09 Says in Matthew 5:15 neither do people light a lamp and put it under a. Bushel instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house you see Jesus Christ king Jesus has prepared his is preparing his church not for your own satisfaction you know queen Vashti she lived in royalty she ate whatever she wanted she was fanned by the people the servants she had people under her anything she wanted was at her fingertips she was taken care of protected no one’s going to come against the king of Persia at this.
▶ 17:04 Time. Right I mean talk about the life. Here and you see it’s the same way with the church Jesus Christ is preparing us he wants everyone to see how beautiful the church. Is and us older Christians we got to hear this for our I’m sorry us I’m a young man sorry. Older Christians we got to hear this you know we can’t get comfortable like Vashti did you get comfortable and you you refuse to say God show me off to the world or God I want to spread your message your kingdom I want to build your kingdom I want to get more people to become like.
▶ 17:56 Me amen amen and that is the goal here Jesus Christ he wants to show the church off to the whole world so that the world will say wow look at that church I want to be a part of that I want to be blessed like that I want to be a son of God I want to be a child of God and the verse after this is the famous verse let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works you see we got to let our beauty shine and what’s that beauty the light the light shining is our the good works living for Jesus Christ and it just it doesn’t stop there as we’ve been learning these past Sundays we have to take the message to the people we have to confront them we’ve got to show them there’s a better way there’s a better king to live for there’s a better kingdom to live for the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness you don’t want to live in the kingdom of darkness Vashti had refused the king it’s like some of us we refuse in the little things we refuse to come to church we refuse to to to praise God what is that we refuse to honor him we refuse to live for him so she had done her dirty work by refusing the king and.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:15 (NKJV)
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
— Matthew 5:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:14Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
— Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:20 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does he say about the decree that wives honor their husbands?
Short answer: He says the writer was wrong to call it “ancient simplicity” and that it is “completely consistent with God’s word,” because “Christ is the head of the church” and the husband is the head of the wife. He says it does not mean “males are head of females”; he has authority only over his wife, and “husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church.”
▶ 19:26 So they made a law saying you I’m sorry all the wives shall give their husbands honor both to great and small you see not just the uh the the the husband that is in the limelight or the husband that is rich or the husband that is doing all you know all this stuff you know you don’t just give him honor it’s talking to the husbands that may not are not in the limelight they’re just you know doing what’s right loving their wife loving their you know loving their family and we are to give honor to our husbands and our spouse. Amen and so Harriet Beecher Stowe and she wrote this saying that this decree is ancient simplicity was way. Off this is not ancient. Simplicity she doesn’t know her Bible the Bible says that Christ is the head of the church and immediately after that it says that the husband is the head of the wife now it’s not saying males are head of females as we are well taught here I don’t walk around all the women and say I in charge of you.
▶ 20:40 No you know the only person that I have authority over is my wife and if you go on to read this it says husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it you know I don’t get to command and demand. You know I got to love and treat her with. Respect. Amen of course there’s a time where I got to turn over the. Tables. But you know Christ didn’t come most of the time turning over tables he was preaching and teaching and loving and in healing and yeah he was getting in people’s. Faces but he was is. Right so I I completely disagree that this is ancient simplicity it’s completely consistent with God’s word Christ is the head of the church you know God set up marriage at the beginning not because you know for a lot of reasons but we got to understand that the mystery of of there’s a mystery there in marriage and that is the relationship between Christ and his church that’s why he set it.
Scripture in this part
Ephesians 5:23-25 (NKJV)
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
— Ephesians 5:23-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What were the consequences for Vashti, and what does the parable of the talents add?
Short answer: He says the decree only told wives to “show honor,” and that Vashti was told she “shall come no more before the king,” which for him would mean losing “the presence of God.” He says her royal estate was “given to another better than she,” like the servant who hid his talent in Matthew 25, and asks “how many of us want to lose our inheritance.”
▶ 22:03 Up and of course there were consequences Vashti had consequences of course we know about the decree I just talked about it that went out and you notice that decree it wasn’t women shall have five lashes it wasn’t your wives shall be kicked in the you know whatever you know it was that these wives had to do something good show honor that you notice that I mean even a heathen king didn’t go around making laws that were stupid saying that you should suppress your wife wives are going to be suppressed they didn’t do that he said.
▶ 22:43 Wives show honor you know just like on father’s day or mother’s day we show honor to our fathers we show honor to our mothers there should be a husband’s and wives day or you show honor to your spouse amen honor never hurt anybody the second consequence is that she shall come no more before the king you see God didn’t throw her I’m sorry whoa uh king the king did not have her executed the king did not throw her out of the kingdom the king said you shall not come before me anymore and you see that’s a big problem when I was growing up I would come into the church and I would experience Jesus Christ I would experience the presence of God as a teenager and growing up until now and if I was ever removed from that it would have affected me greatly you see the presence of God has affected me greatly being with him having him speak to me and talk to me and touch touch me I needed that I needed the love that he has and you see she’s going to be removed from all of that and also the royal estate was given to another better than she it it it adds this in here and it’s so good
▶ 24:14 when you look at the New Testament Matthew 25:25 if you remember the story of the talents where someone was given five talents and two talents and one talent and the guy with five talents said I invested your money and I made five more talents that I have 10 talents and he said all right good job here’s your reward you were faithful in little things now be faithful over much and the same with the guy with two talents he came to the guy with one talent and he said I hid your. Talent a talent is a lot of money uh I hid your talent to the ground you and he says you wicked and lazy servant. I hid your talent what you see queen Vashti didn’t want to come she didn’t want to show off she hid herself she had her own party she kept it to herself do you see that here take the talent from him and give it to one who has the 10 talents give it to one.
▶ 25:23 Better than he we hear the same kind of thing in Esther in the book of Esther that we do get in Matthew 25 it’s so awesome how beautiful God’s word. Is but let’s hear the message here take the talent and give it to one who has 10. Talents how many of us want to lose our inheritance I don’t want to lose my inheritance you see queen Vashti she lost her royal. Estate how many know the Bible says that Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you my father’s house has many mansions and I go to prepare a place for. You in.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 25:25-28 (NKJV)
And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
— Matthew 25:25-28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:16John 14:2 (NKJV)
In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
— John 14:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:07 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why don’t we follow the old covenant offerings and Levites anymore?
Short answer: He says refusing the king is “a good way to lose” your inheritance, and that Israel “cannot come into heaven through the old covenant.” He says the story shows “why don’t we do offerings anymore”: “we know Jesus is our offering,” and God said “this is not the way to the king anymore.”
▶ 26:16 Heaven and you see God is preparing a place for. You an inheritance and you don’t want to lose it. Amen we don’t want to lose the inheritance and a good way to lose it is to refuse him has king to refuse and reject saying I don’t want to show off I do not want to share your word I just want to sit here come and do my thing and leave that’s a good way for God to say backck up she shall come no more before the king it says you see the old covenant. Israel they cannot lean on that old covenant anymore they cannot come into heaven through the old covenant you see that will not bring you to the king the old way the old covenant the offerings the burnt offerings we don’t do that anymore it’s gone right this is a great answer to to that big question why don’t we do offerings anymore what we know Jesus is our offering why don’t we do meal offerings why don’t we why don’t we uh where’s the Levites at how come they’re not here and how come you know I’m not a child of the Levite I’m not a child of Aaron you know I’m.
▶ 27:45 Nobody you know why aren’t we following the old way because here we have this great example 500 years before God came Jesus came on the earth he’s saying this this covenant shall this is not the way to the king. Anymore this is. Good I’m going to make a new way and what’s that new way it’s queen Esther it’s great it’s so good and I you know if you’re not excited I’m going to be excited up here I love it God wants and wanted to reach all you see just because Israel was chosen you see when you go through the scriptures and you read about Egypt being. Destroyed you also read that God that people were hearing about these things people would hear what happened to Egypt right you remember that people would hear when David messed up they’ said God said to him the nations around you are going to hear of your sin.
▶ 28:58 And I’ve got to correct you you see this whole time God has want is wanting to use these people to bring everyone to himself he’s always wanted to reach all but he’s saying that that old way isn’t going to work why because Israel rejected me and if you read kings and Chronicles and just just read those books you can see king after king after king rejecting. Rejecting and the people not just the king the people. Rejecting at the end of judges the people are just in a horrible state they rejected the king Jesus Christ they rejected God and his word they rejected the old covenant they rejected.
▶ 29:51 It. Amen and this whole time God wanted to use Israel to show them off to show how he could bless you so Solomon’s days you guys remember Solomon the book of book of uh well it’s not the book of Solomon when Solomon was king he was showing off to the queen of Sheba all that he had the queen of Sheba came and said oh my gosh look at the beauty of this place look at the procession going to the temple look at all this stuff and she was starting to be convinced that God God was God that God was the way to go and that’s exactly what God wanted to. Do but as time went on you had Solomon himself Solomon. Himself rejected the king Solomon rejected.
▶ 30:52 God so this old way this old covenant is no no longer the way do we understand that this. Morning he always wanted to reach all the people you see he invited all of the people in the palace everyone was welcome great and. Small see Vashti only invited the women in the royal house but he invited. Everyone cu he wants to show off to everyone. His his the beauty of the. Church Israel rejected God as king and lost their in inheritance the New Testament church can be like Vashti you see it’s not just the old way getting out it’s the New Testament church we can also behave like Vashti we can also behave like Israel rejecting the king rejecting his word.
▶ 31:55 Rejecting you know going and making disciples of all nations you see the purpose is that he wants to draw people to himself he wants to draw people to himself through the way you act through your walk and through what you. Say. Amen we know in America that today a lot of people are they’re in their electronics and if you want to get their attention you a lot of people aren’t paying attention. You got to stop them and you got to approach them you got to talk to them. Amen you know just because you know people aren’t looking we got to approach them second part of this is the new wife who was the new wife what is it talking about this is we’re talking about queen Esther.
Who is the new wife in the story, and what was the king looking for?
Short answer: He says the king asked for “fair young virgins” from “all provinces” and did not ask for documentation. He says spiritually “virgin” means “someone who is pure” and “not serving other gods,” and “fair” and “young” point to someone good-looking and fresh in desire.
▶ 32:50 Here what were the requirements what was God what was the king looking. For. I mean it’s such it’s so good Esther 2:2 let there be fair young virgins sought for the king from all provinces you see here it goes from all provinces the whole n you know you know this example even though it’s just talking about Persia he’s using terminology saying. Everybody you see the king didn’t care that. Esther or hadassa was Jewish he didn’t care he didn’t care he didn’t go around saying I want your documentation show me that prove to me that you are Persian prove to me that you’re this he said go to all provinces I don’t care what they look like just get me fair young.
▶ 33:51 Virgins. Thank. Esther 2:4 let the maiden which pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti so here we have it very simple the new wife she’s got to be fair fair that means good looking. Young and she’s got to be a virgin and when we’re talking about spiritual things virgin we’re talking about. Someone who is pure someone. Who is not serving other gods you see God is going around looking for people that will serve. Him people that will love him people that are not serving other gods or serving their own opinions serving other things married to someone else have already been in he’s looking for some people that will serve Christ.
Scripture in this part
Esther 2:2 (NKJV)
Then the king’s servants who attended him said: “Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king;
— Esther 2:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:59Esther 2:4 (NKJV)
Then let the young woman who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” This thing pleased the king, and he did so.
— Esther 2:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:58Esther 2:7 (NKJV)
And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.
— Esther 2:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 34:58How did Esther prepare to go before the king?
Short answer: He says Esther was given “purification items,” and today “the blood of Jesus Christ” cleanses us. He says she “only took what Hegai suggested,” just as the church goes to the apostles and gospels and asks “how can I please Jesus Christ.”
▶ 34:59 And. Lastly please this this woman has to please the king and in Esther 2:7 we find he brought up Esther his uncle’s daughter for she had neither father nor mother and the maid was fair and. Beautiful and he took for his own daughter and I want to bring up that [unclear] who was cousin to Esther took her in and took care of her and mr kiner is always telling us that you know family supposed to take care of family well here it is I thought that was a very good example uh but Esther is fair and. Beautiful and the first thing they do is they gave. Her.
▶ 35:51 Purification items they say it says they gave her things for purification so that she could be cleansed so that she could be. Clean you now what cleanses us today the blood of Jesus Christ see the blood comes and he cleanses he cleanses. Us and Esther 2:12 there was a year of preparation before she became came before the king there was a year of preparation 6 months with oil of myrr and 6 months with sweet spices she had. To it took she had to be dow in. Oil and the oil was. Expensive and this happened for six months this is a lot of this is an investment you know the king’s got a lot of money you know he’s the king of Persia but I mean you know here he is investing in all these young.
▶ 36:57 Virgins you see and he wants to he wants to invest in people he want he’s looking for people that are willing to serve. Him and here we have Esther she does something very. Special in verse 15 she only took what Hegai suggested you see it was her turn to go into the king it was her turn to try and please the king and she only took what Hegai. Suggested you see and today the church we go to the New Testament we go to the apostles we go to God’s. Gospels and we go to them and we say. What how can I please Jesus.
▶ 37:53 Christ you guys see that that’s so good how can I please Jesus Christ I need the word of God I’m not going to come my own way I’m not going to come with my own idea I’m going to. Follow what the apostles what the gospels say to do you know what did David say to do how did David say to come in there’s a certain way to do it there’s a certain way to please the father he’s not pleased with the the sin he’s not pleased with you you know doing things your own way he’s not pleased with disrespect he’s pleased when you come and say God how can I do it your way God I want to follow your way I want to learn your way I want to learn what pleases you and do it you see that’s so.

Esther 2:12 (NKJV)
Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months’ preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women.
— Esther 2:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 36:11Esther 2:15 (NKJV)
Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her.
— Esther 2:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 37:16How do we please the King, and what does it mean to “stay young” in desire?
Short answer: He says “anyone who pleases the king” is now welcome, not only Israel, and that we should ask “how can I please God” with “a humble heart.” He says Esther was made queen because she asked how to please the king, and that a Christian must “stay young” and “stay full of desire.”
▶ 38:53 Good you see here God is l in the playing field before it was Israel the the special people now it’s anyone. Who. Pleases the king and last year there was a message we had a message God had given me a message of how to please the father cuz God came down and he said to the whole the people around Jesus Christ he said this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased and we learned how to please the father and this year we’re learning how to please the h the the king Jesus. Christ and it’s very good this example here the new wife the new way the new covenant in Esther 2:17 the king loved her more than all of the women because she.
▶ 39:57 Sought out and said how do I go before the king how do I approach him how do I please him and that’s exactly what we should be asking today how can I please. God and we need to find out you need to go through the scriptures and say how do I approach him well for one thing you got to come with a humble heart you got to come with a responsive heart you’ve got to come and say God I want to approach you your way what should I do what do you want me to do not I’m not going to do this I’m not going to do that you God you’re going to come my way or the highway in Esther 2:17 so he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti you see here he is he’s saying the queen Vashti is. Gone here is queen Esther here is the new way you need to please the.
▶ 40:55 King. And she now she is the one that had the inheritance the royal estate was hers you know it no longer is you know because I’m I’ve been part of the church for 30 years that doesn’t. Matter you know she was fair and young young meaning I she’s had desire when you’re young you know when I was young 20s you we got a a lot of young people people here and they’re getting into college and and know I talked to them they got desires you know they want to get married they want to do you know they want to find a job they’re working on things it’s all this new experience and they’ve got a desire there there’s a desire when you just get married for that wife or that husband. Amen you guys remember that.
▶ 41:50 Desire there’s a desire that and when you’re older you don’t want to lose the desire higher it shouldn’t fade away just because you’re older. Naturally you that’s what God is saying the new way is to keep yourself with a desire for Jesus Christ a desire to say how can I please the king not how can I please. Myself I’ve been doing things this way all my life and that’s the way I’m going to do them see as a as a Christian you’ve got to stay young you’ got to stay full of desire desire for Jesus Christ desire for his word in Esther 2:18 the king gave a feast and here we have it first we have a feast with queen Vashti where he where she refused the king and now we have a feast and it was Esther’s.
▶ 42:53 Feast for all his nobles and officials he proclaimed a holiday throughout the provinces and distributed gifts with royal liberality he was you. Jesus he was just letting it go man he’s just blessing people why because his church his church Esther was. Was was obedient she she responded. She said how can I pleasee the king his way not my way you know a lot of the other virgins were trying to do it their way but Esther went in saying how can I please him his. Way and there’s a lot in there in that.
Scripture in this part
Esther 2:17 (NKJV)
The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
— Esther 2:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 40:31Esther 2:18 (NKJV)
Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king.
— Esther 2:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:37What is the “revelation of Vashti” and the new covenant, and why Bible morality?
Short answer: He says when you read the first two chapters of Esther “you’re reading about the old covenant and how God was removing it.” He says the new covenant means “nobody’s excluded anymore,” and that living “Bible morality” results in “a blessing to you, to your family and to your community.”
▶ 43:48 Statement the Revelation of Vashti next time you read Esther the book of Esther the first two chapter chapters remember this message remember when you’re reading it you’re not just reading about a woman 2500 years ago you’re reading about the old covenant and how God was removing it you see it has nothing to do. With what did Harriet Beecher Stowesay the first stand for women’s rights that’s not what it’s talking about there’s a beautiful story in this there’s a beautiful example in this there’s a beautiful prophecy in this that God fulfilled and he’s filling today he wants his church to be beautiful like queen Esther and desire him and love him and seek after. Him the Revelation of Esther an example of the new covenant what is the new covenant I will be their God they will be my people all shall know me from the least to the greatest you see nobody’s exempt anymore I’m sorry yeah nobody’s excluded.
▶ 44:59 Anymore everybody’s. Welcome anybody that desires to please the. King an example of obedient church one that is not refusing one that is saying God how can I please you you want to show how great you are through me that sounds good I’ll follow you I’ll live for you you know Bible morality unpopular but look at that thing right there the reason why we came up with that is because the results of living a Bible moral life are a blessing to you to your family and to your community you know not getting intoxicated you’re not going to kill anybody you’re not going to hurt your family you’re not going to hurt people closest to you you’re not going to say things that are. Stupid you the sexual immorality I mean oh just the pain in America from that the family is destroyed right now that is not following Bible.
▶ 46:05 Morality. Amen and that’s what we’re talking about here see God wants to show those results he wants to show that the church that follows that word has this. Beauty and we’ve got to share it with people we can’t be afraid pr we can’t refuse like Vashti did we can’t get old we got to stay young in our desire amen I’m not picking on old people I’m. Sorry I’m. Not you young ones too you got to hear this too you know somewhere we got to get a desire we can’t be like the rest of the virgins saying I’m going to come to God my way I’m going to tell people what I want to tell them I’m going to do it my way you’re not going to please the king and you’re not going to be.
▶ 46:58 Picked amen I want to be picked I want to have an inheritance you know it’s not just for one person it’s for anybody that pleases him the the the the the playing field is is level now the Jews in Israel they’ve got to come this way they can’t come the old way they’ve got to get young they got to get fair they’ve got to get virgin you know they’ve got to come to God his way and please. Him we all it’s not it’s not the same anymore and of course we’ve known that for 2,500 years I’m just reminding you 2 Corinthians 11:12 this is the New Testament and this is Paul talking and he’s talking to who he’s talking to the Corinthians because this is Corinthians the church of Corinth.
How do we make ourselves ready as the bride of Christ?
Short answer: He says Paul wanted to “present the church a virgin to Jesus Christ,” and that “we are the bride of Christ.” He says Revelation says the wife “has made herself ready,” and that “he who practices righteousness is righteous,” comparing it to a doctor who practices medicine without being perfect.
▶ 47:56 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy I have betrothed you to one husband that I may present you a pure virgin to Christ you see Paul his objective was to present the church a virgin to Jesus Christ and you see that should be our object objective I want to be a pure I want to prepare myself I want to make a preparation for when Jesus comes either when I die or when he comes back again I want to be ready for.
▶ 48:40 Him for my husband Revelations 19:7 the marriage of the lamb is come and his wife has made herself ready I don’t know if there’s a lot of people there’s some people that say that you know the church isn’t the bride of Christ or you know where do we get that from well I just explained it to you you know Esther it’s a beautiful example we are the bride of Christ you know Paul is saying you got to make yourself ready I want to present you a virgin a pure virgin before Christ in Revelations 19:8 to her was granted that she should be arrayed and fine linen clean and white for the fine l is the righteousness of the saints he said she made herself ready the Bible says he who practices righteousness is righteous you think about a doctor he is practicing what medicine and he doesn’t know everything I don’t know if you guys ever went to a doctor before but you know I went in one time and I had poison.
▶ 49:47 Oak and I walked in and the guy started prescribing me something for something else and I said I know what it is he’s like oh you do I was like you’re a doctor you know you should know all this stuff but he’s just practicing right he made a mistake you see but you got to practice righteousness here you and just because you’re not perfect doesn’t mean you’re not a doctor when you were practicing righteous you’re. Righteous just because that guy was wrong when he gave me a wrong uh prescription doesn’t mean he’s not a doctor. Amen you see that’s what we do we make oursel ready for when Christ comes for when we die says in John.

Covenant see Jesus Christ he wants to know us. Personally he wants to come inside of us and live inside of us and this morning if you have never accepted Jesus Christ into your heart and this morning if you hear like what Romans says in chapter 3 and verse 6 and chapter 6 it says that all have sinned all have fallen short of the glory of God it also says that the wages of that sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord if you’ve never accepted Christ and you want to accept him this morning with our heads bowed no one looking around the Bible says in 1 John 1:9 if you confess your sins and and and admit you’re a.

About this transcript
This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added by hand, and obvious caption errors were corrected; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. The speaker is a guest, not Pastor Kincer; the recording does not give his name (he refers to “Mr. Kiner” in the third person). Editor notes: the captions garble several names, corrected where unambiguous: “Vashti” (heard as vashi, vosi, bosi, bashi), “Hegai” (hagi), and the 1800s writer “Harriet Beecher Stowe.” The name of the king (“Ahasuerus” or “Xerxes” in Scripture) and the name of Esther’s relative are marked [unclear] because the captions were not clear. He says Esther has “11 chapters or more… 13 maybe”; the book of Esther has 10 chapters. He cites “Matthew 25:25” for the talents (the parable is Matthew 25:14–30), “Romans chapter 3 and verse 6 and chapter 6” (the verses he reads are Romans 3:23 and 6:23), “2 Corinthians 11:12” (the verse he reads is 2 Corinthians 11:2) and “Revelations 19:7” and the next verse (Revelation 19:7–8). He reads Ephesians 5 on headship without naming the reference. He also says the story happened around 478 BC, a date he looked up himself and which is not verified here. His remarks on a 1800s writer’s view of women’s rights, on husbands and wives, and on America and sexual immorality are his own views. Select any time to jump to that moment on YouTube.
