Pastor David G. Kincer teaches Acts 10: God prepares both Cornelius, a God-fearing Gentile, and Peter through an angel and a vision. Peter learns God is no respecter of persons, and as he preaches, the Holy Ghost falls on the listeners, who speak in tongues and magnify God before being water baptized—showing the baptism of the Spirit as a supernatural, empowering event God gives to whom he will.

It’s a happening the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a happening the Holy Spirit is a happening he’s always doing something so we’re gonna go to Acts 10 and read about Cornelius. Activities the Jewish faith so he’s fasting he’s praying and he’s giving alms now he is a Gentile a non Jew.

▶ 0:55 Who fears God and does right now what’s the fear of the Lord depart from evil not only do they depart from evil but he turned and did right that’s a complete turn right all right now so an angel appeared to him now that changes things you see he’s not experiencing this by faith he’s experiencing it by fact an angel appeared and the angel talked to him okay and told him to go send for Peter down in Joppa and bring him back and [unclear] listen to what he’s got to say that’s what the angel said now. Peter in the meantime was up at the hour of prayer praying.

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:1-5 (NKJV)

There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.

— Acts 10:1-5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:26 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

How did God prepare Peter?

▶ Watch this part (1:52)

Short answer: In a vision of unclean animals, told three times to kill and eat, then told three men were coming. God works at both ends of a vision.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 1:52 see this is a religious activity and Peter is doing a religious activity okay he’s praying at the hour of prayer but this hour of prayer was different he had a vision of unclean animals being led down from heaven and he’s told rise Peter kill and he [unclear] not so Lord not so I’ve never ate unclean [unclear] happened three times then the Lord says there are three men coming to your house you ask nothing you go with them alright three Gentiles so God works at both ends of a vision when somebody says I got a word for you you better have it too all right yeah.

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:9-20 (NKJV)

The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate. And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there. While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

— Acts 10:9-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:06 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

How did Peter respond to worship?

▶ Watch this part (2:46)

Short answer: Cornelius fell at his feet; Peter said stand up, I’m just a person. He says America worships ministers and churches.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 2:46 God works both ends out of it now. Cornelius called together many kinsmen and friends to hear Peter and. how did he get them there he saw an angel I mean how many people see an angel man I saw an angel and he told me to go send for Peter that [unclear] that’s preaching the gospel all up and down the area here and and you know wow and so a lot of people came his friends and relatives came to hear what Peter had to say. when Peter come in Cornelius fell at Peter’s feet and worshipped him and this is one of the problems in America we worship ministers we worship churches we worship our self and our opinions.

▶ 3:43 God uses us one time we think we’re Moses all right but Peter what took him [unclear] said hey stand up I’m just a person I’m just a human being like everybody else. isn’t that the truth why do we always want to elevate someone God uses because that is the religious way alright where everybody’s looking for some person to be their answer man. Okay and America needs to get this dealt with. Now verse 34.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:25-26 (NKJV)

As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.”

— Acts 10:25-26 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:26 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What did Peter realize?

▶ Watch this part (4:23)

Short answer: God is no respecter of persons; in every nation whoever fears him and works righteousness is accepted—like those who never heard and follow their conscience.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 4:23 Verse 34 Peter spoke. Okay and what did the angel tell Cornelius listen to what Peter says so Cornelius and all those people are tuned in God is no respecter of persons and that is true he said he would pour out his spirit on all flesh he said he would bring the Gentiles and the Jews into his kingdom all right he said he wanted all to come to the knowledge of salvation he said he is not willing that any should perish God is what not a respecter of persons and Peter through that vision realized that because Jews would have nothing to do with Gentiles they thought they were God’s chosen people just like a lot of Christians today think they are God’s elect of the elect.

▶ 5:18 Peter goes on to say in every nation people that fear God and work righteousness is acceptable with him remember a couple of weeks ago we showed you that people that never heard of Christ will be judged by their conscience see the conscience of right and wrong so here it is again the people in the Congo the people in the Amazon jungle that never heard of Christ and they follow their conscience. the fear of God is to what hate evil and turn from it right and to do right works live right you make the total change he said they’re what they’re what accepted Christians in America can’t get over that hump.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV)

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

— Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:23 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Why would God come to an accepted man?

▶ Watch this part (6:11)

Short answer: God wanted Cornelius and his family to receive Christ and the baptism of the Holy Ghost—not merely be accepted. This is the “other harvest.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 6:11 See they’ve been told so long that if people don’t believe in Christ they’re going to hell alright and they have a hard time. Accepting the word of God but here it is again plain English isn’t it now Cornelius was a Gentile who feared God and did right so is he accepted with God yes well why would God come to him. See this is the other harvest I keep telling you about. God wanted this man and his family to receive Christ and be filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. God wasn’t just satisfied with him being accepted he wanted him to experience all the things of God is that a fair God yeah.

Had Cornelius believed the gospel?

▶ Watch this part (7:14)

Short answer: He had heard of Jesus anointed with the Holy Ghost and power, healing the oppressed, dying and rising, and remission of sins for believers—but he hadn’t believed. Yet God came to him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 7:14 Alleluia. Isn’t that good that is good now. So God comes to a man already accepted by him and sends an angel miraculous things are going on now he keeps talking and says you know through preaching he says you Cornelius and everybody in this house knows the preaching that’s gone up and down the region that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power he went about doing good healing all oppressed of the Devil miracles physical healing casting out demons anybody that was mistreated by Satan Christ was healing alright he rose from the dead he died and he rose from the dead and whoever believes in him shall receive remission of sin.

▶ 8:11 Cornelius didn’t believe the message that he had heard. Are you out there. He was an unbeliever he believed in God but he didn’t believe in Jesus Christ and he rejected like the Jews like the Jews he rejected the message of Christ why because he was going to the Jews to find out what to do and of course they passed on their religious doctrine to him fast pray give alms you know Jews do [unclear] religious acts rituals and you’ll feel good about yourself. Are you there see Peter says you know because you’ve heard the preaching that Jesus died rose again healed people went about doing good and if you believe on him you will be delivered forgiven and set free from sin and you.

Does God wait for denominations?

▶ Watch this part (9:16)

Short answer: No—in the 1960s he filled Episcopalians, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists and, in 1968, Catholics, without asking anyone’s permission.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 9:16 Didn’t believe. So God comes to an unbelieving Gentile that is serving God in the Jewish religion. didn’t Jesus say that you make your converts twice the children of hell than you are yeah see. Are you with me. Alleluia. did Cornelius’ condition stop [unclear] stop God from coming to him no. See this is why in the 60s I keep telling you God asks no one’s permission he came and filled starting with the Episcopalians the Lutherans Presbyterians the Methodists all the way up to the Catholics in 1968 he come and filled them with the Holy Ghost asked no one’s permission didn’t ask the pope’s permission didn’t ask the headquarters permission he just come and fill people with the Holy Ghost why because he cared denominations doesn’t bother God he will come to people.

What is Holy Ghost baptism?

▶ Watch this part (10:34)

Short answer: A supernatural, orderly, edifying, empowering event—not received by faith or at water baptism. Acts 10:44: while Peter spoke, the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard—no laying on of hands, tarrying or instructions.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 10:34 That are looking for him isn’t that a just God and [unclear] a God that doesn’t respect persons isn’t that the God we serve alleluia yes now. Going to make a statement Holy Ghost baptism is a supernatural. Orderly. Edifying. Empowering event a happening. All right it’s not a faith event [unclear] means coming it doesn’t you don’t have it because you believe you have it. You have it because you have it. And it’s supernaturally done.

▶ 11:27 Done by a supernatural God and we’ve already seen the supernatural work in an angel appeared to Cornelius and Peter had a vision God worked from both ends to prepare for this event that he was going to perform amen. The Holy Ghost baptism you don’t get it at water baptism like a lot of people believe it is a supernatural non-human non-faith event that is orderly edifying empowering. And. You get it when you get it Acts 10:44 while Peter spoke these words. About Jesus the gospel the Holy Ghost what fell on all them which heard the word while Peter spoke the word the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word there’s no laying on of hands.

▶ 12:35 Like there was in. Samaria on Philip and [unclear]. there was no tarrying like the book of Acts 2 they didn’t they didn’t have to tarry ten days they didn’t have to wait ten days there was no prayer worship praise or fasting going on no stammering no slain in the spirit no shaking. Are you there but something supernatural is going to take place they didn’t breathe on them to receive the Holy Ghost. you know we get a little scripture [unclear] yeah.

▶ 13:29 There were no instructions he was preaching Christ crucified no instruction and no human help now just so you know just good just just praise God real fast [unclear] faster faster. No human help the Holy Ghost what what is the verb fell the Holy Ghost fell the Holy Ghost fell all right the Holy Ghost fell. And. Action took place and before the Holy Ghost fell they didn’t have the Holy Ghost and when the action took place they had the Holy Ghost all right and it fell on them which what heard the word they that were in there could hear Peter preach it didn’t happen next door didn’t happen around [unclear] down the block it happened with the ones that were there to hear the preaching so.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:44 (NKJV)

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

— Acts 10:44 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:06

How did the Jewish believers react?

▶ Watch this part (14:36)

Short answer: They were astonished that the Holy Ghost was poured out on the Gentiles. Poured out is action: until it fell, they didn’t have it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 14:36 The Holy Ghost fell is a supernatural event. Supernaturally this happened. They of the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the Holy Ghost there were some people that came with Peter. They were believers and they were astonished because these unbelieving. Non-Jews were filled with the Holy Ghost. see the Jews thought everybody had to come to them to get to know God and [unclear] they thought they were God’s elect do we have that present attitude in America in many churches yeah. So God poured out on the unbelievers on non-Jews the Holy Ghost okay see the word here pour it out that is an action verb see if this cup had stuff in it and I tilted it what happens it’s poured out see until the Holy Ghost was poured out until the Holy Ghost fell they didn’t have the Holy Ghost.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 10:45 (NKJV)

And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

— Acts 10:45 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:55 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

How did they know?

▶ Watch this part (16:00)

Short answer: They heard them speak with tongues and magnify God, because they met him. He recalls being filled with love when baptized in the Spirit.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 16:00 This is not something you believe that you receive you receive it. It’s an event it’s a happening it’s supernatural. See poured out the event and how did they know they were baptized in the Holy Ghost because they were [unclear] on the ground. shaking like We see a lot. Big outward demonstrations. Or was it because they heard them speak with what tongues languages plural not just one plural and what.

▶ 16:54 Magnify God they amplified God they made God big why they met him and when you meet him you start talking differently. See when you meet someone you can talk differently about them because you met them before they couldn’t magnify God like this it’s a supernatural work and in America we’re scared to death of tongues. They had religiously prayed they had religiously fasted they religiously gave alms they religiously did these things that the Jews asked them to do but they did not have what the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Remember Jesus said the comforter is with you but shall be in you yes we received the spirit of God when we get saved but the baptism is an event of empowerment supernatural.

▶ 18:04 Amen and how the Bible describes it yeah all right they weren’t speaking in tongues and magnifying God until the Holy Ghost fell and then they were they were seeing things about God they never said before because they met him. and God was enlightening them and God the Bible says in James that no man can control the tongue why did God use the tongue so emphatically in the baptism of the Holy Ghost because it [unclear] shows a supernatural power to bridle your tongue. And. Use it for his purposes hallelujah. They spoke with tongues tongues is supernatural they couldn’t do it the Bible says unknown diverse

▶ 19:06 They didn’t know these languages and they were speaking in and they magnified God supernaturally I know when I got filled with the Holy Ghost and that baptism of love I loved God I loved everybody I loved the church I loved the preacher I loved the telephone pole out in front of the church I remember hugging it why because God came to me and revealed himself to me and he was a God of love and I possessed a love that I never had before I hated no one. And I would say I love God I love Jesus [unclear] I didn’t do that the day before I didn’t do that five minutes before I did that after it happened and I spoke in languages but the languages really didn’t mean nothing to me except a bunch of baby [unclear] because I didn’t understand what I was saying but I did understand meeting God the God of love oh.

— James 3:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:32 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Why tongues here?

▶ Watch this part (20:09)

Short answer: 1 Corinthians 14:22: tongues are a sign to unbelievers. At Pentecost the many nations understood; at Cornelius’s house there was no interpretation—a sign to unbelieving Gentiles. He says 25% of Catholics are now spirit-filled.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 20:09 Yeah. First Corinthians 14:22 tongues are for a supernatural sign to them that what believe not and why do I want to kick tongues out. Because people misuse it we the church misuses a lot of things don’t they don’t we yeah. we’d rather pray than do we’d rather pray than get up and do something to solve the problem that we prayed about isn’t that right we just want a magic prayer to solve everything and I can go on and on and on yeah now. in Acts 2 there were people from 15 different nations and so they spoke in 15 different languages they did not need an interpreter because the people understood from their dialect and from their nation what language they were speaking and they knew that those people speaking it didn’t know their language so it was what a sign a supernatural sign and thousands come to Christ that day.

▶ 21:26 Because of tongues and the message but here we have one local people talking one local language. they don’t need to speak in tongues for anybody to understand when they spoke in tongues no one understood what they were saying and they were not rebuked for speaking in tongues without an interpreter [unclear] you better have an interpretation. Well here we have an initial group pouring out of the Holy Ghost they spoke in tongues there was no interpretation and there was no need because everybody there spoke a local language and everybody there was an unbeliever.

▶ 22:25 Even though they heard the message they didn’t believe. But when the Holy Ghost came upon them and they spoke in tongues [unclear] that’s a reason to believe. Are you out there you. See the Holy Ghost is a supernatural event is not something that we pattern ourselves after what we see on tv or what we saw in some revival meeting it is an event that he channels in the direction he wants and does what he wants and accomplishes what he wants to do and here he come he wanted to pour out his spirit on unbelieving Gentiles non-Jews and he did it. And they spoke in tongues unbelievers oh.

▶ 23:19 how [unclear] Bible. did he say I would pour out my spirit on all flesh is he proving it here is he [unclear] absolutely just like he did in the 60s with all the denominations. do you know that 25 percent of Catholics are spiritual Catholics today from that 60s visitation. You guys need to read more that is a good statistic from the 60s before the 60s no Catholic was a spirit-filled Catholic no Catholic spoke in tongues not not like that but when God came and did it 25 percent of Catholics today throughout the world are spirit-filled Catholics. Folks that’s a praise God. See he came right through the Catholic doctrine the Catholic statues Mary statues he came right through and touched people that would allow him to touch them.

▶ 24:23 Hallelujah. We divide but God doesn’t divide he sees people in every area and he wants to meet them and that’s why he came to Cornelius Cornelius was acceptable with God because of his behavior because of his character but God wanted him to know Christ and God wanted him to be filled and empowered of the Holy Ghost and he wants everybody to know Christ and everybody to be empowered by the Holy Ghost and if they haven’t received believed it yet even though they’ve heard the preaching we still have a God that [unclear]. Amen. Hallelujah. isn’t that good. wouldn’t it be great if we could get [unclear] God.

1 Corinthians 14:22 (NKJV)

Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.

Was the Spirit received at water baptism?

▶ Watch this part (25:23)

Short answer: No—Peter asked whether anyone could forbid water to those who had received the Holy Ghost; they were baptized afterward. Chinese leaders he met “read it different.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 25:23 Then answered Peter can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we they hadn’t been water baptized when I was in China [unclear] I told you I’ve talked to a lot of ministers and this is one of the areas I hit every time every time I talked [unclear] when I hit this area. Baptism with Holy Ghost we get it when we’re baptized in water I said where does it say that in the Bible well Jesus was baptized and it came down and the apostles were baptized before the day of Pentecost am I right the Samaritans were baptized before Peter came down and lay hands on them isn’t that right these guys were baptized after the Holy Ghost came upon them and you know what they told me every time I brought it up they would say we read it different.

▶ 26:19 How do you read that different they were filled with the Holy Ghost then they got water baptized. Are you there they read it different because they want to be loyal to their church who teaches that you get it when you’re baptized in water and when the Bible plainly says you get it when the event happens. Amen. Alleluia and I could not get any of them to listen isn’t that true I mean it wasn’t just this [unclear] I had other areas that I hit leaders they let me talk to leaders everywhere I went one-on-one. And I could get none of them to listen to present truth they always backed up their source.

— Acts 10:47 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:25 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What does the baptism do?

▶ Watch this part (27:19)

Short answer: Guides into all truth and empowers witnesses. Acts 11:1: the Gentiles received the word; after Pentecost the apostles never ran but died as martyrs. You know when you have it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 27:19 How many don’t want to be that way I want to be open to the things of God yes if God can come to these unbelieving Gentiles can he come to us yes does he want to come to us does he want to empower us does he want to make us a better husband a better wife [unclear] a better mother [unclear] a better dad you know huh yes and how what does he do to do that the baptism of the Holy Ghost guides us into all truth. the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a baptism of power to be witnesses for Christ.

▶ 28:00 Chapter 11 verse 1 the apostles heard the Gentiles received accepted what the word of God why did they accept the word of God because the Holy Ghost came upon them the Holy Ghost backed up [unclear] Peter’s preaching and they became believers and receivers not only of the word of God but Christ and the Holy Ghost and that’s what God wanted he didn’t want Cornelius and them just to be accepted he wanted them to be empowered and know Christ amen and that’s the message we got to get out as a church [unclear] when you follow the apostles before they were filled with the Holy Ghost they denied Christ they ran from Christ they did all kinds of things but after they were filled with the Holy Ghost there’s not one record.

▶ 29:01 Of them running denying. They all died a martyr’s death for Christ they never had nervous breakdowns they never run off with some woman in the church they never took the church’s money they didn’t ride around in Rolls-Royce chariots like ministers do today they didn’t preach prosperity preaching or faith preaching they preached the gospel of Christ and they lived the gospel of Christ because the Holy Ghost empowered them. That was a big change in your life huh. You ask any woman do they remember the birth of their child the kid’s 20 years old do they remember it yeah but yeah why it’s an event they didn’t get that kid by faith.

▶ 29:57 they got it by [unclear] am I right let me tell you the baptism of the Holy Ghost is the same way. When you get it you never question if you’ve gotten it because the event is so powerful so empowering you know. what you got back there and it’s still working in your life today.
