Why ask “Is love a lie?”

▶ Watch this part (30:29)

Short answer: Spouses, children and parents say “I love you” while abusing or shaming one another; abortion is called love.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 30:29 May find your seats. Foreign. Well I have the lesson sheet but uh. You know when you’re doing a lot of things you print it out even I think I even touched it even but it did not make it here so uh I can send it out another time but we’re going to get into the word this morning and our question this morning is love a lie.

▶ 31:27 I asked this question because spouses will say I love you while verbally physically and psychologically abusing one another children will say I love you to their parents but they shame their parents by bad behavior parents say I love you to their children but verbally physically abuse them and even in other ways of use them society demands that you love them by working and paying for their preventable diseases society says that it is love to murder the baby so the mother does not have to put up with raising a child she doesn’t want society demands that you love them by shutting your mouth and not saying anything against harmful behavior society demands that we promote accept and support transgender medical procedures and medication on minors which will affect their future health care for all is love poi choice pro-choice for all is love inclusivity is love you need to love your neighbor by giving them all your money and possessions.

▶ 32:28 And that is what is being said to us is love and my question is is love a lie so being on the other end as the child is being ripped open in the womb and you look at that and you say is love a lie it’s a good question. Uh Mr. Newsom came out and said love your neighbor it’s loving your neighbor for a women’s uh. Abortions love is love is a slogan for homosexuality so is love a lie. First John 4:16 says God is love and he who abides in love and abides in God and God in him so immediately we know the answer to the question is love a lie is love a lie no.

Is love a lie?

▶ Watch this part (33:21)

Short answer: No—God is love; let God be true and every man a liar.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 33:21 Why because God is love. Romans 3:4 says let God be true but every man a liar. So is love a lie no God is love who’s lying man is lying let God be what true and every man a liar. We’re going to go back to the rich man we went over this a few weeks ago Matthew 19:17 Jesus said to him or the rich man came up and said Lord how do I obtain. Eternal life Jesus said if you want eternal life keep the commandments. And he says which ones Jesus said you shall not murder not commit adultery not steal not bear false witness on your father and mother you shall love your neighbor as yourself so he sums them up with that famous statement you shall love your neighbor as yourself you see that.

Scripture (NKJV)

1 John 4:16 (NKJV)

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

Scripture (NKJV)

Romans 3:4 (NKJV)

Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.”

— Romans 3:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What did Jesus tell the rich man?

▶ Watch this part (34:27)

Short answer: Keep the commandments—He left out coveting, the rich man’s problem; greed is idolatry.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 34:27 He’s quoting out of the Old Testament and what is he quoting from what are they called the ten commandments. Of course in this statement he’s leaving one out and what is it do not covet. Why is he leaving that out because that was the rich man’s problem. And also idolatry. The young man said to him all these things I have kept from my youth. The rich man was not stealing. He said all these things I have kept just because people are rich does not mean they got their riches unlawfully. Communism and socialism today. Which is being taught in our colleges and schools will teach you uh in a roundabout way or a direct way that if you’re rich you’re stealing.

▶ 35:26 And that’s not true. But. Nevertheless every rich person has to deal with covetousness and idolatry you have to address that in your life if you’re someone who is idolatrous meaning greed the Bible says is as idolatry if money is now your God or covetous you wanna you want something that somebody else has so much you want you’re going to do whatever it takes to get it. Rich people have to deal with this they have to address that but you can be rich it’s just hard like the scriptures say it’s hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God why because they have to deal with these things. But you have to remember in the Old Testament I want to point out in God’s economy before king Saul they paid ten percent.

▶ 36:26 That was the tithe to. The tabernacle to the high priests the Levites and that was it. They didn’t pay 30 they didn’t pay this tax and that tax and all these taxes no and God’s economy it was 10 and that number has not changed for thousands of years when you pay your tithes you pay 10 and that number has not changed isn’t God just. Amen.

Matthew 19:17-19 (NKJV)

So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

How does Scripture define love?

▶ Watch this part (37:07)

Short answer: Love does no harm to a neighbor; the commandments define love and harm.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 37:07 Now why am I bringing up these laws let’s go back to that he says all these things I’ve kept from my youth he’s kept all of the commandments on loving your neighbor and it sums it up here loving what loving your neighbor is but Paul in Romans 13:9 adds a little more to it and he gives more a little more detail for the commandments you shall not commit adultery you shall not murder you shall not steal you shall not bear false witness and not covet see he adds covet there and he leaves out on your father and mother that doesn’t mean you don’t honor your father and mother if there’s any other commandment there all summed up in this saying you shall love your neighbor as yourself so Paul is basically repeating what Jesus said and then he adds and says love does what no harm to a neighbor therefore love is the fulfillment of the law on the left you have a statement who is from a greek physician says first do no harm I bring this up because the world and theologians and philosophers they will all use very similar statements.

▶ 38:20 Do no harm love your neighbor love this you know they all will say the same thing but everybody is defining harm and love differently that is the problem but right here in this scripture Romans 13:9 and when Jesus spoke it he is defining what harming your neighbor is he is defining what loving your neighbor is. The ten commandments are the standard. For what love is and what harm is. It is not our own definition our own opinion or our own beliefs you cannot make up your own criteria.

▶ 39:13 For what love is for what is harmful and what is love. And since I want my name written in the lamb’s book of life how many want your names written in the lamb’s book of life amen I do. So what we follow the lamb’s criteria for what love is and what harm is and I say the lamb’s criteria because the lamb is who Jesus Christ and who said these things Jesus Christ Paul is simply repeating what Jesus said. So don’t let the world deceive you. The statements I brought up at the beginning the world is repackaging and re-saying trying to pass off love and harm in their own way but God has clearly defined it in the scriptures amen is that clear this morning and also let God be what true.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Romans 13:9-10 (NKJV)

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

— Romans 13:9-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 37:07 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Can we believe Jesus and reject Moses?

▶ Watch this part (40:17)

Short answer: No—Moses wrote about Him; harmful things pushed today are plain common sense.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 40:17 And every man a liar. We have a responsibility to just to to to to to decide if we’re going to accept God’s word as what truth. That is your decision. And also it is common sense and clear that these things that they are pushing on us today are harmful. If you have any way of you don’t need you know God’s word is is paramount and true but if you just look at the results you can see it’s harmful. John 5:42 I know you that you do not love have the love of God in you for if you believe Moses you would believe me for he wrote about me but if you do not believe his writings how will you believe my words and here Jesus is all red letters he’s speaking to who the Jews.

▶ 41:13 And saying if you believe in Christ you have to believe in Moses before he wrote about I’m sorry Jesus is saying you believe in Moses why don’t you believe in me he wrote about me and it goes the same way the other way we say we believe in Jesus. Why because he died on the cross for my sin because he forgave me but we don’t believe the Old Testament. You see that is just as important Moses was an example of Jesus Christ Moses wrote about Jesus and all throughout the New Testament Jesus is quoting the Old Testament. The laws were given by God. Proverbs 3:12 for whom the Lord loves he corrects just as a father the son in whom he delights Proverbs 29:17 says correct your son and he will give you rest he will give you delight to your soul God wants to delight in us so what does he do he corrects us and it says for whom the Lord loves he corrects this thinking that we can come to Jesus and we don’t have to turn and change our lives is completely absurd.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 5:46 (NKJV)

For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.

— John 5:46 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 41:13 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What is Jesus’ message?

▶ Watch this part (42:43)

Short answer: Repent—turn around; go and sin no more.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 42:43 God is going to correct us amen. Matthew 4:17 he says it himself Jesus Christ in red letters he began to preach and to say repent turn stop going the way you’re going you’re headed toward the kingdom of darkness turn around look it over there that’s better. For the kingdom of heaven is hand it’s near you it’s here. Stop going toward the kingdom of darkness turn around and come to my kingdom repentance means to change your mind to change your mind that changes your behavior right if you want to change your behavior you start in here amen. John 8:4 he said to the woman who was caught in adultery and we’re not going to get into that whole story but he said to her neither do I condemn you but go and sin no more so Jesus Christ is uh clearly state into this woman sin no more I am not going to condemn you now if you he also says to the to the to the guy that he healed uh of his lameness he said ghost him no more unless the worst thing come upon you meaning if you continue to sin you die in your sin you’re going to stand before me hold and I’m going to you accountable and I’m going to say depart from me you worker of iniquity.

Why did Jesus call the woman a dog?

▶ Watch this part (44:13)

Short answer: To test her; she responded humbly, acknowledged Him as Master, and her faith was great.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 44:13 Go and sin no more is the message. Matthew 15 Jesus said it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs. In this story this woman who was not a Jew she was not from Israel she was a Gentile she came to Jesus because she had heard of the great things he had done. And you got to remember Jesus saw her coming. For miles away right. Jesus can see her walking toward him Jesus can see what she’s thinking and hear what she’s thinking in her mind he knows what’s coming. And he says to her it.

▶ 45:07 Is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs he calls her a dog and a dog in the New Testament when they were talking about that talking about people who commit abominations and live an immoral life and just just completely disregard God’s word. And she replies and says yes but even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from the master’s table so first she acknowledged him as who master. And she accepted his judgment. He judged her said you’re done. And that’s offensive right. What are you going to do when God says to you hey you’re doing what’s wrong. And what God is pointing out here is no matter what he said to her she accepted the guilt.

▶ 46:09 And acknowledge Jesus Christ as master and responded humbly to the king and that is the point we’ve got to respond humbly to Jesus Christ no matter what he says or how he says it if it’s truth what let God be true and every man a liar how will we respond and she he says to her well and great is your faith you walked all this way I saw you I saw you walk every step. You came looking for me you uh. You bore that judgment that I said. Great is your faith amen. Matthew 21:12 Jesus went to the temple of God he drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple overturned tables of the money changers and he said to them my house shall be called a house of prayer but you have made it a den of thieves first Corinthians 3:16 says do you not know that you.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Matthew 15:26-28 (NKJV)

But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

Are we God’s holy temple?

▶ Watch this part (47:21)

Short answer: Yes—and like a 20-year-old software system with nightly deployments, He keeps changing us without shutting us down.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 47:21 Are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwells in you for the temple of God is holy which temple you are so when Jesus went into the temple and he cleansed the temple right he kicked everybody out because they were doing something you shouldn’t do in the temple it’s the same way in your heart and your mind and your spirit he wants to cleanse your heart he wants to cleanse your mind and put his spirit in you and God is asking this us this morning is. Your heart a den of thieves scriptures say in John 10 verse 10 the thief has not come to except to steal kill and destroy is Satan reigning in your heart Jesus Christ wants to come and cleanse your heart cleanse you from the inside.

▶ 48:19 For the temple of God is say it holy. And this is important. I want to talk about something real quick when I started my first job in i.t. We uh they were rolling out their new underwriting and billing and claim system. And when the first state went live a state you know you know calif not not california that was our big state but smaller states when the state went live every night after that we would have to deploy changes deploy defect fixes and bug fixes every night for a good like two weeks and they come up we need an emergency we need to open it every night we’d have to deploy changes. So after a few weeks it was every other night okay okay and then after more time went by it was once a week and then after that it was monthly and then a new state would go live and that was to repeat the whole process again right.

▶ 49:25 And then when we when all the states went live we had this be you know they had the same thing it was emergency deployment emergency deployment emergency deployment every night and then as time went by. Things spaced out and went from weekly to monthly but we would have to deploy defect fixes and changes all the time but as the application matured. And got more robust. It was fewer and far between and this is the same way it is with God when you start out you’ve got to go to God every day to get those defects and bug fixes fixed in your heart and in your mind. And while you are doing it you see the application was running the whole time.

▶ 50:21 You understand we didn’t shut it down see God he’s not going to get rid of you. You’re still running. Amen. So to you to him you’re what holy. You may need a deployment every night and changes in your life every night. Amen. But over time and this application is now 20 years old I’ve almost worked for there I almost worked there for now 17 years this application now 20 years old and we have hardly any maintenance on well you know I I don’t want to much less than we used to okay. And it’s the same way with people and God if you keep pursuing God and you keep allowing him to change you and you come to him every day and you come to him uh daily and also weekly and you come to God’s house weekly God does something else in the church that you can’t get at home you keep doing that maintenance God is going to help you grow God is going to help you transform and change into a new person.

▶ 51:37 And that’s what we need and it’s not that you go from being a horrible sinner to all of a now you’re holy no it takes time and it takes you coming to God to get those changes in your life daily weekly as much as you can if you’re gonna if you’re not gonna put God in you if allow you’re not going to his code to come in you and change you. You’re not going to get any change you’re not going to grow. Amen. Love is also patient in first Corinthians 13:4 love is patient. And that word is so important it implies that you’re waiting for something so God is what he is patient.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

— 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 47:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Does God accept us while growing?

▶ Watch this part (52:36)

Short answer: Yes—He finishes the good work, but corrects those He loves; be zealous and repent.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 52:36 So he is going to patiently work with you while he’s changing you and that means that you are accepted he’s not going to shut you down. Thank goodness amen he’s not going to delete you and get rid of you. He’s going to be patient. But does that mean we use it as an excuse to just be like okay well I’m not doing much not going to do much you’re not going to put anything into God no what is the song that we sing read your Bible and pray every day pray every day pray every day read your Bible pray every day and you’ll grow bro grow that’s exactly what you’ve got to do you’ve got to put God in you read your Bible pray every day and come to church so why go to a church where they’re looking for God so that God can come and meet with you speak with you and transform you at the end of the service we’re gonna have a time for us to to seek God to ask and pray that God would do something we got to utilize that time this is that time is for you.

▶ 53:51 To come to God and he changed to let God speak to you amen when you come into the service and we’re worshiping this time is for you. To praise your God you think God needs your praise he doesn’t need your praise he knows who he is whether you live or die he’s still going to be king on the throne amen. Praising God is for you. And yes he deserves it that’s for sure Luke 18 talking about the sea on the ground the ones that fell on good ground are those who having heard the word with a noble heart and good heart keep it and bear fruit with patience see we got to be patient too do we love if you love God you’re going to keep hanging in there keep being patient keep pursuing God even though you’re not growing like uh what what grows fast.

▶ 54:57 Popcorn yeah and you don’t want to be a weed right weeds aren’t valuable you want to be something that grows and is is fruitful amen. And God will accept you while you’re growing bearing fruit while you’re learning to keep his word. Philippians 1:6 he has begun a good work in you and will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ Proverbs 4:18 the path of the justice like the shining sun that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day it is a transformation process God started to work in you and he’s going to finish that good work in you you’ve got to stick with him keep putting him into you. You go I mentioned that code in at my work they develop and they write code right well God’s got code in the scriptures you’ve got to put that code into you and allow those things to keep keep working on your spirit and on your heart.

▶ 56:03 The way of the wicked is like darkness they do not know what makes them stumble. Revelation 3:19 as many as I love I rebuke and chasten don’t be afraid if God comes to you and is correcting you be zealous and repent you know if you just have an attitude that is you know not offended by a guy oh you want me to change I’ll do it. ▶ 56:59 They need to be asked the question do you have any eternal real estate you have all these eternal riches here on earth but do you have any riches in heaven. And sitting on the throne of Jesus that is a great spot amen. In my house there are many mansions I go to prepare a place for you do you want in preparing a place for you yeah I would do I want to go I want to have my address up there amen. But we have to overcome. And you overcome by putting Christ into you. You overcome by it says here what do we do we what. Open the door.

▶ 57:53 Let the king of glory come in open wide ye gates and be lifted up your doors and the king of glory shall come if you’re going to come to church if you’re going to go home and you’re not going to open your mouth you’re going to ignore Christ and not open the door for him to come in you’re shutting him out. And he’s not going to do anything in your life. If you come to church in the morning and you just sit down and you don’t open the door you’re missing out on some transformation. If there’s a seeking God time and you just sit on your your bottom and you just sit there and look around you’re missing out on opening the door for Jesus Christ to come in. Amen. If you don’t put God’s word in you you’re not opening the door.

▶ 58:45 It’s that simple. In this we in this in this is love that he loved us and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins Jesus loves us so God is asking us this morning will we accept first of all God’s standard of love and harm not the world standard not how the world defines love but how he defines love according to the ten commandments according to his word is love a lie no most certainly not who’s a liar man let God be what true. And every man alive in other words God is true amen. Will we accept God’s correction in our lives because God’s correction is love will we keep the word and bear fruit with patience.
