Moses Like Jesus: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Walking through Stephen’s sermon in Acts 7, this message shows how Moses was a prophet like Jesus: both fled a king, were rejected by their own, were sent by God to deliver, and did signs and wonders. The Red Sea pictures the torn veil, the golden calf pictures man-made religion, and God wants to dwell not in buildings but in us by his Spirit.
Who was Stephen and why was he opposed?
Short answer: Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders while serving tables for widows. Religious opponents in Acts 6 could not stand against his wisdom or the Spirit by which he spoke, so they falsely accused him of blasphemy and brought him before the Sanhedrin, where he preached and was stoned.
▶ 0:00 But you got three guys that we’re going to talk about today we have Moses of course we know about him in the Old Testament Jesus that’s what it’s all about and Stephen who talked about these two people and uh if you don’t know who Stephen was Stephen in the Bible he was in the New Testament times after Jesus Christ had been killed and rose from the dead after all that had happened Stephen was there uh the Bible says he was full of grace and power it says that he did great wonders and miraculous signs miracles this guy and what was he doing the Bible says he was serving tables they had a a ministry where they would serve widows and and orphans and this guy was there serving tables you know from the onset it just seems like he was a regular guy pursuing Christ the religious people found out he was doing all these great signs and these great wonders and the miracles and they come they were coming after him because they didn’t.
▶ 1:03 Like the message of Jesus Christ and this guy was spreading it backing it up with power and it was excellent so they were coming after him opposition arose the Sanhedrin the synagogue of the freed men all these people if you read it they in acts chapter 6 they were coming to argue with him they want to argue say you’re wrong Jesus is not the way he’s not the messiah you’re wrong you’re wrong you’re wrong and it says that Stephen when he spoke they could not stand up against his wisdom or the spirit by which he spoke he not only had a convincing message but inside he had the spirit of God he was portraying he was when he delivered he had the spirit and that makes a big difference when you have the real thing it makes a big. Difference and so because they couldn’t get him to shut up they falsely accused him they said that he was blaspheming the the temple or Moses and all that and they seized him they brought him before the Sanhedrin before the religious people there his standing and uh a lot of you know what happened to him but he preached this excellent message from when I was since I was a teenager I always liked this story of Stephen and when Stephen would preach I would read that part I’d fall asleep because I just didn’t know what he was talking about I was like how is this message powerful uh it just wasn’t getting.
Scripture in this part
Acts 6:8-10 (NKJV)
And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.
— Acts 6:8-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:31 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Did Christ or his apostles kill in God’s name?
Short answer: The speaker says Stephen never hurt anyone, Jesus was beaten and spit on, and the apostles were martyred. Jesus sent them out harmless as doves and wise as serpents. Christ kills the sin inside you; you don’t cut off people’s heads in God’s name.
▶ 2:33 In and uh praise God God is good he really does illuminate things and that’s why you read the Bible more than one time because when you read it the second time he he he speaks to you if you’ll listen and then you read it the third time and the fourth time he speaks to you he opens it up it’s really excellent so we want to learn about what Stephen was talking and hopefully you won’t fall asleep like I used to too so here’s the story uh at the end he was stoned to death by religious people and I want to use this here as an opportunity uh he never hurt anyone never killed anyone you know Jesus Christ was murdered Jesus Christ was punched in the face they punched him they the Romans punched him beat him they spit in his face the apostles all of the apostles apart from John were martyred they were killed.
▶ 3:31 And here today in our hour they want to compare Christ to what they are doing in other countries they’re murdering people in the name of God Allahu Akbar is what they say when they behead somebody I mean I’ve seen it it’s real and it’s just not true Jesus Christ when he sent out his apostles he said be harmless as. Doves gentle as doves and wise as. Serpents and they didn’t hurt anybody they preached the gospel and that’s powerful you see when when the real thing is backing it up when the real thing is involved anything can happen it’s the real. Thing you don’t need to kill people God can do it from the inside he can change from the inside now our our fleshly man our inside the bad guy inside needs to be killed but you don’t go and cut off people’s heads you don’t go and you shoot them kill them that’s not how we get it done Christ will come inside and he’ll kill the sin and the darkness the kingdom of darkness inside you and that’s what needs to.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:16 (NKJV)
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
— Matthew 10:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:55 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Who is the prophet like Moses?
Short answer: Acts 7:37: Moses told Israel God would send a prophet like me from your own people—Jesus Christ. Like Joseph, Abraham and Esther, Moses’ life was an event God used to illustrate what Christ would do.
▶ 4:46 Happen so we we can keep living we have an opportunity to turn and follow Jesus that’s the goal anyway put to death for preaching the truth so what did Stephen say I want I just want you guys to understand here’s Stephen and he’s speaking to these guys and he he he he talks a lot a lot of people I want to talk about Moses when he gets to Moses in Acts 7:37 he says this is that Moses who told the Israelites God will send you a prophet like me from your own people and what is it talking about here so here is Moses speaking and Moses said to the Israelites the people God will send you a prophet like me from your own people so who are we talking about the prophet like me of course is who Jesus Christ the one talking is Moses and Moses is saying that the prophet is going to be like me so here you have uh mr Stephen here is saying Moses is going to be like me so and he goes on to say this and we’re going to see how they were similar just like Joseph was similar just like Abraham and what he did with was similar just like Esther and all those things that we’ve learned it’s very similar God is preaching and teaching about what he’s going to do when he comes the Old Testament is all pointing to when Christ came and died and rose all of those historical
▶ 6:17 events God used. Events he put events into play thousands of years ago to talk about what would happen he didn’t just say it was going to happen he used people to illustrate it that’s an awesome God it’s powerful and that’s why I say the word is powerful because he backs it up with truth not just truth but something that no man could do we don’t transcend time like God does but he does and he can do this kind of thing because he is eternal he’s. Real so there’s Moses and there’s Jesus. Christ so how is Moses like Jesus we’re going to look at what Stephen said what the New Testament says in today’s.

Acts 7:37 (NKJV)
“This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.’
— Acts 7:37 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:08How did Moses and Jesus both flee a king?
Short answer: Exodus 2:15: Pharaoh sought to slay Moses and he fled to Midian. Matthew 2:13: Herod sought the young child to destroy him and Joseph fled with Jesus to Egypt.
▶ 7:06 Application in Exodus 2:15 Pharaoh sought to slay Moses and these are just little examples okay Pharaoh sought to slay Moses uh because Moses was um he went to defend one of his brethren and he killed an egyptian and buried him in the sand so Pharaoh found out and he sought to slay Moses and Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh Moses fled from a king he left Egypt and went to Midian in Matthew 2: 13 we have Jesus here and king Herod finds out from the wise men that came that there is a king being. Born and so Herod is now looking for this king and the angel appeared to Joseph saying flee into Egypt and stay until I bring you word so here Jesus has to flee to Egypt but he’s fleeing from a king that wants to kill him Moses was fleeing away from Egypt but it’s still it’s an interesting illustration for Herod will seek the young child to destroy.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 2:15 (NKJV)
When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.
— Exodus 2:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:06Matthew 2:13 (NKJV)
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
— Matthew 2:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:38What does “why do you fight with your fellow” teach the church?
Short answer: Exodus 2:13: Moses asked two Hebrews why they fought each other. John 13:34: love one another as I have loved you. The church has a goal—stop fighting and hurting each other.
▶ 8:14 Him Herod wanted to kill him so there they are traveling and that’s just a small illustration we’re going to go on here Exodus 2:13 Moses said why do you fight with your fellow servant now this is happening during while he’s killing this guy and putting him in the sand uh the egyptian that was attacking the Israelites the next day there were two Hebrews fighting with each other he said why do you fight with your fellow servant us in the church here Jesus said a new commandment I give to you in John 13:34 that you love one. Another as I have loved you so also love one another and that’s hard to do you know in the church you got to love one another and here you know there’s examples in the scriptures this is just a small example that Moses is talking about here why are you why are you fighting with your brother why do we fight with one another we’ve got a goal we’ve got we’ve got a goal here there’s we’re headed somewhere let’s let’s work on the goal stop fighting and hurting each other amen let’s work with each.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 2:13 (NKJV)
And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?”
— Exodus 2:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:23John 13:34 (NKJV)
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
— John 13:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:44How were Moses and Jesus both rejected?
Short answer: Acts 7:27: “who made you a ruler and judge over us?” Jesus was rejected in his own country (Matthew 13:54–57), by the high priest, and sentenced by Pilate. Acts 4:11–12: the stone the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone; there is no other name by which we must be saved.
▶ 9:21 Other Moses was rejected in Acts 7:27 it’s just interesting how he uses these terminologies you you read the new the Old Testament you read the New Testament and and Stephen is bringing this together he’s trying to show how these things relate Acts 7:27 who made you a ruler and judge over us now Moses just said to those two that were fighting he said why do you fight with your brother and then their reply was who made you a ruler and judge over us are you going to kill me like you killed the egyptian come on what’s your problem I don’t need to listen to you. They’re basically saying to Moses talk to the hand.
▶ 10:05 And of course we know in Matthew 13:54-55 and several other examples Jesus came to teach in his own country his own where he was born where they knew him and they were astonished at his wisdom they were astonished at how much he knew and how uh what he could do but then they said is this not not the carpenter’s son we know this family we know the carpenter Joseph we know their sister his sisters and his brothers we know about his father and his mary’s mother and it says they were offended at him they rejected him and you know it goes on to say that he left and didn’t do very many miracles there why because they didn’t. Believe the priests rejected him the high priest rejected him he stood before the high priest and the high priest accused him of all these things and Jesus told the high priest plainly you know I am the son of God I am the one I the messiah the high priest just you know wanted the high priest wanted to kill.
▶ 11:15 Him the cities that we just talked about civil leaders Pilate sentenced him to death a roman execution he wiped he said I wipe my hands to this but he still had him do it you know he didn’t intervene here so Jesus was rejected and of course in Acts 4: 11 the stone which the builders rejected you builders now this isn’t acts this is after Jesus died after he rose this is acts the book after John and it says the stone that you builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone and what is it talking about it’s talking about Jesus they rejected Jesus Christ they rejected the messiah they rejected him as the builder of the church and now he’s become the chief cornerstone he is the foundation he’s the rock we all know that this is you know basic on earth Jesus is the rock that the church is founded on the church is built on nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given among.
▶ 12:20 Men by which we must be saved he says I am the way the truth and the life none come to the father but by me he says I am my father are one and we people that reject Christ anyone is rejecting God and that’s that’s that’s hard to accept but it’s the truth Jesus is the real one he’s the one that has power he’s the one that. Is the deliverer he’s the one that can do it he’s the one he’s the door you can’t get through the kingdom of heaven but by him. He’s the only way and when you reject. Christ you’re rejecting the door you’re settling for a form of godliness and you’re denying the power that Christ.
Scripture in this part
Acts 7:27 (NKJV)
But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
— Acts 7:27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:25Matthew 13:54-57 (NKJV)
When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”
— Matthew 13:54-57 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:05Acts 4:11-12 (NKJV)
This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
— Acts 4:11-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:34How was Moses a deliverer like Jesus?
Short answer: Acts 7:34: God saw the oppression of his people, heard their groaning, and came down to set them free by sending Moses. As Abraham said, “God will provide who? Himself,” and God came down in Christ. Luke 4:18: the Spirit is upon me to preach deliverance to the captives.
▶ 13:15 Has and these are just basic that’s the most basic doctrine but it’s so important you’ve got to understand that Christ is the key all right se Acts 7:34 this is Stephen he’s talking he’s giving this great message and here I am sleeping as a teenager as you know I’m just saying oh man Stephen he’s getting killed this is. Awesome 7:34 I have indeed seen the oppression of my people this is this is Stephen talking to the Sanhedrin I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt and he’s talking about uh Moses uh no God is talking to Moses in this you know you know Stephen is illustrating this I have heard their groaning and I have come down to set them free and I will send you now who’s the eyes who’s the use this is.
▶ 14:12 Important I’ve seen the oppression of my people of course you know that they lived in slavery. Right I have heard their groaning and I have come down to set them free and he’s going to use a certain person who did he use we all know this he sent God sent who to Egypt. Moses and Moses became the deliverer now I want you to also understand this 400 years the Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt before Christ came there were 400 years where God didn’t say anything the silent years right am I am I wrong about this no the silent years that’s what there was that’s what was going. On and you know God is using. He did the same thing in Moses’s day that he did when he came 400 years they were enslaved 400 years before Christ came they’re enslaved to sin were enslaved to sin and when Christ came he set people free when he died when he rose he set the world free you see here it’s talking Moses set Israel free from Egypt but now Jesus is coming to set the whole world free and it’s powerful it’s good God’s word is.
▶ 15:36 Good and also go back up here I have heard their groaning and I have come down it says who who I have come down so that’s what he’s talking about I’m sending Moses but I’m going to come when Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Isaac Abraham said to his son don’t worry worry God will provide who. Himself and he’s doing the same thing with Moses I have come down to set them free I have come down to be a deliverer he’s talking about his coming when he came he came to die and rise and deliver. People Luke 4:18 the spirit of the Lord is upon me of course we know Jesus is deliver but I got to have a verse that says it the spirit of the Lord is upon me to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are oppressed and here’s Jesus he’s in the synagogue and he goes up and he is reading a scripture out of Isaiah and he’s saying I the spirit of the Lord is upon me and when he leaves after he quotes this verse that he’s setting at liberty them that are oppressed Jesus said today this scripture is.
Scripture in this part
Acts 7:34 (NKJV)
I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.” ’
— Acts 7:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:28Luke 4:18 (NKJV)
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
— Luke 4:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:21What are we delivered from?
Short answer: Acts 7:36: he brought them out. Galatians 1:4: Christ gave himself to deliver us from this present evil world. Romans 6:16: you are slaves to whom you obey—sin unto death or obedience unto righteousness. If you think you can stay in sin you aren’t really delivered; sin hurts you, others and your children.
▶ 16:56 Fulfilled all of these examples ex all these illustrations that Moses brought that Abraham brought they were fulfilled in Christ. Jesus and it’s good I know we know this but it’s really good when that Old Testament these people that lived are illustrating something that came thousands of years later it’s. Powerful God knew what he was doing from the beginning Acts 7:3 6 he brought them out he brought them out and this is talking about Moses Stephen is referring to Moses in Galatians 1:4 who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God and our father now it’s important to understand what you’re delivered from because if you don’t understand what you’re delivered from then you think you can stay in it and that’s not good if you think it’s okay to stay where you you were delivered from then you’re really not delivered and you’re not accepting part of Christ that he’s given you so in Romans 6:16 it says you are slaves to the one whom you obey now Israel they were enslaved to Egypt they were oppressed whether and it goes on to say whether you are slaves to sin which leads to death or
▶ 18:26 to obedience which leads to righteousness so here we are in Romans chapter 6 Romans is in the New Testament Romans is after Christ died on the cross rose from the grave and he’s saying what slavery is here he’s saying are you a slave to sin the Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt and they needed to deliver and that was Moses Moses came he did God do God did the the 10 plagues and all the miraculous signs that came and they were delivered delivered but what was that in slavery and God God is telling us. Today slavery you don’t want to be enslaved to sin yet today the average American Christian I may or I can’t see that Christians today are believing that they can stay in sin and that’s not the right thinking you don’t want to stay.
Scripture in this part
Acts 7:36 (NKJV)
He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
— Acts 7:36 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:24Galatians 1:4 (NKJV)
who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
— Galatians 1:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 17:37Romans 6:16 (NKJV)
Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
— Romans 6:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:56How did Moses’ signs point to Jesus’ miracles?
Short answer: Moses showed wonders in Egypt, the Red Sea and the wilderness—the serpent, leprous hand, plagues, firstborn—God using him as a vessel. Luke 7:22: Jesus told John’s disciples the blind see, lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the dead are raised, and the poor hear the gospel.
▶ 19:25 Enslaved it will oppress you it does. When you sin there’s a consequence it’s going to hurt you it’s going to hurt the people you’re doing with hurt people around you and if you’re a parent it’s most definitely going to hurt your kids so it’s important God came to deliver and if you feel like you’re enslaved to sin he can deliver you from sin he’s the real deal he has the power that’s why it’s so important to go with Jesus Christ because he can do it he has the power to transform you from the inside. Out now in Acts 7:36 Stephen again is talking about what Moses did he brought them out he showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt and in the red sea and in the wilderness 40 years there’s a lot in that.
▶ 20:23 Okay in Exodus Moses did miracles he did the miracle with the snake he turned the snake you know God is the one doing the miracles okay of course but Moses is the one you know that God is using he’s the vessel and so you got the snake miracle you got the leprosy miracle where he put his hand in his in his uh shirt brought it out it was leprous as white as snow he put it back in it was healed you know God can heal water to blood and we know all about the 10 plagues the frogs, lice, the flies cattle disease the boils fire and brimstone locust.
▶ 21:02 Darkness and the firstborn the last plague was the first born were killed by the death angel and the red sea was parted so God Moses did all these God used Moses to do all these miracles and in Luke 7:22 tell John what the things you have seen John the baptist was in jail this is the New Testament and he he’s got followers still people that you know got baptized by John the baptist that went out and heard what he said and John the baptist wanted to hear a report because he’s in jail he can’t he doesn’t know what’s going on so they come uh the followers came to Jesus and Jesus told the followers tell John what things you have seen how that the blind see the lame walk the lepers are cleansed the deaf hear the dead are raised to the poor the gospel is preached so here Jesus is saying I’m doing all these miracles I’m doing all these wonders all these signs that I am God just like what Moses did acts.
Scripture in this part
Luke 7:22 (NKJV)
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.
— Luke 7:22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:18How does the Red Sea parting relate to the torn veil?
Short answer: The firstborn’s death pictured God’s firstborn dying before deliverance. The parted Red Sea, leading all the people to meet God at Sinai, pictures the veil torn top to bottom when Jesus died (Matthew 27:51)—God making a way for everyone to come to him. All shall know me, least to greatest.
▶ 22:09 7:36 he brought them out he showed them wonders and signs and now we’re going to focus on the red sea. Here the firstborn dying of course as I said was an illustration that Jesus was the first born of God that he would die and the death of the first came just before the deliverance so all of that is an illustration as well and now the red sea is. Interesting the red sea as you know was. Parted and you know every time I say this I I know on the other side you got all these voices that are saying no it didn’t happen no it didn’t uh no it’s impossible God didn’t do that no no no you know there was probably a place where they could just walk across where it was 12 in thick no you know there’s all the doubt but I’m not going to get into that right now the red sea Matthew.
▶ 23:13 27:51 the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom and when you look at that red sea parting and you think about where they’re going they are going to Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai is where God wants to meet with his people and you see the illustration of the ark of the covenant we’ve learned about that you have to go through the holy place into the holy of holies just like the song. Said and here but you have that veil and you can’t go through the veil unless you’re a certain group and God here with the parting of the Red Sea is illustrating I’m going to make a way for. Everyone to come through to get to me and this is how he’s wanted it from the beginning.
▶ 24:12 I want to dwell in my people I want to meet with my people all of them not just certain people not just Moses’s kids not just Aaron’s. Kids I want them all to come in. And then of course we know that after they went through God brought the sea on the Egyptians that were chasing after. Them but the veil of that temple was torn in two from top to bottom when Jesus died the rocks were split. Open but that veil was torn the red sea was parted as an illustration that all could come to me. The new the new covenant says that all shall know me from the least to the greatest.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 27:51 (NKJV)
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,
— Matthew 27:51 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:10Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
— Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:04 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does the golden calf teach?
Short answer: Acts 7:41: they made a calf and celebrated what their hands had made—a form of godliness shaped to what they wanted, not the Lamb. Three months out, they wanted to go back to Egypt. Religious people in Jesus’ day likewise turned God’s ways into their own traditions and hated him.
▶ 25:08 Amen he’s letting us all in that’s so important you can get in you can know God you can come. In when I learned that as a teenager you know get out of the way man when I learned that it didn’t depend on somebody but that if I just followed had a desire was pursuing him going after him he would come and he did Stephen again the he says that was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf you see he’s continuing his message here and he’s talking about Moses and he’s talking about the people of Israel that was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf they brought sacrifices to it and held a celebration honor of what their hands had made now what animal illustrates Jesus Christ the l what l the lamb what do we have here a calf you see they had a form.
▶ 26:16 Of God they had a form of godliness but they started to make it what they. Wanted they formed it what they wanted out of this they took a piece of it just like a lot of religions they’ll take a piece of of the Old Testament or or a part of it and they’ll start making it something. Else and you can’t do that and these people they wanted to go back these people you know I would have never done that geez these guys are a bunch of idiots I wouldn’t have never done that those people I’m just kidding they wanted to go back back to Egypt they wanted to go back and live I mean they live in slavery I mean they weren’t going to go back and demand you know they were going to go live in slavery because there they had the meat that they wanted the right food that they wanted you know all the nile river was there man you could you could sit out and get a sun you know whatever they wanted I don’t know what they wanted back there they wanted to go back because they’re in the wilderness and they’ve got the manna and they’re tired of it.
▶ 27:24 And sometimes it’s not easy to be a Christian. Not going to lie to you there’s seasons in God sometimes it’s dry sometimes it’s wet it’s raining it’s awesome it’s. Great they refused to obey they refused they rejected they refused to follow they had only been this is not you know 40 years after they had left this is like 3 months. And Moses Moses was up talking to God and Moses hasn’t eaten anything and he’s talking to God this is. Great he’s fasting he comes down his face is shining and here the people are down.
▶ 28:18 There and they’re going to go. Back cuz they’re saying where we you don’t know what’s happened to this guy you know and some of us might be saying I don’t know where’s Jesus at what is he doing how come he’s not you know just bursting the seams of America bursting the seams of my family how come I to come call on him he doesn’t just come and just blow me come with his presence just oh oh it’s you know what I’m. Saying I’m not being very clear they were worship Moloch and others in the wilderness they rejected. God religious people in Moses’s day they. Rejected Moses they wanted to go back to Egypt religious people in Jesus’s day when Jesus came around and his message was being preached and he was speaking they hated him they wanted to kill him I’m sure you remember in Matthew where he’s talking to the scribes he says woe to you scribes and Pharisees Jesus comes to the temple and he starts to overturn tables get out of here with your theft.
▶ 29:41 And you can look up why he was over turning. Tables but these people hated Jesus because he was coming and rocking their religion their calf that they had made they had made turn God’s religion into their own traditions their own method and here Christ the one who invented it is coming he’s got all these illustrations he’s showing us all this stuff and they’re not seeing it we don’t see. It they made their own gods they didn’t keep you know Jesus said he said woe to you scribes and Pharisees you guys tell us what to do you tell them what to do but you don’t do it yourselves you don’t keep the the rules yourselves you won’t even you won’t even try you’re just here talking you like the best seats oh man if we had a front seat here they’d want to sit right there that’s not like.
▶ 30:52 Us they made their own gods just like the people of Israel so I’m just just trying to illust or God is just trying to show us this morning he’s trying to show us in the Old Testament he’s illustrating what he would do in the New Testament when he came he’s trying to show us this morning that he has the vision he’s got uh he knows what’s going on he can illustrate it you know in history what’s going on yet we reject him we we we we don’t do our research and I’m trying to bring this out to you God knew what he was doing there’s a lot of voices out there that are just bashing God so many and they and God lets him bash him Jesus lets these people bash him I mean you type in something on the internet and they’ll just have all these bashing awful things to say about.
Scripture in this part
Acts 7:41 (NKJV)
And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
— Acts 7:41 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:43 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Matthew 23:2-3 (NKJV)
saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.
— Matthew 23:2-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:30 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Where does God want to dwell?
Short answer: Acts 7:48 and 7:51: the Most High does not live in houses made by men; you always resist the Holy Spirit. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and you are not your own. God doesn’t need us but wants to dwell in us; a hardened heart blocks the Spirit, who alone brings us to maturity.
▶ 31:52 Jesus and you you’re like what am I a Christian I’m not a Christian what do you mean you mean you they they didn’t walk across the sea what did you say oh they they walked over a little hill yeah yeah that’s what that’s what happened I don’t believe that. Stuff no God has the power he has the power he can do anything and that’s what I’m trying to show today it’s nothing for him to part a sea it’s nothing for him to do these things last important thing this is so powerful that Stephen is saying to these people and he ends with this Acts 7 verse.
▶ 32:38 45 he’s talking about how David asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob however the most high does not live in houses made by men now there’s a lot of verses here he’s saying a lot of things but I’m trying to sum it up for you Stephen is bringing this up David asked to provide a dwelling place David the Moses’s tabernacle had had been around for a long time David started to provide materials to make a house for the Lord and his son Solomon built that temple and then it says he reminds us here the most high does not live in houses made by men the temple is not where God dwells Acts 7:51 you are just like your fathers you always.
▶ 33:33 Resist the Holy. Spirit do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit see these religious people would not let the spirit in they resisted the Spirit and he goes on to say you are not your own you think you’re in charge you you think that you’re the guy no you’re. Not the reason God made the whole world and made us and made all this stuff the earth the universe and everything is so that he could dwell in. You and when he comes and he tries and we reject him we’re rejecting everything it’s. About.
▶ 34:27 You have been built to be a temple for the Holy Spirit but if you don’t let him in you’re just going to. Deteriorate and some may think oh God God he needs he needs to have people that’s why he created no he doesn’t need anything he doesn’t need us he wants us he has a desire for us he wants to live in. Us and these people these religious people are rejecting they’re not only rejecting they’re opposing they’re fighting against God they’re resisting against the wrong person the Holy Spirit and Mr. Kincer has been preaching several weeks on the Holy Spirit Holy Spirit Holy Spirit and this morning we can’t be like the religious people we’ve got to let the Holy Spirit in we’ve got to let him in we’ve got to pursue.
▶ 35:39 Him you’ve got to open up you know Pharaoh harden his heart that heart is the gateway to the spirit if you harden it you’re you’re blocking what God can do in your Spirit. And if there’s no life it’s just going to. Die being a Christian the transformation never stops you go from a baby Christian a child an adolescent teenager to maturity until you are like Jesus Christ. And the only. Thing that will take you to maturity that will take you to being like Christ is the spirit of God.

About this transcript
This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added from the speaker’s pauses and then corrected by hand, and obvious caption errors (names, Bible references) were fixed; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: Delivered by a speaker other than Pastor Kincer (unnamed). He cites Acts 7:45 for David’s dwelling place (7:46–48) and lists “fire and brimstone” among the plagues (hail and fire). Sensitive content kept as spoken: beheadings with “Allahu Akbar,” the apostles all martyred except John. Select any time to jump to that moment on YouTube.
