Remembering the Goodness of God - November 24, 2024: full transcript and answers

▶ 0:12 Uh before we begin I’d like to invite some folks to come and share a scripture and a word of thanks just keeping it short one to two minutes uh but I’ve asked some people to come up and share um and stephanie andan if you guys are ready will you please could you share first is that okay all right we’re having a thanksgiving uh service this morning where we’re giving thanks to God amen uh I’ll share some scriptures at the end and we’ll do communion uh and then we will uh have our fellowship time but we want to thank you again for joining us here at the vine cluster church. And we’re here to give thanks and glory to God amen. Amen you may not want that.

That good morning everyone so I’m going to read from Colossians 2:5-7 it says being alive in Christ uh therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk in him rooted and built up in him and established in in the faith just as you were taught abounding in thankfulness I just want to remind us you know as we approach thanksgiving um just to be faithfully walking in him um and that means walking in him daily and um also abounding in thankfulness just being thankful for just what he did for us at the cross and for his saving grace um and also just personally just thankful to the Lord that he provided a wife for me uh and uh just thankful for the church and uh and just praying that he continues to build us up in his faith.

▶ 2:28 Just a little more personal to add to that if some of you don’t know we just got married two weeks ago. So yes we’re very thankful to have found each other and we worked very hard and um there were moments before the wedding where I was really like stressing about the wedding and he felt it too right and that last month it was like the time pressure time but um a couple weeks prior to the wedding when everything felt like it was crazy and I didn’t know what was going to work out um God really reminded me personally that we can just be thankful that we could have this big party and celebrate and that it’s available to us and uh we can because really it’s a party about us.

▶ 3:23 And it’s um but of course to honor the tradition yes but you know it’s a big you know in just party so it was nice if you think about it it was very nice to be able to have that and to um just celebrate our union and our commitment to one another is a beautiful thing and we’re thankful for those things amen thank. ▶ 4:21 Good. Test test test it is okay. Ephesians 2:8 for it is by grace that you have been saved through faith and this is not for yourself but is the gift of God. Um most of you know a year and a half ago I wasn’t looking for God you know we got an invitation for a po. Party and we’re still. Here you know and I. You know so I thank God for saving me fighting.

▶ 5:20 Me wonderful wonderful thank you come on I just wanted to follow that because this year has been such a wonderful blessing so many things good things have happened for us and I am so grateful and this is sincerely from my heart these two women have come into this church serving anything that you need done their hands are on it and they are so capable they’re they’re just a blessing and I want to tell you how much I love you God is for you and I’m grateful that you’re here I’m so thankful and thankful that God is bringing some young people into the house woo we love you we love you and we thank you that you’re here and it is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to come before him with a grateful hearts no matter what circumstance you’re going through it doesn’t matter you come before him with thanksgiving and he meets your needs sometimes you just can’t even pour it out you don’t even know what to say but you come before him with hands lifted up seeking him out of his word what a comfort I’m thankful for the word of God amen and I’m thankful for all of you.

▶ 6:37 Uh what do they say they used to say I need a line over. Here um I might need help on getting the visual it’s. Open that one. Okay what I want to share is um I can I can do that part what I wanted to share is uh this Psalm um and it’s a I wrote it up because I find that when you see it and hear it it gets a little better um impression on you than just reading it out this is a Psalm of of praise and it its encouraging advice and its truth about God’s nature I am so thankful this is what I’m thankful for today that God’s spirit wrote up these things for us in great detail and in great clarity to address all the issues of our life and all the situations of our life and this book is for everything in and all of our lives it’s it has an answer for every part do I understand every

▶ 8:08 word that’s written in it no but it has an answer for everything in your life there are many people who do not believe that but take it from me it’s true. And praise the Lord praise the Lord my soul I will praise the Lord all my life I will sing praise to my God as long as I live and just a little side issue to that I was not raised in a Christian home uh I was not taught from my youth like some of you had the advantage of but Jesus.

▶ 8:46 He’s everything you can praise him for everything that happened in your life and I praise him and here’s a word here’s an encouragement for today do not put your trust in princes in human beings who cannot save when their spirit departs when they die they return to the ground on that very day their plans come to nothing and I think this is very timely for us in this day in this hour and in this place is don’t put your trust in human beings you’re still responsible to serve God for yourself you’re still responsible to do what’s right but don’t press put your trust in people they can’t save you you’re going to be disappointed put your trust in God he doesn’t change he’s never changed people die they’re gone uh I’m old soon I’ll be gone but you’re young and you’ve got a lot of years ahead of you put your trust in.

▶ 9:53 God blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob whose hope is in the Lord their God he is the maker of heaven and earth the sea and everything in them he remains faithful forever remember who your hope is remember who your help is not people not friends not government not parents not children not anything God is your help and your hope he’s the one who’s going to remain faithful forever and not disappoint you he upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry the Lord sets prisoners free the Lord gives sight to the blind the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down the Lord loves the righteous.

▶ 10:48 The Lord watches over the foreigner the stranger is what the Bible calls it the foreigner he sustains the fatherless and the widow those who have no human prop in their lives but he frustrates the way of the wicked remember that as we’re coming into this time he frustrates the ways of the wicked so do we want to be wicked um I don’t think so uh we were once and the Lord watches over the foreigners let’s put that in perspective he we were once foreigners we were Gentiles we were separated from the people of God who were the historical Jews we we were separated from them but by the cross of Jesus Christ he made the two groups of people one he watches over us we are now brought in the Gentiles we are now the people of God as well as anyone.

▶ 11:46 Else the cross of Jesus made us. One the Lord reigns. Forever your God was Zion for all generation the Lord reigns for for all generations praise the Lord you sure did go over the time thank you mrs thompson I appreciate it excellent thank you for sharing the scriptures God is good who is next jim come on over here.

▶ 12:35 And everything the word of God has for us there is a requirement to get the promise get the fulfillment we have to do something now in Philippians 4 starting with verse six it says be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let requests being be known let them be known to God and here’s the promise the fulfillment of what our part has done he will do this and the peace of God which passees all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus and Paul says this it’s really good he says finally brethren other words finally the end of all this whatsoever things are true whatsoever things are honest whatsoever things are just everything things all things that are lovely whatsoever things are of good report if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on these things and here’s the end of it all talking about those he God sets up in leadership like Paul and others pastors and teachers is Paul says those things which you have both.

And heard we have to hear the word and seen in me Paul’s being an example he wants us to be an example he says with things you’ve seen in me do them other words that word do is a verb it means we have to be an active participant in all this and here’s the promise and the God of peace shall be with you. Excellent look at that within the time I’m joking I appreciate you guys sharing your wealth of knowledge your wealth of scriptures I’m just joking about you going over time we love you and it’s so true he’s talking about the promise that comes because we’re following what the Bible says amen there’s a requirement and we can have these great and precious promises when we respond to the word you know it’s like going to your job and your work if you do really well they reward you amen uh if you own a business if you do really well for your customers they buy more and reward you right mrs.

▶ 15:23 Gomez thank you good morning everybody I’m just going to read from st 63 um there’s a time for everything and a season for everything every activity under the heavens you know and it go goes on to say a time to be born a time to die a time to be uprooted you know and I was just reading that. And it kind of you know I just stayed within me and uh I started thinking you know about all the things that we did in the past and how it was a time for all those things you know we had campouts and and uh children’s church we had a great school it was it was just a a great time you know of of you know people you know uh staff and uh some left some.

▶ 16:19 Died. But it was the time you know and uh. And you know we don’t know why you know things continue to go on and when times change or what season it is but I started realizing wow we we all go through different seasons different times and each time we’re going through a season of time we need to just be grateful and thankful for what God has done in our life and and you know what and and he told me you know just look forward to the present you know look forward to the future because now it’s going to be a time to rebuild a time to you know gather up and for that I am grateful for you know I’m I’m just grateful that I could be here in this church and you know for me it’s a time to spend with my family you know I mean I spent time with them but you know I spent a lot of time at church too just haven’t been doing that now you know and because I have to be home but you know God is just telling us it’s a season it’s it’s a time and things will change and it will change for everybody and then he goes on to say.

▶ 17:37 Um in verse 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever nothing can be added to it and nothing can be taken from it nothing that has happened and the joy that God has given us and the things that we have done in the house of God will ever be taken from us no one can take that from us no one can take our joy joy no one and I am so grateful and thankful that we could have that joy from God with stilled in our lives regardless of what we’re going through and for that I’m. Thankful. Amen. Amen did I have somebody else on the list uh. Anybody uh any walkins want to say a word of thanks or have a scripture in mind carmen come on up my wonderful wife I’m very thankful for her we got married this year carmen is the answer to prayer I want you guys to know that I’m not.

▶ 18:51 Joking thank you yes and he is an answer to my prayer as well. Okay so I just wanted to share something that I felt the Lord speak to me um a while ago and it was regarding he this is what he said he said do not magnify your problem instead magnify me and this is during a time I was praying for something over and over again and there’s nothing wrong with praying for something over and over again but when you focus on that problem instead of focusing on God then you’re starting to magnify the problem instead of magnifying God and so he led me to Revelations chapter 4 and he said you read this over and over and over again and it’s the part where it says holy holy holy God almighty maker of heaven and earth and everything in it and the whole heavens angels and all the creatures in heaven are magnifying God day and night and he said when you read that you will magnify me and then within that your prayer will be answered because there’s a part that says that the pre that us the the priests the children of God will inherit the earth

▶ 20:22 and so whatever I was thinking of this problem being. Eventually we will be the on inheriting this earth and that just gave me so much hope and so much faith and I just wanted to share other two scriptures really quick of where Jesus does just that um because when I read it I saw it in a different light and I won’t read the whole story but this is where Lazarus is dead and Jesus raises him up if you have time go ahead and read it for yourself if you haven’t read it but I’ll just read right where it says father he this is Jesus he says father I thank you that you have heard me and that I know that you always hear me but because of the people who are standing by I say this that they may believe that you sent me and there he goes to raise up Lazarus he didn’t focus on the fact that Lazarus was dead he said thank you that you heard me and then he went on to say Lazarus come out and Lazarus who was dead came out and was raised to life again so he didn’t focus on the problem he focused on thinking God the other scripture is Matthew 15 this is when he fed the 5,000 people if you want to go ahead and read the whole story I suggest you do but I’ll read from verse 35

▶ 21:54 and he took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks broke them and gave them to his disciples and then the disciples gave it to the multitude so they all ate and were filled and they took up seven large baskets full of fragments that were left over not those that ate wereth 4,000 men besides women and children again they had no food there was 5,000 people the disciples said where are we going to get the food they were magnifying the problem Jesus gave thanks thanks didn’t even pray God please make sure everybody gets fed he just said thank you broke the bread and passed it out he was magnifying God instead of magnifying the problem and there’s many other stories like this that you can find where Jesus shows us how to magnify God instead of our problems so I would I would advise that whenever you are just too focused on a problem that you give thanks.

▶ 23:43 Morning so uh I left my Bible at home sorry but I wanted to share that I am thankful that God is good all the time uh in the good times he’s faithful in the bad times he’s there sometimes you don’t realize that God is with you until you go through bad times bad times make you stronger they make you a better witness and his presence is stronger when you’re going through things sometimes people think oh you’re only a Christian when it’s a good times and uh you feel that presence and everything and they think oh yeah you you’re really doing good but sometimes you have to be going through some of the bad to really show God’s faithfulness to you he never leaves you he never forsakes you he is always with you and he always has the answers.

▶ 25:32 Um let me see here see there’s a scripture right. There feeding the 4,000 she already went over it. Awesome uh and it’s a I don’t I don’t mean anything negative by it it’s the thing we used to say when we were younger you stole my message because the spirit of God is speaking the same things and it’s excellent it’s powerful and so it’s not negative thing it’s a it’s a wonderful thing God is saying the same thing and he’s reminding us if you remember the 10 lepers Jesus healed 10 lepers only one came back and thanked him and he said has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner so powerful because Jesus said again that he only came to the lost sheep of Israel and this foreigner gave praise to God and Jesus is acknowledging that and he that foreigner received healing and it’s a good reminder that no matter what time it is in your life no matter what time is going on it’s important to praise to thank to give God the glory.

▶ 26:48 Amen and Jesus he’s not he doesn’t speak in a very prideful tone Jesus is healing somebody he knows he’s God but he’s says has no one returned to give praise to God you know he’s he’s God he’s saying give praise to God in heaven he’s not a prideful. Man there it is again this is the other. Scripture about. Lazarus so last scripture this morning as we let’s uh pass around the cups for communion. We’re going to take communion this. Morning and this.

▶ 27:41 Is oh man I didn’t have the scripture here it’s in the New Testament we know this of course this is the last supper and Jesus it it says after taking the cup he gave thanks and said it and said take this and divide it among you for I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of until until the kingdom of God comes he took the bread he gave thanks and he broke it and he gave to them saying this is my body given for you do this in remembrance of me number one Jesus Christ knows what’s going to happen what’s happening very shortly after this does anybody remember he’s going to be crucified whoever said that he’s going to be crucified and Jesus is doing what he gave what. Thanks Jesus even though he knew he was going to be killed he gave what.

▶ 28:38 Thanks that’s. Powerful stop and think about that knowing that something bad is going to happen in your life and you give what. Thanks now it’s not something bad because you did something bad right. You know if you murder somebody and something bad is going to happen to you you brought that on but Jesus Christ is. Innocent right and he didn’t do anything wrong and he is giving thanks knowing what’s going to happen so we’re going to take up communion this morning. We’re going to pray for the food that we’re going to have oh a little early.

▶ 29:44 Today we’re going to. Pray for the uh did everybody get their cup you guys know how to open this will you stand with me as we do communion together. Let’s get. Our let’s read first 1 Corinthians 11:26. Together whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the lord’s death until he comes so when we do this we are proclaiming the Lord dying on the cross we’re proclaiming to the world that it actually happened that it’s real amen this is the new covenant in my blood his blood was shed for us his blood is very powerful do this in remembrance of me remember the new covenant is that God will give us a new heart he’ll put his spirit into us and cause us to walk in his ways very powerful very important and he says that this cup is a new covenant in my blood the bread 1 Corinthians 11:24 take the eat this is my body which is broken for you do this in remembrance of me we being many are one body in Christ individually members of one another we are the body of Christ together amen and it also represents his body

▶ 31:15 but we know that we are directly connected to Christ so I’m going to ask before we eat and before we drink somebody pray for the bread who can pray for the bread this morning. Miss woods will you play for the pray for oh no mr dagel will you play for pray for the bed please let’s bow our heads Jesus today we just thank you for your sacrifice giv your body for this church and for all of blood amen let’s eat. Together and we’re also going to pray. For the cup the this is just juice but this is.
