Identifying an Apostle: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
In session one on ministry gifts, Pastor David G. Kincer explains that apostles are a job description set by God, not a title. He shows how Jesus made the twelve, gave them power and authority, and sent them without pay; how even they had flaws until three possessions changed them—opened understanding, the Holy Ghost, and love; and the biblical signs of an apostle.
Are ministry offices titles?
Short answer: He says the Bible has no titles, only job descriptions; many called pastors or evangelists aren’t. 1 Corinthians 12:28: God sets people in the church—no university can do it. When you fulfill God’s will you are as great as any apostle. The ranking is apostles first, then prophets who never miss, then teachers.
▶ 0:00 So this morning we’re going to in our session one we’re going to be looking at how to identify an apostle all right you need to know these things people can’t just put titles on them and that be the truth uh there is no titles in the Bible they are job descriptions. Okay there’s a big difference and we got a lot of pastors in America that are not pastors we’ve got a lot of evangelists that are not evangelists. Because we just tag everything. And so we need to be able to identify. Remember last week we showed you in first Corinthians 12:28 that God set. Some in the church God does this you can’t go to Bible college and be set in in a these positions you can’t go to seminary, Oral Roberts can’t do a thing for you except give you some instruction.
▶ 0:59 All right. Liberty University can’t do a thing for you when it comes to this only God can. Now there’s nothing wrong with learning the Bible but folks we got to understand that God decides to put you in to the body of Christ as he sees fit and you may want to be something else that you’re never going to be it you got to accept who you are and when you do you’re as great as any apostle great as any prophet because you’re being what God placed you in the body of Christ to be it’s that simple he has no respecter of persons when you fulfill his will for your life your numero uno. In a body of Christ and you can be comfortable with that he placed in first in rank this is in rank this is what’s the most important he said first the top the top office in the church is the apostle.
▶ 2:08 The second top office in the church is prophets and this is not prophesying with edification exhortation and comfort it is not prophesying to place people into the body of Christ confirming that it is the office of a prophet that actually says what God is going to do when he’s going to do it how he’s going to do it and it happens. See the office of a prophet never misses never. Thirdly teachers okay now we’re gonna hit these three this morning or mainly one of them and then he says or all apostles or all prophets are all teachers no. Why because God places in and he doesn’t place everybody in the church isn’t full of apostles. The church isn’t full of prophets the church isn’t full of teachers you don’t need everybody doing these things you only need a few but the church does need a lot of helpers and a lot of government a lot of administrator to get things done.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.
— 1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:40Did Jesus promise to send apostles and prophets?
Short answer: Matthew 23:34 and Luke 11:49: I will send apostles, prophets, wise men and scribes. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 foretold a falling away, which he places in the corrupt Dark Ages. Acts 3:20–21: heaven receives Christ until the restoration of all things, which began with Martin Luther and is not finished—the apostle is still to be restored.
▶ 3:17 Are you with me church needs a lot of prayers a lot of worshipers. Now I want to remind you. That in Matthew 23:34 and Luke 11:49 you combine those scriptures you get the full message of what Christ is saying and Christ says look I’m going to send unto you. I’m going to send unto you apostles prophets wise men and scribes teachers scribes were the teachers of the law back then. We find God did this in the early church you find the apostles you find the prophets you find the teachers you find the wise people in the early church. Okay. But the Bible also says in second Thessalonians 2 3 that the day of the Lord will not come except there is a falling away first.
▶ 4:18 Okay we lost all of these guys the following way happened during the dark ages the catholic church was the prominent church and they were so corrupt. Homosexuality sexual immorality people paying to get their sins forget all kinds of atrocities were going on there was no apostle there was no prophet there was no teacher there was a bunch of empty-headed priests teaching things that were not true. And the people who did not go through the scriptures to find out for themselves believe this nonsense. It was a very corrupt time so Christ knew ahead of time. That the church was going to fall away just like he knew when he brought Israel out of Egypt he said you’re going to disobey me and I’m going to have to put you in captivity God knew because he knew their heart.
▶ 5:13 That’s why he said in Deuteronomy oh that there was a heart in them to hear my voice and keep my commandments oh that there was a heart in them. And so God who knows all things knew there would be a falling away. Acts 3:20 he may send Jesus Christ. God may send Jesus Christ whom the heavens must receive until the times of restoration Christ is going to remain in the heavens where he ascended until the restoration the restoring. Of all things including the apostle prophet and teachers. Does that make sense to you. It should make sense because it’s Bible and if you think God’s going to come back with a weak narrow-minded unmature church you got another thing our God is bigger than that he is going to fulfill every prophecy every scripture and they haven’t been fulfilled yet.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 23:34 (NKJV)
Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
— Matthew 23:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:272 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV)
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
— 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:11Acts 3:20-21 (NKJV)
and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.
— Acts 3:20-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:31Deuteronomy 5:29 (NKJV)
Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
— Deuteronomy 5:29 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How did Jesus make the first apostles?
Short answer: Matthew 10, Mark 3:14 and Luke 9:1: Jesus made twelve—the same word as “I will make you fishers of men”—and called them to be with him first. You can’t get that from Bible college; he shapes you as you spend time with him and his church.
▶ 6:25 All these things that’s God spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets since the world began and so I’m telling you all this because God we are in the seasons of restoration it says times of restoration seasons of restoration he started with Martin Luther and I submit to your church he’s not finished yet there’s more seasons of restoration coming and one of them is this apostle first mention of apostles where again we’re going to combine verses because it gives us the full picture. Matthew 10:5 Mark 3:14 and Luke 9:1. Okay the first mention of apostles. Jesus. Made 12 apostles. Some of your translations will say ordained someone will say placed in ah.
▶ 7:19 And ordain is fine placed in is fine but this is the same word that he used when he says follow me and I will make you fishers of men I’ll fashion you I’m going to change you from being a fisher of fish to a fisher of men. So he made he shaped these 12 people to be apostles. All right and he called them to be with him folks you’re never going to do anything until you give in to the calling of Christ to be with him. Your prayer time is with him your worship time is with him. Amen. We need to spend time with him if he’s going to make us in anything even a helper in the church we need to be first with him.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:5 (NKJV)
These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.
— Matthew 10:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:58Mark 3:14 (NKJV)
Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach,
— Mark 3:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:00Luke 9:1 (NKJV)
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
— Luke 9:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:02What is the difference between power and authority?
Short answer: He gave them power—supernatural ability—and authority. A police officer at a dark intersection has no supernatural power to stop your car, but you stop because he has the backing of the government. He says many missionaries are sent without being made, only making indigenous people American.
▶ 8:17 Then he can fashion us into something. You can’t get this from a Bible college. And I’m not knocking Bible colleges I’m just telling you their their graduate diploma does not make you anything only God can do it and he does it through you spending time with him and his church when you come together you’re coming because he is in the midst of the assembling you’re spending time with him and then he can make you what he wants you to be no pastor can do that no school can do that only God can do that. Hallelujah then he gave them. He gave them two tremendous possessions. Power which means supernatural ability things human cannot do humans can’t do these things and the second one was authority it’s also used in the Bible as power but it’s the power authority and the difference is this.
▶ 9:27 The lights can go out in L.A. electricity can go off there is no street lights to keep people from you know running into each other a police officer can get out there in the middle of that intersection with his uniform on and he raises that hand and we stop. Now he doesn’t have supernatural power. My car I could run him over. My car I could go right around him and go do what I want but I know that police officer is going to call his buddies and they’re going to pick me up down the road and they’re going to take care of me and if I run him over I’m going to have every policeman in L.A. looking for me to get rid of me and so that authority is why I stop he doesn’t have the supernatural power to make me stop.
▶ 10:23 But he has the authority and he has the backing of all the california government. So I stopped. You got it. And he gave both of them he gave these guys both powers and then he sent them see we’re sending people out to the missions I’ve been all over the world preaching the gospel and we’ve sent people out to the mission field that had not been made they had not spent time with Jesus and Jesus hadn’t gave nothing. And we gloat over here in America about how we got missionaries over there amen and you go over there and it is a mess most of them are just trying to make Americans out of the uh indigenous people to the nation and calling that christianity because you get clothes on them because now they’re wearing pants and the women are wearing a bra and a blouse now instead of running around half naked now you call that Christian that’s not christianity.
Scripture in this part
Luke 9:1 (NKJV)
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
— Luke 9:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Who were the twelve first sent to?
Short answer: Not to Gentiles or Samaritans—who feared God but served their own gods—but to the lost sheep of Israel: believers without relationship with God. John 17:3: eternal life is knowing God and Jesus Christ. The sick need a physician; preach the kingdom, heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons.
▶ 11:23 And he said to them don’t go to the Gentiles non-Jewish people non-believers. Or the Samaritans the Samaritans. Were thousands of people that the king of Assyria had taken from other nations and brought to the northern kingdom Israel and they took the Israelites and took them to that kingdom and so these Samaritans the capital was Samaria so they called them Samaritans the capital of the northern kingdom and so these people that were brought in by Assyria because when they disobeyed God God sent lions and things to hey you’re messing with the wrong God here so. What does the Bible say about the Samaritan they feared God but serve their own gods.
▶ 12:19 He said don’t go to these people yet that fear me but they have their own God they have their own way of doing things they got their own doctrine don’t go to them yet he said you go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and folks there’s a lot of people in the American churches that need a minister going to them and preaching the gospel of the kingdom. They are believers but they’ve lost eternal life they’ve lost a relationship with God eternal life is not only living forever with Jesus John 17:3 says this is eternal life that they might know God and his son Jesus Christ they might know have a relationship possess him and experience with him so they don’t have an experience they don’t have eternal life and he says I want you to go to the people who believe.
▶ 13:12 But they’re not in relationship with me and they’re not going to heaven. Now in America you say that oh God that’s harsh that’s that’s mean that’s that’s not politically correct yeah. Laughs. It’s the truth the lost sheep of the house of Israel now Jesus said. The sick need a physician not the healthy when he was talking about the harvest you see you don’t need to go to good born-again Christians uh you know to try to save them and all that you just they just need to grow up you really need to work on those who think they’re saved and they’re not. Without telling them you you just think you’re saved and you’re not they’re sick they need medicines you give them the medicine the medicine will do the job the medicine is the word of God absolutely now he tells them preach the kingdom of heaven is at hand it is here the kingdom of God the kingdom of heaven is the same thing kingdom is an area ruled over by king and the king is Jesus Christ hallelujah it’s here it’s happening what God pointed to before the world was ever created now it is here.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:5-8 (NKJV)
These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
— Matthew 10:5-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:30 (quoted; reference not named in the message)2 Kings 17:33 (NKJV)
They feared the LORD, yet served their own gods—according to the rituals of the nations from among whom they were carried away.
— 2 Kings 17:33 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:14 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 17:3 (NKJV)
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
— John 17:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:52What did “freely you received, freely give” mean for them?
Short answer: Without pay, no money, no extra clothes—the worker is worthy of his food. Provision comes after obeying, through those who receive them. 1 Corinthians 9:16–18: woe is me if I preach not the gospel; Paul preached without charge so as not to abuse his authority. He says no one today calling themselves an apostle lines up with the twelve.
▶ 14:35 Four thousand years later it is here. Heal the sick cleanse the lepers raise the dead and cast out demon now how many of you know folks if this was going on in America right now things would be different. Absolutely they would be if one of these presidential candidates could do this stuff he’d be president just like that. They wouldn’t be fighting and arguing and bragging and people would go wow that’s who we need. I mean this is a powerful package to go preach the kingdom of God with powerful. Then he says this freely you receive freely give what is he saying without pay.
▶ 15:29 You’re getting what I gave you and without pay you’re going to give what I gave you is that happening in America today. Oh no. Oh nothing’s too good for the man of God faith camps pentecostal camps charismatic camps catholic camps. While the widow gives her social security check they drive the rolls royces. But he’s asking them without pay to give this out now we know at least Peter had a family and he had a home. He had responsibilities. Now you know that’s going to make you think twice God comes to Dave Kincer I got two kids in college and and an expensive wife to support.
▶ 16:22 But here you are he comes to you today and he says listen I want you to go I’m not giving you any money I’m not allowing you to take any money. Take no money in your wallet no extra clothes in your knapsack. Just what you got on today that’s all you go with a worker is worthy of his food what’s the word food not wages food. What’s Christ only promising them food. And shelter he later says you know they invite you into their house and all that. And so how many you know that would knock out most ministers in America immediately. Am I right oh yeah they’re gone well you could not. Power no power this is crazy and we give them 50 excuses now I got a wife I got a kid you know I got a house I got mortgage to pay I got a car.
▶ 17:25 How many you know a worker in the secular world is paid after he does his job correctly yeah. Jesus is only trying to show them that if they go and do what he said and they do it the way he said and lets God move through them that the provisions will be there. Okay not before. See in America you said I’ve got to the missionary they raised thirty thousand dollars so they can get over there and buy a car and have a nice house and and and china fine china and fine crystal and everything else but Jesus sent them out with nothing but gave them authority to cast out demons healed the sick preach the gospel. First Corinthians 9:16. Woe is me if I preach not the gospel.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:8-10 (NKJV)
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.
— Matthew 10:8-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:24 (quoted; reference not named in the message)1 Corinthians 9:16-18 (NKJV)
For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.
— 1 Corinthians 9:16-18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:13Does God working through someone prove they are holy?
Short answer: They went out preaching and healing everywhere—including Judas, the thief. Because God does something through an impure vessel doesn’t make it pure. In Mark 6:30 they reported back to Jesus—the safest thing to do—with no financial complaints.
▶ 18:18 Verse 18. Without charge I preached the gospel that I abuse not my authority in the gospel his position of authority how many know there’s a lot of American ministers that are abusing their position manipulating the congregation to do and to give as they brainwash him into doing. It’s the truth folks it’s just the truth if you don’t know it you haven’t been around. Many say they are apostles today but none of them none of them overseas are here line up to Jesus’s twelve apostles. They departed and went through the towns preaching the gospel and healing the sick everywhere including Judas.
▶ 19:11 Traitor the thief the crook yeah Jesus had to pick one he could have picked a number of them than his generation to be the betrayer they’re always there he picked this one but he sent them out and Judas was. Healing the lepers. Healing the sick resurrecting the dead and because God does something through an impure vessel we think they are pure. Hallelujah. They get up and preach a sermon and people get saved they really get saved wow that guy is really holy he may not be holy at all he may not even be called it may be just God doing what he said he would do.
Scripture in this part
Luke 9:6 (NKJV)
So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
— Luke 9:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:06 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Mark 6:30 (NKJV)
Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.
— Mark 6:30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:09Do we need miracles or marketing to draw crowds?
Short answer: John the Baptist drew crowds without miracles—the word is just as powerful. When God moves, people come because of what they hear and experience, as they came endlessly to Jesus (Mark 6:31). Luke 22:35: sent without purse, they lacked nothing—people, especially women, provided.
▶ 20:10 Are you there. And I’ve seen a lot of this especially overseas it’s really bad. Mark 6:30 we find they came back and reported to Jesus how many know that’s the safest thing to do. If things are going on and you got a great testimony I mean oh you need to get before God and say hey Jesus man I went out and he has the ability to keep you humble they told him all that they had done and taught and they gave him no financial complaints. They were fed they were housed and their one set of clothes were washed while they were sleeping. Are you there they had no financial complaints. Now remember John the baptist had the same effect drawing the crowds without miracles so don’t give me this stuff well that’s what we did in America that’s what I heard back there 30 40 years ago well if we had miracles [unclear] people could say John the baptist did it without any miracle any healings or anything else the same crowds came and the same crowds got saved can I hear an amen the word is still just as powerful as what the miracles the healings.
▶ 21:30 Hallelujah. And he said come into a desert place and rest for a while for many were coming and going and they had no leisure even to eat you see there is no end of people needing this product of the gospel to the kingdom the cleansing of lepers the healing of the sick the raising of the dead see there is no end there remember these people you know they went back home they’re healed and they spread it around and their relatives are you know 50 miles away and man they get over there and tell their relatives and things start moving eastward and things start moving toward the the uh mediterranean coast to where the city of Tyre came down and the city of Sidon on the coast came down they want to hear this message they wanted their sons and daughters healed they wanted their lepers cleansed they wanted those possessed with demons cast out there was an endless crowd. Right now we have to market to get people to come to church.
▶ 22:29 You gotta advertise it you got to bring in you know some famous guy you know some famous athlete or some famous person to get the community to come and hear but let me tell you when God moves they will come because of what they hear and because of what the experience being done. Amen. Luke 22:35 when I sent you without money bag knapsack extra clothes. Without sandals did you lack anything they said what. What did they say nothing they lack nothing why because the laborer. The people fed them the people housed them they washed their clothes they took care of them that’s what they could do in appreciation.
Scripture in this part
Mark 6:31 (NKJV)
And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
— Mark 6:31 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:34 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Luke 22:35 (NKJV)
And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” So they said, “Nothing.”
— Luke 22:35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:57What does he draw from “buy a sword”?
Short answer: Luke 22:36: if you have no sword, buy one. He says the right to protect yourself from evil people is in scripture and the Constitution, contrasts capitalism with socialism and communism from his visit to China, and urges believers to vote biblically and wisely.
▶ 23:24 For what was done in their life wouldn’t that be wonderful that we don’t have to sell trinkets on tv and bibles and some cloth that’s anointed by the great evangelists all these gimmicks. Wouldn’t it be nice when God moves and people just respond. And it didn’t cost them a lot of money all it cost them was a little extra food and a bed for the guy to sleep in and and the woman the woman is the one that did this by the way uh the women took care of Jesus with food clothing and all that the women say women yeah. Thank God for women. They said nothing now he who has a money bag or knapsack let him take it and if you don’t have a sword go buy it.
▶ 24:20 The second amendment. Is in the Bible all right you got to protect yourself there are evil people out there and you have the right to protect yourself in scripture. And under our constitution. And when evil rises you need something to protect yourself. I want to be [unclear] capitalism folks capitalism a free enterprise is so important. Then and the battle’s going on right now between capitalism and socialism which leads to communism communism owns everything and when we were in china these guys said well you don’t see communism anywhere look around you I said sir and this was a Yale graduate wasn’t it a yale graduate supposed to have been filled with the Holy Ghost and I asked him how do you know you got filled with well I fell back in my seat.
▶ 25:19 You remember that and I’m going oh man I fell back in my seat not back in my seat that’s that’s nothing. And no sign of anything but I didn’t say that I listened to the guy and I simply said sir can you get on the radio and preach the gospel no. I said can you own property. In china he says well yeah we got building here and all that I said who owns the property. He said china I said when you’re 75-year lease is up they own your building. They’re going to let you move that building and if they don’t deem your service fit for china anymore they’re going to give it to someone else because it’s there to give it’s not yours to keep you can’t pass it on to your sons and daughters at all I said you’re telling me that communism is gone I said sir how many people in china are communists he didn’t even know I said seven percent that’s about 80 90 000.
▶ 26:25 Maybe I mean 80 90 million maybe 100 million now. Do you know that the Christians have passed up. The communists in china for the majority. There’s almost 200 million Christians in china and there’s only 90 to 100 million communists and the communists are worried about it they’re concerned about it. Okay anyway just giving you good information I hope you appreciate it hallelujah. And what are the words I’m saying when you vote vote intelligently and vote biblically that’s what I’m not telling you what to believe in all that and I don’t care if you’re democrat or not but you better be voting biblically and intelligently and wisely can I hear an amen yes.
Scripture in this part
Luke 22:36 (NKJV)
Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.
— Luke 22:36 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Did the apostles have flaws?
Short answer: Yes—so don’t give up on yourself. They asked “increase our faith”; called the women’s report of the empty tomb idle tales; Peter denied Christ three times with profanity; all forsook him and fled; Peter rebuked Jesus about the cross; they misunderstood the leaven; and they forbade others casting out devils (Luke 9:49).
▶ 27:20 Yet these mighty apostles who are raised and dead cleansing the lepers healing the sick and casting out devils they lack faith and loyalty Luke 7:5 the apostle said unto the Lord increase our faith my gosh they’ve been our preaching the gospel healing the sick raising the dead people getting saved get people baptized I mean he’s a Lord increase our faith. And in America we think faith is the main thing and faith is the core the foundational. Stone of the Bible and why am I showing you this that even these men who are called and made had some flaws so that you don’t give up on yourself because you got some flaws amen. Mary Magdalene came and other women who just left the tomb and saw the tomb was empty and and mary had had touched the feet of Jesus and and called him master and they came back and told this to apostles these men who were raised in the stead and healing the sick and casting out demons and cleansing the leper and preaching the gospel of the kingdom.
▶ 28:35 It seemed as idle tales to them what are you women talking about. You notice it’s women at the grave again. It gets kind of embarrassing you know. Now I can’t use the excuse that the men were out plowing fields now because they could have went to the grave early before they went to work or after they got off work they’re just a bunch of not heads these men. So they come back to these 12 great apostles oh yeah man hallelujah they’re great at talking. And they believe them not they didn’t have the faith to believe what Jesus had told them that he was going to die he told him plainly I’m going to die and I’m going to rise again on the third day and they didn’t have enough cranial brains to assimilate it the women did.
▶ 29:37 They went to anoint him. They went to take care of him but Peter ran to this grave to see if these things were true and it was empty. Peter in John 18:25 denied knowing Christ three times they asked him do you know Jesus nope no never heard a guy now this is a guy healing sick raised in the dead casting out demons cleansing lepers preaching the gospel king nope never heard of the God don’t know anything about this Jesus three times he denied him and then the last time he used profanity. I don’t know the effener I don’t know the essen or I don’t know that whatever. You know Christians today use profanity. They think because the secular world talks that way that we can talk that way.
▶ 30:34 Matthew 26:56 all were offended and forsook him and fled they were offended. Oh. It amazes me how many Christians get offended at the slightest little thing that goes wrong. The Bible says blessed are they that love your word. Nothing shall offend them. Mark 8:32 Peter rebuked Jesus for saying he was going to die on the cross Jesus gets his apostle again he said you know it’s coming a time we’re going to die on the cross I’m going to be raised the third day and uh you know dying for the sins of the world and Peter says no you ain’t dying on the cross Peter’s telling God what to do Jesus is God.
▶ 31:29 And Peter has the audacity to say no you ain’t going to die on the cross you ain’t going to do this. And Jesus said [unclear] why he’s opposing the plan of God how many Christians do you know that try to tell God how to run his affairs. Yeah you’re one of them. That’s why you didn’t raise your hand. You went up you want to tell God how it should be and how would I know I tried it for the first couple of years I was a young Christian I tried to tell him how to run this thing and you know how he should have handled job and still the way he did and and boy I tell you I’d let him have it and he slowly opened my eyes and showed me how dumb I was hallelujah. Matthew 16:6 they were slow to understand Jesus said beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the scribes they go duh is he talking about because we didn’t bring any food with us uh you know what.
▶ 32:33 What’s he talking about uh duh you know we twist the scriptures we’ll go this is what he’s saying he’s saying we didn’t bring any food with us. You know how many Christians I meet that take the scriptures and come up with some idiotic interpretation and I’m looking I’m like what. See they were slow to understand. They didn’t think he was going to die on the cross they rebuked him they didn’t understand the doctrine is important the doctrine the doctrine is important what doctrine you listen to is important because the doctrine will shape your behavior. Doctrine is not innocent and they didn’t understand. And Jesus said said oh I use slow because Jesus said oh you are slow to understand he he said it several times oh you guys you.
▶ 33:26 And he forbade those that followed not with them they went out and mar on Luke 9:49 and they came across some people that were preaching the gospel healing the sick raised in the dead casting out demons and boy they come up to him and say uri stop this. You’re not with the twelve you weren’t with Jesus at the beginning. That’s us today you catholics stop you’ve have to stop you charismatic stop you pentecostal stop you [unclear] stop you’re not of our group you guys stop we’ve got the message. Are you out there. See we may have a disagreements with the churches but I am not in a battle with denominations and churches I am in a battle with principalities and powers of darkness you got that I may disagree with the catholics but I am not in a war with the catholics.
▶ 34:30 I may disagree with the Baptists I’m not at war with them I’m at war with sin and the principalities and powers that. Draw people into it in that Bible. And see these guys they show a lot of immaturity. Um. Okay three life-changing possessions all right and they will change your life too these guys that were so wishy-washy something changed them. Okay they could do things in God you may be a singer and everybody just loves how you sing but you may have some problems you may be a musician everybody just loves the way you play but you may have some problems some flaws you may be a speaker with excellent skills you’re just born with speaking skills and people just think oh how wonderful he speaks and the message and so inspiring and you may have some flaws.

— Mark 8:32 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:08Matthew 16:6 (NKJV)
Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
— Matthew 16:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 32:17What three possessions changed the apostles?
Short answer: Understanding of the scriptures opened by Jesus (Luke 24:45); the Holy Ghost, speaking as the Spirit gave utterance (Acts 2:4), giving power to be witnesses (Acts 1:8) through a life that honors Christ; and love—keeping his commandments (1 John 5:3) and nothing separating us from his love (Romans 8). The love of Christ compelled them and they never quit.
▶ 35:30 You may be a mother of children. And have some flaw. You may be a husband that’s working your butt off to support that home and have some. Say it flaws yeah but you don’t want your wife bringing up your flaws. You want her talking about oh you’re a hard worker and you yeah boy. And the American church does not like ministers bringing up the church’s flaws they’ll go somewhere where your flaws aren’t talked about and that’s the problem in America. Three life-changing possessions number one Luke 24:45 Jesus opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures three and a half years he’s been teaching it to them three and a half years he’s been showing it to them by his lifestyle and now and look after he rose from the dead he opens their understanding that they can understand the scriptures now they possess.
▶ 36:37 The understanding of everything that he had told them. That. Is a possession that will radically change your life the second one Acts 2:4 all were filled with power of the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance as who gave them utterance you know you can’t charismatic and pentecostal they tell people just kind of talk faster I love you Lord I believe Lord. No. You speak as the spirit what gives you a there’s no gimmick to the Holy Ghost. If he isn’t giving you anything to say shut up. Is that an amen even in english if you haven’t got anything to say a wise man keeps his mouth shut.
▶ 37:36 What power does the Holy Ghost give us we already saw that the apostles had the ability to heal the sick raise the dead cast out demons cleanse the leper and preach the gospel what power does the Holy Ghost give up. Acts 1:8. You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you after the Holy Ghost has come upon you not you pretend it is but when he comes you’re going to have power and then he describes it you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem Judea and the uttermost parts of the world what’s he saying you’re going to receive power to live a life that brings honor to Jesus Christ let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works he said he’s going to give you power to be patient power to be kind.
▶ 38:42 The word and the spirit of love by the way God is a spirit isn’t that right and God is love so God is a spirit of love so when I get filled with the Holy Ghost his spirit I’m getting filled with a spirit of love love does no harm to his neighbor so therefore love is a witness unto Jesus. Isn’t that isn’t that just simple. And the word. The word is love. In first John 5:3. This is the love of God that you keep his commandments and his commandments are not grievous not burdensome they’re not hard why because they are the love of God he wants to keep you.
▶ 39:38 From undue harm. Undo mistakes in this world. Romans 8:35 nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which in Christ Jesus our Lord now they experience love. They experience understanding the scriptures they experience the baptism of Holy Ghost and now they are possessing love. Are you with me can we possess love yes can we have our understanding open to understand the scriptures yes can we be filled with the Holy Spirit tongues are no tongues and be a witness unto him yes. Yeah. Second Corinthians 5:11 the love of Christ compels us why did they go preach why didn’t they make any more mistakes they never made any more blunders.
▶ 40:32 Never. They didn’t have nervous breakdowns like pastors do today they didn’t run off with the church’s money and squander it and and right around in gold chariots and with the finest arabian horses they didn’t do that. Why because the love of God the love of Christ compelled them they preached the word they suffered stoning they suffered imprisonment they suffered beatings they suffered rejecting of their own countrymen and they just kept preaching the gospel. They never quit they never gave up. And love never quits love never gives up. The apostles I submit to you followed the more excellent way first Corinthians 13 love.
▶ 41:27 Ephesians the fruit of the spirit is more important than the gifts of the spirit and love and the fruit of the spirit leads to the possession of the nine gifts of the spirit and this is where us pentecostals and charismatics really messed up we taught or they taught I was a young Christian that if I got filled with the Holy Ghost I filled with power heal the sick raise the debt hallelujah man it took God showing me that the apostles already did that and they weren’t filled with the Holy Ghost. You see that’s why it pays to be on your knees with that book open studying it reading it and asking God for truth. They went through the more excellent way and the excellent way is love my wife needs me to love her my children need me to love her they could care the least if I can speak in tongues and interpret it doesn’t excite them at all the home needs a husband the home needs a father they don’t need somebody [unclear] through the house and prophesying through the house and casting demons our walls and all that they need a father that plays ball with them and yeah are you with me.
▶ 42:47 And that’s what love does love makes you a normal excellent person and every day I should say an everyday excellent person because you won’t do anything to hurt your spouse you won’t do anything to hurt your children you won’t do anything to hurt your nation love is the excellent thing and then when God can see that you have love then he can trust you with the word of wisdom the word of knowledge he can trust you with faith he can trust you with discernment of spirits he can trust you with healings and miracles he can trust you with prophecy tongues and interpretation he can trust you why because you’ve got the thing that’s superior you have love for the people love for God love for your family and he can trust you with thee what we would call the aircraft carrier in the military.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 8:35-39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 39:44How do you identify an apostle?
Short answer: Acts 2:43, 4:33 and 5:12: many wonders and signs by the apostles with great power; everyone who came was healed. 2 Corinthians 12:12: the signs of an apostle—in all patience, signs, wonders and mighty deeds. Hebrews 2:4: God bore witness with gifts of the Holy Ghost. Love comes first; then God can trust you with the gifts.
▶ 43:42 He can crutch and trust you with the power of these gifts of the spirit can I hear an amen. Identifying an apostle Acts 2:43 many wonders and signs were done by the apostles with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ Acts 4:33. Acts 5:12 the apostles did many signs and wonders among the people Peter’s shadow was healing people and everybody that came in acts chapter 5 got what healed everybody that came it wasn’t a hit and miss thing everybody got healed how many you know that gets the community’s attention. Second Corinthians 12:12 truly the signs of an apostle were worked among you and all patience an apostle has patience for you to grow up the Bible says this the the patience and the comfort of the scriptures you can have hope and expectation the apostles.
▶ 44:42 Understand that if they keep preaching the scriptures and teaching the word that God will grow up these people he doesn’t have to bash them and and embarrass them and everything else they will grow into a tree of righteousness can I hear an amen and signs wonders and mighty deeds. Hebrews 2:4 God also bearing the apostles witness both with signs wonders and different miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to his own will and I have researched Paul when I was a young Christian and Paul at one time or another exercise every gift of the Holy Spirit but he exercised them in God’s time. He just didn’t go on the mighty men of God man you’d bring your sick to me the Bible says he went to a town and God granted signs and wonders how many gifts of the Holy Ghost are there nine yeah.
▶ 45:46 And when they loved they got him he backed it up with the gifts of the spirit as well as signs and wonders which are part of the gifts of the spirit Acts 2 I mean Acts 17:5 those who have turned the world upside down have come here. That’s what the secular people had to say. Their enemies had to say their enemies these apostles Paul and Silas they’ve turned the world upside down how do you know this kind of ministry would turn America upside down yes I mean we know we’ve been promised that he would restore it.
