How can we make wise choices? Israel was delivered to worship, but accused, grumbled and believed the bad report, so they never saw the land. Joshua and Caleb, a tiny minority, had a different spirit and followed fully. That spirit is the sevenfold Spirit of Isaiah 11:2, which God now puts in us through the Holy Spirit.

Why did God deliver Israel?

▶ Watch this part (2:08)

Short answer: Let My people go, that they may worship Me; He wants to be your God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 2:08 Difference first of all in Exodus 8 verse 1 we’ve been talking about Israel coming out of Egypt the Lord said to Moses go to Pharaoh and say to him this is what the Lord says let my people go so that they may worship me. And God wants to deliver us from our sin and from the kingdom of darkness so we can worship give glory and honor to our God he doesn’t want us giving glory and honor to the kingdom of darkness or to ourselves in our country today there’s a lot of self- glorification and there is also a lot of glorification of the kingdom of darkness and God is calling us away from that he wants us to worship him and we got to take our opportunity this morning we have an opportunity when we come in on Sunday when we gather it says where two or three are gathered in my name there I am in their midst are we gathered in his name this morning yes so let’s take our opportunity to give him praise glory and honor and also in your life this week as you go on and live your life remember God doesn’t he’s a jealous God and he doesn’t want you going after and supporting and worshiping or being involved with the kingdom of darkness and or propping

How did Israel first respond?

▶ Watch this part (3:39)

Short answer: They felt heard and seen and worshiped, but that isn’t enough; Pharaoh is a liar, as the media and other philosophies say God is.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 3:39 up and and promoting yourself he wants to be your God as he says in the new covenant I will be their what God and they will be my people that’s God’s. Goal so we want to look at some of the decisions people made on on the journey from Israel I’m sorry from Egypt to uh the promised. Land we want to understand what is going on here Exodus chap 4:31 they heard that the Lord had visited and they had seen their affliction and they bowed their heads and worshiped so Moses showed them the signs that God had given him the uh leprous hand the rod that turned into a snake and the water to blood God had given Moses these signs and Moses showed it to the people of Israel the leaders and after uh the people heard that Moses was sent to deliver them they bowed their heads and worshiped.

▶ 4:49 Because God had heard their prayer their cry and seen their affliction they felt heard and they felt seen. Finally we felt we’ve been heard I’ve been. Heard but it’s not enough to be. Heard they bowed their heads in worshiped so they were very responsive they were very glad at God’s response in Exodus. 5:6 uh in the next chapter almost immediately after Moses and Aaron go into Pharaoh and they say okay let God people go uh so we so we can take them to sacrifice to God and worship God in the wilderness and Pharaoh says all right forget you no longer am I going to supply straw for making bricks uh you’re going to have to go find that yourself and still make the same quota every day and that was the the law the com the command that came down from Pharaoh he said you guys are lazy you’re crying out uh let us go and sacrifice to our God uh I’m going to make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies Pharaoh said that God was a liar.

▶ 6:10 And see that happens a lot. Today the media the kingdom of darkness other philosophies and other teachings will say that God is a liar say that his word is a lie when really they’re lying Pharaoh is a liar. Okay so the first uh inkling of oh can we have a a vacation no you’re not getting no vacation I’m going to make the work harder for. You so they said to them may the Lord look on you and judge you you have made us uh I don’t know what version this is obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us so they turn from just a chapter before they were very glad and they’re worshiping God they’re so grateful and now they’re like what are you.

Scripture (NKJV)

Exodus 4:31 (NKJV)

So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

What happened at the Red Sea?

▶ Watch this part (7:08)

Short answer: Terrified, they accused Moses of bringing them to die; be careful accusing God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 7:08 Doing how could you come here how could you cause all this fuss so it’s important to understand when you come to God when you uh accept Christ in your heart you confess your sin there’s some there’s some work there’s some steps you got to go through there’s some oppos oos you’re going to face and that’s okay stick with God Exodus 14:10 the Egyptians were marching after them in the red sea they had been delivered the plagues came uh they had been delivered after the after the uh firstborn were. Killed and the Egyptians were marching after them the army was marching after them at the red sea and they were. Terrified and at this moment you know how many of you would be scared I would be scared you got a big army coming after you can you imagine you know another country coming over orga be like holy mackerel get in the car we got to go go go.

▶ 8:14 Right hopefully we’d be gone before then uh they were terrified and they started to say you brought us out here to die what have you done to us and they said I told you so I I told you to leave us alone it would have been better to serve the Egyptians than to die out here in the wilderness or to be killed by their army so this is their response to God so they’re not trusting in the promise that he made at the beginning to them they’re just looking at the opposition and they’re saying we can’t overcome this and we you know.

▶ 8:59 They’re saying all these things you brought us out here they’re making all these accusations you got to be careful with your accusations when you start accusing God you start accusing uh what God is trying to do your in your life and the change he’s trying to make and you start coming at him you better watch out you got to be careful okay yeah it may be uncomfortable but you got to give it time and let God do hits his work and finish the good work that he has in your life Exodus 15:1 Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord I will sing to the Lord for he has triumphed gloriously the horse and his rider he is thrown into the sea the Lord is my strength and my song he’s become my salvation this is my God I will praise him my father’s God and I will exalt him now just like uh a day before they were really mad at God and so after all this they go from being really upset to now all they’re smiling and everything is okay okay.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Exodus 14:11-12 (NKJV)

Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”

— Exodus 14:11-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:14

Is the journey comfortable?

▶ Watch this part (10:03)

Short answer: No; we get mad at leaders and God and then sing their praises. Every one of us has to go through the same transition.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 10:03 Right and we get mad at leaders we get mad at God and a few minutes later we’re singing their praises God wants to bring us to his promised land and it’s not always going to be. Comfortable and just like Moses was leading them to the promised land Jesus says follow me and we need to follow Christ to where he wants to bring us he’s taking us into the land the wilderness is not his promised land the kingdom of darkness or Egypt is not his promised land Egypt is an illustration of coming out of the kingdom of darkness kingdom of darkness is the world the world promotes their message the world is u listening to Satan’s message why because they they’re they’re they’re sinning and they you know their sin is going to lead to death and their death is going to lead to what hell if they don’t come out of the darkness they’re going to be.

▶ 11:11 Judged and so that’s what Egypt is talking about the promised land is not Egypt the wilderness is not. Egypt the the promised land is the promised land and that’s where God wants to bring us and so we have a responsibility to respond right to God while we are in transition from one kingdom to the other and the people that choose to love God through their transition will make the transition and it doesn’t take forever it doesn’t take 30 years this journey from Egypt to the promised land took a little over a year uh they were you know wandering they were doing they had to fight the amalekites had to do a few things uh the journey doesn’t take that long but it took them a little over a year and so in a little over a year you can go from one kingdom to the other and you can be secure that is God you know we want to understand that doesn’t take long don’t don’t drag it.

What did God do at the sea and after?

▶ Watch this part (12:19)

Short answer: He saved Israel, made bitter water drinkable, and heard their grumbling; ask humbly.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 12:19 Out every one of us has to go through the same transition and God is asking us how will we handle our transition. In Exodus chapter 14:30 we want to point out that the Lord say that it says that day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore and the Israelites when they saw that they saw God’s mighty hand the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant so not only does God want want to forgive you he wants to rescue you and deliver you destroy the power of sin and the kingdom of darkness in your life so as long as we’re still alcoholics and as long as we’re still sexually immoral we’re not saved we haven’t been released from the power of the kingdom of darkness the power of uh sin over our lives and Christ God God wants to save you from that.

▶ 13:33 Grip we must put our trust in him and keep following him Exodus 15:22 they had three days without water at Marah it was bitter water and the people grumbled against Moses and God made the water drinkable in Exodus 16:11 I have heard the grumbling tell them at twilight you will eat quail and in the morning you will be filled with bread so they keep grumbling about the needs that they have right you know we go to the grocery store and you see these high prices and I grumble I grumble a lot I go to the restaurant or this place that I’m grumbling what in the world are they doing here you know we grumble right but here they’re grumbling at God they don’t like what they’re given they don’t like this water they don’t like this bread they don’t like they want the meat they they like how things were in Egypt and they don’t like this transition now God is trying to bring them to a land full of milk and honey right but in that.

And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them,

— Exodus 16:11-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:33

What was the big mistake?

▶ Watch this part (14:43)

Short answer: The spies said we are not able; the people didn’t believe God could bring His promise.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 14:43 Transition uh there’s some there’s a little bit of a lack. Here so we got to remember to ask and be humble with God so they come to a big mistake here in Numbers chapter 13:31 the men who had gone up with him said we are not able to go up against the people for they are stronger than we so God asked or uh I can’t remember who it was but they sent in 12 spies to spy out the promised land that God had promised them and they come back and the men who had gone came back and said we’re not able to go up against the people they’re stronger than we they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they spied out and all the congregation lift up their lifted up their voices cried and the people wept and all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron.

▶ 15:38 In John 3:16 this famous verse we know for God so loved the world whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life and so that’s what’s happening here the people do not have trust and do not believe that God can bring about his promise because they’re seeing the opposition and they’re. Scared okay and you may see opposition in your life you may see problems in your life and think God cannot bring about my salvation but you’ve got to stick with Christ and you’ve got to let him bring you through all of it it’s amazing what he will do in your life. So they don’t believe that God can deliver them and God is asking us do you believe that Christ can deliver you and are you willing to stick with him until it happens uh we know the scripture says that he is the author and finisher of our faith amen he will see it all through to the end.

Scripture (NKJV)

What did the complaint cost?

▶ Watch this part (16:53)

Short answer: They wished they had died in Egypt, so those who rejected Him would not see the land.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 16:53 And so they continue to complain and they say oh we should have died in the land of Egypt uh if if we only had died in this wilderness why has the Lord brought us here to fall by the sword it would have been better for us to return to Egypt and they start getting on their complaining pity party and you know we get we I am just like that okay you get on this these problems come and you just start going okay here I go I’m going to get on my pity party pot seat and I’m going to sit here for a little bit. You got to be careful you know we can’t be sitting there complaining against. God Numbers 14:20 God pardoned their rejection but because they had rejected the land uh he responds and says you put me to the test now these 10 times remember when Jesus was being tempted in by Satan he said he quoted one of the scriptures saido not tempt the Lord your God God right and that’s what they had done here they had tempted they had tested God not just once but 10 times and he says you guys have not heeded my voice you haven’t.

▶ 18:11 Listened they shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers and neither shall any of those who rejected me see it so they complained they feared and rejected the land that they never saw they believed 12 uh 10. Men who came back and brought a bad report and could you be rejecting something in God that he is offering that you have never seen are you believing others description or depiction of what God is offering you and so these. People rejected the promised land that they never saw and never experienced. And we don’t want to do that we don’t want to be like that in numbers chapter 13:30 we see two men that are.

Scripture (NKJV)

Numbers 14:2-3 (NKJV)

And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! What made Joshua and Caleb different?

▶ Watch this part (19:09)

Short answer: Less than 1% of the population, they had a different understanding; seek first the kingdom.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 19:09 Different and looking back at the beginning of this message first we’re reminded that we need to be that we need to worship and I’m bringing up all these examples and all these complaints because I want to show you people that made wrong. Choices people that made the wrong choice and now we want to look at some men who made the right choice Numbers 13:30 Caleb quieted the people and he said let us go up at once and take possession for we are well able to overcome. It numbers chapter 14:6 Joshua and Caleb spoke saying the land is a good land if the Lord delights in us he will bring us into the land a land which flows with milk and honey do not rebel against the Lord nor fear the people of the land their protection has departed from them the Lord is with us do not fear them and so we want to understand also that Joshua and Caleb were two out of 12 spies that went to see the land they are two out of over a million people that have a different mindset and a different.

▶ 20:26 Understanding so they are are the minority in this case. Right they are the uh they’re less than 1% of the population here but they have a different understanding they have a different. Message Matthew chapter 6:33 says seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you Israel here is following Moses to the promised land and we must seek and follow Christ to his kingdom Romans 14:17 says the kingdom of God is not meat nor drink but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit God wants to build his kingdom and he wants us to convert people from darkness to.

Why did Caleb enter the land?

▶ Watch this part (21:21)

Short answer: Because he had a different spirit and followed Me fully; don’t stop at the cross.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 21:21 Light and we’ve got to continue on to the next steps instead of wandering in the wilderness my servant Caleb Numbers 14:24 because he has the different spirit in him and has followed me fully I will bring him into the land where he went and his in his descendants shall inherit it so here Caleb he has a different spirit and it’s not just on him it’s not just uh on the you know near him it is in him and it’s important for us Christians to become close to God come to a place where we get his spirit in us and that spirit is the ex factor it will make the difference it will help you make wise right timely good choices in your life we need this spirit.

▶ 22:30 And the timely choice the wise choice that Caleb and Joshua were making was hey we know that the opposition looks fierce but God is on our side you know they had the spirit of God in them and when you’re a Christian now when you’ve accepted Christ you need a different mindset a different spirit you need to stop thinking the way you used to think when you weren’t a Christian you got to stop thinking that way and the thing that will come and change your thinking is that new covenant he says I’ll give you a new heart and I’ll put my spirit in you and we need that amen and we should be praying and asking God to fulfill that new covenant in your life.

▶ 23:24 But this is what God in Numbers in this book. Is identifying that is the difference it is the thing that has made the difference here and Joshua and Caleb were the two men and their families that got to go into the promised. Land it says I will bring you into the land and his descendants shall inherit it so not not only did they get to see it they got to come into it with their families later on in their life and not only themselves but their children so our choices your choice in your life will affect your children and the people that come after you it’s important it’s imperative this not only affects you it affects everyone around.

▶ 24:23 You and so it’s so imperative for us to not just stop at the cross and getting forgiveness but to go on and let God complete the good work he began in us that new covenant is wants to add so many things to us he wants to change the way we think stop thinking the way we used to he wants to put his spirit in us so that when we move forward we can make right decisions and face what is. Coming and do it with peace peace and joy how many want peace and joy in in your on your uh in your future track I want peace and joy that spirit will help that spirit is what makes the difference Numbers 27:18 the Lord said to Moses take Joshua the son of nun a man in whom is the spirit and lay your hand on him all Israel experienced the cloud.

Scripture (NKJV)

Do the majority decide truth?

▶ Watch this part (25:32)

Short answer: All Israel experienced God and still followed the majority; he says 99.9% of academics say God is wrong, but we have experienced the Spirit.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 25:32 The cloud followed them and gave them direction all Israel experienced this and they all followed they experienced the red sea deliverance at they were delivered at the red sea and they sang as we learned they experienced the invitation at the foot of the mountain of God but God is reminding us here here that two out of these 12 spies and two out of millions stood up for God’s promise because they had the spirit of God in them and that is what makes the difference it doesn’t matter if you are the minority it matters what God is going to do what his promise is what he will complete that’s the side you want to be on amen doesn’t matter what the rest of the world says or all this this uh the academic.

▶ 26:40 You know the college professors the doctors oh all of the academia is. 99.5% of 100% of all academics are against what you’re God’s saying does that make it right no. 99.9% of all academics are saying that God is wrong that God didn’t create the world all this stuff does that make God wrong. No I know everyone in this room has experienced. Christ I know everyone in this room has experienced. The spirit in some. Measure and that is proof in itself that God is real when somebody comes up and say well prove that God is real he died on the cross he rose two thousand years ago and he is alive.

▶ 27:47 Today and if you will invite him in your life he’ll come that’s the proof folks we’ve experienced God we’ve experienced the spirit it. Works maybe we want more of it maybe we need to experience it in a different way but it’s real and it’s powerful so we don’t need I don’t need to argue with everybody God is alive and living. Today I just wanted to point that out and that’s why to me it is a much uh a very a winning argument when God shows up. Amen and so all that arguing over here I I I don’t even need to do that they just need to decide if they’re going to respond to God or not.

What is the different spirit?

▶ Watch this part (28:45)

Short answer: The seven spirits on the tabernacle candlestick: the Spirit of the Lord, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 28:45 Right Isaiah 11:2 in Moses’s tabernacle there was a candlestick that had seven u lamps. And these seven lamps illustrate the seven different spirits of the Lord in Isaiah 11:2 it tells us what those spirits are the spirit of the Lord will rest on him the spirit of wisdom of understanding the spirit of c counsel of might of knowledge and the fear of the Lord and that spirit of wisdom enables us to make wise. Decisions understand understanding if you look at Joshua and Caleb they understood the power of God over the power of the people of Canaan right they had counsel and guidance from God that it would become theirs if God delighted in them you know these guys they come up with some of these if they said if God delights in us well where did that come from you know did Moses say that no they in their spirit they knew hey you know if God if God delights us we’re going to get this.

▶ 29:59 They had counsel they had might they knew that God had the power to enable them to overcome the Canaanites they had knowledge they had the fear of the Lord they respected God’s promise over their feelings about the enemy or what their peers thought you know when you have to disagree with the majority it takes some great rest respect for. God and that’s what these men had they had the fear of the Lord and again they were the minority and they stood up why because they had the spirit and so basically what we’re saying today is that the spirit is necessary if you want to make wise timely right and good choices in your life that will affect your family your children the people around you you need to get the spirit in.

How was Joshua filled?

▶ Watch this part (31:09)

Short answer: With the spirit of wisdom when Moses laid hands on him; the fear of God shapes how he raises his kids.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 31:09 You Deuteronomy 34:9 Joshua was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid hands on him and the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded. Moses it wasn’t a spirit of tongues uh if you look at in Acts 2 they were they were speaking in tongues and they were declaring what the mighty works of God right and these men were hearing it in their language and they were they were astounded and they’re astonished and they’re like oh my gosh and the the base or what’s behind the spirit are these seven things and it’s important for us to start.

▶ 32:07 There let’s start with the spirit of the fear of the Lord the spirit of wisdom spirit of understanding of knowledge let’s start there because I know in the scriptures it says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy so that that also comes out of it too the prophecy comes comes from the spirit of the Lord. Right. But for your everyday. Life. For being a parent for being a spouse for being a worker on the job though these seven things are very important you know the reason why I don’t steal from my company steal data or whatnot first of all they try to protect it secondly I have the fear of what God and God tells me not to.

Right and many other things so it affects your job it affects your life I I want to treat my kids right because of why I have the fear of God and I want to raise them and train them up in the way should go why because I’ve got I you know I. Want I’m influenced by the spirit of understanding and knowledge and wisdom for my children amen so we got to make these right choices and they come and they’re birthed from this spirit and that Holy Spirit will give you power to live daily in your home and at your Job and the people the Israelites could they followed Joshua because they could see the results of the spirit in his life in John chapter 14:6 I will pray and the father will give you another helper that he may abide with you forever for he dwells with you and will be in you I will not leave you orphans and I will come to you we’ve been talking about.

▶ 34:20 The uh new. Covenant we’ve been talking about. How God’s promise is that he’ll put his spirit into us we see here in the scriptures in the Old Testament that even in the old. Testament the spirit of God is there. Amen we can see in the Old Testament that God is filling Joshua with his spirit Caleb has a different. Spirit and in John 14:6 Jesus is saying I’m going to pray and the father will give you the spirit and this Holy Spirit has those seven characteristics and we need all of them we don’t want to fight in our day and hour about having the spirit or not I bring this up because we’re showing in in all the different places in the Old Testament in the New Testament that this promise is for us it’s for us today.
