A younger speaker follows Jesus’ example of expounding Himself from the Old Testament, using Samson in Judges 14: the Philistine woman pictures God’s love for all people, the torn lion pictures Jesus overcoming Satan with the word, the honey is sweet freedom, and the wife’s pressing shows how to press into God through prayer, fasting, worship and the word.

Did Jesus explain the Old Testament about Himself?

▶ Watch this part (37:01)

Short answer: Yes; beginning at Moses and all the prophets He expounded the things concerning Himself, so we look at Samson.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 37:01 Beginning at Moses and all the prophets. Jesus expounded explained unfolded. To them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. So Jesus spent time with these guys while walking explaining in the Old Testament in the law and the prophets. From Moses. To the end of the Old Testament explaining everything concerning himself. And just like Jesus expounded the scriptures concerning himself this morning we’re going to look into the story of Samson to see it how it pertains to Jesus Christ God uses historical people he uses biographies of real people in history to expound and unfold truths about himself that’s why our God is so great.

▶ 38:01 He picked out people he made things happen in their life. That would tell of his coming that’s a supernatural God. So right now let’s. In Psalms 119 pardon it says open my eyes that I might see wondrous things from your law. The word of God has wondrous things to show us so right now let’s bow our heads close our eyes God we come before you this morning God I pray that all the adults in here God would have a hearing ear to hear your word and hear what your spirit is saying God Lord that you would show us and open our eyes to the wondrous things that you have in your book God not only the New Testament is for us today but God the Old Testament speaks of you declares of you and has so many truths about you Lord Jesus I pray open up our understanding this morning.

Whom does the Philistine woman picture?

▶ Watch this part (39:02)

Short answer: The church and people; Samson wanted her, as God so loved the world He gave His Son.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 39:02 So we’re going to get right into the story of Samson so it started with a woman. It starts with a woman in judges chapter 14 verse 1. Samson says I have seen a woman we’re all looking for a woman of the daughters of the Philistines. Now therefore give for me as a wife and Samson said to his father get get her for me she pleases me well and of course this is talking about the church this is talking about people. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so here we see Jesus Christ he so loved the world he loved the Gentiles he loved the Jews he is looking at everyone and he’s saying I want these people.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Judges 14:1-3 (NKJV)

Now Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.” Then his father and mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brethren, or among all my people, that you must go and get a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” And Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.”

What does God value most?

▶ Watch this part (39:58)

Short answer: Not intelligence or technology; He wants His people, and poverty, status or IQ don’t bother God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 39:58 The intellectual the intelligent the high iq people the smart people that are really I think they’re really amazing they seek to know how the world works and you know we’re glad about that because they produce all kinds of you know advances in technology. But our people looks up to the people in our society look up to them and to them understanding things is the most important where are we coming from how can we live on for trillions of years how can we get to outer space how can we go to other planets and to us we’re kind of just to the average joe we’re kind of beneath them. But you see Jesus Christ. The most intelligent.

▶ 40:50 The most powerful being he says I don’t care about all that stuff. I want you. I want my people. You see he holds us with the most value. And I love that about God you see it throughout the whole thing even with all of our technology today and everything we’re learning about the world and the universe and advances in technology that’s not the point. Jesus knows what’s coming. He knows the world’s going to end everybody’s focused on living for millions man they’re going to have a rude awakening. Jesus is interested in his people. Saving his people growing his people we are not pawns to him we are a prize that Jesus seeks after.

▶ 41:46 That he purchased. Your poverty social status iq does not bother God hallelujah I mean we’re in America most of the world is living in poverty God that doesn’t bother God at all he loves everyone. John 3:19 this is the condemnation that light has come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil and so there’s the balance to that God loves us but this is the condemnation with such love we reject it and we love darkness rather than we love. Him. And we have we produce deeds. And we do things our behavior is evil according to the Bible. To explain this even further to be more specific regarding the daughter of the Philistines so we’re looking at this story again and we’re looking at the New Testament and how does it correspond how does it pertain to Jesus and how does it pertain to us in John chapter 3 verse 35 the woman of samaria said to him how is it that you being a Jew ask a drink from me a Samaritan woman for Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 3:19 (NKJV)

And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Was Jesus interested in Gentiles from the start?

▶ Watch this part (43:03)

Short answer: Yes: the Samaritan woman, and preaching repentance in Zebulun and Naphtali.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 43:03 And so when the Samaritans came they urged him to stay with him and he stayed there two days and many more believe because of his own word so Jesus when he was starting out he stopped and he talked to a Samaritan woman who was a Gentile. Right not a Jew not from Judea a Samaritan your guys aren’t supposed to be talking why are you talking with me Jesus is like I’ve always wanted to talk to you. I’ve always been interested in you. You see Jesus it’s the same thing that Samson is saying go and get that daughter I want that woman see Jesus is after people all over the world and always has been and he stayed with them they asked him to stay and he stayed with him for two days and you know probably talking about a lot remember the Bible says we don’t know all the things that God did if there were books written of everything he did it would fill the planet amen.

▶ 44:13 And many more believe because of his own word. Also in Matthew chapter 4 17 in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali Jesus began to preach and to say repent for the kingdom of God heaven is at hand so Jesus Christ at the beginning of his ministry is reaching out to Gentiles. Can you believe that. Matthew 10 verse 5 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel I’m just pointing out here Jesus has been interested in all people from the beginning from the beginning of his ministry when he started open his mouth he is interested in everyone. In judges chapter 14 verse 4 Samson goes down at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel now to his surprise a young lion came roaring against him.

What does Samson tearing the lion picture?

▶ Watch this part (45:09)

Short answer: Jesus, after the Spirit came on Him, overcame the Devil in the wilderness using God’s word, not His hands.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 45:09 And the spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily and he tore the lion apart you guys remember this Sunday school story as one would have torn apart a young goat though he had nothing in his hand. First Peter 5:8 says your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour now can you remember in your mind what story in the New Testament. That this might pertain to. Where the spirit of the Lord came upon somebody and then he met with the Devil and then he tore them apart. Of course you remember when Jesus Christ was baptized the Bible says the spirit came upon him rested on him like a dove in Matthew chapter 4 verse 1 it says that he was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by who.

▶ 46:06 The Devil. And when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights afterward he was hungry. And it is written and so the Devil and Jesus they have this exchange the Devil is trying to tempt Jesus Christ into worshiping him the temple the Devil tries to tempt him to create bread out of stones the Devil’s just trying to get him to do something you know. He wants to control Jesus and Jesus is like you’re not going to control me okay I’m in charge. So the the lion comes he starts roaring and doing his thing and Jesus is like. It is written every reply he starts with it is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God it is written you shall not tempt the Lord your God.

▶ 47:02 It away with you Satan it is written you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. And then the Devil left him and behold angels came so this story is directly related to Samson Samson tore the lion apart Jesus came the spirit of God was upon him because he was just baptized he went in the wilderness and he tore Satan apart. And Jesus. Through Samson and himself is showing us how we can have power over the spiritual darkness the spiritual world like Samson had power over the natural world out had power in the natural world over the lion we can have power over Satan just like that we have great strength but we got to exercise some principles what did Jesus do he was fasting.

Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ” Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

What authority do we have?

▶ Watch this part (48:05)

Short answer: Jesus gives authority to trample serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 48:05 And when we exercise these principles. We can meet with God we can understand we can know God and I have more here. And Jesus Christ most of all he used God’s word to overcome remember how it said that Samson had nothing in his hand Jesus didn’t use his hands he used God’s word to shut up Satan to tear him apart. Luke chapter 10 verse 18 Jesus says I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven behold I give you the authority to trample on serpent serpents and scorpions and all over all the power of the enemy nothing shall hurt you. And we need to have the right mindset toward the kingdom of darkness you can’t be running around all your life oh the Devil’s after me the kingdom of darkness is too strong it’s not God’s word will shred it apart when you exercise simple principles you have power over this thing it is no problem.

What is the honey in the lion?

▶ Watch this part (49:12)

Short answer: Freedom from sin is sweet, but eat only as much as you need; forgiveness can’t be your whole foundation.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 49:12 It is least on your list of concerns. Judges 14:8 behold a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. In first Samuel 14 verse 29 Jonathan he found some honey. And I’m not going to get into that back story but he said look how my countenance has brightened because I tasted a little of this honey and you see when God overcomes the kingdom of darkness when God overcomes Satan when God has given you freedom from sin and death it is sweet it is a sweet thing. You can taste that honey it’s like oh my gosh thank God when God comes and he lifts the load of sin off your shoulders.

▶ 50:10 It is sweet like honey it’s refreshing. Amen. But in Proverbs chapter 25 it says have you found honey have you found forgiveness have you found the king of glory to lift the load off of you eat only as much as you need. Lest you be filled with it and vomit you see you can’t live your life and have it that foundation on oh God forgive you all the time you know there’s got to be some other things you need to add to your relationship with Jesus Christ. That cannot be your foundation you cannot live on honey every day. Amen. You have to eat the other parts of the word of God.

What does Samson’s riddle teach?

▶ Watch this part (51:12)

Short answer: There are mysteries we don’t understand right away, and God reveals them to babes, new Christians.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 51:12 And judges chapter 14 verse 10 Samson gave a feast. And they brought 30 companions to him to be with him and he said to them let me pose a riddle to you. If you can solve it and explain it within seven days I will give you 30 garments and 30 changes of clothing. And so he poses this riddle. To the 30 companions and they’re scratching their heads and they’re trying to figure out what is he talking about regarding this lion that he had torn apart in Matthew 13 verse 10 Jesus Christ. The disciples asked Jesus they said. What why do you speak to them in parables. He answered and said to them because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven but to them it has not been given so God Jesus when he came he was using parables or like Samson a riddle.

▶ 52:16 Some mysteries there are mysteries that you we don’t understand. And the question is how can we understand. How can we find answers in this life. There are some things that are hidden there are some things that we don’t understand right away but when you do understand them and you do. Obtain them they can give you so much strength and power to overcome in this life. Jesus goes on to say in Matthew 11:25 I thank you father Lord of heaven and earth that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babies you see like I was talking about earlier the intelligent the high iq people oh the wonderful they’re over here they know nothing they don’t see.

▶ 53:11 God’s. Mysteries and never get them revealed because they’re not putting in the principles to find answers from God and God has revealed them to who babies. Us stupid people. Just kidding not stupid people but he’s revealed it to new Christians those who who have not been Christians a long time God will reveal his truths to them and you in your state no matter where you’re at in God you don’t have to be experienced God will begin to reveal his mysteries his truths to you. When you operate the right principles so the companions they demand his wife Samson’s wife entice your husband that he may explain the riddle to us or else we will burn you in your father’s house with fire have you invited us in order to take what is ours.

How did the wife get the answer?

▶ Watch this part (54:10)

Short answer: She wept and pressed Samson seven days; the kingdom suffers violence and we can press Jesus for understanding.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 54:10 Is that not so. I’ll have to come back to this I’m trying to get to a point here. Now going back to the woman the wife it says that she wept on him who on Samson seven days. And it happened on the seventh day that he told her because she had pressed him so much. And I want to remind you of a scripture in the New Testament Matthew 11 verse 12 this is Jesus Christ talking and he says from the days of John the baptist until now the kingdom of God suffers violence. Pressing. People are applying force the gate there are people that are trying to get in they’re trying to get answers they’re pressing into the kingdom and the violent those that are forceful those that are pressing in take it by force.

▶ 55:15 And see that’s what this woman did and that’s what the church can do we go to Jesus and we can press him for an answer we can press him for understanding we can press him. So I submit to you today. If we diligently. Press. Apply force to Christ. A little bit forceful you got to get forceful with Christ right now in your life if you have no uh time for God if in your schedule there’s nothing to operate some pressing principles. Then you’re not going to get any mysteries revealed you’re not going to get any understanding you’re not going to be able to grow that next step in God.

How do we press in?

▶ Watch this part (56:20)

Short answer: With prayer, fasting, participating in worship, reading His word and writing notes.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 56:20 And how do we press in we press in with prayer. Psalms and Proverbs can help you to pray we press in like Jesus did with fasting you can fast one day a week you can skip some meals we press in by participating in worship this is not a uh. Well participating in worship when you come in and you don’t just sit down and listen to the music you get up you participate you are a worshiper and you press in. But it’s not just in worship reading his word praying and writing some notes when you are reading God’s word I tell you uh recently I started writing notes while I read God’s word and it I go back to those notes and I’m like what was that look at oh yeah.

▶ 57:16 Because sometimes God will say something to you and if you don’t write it down you don’t remember nothing there’s no uh you know spiritual memory over here let me tap into my spiritual memory. You know it’s your mind you can’t hold it all in so when you write notes and you go back you it’s wonderful you got to press in you got to find ways in God to take time for him to fit with your life right now. Even as an older person. You may know everything already but I’m sure there’s still more mysteries and more more than that it’s not just mysteries. It’s a relationship with Christ. Getting closer to Christ where it affects your behavior affects your lifestyle affects you. People are looking all over the world they’re looking trying to find something to satisfy themselves trying to find answers in life trying to find what is going to get me up today or what’s going to do this or that.

Who is the customer in the church?

▶ Watch this part (58:24)

Short answer: Jesus; it’s His church, so wrap around His goals instead of asking what the church can do for me.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 58:24 Jesus Christ having a relationship when you meet with him you start to understand hey this is why I’m here. I was listening to. My work had put something on about customer obsession. And they were talking about how the customers in the middle and you wrap your cut your company needs to wrap around that goal around the customer and I was thinking of the church and uh. And there’s an aspect where. We we approach the church in a way that it should serve me as a Christian. How I want to be served. And that’s not the case. Because you’re not the customer. Who’s the customer.

▶ 59:18 To me I think Jesus is the customer. This is his church. We are his people. And we when you put him in the middle and you start wrapping around say how can we reach his goals and what he wants it makes a lot of sense. But you know we also understand there’s new Christians and people need to be brought in and all that but you know our focus right now is. You know what can the church do for me they and I’m going to go on Google and review them and say that they’re stupid and all this but that’s not what it’s about the church is about Jesus Christ. And reaching the goals that he wants to reach. Judges chapter 14 verse 19 the spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily and he went down to ashkelon and killed thirty of their men and took their peril he gave the changes of clothing to those who had explained the riddle as anger was aroused and he went back up to his father’s house simon’s white Samson’s wife was given to his companion who had been his best man.

How does Samson’s story point to Jesus’ ascension and the Spirit?

▶ Watch this part (1:00:29)

Short answer: He was carried to heaven, and the Holy Spirit, whom he calls Jesus’ best man, took on the church.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:00:29 In Luke chapter 24 verse 44 I’m sorry. It came to pass while he blessed them that he was parted from them and carried up into heaven see Jesus after he died and rose from the grave he ascended into heaven and you see in this this story he makes little you know I think Samuel wrote this book but he makes little references that tie in with Jesus Christ and his coming. John chapter 21 verse 25 you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses to me so Samson wife was given to his companion after Jesus rose and went up to the father the church was given over the Holy Spirit came. In acts chapter 2.

▶ 1:01:21 The promise from the father was the Holy Spirit Jesus’s best man. The Holy Spirit. Right he’s when you think of him he’s also. That trinity there. Jesus is best man. The church was given over to the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit took it on and of course we all know it’s God we all know it’s Jesus they’re all the same but this story is is kind of pertaining to when Jesus came and what happened. So I submit to you today. If you. Have questions in your life difficult situations the answers that you’re looking for can come when you will overcome Satan with the word of God tear the line apart.

What is the call to respond?

▶ Watch this part (1:02:17)

Short answer: Keep pressing in continually for answers, receive the Holy Spirit, and don’t make it a one-time thing.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:02:17 You can do it without even using your hands you just use God’s word. Pressing in like the wife did to Samson she pressed him do we press God in your life are you pressing him are you are you seeking after him are you applying principles so that you can obtain some. Answers from God. Answers that will save your life. Answers that will pick you up that will improve your situation. You know this this woman they were threatening to burn her and her family and she pressed God you know we got a threat on our lives. Jesus Christ is the answer are we pressing in with prayer with his word are we participating in worship or we just stand there like a stone it’s a great opportunity to worship God to enter in are we assembling in the house of God I encourage you online if you’re not assembling find a church assemble we’re here on Sunday mornings join us.

▶ 1:03:27 Fast take time in your week to fast all these simple principles. Are so important. Do you have the Holy Spirit. Have you received the Holy Spirit and even when you have done this. Is it just a one-time thing. Or will you keep pressing in. Even at your age if you’re older younger I’m always tired. I’m going to hear it later. All right are you doing it continually. Diligently pressing in to God and we can as worship team comes I’d like to invite you to let’s respond this morning.

▶ 1:04:23 By taking a minute to press into God. To ask God for. Understanding. Answers that we need in our lives and I tell you it’s not going to happen right now you’ve got to exercise the principles. Like that like the wife did she pressed him for days it’s going to take time. But he does give answers I and it’s true I’ve experienced it so many times and I cannot believe it sometimes. I’m really you know I get there’s two ways you can go about asking God for what do you want to say is you can come up and you can get all heady and you can say oh I want to talk about this or you can go to God and you can pray you can seek him you can fast and all of a sudden he’ll come with this little thing.

▶ 1:05:22 And then I’ll go look at that little thing. And I’ll pull it out and I was like wow. Look at that. And God’s word when I start to research it and I mean I touch God. Just learning this stuff and it’s powerful and I wouldn’t give it up. I don’t want to give it up. So I encourage you. Do. Touched me.

How does the service end?

▶ Watch this part (1:06:43)

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:08:11 He touched me. Stop me. He touched me. You.

▶ 1:09:18 Touched me. He touched me. Me. He touched me.

▶ 1:12:09 Will never cease. You touched me. Something happened. Touched me.

▶ 1:13:22 All right. Um. Um. Is.

▶ 1:14:37 Brilliant. Oh. Oh. Bye.

▶ 1:16:06 Oh. Lord we recognize that you’re not finished yet.

▶ 1:17:02 God we recognize that you have another move. God we know the world around us says the church is weak and the Christians are weak and but God we know that’s a lie. God because we serve a mighty God. God as we pray for churches all around America and all around the world God you begin to stir the people begin to stir us Lord Jesus God begin to set us on fire for the word of truth and the word of God God let there be a force from you Lord not from our own spirit but from your spirit God that we would keep the promises. Follow the promises and do the promises.

▶ 1:17:54 God we ask you to stir us today God because you’re the same yesterday and today you’ve not changed it’s us Lord and we pray God that we get back on fire for the things of God and the things of you and Jesus precious holy name amen. Is. Let there be.

▶ 1:19:03 Is. So. Today.

▶ 1:20:07 Jesus. Jesus from the time of Noah he was a righteous man in his generation Lord and we thank you that you’ve shown us Lord that the consistency throughout your word you would have righteous people Lord that in the time Lord of elizabeth and zacharias they were seen to be righteous people and Lord I thank you for the righteous people that you have given us in this church Lord to be examples.

▶ 1:21:21 That Lord we can attain to the things of God if we will keep your commandments and walk in all of your ways we will attain because that’s your purpose Lord to have a church and a bride without spot or wrinkle Lord God so this is what we look forward to Lord that righteousness shall spring up before the nations Lord and justice your justice will flow like mighty waters Jesus and we thank you that you are washing us cleansing us and making us those people to be wise and understanding of the times and know what we should do we thank you in Jesus name everybody said amen. He is.

▶ 1:22:25 Oh. Yes. Yes.
