In a Christmas-season message, the speaker teaches from Psalm 91 that those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High are protected and blessed, but we must make room for God. Like the inn with no room and the Shunammite woman who built an upper room, we choose whether there is space for Jesus.

What does Psalm 91 ask us to do?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. You have to act: you have to decide to dwell.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:00 The scripture that really stuck out to me was in Psalms chapter 91 and it says he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High so. When you think about the messages that maybe you’ve heard or the the direction this these these scriptures they tell you we’ve got to do some action we have to do something ourselves and in this case it says you have to dwell you have to decide you have to make a choice it’s a choice that we all have to make we have to decide to go live in the place that we live there’s there’s families where the you know the husband’s got to decide the wife’s you know you got to make a decision am I gonna stay here am I gonna be here where am I gonna dwell and it’s the same way with God you have to make a choice.

Short answer: God will protect you under the shadow of His wings and deliver you; more importantly, from the deadly disease of sin, which Jesus Christ cleanses and removes. His truth is your shield.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:55 But now in Psalms 91 it mentions all the benefits and the reasons why God what the blessing is and if you read it it talks about God will protect you you’ll be under the shadow of his wings he. Will deliver you from thieves from robbers it says it talks about robbers I mean you could think today what nobody’s robbing me well I have people some people robbed you yeah and God’s gonna help you with that deliver from deathly disease the pestilence it says that walks in the darkness you can’t see it we all know about that right. Winter came and all of a sudden the school kids were dropping like flies right. Everybody’s getting sick.

What happens when you make the Lord your dwelling place?

▶ Watch this part (1:48)

Short answer: Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. You have to make room for God in your schedule.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:48 But more importantly the deathly disease sin is like a disease and Jesus Christ will cleanse you from that Jesus Christ will not only cleanse you but get it out of your life he’s the key he’s the answer. The Bible will be a shield of course. Now very important Psalms 91 verse 9. Psalms 91 verse 9 it says because you have made you have made the Lord your dwelling place and you got to think about that for a minute you have made that is not just a decision you make now you’re talking about building materials you’re talking about a work that has to be done you’re talking about time that you have to set aside and that is what it is like if you want to have a relationship with Christ if you want to experience these blessings that he has you have to do.

▶ 2:56 You have to make room for God in your life and I mentioned it before in your schedule for the church you know attending being here if you’re a kid it’s paying attention it’s hard to do when you go to class when you go to church in school you have to make yourself. Listen. Adults you have to carve out time to work you have to carve out time for God you have to carve out time to read his word you have to make that time. Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place no evil shall befall you nor shall any plague no evil shall befall happen come upon you and you guys are thinking well a lot of bad things have happened to me but think about it from the perspective of when you die what really matters what really matters when you stand before God.

What do you want to hear when you stand before God?

▶ Watch this part (4:13)

Short answer: He wants to hear God tell him to enter in as a good and faithful servant. Over the long run, those who dwell in Him are blessed where it counts.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 4:13 Teenagers when you stand before God what really matters what do you really care what do you want to hear him say I want to hear him say enter in thy good and faithful servant how many you guys want to hear God say enter in I want to hear that. When I stand before him I don’t want no angels coming and grabbing me and taking me to another spot I want to go in ooh. Oh I would not like that and be horrible right. So we got to make room for God no evil shall befall you and then you think about the stories of that are in job where job his whole family died I mean all these awful things happen to him he get was sick he had the boils he lost everything and your and and here this says no evil shall befall you what.

▶ 5:14 And I think God is trying to say in the long run you know there would be seasons where bad stuff was happening but over the long run you’re gonna be blessed you’re gonna be blessed where it counts nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. So here it is here’s a picture they are what are they doing Thomas what are they doing here what are they building a playroom I like how you think they’re building it looks like they’re building a room there to me you know if I went and called them like oh no that wasn’t a room but they’re building a room. So what do they need they need the wood they need the tools they need.

▶ Watch this part (6:10)

Short answer: Because you have set your love upon Me, I will deliver you. The “you” is us, and the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 6:10 The time to do it the money. And this is this scripture was so powerful to me a few months ago I read it and God really it really pricked my heart 91:14 because you have set your love upon me this you is not Jesus it’s not God it’s us. You know the first and greatest commandment in the Bible is to the love God with all your heart soul mind and understanding right where you have set us we the church we have set our love on. God Jesus making time for him carving out making him our dwelling place there’s a lot of places we can dwell.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 91:14 (NKJV)

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

Where else can we dwell?

▶ Watch this part (7:02)

Short answer: In depression, sin, the devil’s playground, our own understanding or the world. Don’t call on Jesus only when things go bad if you haven’t made room for Him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 7:02 Weak and well in depression we can dwell in. Sin we can dwell in the Devil’s playground right there’s a lot of places we can do well we can dwell in our own what we think is right our own understanding our own wisdom we can dwell there there’s a lot of places people dwell we can dwell in the world and God is saying there’s a blessing there is so much when you dwell in Jesus Christ therefore I will deliver you I will set you on high because ye he has known my name sorry you you have known my name. You shall call upon me and I will answer you how many how many of us want to hear an answer from God how many of us would like to get an answer from God when we pray when we get on our knees and we ask God for something how many would love a response.

▶ 8:06 Right. See you not just when something’s going bad and like oh Jesus help me where are you I haven’t made any room for you but help me now. And. Sometimes God will come and help but for the most part you got to think am I making a place for God in my life. You know I want to be I want to be close to God that we’re talking all the time you know and then you just say hey why aren’t you answering me you’re supposed to answer me I’ve been asking you this question right. Do you guys know where you get answers from know. When you read God’s word and you spend time praying see when you read God’s word and you got afterwards you ask God hey help me understand that all of a sudden you read through and all of a sudden oh whoa.

Will God be with us in trouble?

▶ Watch this part (9:18)

Short answer: He shall call upon Me, and I will answer; I will be with him in trouble and deliver him. If you won’t make time for God, it doesn’t make sense to expect Him to do everything for you.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 9:18 Or he’ll give you something that you didn’t need weren’t even thinking about. That is really important and powerful and helps you. See it’s it’s through his word it’s important everybody we have access to his word I will be with you in trouble how many want God with you in trouble how many want to go through stuff alone no thank you. No you want God on your side I. Will deliver you and honor you how many of us oh man what a privilege that would be the king of kings the Lord of lords showings honor. Now if you read this it’s talking about Jesus as well that you here is also dude with long life I will satisfy you and show you my summit how many of us want to live long how many of us want to see God’s salvation I do now this is all pointing back this is all pointing back because we made.

▶ 10:28 God our dwelling place so important. So important. Basically saying if you don’t I mean it makes sense if you’re not gonna make time for God and you’re gonna sit there and inspect him to do all this stuff for you that’s not that doesn’t make sense that doesn’t work okay I’m not gonna go to my job and say okay give me my money I’m gonna go sit here do nothing no it doesn’t work that way even in a marriage relationship you have give to each other you have to give love receive love give love you and the other person gives love to you it’s an exchange and it’s the same way with God. When you it when you’re married you’ve got to make some time for your spouse right.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 91:15 (NKJV)

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

Where does God dwell now?

▶ Watch this part (11:28)

Short answer: Do you not know that you are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you? The kingdom of God is within you; you don’t have to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 11:28 If you want to just walk around oh there’s that person over there. That’s not gonna work. You’ve got to make some time and like we learned on Friday 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verse 16 do you not know that you are the temple of God and the spirit of God dwells in you so here we are making he’s saying you’ve got to make God your dwelling place and now he says that we are the temple of God but you see we have a choice. Are we gonna let God in are we gonna make time to see you got to make time for him in here in your heart in your mind in your 24-hour date and the limited resources that you have you’ve got to make time make room for him in your schedule Luke 17 verse 21 for indeed the kingdom of God is it is within you everybody point to your mind your head right here the kingdom of God say it let’s say the kingdom of God is within me.

▶ 12:35 It’s inside. You don’t have to do a special feat you don’t have to become some great athlete you don’t have to climb climb mount Kilimanjaro the kingdom of God is within you so look we got our horse on the top here right we’ve got time we got time for sports we got time for trips airplanes I mean it’d be nice to have an airplane we got our pluto. See he remembers he says this is the tv you got family you got to make time for family oh music man you should see some of these young people walk around like this. They’re in a trance they got the music going all the time see they’re trying to fit it all and they can’t fit it all in you could okay keep going.

How do we run out of room for God?

▶ Watch this part (13:34)

Short answer: We fill our lives with sports, trips and things until there is no room for God. The night Jesus was born there was no room in the inn, and God still asks, is there room for Me?

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 13:34 Don’t stop you guys are doing great. No not that so who’s that my daughter okay. Let’s see what am I waiting for the baby yeah yeah baby girl. So pretty soon you don’t have room for God in your life right and we can get like this where we fill our lives with a bunch of things and Psalms says that for some piece of people this is their portion in life they’re filled with children they’re filled with possessions and that’s all they live for and that’s not the goal and it goes on to say I want to be formed into the likeness of Jesus see that’s the goal we want to become like Jesus Christ.

Scripture (NKJV)

What did the Shunammite woman make for the prophet?

▶ Watch this part (14:37)

Short answer: A notable woman made a small upper room with a bed, table, chair and lampstand so he could turn in whenever he came. We make room for God the same way.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 14:37 When the night Jesus was born there was no room for them in the end like we learned on Friday there was no room for the king of the creator and God is I he’s asking us all the time is there room for me in your life have you made room. 2nd Kings chapter 4 verse 8 there was a notable woman this is important this is good who made a small upper room. What’s this I. Know it can fit in here oh.

▶ 15:32 What’s this huh the Bible and I don’t have things for prayer and stuff that look all of a sudden now you got some space. There was a notable woman who made a small upper room with a bed table chair and lamp stand and so it will be whenever he comes to us he can turn here now this is a woman who made a room for a prophet Elijah and it’s the same way with us and God see God is coming and he’s visiting and have we made room for him see she kept it ready all the time see God’s not always you know doing something great in awesome you know we’re waiting for him to move and and and what.

Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.”

What if revival doesn’t come right away?

▶ Watch this part (16:28)

Short answer: Don’t close up the room you made for God. He feeds you with His word and convicts you; respond and it will change your life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 16:28 Would we call it what am I talking about what am I talking about revival sorry we want to see revival we want to see God moving we want to see the sparks fly and we want to see all that sometimes that doesn’t happen. Does that mean we close up the shop close up the room that we’ve made fur gone no. This woman she made a small upper room with a bed table chair and lamp stand a bed for him to rest on a table where he could eat. You know we want to hear God’s word. You know there’s a difference between you reading the Bible you open up the book hey I’ve done it a lot you open up the Bible you start reading you’ve read four pages and you think to yourself what did I just read.

▶ 17:23 What did I just. You got to stop and get it in you and then there’s times where Jesus will come and he will convict you with his word. See when he comes in the upper room when God comes in the room that you’ve made for him and he starts to give you some good word good food it’ll change your life if you respond to it she made a chair. All will stand before the judgment seat of Christ you know we had we’ve got to mix it kind of makes us uncomfortable the judgment seat the Bible has some judgment in it right. And he wants to sit he’s gonna say no you can’t do that and you gotta decide am I gonna respond wrong ah you got his rules or are you gonna respond and say God you’re right that’s gonna hurt my life.

What does the lampstand represent?

▶ Watch this part (18:32)

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 18:32 The lampstand she’s got a candlestick a lamb stand for him and that is us the church what are we supposed to do we were supposed to hold up the light of Jesus for all the world to see we sing a song called lift Jesus higher right lift Jesus higher lift him up for the world to see he said if I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men unto me so this woman made room she made enough a room for God there’s our little example there now what do you do. 2nd Kings chapter 4 Elisha said look you have been concerned for us with all this care do we have concern for God do we have concern for Jesus his goals his purpose you know if nobody ever gave money to the church how would the church do anything and getting the gospel out if we didn’t tithe our money how would the church do anything I mean the pastor is gonna give his money and he’s gonna go I mean how do you get it done.

What did the prophet ask the woman who made room?

▶ Watch this part (19:50)

Short answer: He asked what he could do for her and whether she wanted him to speak on her behalf to the king. He wants to hear Jesus ask him that, and it starts with making room for Christ.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 19:50 That’s why you make room in your budget for God. See this woman she was concerned for this man are we concerned for what Jesus needs for all for us with all this care. What can I do for you. That’s good I want Jesus to say Mike what can I do for you how many would love to hear that from the almighty from the creator what can I do for you. We’ve got to make room. And that’s why that’s why you’ll see people here they’re just giving their all. Amen.

▶ 20:43 Do you want me to speak. To speak on your behalf to the king yes I. Want you to speak on my behalf I want to stand before him and have you know I need I need someone to speak on my behalf. How many you guys want the king hearing from you about what your needs are what you need done in your life it starts with making room in your life for Christ or two the commander of the army maybe you have a great battle going on in your life and you need the captain of the host Jesus the savior has saved you yes but now we need a king now you need the captain of the hosts.

How was the woman rewarded?

▶ Watch this part (21:42)

Short answer: She had no son and her husband was old, but he said about this time next year you shall embrace a son, and she conceived and bore a son.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 21:42 So if you want these parts of God these things that he does these identities of God you’ve got we have to make room for him like this lady did. second Kings chapter 4 verse 13 she has no son and her husband is old that old husband. [unclear] then he said about this time next year you shall embrace the sun but the woman conceived and bore a son when the appointed time had come of which Elijah had told her so she got something from God I. Want something from God I. Want to stand before him I wanted him to say enter in that good and faithful servant I want blessings in this life I want to be blessed in the next life and if we want those things we’ve got to make room for him. It’s not just a Sunday thing I’m sorry it’s not just a Sunday thing it’s not just a once-a-year thing it’s not a twice-a-year thing it is a daily thing.

Scripture (NKJV)
