Holy Spirit Priorities: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
From 1 Corinthians 12:28 Pastor David G. Kincer shows God sets people in the church as he wills, ranked from apostles, prophets and teachers down to tongues. He explains the gifts of the Spirit, why the best gifts are those that edify, and why love is the more excellent way—showing what love looks like, why prophecy and tongues have not ceased, and how the fruit of the Spirit grows.
Who sets people in their place in the church?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 12:28: God sets some in the church as he sees fit—Bible college, seminary or catechism can’t do it, and no amount of groaning or faith will make you a prophet or apostle if he doesn’t want it. Then he gives the priority list.
▶ 0:00 So we’re going to go to first Corinthians 12:28. God has said some in the church who sets people in the church God does Bible college won’t do it Bible seminar won’t do it a catechism class won’t do it those are all good things to learn but God can only set you in the church as he sees fit as he desires if he don’t want you to be a prophet or apostle or whatever you’re not going to be one I don’t care how much you’ve grunt and groan and faith it you’re not going to do it are you with me that’s the important thing we’ve got to learn God sets in the church he calls preachers to preach he calls pastors the pastor he calls evangelists to evangelize and that is the big key and then he tells us the priority here first he says the number one in rank is apostles.

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.
— 1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:01What is the order of priority in 1 Corinthians 12:28?
Short answer: First apostles (ambassadors with full authority), second prophets (who predict and are right every time), third teachers who explain the whole counsel of God, fourth miracles, then healings, helps (aides like ushers and office workers—your high calling if God set you there), governments or administrations, and diversities of tongues last.
▶ 0:56 All right an ambassador with all the authority of God behind him second in rank is prophets the this is the office of a prophet one that can predict the future and be right every time. That’s the office of a prophet. The office of a teacher anybody can teach the Bible says there are ten thousand teachers of Christ but not many fathers there’s not a lot of teachers that are gifted to explain to you the whole counsel of God and if you’re not under a teacher that can explain to you the whole counsel of God you’re not going to grow. And. Fourth in rank this is the priorities miracles is in fourth place so miracles to God isn’t that big a deal.
▶ 1:52 And in the Pentecostal circles where I got saved assembly God and all that we made miracles a big deal but there are three positions above that. And when I got saved the people preaching in the church couldn’t preach worth five cents you know you get away from salvation. Eternal life you know they’re just lost. But after salvation there’s a lot more to come isn’t that right. Then healings. There’s a difference between healings and miracles. Then there’s helps helps is just an assistant an aid. And folks the church and Paul had all kinds of aids behind him when Paul traveled he traveled with a lot on his staff they were there to help him they were in the background doing a lot of work Paul was out doing all these miracles and preaching tremendous messages but they were doing the background work.
▶ 3:00 See the ushers song leaders children’s church workers you know office workers doing the books those are all aids and they can be there can be many aids many helpers in the church and we need them and in God if he set you in there to be in a aid and a helper that’s your high calling relax you are just as good as the apostle because your being what God set you in to be can I hear an amen yeah. Then you got governments or administrations and again. Not everybody is a leader. Not everybody people will follow and then you’ve got levels of administration and leadership and up like.
▶ 3:52 You know somebody’s over our horse program and they’ve made it profitable and they make that thing working that is a leader in a delegated department you see someone’s over the school then you’ve got school teachers over the kids in the in the learning center in the school room they are leaders. They’re leading they’re administrating they’re they’re organizing and getting the work done it takes a lot of these but it doesn’t take a lot of the first five. Does it if you had one apostle believe me he could shake this nation. Just one. Varieties of tongues okay diversity of tongues we know that on a day of Pentecost they spoke in 15 different languages that we know of all right variety of earthly tongues.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 4:15 (NKJV)
For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
— 1 Corinthians 4:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:18 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Is everyone an apostle, prophet, teacher or miracle worker?
Short answer: Paul asks: are all apostles, prophets, teachers, workers of miracles? Do all speak with tongues? He says God had about fifteen apostles and usually one to three prophets; Pentecostals wrongly made tongues the only initial sign, leaving people feeling second-class. Trying to be what God didn’t set you to be is pride.
▶ 4:46 And why people want to argue about tongues just blows my mind because it’s Bible. And tongues are a sign to who the unbeliever if God can draw unbelievers in with languages supernatural languages that you don’t know or the person speaking doesn’t know how many know we need to ask God to raise that ministry up in the church and stop arguing about it fighting over it then he says are all apostles now he’s challenging you sin do you think everybody’s going to be an apostle God only had like 15 apostles in the New Testament. During the times of the apostles only 15 that turned the whole world upside down. Number two are all prophets he only had a few prophets and he always had a few prophets all through the Old Testament he never had any more than two or three and most of the time there was one.
▶ 5:47 Are all teachers and I’m talking about the office of a teacher now these are offices these are positions God put you in and he gives you the ability to function in him see anybody can teach school if they know academics anybody can teach Christ if they know John 3:16 and and the salvation road. But not anybody can teach the Bible with clarity and authority. Are you there the whole counsel of God. Are all workers of miracles and this is another thing in our my pentecostal circles that I grew up in there haven’t they had everybody believing that they could pray and miracles would be done. And it wasn’t happening.
▶ 6:39 Now we can pray and God may grant a supernatural event but it doesn’t mean you have the office of a miracle worker Paul John Matthew and them they did it. All right then gifts of healing plural gifts of healing levels of healing. Then do all speak with tongues this is another thing in my pentecostal churches that in I grew up they said tongues was the only sign of the initial sign of the baptism of the Holy Ghost and then you got this and do all speak with tongue. And only one out of three people in the pentecostal charismatic circle spoke in tongue so the rest of them felt like they were second-class citizens. And don’t get me wrong.
▶ 7:35 Out of the five times in the Bible where corporate move of God to fill people with the Holy Ghost out of five times four of them they spoke in tongues a corporate meeting so don’t knock that. But don’t put a trip on people that they’re missing out if they don’t speak in tongues and if they’re not an apostle if they’re not a prophet they’re not a teacher if they’re none of these things they’re still a1 in God’s eyes can I hear an amen yes. Hallelujah. It’s pride and it’s it’s phoniness when we try to be something God has not set us in to be. Do all interpret. All right now. These are the priorities. All right.

1 Corinthians 12:29-30 (NKJV)
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?
— 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:18 (quoted; reference not named in the message)1 Corinthians 14:22 (NKJV)
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
— 1 Corinthians 14:22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:46 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Will God send apostles and prophets again?
Short answer: Matthew 23:34 and Luke 11:49: I will send prophets, apostles, wise men and scribes. Acts 3:20–21: heaven must receive Jesus until the restoration of all things spoken by the prophets. He says the falling away already happened, the apostle hasn’t been restored, so the church should seek to become glorious rather than wait for a rapture.
▶ 8:28 In Matthew 23:34 and Luke 11:49 the same account just a little clearer when you put them together Jesus said behold look he said I will send unto you apostles. Prophets wise men and scribes that is a prophecy he is predicting that he is going to send to the earth apostles prophets wise men and scribes scribes is a teacher of the law all right Lord. Acts 3:20. He may send Jesus Christ now Jesus has died he ascended back into heaven now here the scripture says he will send Jesus Christ whom the heavens must receive Jesus has to stay into the heavens.
▶ 9:26 Okay. Until a certain thing is accomplished. And what is that certain thing it’s got to be accomplished he is not coming back. In this verse until certain things are accomplished. Until the time seasons. We taught you that last year they’re seasons of God of restoration of all things how many things all things which God has spoken by the mouth of his prophet since the world began Adam was a prophet. The Bible says Adam was a prophet. Okay he’s got to restore everything that the prophet said now if you know your Bible. God told us in the scriptures that there would be a great falling away before the end time.
▶ 10:23 We’ve already had the great fallen away. Okay we need a falling back too. Everybody’s looking for the great falling away the fallen away has already happened let’s give her the program he’s restoring all things and what are the things he said he would restore. The apostle honestly I haven’t seen any since I’ve been a Christian there are people that say they’re apostles but they are not apostles according to the Bible they do not line up to the job description of an apostle and I’ll tell you one apostle can turn a nation around an apostle is a high-ranking. Full authority office of God and that hasn’t been restored so Jesus isn’t coming tomorrow he ain’t coming today he’s got some work to do in his church he loves this world and he’s going to manifest himself in the last days like he said he would there’s too many Christians just waiting for the rapture waiting for the rapture waiting for the rapture you should be seeking to grow up the church become a glorious church a church without spot a wrinkle or any such thing you should be believing and seeking for that a church that the gates of hell cannot prevail against a church that is victorious and conquering in this earth now.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 23:34 (NKJV)
Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
— Matthew 23:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:28Luke 11:49 (NKJV)
Therefore the wisdom of God also said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’
— Luke 11:49 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:30Acts 3:20-21 (NKJV)
and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.
— Acts 3:20-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:06Why does he value teachers so highly?
Short answer: Teachers sped up his growth by opening truth from Genesis to Revelation, but the Holy Spirit is the one who reveals it—listen again and pray it in. The end will not come until the gospel is preached to all nations as a witness with signs and wonders; we haven’t seen an all-nation move yet.
▶ 11:45 Amen. Cowards want to get raptured out. Teachers. I met teachers boy when I met teachers that really sped up my growth in God these pastors and evangelists they were narrow very narrow in the word I’m just being honest with you very narrow very limited to what they could preach but these teachers they just opened up the truth from Genesis to Revelations to you they would put so much in one message yeah I had to listen to it two or three times to get it out and then digest it I love that. Amen. Oh if you think you’re going to learn the Bible just listening to me today I’ve got news for you you’re going to have to go home get this message and listen to it and pray over it and ask God to birth it in you it’s the Holy Spirit that reveals truth to you not my speaking.
▶ 12:48 In that Bible yeah but if you don’t seek you don’t what find. Now. I submit to you that Jesus is going to keep his promise and send these in the earth he said the end time will not come until the gospel is preached throughout the world to all nations as a witness that means the apostles went out and the Bible says the apostles bore witness with the word what have they bear witness with signs and wonders and miraculous deeds backing up that word. We’ve seen little drops of it but we’ve never seen an all-nation movement yet you agree with that it’s not in history.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 24:14 (NKJV)
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
— Matthew 24:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:12 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How are the gifts of the Spirit given?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 12:7–11: the manifestation of the Spirit is given as God wills for the profit of all, to build mature believers. You can be filled with the Holy Ghost without tongues; it is a baptism of power to live a godly life. The list: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy (edification, not the office), discerning of spirits, tongues and interpretation.
▶ 13:41 We talk about the revivals here and a revival there and a move of God here in the move of God there God’s talking about a worldwide move of God that’s going to separate the church from the world hallelujah. Priority. Now we’re going to go back to the beginning of first Corinthians 12. I would not have you ignorant brethren of spiritual gifts he talks he says the manifestation of the spirit. The gifts of the spirit the expressions of the spirit are given to each one here it is again as God. Wills as he sees fit and when he sees fit and they’re there for the what profit of all the profit of the church to build the church to build the the believer.
▶ 14:38 Into a mature believer. Are you with me church. Hallelujah. Get your eyes off the rapture and get your eyes on the glorious church that God is going to present to this earth you remember he is he is going to present to the earth a bride that is mature and ready when he comes and folks we’re not ready. We’re not mature. Amen. Just look at television ministries and stuff and radio ministries. So God puts us in as he sees fit he gives gifts as he sees fit and if God doesn’t want you speaking in tongues believe me you’re not going to speak in tongues I don’t care how many tricks you try to use to get God to do something you can be filled with the Holy Ghost without speaking in tongues okay it’s a it’s a baptism of power.
▶ 15:41 Hallelujah and you need that power to live a godly life in this earth. Now. He gives a list and they’re basically in priority again the word of wisdom word of knowledge utterance gifts faith by the same spirit gifts of healing working in miracles that’s that’s the offices prophecy prophecy here is not the office of a prophet prophecy here is edification exhortation and comfort of the body of Christ which any of us could do at any time if God uses us there’s a big difference between this prophecy and the office of a prophet do you understand that. Hallelujah these people aren’t predicting things they’re edifying they’re encouraging you they’re strengthening you in the word of God and in your Christian character.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NKJV)
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
— 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:14 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What is discerning of spirits?
Short answer: He says there are three spirits to discern—evil, human and Holy—and the Spirit of God always backs up the Bible and Jesus. He recounts ministering in Latin America, Africa, Asia and China, where miracles happen and the church grows under persecution.
▶ 16:34 Discerning of spirits there’s only three spirits to discern evil spirit. Human spirit. Holy Spirit. It doesn’t take much knowledge of the Bible to immediately get discerning a spirit. You see the spirit of God always backs up the Bible always backs up Jesus. Human talking and saying they’re talking about the Holy Spirit when they get away from the Bible and Jesus they’re not in the spirit all right. Hallelujah. And believe me when you run across a demon as I have I have preached the gospel all over the world salvador paraguay brazil ghana ivory coast I’ve been in nigeria I’ve been in europe asia.
▶ 17:27 South korea china I have preached the gospel all over. And I’ve met some very wonderful people over there. Okay. There are miracles going on right now in south America and in africa whether the baptists and other denominational churches believe it or not it’s happening you see God don’t ask permission from denomination to do what he wants to do and just because America is declining in christianity south America and africa are increasing and in china me and mr barnes found the church was growing tremendously. In a nation where it was looked down on and and persecuted and mistreated growing we.
Scripture in this part
1 John 4:1-2 (NKJV)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
— 1 John 4:1-2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:36 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why does he preach what the Spirit is saying rather than straight through books?
Short answer: He describes Chinese believers mocking tongues and asks God what he wants to say to each church—“he that hath an ear let him hear what … the spirit is saying to the church.” Paul said forbid not to speak in tongues and tongues are a sign for unbelievers; go to the real authors and ask the Spirit to open them.
▶ 18:27 We experienced something great over that. Diverse tongues again an interpretation when I was in china at the beginning of my visit they were talking about people that filled the with Holy Ghost speaking in tongues in this group that sent me there took me there and I said you know I speak in tongue. The room got quiet. See you can talk freely all you want when no one’s around with the other side.
▶ 19:05 They didn’t believe in speaking in tongues they didn’t believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit they just believed you got the spirit when you got baptized I preached a message in that first group that first church where the leader was a spirit a message that God gave me was my son-in-law asked me a month ago or so you know have you changed your speaking in these last years and so forth and I said no I go to God and I ask him what do you want to say to the church that’s what it says in Revelations he that hath an ear let him hear what what the spirit is saying to the church how many you know the church needs to hear every group needs to hear what God wants to tell them that day and that meaning is that any man and that’s why I don’t go through the Bible like Calvary Chapel and them do okay we’re going to start with Genesis 1 well what if God isn’t talking to the church about Genesis 1.
▶ 20:03 You’re wasting your time. You said preacher you’re stepping on my toes you’re you’re getting a little over the edge here well I’m just giving you the word I learned as a young Christian I would rather hear and I got further when I could get around teachers and ministers that could minister the word that that group needed at the time. Can I hear an amen. And so we were out visiting in china and we come to this place and we’re having a prayer meeting and he asked me to pray at the end and then he said mockingly. He’s going to speak in tongues and everybody giggled but inside I paused and I said God show up.
▶ 20:56 I said man show up show these people I mean you know there’s a little selfish cry there. You can’t turn tongues off and you can’t turn it on it’s either there or it’s not but I was wanting God to give a demonstration right there but he didn’t all right but they mock they mock something that they don’t even know about and that’s sad when the Bible is very clear about it. Didn’t Paul say forbid not to speak in tongues didn’t he say that. Didn’t he say the tongues were a sign for unbelievers how are you going to take that out of the Bible. You’re going to take parts of Paul and you’re just going to take parts that you feel comfortable with or your Bible college told you to believe or your book from the Christian bookstore told you to believe you need to go to the real authors Matthew mark Luke John and Paul you Peter you need to go to those real authors.
Scripture in this part
Revelation 2:7 (NKJV)
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’
— Revelation 2:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:40 (quoted; reference not named in the message)1 Corinthians 14:39 (NKJV)
Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
— 1 Corinthians 14:39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:26 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Which gifts should we desire most?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 12:31: earnestly desire the best gifts. Tongues are at the bottom; utterance gifts like wisdom, knowledge and prophecy rank higher because they edify the church—you live on the revealed word, not yesterday’s healing. Then Paul shows a more excellent way.
▶ 21:57 And say Holy Spirit open this book up to me. And ask him to lead you to people who can teach that book you still got to have teachers. 12 28. Sincerely earnestly desire the best gifts. So there are levels of gifts that are higher priority than other gifts as we saw right tongues was at the bottom what did charismatics and pentecostals and the circles I grew up in push. Tongues the bottom of the list they never thought about the word of wisdom the word of knowledge. Which is a higher utterance prophecy is a higher utterance Paul said it prophecy.
▶ 22:50 Was the best gift he said the utterance gifts are the best gift and why did Paul say that because utterance gifts edify build the church. You know you get healed and everybody’s excited the next day you gotta live. You’re going to live on that healing. No you’re going to live on the word of God being revealed by the spirit. That was a good place for a good amen there. And then he says I’m going to show you a more excellent way I’m going to show you show you a superior way to get the gifts of the spirit in fact he’s going to show us the only way to get them. You’re not going to get them if you don’t go this way.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 12:31 (NKJV)
But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
— 1 Corinthians 12:31 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:14 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What is the more excellent way?
Short answer: 1 Corinthians 13:1–3: tongues without love are a clanging cymbal; prophecy, understanding all mysteries and knowledge, faith to move mountains, giving to the poor, or martyrdom without love profit nothing. God used Caiaphas and Cyrus, but that didn’t make them ministers. Love is the high office anyone can hold.
▶ 23:43 And then he starts you know the Bible has been chapterized you know he he isn’t starting he’s continuing. And first Corinthians 13 he starts talking about love is the superior way. It’s not miracles. It’s not having some high office in the church love is the high office. Wow that was good and how many of us can have that office all of us. Before we get gifts we must get love and who is love God is love. We need God folks I love that song I didn’t come here to give you my complaints and ask you for anything I just come to let you talk to me.
▶ 24:42 I learned so much letting God and that’s why I like spirit-filled churches they would have all their calls and you could go up in the presence of God was there we had our problems but I tell you we had some goodies and God could talk to me in those altar calls go right into the depths of my soul and change me from the inside by his word and by his spirit. So I clung to pentecostal charismatic circles because of the presence and the ability of that spirit to fashion me do what the preacher couldn’t do. Amen. They can teach us but it takes God to give you life. Now. The more excellent way let’s look at the more excellent way here.
▶ 25:37 Though I speak with tongues of men and of angels and have not love I’ve become a sounding brass and a clanging cymbal in other words you’re just a source of irritation. You’re just irritable why because you don’t have love. And we also see that there is tongues of men and tongues of angels. Tongues of men can be interpreted and it’s very powerful when it’s interpreted and people know the interpretation and they know the people that are doing it have no ability to speak that language it causes a tremendous presence of God a tremendous presence of faith to come into the kingdom. But when we have a little tongue talking tournament on another sister lulu’s got to get up and and and and and and supersede that attack louder and longer and the next one louder and longer it doesn’t do anything but irritate the people sitting there waiting for this nonsense to stop.
▶ 26:46 Now I got a right to say that because I grew up through it you don’t have a right to talk about pentecostals and charismatic because if you haven’t been one of them and birth through it and understood the thing you understand that don’t you go out of here today criticizing Pentecostals and charismatics I got the right to point out our problems. Because I had to get through these problems I was pressured to preach tongues was a sign the only sign I was pressured to get anywhere in that church if you didn’t believe what they believed then you couldn’t be ordained and you can get a preacher’s license and you couldn’t do anything until you believe what they wanted you to believe and that’s what these groups do the catholics want to make you a catholic the baptists want to make you a Baptist the vineyard wanted to make you a vineyard the Calvary Chapel wants to make you a Calvary chaplain and presbyterian and I can go on down the line the muslims want to make you a muslim but the Holy Ghost and the word of God wants to make you a Christian.
▶ 27:46 Amen a part of the body of Christ there’s only one church. Hallelujah. So God isn’t going to give a gift to somebody it’s going to irritate the congregation. You get the point then he says though I have the gift of prophecy all right the office of a prophet I have the gift of prophecy I’ve been set in or I can exhort and encourage and comfort the body of Christ either one and I have understand all mysteries you see. That’s that spirit of Revelation that’s that teaching. Ministry I understand the word of God the word of God is hidden in mysteries and allegories and the teacher understands them and all knowledge.
▶ 28:43 Okay. I have that word of knowledge I can speak the word and I can tell you the word I have knowledge of the word and though I have all the faith to move mountains wow he moved to mount he must be really spiritual that guy wow I’m going to follow him no Paul says no. If they don’t have love they’re nothing. I mean you know God used Caiaphas to prophesy Jesus Christ’s death burial and resurrection how many Caiaphas was the high priest of the temple and an unbeliever and a murderer of Jesus Christ just because God uses somebody one time to do something. Like Cyrus in the Old Testament and so forth does not make them. A minister of God you understand that hallelujah.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NKJV)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
— 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:38 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 11:51 (NKJV)
Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
— John 11:51 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:12 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What is wrong with “my faith”?
Short answer: He says faith comes by hearing the word and Jesus’ word is truth; candidates kept saying “my faith” when they should speak of truth from the Bible. Helping the poor or suffering persecution without love counts for nothing with God; a church that preaches the gospel is still a church.
▶ 29:39 And the Pentecost is a charismatic is known to follow in the healings and the miracles or or advertisement that they’re going to do it all you got to do is advertise healings and miracles you go there nothing’s going on but all they get worked up and they get oh yeah and they believe things that aren’t happening are happening they’re faking it. I visited that florida revival it was a big farce put on by God tv and all the rest there was nothing going on there and the preaching was horrible but the worship. God honored it why because God loves people folks. He’s always drawing people to him in spite of ministers. And it’s amazing how the church in America focuses on faith the presidential election all I heard all week was my faith my faith Rubio’s got his faith Cruz has got his faith Trump’s got his faith and Carson’s.
▶ 30:39 Got his faith everybody’s got his faith we don’t have a right to have our faith. We only have the right to believe what God told us to believe and be convinced of what God told us to believe in and if you do that you have truth. You see faith comes by hearing the word Jesus said my word is truth. And what they should be saying the truth that I have from the Bible that automatically would get the nation’s attention. Now that was good. But when they use the word God that’s a general word use the word Jesus that makes people mad or glad. And Rubio did have the guts to stand up and use the name of Jesus back there a month or so ago did a great job of describing it but he kept making this mistake my faith my faith my faith.
▶ 31:40 His faith allowed him to go to a catholic church and bow before idols and do holy water and signs of the cross and all that which is not in the Bible. Are you there what is your faith allowing you to do this not in the Bible. You see we need to grow in our faith didn’t the Bible say we go from faith to faith. We need to grow in our faith and possess these things. Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and I give my body to be burned my martyr for God persecuted for righteousness sake if I don’t have love it profits me nothing that means I am worthless. I get no brownie points with God.
▶ 32:33 And what’s America focusing in on right now other than faith. Oh if you’re helping the poor if you’re helping the drug addicts and the people on the streets are not oh what a church what a church but folks if you don’t have love God doesn’t look at it as anything up in heaven. Sinners can help the poor. And they do. Is God challenging your thinking this morning. Foreign. And they’ve literally turned the church that I. Experience in the 50s a powerful church we had our problems but there was a move of God people were getting saved righteousness was exalted things were happening.
▶ 33:27 They’ve literally turned that around to where we’re just a faith camp believe in that we’re going to receive things and we don’t have them and we’re helping the poor oh what a church when the tax people came down to look over the ministry here and everything their final word was are you helping the neighborhood are you helping the people of Elsinore and we do but I said sir I don’t have to help anybody I’m a church because God has called this church to preach the gospel to build people in God to get people saved and if we never helped anyone. In Elsinore we’re still a church is that an amen. Hallelujah. And just because America.
▶ 34:22 Has turned its back on christianity and taken away our religious liberty and we feel persecuted because our photographers can’t deny homosexuals a photograph. Or a bakery can’t deny. Homosexuals a cake we feel sorry for ourselves listen if the American church doesn’t have love. This martyrdom and this persecution is nothing to God. Profits us nothing we need to get back to the high calling of God love. You agree. We need to put it as a priority because God puts it in prayer the Holy Ghost puts it in priority the Bible puts it a priority.
Scripture in this part
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
— Romans 10:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:58 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 17:17 (NKJV)
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
— John 17:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 31:01 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What does love look like?
Short answer: Love is patient and kind, not jealous, doesn’t promote self or pastors above Christ, isn’t proud or rude—he asked God for manners after the streets of Detroit—doesn’t demand its own way, isn’t easily angered, thinks no evil even toward homosexuals while wanting the nation protected, rejoices in truth, bears, believes, hopes and endures all things.
▶ 35:19 Here’s the description of love a long description it’s patient and it suffers a long time it’s kind it is not jealous so-and-so has got a bigger church than we do or you know so-and-so has got a better ministry than I do or someone says got a better job than I do we are not jealous. We’re like Paul we are content where God has placed us amen if we’ve done all we can do to make money and provide and that’s the best of our ability that’s a1 in God’s eyes. Not promote self I hear people promoting their pastor their church all the time I go man don’t they understand this Bible the basic thing of the Bible we are to promote Christ we are to promote truth.
▶ 36:13 There is no minister in America worth. Mentioning on your lips that is higher than Jesus Christ and more important can I hear an amen. Our faith is not in ministers our faith is in Jesus Christ and the power of his truth to change my life. No pride pride is thinking more highly of yourself than you ought you know the way we walk our clothes we will check me out I got a tie on today hallelujah. Yeah I’m not a hippie. I mean it’s good rest of y’all out there you’ll be backslid. We have pride over that oh stupid thing or if God uses us wow but I’m something.
▶ 37:12 Yeah you get that and God won’t use you until you get straightened out. No rude behavior I’m shocked at how Christians will talk to other Christians that have been in Christ three years or more they should have grown out of that church just because you’re rude today doesn’t mean you have to be rude tomorrow amen. The opposite of rude is manners. Now I come from the streets of Detroit you know I wasn’t far away from where Carson grew up and my neighborhood was bad but let me tell you Ben Carson neighborhood that was some neighborhood. And so you you get hard you get street tough. You get street-wise and I had to ask God give me manners I had to break out of that toughness that crudeness.
▶ 38:06 It was a habit in me you know we had that certain walk you know and you had to you boy you mess with me man you had that look are you looking at me like you want to challenge me man. You gotta break that literally in Detroit you didn’t look at people in the eye unless you were ready to fight you didn’t dare look people now in Detroit that’s honest truth. They don’t demand their own way. Life submit. Well why don’t you submit. Husbands are supposed to submit to Christ wives are supposed to submit to the husband and with both together we’re supposed to raise our family and direct our family and the way they should go.
▶ 39:04 You know the man can buy guns and typewriters back then and whatever he wanted but the wife couldn’t get a crock pot or or a lamp to put in a living room there’s something wrong foreign. I’m telling you the truth I dealt with these birds and then you got these bossy women men don’t know nothing men are just stupid you better listen to me I’m spiritual I’m home I’m seeking God I’m going to Bible studies and all that and and I’m spiritual you better listen to me. I’ve seen it all. Put the guy on a guilt trip because he’s working and bringing home the bacon and she’s going to prayer meetings in the morning and you know and all this stuff hallelujah oh man jeez. Doesn’t demand its own way it’s the right way we got to demand what is right.
▶ 40:04 Not easily angered Christians get irritated and annoyed so quickly. And they show it when they lash out with their tongue. And they’ll lash out with their fists. I’ve seen parents abuse their kids verbally. Because they have no control over anger and our Holy Spirit won’t allow you to have unrighteous anger righteous anger is fine. See Jesus was mad when he threw the money changers out of the temple he was angry. Thinks no harm or no evil. Doesn’t want something bad happened to the homosexuals because you know they’re getting freedom in America that we know is going to hurt America tomorrow.
▶ 40:57 But in the Holy Ghost you don’t want. Them killed or anything you want them disciplined and corrected and America protected from that lifestyle that is corrupt and destructive. They’re still human beings see I don’t have I’ve led I’ve told you before over 50 homosexuals to Christ prayed the sinner’s prayer got converted and I told you that over 30 of them are still serving Christ most of them did not marry. They still have a problem with the opposite sex they haven’t overcome that. But if they are not exercising same-sex acts how many you know they’re okay. Yeah. God never executed anyone for thinking wrong only if they carried it out I don’t know if they had they never executed anyone for desiring to do something wrong they had to act it out.
▶ 42:06 Amen. So literally I don’t have any hatred and when I got filled with the Holy Ghost folks God took the hatred out of me there was a baptism of love. All my hatred and despise and looking down now I loved everybody because God loved me I experienced such a power of love I couldn’t over get over it and that’s what I’ve shared ever since. Amen it is a baptism of the spirit of God and God is love. They rejoice over truth not iniquity. And the American church. People who have their children in public schools where they are teaching them that same-sex marriage and same-sex lifestyle and having sex before marriage is okay the parents Christian parents do not have enough of God’s love to challenge that iniquity.
▶ 43:15 They’re teaching lies they’re teaching our kids to violate the word of God. They don’t stand up for truth and when you get baptized in the Holy Ghost you get baptized in truth and one of the greatest signs of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a hunger for the word you can’t get enough of the word and that’s what Jesus said the comforter he will lead you into all truth where is the truth the Bible you’re going to read it you’re going to study it you’re going to memorize it why because that Holy Ghost will move you to do it. Hallelujah. Bears all things doesn’t the Bible say to bear one another’s burdens yes. And I’ll help the person when one has heard in the body we hurt with it see we bear things.
▶ 44:15 We believe all things does that mean we believe muslims are going to heaven no we believe all things that the Bible tells us to believe. We don’t have a right to our beliefs. We hope we expect all things I can expect to be grow into the image of Christ I think I can expect to experience the love of God I can expect that and I can endure all the opposition. That comes in my life people hate me they talk about me they lie about me I can handle it why because it’s part of the baptism of the Holy Ghost it is part of love. Love never fails never quits never gives up.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV)
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Have prophecy and tongues ceased?
Short answer: He says the Baptist teaching is wrong: a prophecy “fails” when it is fulfilled (the virgin birth), tongues ceased at Pentecost when Peter preached, and knowledge vanishes as we forget. When that which is perfect—complete love—comes, the parts are done away, as a grown man puts away childish things.
▶ 45:12 Prophecies fail let me explain this to you the baptists are wrong here. They’re just flat out wrong. Somebody told them what to believe and they passed it on for 200 more years here in America. They say that prophecies fail okay after the apostles died no more prophets. No more miracles. No more tongues tongues of the Devil. Prophecies failed let me give you an illustration Isaiah said a virgin shall conceive and bring forth a man-child. And you shall call his name Emmanuel. Then we find Jesus being born of a virgin. Named Jesus and also repeated this verse Emmanuel God with us Emmanuel means God with us Jesus was God with us don’t ever let anybody think tell you that Jesus is a separate person the body is.
▶ 46:14 A human body but God in that human body is what Jesus says so once Jesus came a prophet can’t stand up and said a virgin is going to conceive and bring forth the man-child and you shall call his name Emmanuel. Why that prophecy is over you get it. See when another prophet said they’re going to pierce his side you can’t get up and prophesy he’s going to pierce his side now and and the wounds in his hands and his feet because it’s done it ended it was fulfilled. Amen. Tongues will cease yes on the day of Pentecost they spoke in 15 different languages the mighty works of God they got the people’s attention and then the tongue stopped and Peter stood up and preached a short sermon about Jesus Christ and thousands came to him did tongue stop.
▶ 47:14 Yes they stopped that day. God was through with it you can’t go 24 hours a day and go to the market like I hear on tv you know and you don’t have enough money to pay and you just start praying in tongues and and somebody wants to rob you start praying in tongues. Yeah. That’s what I see on tv. And most people get their understanding of spirit-filled church believers from tv and that’s your worst place. They’re out to make money they want the money to come in. Knowledge shall vanish away how many of can you can you remember all of mike’s message last Sunday.
▶ 48:10 You’re right not raising your hand I mean we can remember 75 percent. Yeah does knowledge vanish away why because we’re human beings we forget that’s why we got to go to church and keep being prodded to love and to good work we forget. We forget what we read Wednesday in the Bible it was so great. But Sunday we got up and read and something’s great for that day and we forgot all about Wednesday. Are you with me. And I tell my best brethren if this is true. Then this has to be true and that means the knowledge of salvation isn’t coming to people. And God would have us all. Come to the knowledge of salvation doesn’t the Bible say that so if knowledge doesn’t really stop we just forget it neither does tongues and prophecies.
▶ 49:12 But see when you’re taught with people that don’t get their truth from the Holy Ghost you start believing lies as truth. You hear it enough you start believing it. We know in part and prophesy in part Isaiah had the prophecy of the virgin amos had the prophecy of another part of God Micah had the prophecy of the church Zechariah. You know he had other prophecies going to come riding on a donkey on a on a you know into the city and all that everybody had a part okay. And we know in part and when we talk we come together we get more understanding why because we share our parts. Are you with me now.
▶ 50:08 When that which is perfect comes that which is in part is done away. Okay what’s perfect. What’s he talking about in this paragraph love the subject is love when love comes. The parts vanish away. Now we still need prophecy and knowledge and tongues and all that because we got baby believers coming in they need to grow right but when you get love the complete perfect means complete okay complete when you get the complete love the part’s done away with why is it done away with. When I was a child I spoke as a child I understood as a child and I thought as a child when I became a man complete. Full grown I put away childish things what do kids do they play house they play mama they play daddy they play doctor.
▶ 51:11 They don’t have the responsibility to feed you know they they play with a doll they can feed that dog they can’t pay the utility but they’re playing they’re acting it out and that’s what is happening in the American church we are acting out things that we think we believe and have and we don’t have them and that makes us actors. Well that was good. And so then what do we have we have faith in our faith. And faith in your faith won’t work for you you must have faith in the word and faith in Jesus that’s what works faith and truth and exercise it. See but when these kids grow up they can’t play house anymore they can’t play doctor.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 13:8-11 (NKJV)
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
— 1 Corinthians 13:8-11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:12 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
— Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 45:45 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What grows when love is the priority?
Short answer: The greatest of faith, hope and love is love; possession beats faith or expectation. Love does no harm to a neighbor (Romans 13:10). The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control—grows naturally like a tree planted by rivers of water (Psalm 1).
▶ 52:06 They got to be responsible. They got to carry out the activities the responsibility of a marriage of a family it’s not a game anymore. And God says when you get complete in love you grow up spiritually and to a mature Christian you don’t need those parts anymore because you have the real thing now. Now by its faith hope and love these three but the greatest is what love where does America put their emphasis on faith everything’s about faith okay I can be persuaded that I can be saved I can be persuaded that I can know God eternal life is to know God and his only son Jesus Christ I can be persuaded that prophecies and and and and offices of ministry are in the church I can be persuaded of a lot of things that does not mean I possess them.
▶ 53:06 Then when we stop just having faith in our faith we don’t possess. Well I believe I believe I believe that’s what I hear presidential candidate saying is well I think I think I believe I I don’t want your thinking I don’t want your belief I want to know the facts and the truth or how you’re going to turn this nation or back around to righteousness back to free enterprise back to being a people who who know how to take care of themselves. I’m not interested in your beliefs. Hallelujah. And if you got your faith in these republican or democratic candidates God help you. Most of them are going to disappoint you if they get elected they’re going to disappoint you going to be the same old same old hope I expect I expect to go to heaven I expect to know Christ I expect the new covenant that he will put his word in my mind and my heart but I never read the Bible I never go to Bible studies.
▶ 54:11 I expect to know God and I never pray and I never worship at the church I never get involved. But I expect. Expecting is good but possession is better. Amen. Possession is the key and that’s what’s going to help the home and that’s what’s going to help America possessing love. That is patient and kind doesn’t brag about itself doesn’t demand its own way. Amen. That’s what’s going to help a marriage that’s what’s going to help a family that’s what’s going to help your children your genuine you’re following the way of excellence I’ll show you a more excellent way to love focus on love Romans 13:10 love does not harm to a neighbor therefore love is the fulfillment of the gospel of the law.
▶ 55:09 See you wouldn’t do anything to hurt your wife you wouldn’t do anything to hurt your husband you wouldn’t do anything to hurt your kids and that doesn’t mean you don’t discipline you discipline because you know that’s going to train them up and and teach them the fruit of the spirit doesn’t say God placed in. People with love people with joy people with peace he said the fruit of the spirit a fruit grows naturally when it’s attached to the tree and it has the water and it had the fertilizer and it has the season the fruits grow naturally and that’s exactly how God looks at us you are trees of righteousness. The planting of the Lord and of you will get in the atmosphere of the word the atmosphere of his presence there is no way to grow but grow to go but growth it’s natural you don’t have to grunt it you don’t have to name it and claim it you don’t have to you know repeat enough I’m a full I’m a mature Christian I’m a mature Christian I’m a mature Christian hallelujah I believe it it’s a natural process.
▶ 56:23 The fruit of the spirit. Is love what’s number one priority love. Joy Christians are depressed and cast down. The baptism of Holy Ghost and it’s fruit will change that you’ll be able to bear up under things you’ll be able to endure thing peace is the absence of conflict you have a conflict in your home or conflict with yourself or a conflict with God the Holy Ghost will solve that patience. You shoot your mouth off too quick you’re impatient with your wife your children people who were the Holy Ghost will solve them. He’ll give you the ability to handle adverse speech and adverse behavior without having a bad attitude.
▶ 57:17 Foreign. Attitude. Kindness. [unclear] kindness goes a lot further than harshness. Yeah. Goodness. Faithfulness. You’re reliable they can count on you you keep your word when you take your marriage vows that spouse can rely on you staying faithful. The fruit of the spirit loyal the church can count on you your children can count on you and it’s a fruit of the spirit meekness self-control is just controlling yourself taking the responsibility of doing what’s right and not doing what’s wrong. Against such there’s no what law.
▶ 58:12 And we made a mistake of focusing on miracles in the 50s there was so much focus on miracles people running balance in their checkbooks they weren’t taking care of their family but oh my gosh if they could go to church and feel the presence of God hallelujah or see a miracle somebody got healed everything’s okay and you know that doesn’t help the home when you go home and the bills aren’t paid and utilities get turned off and you know you spend more money than you make blessed are they who delight in the law of the Lord and in his law do they meditate day and night. They shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that’s the Holy Ghost. They will bring forth fruit in their season I don’t even know when you need faith you need faith.
▶ 59:04 Let me know when you need a healing you need a physical healing yeah know how many of you when you need patience you need patience. And when you need joy you need joy and the season you need it it will be there for you and everything the leaf will not wither oh they’ll go through some dry times but they won’t dry up. Because God has dry seasons but you don’t dry up. And everything you do will prosper. If we do what’s according to his will and.
