Historical Examples of Falling Away, Opposing God and His Church 04/15/2018: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Pastor David G. Kincer gives historical examples of believers opposing what God was doing: crowds rejecting Jesus, the New Testament church and what it lacked, the falling away he dates to Constantine, and restoration movements from the 1300s through the Pentecostal outpouring, each opposed by the last. He ties the great awakenings to America’s founding and urges the church to ask for latter rain now.
Why do believers fight against God?
Short answer: They don’t know God or understand the scriptures. Acts 5:38–39; Paul said he did it ignorantly; Jesus said they would kill you thinking they serve God.
▶ 0:00 we have been talking about from Acts 5:38 and Acts 23:9 believers fighting against God if something’s of men it will come to naught but it’s of the Lord and you oppose it you will find yourself fighting against God why do we fight against God because the people and the rulers did not know God nor the prophets words that are read and spoken every Sabbath they didn’t understand the Bible so they would oppose God because they didn’t have understanding that’s what Paul said I did it ignorantly and [unclear] he didn’t understand the scriptures and they killed Jesus they killed Jesus because they didn’t understand they were fulfilling scriptures Jesus said the time comes that they’ll put you out of the synagogues and kill you thinking they did they’re doing God a service these things shall they do because they have not known the father.
Scripture in this part
Acts 5:38-39 (NKJV)
And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.”
— Acts 5:38-39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:001 Timothy 1:13 (NKJV)
although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
— 1 Timothy 1:13 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:39 (quoted; reference not named in the message)John 16:2-3 (NKJV)
They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.
— John 16:2-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:55 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What kind of being put out is he talking about?
Short answer: Not discipline for immorality or division, but being cast out for right gospel doctrine. Jesus warned that family would betray family.
▶ 1:03 Nor have they known me now we’re not talking about being put out of the church because of sexual immorality because of covetousness and idolatry and of being a talking down people with your tongue intoxication of alcohol and drugs we’re not talking about the casting out of the divider mark those that cause division among you and don’t have anything to do with them but we’re talking about being cast out for gospel doctrine which is right doctrine okay and Jesus also said brother shall betray brother to death father the son [unclear] their parents and many will be offended they will stumble they will fall away betray [unclear] and hate one another.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:21 (NKJV)
“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
— Matthew 10:21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:48 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Matthew 24:10 (NKJV)
And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
— Matthew 24:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:53 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Did people believe Jesus?
Short answer: Acts 13:40–41 quotes Habakkuk 1:5. Jesus was prophesied, born of a virgin, did miracles, died, rose and ascended—and multitudes still didn’t believe.
▶ 2:02 Okay why because they don’t understand the scriptures they don’t understand God and they don’t understand Jesus Christ could that be true yeah scripturally it is true and it is true factually so we are going to. give you historical examples of falling away and opposing God. We’re going to springboard off the scripture in Acts 13:40 where the book of Acts quotes Habakkuk 1:5. Beware lest that come upon you which was spoken by the prophet I will work a work in your days. You will not believe though it be declared to you now what did God do throughout history that.
▶ 2:59 Believers did not believe though it was clearly explained to them in the scripture is that a good question alright. Now the first thing is Jesus Christ he was prophesied to come in the Old Testament and he came he was born of a virgin. he preached the gospel of the kingdom he told people to repent and be water baptized for the forgiveness of sin he did signs and wonders and miracles healings all for three and a half years he died on the cross for the sins of the world he rose that we might walk in newness of life he ascended back into the heavens and he’s coming again and many people did not believe it though it was told them isn’t that right when you read the New Testament yes multitudes came to Christ but more multitudes didn’t believe it isn’t that correct that is correct now.
Scripture in this part
Acts 13:40-41 (NKJV)
Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you: ‘Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.’ ”
— Acts 13:40-41 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:32Habakkuk 1:5 (NKJV)
“Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.
— Habakkuk 1:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:02What church did Jesus come to build?
Short answer: Matthew 16:18: a church the gates of hell can’t overcome. People saw his miracles and still explained them away—“by the prince of devils.”
▶ 4:08 We read in Matthew 16:18 I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it Jesus come to die for the sins of the world because he had to forgive you to get you in his church. See dying for you to be forgiven for your sins is what had to happen before you could become a part of his church he also came to build a church and a certain kind of church a church that the gates of hell the power of darkness cannot be victorious over I submit to you is that true in America today. Is the church victorious over the powers of darkness or are we cooperating with the powers of darkness are
▶ 5:02 you there. Jesus came to do this and at that time Jesus said you won’t believe except I do miracles in your midst. Then he turns around and says even though I’ve done many miracles and signs and wonders you still won’t believe not only was it declared to them what God was doing but they could see it in the miraculous. Manifestations of physical healing and miracles like walking on water and calming the storm and so forth are you with me and they still wouldn’t believe exactly like the prophet said I’m going to do something in your day and you’re not going to believe it though it’s plainly told you you will not follow.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 16:18 (NKJV)
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
— Matthew 16:18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:10Matthew 12:24 (NKJV)
Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”
— Matthew 12:24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:55 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Why do some Christians’ lives collapse?
Short answer: Their foundation is church doctrine, not Jesus the chief cornerstone and the original apostles and prophets. Romans 1:16: the gospel is the power of God.
▶ 5:56 And. this is their generation. They even [unclear] had the audacity to say he cast out devils by the prince of devils Beelzebub isn’t it. They just explained away just like the prophet said now we also find that the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. Ok and the people multitudes would not believe it. And folks the foundation is what holds the whole house up that’s what holds the walls that’s why it holds the roof that holds everything in a house it’s the foundation and if the foundation isn’t right and you try to build on it the building collapses this is why so many Christians’ lives collapse.
▶ 6:56 When winds of adversity come when storms of adversity come they fall apart why their foundation is wrong their foundation is on some church doctrine or their doctrine or their beliefs and not on Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone and the gospel that the apostles and prophets spoke. Could that be an amen and why are others steadfast in God no matter what comes their way because they’ve been built on the foundation of Jesus Christ the apostles and the prophets the original apostles and prophets not today’s apostles and prophets today’s apostles and prophets must stay in the parameters of the original ones is that an amen we have no right to move out of those dimensions and so they would not believe the apostles or the prophets Romans 1:16 I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ it is the power of God the supernatural ability of God to for salvation to all that believe and so we’re built on the gospel [unclear] that the apostles taught the prophets taught and Jesus Christ taught and we’re to line up with Jesus Christ not even the apostles [unclear] we’re to line up with Jesus Christ Paul says follow me as I follow Christ but [unclear] I don’t follow Christ don’t you follow me isn’t that
Scripture in this part
Ephesians 2:20 (NKJV)
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,
— Ephesians 2:20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:25 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Romans 1:16 (NKJV)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
— Romans 1:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:561 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV)
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
— 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:21 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What was the New Testament church like?
Short answer: Strong in morality and correcting sin and error, full of signs and wonders, praying and singing, holding to the virgin birth, death and resurrection, and water baptism as an inward work (Romans 6).
▶ 8:26 true today we’re to line up with Christ okay but they wouldn’t believe it multitudes would not believe it when Christ came and he said I will build my church and so we have a Lego wall going up here representing Christ building his church all right you as living stones are in this church you as living stones [unclear] Peter says so the early church the New Testament church. They were strong in Bible morality they were strong in righteousness. We’re talking about the New Testament church the one that’s mentioned in the Bible and we can read about in the Bible are you with me and they were strong in correcting sin and doctrinal error when there was a doctrinal error they come together the apostles the elders and so forth and they dealt with that doctrinal error or they dealt with sin whenever [unclear] sin in the church like sexual immorality and so forth they dealt with it they didn’t hide it under the carpet they dealt with it.
▶ 9:37 that’s what you read in the New Testament isn’t that true yeah.. They had signs and wonders happening all the time in the New Testament church everywhere you read people are being healed miraculous things are being done prison [unclear] doors open and healings [unclear] Peter’s shadow healing people and so forth signs and wonders and healings were just a common everyday thing in the New Testament church. They didn’t argue about whether it’s for today or not it was just happening amen. Now they were a praying church and they were a singing and thanksgiving church. They didn’t argue about whether you can sing or not sing or lift your hands or not lift your hand or kneel or not [unclear] they did it are you there today we debate it.
▶ 10:43 They were adamant about Christ’s virgin birth his death and resurrection for sin never did they deviate from it. Are you with me they didn’t argue about it they didn’t debate it that was the cornerstone his death burial resurrection being born of a virgin no questions asked. Water baptism they just got water baptized they didn’t debate whether you’re supposed to be water baptized and what it all meant was it an outward sign of an inward working that’s malarkey that came hundreds of years later. water baptism is not an outward sign of an inward work it is an inward work the death of the old man of sin and the resurrection of the new man of righteousness a slave to righteousness that’s what it says in Romans 6 isn’t that right not an outward sign of an inward work [unclear] can I hear an amen they didn’t argue about it no we argue about everything Holy Spirit baptism they [unclear] argue about that either they were filled with the spirit in groups.
▶ 11:56 Several times in the New Testament and as individuals in other times ten times were given a reference to people being filled with the Holy Ghost. They didn’t fight it they didn’t argue about it they just experienced it it is a baptism of power the Holy Spirit is one that leads you into all truth the Holy Spirit is the one that convicts you of sin righteousness and judgment do we need the Holy Ghost yes. But. The early church didn’t debate it they just did it they believed in the second return in fact they believed in the second return so bad that Paul had to address the issue they thought Christ was coming any minute and Paul had to address the issue in second Thessalonians and say he’s not coming any minute and what is the biggest belief in Europe and America about the second coming he is coming any minute.
Scripture in this part
Romans 6:4 (NKJV)
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
— Romans 6:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:361 Peter 2:5 (NKJV)
you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
— 1 Peter 2:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:45 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What was missing from the early church?
Short answer: No priests, popes or spiritual fathers, no robes, no intoxication, no sexual sin, no prosperity preaching, no buildings, no denominations, no idols, penance, candles or seminaries.
▶ 12:56 We still hang on to these things because what we don’t understand the scriptures we don’t understand God and we don’t understand Jesus and God wants us to understand and participate in them and receive these things could that be an amen. There was no priest mentioned in the New Testament except the priesthood of the believer to minister to Christ is that correct no man was called a priest no man was called a father a spiritual father in the New Testament church no man was called a pope in that right it’s not there no man wore robes no one the apostles in the elders they didn’t wear robes. Distinguishing them above everybody else you know I’m a minister none of them did it there was no intoxication in the New Testament church drugs or alcohol they didn’t do it they didn’t drink you couldn’t be a leader in the church and drink oh
▶ 14:08 Yeah. The only problem with intoxication came from the baby Christians in first Corinthians Christians are developing into maturity are you with me but the elders and the church leaders and the core church people did not drink or take drugs or anything intoxication was out. They did not have sex you don’t read anywhere where the apostles or elders anybody having sex with members of their congregation you don’t read about them having homosexual acts or approving a homosexual acts or approving of adultery or fornication or sex with kids or sex with animals no where in the early church did that happen is that an amen. They did not preach prosperity.
▶ 15:06 in fact they said he that tells you that gain is godliness separate from [unclear] and they didn’t go to the other extreme and say that the church was a great church because it helped the poor the early church only helped the poor in the church you read the Bible did not help the poor outside of the church it helped the poor inside the church and they had to meet stringent requirements isn’t that right. They didn’t kill and hate those that disagreed with them. Isn’t that correct. They did not build temples that elaborate temples or any kind they never built a church building in the New Testament church they met in homes and public places and in Jewish synagogues are you there.
▶ 16:09 They didn’t have groups. The Paul group the Peter group the Apollos group the Matthew group they didn’t have groups there was one group and it was the church of Jesus Christ isn’t that correct no Catholic no Baptist no Pentecostal none of that stuff is in the New Testament church they didn’t have idols to help them pray [unclear]. Now [unclear] you get an idol of Matthew so that you can focus on prayer or you know idol of Joseph so you can focus they didn’t exalt Mary Mary is not mentioned but one time after the gospels.
▶ 16:56 She was never elevated to anything in God neither were the saints when people tried to worship the apostles they forbade them and said no we’re human beings like you you don’t do that isn’t that right in the New Testament church and none of these things were done penance no where does it say that you had to do anything to get forgiveness what you had to do is repent that was your penance you had to turn from your sin that was the penance [unclear] you stopped sinning you turn from it could that be an amen they wasn’t no Hail Marys to say they wasn’t no beating of the back or crawling on your knees or whatever trying to find repentance you simply ask he simply gave it to you and you proved it by turning from your sin that’s the price you pay you had to fight that flesh and turn from the sin could that be an amen none of this ever happened they didn’t use candles and holy water and incense
▶ 18:01 or prayer cloths. Never happened. They didn’t have seminaries and Bible colleges to go to to learn how to be a minister the Holy Ghost taught in every church in the New Testament church it was the Holy Ghost that was teaching them the things of God and calling out ministers you read Acts 13 the Lord the Holy Ghost said separate me Paul and Barnabas for the work I’ve called them to the Holy Ghost was doing all this stuff not a vote of the congregation and all that the Holy Ghost came to the churches and the Holy Ghost taught them is that an amen. Because when you start having seminaries and Bible college you start learning exactly what that person teaches you wants you to learn but when you go to the Holy Spirit and you go to the Bible you will learn what the Holy Spirit wants you to learn and he will always back up truth
Scripture in this part
1 Timothy 6:5 (NKJV)
useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.
— 1 Timothy 6:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:09 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Acts 13:2 (NKJV)
As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
— Acts 13:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:34 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What did the early church teach on marriage?
Short answer: Marriage was always between a man and a woman. Paul had a gift to be unmarried; God put desire for the opposite sex in us.
▶ 19:10 isn’t that right. Did that give you something to think about yeah. the New Testament church was strong on marriage marriage between a man and a woman never even came up the marriage between a man and a man and a woman a woman never was even brought up in the New Testament church it was always a man and a woman and Paul was the only one that didn’t get married and the Bible plainly tells us he had a gift to not be married well that’s pretty easy you got a gift to do without the opposite sex that makes it easy well you ain’t got the gift you’re gonna be chasing them other people.
▶ 20:03 Those hormones are gonna rise up they’re [unclear] want them to be active am I right and God is the one to put the hormones in us there’s nothing wrong with us having a desire toward the opposite sex God put it there so that we would replenish the earth and one way or another we’re gonna do it the right way or the wrong way but we’re gonna do it because there’s something he put in us to drive us to marry between a man and a woman amen and when these churches when the Catholic church came up with all this nonsense and the Orthodox church They were opposing the gospel of Christ because it’s not in there are you with me. Alleluia.
Scripture in this part
1 Corinthians 7:7 (NKJV)
For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
— 1 Corinthians 7:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 19:49 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Are we under law?
Short answer: Jesus fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17). Romans 6:14: not under law but under grace—yet we are still under civil law; we’re freed from the law of sin and death.
▶ 20:56 The Jews and the Gentiles they opposed this New Testament church yeah Matthew 5:17 Jesus said I came not to destroy the law or the prophets but to fulfill them. okay civil law he fulfilled by not breaking any civil law the ten commandments are civil laws the last part of them the first part of them are spirit spiritual law Jesus Christ obeyed them all he fulfilled them that’s why he was the perfect lamb also the shadow laws he fulfilled the laws that pointed to the real truths that were to come are you with me he fulfilled them now it says in Romans 6:14 you are not under the law but under grace and so many of the churches say well we’re not under law you know once saved always saved no matter what I do I’m [unclear] not under law you go out and kill somebody and see [unclear] you don’t pay a price for it in El Salvador [unclear] I was there some bandits came and just slaughtered the man of the house took his pigs took his property and took off just slaughtered the man of the house right in front of his family.
▶ 22:17 those [unclear] family relatives [unclear] the brothers the sisters they chased these guys down and butchered them with machetes on the riverbank where they stopped. Are you with me and as a preacher I said you did the right thing. they wanted to know [unclear] I was there ministering and they wanted to know and I told that family you did the right [unclear] and I showed them in the scriptures where they did the right thing because in El Salvador there was not a good police department there was their military was a boy scout troop and if you did not defend your property and your land these bad people who wanted to be lazy and not work would come and take it and you had to defend are you with me.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 5:17 (NKJV)
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
— Matthew 5:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:02Romans 6:14 (NKJV)
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
— Romans 6:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:42Romans 8:2 (NKJV)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
— Romans 8:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:13 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Who opposed God’s work in the early church?
Short answer: Acts 21: thousands of believing Jews zealous of the shadow laws wanted to kill Paul; in Acts 14 Gentiles called Barnabas and Paul gods.
▶ 23:14 We’re still under civil law church what we’re not under is the law of sin and death anymore amen he has set us free from the law of sin and death and he fulfilled the shadow laws so we don’t have to sacrifice animals or wear robes or burn incense or anything like that all those things pointed to truths which we operate now in the truth form amen a shadow leads to the real thing now. Acts 21:22 [unclear] now Paul goes down to Jerusalem for a feast day and they come out and tell Paul there are thousands of Jews that believe and they’re all zealous of the law what law the shadow law they still wanted to wear their beanies they still wanted to sacrifice animals they still wanted to burn incense they still wanted to do these things.
▶ 24:16 are you there and guess what they wanted to kill Paul because Paul taught that those shadow laws were ended and these believers wanted to kill Paul are you out there so here is an example of them. Not believing a work that God was doing in their day he ended the shadow laws they believed in Jesus but they wanted to keep the shadow laws that’s why you got to be careful of judging the Catholics and the Orthodox church and so forth because if they’re doing these [unclear] things these idolatries and so forth. These Jews were considered believers even though they still were zealous of the shadow laws which were ended it is possible to be a Catholic or an Orthodox believer and be in that church and I’ve met them okay they love Jesus they’re following righteousness but they’re in that church that has all this nonsense going on are you there be careful.
Scripture in this part
Acts 21:20 (NKJV)
And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many myriads of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law;
— Acts 21:20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:59 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Acts 14:12 (NKJV)
And Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.
— Acts 14:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:39When did the falling away come?
Short answer: Around 325 AD, he says, when Constantine made Christianity Rome’s religion; corruption, immorality and drunkenness followed.
▶ 25:40 Alleluia. the Gentiles in Acts 14:12 they called Barnabas Jupiter and Paul Hermes. Greek gods see they wanted to bring their Greek religion into the Christian religion isn’t that just basically what people want to do even today we want to bring world music into the church world we want to bring our worldly. Desires and stuff into the church world or worldly way of doing things into the church world that’s the way we are in nature and the famous statement is I don’t see nothing wrong well that’s the problem they can’t see and the Holy Ghost comes to open our eyes amen. So these Jews and Gentiles opposed it and the rulers then came along the Catholics and the Orthodox which I told you before because they.
▶ 26:44 Broadcast to the world they can trace their chronology back to Jesus. Then I have to tell them face to face then you have to take blame for the next thing God was going to do and that is the falling away. First Timothy 4:1. 2nd Thessalonians 1:7 through chapter 2 verse 3 the falling away the apostasy the rejection of the gospel for your own doctrines and your own ritual. and 325 AD around that time Constantine the emperor of Rome made Christianity the nation’s religion and from that moment the church went downhill fast.
▶ 27:39 all these things that I’ve mentioned [unclear] sexual immorality priests having sex with nuns nuns having sex with nuns priests having sex with priests babies being born and buried in the convent so no one would know all of this corruption and you can read it in history [unclear] get your encyclopedia Britannica out encyclopedia you’ll read all this in history I’m not making this stuff up the alcohol the drunkenness going on in the church leadership in the church was horrible. priests were alcoholics even today priests are alcoholics and the Catholic church has a secret place where they send their priests to get detoxed and every once in a while the Catholic church is caught and priests are caught having sex with priests having sex with kids and having sex with women and everything am I right.
Scripture in this part
1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV)
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
— 1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 27:052 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV)
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
— 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 25:40 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Can Christ come any minute?
Short answer: No. Paul said a falling away must come first and the people of sin be revealed. Christ destroys the apostasy with the word of his mouth.
▶ 28:41 Jesus prophesied there would be a falling away first let’s go to 2nd Thessalonians 1:7 Christ shall not come Paul said imminent or any minute [unclear] the Americans [unclear] get that now. 90% of the American church believes he can come right now and my question to them is why didn’t he come one minute ago well he just didn’t decide to come well why why didn’t he come there has to be a reason and one of the reasons is there has to be a falling away first and not just a falling away first. but the people of sin revealed. The sin of falling away has got to be exposed. It’s got to be uncovered before Christ can come back are you with me.
▶ 29:38 And we take no note of this at all things have to happen before Christ can come that’s why Paul says he’s not coming any minute and it’s the very thing that the American church believes right now any minute why because all the radio stations all the tv stations keep saying it and you keep hearing it you believe it and Paul said it’s not so so do we go back to the apostle Paul or do we believe the apostles and preachers today we got to go back to the apostle Paul things have to take place before Christ can come they are heirs of destruction they’re descendants of destruction they’re an inheritance of destruction now there’s different ways of destruction there’s the final destruction in a lake of fire there is the spiritual destruction where you can grieve the Holy Ghost and you can quench the Holy Ghost you can do things that bring a famine in your life a spiritual famine in your life and God wants his people’s hearts to be spiritually alive amen.
▶ 30:49 Hallelujah. These people oppose all that is called God or worship they come up with their own worship ideas. they come up with their own approach to God and they exalt [unclear] all that is called God or worship their man-made ideas and beliefs are you with me now. all of this iniquity all of this lawlessness [unclear] Paul said is going to be revealed it’s going to be exposed why cuz he wants to save people he didn’t want them in apostasy he don’t want them falling away and he’s going to destroy with the spirit of his mouth now we know if you’ve been in the church for a while and that the sword of the Lord the sword of his mouth is the word of God and by the word of God being preached he can come and destroy that apostasy in people.
▶ 32:05 Amen by the word of his mouth the second thing is his second coming the advent well I don’t want to wait till the second coming that’s too late unless he’s talking about some kind of manifestation being done to expose this just prior to his coming. See Christ is coming for us in us and to us. But his appearance is that final thing when we see him so they don’t believe it you talk to a Catholic they don’t believe they’re in the apostasy back there in 300 they didn’t believe there they didn’t believe it that they were committing the apostasy in the falling away leaving the doctrines of the gospel for their own doctrines they didn’t believe it and they don’t believe it today is the Catholic and Orthodox church still
Scripture in this part
2 Thessalonians 2:3-8 (NKJV)
Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
— 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:50 (quoted; reference not named in the message)How has God restored the church?
Short answer: Acts 3:21: restoration of all things. Scripture’s authority, faith, baptism, holy living, healing and the Pentecostal outpouring—each move opposed by the one before.
▶ 33:07 doing these things yeah they’re just not killing people anymore because governments won’t allow it other than that they’re in the apostasy and you asked them and they’ll go not me am I right. Now the same God that said there would be a falling away said there would be a restoration and that happened in 1380 so for a thousand years we had the dark ages of falling away horrible things going on in the church and some people started rising up and saying to the Catholic church the scriptures are the authority for what we believe and how we behave and it started with people like the [unclear] the [unclear] the Wycliffe John [unclear] [unclear] was killed for his stand and saying that the [unclear] scriptures is the authority we got to stand on not the pope not the Catholic church is that a true thing yeah the first thing God restored was the authority of the scripture and it cost people their life for saying that.
▶ 34:32 And Acts 3:20 God shall send Jesus Christ and the heavens must receive until the times of restoration of what how many things. Okay all things specifically what is all things. Which God has spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets since the world began that means Adam the first prophet all the way down to Malachi the last prophet in the Old Testament to John the Baptist the first prophet of the New Testament are you there. All these things have to be fulfilled and I submit to the church world have they been look at the church and tell me that all things have been restored a
▶ 35:27 church that’s supposed to be victorious over the gates of hell are we really there no any idiot can look at the American church and the European church and know that we’re lacking amen not all of us now as we’ll get to this in a minute so. after John [unclear] and [unclear] and these other people we all know the Lutheran church [unclear] Martin Luther rose up the just shall live by faith started a new denomination the Baptists rose up and said not only do the just live by faith but we got to be water baptized and we got to make a public confession that Jesus Christ is our Lord and savior the Lutherans say okay you want to be baptized sure come in and they held them under and drowned them read your history.
▶ 36:23 The previous move of God opposed the next move of God if it wasn’t revealed to them it couldn’t be that’s basically it if God didn’t come to our group and show it then it’s heresy. Are you there. then the Methodists came along and said not only do we need [unclear] the just live by faith we’re saved by faith through grace not only did we need to be water baptized and confess Christ but we need to live moral righteous lives [unclear] you know that is true that’s what it’s all about and then you got the Presbyterians the Congregationalists and the [unclear] they are all forms of government of the church okay and if you really read the New Testament you will find that the early church was run by a church leader
▶ 37:21 under the supervision of a group of elders elder is not old people it is a gift to lead you understand. And the congregation also approved no changes could be made without the three agreeing and we read about it in Acts 15 then the advent came along the second coming movement and as I told you before that second coming thing got so hyped up that in 1840s the great disappointment came thousands of people believed Jesus was coming because some guy came up with a chart through numerology that Jesus is coming on this day and 1840s and he didn’t come and thousands of people had sold their homes their property quit their jobs even went and bought robes to meet him and I don’t know why I wonder where did they get that from they would go and buy these these welcoming robes you know the [unclear] these white robes and they would take a
▶ 38:28 spiritual bath so that they were ready for Jesus there’s no natural ritual to make you ready for Jesus it is a spiritual work amen. And he didn’t show up and people literally committed suicide the great disappointment it was called and we’re still adamant about trying to figure out the day of Christ when the Bible says no you know then you have the missionary alliance the missionary alliance brought in healing and it was by total accident this mother had a child dying of a disease she asked her pastor to come and pray for that child so the pastor went over there and did his thing and prayed for the child okay and lo and behold bam.
▶ 39:21 The child was healed the pastor was shocked the mother was thankful the mother had the faith the pastor did a ritual thing yeah you read it Simpson [unclear] Simpson you read about it okay the pastor went back and started searching the scriptures and lo and behold. Healing is in the Bible my goodness. This mother knew it but the preacher didn’t know it. And so this guy started preaching healing and he joined other groups that were preaching healing and God restored healing physical healing back into the church and then you got the 1900s early 1900 the Pentecostal movement where God filled and poured out his Holy Spirit with tongues with healing with all the other doctrines that.
▶ 40:26 God had restored. Are you there and there’s nine spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost in the Bible and they didn’t get all nine of them working in the early part of the nineteenth century but they got tongues interpretation. And divine healing was restored and that movement only lasted about three and a half years and guess what a one-eyed black man was leading this movement when blacks could not rule over whites and not only that he had women as leaders in his church. White women black women I mean.
▶ 41:22 And women were not supposed to be ruling over men at that time they hadn’t won their independence yet are you with me see what God can do people wanted God more than they cared about where who was leading are you there and they come from all over the world and at the same time there was a movement in Wales in deep repentance and salvation and another movement at the same time in Korea where God brought to them spiritual prayer I will pray with the spirit I will pray with understanding spiritual prayer when I was in Korea they still pray that way today I tell you. It’s awesome they still pray that way none of this [unclear]. They open their mouths and they pray and it is quite a
▶ 42:18 great thing to experience the power of God’s presence in prayer like that they [unclear] connected to the spirit and they pray are you there and the group I went over with wanted to stop that kind of prayer because some of them are Calvary Chapel people and they pray quietly and I said you can’t do that you can’t ask these people to do that God birthed this in them I gave them the evidence I gave them the proof from records back in the early 1900s this is what God did and every one of them backed off and said I didn’t know that’s our problem see we don’t know and when we don’t know we oppose isn’t that right. Are you learning anything today hallelujah. So.
Scripture in this part
Acts 3:21 (NKJV)
whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.
— Acts 3:21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:36 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What followed the second apostasy?
Short answer: Acts 3:19: times of refreshing. Great awakenings confronted the liberals and prepared America’s founding; he applies the Constitution’s aims today.
▶ 43:15 Just 200 years later. and I’m gonna use their words because they use them the liberals [unclear].. The modernists they called themselves we have to have a modern church for a modern society. humanists they called themselves prayer doesn’t answer things men have to rise up and solve their own problem. Okay. This was the second apostasy they infiltrated every denomination and had the church going downhill forgetting the gospel but
▶ 44:00 This same God that said there would be a falling away and that would be a restoration is the same God that said I will send times of refreshing and lo and behold we read in the scripture in Acts 3:19 repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out and the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord you see why this church tries to focus on his presence his presence can do things as humans cannot do and so God stepped down from heaven in the 1700 the early part of the 1700s and God began to move in the churches and he raised up people that challenged and confronted this liberal movement and they.
▶ 45:07 Call themselves liberals today so I’m not picking on anyone I’m just telling you what they called themselves they called themselves modernist they called themselves [unclear]. That’s what they believed in and that’s what I’m preaching to you and the problem we got in America is preachers are afraid to preach the whole knowledge of God. Because we don’t have understanding we fall in to the opposition of helping people destroy things so. there were four great awakenings in the United States in Europe you can read them in your Britannica you can read them in your [unclear] encyclopedia you can read them in any history book they recognize four great spiritual awakenings and I live through the last one it just so happens that this spiritual awakening was just before the Revolutionary War just before the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
▶ 46:14 this awakening is what prepared the American colonists to come up with the statement. all people are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain [unclear] rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness where did they get that from this awakening are you there. that Constitution that they came up with it was this awakening that brought it we the people of the United States of America in order to form a more perfect union. Are we in unity today the Constitution was written to what bring us in unity establish justice do we have real justice of right and wrong today in America no.
▶ 47:13 murderers can get away with murder at the most they might spend five or seven years in prison for murdering premeditated cold-blooded murder am I right and yet the Constitution was what written to establish right [unclear] wrong. Amen and it’s the liberals that are trying to change the Constitution just like they try to change the gospel. It’s the liberal it’s the modernist it’s the humanist. He said to ensure domestic tranquility or peace do we have domestic peace in America no way and he said to promote.
▶ 48:08 the welfare the general welfare not provide the general welfare promote the general welfare how do you do that by providing jobs by making laws that that people can work and have some self-esteem not be on welfare and food stamps are you there the liberals are fighting see there’s not only an apostasy from the gospel there’s an apostasy from a tremendous God-given Constitution that our founding fathers gave us could that be an amen and most Christians aren’t taught the Constitution in church they don’t read about it and so they just follow the six o’clock news. Are you there. And then it says to provide for the common defense and every time a liberal gets in government and they are the majority our military dwindles am I right read your history am I right yes.
▶ 49:17 Obama about destroyed our military. And that Constitution says they are to protect us amen. The freedom of speech the freedom of religion you mentioned Jesus in public places you use the Bible for your source of debate and see what happens it’s not accepted is it you cannot quote the Bible in a public debate and you can’t use the name of Jesus. even President Trump uses God all the time because of the pressure not to use the word Jesus that’s why I tell the church world say Jesus don’t say God they’ve reduced God down [unclear] general deity Jesus specifies it is the Christian God amen.
▶ 50:17 then as I told you God raised up the Pentecostals and in 1948 he raised up the evangelicals. Billy Graham was an evangelical evangelicals didn’t [unclear] Pentecostal spirit-filled baptism they just said tongues was not the only sign of it and I had to agree with him tongues is not the only sign or not the only thing in the baptism of the Holy Ghost you read your Bible. it’s part of it’s one of the gifts it’s one of nine Billy Graham said we got to flow together with our differences we got to come together. Oral Roberts was raised up here in that time and he went in a stream of healing and as a young child growing up there are a lot of healings going on William [unclear] [unclear] only lasted a short period of time would actually tell the person he had no card to tell him what was wrong they came up and William [unclear] would tell them what was wrong with them.
▶ 51:29 You have a tumor in your certain place or whatever it was and they would go yeah and you want God to hear you yes and he would pray and God would heal them I’ve seen folks tremendous things done in this fourth awakening which we will cover in detail next time are you interested in the fourth awakening because you are the children of that you are the results of that and you need to know what went on then okay so who opposed the Pentecostals and evangelicals the fundamentalists. They didn’t want to go beyond the basic scriptures no healing no tongues no Holy Ghost baptism and yet these Pentecostals and charismatics and these people were fundamentalist they believed everything the fundamentalist believe.
▶ 52:26 Amen. That was one of them when I got saved I was a fundamentalist too I believed everything the fundamentalists believe but when I went to get a movie made by Bob Jones University a strong Baptist college in the south they gave me a questionnaire to fill out and on that questionnaire was do you attend or approve of Billy Graham crusades and of course I did anybody preaching the gospel getting people saved [unclear] would I have a problem yeah he wasn’t in my camp but there was nothing wrong with Billy Graham and so I said yeah I approve it they wrote back and says you can’t have it because you are a member of the World Council of Churches well I’m no member in a World Council of Churches what are you talking about you approve of Billy Graham crusades he invites anybody into his crusades I said yeah that’s what Christians do they invite anybody in amen.
Scripture in this part
Acts 3:19 (NKJV)
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
— Acts 3:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 44:20What should we do now?
Short answer: Zechariah 10:1: ask the Lord for rain in the time of latter rain. We can be refreshed now; Christ comes to destroy the apostasy and set you free.
▶ 53:25 See we oppose. what we don’t experience or want [unclear] experience and we don’t go to the scriptures to find out. God wants to bring in the religions God wants to bring in the sinners is that an amen and in closing I want to submit to you that these groups including the Mormons including [unclear] are still in apostasy is that true they’re not standing on the gospel God still promised to reveal it he don’t want these people inheriting destruction he wants to save them amen amen. And if I was one of them I wouldn’t want God to come and wake me up is that true and listen to this.
▶ 54:22 In Zechariah 10:1 ask the Lord rain in time of latter rain and he will make lightning clouds and give showers of rain now I’ve shared with you there was a falling away now we are in the time of restoration aren’t we he hasn’t restored it all so we’re in the time of restoration we can ask God to restore us [unclear] if we’re lacking it’s the time of rain it’s the time of God movement we don’t have to wait for a national movement we don’t have to wait for a global movement we can get into the move of God ourselves. It’s the time of refreshing can God come and refresh us before he moves nationwide or global wide absolutely when we have Jesus Christ the cornerstone Jesus is the way the truth and the life I have life I am not dead I am not dry even through the time of the falling away not me I have Jesus I have the Holy Spirit I have the way the truth in the life and I’m always walking in revival I’m always walking in life why because he is the way the truth and the life and no man can have any more than Jesus Christ.
▶ 55:43 Amen. And I don’t have to follow these people that go the other way I don’t have to just soft-soap things just to try to keep a congregation and giving money I can tell them the truth that the liberals are trying to destroy the church and the liberals are trying to destroy the nation of America and bring down the Constitution but through Christ we can rise up and confront it like the fundamentalist did in the 1700 we can rise up in our generation and confront this thing and win amen. Hallelujah. But we got to ask we got to ask and remember he said a lightning storm a lightning storm you can see from afar off when that lightning flashes you can see it miles away can’t you you haven’t got the rain yet but you no one’s coming and not only can you see it you can hear it mmm.
▶ 56:44 isn’t that right and you know how far away the rain is by the distance between the light and the sound and let me tell you you can hear in your spiritual man the voice of the prophets the voice of the apostles the voice of Christ speaking to you you can see the light of his words and the light of his presence coming to you and when that rain begins to fall you can feel the rain it’s not some organizational thing [unclear] you just believe in you feel rain and that rain cleanses you if you’re out in it that rain brings a cleansing on everything around it in that right and when the rain is done the sun comes out the growth shows you see the growth. and church we got to decide what kind of church we’re going to be we got to decide what kind of people we’re going to be.
▶ 57:41 Are we gonna stand on Jesus Christ and the gospel the apostles and the prophets are we gonna stand on our own beliefs. are we going to accept others being in apostasy instead of getting the word out that they can be delivered and not [unclear] destroyed in their life and some of you this morning have apostasy in your life. Christ isn’t coming to destroy you he comes to destroy the apostasy the thing that you’re holding on to that doesn’t line up with God in the scriptures and set you free hallelujah you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free did you hear some truth this morning.
