God wants His church to be a powerful display. Priests minister to God and serve His house. Satan accused Joshua the high priest, but God rebuked him, removed Joshua’s filthy garments and set a mitre on his head: Holiness to the Lord.

What is a display?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: A public show that makes people want something—unlike a fading tattoo; Christmas trees spread worldwide.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 0:00 So, now display as you know is a public show, a public exhibition to cause people to want something and do whatever necessary it is to possess it. That’s what a display does. Angelina Jolie and Lena Headey. She played in the 300 movie and the Terminator and so forth and everybody knows Angelina Jolie. See, they got these tattoos. When celebrities or athletes or somebody famous does something America wants to follow it. And as painful as it is to get a tattoo and as costly as it is to get a tattoo and as fading as that tattoo is in 20 years it looks bad because you don’t look so good anymore.

▶ 0:57 You’re fat, you’re drooping the tattoo fades away and let me tell you it cost you a lot of money to get rid of it. It’s costly to get rid of it, it’s costly to get it. That’s the way sin is. It cost you your life to get it the pleasures of sin and then it cost you to get out of it, your pride. But you see, when they put on a public display for a car or TV or whatever they do that so that they create a desire in you to do whatever it takes to get it. Now, God in this session is going to show us his powerful miraculous display of restoration that will cause people to want restoration.

▶ 1:53 Does that sound good? Zechariah 3:1. He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. And Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Now you see this Christmas tree over here on the left? And then the Christmas tree on the right? The Christmas tree on the left is neat because when you bring it into the house, it smells it, you know, it looks good. You got greenery, especially if you live up north where it’s cold and the snowy and all the rest and the smell is just beautiful. But, you know, it’s okay. You know, it gets a little bit attention, but it’s okay. But you decorate. You clothe that Christmas tree with decorations. You especially put presents under that tree.

▶ 2:44 Everybody in the world wants one. In Africa where they don’t even have fir trees, they have Christmas trees. They do whatever they can to get one. Why? Because of the display. And especially the gifts underneath is the big drawing card. And God has something in his plan to draw people under him. Now, Joshua is the high priest. So, let’s look at the ministry of a high priest. I got a picture here of a high priest. Second Chronicles 29:11. Hezekiah said to the Levites, “My son, be not now negligent.

▶ 3:39 The Lord the Lord Jesus has chosen you to stand before him.” Number one. The ministry of the priest is to stand before God. Now, stand has two meanings here. Stand means to dwell or abide before the Lord. But, it also means to stand up. Stand up against any opposition. Stand up against any adversity. Stand up for the Lord. Hallelujah. And that’s the priest’s first responsibility. Then, he says, “Number two, it’s your responsibility to serve him.” You see? “To serve him.” And the word serve here is a household servant. A household worker.

What is a priest’s role?

▶ Watch this part (4:31)

Short answer: To stand for the Lord and serve His house—lifting hands and dancing like David is ministering to Him; stand for God even against the congregation.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 4:31 And so, a priest is to not only stand up for the Lord, but to serve his house. Isn’t that good? Now, thirdly, and I have it read here because it’s going to repeat down here. “Number three, to minister to him.” It’s the same word. These asterisks means it’s the same word. To minister. Now, we’re not just serving his household, but here we serve him. We minister to him. Well, how do I minister to the Lord? “Thy loving kindness is greater than life.” Psalm said. “My lips shall praise thee.” Or I “My mouth shall praise thee. I will lift up my hands in thy name.” See, we, when we lift our hand, when we use our mouth to praise him, we are ministering to him.

▶ 5:32 Forget the household now. We are doing it directly to him. When we pray, we’re ministering to him. See? When we fast, it’s a ministry unto him. When we give our tithes, it’s a ministry unto him for him to use that money to extend his kingdom. See, we don’t give our tithes to a church, we give it to him. And it happens to go through some group and the Bible says, “No, those Don’t send your money to any Tom, Dick, and Harry around.” And watch these charities. They’re a big rip-off most of them. You give your money to a church that can feed you that is also taking the gospel message out for others. Can I hear an amen? You see, when I worship, I’m ministering unto him.

▶ 6:27 You see? When I lift my hands, when I dance, I’m ministering unto him. David danced before the Lord. He didn’t dance before the Israel. He was dancing before Israel, but he didn’t do it for Israel to see. He did it unto the Lord. Cartwheels. David did cartwheels before the Lord. He was so glad. And number four, to burn incense. Let my prayers come before thee as incense. See, my house is to be a house of prayer for all nations. See, the church should be prayers. I don’t understand Christians that sit there during prayer time and have nothing to talk to a to God about? That is your ministry. And believe me, you got a lot to talk to him about. And get away from your little give me this and give me that prayers.

▶ 7:23 It’s like David, search my heart, O God. Know my thoughts today. Try me, O savior. Know my thoughts, I pray. See if there be any wicked way in me. Cleanse me from every sin and set me free. That’s what David prayed. Now, number 69, not going back to number two, the household servant, ministering to God’s house, God’s people, to stand before the congregation. To stand means what? To abide, to dwell. If you don’t go to church, how can you fulfill this? These Christians out there, over 70% of them do not attend church. They do not assemble. And number two, you stand for God in front of the congregation.

▶ 8:17 Even though a congregation wants to go another way, you stand for God and His way. A minister must stand for God. He must stand for God’s truth, regardless of what the crowd does. Could that be an amen? Do we have very many of those in America that you know of? See, what does God bring messages like this? To get us back to the right road. Now, you got to understand that all were meant to be priest when God brought Israel out of Egypt. Everyone was supposed to be a priest. This is the third month that they came out of Israel. And God spoke these words in Exodus 19:5, before a year later, almost a year later, before He said Levite, the tribe of Levi will be priests.

▶ 9:18 First, He wanted how many? All people to be priests, and we have it right here in Exodus 19:5. If you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a peculiar, special, valuable treasure under me, above all people, and you shall be to me a kingdom of what? Priests. The whole kingdom was supposed to be priest. But they rejected it. Remember? God called them up to the mountain. They said, “Oh, no. Oh, no. We’re not going up there. Let Moses go up.” So, God then chose the tribe of Levi. Are you there, church? Now, you just heard something today that you’re not going to hear anywhere else. That very thing right there. We are so focused on some minister, some pastor, some pope, some priest to do everything for us.

▶ 10:16 We have not we don’t have any idea that we can come into our God ourself, call on him, and he will answer us. Hallelujah. 1 Peter 2:5, same thing in the new covenant. The old covenant, they wanted them all be priest, they rejected it. The new covenant. 1 Peter 2:5, you as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices. What are those spiritual sacrifices? Praise, worship, prayer, fasting, getting into the word. Those are spiritual sacrifices. Isn’t that right? They’re not secular sacrifices. It’s not doing without meat on Friday.

▶ 11:10 It’s not buying a Volkswagen instead of a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. I’m going to make a secular sac- No, these are spiritual sacrifices, things that ignite the spiritual world. And how many Americans will come into God’s house with Thanksgiving in their heart, come into God’s house with praise, come into God’s house with the fruit of the lips of praise and worship unto him. No, they come in pump me up. Inspire me. Tell me how good I am and how rich I’m going to be. Am I right? Yes. See, we are when we got saved, he made us a priest to minister unto him. I don’t have to please anybody but him and when I please him, I should please people that want to please him.

▶ 12:09 And people that don’t want to please him are going to be displeased with me, but that’s their problem. It’s not mine. Could that be an amen? It goes on to say, “You are a royal priesthood priesthood, a chosen generation, a special people.” Repeating Exodus 19. See, he’s called us all to be priests to minister unto him and to minister to his household. Can I hear an amen? We want Billy Graham to do our evangelizing. We want Oral Roberts to do our physical healing. You know, we want Robert Schuller to get our minds straight. When we are supposed to be people that minister unto him, possess him, and minister to the church everything that they need. Hallelujah.

▶ 13:04 Revelations 5:20, God has made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign when we get raptured. This rapture theory is one of the horriblest doctrines that the church has ever had. It neutralizes the power that God has destined for his church to have here on earth. We shall reign when? Now, in this present time that says in Romans. See? And here it says, we shall reign on earth. Through him. Through his death, he makes us rulers. Hello, rulers over what? Sin, of course. Lies, deception. We’re rulers over the kingdom of darkness.

Who resisted Joshua?

▶ Watch this part (14:01)

Short answer: Satan, the accuser of the brethren—the Lord rebukes him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 14:01 The lust of the flesh. Amen, church? Now, this is Bible. This is God’s promise. Verse two of Zechariah 3. And the Lord said to Satan, the Lord rebuke you. O Satan, even the Lord that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Now, we got to understand he is prophesying in the office of a prophet telling what’s going to happen in the future. 1 Peter 5:8. Your adversary, the Devil, is a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. Who is resisting us? The same Satan that resisted Joshua the priest back there is resisting us.

▶ 14:53 He’s opposing us. Isn’t that what the scripture says? Yeah. But, I want to tell you the Devil, our accuser, has been rebuked just like Jesus rebuked the Devil rendered him powerless over Joshua, so Jesus has rebuked Satan over our lives. There’s no such thing as Christians being demon possessed, for instance. That goes on in these Pentecostal ridiculous extreme nonsense. If Jesus is the strong man of the house, who can oppose him? Nobody. A demon and Jesus can’t live in the same house. It’s just impossible. Can I hear an amen? But as Pentecostals, we get great flattery out of pretending we got power that’s delivering things that aren’t even there. Now, that’s a good place for an amen.

▶ 15:44 I don’t know if you’ve been around these circles, but I have. Hallelujah. Revelation 12:10, the accuser of our brethren is is cast down who accused him before God day and night. He’s always accusing you. He comes and accuses you when you first get saved. He come to me and says, “Nothing really happened. You know, you didn’t get saved, you know, because there wasn’t much change. I did feel the presence of God. There was a change in my life, but it was that initial baby change.” How many of you experienced that? Yeah, and there was still some flaws in my life, and so he comes and he accuses me. But see, Jesus is going to fix my flaws. He doesn’t tell me that. He just said, “See, you’re you’re a phony.

▶ 16:35 You’re a hypocrite.” See, he accuses. And he’s accusing you before God. He’s up there saying, “You know, that guy needs to go to hell. He needs to be my citizen, not the citizen of your kingdom. Look what he’s doing.” But he’s been what? Cast down. Say it. Cast down. Revelations 12 I mean, Hebrews 2:14, through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, and that is who? The Devil. See, when Christ died on the cross and we embrace that sacrifice of his death on the cross, Satan from that time forth is neutralized. Except he can test us to see where we’re at. See, God uses us as testing tools, so we know where we’re at. Isn’t that why you test something to know?

▶ 17:29 I mean, I you know. You know, this uh TV will last 5 years. We’ve tested it, proven it, we guarantee it 5 years. And so they test it to what? Show what quality it is. And if it doesn’t pass the test, they fix it. And that’s what God does. When you go through a test, he’s just revealing something that needs to be fixed in you, and he’ll come and fix it. Hallelujah. So you pass that test. Is not this the brand that was plucked out of the fire? He’s talking about Joshua being a poker or an instrument that moves coals of fire and in in the fire. Joshua was plucked out of what? The fire.

▶ 18:22 We’re plucked out of the fire. Jude chapter 1 verse 22, and some have compassion, making a separation. Okay? This is like uh when I witnessed to a 76-year-old man, he didn’t drink, he didn’t smoke, he didn’t chew, he didn’t run with people that do, and uh he didn’t go out and his wife. He was really a moral man, but he did not believe in Christ. See, he didn’t have a tragic monkey on his back. The only thing he lacked was believing in Christ, and he couldn’t believe in Christ because of Christians. And so I called him up one day, and I said, he was a family member, and I said, “Listen, I’m not coming over for family stuff. I want to come over to lead you to Jesus Christ, to tell you about Jesus Christ. And if you don’t want me to come over, then fine. Just tell me no.” And he says, “Come on over.” He says, “If you can answer three questions, I will accept Christ.” And one of those questions was, “Why are Christians so uh bigoted that Jesus is the only way?

▶ 19:31 That’s you know, if you don’t do it their way, it’s no way.” It’s a good question, isn’t it? Because Christians are bigoted. They do the same thing many of them that the sinner’s doing, but because they believe in Jesus, they got some paradise in heaven. And because people don’t believe in Jesus, they’re going to hell. And all doing the same thing. He couldn’t get past that. And so I answered his question. I answered all three. And he he did. He let me tell him the gospel message and accepted Christ that day. See, that’s a move of compassion. Other people are not so. They are entangled with uh addictions of sex, alcohol, drugs, you know, they got some real serious problems, violence, and anger. And so we pluck them out of the fire.

▶ 20:25 The fire of hell. There’s two kinds of fire, the fire of hell where we’re going to go if we don’t repent and change our life, isn’t that right? And then there’s fire of trouble. Remember the three Hebrew children? They went into the furnace of fire, the furnace of affliction. And the prophet used it later out of the furnace of much affliction I have chosen thee. That’s them troubles, those those difficulties we go through in life. God will get you through the difficulties. The tribulations, the problems. You will go you will encounter them. But he’s going to pull you out of them. He’s going to get you through them. Amen? Hallelujah. So we are all priests and we’re all capable of ministering to our God. Now, this priest happened to have some filthy garments.

What was Joshua wearing?

▶ Watch this part (21:21)

Short answer: Filthy garments—God’s presence is there to change him, not to approve him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor Kincer

▶ 21:21 Joshua was clothed with filthy defiled garments. If you touch anything defiled, you are what? Defiled in the Old Testament. Isn’t that right? He’s wearing defiled clothes. So, is he defiled? Yeah, he’s got some flaws in his life and here we’re going to see the restoration from flaws. And this is what I was telling you at the beginning that when I got saved, yes, Satan, my accuser, tried to get me not to serve God, make me feel bad about who I was and would point out my problems, but he didn’t say God had a plan to restore and conquer my problems, overcome them, deliver me from them. Amen? He doesn’t tell you the whole story. He’s a big liar. And so, we see here that this high priest, the priest standing before God, he’s got on defiled garments.

▶ 22:18 He’s standing before the angel. Angels can be Jesus themselves. Okay? And the Bible uses the word angel. It’s the presence of God. It’s the display of a presence of God. All right? So, he’s in the holy place or the holy of holies where only high priest could go. And Satan’s there resisting him. And he’s got on dirty garments and the Bible says if you come into that holy place without the proper garments, what happens? You’re dead. That’s why they have bells on the garments. So, if you drop dead, there’s no bells ringing. So, they would take a stick with a hook on it, reach in, grab you, and slide you out cuz if they went in, what would happen? They would die. Hallelujah.

▶ 23:12 Yeah. That’s why the bells were there on those priestly garments. So, they know he’s still alive, folks. He’s still alive. Uh, now He spoke to those standing before Joshua. Now, listen, there’s somebody else that comes into the picture. There are some people in the holy of holies that are not high priests. Wow. And only the high priest could go into the holy of holies. Joshua’s in there with defiled garments. He should be dead. Folks, this is a excellent illustration of God. And he told those who were standing before him, those who weren’t supposed to be in there, but they were in there because they didn’t have defiled garments.

▶ 24:17 They went in like God offered at the beginning for all to come in. Not just the minister, not just the pastor, not just the evangelist. Everybody comes in. And these people are there without defiled garments. And God tells the ones that are there to take his garments. They are the ones who help him change his garments. Whew. Folks, are you there? See, we need each other and we need people. There’s always a core in good churches of people that are undefiled. They live for God, they minister to God, they and they’re the ones that can help you get your life in order. Now, Joshua can be in his presence with a flaw in his life.

▶ 25:16 It doesn’t mean that Joshua was approved by God. But his presence is there to what? Change him. Now, the people can minister to Joshua. Now, you got the priest being ministered to. By these people that are undefiled. Is it possible that a minister, a pastor can have a flaw in their life? Yeah. And still be a genuine follower of God. Yeah. And whose responsibility is it to help change that? Those in the church that are undefiled in that area. You see how important Bible morality is? I have caused your iniquity to pass from you.

▶ 26:09 Now, God says they’re helping, but I’m the one that’s going to cleanse it. Hallelujah. We can share the gospel with them. We can share the presence of God with them. We can love them, but it takes Jesus to supernaturally remove that flaw. I will clothe you with change of garments. Let them. Who’s them? Those standing where they shouldn’t be. Those undefiled. Let them set a fair mitre on his head. And so they, those standing, set a mitre and the new garments. The mitre had a statement on it. See the picture up there that priest? That miter is a cap. See that cap and that gold plate in front?

▶ 27:00 What does it say on that plate? Holiness to the Lord. Holiness to the Lord. See, now he’s what? Holy. You see, the people ministered to him. Jesus came and delivered him. Now he can wear the cap. Holiness to the Lord. Isn’t that powerful? You see how we need each other? You see how your presence in the congregation is vitally important? And your life for Christ overcoming areas is vitally important. Because if scripture says that you can offer hope to people when you have experienced that hope yourself. Hallelujah. In other words, if Christ worked it out in you, he can work it out in them.
