What makes a New Testament service? We assemble and don’t forsake gathering; God’s house is a house of prayer; fasting releases the Spirit’s ministry; audible praise is directed to Jesus; tithing brings blessing; the word grows us from babies to trained soldiers; and each person brings a psalm, teaching or revelation to edify the body.

Why do we gather?

▶ Watch this part (0:12)

Short answer: To learn the benefits, purpose and methods of a New Testament service: to partake of living water and hear Jesus’ teaching.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:12 We’re going to be talking about a New Testament church service this morning. Um the benefits purpose the methods and we’re going to get right into it why are we here this morning what are the methods of uh New Testament church service and what are the benefits. Amen in Matthew. 13:2 says great multitudes were gathered together to him so the purpose is to come to who to come to who say it again why are you here this morning come because of him not us not your friend it’s not my brother not my sister but it’s. Jesus. Amen when you come to those doors remember we’re coming for Christ we’re coming to meet with this to touch to know him Genesis 49:10 confirms so we have a scripture in the New Testament and the Old Testament unto him shall the gathering of the people be unto who Christ Jesus the Lord Luke chapter 5:15 the news about him spread so that the crowds of people came to say that with me hear him him so not only do we come to him he has life for us remember he said it to the woman at the well I I would that you would have asked me and I would give you uh life I would give you living.

▶ 1:42 Water we can come and partake of that living water touching and hearing Jesus and partaking of him but we. Also want need to hear what he has to say his teaching he remember in the when he was on the earth he would teach uh with his disciples he would teach many crowds and multitudes of people they came to hear him and that’s what this says so we the purpose is to touch Jesus and to hear him uh it’s also important to point out that unlike other gods Jesus Christ is real when you pursue him he is there when you pursue him and praise him he shows up his presence is there that doesn’t happen when the God isn’t real. Amen.

Should we prioritize assembling?

▶ Watch this part (2:37)

Short answer: Yes; not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, so much the more as the day approaches.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 2:37 Um very important to understand that Hebrews chapter 10:25 not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another so much more as you see the day approaching so remember every day that we’re on this earth we are closer to the second coming than everyone behind us. Okay so even more so as you see the day approaching uh you know we don’t know when that the last day is but we’re closer than anybody else in the past.

▶ 3:10 And and it says not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together it’s also important that we prioritize coming and assembling in God’s house we stop doing the other activities there’s many things you could have done this morning maybe you had some cleanup maybe you wanted to do some uh leisurely thing with your family but instead you come to God’s house we we for we we don’t forsake the assembly amen very important very powerful the scriptures and also his church remember Jesus is building I will build my church he said and the gates of hell shall not prevail vine cluster we’re named vine cluster because there’s a scripture that says the new wine is in the cluster and so when we’re all separated and not united and not together uh we’re not you know that’s not what God is in yes he’s going to in you know if you’re on an island by yourself yes he’s going to come to you he’s going to save you and all that but the new wine is in the cluster he is building his what church so get into his house do not forsake the assembly.

What is God’s house?

▶ Watch this part (4:31)

Short answer: A house of prayer for all nations, rich or poor; when they prayed the place was shaken.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 4:31 The one of the other methods we have here in Mark 11 verse 17 he taught saying to them it is is it not written my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations but you have made it a den of thieves so when we come into his house it’s a house of prayer it’s a house that is uh dedicated to him pray and lift up his name praying. And. Uh a time where we focus on God and it’s not for just a certain people it’s for what all nations and he spoke this in mark and he was speaking to the Jews amen so that means not just the Jews but what all nations a house of prayer for all nations and that is what God has done throughout the world the Jews had the temple and they had the spot in Jerusalem uh in you know a spot on natural earth but God has changed all that around I will build my church and now his church is everywhere on the planet and you can come and you can gather with his people and you can pray in his house because we are his house and you can all nations can come together and lift up his name Acts 4:31 when they had prayed the place where they were assembled together

▶ 6:02 was shaken they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God with boldness and so God’s house and prayer is for all people the rich the poor the young even if you’re a rich person you may not have a lot of needs you you still have uh intangible needs things that can’t be seen peace joy uh love all the fruits of the spirit are things that you can’t see but uh rich per people may not have. It we want to maintain a freshness and a closeness with God and in your relationships that you have you have to spend time with each other to stay close to one another and praying praying unto God taking time for him keeps your relationship.

Why fast?

▶ Watch this part (6:55)

Short answer: At Antioch they ministered and fasted and the Spirit separated Barnabas and Saul; this kind comes out only by prayer and fasting.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 6:55 Strong amen amen amen. Fasting Acts 13 verse 1 at the Antioch church there were certain prophets and teachers and they ministered to the Lord and fasted the Holy Spirit said now separate unto me Barnabas and Saul for the work that I have called them then having fasted and prayed they laid hands on them and they sent them away if you also remember in the days of Jonah the people they repented they fasted they put sackcloth on on their heads it’s an act of of you know showing some repentance showing some devotion uh in Jonah’s case the people of nineveh they were trying to show God they were trying to get God’s attention and they prayed and they fasted and they put sackcloth on and ashes on their head trying to get God’s attention and show their repentance show their response and that it’s a big.

▶ 7:56 Response and it releases the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the ministries of the word you see here they fasted and God was able to set apart Barnabas and Saul to do a work that he called them for to distribute God’s word fasting is powerful it’s important and so this week I encourage you if you’ve never fasted before I would challenge you to start by skipping one meal this week instead of eating set aside time to read the Bible and pray if you haven’t read the Bible you can start in the book of John or Luke and you know whatever you decide if it’s breakfast lunch or dinner whatever you decide not to eat just set aside that time to read the Bible and take some time to pray if you don’t know how to pray open up the Psalms and pray a Psalm open it up I know Psalms one by heart.

Acts 13:1-2 (NKJV)

Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. Can we pray Scripture?

▶ Watch this part (8:59)

Short answer: Yes; you can pray Psalm 1 back to God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 8:59 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor sits in the seat of the scornful nor stands in the path of sinners but his delight is in what the law of the Lord and that Psalm you can pray it unto him you you you say those words and you say God I pray that I would not stand in the path of sinners Lord I pray that I would not sit with the scornful God I ask that you fulfill this in my heart Lord I pray that I would have delight in your law Lord change my heart so that’s how you can pray the Bible says that his words are spirit and they’re truth so when you pray them and you you ask God to apply it to you it’s very powerful you can also open up a proverb and pray a proverb for wisdom proverb is the book Proverbs is the book of wisdom um if I’m not making sense to you let me just repeat myself John and Luke and Psalms and Proverbs these are books of the Bible all right if you don’t have a Bible we can get you a Bible so I encourage you this week if you you can’t fast or if you’ve never done it before start with one meal and set aside that time to pray and read your Bible all right how many would would accept the challenge all right.

▶ 10:18 Great Mark chapter 9:28 why could not we cast the demon out Jesus answered uh they asked Jesus why could we not cast the demon out and Jesus answered and said this kind can come forth by nothing but prayer and fasting and so fasting and prayer gives you what authority over the kingdom of darkness and you we need authority we need power of the kingdom of darkness now in the scriptures it says that God has put all things under our feet the principalities and powers of darkness he’s put under our feet right they can’t touch you but if you want to have authority over them if you want to have be able to battle them you’re going to have to uh set aside time to pray and to fast if you want to go on the offensive and if you want to start attacking the kingdom of darkness you’ve got to apply these.

▶ 11:21 Principles if you want to be on the defensive yes God is with you but if you want to go on the offensive if you want to attack the kingdom of darkness in your life and sometimes it affects you the kingdom of darkness can affect you and uh you’ve got to know what to do to address. It Luke chapter. 1937 I hope all of you this morning experienced a good time of praise and giving thanks unto God we had a good time of worship I know I was touching God I hope you were.

Why praise?

▶ Watch this part (12:00)

Short answer: The multitude rejoiced for the mighty works they had seen; Paul and Silas sang in prison; bless the Lord at all times, and keep it about Him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 12:00 And I encourage you if if you weren’t it was a good opportunity too and if you want to touch God you can exercise these things over here and just um you know do them and God will come and it will it will be very good for you it has blessed me all my life I encourage you Luke chapter 19:37 the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for for all the mighty works they had seen uh sometimes we forget sometimes we forget all the things that God has done and we want to get in that right mindset where you look back and you can remember and appreciate rejoice and praise God for all the things that he has done uh Paul and Silas if you remember they’re in the prison they were in the jail and they were they were shackled but Paul and Silas began to sing.

▶ 13:00 And thank. God. Amen so what I’m saying is that you can praise God even in your difficult situation David in the scriptures he says I will bless the Lord what at all times his praise shall continually be on my mouth oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together amen so whatever we have going on in our lives David is expressing and saying you can bless and you can praise his name at all times and pretty soon if you start praising him maybe all your days are bad. Right but pretty soon after praising him and praising him and a time goes by hey you you’re starting to have some good days and you’re like oh hallelujah.

▶ 14:00 Amen Luke chapter 19:38 they responded the whole multitude and they said what blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest I bring this up because in worship and in praise you can make it about you you know and come in I am oh I just forgot everything and I I. I me me me me. Me but what are these what are these saying here blessed is the king you are. Worthy you are holy wow. Powerful.

▶ 14:53 Amen you keep it on him you keep it about him you get your eyes off of you yeah we know you’re messed up up we know we got. Problems put it focus it on him amen it’s. Powerful audible praise and worship is directed toward. Jesus we appreciate the things that he has done. Amen Hebrews chapter 13:15 therefore by him let us continually off offer the sacrifice of praise to God that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks unto his name so here again is another example you again you may not feel like it when you come into church it may be a what what.

▶ 15:48 Sacrifice I may not feel like praising I may not feel like this it’s a sacrifice it’s it’s hard. But that’s what God is looking for and you want your sacrifice to turn into your spirit praising. God Luke chapter 24:52 they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing. God. Again so these scriptures are just pointing out God’s house is church are coming together our assembly we are worshiping God this is even in the New Testament here okay they were worshiping him with great joy in the temple praising and blessing his name so praising God is in the New Testament as well not just an Old Testament thing very important for us to understand that giving each one must give as he has decided in his heart not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver I can’t make anyone give and God’s not making you give but that’s what he is uh asked for second Corinthians 9 verse 7 when we bring in our financial offerings.

What about tithing?

▶ Watch this part (17:14)

Short answer: Bring all the tithes into the storehouse and He will open the windows of heaven and rebuke the devourer; his dad taught him to tithe as a teen.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 17:14 Um it it can bless your life and I want to share this blessing with you in Malachi 3:10 if you’ve never heard this it’s important it would be wrong for me not to share this with you it says bring all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be what food in my house so if you want to think of the spiritual thing that there may that there may be the word of God in his house and try me now in this say the Lord of hosts. If says the Lord of hosts pardon me if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it Malachi and the next scripture says in verse 11 I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes growing up when I was a kid my dad would mention this a lot.

▶ 18:13 And be like yeah you got a tithe I didn’t tithe and now I got. Problems he would always encourage me to tithe and so as a teenager I knew the principle and I always did it cuz you know when you’re a teenager and you’re living in a home you’re like you know what’s 90 bucks versus 100 bucks is no big deal uh so it wasn’t that hard so I just learned to always uh operate that principle uh but as you get older and you have all these needs it’s a little harder to give your tithe.

Why the word?

▶ Watch this part (18:50)

Short answer: We are born again of incorruptible seed through the word, and must grow from babies to soldiers trained in boot camp.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 18:50 Amen but there is a blessing God says he’ll rebuke the devourer and that he’ll pour out a blessing on your life and it’s very true many of us can attest to that. Amen 1 Peter 1:23 we’re talking about a New Testament church service it says having been born again not of corruptible seed but incorruptible through the word of God which lives and abides forever if you remember the parable of the swer he’s sowing a seed and that incorruptible seed is what the word of God and that word word of God is what helps you become born again it’s that powerful 1 Peter 2 verse two as newborn babies desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow thereby so when we come together in God’s house this the word of God the words that we’re speaking this morning the songs the scriptures that the scripture song the scripture that was mentioned this morning anytime you mention the scriptures it’s all there to help you grow.

▶ 20:01 Amen and we need to grow you don’t want to stay a baby all right I remember being a 11-year-old and my friends were teenagers or some one of my friends was a teenager and he was going to the teen group and he was like oh Mike it’s so it’s so fun he’s like the best and I’m like I want to go but I couldn’t go cuz I wasn’t old enough I hadn’t grown yet and it’s important for us to grow it’s important for us to grow you want to advance from a baby who is completely dependent on somebody for their life into a child you’re not so dependent anymore and to a young adult you’re less dependent now you got an attitude and then then you’re an adult and you’re taking care of yourself so you see that growth right God’s not um there’s stages in your life where you’re you’re completely dependent on God for everything and then you grow and you start being able to take care of yourself you start being able to put your his word into you you’re praying you’re growing into an an asset and you would never put a baby on the battlefield you’d never put a child on the battlefield and even that attitude kid with his attitude at 13 years old thinking he knows everything you wouldn’t put him on the battlefield you want that and uh God says you’re not an adult till 20 and they put military kids in at

▶ 21:31 18 but let’s not split hairs all right butth before they’re put on the battlefield they are brought into what boot camp right you go into boot camp and you get training get disciplined you get shaped and formed into what they want you to be and that’s the same way with God God wants to bring you and help you grow and you grow by the word of God and exercising all of these things prayer fasting praise very important it will be the most beneficial thing in your life even as a young person Matthew 8:8 the centurion said only speak what a word and my servant will be healed so the word of God is so powerful it helps us grow it helps us it’s it’s what causes us to be born again it’s that seed and it it brings healing it can can bring healing in your life I remember through many problems that I’ve had in my past the word of God was very helpful and sometimes it’s.

What if I get nothing out of it?

▶ Watch this part (22:41)

Short answer: Keep at it; when they heard, they were cut to the heart, and the word washes us.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 22:41 Just I didn’t get anything out of that but you keep going you keep at it you put more into your heart that keep that word going and pretty soon God speaks to you uh even when you’re frustrated you keep going amen Acts chapter 2:37 when they heard the what the word they were cut to the heart did somebody take a sword and cut them no meant they were convicted in their heart in their mind uh the word of God came and they they felt that conviction and they wanted to respond they were cut and there were there were several different kinds of responses people that were cut to the heart they got up and they were they were going to hit and they were going to kill uh stepen they were cut to the heart and some people got cut to the heart and they said what can we do to be saved and so it’s God’s responsibility to bring people to conviction but people we have a responsibility to respond either right to respond right to God and just because people respond wrong doesn’t mean you did anything wrong all right they have we have that choice Ephesians 5:25 Christ loved the church and gave himself for her that he might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by

▶ 24:11 the word I’m just bringing up the scripture because it talks about washing the word of God cleanses and it washes us very important so what are the benefits of us of this purpose the the reason we come together. The methods that we implement the benefits that we get here in Psalms 22:3 you are holy that inhabits the praises of Israel when we come together we praise God we pray we lift up his name we speak his word he comes he comes and backs it up he comes with his presence during worship when the word is spoken he will speak to you and that is the hope that I have and that we have is that God will speak to you the spirit of God will use these scriptures to convict and and work on you so it’s so important that you come in to God’s house and you give him praise he inhabits what the praise so if you come in and you’re not.

Where is Jesus present?

▶ Watch this part (25:18)

Short answer: Where two or three gather in His name; sinners, addicts and tax collectors sat with Jesus.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 25:18 Praising God God’s like hey uh should I come in or or is this not is this did I come to the wrong place. Did I get uh the reservation. Wrong Matthew 18:20 there were two or three for where two or three are gathered together in my name there I am in the midst and so here the New Testament here is confirming what the Old Testament is saying it’s important that we have two or three witnesses amen I’m just pointing that out we want God to show up God can heal sick b ies he can cast out demons he can save sinners he can bring add people to his church he can put people into his body anoint believers to speak the word he can men broken hearts and fill us with joy but we have got to come in his way together the way he says to mark chapter 134 he healed many that were sick a diverse of diverse diseases and cast out many devils Mark 25 many publicans and sinners those government officials my goodness we live in california we’re all ah the government well some uh tax collectors came they were coming into God’s house and they were repenting sinners were repenting you got the you got the people that are you know just ignoring God because they’re

▶ 26:49 working you got people that are addicted to drugs and really just knocking on death’s door they’re sinning like crazy and they were coming. In they were coming to Jesus they sat together with Jesus can you imagine these uh you know we’re sitting here and then all these government officials came in they sit hey I want to sit who are these guys are you going to let them sit with. You yes Christ is after everyone he wants sinners he wants government people publicans tax collectors everybody that uh nobody.

▶ 27:33 Likes there were many and they followed him yeah so let me point you know let me dwell on that for just a second everybody that uh those that are hated by others have you been hated by others are you looked down on well Christ wants to reach you and he wants to pull you out of that sin out of that shame Luke chapter 9 verse1 he called his disciples together and gave them what power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases he sent them to what preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick so important see when we’re coming together we have this service time so important so powerful we we see these 12 disciples you anytime they were together they were having church you know that’s more than two or three right so they were having he gave them power and authority.

▶ 28:30 The assembly is so important even if it’s his 12 disciples assembling together he sent them to. Preach and as this scripture already shared before in Acts 4:31 when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God with confidence and we need that. We need that in our lives amen we need to be. Shaken we need the Holy Spirit upon us and in us amen and we need to open our mouth and speak his word right now when we open our mouths some things come out and we’re like oh.

What should each of us bring?

▶ Watch this part (29:23)

Short answer: Each has a psalm, a teaching, a tongue, a revelation or interpretation, for edification; homework is to bring one next week.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 29:23 What I shouldn’t have said that. See God wants to change our mouths. Amen so it’s so important coming together assembling the church is powerful it’s important 1 Corinthians 14:26 whenever you come together each of you has a Psalm a teaching a tongue Revelation and interpretation let all things be done for edification building up the body. I will pray with the spirit and pray with understanding I will sing with the spirit and sing with. Understanding on the back of your sheet if you grabbed. One there’s um some. Homework and this week I’d like to uh request that you pick one of those things maybe it’s a prayer maybe it’s a Psalm that is powerful to you whatever it may be but take some time this week you got seven days and when you come back you can put you can share with us what God has put on your heart whenever you come together are we together today are we going to be together next week okay.

▶ 30:45 Well each did you did you see this word right here each of you now I mean we can’t go through everybody but at least you have something and then the following week you’ll still have something because it was ready you know if you don’t if we don’t get to it this Sunday. Amen uh each of you has a what a Psalm you pull out your Bible find a psalm find a Psalm you can go on chat gpt and if God spoke to you and said you know um God wants me to speak better you say okay chat gpt what are scriptures and Psalms that talk about speaking better and they’ll give you like 10 script scriptures okay there it’s 2024 there’s no excuses anymore that’s all I’m saying all right you can find this information there is you know you it’s all there.

▶ 31:45 Okay a Psalm a teaching a tongue. Revelation uh interpretation somebody’s like a Revelation a Revelation. Yeah you could be reading in the Bible like this morning we’re talking about uh Jesus walking or Mary walking into Elizabeth and John leaping out of his womb well we need to rejoice and leap you know that’s like a little bit of Revelation. Little but that’s good. Amen let all things be done for what edification we don’t come in and be like thus say the Lord you shall. Die thus sayth the Lord you are.
