Jesus Teaches When, How, and Why to Not Resist Evil — July 24, 2022: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Session nine: Jesus’ “do not resist evil” is not about criminals, who must be punished, but about stopping fights before they start. Love enemies by doing good, blessing and praying; be merciful as the Father is—and still do justly and speak up.
How does the service open?
Short answer: With the Ten Commandments from Exodus 20 and a call to worship in unity.
▶ 0:02 Good morning welcome thank you for joining us we’re going to read here out of Exodus chapter 20 and you should uh know real quick what I’m reading says you shall have no other gods before me you shall not make a carved image for yourself to carve image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or earth beneath you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. And so these first three. Scriptures. Come out of or are examples of or they are part of the ten commandments right in mark chapter 12 verse 20 Jesus 29 Jesus said in his read letters here you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart all your soul all your mind and with all your strength this is the first commandment amen.
▶ 0:58 And so the scriptures remind us in Psalms behold how good and how pleasant it is for his for the brethren to dwell together in unity and many times in the Bible they in one accord lifted up their voice gave thanks and praise and they were in agreement with what God said to do so this morning as we worship I want to remind you the most one of the key things is that we have come and assembled together we’ve come out of our homes we’ve come into this place. We’re not just staying home right so one of the powerful things is that we’re together. And the next step is to be in one accord to sing in one accord to praise God in one accord and like the scriptures remind us we need to love God that is the greatest thing that we can do so would you stand with me with that in mind.

▶ 23:06 I have a special song again from mr Tavis but I’m not accompanying him this time. So you gotta plug in that mic. It’s good to be in God’s house. What has this series stressed?
Short answer: Session nine: people came to hear Jesus, who backs up what He says; the apostles understood only after He opened their minds.
▶ 27:52 Uh. Okay we’ve been talking about how Jesus. Handled the church service this is our ninth session. And it’s important that we get ingrained into us. That they came to hear Jesus not just for miracles. He taught more than he did anything and they come to hear him and the Bible says they did hear him they heard him without amplification. Without microphones or anything else outside where it’s hard to hear they heard him amen.
▶ 28:45 For truly we can hear him today. And they were amazed and astonished at how he taught with authority to back up everything he said and folks he has that same authority for you and I today he backs up everything he says if we read and learn what he said not what people are saying he had they also were amazed at how he taught things kept secret from the beginning of the world. He revealed to his apostles things kept secret from the beginning of the world a lot of people think Paul had a special Revelation because he was called up to the third heaven and shown things and some things he couldn’t speak of and I have to tell him on facebook exactly he never talked about him because he was told not to talk about him don’t tell me he’s got a gospel that’s different than everybody else is that amen yes and these same apostles had the same Revelation because they were walking with him here on earth Paul wasn’t walking with him here on earth Christ came to him personally.
▶ 29:54 And he talked in parables which he explained to his disciples but folks you got to remember this of all the three and a half years they heard Christ speaking. All these messages they didn’t understand. Until after he rose from the grave and he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures and folks we’re not going to we can hear message after message after message but until we get before Christ and before his Bible his scriptures we’re not going to understand things until he opens them up and he opens them up line up online precept on precept here a little there a little he doesn’t give you the whole package at one time how many have experienced that yes mainly you’ve got to walk in what he told you before he’s going to take you to the next level.
▶ 30:49 Amen. And there’s two things about the apostles. They had their understanding open they were filled with the power of the Holy Ghost after that they never backslid they never sinned they never you know ran off with the secretary or had nervous breakdowns or anything when they got filled with the power of the Holy Ghost which is a different experience than receiving the spirit of God. When you get saved. And they had their understanding open those guys were solid till the day they died is that an amen and so today we think we can go to Bible seminar or Bible college or we can hear tapes on the on the from the Christian bookstore and all that and we can get no you don’t get it until he opens your understanding to get it so we need him amen.
Scripture in this part
Luke 24:45 (NKJV)
And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
— Luke 24:45 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:54How did Jesus teach?
Short answer: Not as the scribes—“and not as Dave Kincer”; they heard Him gladly.
▶ 31:49 And he taught not as the scribes not as the Pharisees and not as Dave Kincer and not as any minister today when he talked they heard him when he taught they heard him gladly when he taught they responded. And when he taught they experienced him backing up what he said amen and that’s the kind of preaching we need today hallelujah I hope one of these days before I grow and die that I can enter that realm. Now today we’re going to talk about what Jesus said about not resistant evil Jesus said don’t resist evil and he tells us when not to resist evil he’s going to tell us how not to resist evil and he’s going to tell us why you don’t resist evil are you ready first we’re going to have a recap we’re going to have an outline of the sermon on the mount the first chapter.
How did the sermon begin?
Short answer: With traits of blessed people—poor in spirit, hungry, persecuted for His sake—and doing truth and good works.
▶ 32:52 Remember he started with 11 traits of blessed people people are blessed people are good when. They hunger and thirst or they they are poor in spirit. Blessed are the poor in spirit okay the trait is they’re poor in spirit they’re hungry and they’re thirsty for the things of the spirit for the things of God that is a healthy hunger and a healthy thirst amen and what is the reward the kingdom of God the righteousness and peace and joy that’s in the kingdom and the power that’s their reward then he goes on down talking about the people that are good the people that are blessed and he comes to. Where he says blessed are you that are persecuted for righteousness sake. For theirs is the kingdom of God the same reward for those that are poor in spirit is the same reward for those that are being persecuted because you live right and you talk right are you with me.
▶ 33:55 And then he doubles it when he says blessed are you when men shall revile you. Mistreat you persecute you and say all manner of evil against you for my sake. Say all manner of evil falsely against you for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad that ever since I was a young Christian that just. He wants me to rejoice and be exceedingly glad during. People persecuted me and mistreating me for great is your reward in heaven so they persecuted the prophets which are before you so he is he is setting up a sermon here that’s to steal the most powerful sermon that was ever preached. And he’s talking about the good people and then he tells the good people that the effect that good people have they are the salt of the earth they are the light of the world by bringing glory to God by doing good works.
▶ 34:58 People say that we don’t work you better take it up with Christ if we want to affect the world we got to what do good works Jesus said to do truth and the works of God in John 3 verse 21 do truth it takes work to do truth anybody can hear truth. And to do the works of God the works of God hallelujah. Don’t be afraid of that word works now. That’s in verses 3 through 16 of Matthew 5. Now he switches. He’s been talking about the good people. And there’s good people there and there’s bad people there that he’s talking to and the bad people come to find something fault in his preaching and fault with him and they come to try to get the other people not to listen to him okay.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:3-12 (NKJV)
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
— Matthew 5:3-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:52John 3:21 (NKJV)
But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
— John 3:21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 34:58 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Did Jesus destroy the law?
Short answer: No—He came to fulfill it; whoever does and teaches it will be great.
▶ 35:56 And he says this. Think not that I’ve come to destroy the law and the prophets I have not come to destroy them but to fulfill them. Okay he supports Moses’s law he supports all laws. And folks don’t let people tell you that’s Moses’s law God gave Moses the law whose law is it God’s not the prophet that he gave it to who gave Isaiah the words to speak God when Isaiah is talking he’s not talking from his mentality. He’s talking through God are you with me amen and so all the prophets including John the baptist and Jesus Christ in verses 17 and 18.
▶ 36:48 And he says they that do the least of these laws. And teach others. To do them are the will be called great in the kingdom of God. He backs up the law and the prophets. And he’s backing it up for a purpose because there’s some people there that don’t. Follow the law and the prophets. And he says this and he calls him by name he calls these bad people by name. Except your righteousness. Exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees. You will not enter the eternal kingdom of heaven. So what is the big criteria for entering eternal life.
▶ 37:45 Righteousness said righteousness. And I deal with people on facebook all week long that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and I’ll tell them yeah all have sinned not all have to sin. Are you there you know we we twist these verses around to back up our own personal beliefs. Yes I once was a sinner but Christ saved me and as I grew in God I put away sin little by little line up online amen.
▶ 38:19 Righteousness is the key Jesus said in Matthew 23. Verse 15 that you scribes and Pharisees and Sadducees you make two times more the child of hell you’re you convert two times more the child of hell than you guys are so Jesus is calling them by name and he’s saying that they’re not following the prophets they’re not following the law and they are not righteous and their righteousness that they think is righteous is not going to get them into the kingdom of God now he’s directly addressing the other side of the group now how do you know the Bible says when you come together there are going to be believers maybe in there and unlearned being there and then the people that are learned will be in there in Corinthians right well that’s the crowd Jesus is talking to and he is directly addressing.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:17-20 (NKJV)
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
— Matthew 5:17-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:56 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Matthew 23:15 (NKJV)
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
— Matthew 23:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 38:19Whose doctrine should we follow?
Short answer: Not founders of movements—from Muhammad and the Pope to Luther, Calvin, Smith and Wimber—but Christ.
▶ 39:19 These Pharisees and scribes. They are adding to they are taking away and and a big thing today is they’re contexting the word away. I bring up a verse and they’ll go but he’s not talking to the church. He’s talking to the Jews scattered abroad he’s talking to the Gentiles I go get off of it all scripture has been given by God and is profitable for rebuke and correction and instruction and righteousness to equip the saint oh scripture don’t give me this he’s talking to the Jews and he’s talking to the Gentiles and he’s talking to the scattered tribes he’s talking to everybody is that an amen. And and it’s good for you to hear this stuff I I confront these things every week on facebook.
▶ 40:14 People passing on somebody else’s doctrine instead of the doctrines of Jesus Christ today we have Muhammad the founder of muslim we have the pope and the bishops. The founders of catholicism we have Luther the founder of Luther the Lutheran church we have Calvin the founder of the Calvinist movement we have Menno Simons the Mennonite founder we have fox the Quaker founder we have smith spelled with the y the baptist founder. We have smith Joseph the Mormon founder we have John Wesley the Methodist founder we have white the seventh-day adventist founder we have mayor Mary Baker Eddy the Christian science founder we have Parham and Seymour who founded the pentecostal movement we have today uh Chuck Smith the founder of Calvary chapel and Wimber the founder of the vineyard.
▶ 41:19 And I couldn’t get everybody on the screen. And the danger is this the danger is we follow a church or we follow a founder or we follow an author of a book instead of Christ who said he supports all the law and the prophets we need to be following all the law and the prophets amen Jesus who said except your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees you won’t enter the kingdom we need to be following Christ who says you I can make you righteous I not only can forgive you for your sins but I can give you power to live in this life amen we need to be following Christ. Instead of making heroes and a lot of these people dead for over a hundred years and they’re still reading their books and following them.
Scripture in this part
2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
— 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:19What did the early church continue in?
Short answer: The apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers; much worship today is entertainment.
▶ 42:21 In acts chapter 2 verse 42 these people that got saved during Christ’s ministry and the apostles minister before the resurrection. And the people that got saved on the day of Pentecost the thousands it says they continued in the apostles doctrine not the scribes doctrine not the Pharisees doctrine not the Sadducees doctrine not the roman religion doctrine they continued in the apostles doctrine that he opened up the things that are kept secret since the world began that he opened up the scriptures that he would back them up with authority and with power and they did great things for God didn’t they they follow the apostles doctrine and folks we should be following the apostles doctrine. And fellowship. A lot of Christians don’t even go to church and they rightly can criticize the church.
▶ 43:18 We come short. But the Bible says fellowship. For sake not the assembling of yourself together in the more so as you see the day approaching provoking one another to what love and to what good works what’s that word works encourage one another to do good to live right. And they continued in breaking of bread that communion table to remind us of the death burial and the resurrection of Christ and the power of that. And they continued in prayer. Almost every church I visit do not give the people a chance to pray they have worship they have the word and then they have a quiet time or something but they don’t invite the church to get on their knees and pray and ask God to make that word real in them to pray for God to send laborers into the harvest pray for God to build the church glorious and spotless without wrinkle that overcomes the gates of hell amen we need prayer my house shall be called a house off prayer not a house of entertainment.
Scripture in this part
Acts 2:42 (NKJV)
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
— Acts 2:42 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 42:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
— Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 43:18What did Jesus say about an eye for an eye?
Short answer: Do not resist evil—but Scripture also commands resisting the devil and executing justice.
▶ 44:38 A lot of worship today if you’re really honest is nothing but an entertainment time. Anyway that’s the remembering part all right now we get into today’s message Jesus said Matthew 5:38 you have heard that it was said an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth here he’s laying the foundation of the parable all right then he says but I tell you here he’s going to give us the moral and the spiritual application. I tell you not to resist evil. That statement is not in the Bible. Except here. Nowhere in the Old Testament do you find that statement. The Pharisees.
▶ 45:30 Have created this thing. And he’s addressing their problem. Okay. It does say in the Bible don’t resist the I mean I’m sorry resist the Devil and he will flee from you it says okay it does say in the Bible that we are to execute righteousness we are to execute justice and we are to defend. The oppressed from the oppressors we are to resist the oppressors. Are you with me. It’s kind of caught up in the word self-control okay say self-control. Yeah this is what he’s really talking about here control yourself. When people are mistreating you and saying things control yourself all right now let’s go on.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:38-39 (NKJV)
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
— Matthew 5:38-39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 44:38 (quoted; reference not named in the message)James 4:7 (NKJV)
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
— James 4:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:30Is Jesus talking about criminals?
Short answer: No—not thieves, murderers or the violent; criminals must face justice.
▶ 46:26 We got to understand that he’s not talking about a thief stealing things he’s not talking about our murder murdering people he’s not talking about people that frog. Commit crimes of fraud and extortion and and violence and so forth but he’s talking about the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees. He’s talking about don’t resist them. And their accusations. We just read in the news this week that I. There was a shooter in a mall that started killing people came out of the bathroom and started shooting people a young man there had a concealed pistol pulled it out shot 10 shots and hit that guy eight out of the 10 shots.
▶ 47:19 I I think that’s remarkable from the distance that I saw I think that’s really remarkable. Okay that guy didn’t go oh please uh you know slap me on the other cheek I’ll go the extra mile uh just shoot me. No he executed justice. Amen. God isn’t talking about not resisting that kind of criminal you’ve got to understand that. But these religious people in these people that want to mistreat you and persecute you and because you believe in Jesus Christ and the apostles and the prophets and you live right. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek turn to him the other also Jesus never turned the other cheek until he was ready to die on the cross.
Did the apostles always turn the other cheek?
Short answer: No; Christians have been bombarded with “love stuff” until they have no power, and the church is silent about the innocent.
▶ 48:17 The apostles didn’t go around turning the other cheek. When they were stood before the authorities they said whether we’re to obey you or God you decide but we got to preach the gospel. Amen. Christians have been bombarded with this love stuff. To an extreme that we don’t have any power we don’t have any drive. To really stand up for justice. We’ll let the what do they call those people that come in to teach kindergarteners read drag queens yeah. Why does kindergarteners. Or first anybody in school need to hear reading from a drag queen but more importantly why does the drag queen need to be there with our kids.
▶ 49:13 I know why they want to recruit them they want to brainwash them into following them and they are growing they used to be less than one percent of our population back in the 60s now they’re up like the 5 or something see they’re recruiting. And the church is silent it especially when it comes to children the innocent ones we don’t unite and we don’t fight we just come in do our little worship stuff and you know we heard a nice sermon oh well that was great or we heard a lousy sermon we go well he was duh dull today he was off and we go home. We’re not fighting anymore now don’t get me wrong there’s some fighting but we need to get the fight back into us could that be an amen get away from this love stuff what if you’re you know love you go the extra mile you know if anyone sues you at the wall at the law and takes away your outer inner outer garment let him have your inner garment also Jesus never gave his garments away and neither did the apostles.
Scripture in this part
Acts 4:19 (NKJV)
But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.
— Acts 4:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 48:17When do we go the extra mile?
Short answer: With those not physically hurting, robbing or endangering you.
▶ 50:21 Jesus never gave any money to the poor are you aware of that. But see we want to make a big thing out of these minor things instead of a big thing out of the big things and that’s executing justice and righteousness. Of those that are oppressed whoever compels you to go a mile go with them too Jesus didn’t do it when they want to throw him off the cliff of the hill he didn’t say okay get me to the highest part and throw me up. He walked right through them yes shove them aside and walk right through them that’s the kind of power Christ had. His word was so powerful. Give to him who asks of you and from him that wants to borrow from you turn not away he’s talking about these these scribes and these Pharisees and these people that don’t follow the law and the prophets and the righteousness of God yes turn the other cheek to them.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:40-41 (NKJV)
If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
— Matthew 5:40-41 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 50:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What are the four eye-for-eye cases?
Short answer: Harm to a pregnant woman and baby, an indebted servant, citizens wronged, and false witness; fights begin with words and attitudes.
▶ 51:24 Go the extra mile to them they’re not physically hurting you they’re not robbing you of money they’re not endangering you in any way like that at all and see he’s telling us to do these things to these people. Are you with me. Now. There are four. Different. Eye for eye conditions in the Old Testament these are important number one if you hurt a pregnant woman or the pure premature baby that’s in her womb. You have to give eye for eye tooth for tooth life for life here is a tremendous account that the baby in the womb is a human being considered by God with life and if that baby is injured in any way and it says two people are fighting it could be two men it can be two women it could be a man and a woman but anyway the fight ends up being.
▶ 52:28 That they did something to hurt a pregnant woman and the baby in the womb. Are you with me. Now. Why. Would they not resist evil here. Because a fight begins with words. A fight begins with attitudes a fight begins with hate. A fight begins with people mistreating you and you finally get to the place where you want to retaliate. See Jesus said don’t resist evil if one of those people fighting would have refused to fight. They wouldn’t have had to give up their eye or their tooth or their life. Are you there.
▶ 53:26 Hallelujah. But because they didn’t resist evil. At that point where you can’t. They wound up losing control. And saying things and doing things that hurt someone and they were accountable. All right the second one is. When you hurt an indebted servant king James a lot of times calls these slaves and everybody gets the idea that God approved of slavery if you read just two verses above this verse you’ll see that if you kidnap a person and you sell them into slavery or make them your slave you are stoned to death it’s a capital punishment slavery was never acceptable in God eyes in the Bible. Now if you went into debt and you could do this back there you could go to somebody in the land and you could have them pay your debt and you worked off that debt to the seventh year.
▶ 54:31 Or the year of jubilee. See that’s not slavery that’s volunteer. Servanthood. To pay off a debt or you’re poor and you can’t survive you can go to someone and you can work for them while you get your life back together. And get back out on your own are you with me and if you come and attack Israel and you lose the war they could take you and make you their indebted servant to help pay for the costs of the war and the problems created by the war. Are you with me but no one could go and kidnap anyone so if the owner of that indebted servant. Beat that guy and got mad and hit him and knocked his tooth out or knocked his eye out or hurt him in any way caused his ear to not be able to hear anymore making depth in the air then that owner of that indebted servant had to let him go free or else he would have to.
▶ 55:40 Pay for his out with his eye his tooth his ear are you with me. Hallelujah. The third one and see if the s if the owner would have stopped it at the beginning and not lost his temper not lost self-control and not mistreated that indebted servant he wouldn’t have been in the fix he was in. Amen is Jesus a wise teacher absolutely he is just amazing and then the third one here is hurt if you hurt your neighbor same stuff you do something to your neighbor then you’ve got to have it done to you all right and here it says there’s one law for both citizen and the foreigner and America needs to learn that we’re letting illegals come into our nation we’re not only letting them coming in we’re giving them cell phones we’re giving them free motel rooms and free money and everything else free education free medical.
▶ 56:46 This is wrong. And yet if the citizen breaks some law they come after us. Are you with me and the church sits silently. With these atrocities going on we seem to be just happy with feeling the presence of God or hearing some great message and then going home and barbecuing and swimming and you know surfing and the last one a deliberate false witness to harm others. Like Naboth and his vineyard they got two guys to come and say Naboth committed. A crime they did not examine those two witnesses. You’re supposed to examine the witness and if there’s a flaw in the witness then what they wanted done to the victim was done to them now I like that law how about you.

Exodus 21:22-27 (NKJV)
“If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. “If a man strikes the eye of his male or female servant, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for the sake of his eye. And if he knocks out the tooth of his male or female servant, he shall let him go free for the sake of his tooth.
— Exodus 21:22-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 51:24Deuteronomy 19:16-21 (NKJV)
If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing, then both men in the controversy shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days. And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother, then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you. And those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter they shall not again commit such evil among you. Your eye shall not pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
— Deuteronomy 19:16-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 56:46How do we love our enemies?
Short answer: Do good to those who hate you, bless, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
▶ 57:48 You know these guilty people are getting away with too much. And so that’s where the eye for an eye come to now. Let’s go to Luke. Uh Christ we’re going to continue in Matthew but I’m going to take the verses out of Luke Christ continues teaching in Matthew but Luke adds something. And Christ is going to say here in Luke the same thing under love your enemies instead of the eye for an eye. Okay. You have heard it has been said love your neighbor and hate your enemies the Bible never says hate your enemy. The scribes and the Pharisees came up with that. See he’s addressing these bad people.
▶ 58:40 While he’s teaching the good people one gospel. He says but I say to you which here and that is our problem. We don’t get before God to hear what he is saying to the church. Isn’t that what it says in Revelations over and over. They that have a ear let them hear what the spirit is saying to the church. We would just rather hear great speakers. Inspirational speakers motivational speakers. I can get rich speakers. How many you know the scripture says we need our ears dug out to here let me raise your hand and say Lord dig out my ear even though I’ve been walking with you for 40 years dig it dig it more amen.
▶ 59:35 Love your enemies. And then he tells us how to love our enemy do good to them that hate you when the scribes and Pharisees don’t like you you’re a threat to them and they mistreat you in some way you find and then you see them alongside the road and they’re stranded with their car you pull over and you help them even though they hate you. All right they’re not physically hurting you they’re not robbing you they’re not doing anything but just hating your walk with God. Bless them to curse you oh they verbally tear you apart you dream up things and if you did make a mistake they won’t let anybody forget it isn’t that right I mean you could have made a mistake repented from it and you’re all right with God but ten years later they’re still talking about that one thing.
▶ 1:00:37 And what does he say find something good to say about them. Let me know that you you can usually find something good to say about most people amen. But then the third one is pray for them which hurtfully use you despitefully use you yes now we’re getting into the physical pain the emotional pain the financial pain and yes you don’t have to pull over to the side of the road you don’t have to go eat with them. What’s he say to do pray for them. And I find on the internet and on facebook that believers. Have more concern for the eternal soul of other people than the people do for their own soul.
▶ 1:01:31 Yeah they’re always wanting people to inherit eternal life to know Christ they’re always wanting even the worst of the enemies they’re wanting them to come to the knowledge of Christ and those people aren’t even concerned about it but the believer is are you one of those kind yes amen and thank God we have believers that care about the eternal destiny of other people hallelujah. Now then he repeats what he said in eye for an eye he that smite you on the cheek offer the other he that takes away your outer garment give him your inner inner outer garment give him your inner garment give to all that ask you he that takes your goods asked them not again same thing he said in eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth then he says the royal commandment.
▶ 1:02:30 The great one as you would that men should do to you do you also to them likewise that’s why he’s saying don’t resist evil in this arena. Good can help those people get out of their hatred get out of their unrighteous living get out of their mistreating you and they can know God by you having enough. To love them and speak good to them and treat them well though they’re treating you bad amen. If you love them that love you what thank have you sinners love sinners. That’s true. If you lend hoping to receive what think of you sinners lend to sinners hoping that they’ll get something later from them.
Scripture in this part
Luke 6:27-31 (NKJV)
“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
— Luke 6:27-31 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 57:48 (quoted; reference not named in the message)When should we act?
Short answer: At the start, before it becomes pain—that’s how you become a peacemaker.
▶ 1:03:30 Called paola you know. But love your enemies. Do good see how do we love them doing good lending hoping for nothing again. He said. And when do we do this when before the fight starts before physical pain come before it gets into something that’s going to hurt people. And how do we love them we just went through it. And your reward shall be great for we you shall be the children of the highest the children of God. Blessed are the peacemakers. For they are what called the children of God.
▶ 1:04:26 This is how you become a peacemaker. Handle yourself at the initial start of the problem. Amen then it won’t accelerate into something. That you will do to harm yourself and others. I think Christ is really. Showing himself a tremendous teacher here. Amen. We just want to stay away from these people. Now go make them miserable. Somebody asked me why I was going to a funeral. And I said the people that hated me. And I said I’m going to love my enemy.
Scripture in this part
Luke 6:35 (NKJV)
But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.
— Luke 6:35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:03:30 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Does God’s grace to the evil save them?
Short answer: No—He is kind to the unthankful, giving time to repent; be merciful as your Father is merciful.
▶ 1:05:19 And I walked into that funeral sit right on the front row. And yes when you have bad feelings against someone it shows when they walk in you have emotional feelings against them you hate them but it’s our job to what show them the other side. Could that be an amen. Hallelujah. Now here is as the musicians come. The bell ringer. You ready for the bell ringer. Jesus says God is kind unto the unthankful. And to the evil. Because God shows grace to the unthankful and to the evil does that make them save no you can’t just quote Ephesians 2:8 for by grace are you saved through faith.
▶ 1:06:21 Not of yourself and not of works it is the gift of God. Okay you can’t just say that here are people God is gracious to they’re unthankful for his graciousness. They are evil. And God is gracious to them given them time to turn around and change their life. But they’re not saved. Grace did not save them what will save them repentance. Admitting you’re wrong admitting you’re doing things unrighteously. Confessing that. And. Making a commitment to not do that anymore. And asking in Christ to forgive you those sins cleanse you of those sins and come in and live in your life.
▶ 1:07:15 That’s what saves you amen. That you can lay no other foundation than who. Christ is Christ the foundation. Anything you build on has to be built on Christ he’s the savior he’s the Lord he’s the head of the church he is the Lord of the harvest he’s everything. He says be you merciful. As your father in heaven is merciful. Now here’s the kicker. In Matthew he says the same statement but he says be you perfect. As your father in heaven is perfect. Now the people on facebook want to penalize you if you have an evil thought.
▶ 1:08:12 See you’re a sinner you thought of something you shouldn’t have thought about oh my God. See we make things so difficult we give people a burden they can’t even bear. That’s not perfection it’s completeness the word is complete here. And here. Luke is showing us what completeness is being merciful. As God is merciful don’t resist evil. So it doesn’t lead into something that does cause a crime. Do you understand church. Hallelujah. Can we be perfect. Yes these people are can we be merciful is mercy a choice can we be kind to people or can we be unkind.

Luke 6:35-36 (NKJV)
But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
— Luke 6:35-36 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:05:19 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
— Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:05:19 (quoted; reference not named in the message)1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV)
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
— 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:07:15What does the Lord require?
Short answer: To do justly, love mercy and walk humbly—and to speak up and stand up.
▶ 1:09:12 We can be either way we try choose. And God says if you want to be perfect as God is then show mercy to people don’t resist people that say bad things about you that do bad things to you and all the rest but don’t let the criminal go free you understand the criminal must be punished. Hallelujah. So. We’re going to sing. Out of Hosea 6 8. He has shown the old man what is good. Did we see it today the good blessed are there whatever and they get a reward blessed are. They pure in heart they will see God blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness they will be filled with righteousness amen.
▶ 1:10:11 He has shown you old man what is good and what does the Lord require oh I have requirements. I have to do something. My God he must be talking to somebody else. Not the Christian. Yes we have requirements. To do justly. Treat people right treat ourself. Right stand up for the innocent. To love mercy. Mercy is what perfection. God is merciful and walk humbly with your God the Bible says Moses was the most humble man till Christ came along.
▶ 1:11:06 And why was he humble because he stood for God and God’s laws. While most of Israel. Went away. That’s being humble. It’s not I’ll turn the other cheek. I’ll go the extra mile. And I’ll just sit at home and pray for God to save the nation. I won’t do anything. To hurt anybody I don’t want Black Lives Matter hating me I don’t want to anticipating me I don’t want to walk people hating me I’ll just be quiet. Are you there we have a requirement to speak up we have a requirement to stand up and if you will commit to standing up and walking humbly with God and obeying him no matter what the crowd does will you stand with me and let’s sing this unto the Lord.

▶ 1:21:37 We worship we worship you Lord. Thank you Lord. Thank you Jesus. You are wonderful. Jesus thank you we. Exalt you thank you God. Jesus I lift up my voice in prayer.
What does the closing prayer recall?
Short answer: Israel fought to become a nation, then loved its enemies.
▶ 1:22:34 And I ask you father to make this message real to us how to love our enemy how not to resist evil. Lord we’re living in the last days and you said we were living in the last days when you said there shall come a falling away first and Lord we’ve seen the falling away years and years decades centuries ago and we also said Lord you said that there would be a restoration of all things spoken by the mouth of the prophets and Lord we’ve seen the restoration for 200 years of truth coming to your church and Lord you also said in the last days that knowledge shall increase and we have seen Lord us going from the horse and the buggy to space Lord Jesus and and new inventions are happening every day we are in that season of the last days but Lord you also said that the Jews who you prophesied Jesus would be scattered throughout the world because of their rejection of you and their disobedient to your word and your law Lord you said they would be restored back to their geographical location and become a nation again and father we saw in our lifetime that this took place in 1948.
▶ 1:24:01 They became a nation as the scripture says but father. This is what we got to understand. Israel did not become a nation by turning the other cheek to their enemy by going the extra mile with their enemy the enemy the Arabs and the Muslims they all wanted to kill and annihilate Israel before it could even get started as a nation but Israel fought they were out man they didn’t have an air force they didn’t have tanks all they could do is put anti-aircraft guns on trucks and and fight the tanks with them they would drop seltzer bottles from a Piper Cub plane that they had which made a whistle when it went like a bomb whistles and then when it hit the ground it had a tremendous explosion and it’s scared Lord through you being involved with him it scared their enemies these seltzer bottles scared their enemies Lord you have the power to scatter our enemies and Lord they picked up the arms that they had they put their life on the line and they won the battle they defeated several nations who were much greater armed and and much greater in power and much greater in numbers than they were because you had prophesied this would happen and Lord Jesus you were backing it up and it happened but they had to fight
▶ 1:25:31 the fight they had to fight the war and then Lord we got to remember this. Israel turned and loved their enemies. They hired them to come in and work because they didn’t have work in their own nations. They allowed them to have the mosque. On the mount. So they could keep peace. That’s going the extra mile that’s turning the other cheek even though these enemies they fought several wars their Israel turned around and Israel found a way to make water out of sea out of salt water to make pure water out of salt water and Israel has more water than they need in an arid place and he they give the water to the jordanians and the other nations that hate them Lord even the Jews are fulfilling what you ask them to do to not resist their enemies in this kind of condition but Lord love their enemies so that they can be one in the end and father I just pray that your church not only in America but throughout the world would wake up that we are the salt of the earth we are the light of the world but we can only be that if we stand up and Lord we show mercy and we speak truth to those around about us and those that hate us.
▶ 1:27:04 Yes. My. Those online we want to thank you for joining us you’re going to have to listen to that message a few times to get it in you and uh I encourage everyone to listen to it again and hear some truths from God’s word that are not easily seen you have to really understand what Jesus is saying and we’re thankful for God’s word this morning we trust that God bless you with his word thank you for joining us have a great day. We’re going to take.
