In this message, Pastor David G. Kincer continues on the baptism of the Holy Ghost, teaching that it brings understanding of God’s word. He covers Proverbs 1:23 and Acts 2:38, why the apostles needed their understanding opened, the hardened heart, 1 Corinthians 14 on tongues, and why love and maturity are the greatest signs.

Where does he say the Holy Spirit is promised? (Ephesians 5:18, Proverbs 1:23, Joel 2:28, Acts 2:38)

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: He says he is “a firm promoter of the baptism of the Holy Ghost” and wants “everything that God offers to get me into the divine nature.” He says Proverbs 1:23, “turn at my reproof,” holds the same promise as Joel 2:28, “I will pour out my spirit unto you,” and as Acts 2:38, so “the same promise in the Old Testament is the same promise in the New.”

▶ 0:00 Ephesians 5:8 says, “Be filled with the Spirit, be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess.” And that word “excess” does not mean where you get drunk to intoxicate you, you know, you’re stumbling around. It means the word means it leads to undisciplined behavior. Don’t get drunk with wine, because it brings you to undisciplined, uncontrollable behavior. That’s what alcohol does, and so does marijuana and other drugs. So we are going to continue on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and show you another one of its ministers, of ministries rather, to those who receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I am a firm promoter of the baptism of the Holy Ghost because the Bible promotes the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and I also experienced the baptism of the Holy Ghost, so I know what I’m talking about from both the Bible and my experience. Okay.

▶ 1:09 Now, I’m going to be sharing with you some things that I didn’t know until the last few years, when God stepped back and waited for me to seek him to find out some new truth. Okay, now a further look at the Holy Spirit and its effect on us: partaking, participating in the divine nature. If I need something to empower me and help me partake of the divine nature, I don’t want to dismiss it, do you? I want everything that God offers to get me into the divine nature. Could that be an amen?

▶ 1:54 And the Holy Spirit is one of these promises that he promised to give us, to bring us into the divine nature. Proverbs 1:23. Pentecostal has never used this scripture; they always use Joel 2:28. Charismatics, same way: Joel 2:28, Acts 2, Joel 2:28 and Acts 2, Joel 2:28, Acts 2, that’s it. But the Holy Ghost is mentioned all throughout the Old Testament, and the same words: “I will pour out.” “Turn at my reproof.” Okay, “turn” means repent. Repent at my reproof, when I come to you with the prophets, when I come to you with preachers preaching the word. If you will repent and turn from your sins, admit you’re wrong, does that sound like a New Testament principle? Absolutely.

▶ 2:49 It wasn’t, that’s not a New Testament principle, it’s since the beginning principle. You know, so many Christians think the New Testament just obliterated, just ended the Old Testament. Folks, all this stuff is in the Old Testament, all of it. So here in Proverbs 1:23: “Turn at my reproof,” and he says if you will repent, I’ll do something for you: “Behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you.” Wow. Same word “pour” as Joel used: “I will pour out my spirit on all flesh.” Here it is in Proverbs, okay: “I will pour out my spirit unto you.”

▶ 3:33 Now, we got to understand that this is the same statement in the New Testament, Acts 2:38: “Repent and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission, forgiveness, of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Okay, the same promise in the Old Testament is the same promise in the New. So when Dave Kincer heard the preaching of the gospel, and he confessed his sins and asked Jesus to forgive his sins, and I renounced those sins, knew they were wrong, and I purposed to turn from them. Now, I didn’t turn from all of them in one day; I just purposed to turn from them. It took me some time to get rid of some sins. How many took you a little time to get rid of? Yeah, yeah. But my goal, my heart, was to renounce these things and get rid of them. Then I became a candidate for the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

What does Philip in Samaria show about the baptism of the Holy Ghost? (Acts 8)

▶ Watch this part (4:35)

Short answer: He says Philip preached in Samaria with healings, belief and water baptism, and that “days later Peter came down and laid hands on them and they got the Holy Ghost.” He says “the Holy Ghost was a different experience than water baptism, than salvation, than miracles and signs and wonders and hearing the preaching of the word. We need them all.” He calls the claim that you get it in water baptism “a bunch of baloney.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 4:35 Now, you find in Acts 8 a story of Philip going down and preaching the gospel to the Samaritans, okay, the city of Samaria. He preached the gospel, there were healings and miracles going on, the people believed. Great joy filled the city. The people repented, the people were baptized in water, tremendous thing. Now, folks, I have been trying for 40 years to get the church to see this. Philip went down and preached the gospel. Jesus said that he will work with the word, with signs following, if we would preach his gospel, preach his gospel, not man’s ideas, he would back it up with miracles and signs and wonders. And we don’t see that today, and one of the reasons we don’t see it in America.

▶ 5:58 We’re seeing it overseas, whether people want to accept it or not, it’s happening overseas in South America, Central America, Africa, Asia. It’s happening. Okay, the Book of Acts is happening. The miracles happened, they were baptized in water, then days later Peter came down and laid hands on them and they got the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost was a different experience than water baptism, than salvation, than miracles and signs and wonders and hearing the preaching of the word. We need them all. Could that be an amen? And I’ve been trying for 40 years to get God’s people to get their spiritual minds opened up to this: that when God arises, his enemies are scattered; if he be lifted up, he’ll draw all men to him. And the key to this is the power of the word and the power of the Holy Ghost, and get the mechanics out, get the ritual out, get our opinions out, and stick to the word, and God will come and do his thing, and people will come. People will come when there’s real miracles going on.

▶ 7:10 People will come when there’s a real move of God changing people’s lives. See a homosexual changing his life, that’s a miracle. An alcoholic changing his life, that’s a miracle, and the word’s going to get out. You know, advertisement, you can’t get better advertisement than that. But we have gotten distracted in America, and we’ve been distracted for decades. And today I want to make sure that you know what I’m trying to get across to you. Amen. What the Holy Ghost is trying to get across to you. All right, so these people that say, “I got baptized in the Holy Ghost when I got baptized in water,” that’s a bunch of baloney. These people that say there’s no indication or sign that you are filled with the Holy Ghost, that’s a bunch of baloney. They are different experiences, and we need them all. And this Holy Ghost is a promise given to us to be partakers of the divine nature, and the Bible says without him we can do what? Nothing.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 8:5-17 (NKJV)

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city. But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.” And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time. But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

— Acts 8:5-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:37

Does the baptism do it all? (Proverbs 1:23, 2 Timothy 2:15, John 14:26)

▶ Watch this part (8:13)

Short answer: He says “there’s no magical baptism, water or Holy Ghost,” and “you got to put some effort into this.” He says “the Holy Ghost will drive you into the word,” citing John 14:26, and that the Holy Ghost “will only reveal to you what Jesus Christ himself taught and the disciples passed on,” not any minister’s opinions.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 8:13 Folks, we need Jesus, we need the Holy Ghost. Amen. Now then, he says what he will do when he poured out his spirit unto you: “I will make known my words unto you.” Boy, that would be nice if God’s people really understood the Bible, and you can raise your hand and actually say, “I understand from Genesis to Revelation the whole Bible.” You’re a wise people. And you know, one of the reasons is you haven’t really read it consistently or studied it. The Bible says, “Study to show yourself approved.” Put some time into this book. We just want, you know, water baptism does it all, or the Holy Ghost baptism does it all. No, you got to put some effort into this. I mean, will you raise your hand and say, “Yeah, I agree with that, I got to put some effort into this”? There’s no magical baptism, water or Holy Ghost.

▶ 9:17 The Holy Ghost will drive you into the word. Okay, how many would like for the Holy Ghost to come and give you understanding of his word? It’s important that you respond, because God is looking, and you can respond mechanically, or you can be distracted like some of these teens over here giggling and so forth, writing notes between each other and distracting the other guy, or you can get serious and you can attain these things. Huh? So publicly responding, I found as a young Christian, was a very important part of my growth in God. John 14:26: “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, shall teach you all things.” See, the New Testament confirms and verifies what God said he would do in Proverbs. The Holy Ghost will teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

▶ 10:20 We got to get away from [unclear] and [unclear] and [unclear] and whatever, and we got to get back to Jesus Christ and the apostles’ doctrine. And I’m not trying to knock that, I’m just telling you people are worshiping ministers, and they’re looking to ministers to tell them what to do, when they need to go to that Bible and get their understanding open to what Jesus Christ himself said. And that’s all the Holy Ghost will reveal to you. He won’t reveal to you [unclear]’s opinions, he won’t reveal to you [unclear]’s opinions or Billy Graham’s opinions. The Holy Ghost will only reveal to you what Jesus Christ himself taught and the disciples passed on. Amen. And I told you before, I read many books when I was a young Christian, 30, 35 books a year, but nothing surpassed the Bible. I finally realized I don’t need human books, I need the Holy Spirit revealing this Bible to me.

Why does he say books should never replace the Bible? (1 Corinthians 2:13)

▶ Watch this part (11:36)

Short answer: He says “books should never replace the Bible” and that you “come to the level of the real author, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.” Citing 1 Corinthians 2:13, he says the apostles spoke “not in words which man’s intellect teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches,” and says he has “heard a lot of human intellect” and repents of passing it on.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 11:36 Amen. A lot of those books were wrong, they were just flat-out wrong. You cannot write a book on your experience in God; you must write a book on Jesus’s experience in God, because he is the fullness, and the apostles are the fullness, they had it. Are you there? Because all you’re going to do is come to the level of the author. When you go to the Bible, you’ll come to the level of the real author, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ. Hallelujah. I’m not against books, but books should never replace the Bible.

▶ 12:23 New Testament verification, 1 Corinthians 2:13: “These things we speak, not in words which man’s intellect teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches.” And that seems to be lacking in America today. We have intellect, and I watched a bunch of shows on TV this week, and I just heard a lot of human intellect, that’s all I heard. And I, I repent. Did I go, “God, am I like that? Am I just going to the Bible with human intellect and passing on human intellect?” Forgive me if I am; that is horrible. He said we don’t teach with our intellect but with the Holy Spirit, what the Holy Spirit teaches. See, the apostles only taught what the Holy Spirit gave them to say.

Why did the apostles need their understanding opened? (Luke 24:45, Isaiah 28:10)

▶ Watch this part (13:27)

Short answer: He says the apostles had walked with Jesus “three and a half years,” seen miracles and preached, “and yet they didn’t understand until he came and opened their understanding.” He says “you got to realize you don’t know everything just because you accepted Christ,” and compares growth to school: “God isn’t like American public schools that just pass you because you attend church.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 13:27 Wouldn’t that be good if our ministers would do that? Wouldn’t it be good if the congregation would do that? Good Lord, we have so many opinions and we all think we’re right. So I want you to know the New Testament backs up this Old Testament promise, and so we go back to the divine nature of Christ. Luke 24:45: “Then Jesus opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.” Now listen, those apostles had been walking with him for three and a half years. They had heard the Sermon on the Mount over and over and over and over and over. You see, they had heard his teachings of the kingdom over and over and over and over and over. They had heard him say he was going to die on the cross and rise again, over and over and over and over, for three and a half years.

▶ 14:25 They had seen the miracles, they were participators in miracles and casting out demons and healing the sick and preaching the gospel and people saved, they were ministers of the gospel, and yet they didn’t understand until he came and opened their understanding. And this is step number one: you got to realize you don’t know everything just because you accepted Christ. And you don’t know everything because your church has some articles of faith. You don’t even know their articles of faith. I guarantee you right now this congregation cannot tell me 10% of the truths in our articles of faith, and our articles of faith covers the Bible. Are you there? So we need Christ to, what, come along and open our understanding, and he does it. The Bible says little by little, line upon line, precept on precept.

▶ 15:38 You got to get kindergarten passed before you go to first grade, second grade, third grade, high school, college in God. So if you don’t respond to the kindergarten message, you’re not going to move on. God isn’t like American public schools that just pass you because you attend church. He only passes you to the next level when you are participators in the first one, in the previous one you got. That, I mean, you can hear high messages and it doesn’t matter; only Jesus can reveal it to you, I don’t care who’s preaching. Okay, now if Bible characters needed more understanding, so may we need more understanding. Joseph and Mary: now remember, Joseph and Mary had angels coming and visited them. Mary had an angel coming and visit her and told her she was going to have Jesus, the Messiah, the Savior of the world.

What does he say about Mary, Joseph and “delegated ministers”? (Luke 2:49)

▶ Watch this part (16:46)

Short answer: He says Mary and Joseph both had angelic visits, yet when Jesus was 12 he “had more understanding than the priests in the temple.” He says Joseph was not a stepfather but “a delegated minister,” and that “the Pope is a delegated minister, mainly by the Catholic Church, not God,” while a pastor “better be from God himself.” These are his own views.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 16:46 I mean, man, she got the message straight, and she had the Holy Ghost overshadowing her, and that which was birthed in her was conceived by God himself. She experienced high, powerful spiritual experiences; she experienced a word of revelation from the angel himself. And so did Joseph; the angel came to Joseph and told him, you know, go ahead and marry Mary, you know, and, you know, what’s being done here is of God, and this is what’s going to happen, and you’re going to call his name Jesus, he’s going to be the Savior of the world.

▶ 17:23 They were told all this, but when Jesus was 12 years old, in Luke 2:49, and his parents came to get him at the temple, he had more understanding than the priests in the temple, and they were amazed at his understanding of the scriptures at 12 years old. You know, our 12-year-olds are lucky to know John 3:16 throughout America. We don’t teach it in the home. Very few homes teach the Bible to their kids, very few, and there’s no way the church can do it with an hour or so on Sunday morning and one night a week. There’s just no way. It has to be done in the home. Anyway, Mary was a delegated vessel to birth Jesus Christ. Joseph was a delegated parent.

▶ 18:39 You see, I can’t call him a stepfather because a stepfather is one who marries the mother of a child that has been divorced, or the child’s other parent died, or that child’s parent is irresponsible and doesn’t take care of the child. Well, God is not irresponsible, God did not divorce Mary, and God’s not dead. So what is Joseph? He is a delegated minister, okay, to parent Jesus Christ. And folks, I said that to say this: the Pope is a delegated minister, mainly by the Catholic Church, not God.

▶ 19:35 In the Protestants, the pastor is a delegated minister, either by the church or from God himself, and you better be from God himself, because only God himself can really appoint delegated ministers. I don’t care what your church does, and that’s one of our problems in America: we got a lot of ministers that are not delegated by God, they’re delegated by the local church, and they have local problems, serious local problems. Do you get that? Hallelujah. And so the Pope doesn’t mean he knows anything, and if you hear him talk, I know he doesn’t know anything. That new [unclear] priest, I mingle with them, I talk with them, I eat with them, they don’t have any [unclear] understanding.

Is God hiding it from people, and why was he afraid of God? (Luke 9:44)

▶ Watch this part (20:34)

Short answer: He says that in Luke 9:44 the saying “was hid from them,” and “God is the one that will keep it hidden until you have done what’s necessary to get the new understanding,” so “don’t go blaming your ignorance on God.” He says the word “afraid” is “a reverence fear,” that he was once “literally afraid of God,” and that “he has good goals for me.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 20:34 Christians, when I talk with them, their understanding is so shallow I am shocked that they want to live in that kind of, you know, state when God has promised so much. Do you get my point here? These people had experienced some tremendous things in God, yet when Jesus said, “I must be about my Father’s business,” they didn’t understand what he said. And if they needed more understanding, is it possible we do? Absolutely, and we got to get it the way the Bible says to get it. All right, the Jews and the 12 apostles, Luke 9:44. Jesus just healed a demon-possessed boy, all right, and then Jesus tells the apostles and the Jews there, “The Son of Man shall be delivered into the hands of men,” but they understood not, and it was hid from them. Now, remember I told you, you can’t get second grade until you passed first grade.

▶ 21:39 You see, God is the one that will keep it hidden until you have done what’s necessary to get the new understanding. Now, don’t go blaming your ignorance on God. And right quick, boy, I just see people going, “Well, it’s, I’m like I am because of God.” I’m like I am because, no, you’re not. God has offered us all these things. You’re like you are because of you. They were afraid to ask him about this saying. Now, the word “afraid” is a reverence fear. They had such a high regard for Christ and him being God that they were afraid to approach him. I was like that as a young Christian. I was afraid of God. You know, he’s going to come and he’s going to make me do things I don’t want to do.

▶ 22:38 He’ll make me marry some buck-toothed skinny girl that has no breast and everything else, and, yeah, and send me over to Africa and the Congo, and, you know, so I was afraid because of what the church implied. I was literally afraid of God. And then I found out I don’t have to be afraid of God, he has good goals for me. Are you there? Ah, very good goals. And a lot of you are afraid to approach God. You’re really afraid to really meet with the power of the presence of God, because it will expose you and it will change you, and some of these things you don’t want to be exposed and you don’t want to change.

▶ 23:41 So if you can keep a little distance from the Almighty, you can stay a stubborn, ignorant, foolish, egotistical, prideful, lukewarm believer. I’m just letting that one sink in, that’s all. And so I had to get rid of my fear of God, and in the Pentecostal charismatic circles it was big. I mean, the things you heard that God would do when the Holy Ghost came upon you just scared you to death. So when a Holy Ghost came, you’d want to kind of keep him at a distance.

What does the Mount of Transfiguration show about denominations and quarreling? (Mark 9:5–10)

▶ Watch this part (24:33)

Short answer: He says Peter, James and John “want to make three temples,” and says that is “where we’re at in America, Europe,” with a church for each person followed. He says that after the mountain the three “questioned, they argued, they quarreled,” and asks, “Aren’t we like that in America today?”, urging believers to “stop quarreling with each other.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 24:33 Peter, James, and John at the Mount of Transfiguration saw Jesus glorified in his heavenly character, and they want to make three temples. This is what they come out with: they see Jesus transfigured and he’s talking to Moses and Elijah, and so this is the revelation they got: we need to build a temple for Jesus, a temple for Moses, and a temple for Elijah. And this is where we’re at in America, Europe: we got the Baptists, we got the Lutheran for Luther, we got the Presbyterians for the [unclear], we got this temple for this person, this temple, Calvin temples, we got all these temples, we got [unclear] Street temple. Hallelujah.

▶ 25:26 That is when our human intellect comes in. The apostles, did they need more understanding? Absolutely. So Jesus responds and says, “No, don’t tell these things to anyone, what you’ve seen, till the Son of Man was risen from the dead,” and they kept that saying between themselves. They did do that, they kept their mouth shut. But between themselves they questioned, they argued, they quarreled what the rising of the dead should mean. They had direct revelation and all they did was quarrel and argue about the real truth of it. These three men, can you imagine, they come down from the mountain and months later they’re going down the road: “Well, I see the resurrection a dead like this,” “Now I see the resurrection here.”

▶ 26:30 We are, we got the Peter camp, we got the John camp, and we got the James camp. Aren’t we like that in America today? We are. But we need to embrace this Holy Ghost to open up our understanding and stop quarreling with each other and let the Holy Ghost come and reveal the truth to us. Amen. Now folks, that’s good preaching, I hope you’re listening. Some ignorance was in themselves, not hid by God, as I mentioned earlier. A lot of you are going to excuse yourself now, because all you have to do is say, “Well, God’s hiding it from me. God’s hiding it from me because you haven’t passed a level yet.”

Whose fault is it if we can’t see or hear? (Mark 8:17, Matthew 10:26)

▶ Watch this part (27:25)

Short answer: He says “it’s not the Devil, it’s not your preacher, it’s not your parents,” but “it is you,” because the heart is “hardened,” meaning “completely unwilling to learn or accept new truth.” He says “there ain’t no DNA hindrance in God.” On Matthew 10:26, he says the one who keeps you from knowing is you: “too busy reading junk to find any time” for the Bible.

▶ 27:25 Mark 8:17: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you not still see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but you see not, and do you have ears but you hear not?” You see not, it’s not the Devil, it’s not your preacher, it’s not your parents, it’s not your neighborhood, it’s not your nation, it is you. It is why you can’t see, it is why you can’t hear. We want to blame the Devil for everything, or we want to blame our parents, my DNA. “Well, you know, that’s the way I am, I was just, you know, I was raised this way, and my parents were this way,” and yeah, there ain’t no DNA hindrance in God. Amen. Your culture, your family, it’s you.

▶ 28:30 You’re the problem, and here’s the reason you can’t see and can’t hear: your heart is hardened. This word “hardened” means to be completely unwilling to learn or accept new truth. “My daddy believed this way, by cracky. Daddy believed that way, by cracky, so I’m believing this way, by cracky. I don’t want to hear your Holy Ghost baptism nonsense.” Hallelujah. “My daddy was this way, my mama was this way, and by blood DNA I’m this way.” See, it’s you that have hardened your heart.

▶ 29:29 It’s not God hiding it, it’s him waiting for you to pass the first level, to go to the second, to go to the third, to go to the fourth, until you reach the mark of the high calling of God. Matthew 10:26: “There is nothing covered that shall not be” what? Revealed. “There is nothing hid that shall not be” what? Known. And who is the cause of you not knowing something? You say it. Yeah. Now say, “Me.” Yeah, it’s you. You’re too lazy to open the book and read it. You’re too busy watching sports and TV things and movies and reading magazines, and, uh, what’s these magazines by the register, cash register? Uh, yeah, yeah, tabloids, that’s it. You’re too busy reading junk to find any time, and listening to it, for the Bible. And so you don’t know anything, because the Bible says you got to seek out of the book and read, you got to study it, you got to ask God to reveal it to you, and then you have to apply what he shows you so that he can show you something else.

What does he say about Israel’s ignorance and the second coming? (Acts 7:25, Psalm 106:7, Deuteronomy 5:29)

▶ Watch this part (30:59)

Short answer: He says Israel’s ignorance was “some of it themselves, not God,” citing Acts 7:25, Psalm 106:7 and Deuteronomy 5:29, “Oh, that there was a heart in them that they would fear me.” He says the second coming is a hidden thing: “no one understands that, and they won’t understand it till the time comes,” and that others have been “changing their doctrines on the second coming.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 30:59 Hallelujah. Israel in Egypt coming out, Acts 7:25: “Moses supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them, but they understood not.” Psalm 106:7 says, “Our fathers understood not your wonders,” your miracles, your judgments in Egypt, and most Christians don’t understand that either. They just talk about the miracles, they have no idea why that is. There. Huh? And a lot of us suppose we know something and we don’t know beans, and we need the Holy Ghost to, what, open our understanding.

▶ 31:47 Now, if these Bible characters needed it, and here’s, uh, the tabernacle in the wilderness. Israel’s ignorance was some of it themselves, not God. God had some things hidden, but he had most of his stuff revealed, and we read in Deuteronomy 5:29, “Oh, that there was such a heart.” Now, what do we find just a few verses back? It’s our hard heart that was the problem, right? The hard heart. What do we find in the Old Testament? What was Israel’s problem? The heart, the hard heart. They were a hardheaded people. “Oh, that there was a heart in them that they would fear me, keep my commandments always, and that things would go well with them and their children forever.” You see, yes, there were some things, the Messiah was a hidden thing. They knew he was coming, they didn’t know who he was. There were things that were hidden. Abraham wanted to look into him and couldn’t. But there were a lot of things that weren’t hid.

▶ 32:52 Amen. And the second coming, by the way, no one understands that, and they won’t understand it till the time comes. I don’t care what kind of nonsense they give you, the TV is just full of the second coming baloney, and I’ll tell them that face to face. They’ve been changing their doctrines on the second coming ever since I’ve been in the church, because they predicted something, time went by, it didn’t happen, so they changed and brought out a new chart, a new thing, and the gullible Christian just grabs on to the new thing. We’re not going to. They didn’t understand the first coming until it happened, did they? Did they? And so certain things will be hid, but there’s not anything that’s going to affect us in not being participators of the divine nature. You see this little cartoon here: “Press any key,” and the guy’s saying, “Where is the any key on my computer keyboard?”

What does he say about tongues and understanding? (1 Corinthians 14:14)

▶ Watch this part (33:59)

Short answer: He says Christ “came to change the way you are,” and that “my spirit prays but my understanding is unfruitful.” He says the tongue in Scripture is a language “acquired by a supernatural means,” and that “tongues does not give me understanding.” He says one can have gifts of the Spirit yet not increase understanding, and that “it’s not his approval of your lifestyle” when miracles happen.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 33:59 That really illustrates the church. God says things, and they come up with the dumbest response. Have you heard people say, “Well, that’s just the way I am”? That’s one of those, that’s stupid. Christ came to change the way you are. Amen. Anyway, 1 Corinthians 14:14: “If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.” I want the Pentecostals, charismatics, and the fundamentalists and the Catholics to understand something. Okay, I want you to understand something: praying in a tongue, and this word “tongue” means that you’ve acquired it by unnatural means, you acquired it by supernatural means. Okay, it’s not tongues as languages, it is languages that were acquired by a supernatural means, and this is what the quarrel is about in the church world in America and Europe. Okay, “my understanding is” what?

▶ 35:12 Unfruitful. Okay. Tongues does not give me understanding. Us Pentecostals have got to understand that. You just hear what these preachers say over and over and over and over; we need to go and see what Paul said. Are you with me? Okay: “My spirit prays but my understanding is unfruitful.” Okay, like Bible characters, we may experience the presence and the power of God, and we did in the Pentecostal charismatic services.

▶ 35:51 I’m telling you, the presence of God would come, you could feel his presence, and that’s what we want here, that’s a purpose of worship, to bring the presence of Jesus so he can open understanding and change people’s lives. You may experience gifts of the Spirit but not increase our understanding. Why do [unclear] and [unclear] and them fall when they were supposed to be filled with the Holy Ghost? Because they weren’t letting the Holy Ghost give them what? Understanding. So they could meet God in prayer and worship and praise, and miracles happen and gifts of the Spirit’s going on, and I’ve told you this over and over and over. I go to third world countries and God’s healing people and doing things, and the ministers are having sex with the women and robbing the church of the money and doing these things, and when I approach them and I tell them this is not right, they simply say, “Look at the results.” Well, the results are because God loves people and he’s meeting people. It’s not his approval of your lifestyle.

▶ 37:00 Isn’t that an amen? And you can experience miracles, and you can have, you can experience gifts and all that, that doesn’t mean you have understanding. Judas did, and he didn’t have understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:2-3: “He who speaks in a tongue,” what’s a tongue here? A language acquired by supernatural means, not by natural means. Okay, “you don’t speak to men, but you speak to” who? God. Is there anything wrong with speaking to God? No, even in a language acquired supernaturally, “for no one understands him.”

What does he say Paul meant about tongues, mysteries and a sign? (1 Corinthians 14:2–4, 12:30, 14:22)

▶ Watch this part (37:57)

Short answer: He says that when one speaks in a tongue, “in the Spirit he speaks mysteries,” and that “you can fake it, you can pretend it, but it’s still not the Spirit doing it.” He says “I could feel the power of God welling up within me,” and that Paul wished “you all spoke with tongues” yet asked “do all speak with tongues?” He says tongues are “a sign” for unbelievers and that “there’s no Bible for that” as a reason to stop miracles.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 37:57 No, it doesn’t help anybody else, it doesn’t help the person who’s speaking in tongues at all. “However, in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.” So who’s given the tongues? The Spirit. Acts chapter 2: they spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave what? Utterance. I’ve told you, a few years ago I was going, I was teaching on this, and I was going to demonstrate it, and I couldn’t, because God didn’t show up, and so I had to go, and I told you first I thought I’d done something wrong here, God was penalizing me, and then later I began to see he was trying to enlighten me. See, you can’t do things unless the Spirit really does it. You can fake it, you can pretend it, but it’s still not the Spirit doing it. Can I hear an amen? So “he speaks mysteries.” Why are they mysteries and hidden? Because there’s no understanding. He’s speaking in a language that no one understands. That’s why Paul said in the church, “I’d rather speak a few words with understanding than 10,000 in an unknown tongue,” because understanding is important. All right, 1 Corinthians 14:4: “He who speaks in a tongue,” now what’s a tongue?

▶ 39:17 A language supernaturally acquired, not natural means, “edifies himself.” Okay, you can feel, when I speak in tongues back there as a young Christian and throughout the years, man, I could feel the power of God welling up within me. Wow. And yes, I got built up, not from understanding, just because of the power flowing from God through me, the awareness of God. How many tongue talkers agree with that? “I wish you all spoke with tongues,” Paul said so. Is Paul downing tongues? Is he saying it’s not for today or any day? Now, his wish is that all would speak in tongues, but in chapter 12:30 he said, “Do all speak with tongues?” So all of us don’t, what? Speak in tongues. That’s the bottom line.

▶ 40:15 I wish we could all do miracles, but how many know we don’t do them? And then he says, “I speak in tongues more than you all.” And yet he said in the church he didn’t speak in tongues. Wow. So where’s he using tongues? 1 Corinthians 14:22: “Tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to those who” what? Don’t believe. Do we want to get rid of something that causes unbelievers to believe? No, we don’t. Miracles, remember, are there to help you believe. Do we need miracles in the church? Is God a respecter of persons and shut off miracles in this generation and only did them in the early church?

▶ 41:17 There’s no Bible for that, that’s just men’s intellect. Folks, we need everything going on possible to cause people to believe the word. When Jesus preached it, they said, “Never spake a man like this man.” Remember, they came out to Jesus, now listen to me, church, they came out to Jesus for the word, literally, because his word was of authority and power and it changed their life. The word. They came out to Jesus for miracles; not everybody in the congregation was sick, but those that were sick, he healed them, and that caused people to believe. And once that sick person’s healed, he needs what? The word.

▶ 42:14 And church, if we can get this understanding that the thing hasn’t changed, that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and seek God and believe God and ask God to do these things in the church and mountainside, we have a tremendous opportunity of God honoring his word and doing things, and we can see God touch people supernaturally. Could that be an amen? Prophecy, Paul said, is a sign for who? Believers. So we want to throw prophecy, edification, and exhortation out of the church? See, the gifts of the Spirit: prophecy, tongues, interpretation, miracles, they’re gifts of the Spirit, and church, God is not a respecter of persons.

▶ 43:15 He’ll give us what he said he would give us if we will seek him for it. How many of you would like to see God heal people? I mean, just, he just heals people? Yeah, I would like to see the word so powerful that people come and are just transformed by the word of God. Yeah, see, we got to get a hunger for something before we’re going to attain it, and so God had to stop me in my tracks a few years ago and start teaching me some new stuff. You know, you get locked in what you knew yesterday. Have me an ocean wave coming in, the only hindrance is the shoreline and the wave that went before. Isn’t that right? The power of the next wave is reduced by the wave that went before it, and that’s what we do in the church.

What does he say about waves of revival and how tongues should be used? (1 Corinthians 14:16, 14:9)

▶ Watch this part (44:15)

Short answer: He says “every wave that preceded hindered the new wave God was bringing in,” and that a “tsunami” is coming. He says “there’s no record of him having an interpreter on his ministry team,” and that “don’t forbid to speak with tongues.” Reading 1 Corinthians 14:6 (which he calls 14:16), he says speaking should be “by revelation, by knowledge, by prophecy, and by teaching,” and that “tongues are for a purpose.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 44:15 You know, the Lutherans, you know, they come out, and then the Baptists came out and the Lutherans persecuted them, the Methodists come out and the Baptists and the Lutherans persecuted them, and I can go on down the line to the Alliance church with divine healing and the Pentecostal church with, you know, the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Every wave that preceded hindered the new wave God was bringing in. That’s the way us Christians are. We can’t realize there’s a big wave back there, a tsunami, that’s going to just sweep over the world and over the church and change everything. Now, he had just quoted this scripture, in the law it is written, “With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak to this people, yet for all that they will not hear me.”

▶ 45:24 He had just quoted this scripture when he says tongues are a sign for those who are not believers. And remember, on the day of Pentecost they spoke in languages of the earth, and they didn’t need an interpreter because the people of the language was there, knowing what they were saying. And that’s when God began to deal with me and say, you know, if Paul spoke in tongues more than them all, and he said when the believers come together he would rather prophesy and speak in tongue, where did he speak in tongues? Now, it took a few years to get this into my cranial vacuum. I’m not like you guys, you just, yeah, got it. So when Paul went out to all these nations, he went out everywhere, all dialects, all languages, he had that gift of tongues to speak in their language the things of God.

▶ 46:31 There’s no record of him having an interpreter on his ministry team. Giving you something to think about. I’m going to expound on it. Watch this: “Don’t forbid to speak with tongues,” and people are forbidding it, saying it’s of the Devil and everything else. 1 Corinthians 14:16: “If I come to you speaking with tongues,” what’s tongues? The word tongue, language supernaturally acquired, not naturally acquired: “what shall I profit you unless I speak to you?” Now listen to this, and us Pentecostals, I have never heard this preached, and I didn’t see it till just recently.

▶ 47:31 If I come to you speaking in languages acquired supernaturally, “what shall I profit you unless I speak either in languages acquired supernaturally, by revelation, by knowledge, by prophecy, and by teaching?” Oh my Lord, it just opened up the error we’ve been in for a hundred years. Now, do I have to speak in a heavenly language or a supernatural language to speak by revelation, by knowledge, by prophecy, and teaching? No. But if I speak in a tongue it should be one of these four, or I profit [unclear] anything. And all of a sudden, tongues are not for you to draw attention to yourself and feel good.

▶ 48:28 Tongues are for a purpose. It’s assigned to the unbeliever, and when these languages are spoken, it brings revelation. And I spoke by revelation in many third world countries without tongues. I would just be speaking and God would reveal to me, open up a scripture to me, and I’m learning while they’re learning. Okay, I could speak also by prophecy, the divine inspiration of the Holy Ghost, while I was preaching. I had all of these sources working on my behalf when I preached, and I wasn’t speaking in tongues. But if we’re going to speak in tongues, it should have what? The same purpose. Are you there? Now, how many know that would be a sign to an unbeliever? 1 Corinthians 14:9: “Unless you utter by tongues words easy to understand, how shall it be known what is spoken?”

What does he tell Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals? (1 Corinthians 13:1–3, 14:40)

▶ Watch this part (49:35)

Short answer: He says “we need the Holy Ghost to preach, to teach, to give a word of wisdom, to give a word of knowledge, to heal,” and asks non-Pentecostals, “where is the fruit of the baptism of the Holy Ghost in your life?” He says “you don’t stop flying airplanes because one crashed” and that “God honors the principle of response.” He closes with 1 Corinthians 13 and “let all things be done decently and in order.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 49:35 And the problem with Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals is we don’t really perceive that we need the Holy Ghost to preach, to teach, to give a word of wisdom, to give a word of knowledge, to heal. We need the Holy Ghost to initiate it. And so the non-Pentecostals, they just said, “Not for today, I got the Holy Spirit when I was baptized in water.” The Catholics say they got the Holy Spirit when they had the commencement, you know, and they went through catechism, and, you know, that they got the Holy Ghost there. Listen, if you had the Holy Ghost, why are you living the way you’re living?

▶ 50:27 And so I challenge the non-Pentecostals: where is the fruit of the baptism of the Holy Ghost in your life? They say there’s no sign, there’s no indication of being filled with the Holy Ghost. Yes, there is. You’re going to have a compelling for the word of God so you can get understanding. Your understanding is going to keep increasing, your behavior is going to change, the way you approach God is going to change. You may not have raised your hand before, you may not have clapped before, but as I tell the fundamentalist, the Bible says, “Clap your hands, all ye people,” that includes fundamentalists, “and shout to God with a voice of triumph.” Are you there?

▶ 51:28 “I would that men, all men everywhere, raise up holy hands without wrath or doubt,” and that includes fundamentalists. Who gave you the right to disobey God’s word because you were raised a certain way? You got to break away and follow God’s word, and God honors the principle of response. Wow, that was good. Amen. That’s what I tell the Catholics. Oh, I love them and I share with them, but I am direct with them. Understanding we need from the Holy Spirit.

▶ 52:11 Okay, this is what we got to get in our cranial vacuum: “Though I have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries, have all knowledge, have all faith,” the faith camp, the prophecy camps, they’re all in here, “though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,” the focus on the poor, it’s all in here, “and though I give my body to be burned,” a martyr for Jesus, a martyr for my church, martyr for my opinions, “and have not love, I am nothing, and it profits me nothing.” See, we can experience, and this is what the Catholics and the other Protestant churches don’t understand, is that God can move in Pentecostals and charismatics and gifts and all these things, and they not have understanding, and they behave in a manner and do things that any idiot of the Bible knows is not Bible. And there’s no Bible for “slain in the Spirit,” falling backwards, and there’s no Bible for that, and anybody with any common sense is going to go, “You guys are nuts.” And that’s what Paul said. He said they’re going to think you’re crazy.

▶ 53:35 But I tell my Protestant friends that are non-Pentecostals and Catholics, you don’t throw out a truth because someone shipwrecks it. It’s still a truth. You don’t stop flying airplanes because one crashed. You don’t stop driving a car because one crashed. It’s the drivers that crash, it’s the people. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is for us, it’s a key to turning America around back to God, and anybody can have it. This church can have it. Amen. And the Bible says, say at the end of this, “Let all things be done decently and in order.” You see, and when we get out of order, we look stupid, but we need to do it right. Amen.

How does he end? Love and growing up (1 Corinthians 14:20, 13:11)

▶ Watch this part (54:40)

Short answer: He says “love is the result of the Spirit” and “pride and division is the result of human intellect,” and that “the greatest sign is the greatest commandment.” He urges bringing a woman who had an abortion to “forgiveness and change and reconciliation in her life.” Citing “be not children in understanding,” he asks, “Can we grow out of Christian childhood and into a responsible, mature Christian?”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 54:40 We need to do it right. Love is the result of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit’s impartation of understanding. Pride and division is the result of human intellect. That’s my statement. The baptism of the Holy Ghost, the greatest sign is the greatest commandment: to love God. The great commission, the great commandment is to love God, love your neighbor, love yourself, love your wife, love your husband, love your children. That’s the greatest sign of the Holy Ghost baptism that I know of, is when he brings you to that dimension of love. And this is what the Holy Ghost will do for you, and he’ll give you a heart to love the Catholics, knowing they’re wrong, to love the homosexual.

▶ 55:45 How are you going to reach them if you don’t love them? To love the lady who had an abortion and bring her to the place where she can find forgiveness and change and reconciliation in her life. How are you going to do it? For God so loved the world, he didn’t tongue the world, he didn’t [unclear] the world, he loved the world, and came and taught us in the condition we are in. And that is my high recommendation to this church: we need this baptism of the Holy Ghost, we need its expressions in our services, so unbelievers and believers can grow in God. “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, and I thought as a child.

▶ 56:45 When I became a mature man, I put away childish things.” Did you get that? Is your understanding Christian childishness? Is that the level you’re at? God wants you to know you can grow up. Doesn’t that sound exciting? I mean, who wants to stay a baby all their life? “Be not children in understanding, but in understanding be” what? Mature. Isn’t that a powerful challenge from God to us? Can we grow out of Christian childhood and into a responsible, mature Christian that not only believes the things of God and sees the things of God but possesses the things of God?

▶ 57:53 Absolutely you can, and you will be a powerful, effective force in the earth when you do this. All claim to have the Holy Ghost, yet we argue over baby doctrines, support lifestyles that the Holy Ghost opposes and support doctrines that the Holy Ghost opposes, and everybody claims to be filled with the Holy Ghost.

About this transcript

This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added by hand, and obvious caption errors were corrected; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: he reads “Ephesians 5:8” for “be filled with the Spirit, be not drunk with wine” (about 0:00); that wording is Ephesians 5:18, shown here. At about 47:00 he reads “1 Corinthians 14:16” for “what shall I profit you unless I speak to you”; those words are 1 Corinthians 14:6, shown here. Several names of ministers (about 10:20 and 35:50) and a street name (about 25:00) were garbled in the captions and are marked [unclear]. Passages on Catholics, the Pope, other churches, ministers abroad and a crude aside about what he feared God might make him do (about 22:40) reflect his views as spoken.
