My Faith: The Shape of Faith: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Continuing “My Faith,” Pastor David G. Kincer shows from Genesis 18:19 and Job 19 that knowing God—not mere belief—shaped Abraham’s and Job’s character and endurance. From 1 John, John 16 and Hosea 6 he teaches knowing God as a goal beyond basics, warns against celebrity substitutes for Scripture, and closes with Daniel 11:32: people who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits.
How does Genesis 18:19 show God knowing Abraham?
Short answer: From Genesis 18:19 God says “I know Abraham”—God knew Abraham and Abraham knew God. God knew his character so well he knew Abraham would command his household to keep the way of the Lord to do justice and judgment.
▶ 0:00 Let’s look at some of the evidence the benefits the results of knowing God and God knowing you going to Genesis 18:19 this is very powerful these these two we’re going to go to Job and then we’re after we go to Genesis in Job 1819 this is very powerful God said I. Know Abraham wow. See God knew Abraham, Abraham knew God all right and I know that he will command his children and his household after him and they’ll keep the way of the Lord to do justice and judgment you see he knew Abraham so well he knew Abraham’s character he knew what Abraham was how he was going to behave he knew Abraham what he’s going to say in what is going to do till the day he died he knew Abraham and when.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 18:19 (NKJV)
For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
— Genesis 18:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:10What did Job know about his Redeemer without the Law?
Short answer: From Job 19:25 Job said “I know my Redeemer lives,” not merely “I believe.” He lived before Moses’ teaching, yet knowing God—not just believing—enabled him to endure losing children, wealth and health without renouncing God or charging him foolishly.
▶ 1:03 We know God we know his character. We know what pleases him we know what he wants. Now let’s go to Job chapter 19 verse 25. Job. Lives somewhere. Before Moses is time Job is very old he didn’t have the teaching that we have today I my point is this. Job didn’t have the teaching Job didn’t have the law even talked to him yet he didn’t have the prophets revealing what God was going to do. Are you are you with me we got the teaching we got the apostles and prophets to teach us Job didn’t have that but in Job 19 verse 25 what did Job say I know my Redeemer lives I know my redeemer is alive I know that.
▶ 2:16 He didn’t say I believed my redeemer is alive I believe my redeemer forgives me of my sins he didn’t say I have faith that my Redeemer. He said what I know. Then all of a sudden our understanding is opened up to why Job could handle what he handled his kids being killed before their time losing all of his wealth losing his health and yet he would not renounce God and he never charged God foolishly because he knew God he didn’t just believe in God he knew God I know my redeemer is alive redeemer is the one to purchase your the purchaser of you he bought me he knew Jesus was going to come God in the flesh and died for the sins of the world and redeemed the world Job knew that when it hadn’t been taught it wasn’t being taught then are you with me but he knew the character of God when you know God you know his character like Abraham was known by God and God knew Abraham’s character and knew how was going to act and behave and talk when we know God we know his character we know what he was going to do I used to tell people as a young Christian I don’t know the scriptures but what you’re saying is not the
Scripture in this part
Job 19:25-27 (NKJV)
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
— Job 19:25-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:05Can you know God’s nature before you know all the Scriptures?
Short answer: As a young Christian he told people “what you’re saying is not the nature of my God” before he had all the verses. You can know God’s nature before you know all the Scriptures; do not try to clean the fish before they are caught—let him know you and clean you up. Job also knew the Redeemer would stand at last on the earth and that after death he would see God in his flesh.
▶ 3:47 nature of my God it is not the way my God would act the God that I met would not do that and lay there I got the scriptures to back up what I knew the nature of God was and we need them both. But you can know God’s nature before you know all the scriptures our problems we’re trying to learn all the scriptures you’re trying to clean the fish before they’re even caught. You know you clean fish after you catch them get it we can’t line up ourselves to be good enough to be acceptable to God we let him get as we let him know us we get to know him and he can clean us up hallelujah. Listen to this he not only knew that God was going to redeem him he not only knew that God was alive he wasn’t something just thought of in the head but he said my God my redeemer will stand at last on the earth you see he knew Jesus is going to come and down the cross and do these things and he knew Jesus is going to come again after the first time you see.
▶ 5:06 Verse 26 after my skin is destroyed after my flesh is I’m dead the worms have eaten me or the fish if I’ve thrown into the sea dead the fish eat me and they pooped me out and I’m scattered all over he says you know if I burn up in a fire whatever he says after my flesh is gone I know my Redeemer lives I. Know not believe I know that in my flesh I will see God he knew God was going to bring those ashes and those those that dust back together make a human being that was God a fleshly being that was going to be joined with that spirit and stand before God and he was going to see God in a new body Job knew that before he had all the teaching that we have and what did he know that because he knew God he had an intimate personal relationship with God and knew God’s character and when you know someone’s character you know what they’re going to do.
▶ 6:17 You know how they’re going to handle the situation in this powerful yeah. Now and then he says I will see him for myself and not another hell my heart yearns within me how my heart desires him how my heart. Yearns for my God that I know and yearns to stand before him on that day at the end see he has a he has an inward motivation he has an inward drive why from a relationship of knowing God. Am I getting this through oh.
▶ 7:11 Yeah now this is just reading through the Bible stuff and I keep telling you that because if I can get you to start reading your Bible and studying a valuable God can talk to you. God can talk though trouble with America is there getting the books out of the Christian bookstore tapes from the big churches the mega churches and they’re putting their faith and confidence at everything in them instead of this buck and if I can get you to say you know if God can tell that bird brain dad while he’s studying the Bible then I’m gonna uh d and read the Bible he can talk to me and I say amen that’s what he wants but most American Christians never break this book they go around they carry the Bible never read it and most I’ve known in carry the Bible cuz I ain’t got time to read it yet they say they’re Christians.
— Job 19:25-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:07How did knowing God shape Job’s faith and behavior?
Short answer: He says Job’s knowing God shaped his faith and behavior, because we behave from what we believe. From Job 1:1 Job was blameless, upright, feared God and shunned evil—because he knew God as a God of truth who hates evil that hurts people.
▶ 8:12 Oh yeah. Folks you gotta have time to eat spiritual food you just got to take time and it changes your life I guarantee it changes your life now. Listen to this statement joab’s knowing God shaped. Jobs faith and shaped jobs behavior because we behave from what we believe we put our faith in now did you get that statement so we go to Job 1:1 and we find out what kind of character Job had what was the result of Job knowing God how did knowing God shape him Job 11 powerful Job was blameless.
▶ 9:07 Job was upright. Job feared God and the Bible says the fear of God is to depart from evil okay and then it says and Job hated evil shunned evil see from his relationship with God from him knowing God and encountering God Job hated evil Job turned from evil Job did what was right because he knew that God was a God of truth a God of right a God that hated evil because evil hurt you and hurts others in that powerful. So we know why Job was the way he was he knew God and when he lost his kids yeah that was hurt but it didn’t stagger he didn’t hit anything better than I in Americans something bad happens we just fall apart why cuz we don’t know him we’re told to believe in and we keep him in the head and we don’t have him in our spirit and it weakens us.
Scripture in this part
Job 1:1 (NKJV)
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.
— Job 1:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:04 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Proverbs 8:13 (NKJV)
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
— Proverbs 8:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:13 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does 1 John say about claiming to know God?
Short answer: First John 2:4: he who says “I know God” and does not keep his commandments is a liar. First John 4:6: he who knows God hears the apostles; he who is not of God does not hear them. Believers should follow the apostles’ doctrine—Jesus’ and the prophets’—not every celebrity teacher’s five-step procedure.
▶ 10:21 Alleluia and God don’t want us weak he wants us strong. First John 2:4. First John 2:4 the evidence the results the benefits of knowing God and God knowing you first John 24 says he who says I know God and does not keep his commandments is a liar. And. The truth is not in him now they believe. But they don’t want no and because they don’t know him they don’t keep his word they keep their faith they keep their beliefs or their church’s beliefs and First John 4:6 this is really powerful. This is really Paul First John 4:6 John who is an apostle he says we us apostles Matthew, John, Peter you know all these twelve apostles he says we.
▶ 11:30 The apostles are of God he who knows God hears who us apostles I me know Acts says they followed in the apostles doctrine they didn’t follow some body just raised up and somebody with a hair in their nose they followed whoa the apostles doctrine and the apostles taught whose doctrine Jesus’ doctrine and the prophets of old and our problem in America as we’re listen to every Tom, Dick and Harry out there saying they got the Revelation when we need to be listening to anyway James and Paul and these apostles we need to be listening to what Jesus said and realize that he is able to open up the Bible to us make us strong through the Bible we can get to know him and we don’t need these people saying no the Lord and boy you got to help my five step procedure and I my 12 step procedure and this still proceed we don’t need your procedures we need Jesus Christ and we need the living word and we need to know him then look out world.
▶ 12:42 See I can handle anything that comes when I know him like Job did whether it’s death whether it’s health whether you lose your money or whatever somebody doesn’t like you his friends come along and they weren’t friends at all. And joke didn’t take his Bible and go home. Hidden run from problem didn’t run from his friends it didn’t run from the deaths he didn’t run from anything he hung in there strong and in the end he won. But all American Christians know how to do is run we run for my marriage we run from our parents we run yeah we’re runners why because we don’t know him we believe but we don’t know it. Are you with me could that be true yes.
▶ 13:43 He who knows God hears us not our own faith not our others faith but the apostles and Jesus he who does not know God does not hear us well you know Paul meant this well you know Jesus really meant that and oh well you know no they met what they meant. God doesn’t change because society changes God is the same yesterday today and forever the word is the same yesterday to him forever. And all the homosexuals made a Bible that’s got God a woman and you know she turned he does she and all that you can’t do that get write your own book. Because society is changing. By this we know the spirit of truth in a spirit of error when I listen to or Robert Schuller.
Scripture in this part
1 John 2:4 (NKJV)
He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
— 1 John 2:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:211 John 4:6 (NKJV)
We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
— 1 John 4:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:21Why do believing Christians mistreat Christians who know God?
Short answer: From John 16:1–3 Jesus says they will put you out of the synagogue and kill you because they have not known the Father nor him. The Father’s nature is to love enemies and one another even when you disagree; without knowing him, people mistreat those outside their little area of faith.
▶ 14:43 Cliff old Dollar or whoever instead of the scriptures the apostles the prophets and Jesus I am entering into the spirit of error. When I stick with the apostles doctrine Jesus’ doctrine the prophets of old doctrine I am I exercise in the spirit of truth. Hello. We got to get jealous for the book now. Why. Do believer Christians we’re going to go to John chapter 16 verse 1 why do believer Christians mistreat. Talk about. Christians that no God.
▶ 15:40 Christians that know Jesus and Christians have followed the Bible why do other believing Christians do that why do Christians fight with Christians. You ever asked yourself these questions. This is what you can learn when you sit down and give God time studying and reading the Bible alright. John 16:1 through 3 he starts out in verse 1 saying they’re going to put you out of the synagogue they’re going to murder you / Matthew 24 and the other end time scriptures he talks about they’re going to beat you. They’re going to take your possession that’s what they did at Paul’s time he would come and take their possession drive them from their homes driving from the city from the nation they’re going to mistreat you they’re going to murder you they’re going to put you out of the synagogue you’re not a real Christian why why do they do these things these things he said in verse 3 they will do unto you because they have not known the father nor me.
▶ 16:53 Because the nature of the father is to love your enemy. The nature of the father is to love one another even when you disagree with one another that’s the nature of the father and so when they don’t know him they mistreat those outside their little area of faith and believe. Church that is really hot stuff I trust your hallelujah. See when we blame our church when we blame America. Were lying we lack. Knowing God or we would try to pick America back up we would try to pull the church back together if it can’t be pulled together.
Scripture in this part
John 16:1-3 (NKJV)
“These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.
— John 16:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:06Is knowing God separate from basic salvation steps?
Short answer: He says knowing God is a separate experience from repenting, forgiveness and water baptism—a goal to shoot for. Hosea 6:1–3: after returning to the Lord, “then shall you know, if you follow on to know the Lord.” John 8:31–32: if believers continue in his word they shall know the truth and be free.
▶ 17:54 Sometimes it just can’t be yeah some churches that say their church is just our churches you need to find yourself a real charts could that be an amen well you know you should be coming to hear God’s word and to meet with God not some socializing and define a man or a woman or or we sell insurance to somebody in the congregation. Now I want to tell you that knowing God is a separate experience in repenting forgiveness water baptism and these basic things it’s a separate experience it is a goal we shoot for ok. Remember in Hosea 6 verse 1 through 3 come let us return to the Lord see let us repent he said ok come let us repent let’s turn back to God all right then he goes on to say when you do that then shall you know if you follow on to know the Lord so do we gotta follow on after we’re saved do we gotta follow on after we’re water baptized yeah we got to follow on.
▶ 19:14 See if you follow on to know the Lord. Knowing the Lord is going to come if you just keep following. Hallelujah. Then you’ll be able to say I don’t have the Bible answer for that yet but that’s not the nature of my God. Then that puts them on the defense to show you that God would do such a thing hey man. You remember also in Hebrews I mean John 8:31. Jesus looked at those that believed upon him and he says if you continue that these are believers he’s talking to his friend says that the Jews who believed on him he says to these believing Jews if you continue in my word my word my word then shall you be my disciples indeed and you shall know the truth and the truth will make you free well who’s the truth Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life the spirit is the spirit of truth see we will know him if we continue in the word we continue following we will get to the place where we know our God.
Scripture in this part
Hosea 6:1-3 (NKJV)
Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.
— Hosea 6:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:45John 8:31-32 (NKJV)
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
— John 8:31-32 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:14Do you need apologetics and positive-thinking systems if you know God?
Short answer: Under the new covenant all shall know him from least to greatest. When you know God you do not need apologetics over crow-count debates, nor positive thinking, Possibility Thinking, Purpose Driven or prosperity psychology—Job stood because he knew God. You also do not need a weekly prophecy line; Jesus taught the word.
▶ 20:38 And nothing can move us. Hallelujah. You know it’s part of a new covenant don’t you. Yeah you’re under the new covenant new covenant is all shall know them know him from the least to the greatest in that what he said and most Christians can’t even quote me the covenant let alone pursue it because they’re not taught their top faith come on I’m not lying to you everything’s about faith everything’s about faith ever think about faith and I submit to you. When you know God you don’t need apologetics. For those of you don’t know what apologetics is it’s questions and answers about the Bible the vague thing—did the crow two times or three times when I knew God I could care less how many times the crow I know my God oh yeah I don’t need an apologetic answer I know the nature of my God I know my God is real and nothing moves me so don’t go tearing down the Bible because one gospel says to crow twice and another says it’s three times don’t even go there I know my God is real like joke I know he’s alive amen.
▶ 22:06 You don’t need positive thinking will just be positive now no negative confessions just positive confess I don’t need to go through that psychological rigmarole I don’t need possibility thinking positive thinking I don’t need Purpose Driven thinking I don’t need prosperity thinking I found out Job knew his God and he didn’t need any kind of psychology he knew his God and he could stand. Hallelujah. That’s good stuff that comes right from God I. Don’t need a prophecy every week to build me up that the church is in a prophecy dilemma and we.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 8:11 (NKJV)
None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
— Hebrews 8:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:50 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
— Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:38 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How does knowing God change prayer, worship and assembling?
Short answer: When you know God you pray, worship, lift hands and assemble because the Master said to—not Simon-says religion or staying away over hurt feelings. You come as a participator to seek him, build the church and share Jesus.
▶ 22:57 Were at a meeting last year where they’re going to prophesy over everybody enough in the congregation that’s not even scriptural. No we’re in the Bible did they line up the multitude okay oh thus saith the Lord you would be there forever Jesus had thousands following him and he taught the word that’s the prophecy he taught the word a man. But there’s people going from this minister that meant another prophecy they got 20,000 prophecies and they still can’t handle the control their life. When you know God you pray because the master says to pray when you know God you worship and praise because the master said the prayer that pleases him you lift up your hands because God says do know given this simon says stuff and we’re about God said lift your hands clap your hands lift your voice God said it and when you know God you want to please him you know his nature.
▶ 24:07 Your time you assemble together you know stay away from church because some bullying the church is bullying you. Or somebody didn’t smile at you last Sunday. You go to church because the master said assemble together even the more so as you see the day approaching provoking one another to love and good works you come to seek him and you come to build the church you come the babies you want to see them grow the ones in between you want to see them grow those having a hard time you want to see them go through it you come to church because you are a participator of something that is great in the earth you are part of it. Because you know him you read you study the Bible and you share Jesus and the wisdom of his word.

— Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:09 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What happens to people who know their God (Daniel 11:32)?
Short answer: Daniel 11:32: the people who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits. The requirement is knowing God; the benefit is strength like Job, Abraham and Paul—you will not quit, and knowing him drives right speech and living.
▶ 25:05 One last scripture powerful Daniel chapter 11 verse 32 please turn that Daniel. 11 32 and closing I can’t read without underlining writing notes on the side God talks to me and I don’t want to forget it I found out in my young age that forget it that these pentecostals were wrong boy hallelu I don’t have to memorize nothing I don’t have to have notes or anything the Holy Ghost will just tell me what to say no you got to use common sense. Don’t be afraid to write in that book it’s just paper there’s nothing holy about the paper the holiness is in the world the powers in the world and I said that because I met a lot of people who won not right in the Bible and I that’s ridiculous.
▶ 26:05 Ok Daniel 11:32 the people that do know their God number one what do these people what’s the characteristic of them they know God what’s the result what’s the benefit they shall be strong and do what great. Exploits hello. Amen what’s the requirement knowing God what’s the benefit you will be strong like Job you will be strong like Abraham you will be strong like these men of old Paul and them you won’t shake you won’t quit the Bible says love never quit you won’t give up you’ll keep going you’ll keep pursuing and you will be a winner because you know him and it will drive you to respond right speak right live right adjust it will drive you.
