In God’s Hand - March 26, 2023: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Christ holds the seven stars in His right hand. Those in God’s hand do His will and seek His glory, like Joseph. Don’t live under darkness’s hand or attack God’s people; no one can snatch us from His hand unless we pull away. Christ is the essential ingredient—come humbly and repent.

Scripture in this part
John 1:12 (NKJV)
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
— John 1:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:10What is it to be in His hand?
Short answer: Following last week’s seven stars and seven churches: leaders, ministers and homes need to be in the hand of Jesus.
▶ 25:51 It’s good to be in God’s house this morning Mrs. Barnes shared the scripture not. Having fear. God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power of love and a sound mind amen. And we need that to accomplish this thing the things that God has for us. Oh it’s on the wrong. Okay. Can you pass those out for me thank you very much excellent. Again welcome we want to thank you for joining us. We’re going to talk about being in his hands this morning.
▶ 26:44 And going off of our lessons from last week in Revelations we talked about the mystery of the seven stars and we talked about the message to the seven churches. And more so going back to Revelations chapter 1 verse 20 the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand in the seven golden lampstands the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. And we want to recognize this morning that the angels were in heaven so if he’s uh the seven angels he’s not just talking to the angels he’s talking to the church leaders of those seven churches. And those stars those leaders are in his right hand.
▶ 27:38 It when if you want to become a minister if you want to be a leader in the church you need to be in the hands of Jesus if you want to be a leader of your home if you want to be over your children if you want to be a good husband father a good wife or mother you’ve got to be in the hands of Jesus Christ and we want to know what that means this morning you don’t want to be in the hands of a denomination or a church group or a group of friends you don’t want to be self-appointed you want to be in the hands of Christ Jesus. You’re not a minister you’re because you graduated from college in the ministry or from college to be a theologian you’re not a minister because you have a doctorate degree you’re a minister you’re a servant of God because you’re in his hand.
Scripture in this part
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
— 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:51Revelation 1:16 (NKJV)
He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
— Revelation 1:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:44What shows someone is in God’s hand?
Short answer: Like Joseph, they do the will of Him who sent them and seek His glory, not their own.
▶ 28:33 Amen so what does the Bible say about being in his hand in Genesis 39:22. We are going to understand part of it here with this example the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison whatever they did whatever they did there it was his doing so the keeper of the prison. Put Joseph in charge and it says put. The the prisoners in his hand. Under his care under his authority. And the scripture here is helping us understand. That. A part of being in God’s hand when someone is under authority they have to follow the authority so the prisoners were given in to Joseph’s hand and Joseph was over and had authority and cared for those people under him and so the question is this morning are we are we a leader are we following a leader that is under the authority and rulership of Jesus Christ I gotta mute you guys I’m getting an echo over here pardon me.
▶ 30:06 It’s good to have you guys on zoom good to have you online I’ll unmute you at the end here just give me a few minutes. And the proof. That someone is in God’s hand is that their character and behavior lines up with whose hand they’re in if somebody a leader is in God’s hand they will line up to the character of whose hand they are in they will follow that authority and that’s what the example is here Joseph was over the prisoners and the prisoners listened to him. Matthew chapter 26 64. Jesus said to him you will see the son of man sitting on at the right hand of the power and coming in the clouds of heaven so Jesus is talking about himself and that he’s sitting at the right hand of God amen and then if Jesus isn’t at the right hand who’s in his right hand.
▶ 31:07 We’re in his right hand amen. And Jesus said to them my food is to do the will of him who sent me to finish his work and so Christ hears our example he’s giving us an example he is following the authority of whose hand he is in amen. Jesus answered them and said in John chapter 7 16 my doctrine is not mine but his who sent me you see we can’t pull out of the scriptures a little piece here a little piece there and say oh this is God’s word you got to take the whole book you got to have a full understanding you can’t put in your own doctrine you can’t pull out the scriptures and twist it to your own doctrine like communists and socialists do it’s not right it’s not good.
▶ 32:03 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true. And so you want to follow a leader who is in God’s hand you want to follow Christ who is in whose hand he’s in the father’s hand he’s at the father’s right hand and just like Joseph was entrusted with the people in the prison God has entrusted Jesus with us with church leaders he is appointed Christ to be over the church if you don’t like Christ you don’t like God if you leave Christ you’re leaving God. You can leave his hand and we don’t want to do that. When you’re in God’s hand you don’t share your apparent opinion you share the doctrine of God right Jesus said my doctrine is not mine that’s what we should be saying my doctrine is not mine it’s God’s it’s God’s word it’s God’s word that will.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 39:22 (NKJV)
And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.
— Genesis 39:22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:33John 4:34 (NKJV)
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
— John 4:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:07John 7:18 (NKJV)
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
— John 7:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:03Whose hand do we live under?
Short answer: Not the hand of darkness—God delivered Israel and David from the lion, the bear and the Philistine.
▶ 33:12 Correct us. It’s not our words. It’s God’s word. In Exodus 1:13 the Egyptians made the Israel serve with rigor and made their lives bitter with hard bondage so here Israel was under the hand of the Egyptians and the Egyptians were. Uh enslaving them putting hard work on them it says they were had hard bondage slavery. In Exodus 18:10 when they came out when God bottom out with the ten plagues and his wonderful mighty works jethro uh Moses’s father-in-law said blessed be the Lord who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians out of the hand of pharaoh.
▶ 34:05 Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods we don’t want to live under the hand and authority of the kingdom of darkness we don’t want to be oppressed by the kingdom of darkness Christ he can pull you out with his beautiful wonderful hand. His hand is not shortened he’s got a strong hand it can reach in anywhere. The deepest depths the farthest distance if you’re on a rocket ship to mars he can reach you. First Samuel 17 44 the philistine said to David come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air the beast of the field so here again we have goliath he’s saying I’m gonna I’m gonna grab you you’re gonna be in my hand and I’m going to give your flesh to the birds of the air and David’s reply or David said.
▶ 35:10 The Lord will deliver me from the paw of the lion and the Paul the lair the the bear will deliver me from the hand of this philistine so we don’t want first of all we don’t want to be under and the authority of the enemy’s hand the kingdom of darkness and we don’t and Christ Jesus can deliver us from the hand of the enemy amen. So David here is depending on God to deliver him from the hand of the philistine. It’s important to note that David was anointed king he was in God’s hand and goliath was trying to harm what was in God’s hand you can’t mess with what’s in God’s hand if you do that you got to remember there’s another hand. That’s why we got two hands God’s got two hands he’s holding you in one hand what’s he gonna do with the other hand goliath see ya.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 1:13 (NKJV)
So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor.
— Exodus 1:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:121 Samuel 17:37 (NKJV)
Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”
— 1 Samuel 17:37 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:10Should we attack God’s people?
Short answer: No—Ahab and Saul failed to deal rightly with those God delivered into their hand.
▶ 36:11 He’s gonna use his other hand don’t start attacking God’s people you don’t want to get a backhand with the other hand. 1 Kings 20:42 he said to him thus says the Lord because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction so here ahab was given uh a a man named ben haydad and I’m just bringing this up because it’s an example of God delivering. Somebody into ahab’s hand and ahab did not do what he was supposed to do we have a responsibility in the church when God delivers people we have a responsibility. To take what God has given in our hand and be responsible for it to take care of what God has given us amen to take care of the people that come we’re responsible for that.
▶ 37:10 It’s important to note and if you remember Saul he would not punish Agag who God delivered into Saul’s hand. And so we have to take ownership and responsibility for what he has put in our hand he takes responsibility of what’s in his hand and we’ve got to take responsibility for what God has put in our hand as the church. And specifically there he’s talking to leaders first Samuel 26 11 the Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the lord’s anointed. And so David here is confirming I’m not gonna mess with who God has anointed God Saul is in God’s hand I’m not going to start attacking Saul I’m not going to hurt Saul if you remember David had two chances to kill Saul who was coming after him and David would not do it he stood right next to his head he had a spear in his hand and he told abhishai hey don’t mess with Saul that’s God’s anointed he’s in God’s hand God is responsible amen.
Scripture in this part
1 Kings 20:42 (NKJV)
Then he said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’ ”
— 1 Kings 20:42 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 36:11Can anyone snatch us from His hand?
Short answer: No one—but if you distance yourself and deny Him, you are leaving His hand.
▶ 38:26 And we’ve got to remember that we should not be attacking God’s people God’s anointed it’s not right. John 10:28 I give him eternal life they shall never perish neither shall any snatch them out of my hand he’s talking about the disciples he’s talking about you. How many you know it’s important to be in God’s hand you don’t want Satan we don’t want the world we don’t want the kingdom of darkness demons there’s nothing that can snatch you from God’s hand. Except what. You walk right out of his hand. You can walk right out of his hand you have the freedom and choice to reject Jesus Christ there’s a lot of songs that’ll say oh God’s unconditional and God he just loves me and anything to say well what if you leave completely reject him and leave him.
▶ 39:25 And you distance yourself from Christ you think deny him what do you is going to happen you’re leaving his hand. But remember when you stay with God as mrs thompson has said many times if you stick with Jesus what does she say you’ll have a happy life. Doesn’t mean you’re not going to go through trouble. Second Kings 3 5 the hand of the Lord came upon Elisha. And this is a time when moab was coming to attack the land and they needed a solution they needed a miracle and jehoshaphat said hey we need to get a a singer in here where’s miss woods at get her up here playing the guitar and miss woods got up there played the guitar and Elisha got a word from God and he said I know what to do I have a solution.
Scripture in this part
John 10:28-29 (NKJV)
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
— John 10:28-29 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 38:26What happens when the hand of the Lord is with us?
Short answer: Solutions come and a great number believe, as in Antioch.
▶ 40:27 And how many know we need that hand of the Lord and these solutions come and you just say what what do you want me to do. Make this valley full of ditches first of all I gotta go get a shovel I gotta work I gotta dig a ditch and this doesn’t even make sense God. Sometimes. It doesn’t matter if it makes sense. We have to respond to Christ. We have to respond to the hand of the Lord first Kings 18 46 the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah he girded up his loins and he ran ahead of ahab so he had super speed God gave him super speed from God’s hand. Because he was speaking the truth even when it wasn’t popular he stuck with Christ Acts 11:20.
▶ 41:22 Some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene when they had come to Antioch they were preaching the Lord Jesus and the hand of the Lord was with them and a great number believed and turned to the Lord so here we have some men we don’t know their names we don’t know who they are we just know where they’re from hey you know that guy is from lake elsinore oh you know that girl if they’re from uh uh you know hemet you know that person that they were preaching God and God came and people turn into the Lord I don’t know who their name I’d never heard them before but the hand of the Lord was with them and God turned people unto himself it doesn’t matter if you have a name. God’s hand can be with you and if God’s hand is with you he can turn people to himself.
▶ 42:14 When you’re preaching this the word the truth amen. You may never heard of these preachers but they’re out there and the hand of the Lord is with them and we need to be like that not seeking our own glory like it said earlier seeking the glory of God. Romans chapter 10 14. How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard how shall they hear without a preacher who is sent no man takes his honor to himself but he who is called by God just as Aaron was so to sum all that up about being in the hand of God leaders preachers all those all of us can be all of us can and share the scriptures and share God’s word but we’ve got to be sent.
Scripture in this part
2 Kings 3:16 (NKJV)
And he said, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’
— 2 Kings 3:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 40:27Acts 11:20-21 (NKJV)
But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.
— Acts 11:20-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 41:22Who takes the honor to himself?
Short answer: No one—Aaron was called by God; Jesus gave power over demons.
▶ 43:09 No one takes the honor to himself Aaron was specifically called Aaron had flaws. But he was called by God him and his children to be priests in the temple. When he called the 12 disciples to him he gave him power over unclean spirits to cast them out and heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of diseases God Jesus called the disciples to himself and he’s calling you too. How many know we’re all called to what be his disciples. We’re all called. Will we respond. These are the disciples were rejected they were persecuted they were opposed and you’re not going to be able to handle all of that if you’re not in his hand.
▶ 44:10 God gave them power. Over demons and over Satan how many know we need power over now I mean you know we need that not just the people going out we need that in our daily lives a lot of darkness is is overcoming people in our world today and we need Christ. We need to be disciples. That have power over the kingdom of darkness Revelations 2:1 these things says he who holds the seven stars in his right hand so going back to that scripture he’s got the seven stars in his right hand but also he says who walks in the midst of the seven golden landstands Jesus Christ is in our midst Matthew 18:20 where two or three are gathered together in my name there I am in their midst so here this morning today Christ is in our midst we are powerful just being here you may not understand everything you may not understand God’s word or you may be new to God’s word you may not have it in you but because you are here Christ is here.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 5:4 (NKJV)
And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.
— Hebrews 5:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 43:09Is Christ accessible?
Short answer: Yes—the kingdom is at hand, but come humbly like the blind man; He is the author and finisher.
▶ 45:29 Christ is here and he is accessible the Bible says that the kingdom of God is at hand God is near you but we have to respond when you come this morning you’ve got to respond you’ve got to humble yourself. Amen. When people are seeking Jesus they humbled themselves they left where they were at they came before Christ they they they they bowed before him they worshiped him they honored him. They begged him no one came up to Jesus and was uh you know disrespectful. Amen. Zacchaeus. Was respectful the one with the issue of of blood was respectful she did everything she could to get to Jesus Christ and she was humble before Jesus the lepers the one that was one that said thank you he was respectful.
▶ 46:34 The blind man crying out to God he was crying out he was humbling himself amen. We’ve got to come to Christ with a humble attitude and his way not our own way. Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ and so it’s important to be reminded here that when God is in our midst he can continue that good work when you go home and you seek God he is in your midst he’s going to keep up that good work that he began in you when you seek him in the word it’s all part of the package God is going to use that to complete the good work he began in you Hebrews chapter 12 verse 12 looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy set before us endured the cross and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God again it confirms Jesus is there at the right hand of the throne of God and he is working on us he’s interceding for us as we were reminded last week he’s there before the throne he’s praying for you and for me he’s praying that our faith would not fail like he prayed for Peter amen.
▶ 48:03 He’s the author and the finisher he’s looking at you he’s looking at your situation he he wants to finish what he started. Him being in our midst is not his approval. Him being in our midst is not him saying oh you don’t have to change anything no him bringing our midst is hey I’m here to help you move up and grow. How many you know we need to grow Jesus Christ has a goal and objective for every one of us for his church. He wants to finish that good work he began in you. Fit to finish it means that there is a a goal to reach. He wants to transform you into somebody who is a light to the world he wants to give you his nature his character he wants to improve and improve and improve your life your character your mouth.
▶ 49:10 Amen. Amen. And he’s standing there this is all going back to that scripture he’s standing there he has the stars in his right hand he’s in the midst of the seven lamps and that’s us he is completing and finishing and working on us. Amen. Last week for dinner I made chicken teriyaki chicken for my kids. Teriyaki chicken and rice. And when you want to make it I’m sure you got I have a simple recipe it’s nothing complicated okay you get vinegar you get some ginger garlic soy sauce water honey and a little bit of sugar you put it in a bowl and uh you get some flour.
Scripture in this part
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
— Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 48:03What is the essential ingredient?
Short answer: Christ—don’t come to church for the peripherals; repent and be converted.
▶ 50:11 And you start cooking. But what’s missing. Chicken. That’s right. Can you imagine if I just got a little bit of flour and I put all this stuff together what would I have I’d have maybe that. And then I hand that to my kids and I say okay it’s dinner time they look like dad. Where is the chicken. And you see it’s important Jesus Christ is that essential ingredient. You can’t just have the sauce or the peripheral things the things that you you add the chicken is the main thing. You leave that out you’re missing the real the protein the thing that gives you energy and strength.
▶ 51:09 And it’s possible that we’re doing that today where we come to church and we’re not looking for Christ we’re looking for the peripherals. When you come to church when we come to church we’re gathered here to meet with to touch to hear what Jesus Christ has to say to us we want him to do his work in us. Whatever stage you are at whatever growth level at you’re at today Christ wants to move you forward. When we come into God’s house do we focus on him or are we focused on all the other things. Our friends.
▶ 52:01 Whatever it may be do we come for the food. Or do we come for the essential ingredient for our growth and that is Christ Jesus. I encourage you this morning we need to come for Christ Acts 3:19 says repent therefore as the worship team comes we’re going to sing a song called be it unto me according to thy word my heart responds to thee and this morning we want to respond we want to ask Christ to come we want to meet with him he is the key ingredient here we want him in our midst he’s already here but we want him to speak to us remember he’s here but him being here is not not the approval what you need is for him to help grow your spirit in your heart if you don’t have a heart after God if you don’t have a new heart if you don’t have his spirit in you you need to pray and ask for those things you need to grow.
▶ 53:05 Acts 3:19 repent therefore and be converted you know we need to repent. We’ve got areas we need to print every week you know getting before ready for church I’m I’m I’m just. I’m saying God I’ve messed up. And we’ve got to turn we gotta keep turning repent therefore be converted. Who got to come to God and say God I messed up in this area and and and leave that turn. That your sins may be blotted out so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord we need his refreshing and we need his presence this morning. As I said earlier zacchaeus.
▶ 53:57 The woman with the issue of blood they came out to the presence of God they came out and God changed them. Christ. Does the changing Revelations chapter 2 verse 1 again it says that he is holding the seven stars in his right hand and walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands and God is asking us this morning are we in his hand are we under his authority. Are we under his protection. Have we left his hand. Are we following his teaching and his doctrine are we following our own doctrine. Are you trying to hurt people that are in God’s hand.
Scripture in this part
Acts 3:19 (NKJV)
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
— Acts 3:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 53:05How does the service close?
Short answer: “Be it unto me according to Thy word,” prayer for the hand of the Lord and courage.
▶ 54:50 Is the hand of the Lord with you. And lastly are you pulling away from God’s hand this morning as a prayer this morning we’re going to sing and we’re going to surrender unto Christ be it unto me according to your word we want to follow his word we want to respond this morning. Ask that we would be that he would come and hold us in his hand ask that the one of the Lord but come upon us this morning that he would work that good work in us he’s the finisher of our faith the author and finisher that you come and keep growing us this morning.
