Jesus' Person and Purpose: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
In “Jesus’ Person and Purpose,” Pastor David G. Kincer walks through Isaiah 44-53: restoration for God’s people and a light to the Gentiles, Cyrus named about 200 years ahead, Isaiah 50:4-6 on a word in season, Isaiah 52 on the marred Servant and kings shutting their mouths, and Isaiah 53 verse by verse, with his own story of hearing Isaiah 53 as a boy.
What does Isaiah 44-53 keep repeating about restoration and idols?
Short answer: He says Isaiah keeps repeating restoration for God’s people when they fall, salvation for the Gentiles, former predictions fulfilled and new ones promised, and the exposure of worthless idols. He says Jesus fulfilled all that was written about him in the law, the prophets and the Psalms.
▶ 0:00 We’re going to look at more prophecies revealing the person and purpose of Jesus Christ we’re going to look at Isaiah chapters 44 through 53 today we’re going to cover all these chapters in one session first of all we are going to find that in Isaiah. 44 chapters 44 through 53 he keeps repeating repeating the restoration and dealing with his people he wants you to understand. That when you fail when you fall when you think you’re not worthy he is there to restore you he wants you to he keeps repeating Isaiah keeps repeating it. And so Christians do not have to get down on themselves they just need to get down before God and ask God to restore them and forgive them amen hallelujah there’s no sin that’s impossible with God so he wants you to know that so he keeps repeating it so I don’t want to keep going over that restoration message and he keeps repeating the salvation and dealing with the Gentiles those who don’t follow God he’s after them they are the God’s people’s enemy they are rejecting God but God still.
▶ 1:18 Is dealing with them and trying to win them to himself he keeps repeating that. In Matthew 17 11 Elijah who was John the Baptist in the spirit. Truly shall first come and restore all things you see. And so in the new testament we find the restoration process going on John the Baptist came teaching. A salvation of repentance through water baptism for the forgiveness of sin the Jewish people weren’t getting forgiven of sins they still had this guilt John the Baptist came along and restored the message at the beginning of Genesis. All right. We just admit we’re wrong.
▶ 2:10 And we ask God to forgive us we turn from that wrong and water baptism is putting our signature on his new covenant contract amen. The apostles later. See they. Predicted there would be a falling away. And a. Restoration. You see and there was and young people these people that say that the Bible’s written by man no man could. Predict these details and then see history follow through and bring them to pass nobody in the first century church thought they were going to fall away except the apostles who had been revealed to. Okay and the church did fall away we went into that area of darkness then God began to restore.
▶ 3:05 And he’s in the process of restoring right now. He keeps repeating the former predictions. That they were fulfilled. And he keeps repeating that I’m going to make new ones. And he exposes. More and more on the worthless idols and other gods. He just plainly in Isaiah he just plainly just destroys. The [unclear] thinking. And idols have a mouth that can’t talk they have ears they can’t hear you make you cuddle tree you cut it down and then you take some of it for a fire to cook with and keep warm and then you take some of it make an idol out of it what kind of deal is that that’s not a God they don’t have any power at all other religions have no power.
▶ 4:01 The Bible says only. Jesus Christ has power and heaven and earth all power in heaven and earth see other religions are just man-made. Religions and he keeps exposing him it’s very good Isaiah is very clear. When we go to Luke 24 44 Jesus said all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms concerning me. Concerning who. Jesus you see and we’re going to look at more of those things today and Jesus fulfilled every one of them. Except the ones that are going to be fulfilled later. He fulfilled hundreds of prophecies about him when he came those three and a half years he did a tremendous thing and no human being could write that.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 17:11 (NKJV)
Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.
— Matthew 17:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:18Isaiah 44:9-20 (NKJV)
Those who make an image, all of them are useless, And their precious things shall not profit; They are their own witnesses; They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed. Who would form a god or mold an image That profits him nothing? Surely all his companions would be ashamed; And the workmen, they are mere men. Let them all be gathered together, Let them stand up; Yet they shall fear, They shall be ashamed together. The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals, Fashions it with hammers, And works it with the strength of his arms. Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails; He drinks no water and is faint. The craftsman stretches out his rule, He marks one out with chalk; He fashions it with a plane, He marks it out with the compass, And makes it like the figure of a man, According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house. He cuts down cedars for himself, And takes the cypress and the oak; He secures it for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it. Then it shall be for a man to burn, For he will take some of it and warm himself; Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; Indeed he makes a god and worships it; He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it. He burns half of it in the fire; With this half he eats meat; He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He even warms himself and says, “Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire.” And the rest of it he makes into a god, His carved image. He falls down before it and worships it, Prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god!” They do not know nor understand; For He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, And their hearts, so that they cannot understand. And no one considers in his heart, Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” He feeds on ashes; A deceived heart has turned him aside; And he cannot deliver his soul, Nor say, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?”
— Isaiah 44:9-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:05Luke 24:44 (NKJV)
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
— Luke 24:44 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:01What are the three questions in Matthew 24:3, and why does he say separating them matters?
Short answer: He says the apostles asked about the destruction of the temple, the sign of his coming and the end of the world, three questions, and that most people think he is answering only the second coming. He says people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, and that we need Christ to open our understanding.
▶ 4:59 Then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures. You see how many of you need your understanding open to understand the scriptures. We do we need to understand for lack of knowledge my people are destroyed it’s not the lack of water baptism not the lack of the baptism of the Holy Ghost it’s not the lack of of saying the sinner’s prayer it’s the lack of knowledge we don’t spend time getting knowledge and asking Christ to open our understanding we just go to the Christian bookstore and get the latest book or watch some mega church pastor on tv and and we think we need to put some study and time into this thing could that be an amen and let Jesus. Open our understanding the truth will set you free and so we see this. Consistent in Isaiah Matthew 24 3. Tells us the apostles came to Jesus and they said tell us when the temple and there in Jerusalem will be destroyed.
▶ 5:59 What shall be the sign of your coming when you leave and return what is the indication that you’re coming back as three things he’s they ask him and. The end of the world you see they asked him three things and so he’s answering three things in that. Passage. And most people get them all mixed up and think he’s answering just the second coming. But he’s not he’s answering three questions so you’ve got to be able to separate those scriptures into three answers. You can’t take the temple dealing and put it at the end time you understand you can’t take the sign and put it at the end time you got to get the all three separate you got it.

Matthew 24:3 (NKJV)
Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
— Matthew 24:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:59Luke 24:45 (NKJV)
And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
— Luke 24:45 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:59 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How did Isaiah name Cyrus 200 years before it happened?
Short answer: He says Isaiah 44:28 predicted a king named Cyrus who would rebuild the temple and restore God’s people to Judah, though Cyrus was a heathen idol worshiper who never knew God. He says it happened 200 years later and asks what other religion can name the person who will do it.
▶ 6:55 All right and so Jesus is what he’s telling us new things that are going to happen and he gets very detailed. Very detailed. In Matthew 13 23 Jesus said I have foretold you all these things I’m telling you what’s going to happen with the temple I’m telling you what’s going to happen before the return and I’m going to tell you what’s going to happen at the return. See he’s foretelling. And that’s what he said in Isaiah he’d do he’d give us new stuff. Amen powerful this this this Bible is just powerful in Isaiah 44 28 he does a startling thing. He predicts. That a person is going a king is going to be born and he tells the name of that king. He predicts and named Cyrus would rebuild the temple and restore God’s people back to the land of Judah.
▶ 7:55 Although this king did not know God he is a heathen king he is a worshiper of idols and although Cyrus never knew God God’s going to come and turn his heart and release the people to build the temple with the money to build the temple and release God’s people back showing us that God cannot only predict the future he can name the people. That’s going to do it for him. Now you showed me a religion that can do that. Are you here today church this is a powerful book. Absolutely powerful book and it happened 200 years later. Cyrus was born became king and did exactly what God said he would have done 200 years before.

Matthew 24:25 (NKJV)
See, I have told you beforehand.
— Matthew 24:25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:55Isaiah 44:28 (NKJV)
Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” And to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid.” ’
— Isaiah 44:28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:55What does Isaiah 49:6 say about the servant as a light to the Gentiles?
Short answer: He says Isaiah gave predictions about Jesus 600 years ahead, and that Isaiah 49:6 says restoring Israel is too small a thing, so the servant will be a light to the Gentiles and salvation to the ends of the earth. He says God is out to turn around the enemies of the church, though not all will turn.
▶ 8:53 Hallelujah. Now. Predictions about Jesus he gets into the predictions about Jesus in these verses in these chapters 600 years before they happen 600 years is a long time you give me anybody today that can predict things 600 years from now even these Christian so-called so-called end-time prophets they’re giving us prophecies you know 5 10 15 years and then 5 10 15 years go by in the wrong. And if you knew your Bible you knew they were lying to begin with but if you don’t know their Bible you believe it you get all worked up hallelujah. Yeah and then even Chuck Smith. Who predicted the return of Christ in 1982.
▶ 9:48 Missed. Are you there. The bottom line is nobody what. Why do we try to predict something that Jesus said twice nobody no. Not I don’t even know Jesus said my father in heaven he knows when the kingdom’s going to he knows these things. Hallelujah so don’t get let people get you worked up. This this Bible will set you free and keep you healthy and solid so 600 year prophecies. Isaiah 49 6 it’s too small a thing that you be my servant talking about Jesus to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel here’s that message of restoration. How many of you know enough Christians that you know they fall they fail they sin how many of you know enough Christians.
▶ 10:47 Where’s the rest of you. And God said what. My servant’s going to restore my people when they fall when they get rusty when they start falling apart you’re going to store and put them back together and make them brand new all right but he says this is too small a thing to restore believers is too easy. My servant will be given as a light to the Gentiles and you will be my salvation to the ends of the earth he’s going to bring in the rejecters of God the enemies of God and enemies of the church the homosexual activists the liberalists the the humanists the religionists he is out to turn them around and not all will turn but he is out to turn him around and God says restoring my people is too easy I’m going to give you the tough job.

Matthew 24:36 (NKJV)
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
— Matthew 24:36 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:48 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Isaiah 49:6 (NKJV)
Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”
— Isaiah 49:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:48Revelation 5:9 (NKJV)
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
— Revelation 5:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:47 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does Isaiah 50:4 say about a word in season to the weary?
Short answer: He says Jesus knows how to speak to the weary, and that he speaks through his church by doctrine, prophecy, revelation and teaching, with the utterance gifts. He says tongues without interpretation do not edify, and that the top gift to focus on is the word of wisdom.
▶ 11:47 And Jesus the Bible says in Revelations brought people out of every kindred time tribe tongue and nation it is going to be fulfilled and it is being fulfilled. Isaiah 50 verse 4 through 6 the Lord hath given me the tongue of the learned. That I know how to speak a word in season to the weary. Okay Jesus knows how to speak to you. But he speaks four different ways according to first Corinthians 14. By doctrine by prophecy by revelation. Teaching all right. And. Nine gifts of the spirit several of them are utterance gifts tongues and interpretation is an utterance gift that Christ can speak through his church to comfort and inspire and set free those that are tired and weary and worn.
▶ 12:51 Speaking by the inspiration of God is also not the office of a prophet that’s a big difference but prophecy for the edification exhortation and comfort of the church Jesus can come and he can speak through his people to those that are weary Jesus knows how to do it are you with me. Hallelujah then you’ve got the word of wisdom and word of knowledge which is the top one. The word of wisdom. And you don’t find that very prevalent in the church. And in Pentecostal circles. They speak a lot of tongues even without interpretation so that doesn’t edify. That doesn’t teach the weary. We should be focused on on the top gift and except wherever we land and the top gift is what the word of wisdom.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 50:4-6 (NKJV)
“The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned. The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away. I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.
— Isaiah 50:4-6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:471 Corinthians 14:6 (NKJV)
But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?
— 1 Corinthians 14:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:47What does he say about wisdom, knowledge and Jesus not turning away?
Short answer: He says the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and full of mercy, and that the church needs it. He says Jesus accepted responsibility and did not turn away, and that the church must perform what it learns instead of only praying that someone else will do it.
▶ 13:46 The wisdom and love are the two top doctrines of the Bible the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable. Gentle willing to yield willing to submit we’ll only go along with the flow of God full of mercy and good fruits they’re good people without partiality and without hypocrisy that’s the wisdom from above. Could the church in America use some wisdom from above. We need to pray about and seek for that top gift wisdom the second one is knowledge for lack of knowledge my people are destroyed it’s not for lack of tongues not for lack of prophecy it’s lack of. Knowledge. Getting it. And in your prayer time you should be praying for big things. And wisdom is a big thing okay I was not rebellious.
▶ 14:42 Speaking of Jesus Jesus wasn’t rebellious nor turned away like we do you know we want God to send somebody else to the Gentiles to win them we want God to send somebody else to the Christian that is distorted in his doctrine and fallen and in sin now we just want to pray about it we don’t want to do anything about it but Jesus was not what rebellious he didn’t turn away he accepted responsibility and this church has to accept the responsibility of letting Jesus give us a word that will comfort deliver set free and heal those that are worn in weary whether they’re Gentiles or whether they’re Christians could that be an amen and somewhere this church this body right here we’ve got to get focused. We can’t just learn about the Bible we got to learn about it so we can what perform it unite together and get the job done.
Scripture in this part
James 3:17 (NKJV)
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
— James 3:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:46Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
— Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:46 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What do Isaiah 50:6 and Isaiah 51:11 say about suffering and everlasting joy?
Short answer: He says Isaiah 50:6 was fulfilled when they struck him, plucked his beard and beat him, and that Christ took the beating we deserved. He reads Isaiah 51:11, that the redeemed return to Zion with everlasting joy, and says joy does not depend on circumstances, as with Paul and Silas in prison.
▶ 15:40 Hallelujah boy that was a good statement right there. I gave my back to those who struck me my cheeks to those who plucked out the beard I did not hide my face from shame and spitting and when you go to the new testament they spit on him they pluck this beard. Which just brings a big gap of skin and I just yeah it leaves a. They beat. Him with rod they beat him with the cat-o’-nine tails. He was a he was a horrible looking mess when they got done with him. And he. You know the Bible says if Christ suffered we shall also suffer with him now we don’t have to take the beating and die and all that but if they rejected Christ belittled him they’re going to what reject us belittle us call us you know false prophets and all the rest that’s part of the package.
▶ 16:40 But. He took your beating for you you deserve because of your bad decisions too go through what he went through and he went through them for you make sure you get that right hallelujah. Now. Isaiah 51 11 the redeemed of the Lord shall return who’s going to return. The redeemed those purchased who’s the purchaser. Jesus. Jesus is the redeemer. And we’re going to recom to the Zion that Zion is what the church the body of Christ with everlasting joy upon their head how long is everlasting joy. Everlasting. See Christians because of Christ when he really redeems us when you really get born again and don’t let anyone belittle that statement being born again we’re born of the spirit we’re born of the word.
▶ 17:40 That’s that that’s that. Connection with God when we come to him and he turns us into people of joy they obtain gladness and joy and sorrow and mourning shall flee away so people they get born again they have a source of joy it doesn’t matter what’s happening around them like Peter when he was in prison he’s going to die the next day and Paul and Silas when they were in prison they worship and praise God they still had the what everlasting joy their circumstances didn’t take the joy away. That’s how powerful the blood of Christ is that’s how powerful his death is. He takes your sorrow and he gives you joy. And Jesus said I’ll give you joy that no man can take away.

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
— John 16:22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 17:40 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does Isaiah 52:7 say about good tidings and God reigning?
Short answer: He says Jesus brought the good tidings and chose twelve apostles to take them, and that the message is that your God reigns. He says Jesus is not the soon-coming king, he is king now and is coming back as king, and that right doctrine brings the right attitude and fruit.
▶ 18:35 Hallelujah. Isn’t that a great promise how many want to go through life joyfully instead of depressed and saddened yeah oh yeah you get up in tomorrow it’s another day praise God hallelujah I gotta get over it I get to go to work I get to feed that baby at two o’clock in the night yo oh hallelujah. Joy. This is a possession of. The saints because of Jesus Christ on the cross now folks that’s good stuff Isaiah is telling you. Isaiah 52 7 how beautiful on the mountains or the feet of him. That bring good tidings. Who is the first hymn that brought the good tidings that pronoun. Jesus. Then he chose 12 apostles to take his message.
▶ 19:29 That published peace that published salvation that says to Zion your God rules your God reigns your God is in control. It doesn’t matter if it looks like we’re losing the battle God is still in control and in the end we’re going to win. Are you there see that’s the powerful message of Christ all authority has been given to him in heaven and earth he has control now don’t look at your circumstances and don’t look at the news on the radio and tv God who is in control God’s in control so everything is going to work out for us in the end can that be an amen and that’s the message of the gospel he reigns now he is not the soon-coming king he is king now and he’s coming back as king.
▶ 20:28 Hallelujah. See when your doctrine’s right your attitude’s right. Your fruit’s right. 52 8 your watchmen shall lift up the voice together the watchman was the guy that was placed on the wall several of them and their job was to stay up all night. And then a new group come in during the day and their job is to watch the horizon watch out there for any army or any enemy coming against that city. And Isaiah says Jesus is this watchman. They will lift up the voice together and they will sing why do Protestants sing because all through the Bible. God tells us to sing. Hallelujah.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 52:7 (NKJV)
How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
— Isaiah 52:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:35Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
— Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:29 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Isaiah 52:8 (NKJV)
Your watchmen shall lift up their voices, With their voices they shall sing together; For they shall see eye to eye When the LORD brings back Zion.
— Isaiah 52:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:28What does Isaiah 52:8, "see eye to eye," mean for the church?
Short answer: He says the apostles saw eye to eye but the churches in the epistles did not, and that today the church is divided into many denominations. He says Jesus prayed that they may be one and that prayer will not go unanswered, so seeing eye to eye is a sign before the second coming.
▶ 21:20 That’s the way the world knows who we are we sing about Jesus we sing unto Jesus. For they shall see eye to eye when the Lord shall build again Zion. Now get your logical brain on. You got your logical mind your that’s switched with the switch on now. The apostles. Saw eye to eye. Didn’t they. Didn’t they but when you read the epistles. Did the churches the members see eye to eye. No way. No way. That’s why the epistles were written. Trying to instruct all these churches and these elders that they put in charge of the churches to straighten them out elders are one of the worst things they can be if you’re not called to be one if you’re just given a title for an elder you are worthless.
▶ 22:24 If you got the ability if you got the job description and the skills then you are profitable that church otherwise you got a name with an empty tank. Wow that was good. And that’s what we had over here we had elders putting in charge of churches that had empty tanks they just had a title. Now let me ask you this. In our generation. Are the churches and church leaders seeing eye to eye. No way we got we got 120 different denominations of just Baptists. We got about 30 that call themselves Pentecostal all different. Then you got the charismatic it’s got several in it even the Catholic church has the old established Catholic church in this Catholic church and another Catholic church you see we are so divided.
▶ 23:25 The Lutherans the Methodists and you know Apostolic and so forth now let me ask you. Did everything concerning Jesus have to be fulfilled did we read that. Huh. Did he pray to the father and John in the gospel of John and say father make them one as you and I are one that the world may see and believe that you. Love them and has sent me. Now is Jesus’s prayer going to go unanswered. No way. Is Jesus’s prediction that we’re going to see eye to eye going to go unanswered no way he’s big enough to do this but he hasn’t done it yet folks. In this room we don’t see eye to eye.
▶ 24:24 And a lot of the reasons we don’t see eye because we got strong opinions from the past instead of going to the book. Like we did in Genesis and show that one wife was the program. Amen. And so when you’re wrong you got to think change your thinking that men were to rule their wife and the wife was to have children care for them care for the husband. Care for that household that was the responsibilities given both men were given rulership over every woman women can think for themselves when you become 20 in the Bible you become an adult you become the age of being responsible for yourself your decisions you’re responsible for. And if you’re a lazy 20 year old you’re going to pay the price if you haven’t prepared for that adult time you’re going to be hurting.
▶ 25:22 Are you out there. You see we can’t formulate opinions from books in the bookstore or Christian bookstores or we got to go to the Bible. And I tell you one of the signs of the second coming is that people are going to see eye to eye because God’s gonna move and ex reveal himself and lift himself up and the word up and we’re gonna throw away these opinions in this nonsense and we’re going to be focused on one in Christ. Because every prophecy has to be fulfilled before Christ comes. So he can’t come any minute. And I lose a lot of people because they really believe in this rapture thing so strongly and several years of tribulation and he can come now and this is it that they can’t stand me.

Isaiah 52:8 (NKJV)
Your watchmen shall lift up their voices, With their voices they shall sing together; For they shall see eye to eye When the LORD brings back Zion.
— Isaiah 52:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:20John 17:21-23 (NKJV)
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
— John 17:21-23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:25What do Isaiah 52:13-14 say about the servant being exalted and marred?
Short answer: He says the Servant would deal wisely and be exalted, yet his appearance was marred more than any man’s, from the beating, the plucked beard and the crown of thorns. He says no picture he has seen comes close, and that when we suffer we should look to Jesus.
▶ 26:15 But one day God’s going to open our understanding. That he’s in control of this thing he reigns now and he’s going to reveal himself as a powerful God before he comes in person could that be good Bible teaching yes. Isaiah 52 13 my servant shall deal prudently wisely. He will be exalted extolled and be very high and Jesus was when he came God gave him a name above every name his scepter was a righteous scepter. He was pleased with him. And then it says his appearance was so marred more than any man and his form more than the sons of men. Talking about that beating and that yeah the plucking of the beard and the crown of thorns and all that they just they just tore that guy up there is no picture that I’ve ever seen of Jesus.
▶ 27:21 From. Being beaten to the cross that ever even comes close to what really. Happened. So he has been damaged marred hurt disfigured more than anybody on earth and you just remember as we get into this story when you go through some difficulties and things aren’t going too good for you or you have a death in the family whatever remember. God’s son died. And God’s son suffered when he was innocent more than you are suffering in your little thing that you think is big. You see look to Jesus.

Isaiah 52:13-14 (NKJV)
Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;
— Isaiah 52:13-14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:15What does Isaiah 52:15 say about kings shutting their mouths, and has it happened?
Short answer: He says it was not fulfilled when Christ was on earth, since Caesar never saw Jesus or the miracles and many nations were unknown to the apostles. He says it has not been fulfilled yet, because governments belittle Jesus and the Bible, and that it must be fulfilled before Christ returns.
▶ 28:14 Look to Jesus then he says after his appearance being marred he says so. So it means after that or then see after. The beatings. After his sacrifice. After that he shall sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at him for that which had not been told them shall they see and that which they had not heard shall they consider. Now let me ask you was this fulfilled when Christ was on earth and the apostles prayed. You’re wise and not saying anything. It was not fulfilled. Okay Caesar never got to see anything.
▶ 29:07 He got to hear Paul’s testimony. He never got to see Jesus never got to see miracles. The kingdoms around the middle east was just a small group of cultures. Now we know that there were cultures over in south America north America Australia islands of the seas. The Arctic. See we know that there were many nations means people there were many people out there that Paul and Peter and them didn’t even know about. That make sense. And he and remember every prophecy will what be fulfilled he says he’s going to prop sprinkle many people many cultures many languages many nations kings shall shut their mouth have they no way.
▶ 30:11 Including our own president and congress they belittle the Bible they belittle Jesus they belittle Christianity. Communist government belittles it. The India government you name it there’s nobody afraid. The only people they’re afraid of is the Muslims. If you say anything about the Muslims they come and cut your head off so everybody’s quiet. Are you there. This has not been fulfilled yet folks. They’re not considering the gospel right now. Oh they can hear it but they’re not what considering it they’re not recognizing it they’re not taking it into consideration at all they are belittling. Most of the governments of the world belittle.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 52:15 (NKJV)
So shall He sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; For what had not been told them they shall see, And what they had not heard they shall consider.
— Isaiah 52:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:14What does Isaiah 53:2 say about how Jesus looked?
Short answer: He says the Bible says Jesus had no form or comeliness, and that pictures of a handsome, joyful Jesus are not what Isaiah describes. He says that after the beating and the cross there was no skin left, that he hung naked on the cross, and that the scars remained after the resurrection.
▶ 31:04 Jesus and the Bible and the church. How many of you know enough of present-day history that what I told you is true yeah this is true so is this going to be fulfilled. It hasn’t been fulfilled. But it what will be fulfilled and it has to be fulfilled before the return of Christ. Hallelujah this should be good stuff for you. Isaiah is really clear. Now he had no form or comeliness and we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him you get pictures of Jesus. Here we got happy handsome Jesus the joy of the Lord is nice. For people that want a Jesus that’s handsome and joyful yeah God is acting and then this guy’s as good looking as they come.
▶ 32:03 And the Bible says Jesus had no handsomeness at all. You look at him you wouldn’t want anything to do with him physically his appearance there was nothing there but his message. And his character that would draw you to him. Do you understand that young. People. This is the closest I can come to what Jesus looked like after that beating and carrying that cross and that is about ten percent of what really happened. He said you wouldn’t have seen any skin here. That kind of nine tails just tore that skin right off and when you cut your skin blood comes out I mean. A thin cut on the skin blood just gushes out am I right so he’s a bloody mess blood is just everywhere blood running down his face blood he’s got he’s just beaten they they got a few they got a few scars a few he there was no skin left.
▶ 33:12 That’s what Isaiah is trying to tell you. And here we got him on the cross and he’s wearing underwear. He’s wearing underwear here he was naked as a jaybird. The shame they took his clothes. He hung naked on that cross. We cover it up because we want to be modest but they should cover it up a better way it looks like he’s wearing a loin and he didn’t he was naked that’s the embarrassment before all the people he was stripped naked. And then they have him coming out of the grave. White robes everything beautiful whatever he come out of that grave the way he went in. Naked. The scars were there he told Thomas put your hand in my sight put your finger in the holes in my hand.
▶ 34:12 The scars were still there when you go to heaven and you see Jesus standing on the right hand of the father you’re going to see a man that was beaten to a pulp. For you and me. Hallelujah so when you think you’re you got things tough you just remember Jesus and you say well he was God he got no he was God and man the Bible says the man Jesus he was human and he was God and when it come to the desires to sin and the pain of being beaten and all that the Bible says he was just like us and so we he understands us because he was just like us but without sin.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 53:2 (NKJV)
For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
— Isaiah 53:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:04John 20:27 (NKJV)
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
— John 20:27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:12 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How did Isaiah 53 reach him as a boy, and what does Isaiah 53:3-6 say?
Short answer: He says two Baptist women from Philadelphia taught Isaiah 53 in a schoolhouse when he was about nine to eleven, and that he rejected Jesus until he was 20. He reads that Jesus was despised and rejected, bore our griefs and sorrows, was wounded for our transgressions, and that with his stripes we are healed.
▶ 35:06 He felt that pain. And he did it because he loves you and to forgive you of all this sin. He was despised and rejected of men. I rejected Christ till I was 20 years old hearing messages that were very powerful I rejected him in fact the first time that the Bible came alive to me as in Philadelphia two Baptist women. Decided they were going to be missionaries to the poor white trash in the Appalachian mountains and so these two women came down from Philadelphia and they held church and teachings in the schoolhouse on Sunday when the school wasn’t open or at night when the school wasn’t open. And.
▶ 35:58 My cousin took me to one of the meetings I was about 9 10 11 years old somewhere around there. And that woman made the gospel so clear wow and she taught out of Isaiah. I sit there for I had been going to church because my mom and dad had got saved. In the late 40s and been taking me to church I never understood a thing they were saying but that’s because most of them are ignorant hillbillies. They had salvation but they could not communicate it. Now hillbillies aren’t the only one ignorant folks they don’t look like us hillbillies are just the skudge of the earth here city folks can be dumb too. So you got people that don’t know the Bible trying to teach the Bible and I was just bored in Sunday school they never said anything.
▶ 36:51 That even moved me I just sat there waiting for the talk to go by and then this lady comes along and she keeps my attention she makes this thing clear and the scriptures opened up to me who Jesus was in his death on the cross and how he loved me and I decided that day Jesus was real the Bible was real but I would not answer. The call to give my life to him. I was stubborn. I had plans but I argued for Jesus in the Bible the rest of my life even before I knew him even before I came to him because that’s how real that word was. Hallelujah. So ah that word just set me free and it was this word this scripture just broke me Isaiah 53 just broke me.
▶ 37:46 He was a man of sorrows rejected I rejected him he was acquainted with grief and we hid as our faces from him that’s what I did that day even though I knew he was real even I know that woman’s message was real the word of God was piercing me the presence of God was convicting me I rejected Jesus. One woman’s fault. It wasn’t because she was a Baptist. It was my fault. God tore that word right into my heart and I rejected him. And you can reject him today you can hear truth that you don’t want and reject him and see that grieves Christ he yearns for you he loves you we hid our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not we put no value on him.
▶ 38:39 Surely he has borne our griefs, whose griefs? Ours and carried our sorrows whose sorrows. Ours no matter if you’re rich poor male female you know four years old or 40 years old it’s for you. We esteemed him stricken smitten of God and afflicted like Job see they came to job his three friends and they blamed Job. That God. Smote him with the death of his children losing his money losing his wealth and losing his health because Job sinned you see and that’s what we do today. And uh if things don’t go right we blame God well if there was a God why is allowed it all the wars see that that’s what they do are you there.
▶ 39:34 If there’s a God why does he allow all this suffering well if you read your Bible you would know. That is not God it’s us human beings that’s the fault. He was wounded for our transgressions our sins bruised for our iniquity our lawlessness not following the word the correction of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed. Healed from sin. Healed from depression. Healed from a weak mind healed from physical sicknesses. He’s the healer. We all like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord laid on him.
▶ 40:29 The iniquity. The lawlessness of us all hallelujah I tell you that message when I was a young boy 10 or 11 years old just pierce my soul. I wanted to cry but. I wasn’t masculine man I had to sit there and I wanted to respond when she asks for a commitment and a choice to serve God but. Hallelujah I’ve got to be stubborn. I wasn’t raised that way that’s not. Me. Are you identifying. Yeah. I’ll think about it. How many have sinned in here. Well at least we got an honest bunch what is sin.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 53:3-6 (NKJV)
He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
— Isaiah 53:3-6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:06What do Isaiah 53:7-9 say, and who declares his generation?
Short answer: He says sin is breaking the law of God, the same as crime in society. He reads that Jesus was led as a lamb to the slaughter and cut off, and says we are the ones who declare his generation, his message, and that he was buried with the rich and with the wicked as Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb fulfilled.
▶ 41:22 And breaking the law of God that’s what’s in it when God says something is right you violate it you sin. The same word in our society is crime. Okay. When you break a law you commit a crime that’s what sin is same word. He was oppressed afflicted. And we opened not he opened not his mouth as a lamb to the slaughter. As a sheep before her shearers is dumb so oh he opened not his mouth. He was taken from prison taken from judgment who shall declare his generation for he was cut off he was killed. Out of the land of the living. And he was killed for the transgression of my people was he stricken so who’s going to declare his generation his age his message you and I.
▶ 42:26 You and I. And if we’re not declaring it we’re coming short of the gospel church please listen we need to unite we need to get a goal we need to get organized and get the message out to these homes that need to hear it in Elsinore. The people that need to hear it they reject that that’s fine but it’s our job to declare his generation declare his death for everybody’s sins. Declare his death so that believers could be restored. Unbelievers could become believers. And somewhere this has got to grip us. We need to be weeping about this in our closet at home and crying out to God God here I am as as the prophet said use me here I am use me use this church.
▶ 43:19 Could that be an amen. He made his grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death and that’s exactly how it was fulfilled. He died because they said he was a wicked man and the rich man Josephus or Joseph of Arimathea gave him his tomb both were fulfilled. Because he had done no violence neither was any deceit in his mouth. They killed him like they killed wicked people and he had done nothing wrong. He had not even violated their own laws. They just didn’t like his message. They didn’t want to repent. They didn’t want to walk in. Truth. Yet it pleased the Lord wow.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 53:7-9 (NKJV)
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
— Isaiah 53:7-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 41:22In what way does he say the Father was pleased, in Isaiah 53:10?
Short answer: He says it pleased the Lord to bruise him because it was what God said would happen before the foundation of the world. He compares it to a parent letting children learn hard things, and says God is also pleased with us when we go through affliction without complaining, because a resurrection is coming.
▶ 44:12 God was happy about that he was pleased with the death of Christ. And you see God up in heaven going way to go boy this is good this is good here he’s down here he’s in pain blood’s ever running everywhere oh he’s thirsty he’s weak he can’t even carry the cross and God’s up there yeah this is good yeah yeah I’m pleased with this way to go son that’s good are you there. Are you as a parent please when your kids are learning things the hard way. Or do you get them out of it. Wow that was something to think on wasn’t it. Moms are notorious. For getting their kids out of. It.
▶ 45:04 You know some things they’re going to have to learn the hard way. When they’re wrong they’re wrong but God the father. His son had did nothing wrong and yet they were doing what God said would happen before the foundation of the world and God was pleased. Hallelujah. Let’s look at it another way. Is God pleased with us when we’re suffering in our afflictions because we initiated them mostly or others might initiate them and we’re getting through it. Our mouth is shut we’re not complaining we’re not blaming. Is God pleased yes and how do you know there’s a resurrection coming.
▶ 45:57 That suffering is going to be relieved and you’re going to be better for it and so is the kingdom of God now that was good stuff right there hallelujah. Please the Lord to bruise him to put him to grief and when you make his soul an offering for sin. He shall see his seed. Who’s his seed we are. Prolong his days who’s his there. Yeah yeah do you ever ask yourself these questions. See it’s a pronoun trying to connect. The. Thought. What’s the paragraph about. His seed.
▶ 46:50 So who’s whose days are going to be prolonged. Hour. Hours. He is out. And the pleasure of the Lord shall what prosper. You see. In his hands Jesus’s hands whose hands are we in. Is God pleased with us because we accepted him and turned from our sin yes does God want the props for us yes we’re talking about spiritually mentally emotionally. Financially. Right he wants you to be successful young people chris the Christian walk walk God’s way is the most successful life here on earth. Hallelujah.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
— Isaiah 53:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 44:12What do Isaiah 53:11-12 say about justification and intercession?
Short answer: He says Jesus makes many right, the nations are the spoil he is after, and that he is interceding before God now. He says only Jesus is the mediator, Mary cannot intercede, and the message of the cross is restoration, saved from sin, and a call to be a full covenant believer.
▶ 47:43 As I said Friday night these are the steps to success in life. And Jesus. Made it happen. And. He shall see the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify. Many justify means make right for he shall bear their iniquities. See you’re justified right now by the blood and you’re growing into the actions of justification. Does that make sense to you so you’re learning how to live that life of right therefore I will divide his portion with the great he’s given a name above every name. He shall divide the spoil with the strong. What’s the spoil he’s after. The nations yeah the people he died for the world.
▶ 48:40 Because he has poured out his soul unto death he was numbered with the transgressors he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors he’s up there interceding right now Hebrews says before God for this world and for his church. And God’s going to hear him not Mary God’s going to hear. Him. Mary cannot intercede for I don’t know these people that that’s just ridiculous. Mary’s just a person like us Paul was a person like us none of those guys could intercede for us Jesus intercedes for us Jesus is the mediator Jesus is what causes God. To answer prayer and bless us are you there and he has the authority to do it because he died for us he understands us he went through everything that we went through. And we are done.
▶ 49:34 With the greatest story ever taught and I told you as a nine or ten year old Isaiah just melted my heart touched me deep had an effect on me for the rest of my life although I didn’t come to Christ till I was 20 years old. This message of the cross is the gospel restoration saved from sin he’ll grow us he’ll mature us he’ll bring us to a place where we’re the light of the world and give honor to God. Amen. And it’s for you. And you can choose him today. And if you already chose him you can choose. To let his fullness. Be in your life not just a half covenant quarter covenant but a full covenant believer.
