Gospel Commitment Brings Gospel Rewards 01/28/2018: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Pastor David G. Kincer teaches that success comes from committing to follow Jesus, not faith alone. From Mark 8 and 10, believers deny themselves daily, refuse to deny Christ and are redeemed only by his precious blood. Those who leave houses and family for the gospel receive eternal life and a hundredfold now, with persecutions—even from their own household.
Is success in faith or in commitment?
Short answer: Commitment turns a promise into reality—like marriage vows. He has seen people go “loony” leaning on faith alone, without the Bible’s other principles.
▶ 0:00 at the gospel [unclear] this is a third session and we’re gonna be talking about the gospel commitments bring gospel rewards Abraham Lincoln said commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality and that is a true statement you see we take marriage vows and we say we’re going to be faithful that we’re going to stick with each other through the bad times the good times sickness and in health and all that but commitment is what’s going to bring that promise to a reality love is a commitment. Real love is a commitment a real love is not an affection physically for someone real love is a commitment to someone and if you don’t keep the commitment you’re not going to get the reality of the promise and we all know over 50% of Christians are divorcing today because of commitment and I’m going to ask this question is success in a faith
What is the Bible’s formula for success?
Short answer: Joshua 1:7–8: be strong and courageous, do all that is written—then you will prosper. James 2: demons believe; a man is justified by works and not by faith only.
▶ 1:11 or a follow commitment is success and prosperity in the Bible is it in your faith or is it in your commitment to follow him and the gospel is that a good question yes. Folks I’ve seen many people I’ve seen them go loony leaning on faith I’ve seen them kill themselves leaning on faith I have seen this in all denominations people put all their eggs in one basket called faith and it was really promoted when I was growing up in the church and it wasn’t working there’s more to that Bible than faith could that be true yes I mean I’ve seen good people actually go loony trying to use the principle of faith without the other principles Joshua 1:7 be strong and brave you know we don’t have a brave and strong America today our soldiers they’re weak they’re committing suicide they’re going crazy our vets are dying and killing themselves at 20 a day [unclear] back in my day men were men they could handle problems they could handle difficulties but the majority
▶ 2:41 of men have been raised weaklings in America today could that be an amen and the Bible says come on church be strong be brave. Do all that is written in the book of the law do all not believe all do all for then you will make your way prosperous and you will have good success amen that is a Bible formula the gospel is the key. James 2:19 you believe that there’s one God you do well that’s good. but the demons believe that and they tremble because they’re not going to heaven are you there. In verse 24 the same chapter of James a man is justified by works and not by faith only.
Scripture in this part
Joshua 1:7-8 (NKJV)
Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
— Joshua 1:7-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:11James 2:19 (NKJV)
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
— James 2:19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:14James 2:24 (NKJV)
You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
— James 2:24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:32What does following Jesus require?
Short answer: Mark 8:34: deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow. Following means conforming to and imitating him; denying means laying aside your own interests, fears, doubts and distractions.
▶ 3:40 if you’re justified by your actions by your speech [unclear] justify is made right with God reconciled to God so. We’re gonna be talking about following Jesus a commitment to following Jesus in Mark 8:34 through 38 we’re gonna go scripture by scripture Jesus said whosoever will follow after me let him deny himself take up his cross daily and follow me. Okay. That’s as clear as you can get the word follow means to join to come alongside to stand with to conform to to imitate. it’s a powerful word it’s not a little puppy-dog following behind their master you’re conforming to the master you imitate the master are you with me alleluia first of all we got to deny ourselves deny simply means lay aside and let go of your own interest.
▶ 4:55 Okay your own distractions whether it is fear whether it is doubt whether it is your own opinions and your own belief that isn’t lined up with the Bible you got to lay it aside. Whether it’s your feelings so many people go by their feelings well I feel and I feel you don’t go by feelings you go by facts. Amen. Now the main thing is you got to lay aside the affairs of life the affairs of life are things that God told us to do he told us to get married [unclear] have kids he told us to work he told us to take care of the sick he told us to do all these good things but we can get so wrapped up in our daily life we forget to follow Jesus Christ.
▶ 5:54 [unclear] we get so wrapped up in right things that we eliminate another right thing so that is [unclear] I deny myself then I got to take up my cross daily the word daily is there all right now we know Christ died and he carried his cross he took up his cross and died a horrible death marred more than any man pain more than any man the Bible says to save the world but he didn’t die daily he died on one day one time. but he tells us to die what daily well if I physically died daily I wouldn’t be there the next day to die again so it’s obvious he’s talking about what.
▶ 6:54 Denying yourself laying aside your own interest your own distractions daily. Your fears your doubts. your affairs of life your own opinions. take up your cross the cross is an execution style it is death the cross means nothing if Jesus had not died on it that death is what made the reconciliation to God all right we used the cross to remind us of his death it’s his death that is the key that wooden cross had nothing to do with anything it was just a form of execution you understand so Jesus took his cross one time we can’t die for the world he did it for saving the world to forgive the world of their sins and reconcile them back to God we can’t do that if we go out here and kill ourselves it doesn’t save anybody his death did you know right so we die daily from laying down our own interests laying aside our distractions and following Jesus Christ and [unclear] that’s basically what we do every day we try to bring ourselves under to follow
Scripture in this part
Mark 8:34 (NKJV)
When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
— Mark 8:34 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:56Luke 9:23 (NKJV)
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
— Luke 9:23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:08 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What was Jesus’ commitment?
Short answer: The cross. First Peter 1:18–20: we are redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, foreordained before the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8: the Lamb slain from the foundation.
▶ 8:25 Christ okay now I want you to understand that the death on the cross was God’s commitment for Jesus. That’s what Jesus was for he was to commit himself to that cross to die for the sins of the world and build his church in first Peter 1:18 you are redeemed with the precious blood of Christ remember this word precious it’s coming up again priceless you are redeemed with the priceless blood of Christ there is nothing else that could pay the price for your redemption he bought you out of the slavery of sin he bought you out of the slavery of Satan he bought you out of the slavery the kingdom of darkness he bought you you are his property when you accept his terms.
▶ 9:18 Amen that’s why Paul [unclear] said we are slaves of Christ [unclear] he purchased us and It’s only sensible to what serve the one who purchased us out of destruction. And it was done before the foundation of the world. You say God made this plan before he [unclear] created the heavens and the earth his first plan his first creation was Jesus not that he was a created being but his first created plan was God’s going to come in the flesh and die for the sins of the world before he said hey you know earth be created and let there be light and all this stuff first you were in his mind isn’t that beautiful foreordained means predetermined God predetermined before the earth was created that Jesus would die and it’s backed up in Revelation 13:8 the lamb slain from the foundation of the world all right and that’s why Revelation says that he is the beginning of creation and a lot of people can’t handle that because they know Jesus is not a created being like we are see he is a [unclear] part of God who already exists to come in the flesh and die and he did that before he ever made man because he knew if he gave man a choice
▶ 10:49 his own will that they would mess up and they’d have to be brought back it is a great plan in the Bible great it just explains everything in detail all right so. That was Jesus’s commitment. Christian commitment is to follow Jesus and the gospel daily. Daily we got to lay down our own interest our own distractions and follow Jesus Christ in the gospel does that make sense we keep dying to ourselves correcting ourselves getting back up from our mistakes and keep following Jesus we die daily to our own interests our own distractions. is that correct is there anybody here that doesn’t do that you see that’s the daily part.
Scripture in this part
1 Peter 1:18-20 (NKJV)
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
— 1 Peter 1:18-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:47Revelation 13:8 (NKJV)
All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
— Revelation 13:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:17What does it mean to save or lose your life?
Short answer: Mark 8:35: compromising to please persecutors loses your soul; losing your life for Christ and the gospel saves it. You may flee persecution, but you can’t deny Christ.
▶ 11:45 We’re always trying to kill the old sinful man and keep him under submission to righteousness is that correct all right so let’s continue with Jesus’s exhortation here whosoever will save his life shall lose it it’s exactly what it says it is there’s no interpretation needed or anything if you are going to do something to save your physical life. Because someone is threatening you for following Jesus. All right if you do something to please them to compromise you’re gonna lose your soul lose life is talking about your soul the part of you that lives forever the physical body will die but your spirit your soul will live on for eternity and if you compromise and they mock you they laugh at you they don’t want anything to do with you they mistreat you and so you compromise so that you’re liked or whatever Jesus said if that is the case you’re gonna lose eternal life does that make sense.
▶ 13:05 The bottom line is you can run from persecution but you can’t run from denying Christ and laying down your life for him you understand that you’ll understand it as we get into it further you don’t have to stand there and let somebody kill you is what I’m saying so you can be a great martyr you have the scriptures to run to avoid to hide yourself if you got a family you got to support them you got kids you got to raise them it is foolish to just turn yourself into a martyr thinking you’re some pure spiritual giant okay then he goes on to say but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it wow so if you actually die physically and many have and they’re dying today and I don’t have time to give you the facts on it they’re dying especially in the middle east people are dying because they believe in Jesus Christ that’s the bottom line in Korea they’re dying because they have a Bible in their home I can show you a picture [unclear] somewhere down the road where they’re brought into a stadium and they’re executed simply because they owned a Bible in North Korea.
▶ 14:26 See this is the reality it’s not in America yet we’re persecuted differently but in other places they have to choose. To give their life up and not deny Christ it says lose your life for a good cause and that cause is Jesus and the gospel and These 80 people that were brought into that stadium would not deny the gospel nor Jesus and so they [unclear] killed. But if you do that you will save your life not your physical life you will save your eternal life your soul your spirit that lives forever do you young ones back there understand that have I made it clear yeah you have a spirit in you and that spirit is gonna live forever your body will die but that spirit will live forever and that spirits what’s going to be held accountable on the day of judgment are you with me [unclear] all right.
Scripture in this part
Mark 8:35 (NKJV)
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.
— Mark 8:35 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:03 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What profits a man who gains the world?
Short answer: Mark 8:36: nothing, if he loses his soul. First John 2:16: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life pass away. Teens follow the herd; money, position, fame and lust all tempt.
▶ 15:40 Like I said you can run from persecution you can run from being a martyr but you cannot run from denying Christ you can’t do that and the gospel what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul. First John tells us that all of us in the world the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is what’s in the world and the world passes away but his word endures forever so we want acceptance [unclear] we want to be liked so bad we want the crowd like us especially teens have a tendency to be herders they want to follow a group whether it’s a rock group a movie group [unclear] youth group a gang group they have this thing in them that they got to please some group to be a part to be accepted and then they go into drugs and alcohol and sexual immorality and all the rest it just keeps repeating itself over and over did you teens hear that back there.
▶ 16:52 There was pressure on me in my day to follow the herd I was just created different in the first place nobody was gonna tell me what to do all right just ask my wife. she just told the contractor nobody tells [unclear] what to do that means I’m gonna do right [unclear] no matter what you know and when they try to initiate me into a gang or [unclear] me to do things I just said no I’m not going [unclear] in a community where everybody was part of a group don’t be a herder young people follow Christ get into his herd amen. money they’ll do anything for money lie cheat steal walk over people blame people position they love position they love it in the church.
▶ 17:49 any [unclear] position in the church is just a work description ain’t nothing for you to gloat about a minister is a servant good grief you’re serving everybody it’s a Job description you know a pastor is a Job description he’s a feeder of the flock it’s not some title whoo. yeah I’m [unclear] yeah it’s a job description it means you’ve committed to do a work to do a Job are you there but we love these titles don’t we. Fame oh I’ve seen so many young people in the name of I’m gonna be a musician I seen it over and over and over only 1% of musicians ever make it but there are gonna be the one and they give themselves to music [unclear] secular music hoping to be some rock star country star or whatever.
▶ 18:49 And they lose their life oh. They still claim they’re a Christian but they’re not. They’re not followers of Christ. and releasing your lust we want to get drunk we want to get high you know we want to have sex when we want to have sex with who we want to have sex with if it [unclear] a man a man woman a woman transsexual you know all this stuff you know they just want to do it and he said if you gain the whole world now you’re gonna lose your own soul that’s the eternal part then he says and what shall a man give in exchange for his soul he already told us what we could give in exchange for his soul remember if we deny our own interest lay aside our own interest our own distractions our own fears our own doubts our own [unclear] if we lay it down and we die daily follow Christ we [unclear] what get eternal life amen.
Scripture in this part
Mark 8:36-37 (NKJV)
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
— Mark 8:36-37 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:56 (quoted; reference not named in the message)1 John 2:16-17 (NKJV)
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
— 1 John 2:16-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:04 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Can anyone buy redemption?
Short answer: Psalm 49:6–8: none can redeem his brother or give God a ransom. Only the precious blood of Christ redeems—not your church or works.
▶ 19:55 Am I perfect today no but I’m dying daily to get there that’s eternal life amen. You guys understand that this is really an important message this is a basic message of the Bible now in Psalms 49:6 he says it plainly they that trust and boast in their wealth none can by any means redeem their brother nor give to God a ransom for him that he should live forever and not see corruption. All right now just read the shaded area with me all right this is a very powerful statement none can redeem nor give a ransom.
▶ 20:47 that he should live forever. there is nothing you can do people to deserve that redemption. That’s what it says you can’t buy it with money you can’t buy it with works. you can’t buy [unclear] your life for your denomination. the only way you can be redeemed forever. he says in the next line for the redemption of their soul is [unclear] remember I told you to remember this word precious what was it back there the precious priceless blood of Jesus Christ foreordained before the world was created that is the only thing that can ever redeem it always has been and always will be because he uses the term forever eternally there’s no other way to be redeemed your church can’t redeem you.
Scripture in this part
Psalm 49:6-8 (NKJV)
Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him— For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever—
— Psalm 49:6-8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 20:15What if we are ashamed of Jesus?
Short answer: Mark 8:38: whoever is ashamed of him and his words in this adulterous generation, he will be ashamed of when he comes in glory.
▶ 21:59 your little prayer group [unclear] your little herd group can’t redeem you only a person that can redeem you is Jesus Christ through his death and all you have to do is accept it and start following isn’t that powerful yeah. These people that offer you life any other way are lying to you now. Continuing with this chapter whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words and the word here is logos remember logos is the written word rhema is the revealed word the written word becomes a revealed word here you cannot be ashamed of the written word. Think on that.
▶ 22:51 You got no excuse because it hadn’t been revealed yet alright in this sexually immoral and sinful lawless generation are we in America in a sexually immoral and Bible lawless generation yes wasn’t like that when I was a kid. Really it wasn’t like that at all but it is now now let me explain. Ashamed is to be embarrassed or be afraid to stand up for Jesus and the Bible the written word. For any reason whether you want to be liked whether you want to be accepted whether you want a Job to get big money or whatever if you’re ashamed of him and his written word in this adulterous generation he’s going to be ashamed of you when he comes the second time in the glory of his father with the holy angels to judge and folks if he’s ashamed of you you’re not going to get in he is the mediator.
Scripture in this part
Mark 8:38 (NKJV)
For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
— Mark 8:38 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:28 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What if healing hasn’t worked for you?
Short answer: Stand on the written word anyway. His mother prayed for healing for decades; in her sixties her grapefruit-sized tumor shrank away—a miracle.
▶ 24:04 [unclear]. now. Let me try to get you to understand the logos we have taught you that these signs shall follow them that believe. in my name they will cast out devils in my name they will speak in new languages in my name they will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover you know right now that might not be revealed to you yet but because it is the written word you stand on it. Because that written word was revealed to the prophets that wrote it it is a revealed word through the ones that wrote the message and here it’s Jesus Christ himself are you with me now you.
▶ 25:02 may never run into a demon to cast it out you may run into a demon and find out you can’t cast it out because you haven’t put in enough prayer and fasting to do it because the Bible says demons come out by prayer and fasting you got to be prepared [unclear] so you never run into a demon does that mean you don’t believe in demons and believe that that believers can cast them out no you believe it because it’s what written in the Bible. You accept it though you haven’t experienced it so you come across a demon and you find out you can’t cast him out because you couldn’t cast him out do you change the Bible well you know it’s not for us no you keep the written word though you haven’t attained that level you believe and you accept that level even though you’re not there at that level is that an amen that’s the logos the written word and you lay hands on people and pray for them and none of them get healed in fact some of them died.
▶ 26:20 Do you say well healings and miracles are not for today you know it’s not for today no you stand on the written word though it isn’t working for you you stand on the written word is that clear I’ll use my mom for an example she believed in healing since the 50s she’d pray for us every little thing we got none of us ever got healed. but from the time I was a kid to the time I was a grown up man and [unclear] prayed for you and then in her sixties she got cancer they opened her up and she had the tumor the size of a grapefruit and that tumor had grown into the liver they can’t cut into the liver that will kill her so they sent her [unclear] home to die she took one dose of chemotherapy and radiation and says man this is killing me too I’ll just I’m ready to go I’ll just die well.
▶ 27:26 Every month when she went into the doctor the x-ray showed that that tumor kept shrinking. Every month it kept shrinking kept shrinking kept shrinking kept shrinking a year later that doctor told her Mrs. Kincer that tumor is gone you have a miracle this is absolutely something beyond medical science. She finally got the revealed word when she was 60 some years old and she died at 84 oh yeah and that was because of a doctor’s mistake or she’d probably still be walking around amen yeah. Do you understand though you haven’t experienced the written word you stand on it because it was revealed to the writer.
Scripture in this part
Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
— Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:18 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What did the disciples leave?
Short answer: Mark 10:28–29: houses, family and lands—temporarily, to preach. They didn’t abandon families or give everything away; Peter kept his house, boat and wife.
▶ 28:29 hallelujah do you get that isn’t that powerful. So. The first gospel commitment reward is eternal life okay the rewards of the gospel continued here in Mark 10:28 okay we’re gonna follow this chapter very powerful very powerful statements by Christ Peter said we have left all and followed you wow. You see he asked us to deny and lay aside our own interest our own affairs and all that Peter said we’d done it wow.
▶ 29:10 [unclear] that’s saying something now we got to understand what left all is what did they leave well thank God the next verse is here because Jesus is going to explain the things that they left that count you see I grew up I told you in a generation where they put all their faith in faith I also grew up in a generation where poverty is spirituality oh man they read that thing that Jesus said you got to sell all you have and give it to the poor and follow me they didn’t balance it out with if a man doesn’t provide for himself and his own family’s worse than an unbeliever how many know you got to take the whole [unclear] are you with me you can’t take one little scripture out of the Bible and build a church on it or a doctrine on [unclear] you got to look at everything so.
▶ 30:07 What did they leave thank God he explained Jesus is going to explain what they left and here it is Jesus answered no man that has left houses brothers sisters father mother wife children or lands he says he recognized what they had to leave. To follow him now house is exactly what it is this is a house this is where you have food stored this is where you eat this is where you have your clothing washing and places for your clothing this is where you take care of your sick kids and so forth it is a house amen. Then he talks about the whole family and [unclear] wife in italics because it’s not in this verse but it’s in the other gospels okay the marriage the kids our mothers and fathers.
▶ 31:06 The home is something that can cause serious problems for you all right and they left their houses they left their family to go and sleep on the cold earth with Jesus Christ to get the gospel out you understand do you understand all right they didn’t abandon their family they didn’t abandon their home. They didn’t abandon their children all right they didn’t give away their valuables to the poor. Do you understand. this unbalanced [unclear] word the people preached and people believe is destroying lives not helping them all right so.
▶ 32:00 [unclear] Peter had to leave his house leave his business of fishing and go preach the gospel with Christ and literally slept on a cold ground when he had a nice comfortable home back there. Now you also got to understand that Peter had a house he didn’t give it up Peter had a boat wow. Peter was obviously prosperous to be able to own a boat Peter had a wife. Are you there he didn’t give up anything did he he didn’t abandon them he just had to leave them temporarily to go on preaching trips. we know that Andrew and Matthew had a house in the Bible and there’s no word in the Bible that said any [unclear] the other apostles didn’t have a house it doesn’t say they abandoned their family [unclear] their house they gave up everything to follow Christ it says they left them behind [unclear] to go do something then they came back to their house.
Scripture in this part
Mark 10:28-29 (NKJV)
Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s,
— Mark 10:28-29 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:291 Timothy 5:8 (NKJV)
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
— 1 Timothy 5:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 29:47 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What about family members who reject Christ?
Short answer: The blind man’s parents feared expulsion; David’s wife and sons turned on him; Lot’s sons-in-law laughed. It’s not us abandoning them; they abandon us.
▶ 33:19 isn’t that liberating yes. Now. The parents of the blind man that was healed when the church authorities brought him in and says did Jesus heal your boy because they had been told if you confess Jesus you’ll be put out of the synagogue those parents says you asked him he’s of age why they were afraid they didn’t lay aside their fear they’d rather be a Jew and go to the synagogue than acknowledge that Jesus Christ healed their son and that he was the messiah the anointed one so they left Christ but their boy didn’t he stood up to those church leaders and says what this guy healed me and you don’t know who he is well what’s with you guys.
▶ 34:16 Are you there. Alleluia now. we know David’s first wife divorced him married another man and had kids [unclear] king David a prophet a priest and a king his wife left him folks when your spouse leaves you Jesus is telling you there’s still hope for you when your children leave you Jesus is telling you there’s still hope for you as we’re going to see in the next verse. these things happen and I know and when children when your parents neglect you reject you and mistreat you Jesus himself said the church will pick you up.
▶ 35:10 When the parents forsake the child the Lord will take them up and he has to do that through his church so the church has to be compassionate and involved for God to use us to help people through their persecutions and problems is that a true statement yeah we can’t be just fans in the stand we can’t be looky-loos we’ve got to be involved. David’s own sons turned against him and tried to kill him and take his throne. David’s own sons. See that’s why Jesus brought all this out if you’re gonna follow me there’s other people that [unclear] gonna follow even in your family and they’re gonna cause you trouble.
▶ 36:05 it’s not us abandoning it’s them rejecting do you understand. We pursue Christ. Eli’s sons did they reject Eli’s message and the word of God yeah his own [unclear] Lot. Who had an angel come to visit and he went to his two daughters that had married men in Sodom and the men laughed at Lot and said you got to be joking [unclear] from heaven gonna destroy Sodom you got to be joking and his daughter stayed with their husbands see who you marry is important their daughters should have left their husband and pursued the angel sent by God is that an amen this family [unclear] can be overdone.
▶ 37:05 When your family makes a decision that’s going to bring destruction to your life you need to follow the messenger of God is that a good amen don’t use that family [unclear] to do wrong it’s not you abandoning them they’re abandoning you in the pursuit of God now Lot’s own wife left her home left her valuables left the fields she left everything to follow and then on the way she turned back and went back to Sodom and she died and Lot had to decide to follow his wife or to follow the messenger of God and he chose to follow God with his other two daughters and they were saved and his wife was killed in the judgment are you there [unclear] doesn’t that make this thing clear see we’re not abandoning family we’re not giving our stuff to the poor so we can say we’re spiritual when we got to provide for our kids if we got to provide for ourselves isn’t that right.

John 9:20-23 (NKJV)
His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself.” His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
— John 9:20-23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:47 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Psalm 27:10 (NKJV)
When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me.
— Psalm 27:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 35:12 (quoted; reference not named in the message)Is fleeing cowardly?
Short answer: No. The early church owned houses and fled persecution as Jesus said. Owning houses and investments is fine.
▶ 38:19 It’s the attitude that God’s looking for these guys so far haven’t left anything have they but they did temporarily leave to go preach the gospel and do God’s will and that’s what we got to do daily you know we mess up we got to get up isn’t that right lay down our opinions lay down our fears and our doubts and walk with God now remember. In the book of acts the early church went from house to house the believers all had houses. Are you there. Lands is an investment everybody up to just a couple hundred years ago or a hundred some years ago they might have worked the Job but they had a little garden that they supplemented you know the family’s income my dad was like that you know we had an acre or two and he plowed it we took care of it and we had food canned for the winter from that little garden they were poor folks we had to do everything we could to exist that’s the way it was now we’re dependent on [unclear] everybody else doing all the work and we just go to the grocery store and get it if we had to slaughter our own cow and cut it up we didn’t know what to do we would faint at the blood.
▶ 39:52 That’s what I call investment there’s nothing wrong with investment there’s nothing wrong with owning houses you notice he used houses plural more than one house all right there’s nothing wrong with that there’s nothing wrong with that at all now. But when persecution came what did the church in Jerusalem do they ran because Jesus had said [unclear] when they persecute [unclear] flee to another they knew the scripture it ain’t no time to stand there and be a martyr you got kids to raise you can’t take your house above your life it is best to run for your life take your family somewhere else where you can raise them up and start all over again are you with me are you with me alleluia running is not being a coward here it’s being wise all right now.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 10:23 (NKJV)
When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
— Matthew 10:23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 40:17 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What is the second reward?
Short answer: Mark 10:30: a hundredfold now in this time—houses, family and lands—with persecution. God can restore what following cost you.
▶ 40:48 Then he adds this statement you leave these things for my sake and the gospel’s it’s got to be for a good cause it can’t be because of your bad lifestyle you’re an alcoholic you’re taking drugs and you’re destroying the home and you’re a wimp parent or whatever you know and then you’re being mocked at and laughed at and criticized you brought it on but when you do this for Christ’s sake and the gospel’s. This is what he said you will receive a hundred times now in this present time anything that it cost you you’re divorced he will restore you and he’ll find you another spouse. Your kids go astray and they reject you he will come and bless you are you there.
▶ 41:47 Job he lost all of his kids didn’t he did God restore him back yes. Hallelujah. all because they leave [unclear] these things less important to follow Christ God comes and said I’m gonna give you back everything it cost you in this present time now on this earth are you getting this church now not tomorrow now houses brethren sisters mothers children and lands with persecution. So a Lot of our children can be restored if we keep pursuing. hallelujah now your spouse if they left and married someone else you know that can’t be that can’t be back but he’ll bring you a better one that’s his promise your life isn’t over because your spouse left you.
Scripture in this part
Mark 10:30 (NKJV)
who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
— Mark 10:30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 40:48 (quoted; reference not named in the message)What persecution should we expect?
Short answer: Mockery and guilt trips: “married to the church,” “hypocrites,” “holier than thou.” Second Timothy 3:12: all who live godly shall suffer persecution.
▶ 42:50 Your life isn’t over because your children reject you he said you pursue me I will give you you’ll receive a hundredfold now in this present world isn’t that just powerful ah. That’s exciting all of you should have a great smile on your face [unclear] God is gonna fix me up. But here is the part we don’t want to hear he’s gonna do all that. But you’re gonna be mistreated. When you pursue me you’re going to be mistreated by your own family. Are you there by others.
▶ 43:48 [unclear] I’ve heard it all I’ve been called [unclear] because I wanted to pursue Christ in the gospel I’ve been called a fanatic I have been taken to court twice. for my beliefs and [unclear] actually in court they called me a fanatic in court and all this stuff are you there. You’re married to the church. I’m married to the church I’m married to my wife and I’m responsible for my kids but if you want to say I have a commitment to the church I do God is building a spiritual house his church and he places every member in and we are to care one for another yes I have a responsibility to love and care for the people of God even if I’m not a pastor and this.
▶ 44:50 Is the real one this is the real one you put the church [unclear] while they’re putting other things above the family trying to get you in a guilt trip. the church is full of hypocrites why I want to go there you ever heard that one we’re not hypocrites we’re people trying to grow into the image of Christ amen a hypocrite is saying one thing and doing another we have problems that we have to keep giving corrected but we’re not hypocritical about it we’re just honest I got to grow I got to deny myself today [unclear] I didn’t deny myself today I made a mistake I got to repent and turn from that deny myself amen that’s not being a hypocrite.
▶ 45:55 They’ll point out any fault you got man if you got a fault they’re going to come after you with claws like a lion tear you apart and they got flaws you know the Bible says get the tree out of your own eye before you get the toothpick out of your brother’s eye. They can’t see that they got problems they only see that you got them you better correct them and they’re not correcting their problems. Are you with me I’ve experienced all this stuff all right. Holier than thou oh you think you’re better than everybody [unclear] you think you’re the only one that can interpret the word I’ve heard it all.
▶ 46:48 They attack you because they don’t want to follow and they want to make you feel guilty for following are you there my wife Rebecca [unclear] I always went to third world countries once a year and every time she would tell our two boys we don’t want daddy to leave and we’re gonna miss him but this is what he does I mean oh that is a great attitude and when I went to third world countries I wouldn’t call her I wouldn’t communicate because I love my wife and I love my kids and if I’d have communicated it would have made my stay there much harder if I kept busy and kept my mind off my home and my wife I could handle it and I could only handle it for two weeks I found out that third week was no good one time I went for three weeks too many tests too many homesick things issues.
▶ 47:47 after that two weeks is my limit you may handle it longer but me I want to get back to my woman I want to get back to my kids. Amen and she accepted that that I didn’t even call [unclear] I mean can you imagine being a third world country and then you talk to somebody you love and they put the kids on the phone then you want to get on a plane if you’re like me you’d get on a plane get back are you there now [unclear] but other ones would have said you’re married to the church you put the church before the family that is nothing but guilt trips because they don’t want to serve God pursue him. 2nd Timothy 3:12 all that live godly in Jesus Christ shall what suffer persecution.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 7:3-5 (NKJV)
And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
— Matthew 7:3-5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 46:13 (quoted; reference not named in the message)2 Timothy 3:12 (NKJV)
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
— 2 Timothy 3:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 48:35Who opposes the church, and why the sword?
Short answer: He names several groups and their influence in public schools. Matthew 10:34–36: Jesus brings peace but also a sword—a man’s foes are of his own household. Galatians 4:16: telling the truth makes enemies.
▶ 48:44 the whole [unclear] thing gets down to you pursue God and you want to do things right and you want to follow truth and they don’t so they’re going to mistreat you verbally abuse you and attack you alright this is for my sake in the gospel the people in America that are persecuting the church are the same-sex group the homosexual they have got their doctrine in the public schools even down to kindergarten teaching kids who shouldn’t even be taught about sex that homosexuality. same-sex is okay and transsexuals and all the rest the next group is the atheist the atheists are a religion because when they say they don’t believe in God that made him a religion a Supreme Court said you are a religion if you didn’t really believe in God and God didn’t exist you wouldn’t have to address the issue you know [unclear] when you got to tear down God that makes you a religion and the.
▶ 49:45 Atheists are against us the humanists the religion of secular humanism they said we’re going to take our doctrine our manifesto to the public schools and there we’re going to win the battle against the rotting corpse of christianity that’s what they said right in their manifesto and that’s exactly what they did and that’s why we’re here today they are brainwashing our kids in public schools and people that [unclear] grew up in public schools say well I don’t have any problem they don’t even understand that their mind has been tainted and they can’t see it [unclear] religion of secular humanism that is a group of people that believe that humans can solve their own problem without God all right they have a manifesto you can read it you can get on internet you can read it and the words are in it that I just told you the rotting corpse of christianity we’re going to defeat them in the public school did that help some of you other ones you know I take a Lot of these things for granted because I’ve been studying them for years but secular humanism is a big movement in America and it is a religion they call themselves the religion of secular humanism all right and the whole thing is man can solve their own problems we don’t need God and so they tear down God.
▶ 51:05 religionists is next religionists are like I told you before the Mormons and the Muslims. When you come up with a Revelation or a doctrine that opposes the gospel you just became a religion they both have this fantasy about being married in heaven when Jesus Christ said in this world you marry and are given in marriage but in the world to come they are neither married nor given in marriage they’re as the angels Jesus Christ himself said that and yet they come up with a doctrine that you can be married in heaven and have seven virgins or something in heaven for your pleasure which is ridiculous [unclear] if all God can do is give us women in heaven what in the world’s all this about and what if you were the woman.
▶ 52:00 I’m going to heaven. To pleasure that bum. There’s no logic. Are you with me. That’s a religionist see when you come up with a man-made doctrine that opposes the gospel that makes you a religion is when you say Jesus wasn’t born of a virgin that makes you a religion because [unclear] contradicts [unclear] already written. liberals and progressives that is a secret word for socialism. Do you guys understand that that is a secret word because America rejects socialism socialism was one step down from communism socialism the government runs businesses in communism.
▶ 52:55 The government owns the business everything property everything and both of them are adverse to christianity the communists have killed more people than any other group the atheists. Communists are atheist all right and they hate christianity they hate the Bible and this is happening and then the evolutionist. They oppose the Bible and they took it to the public schools like the humanists did and the liberals did okay [unclear] and the same-sex people they took it to the public schools [unclear] taint your kids’ thinking and they got them five days a week and then you got them a few hours in the evening and let me tell you that constant brainwashing a Lot of us that went through public schools are tainted with teaching that they shouldn’t be teaching because the public schools should teach truth not lies and not [unclear] they shouldn’t be telling us about sex in public school that’s none of their business that is the home’s responsibility isn’t that true that’s the parents’ responsibility they shouldn’t be telling us what’s immoral and not moral if they don’t use the Bible they should let the home decide what’s moral and immoral for their kids and when somebody thinks they’re moral and they hurt someone the law is there to punish that person and protect the community.
▶ 54:30 Matthew 10:34 I came not to send peace on the earth but a sword no you see this is why you got to know the whole gospel he did come to send peace he’s called the prince of peace [unclear] yeah the introduction to Christ being born peace on earth goodwill toward men right he did come to bring peace he don’t want you struggling with God’s spirit oh [unclear] you struggling in your home he come to bring peace but he also is saying here I also come to bring a sword a sword as a weapon of war. To fight the enemy and then he explains what the enemy is I’m come to set [unclear] a man against his father daughter against her mother daughter in law against the mother-in-law a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. See he explains clearly where the sword is going to be at and why because one member of the family wants to pursue Jesus and follow Jesus and the other one doesn’t [unclear] the same way you know you heard that statement by the group.
▶ 55:43 pigs-in-a-blanket [unclear] like bacon or something like that these are the things that our military and our police officers have to face they’re mocked that is the Christian life when we come to Christ we put our life on the line and people that don’t want to do that are going to mock you mistreat you and attack you and every way they can to bring you down to their level you got it. Galatians 4 [unclear] am I now your enemy because I tell you the truth is Jesus the way the truth and the life when we follow him are we following truth when we speak the gospel are we speaking truth that’s what they don’t like they don’t want to hear truth.
▶ 56:37 They want to be accepted. With their belief. Even if it goes against God’s and so they’re gonna attack you they’re gonna laugh at you they’re gonna mock you they’re gonna come after you and they’re going to separate from you if you don’t agree with them they’re gonna run from you. When my family members stand up and speak something that’s ridiculous I stand up and speak the opposite of that ridiculousness I speak the truth they don’t like it they shouldn’t open their mouth in the first place if they’re gonna propagate and tell the rest of my family things are not true I’m going to stand up at the same time and tell them what is truth. Is that fair absolutely I can’t have my other family members distracting my present family members by their wild beliefs and lifestyle and if they want to come over and respect my house and keep their mouth shut that’s fine but if they want to propagate their doctrine that’s lies they’re going to hear from me and he repeats the first reward is eternal life and the house family Job and investments now in this life is your second reward with persecution whether you like it or not people are going to mistreat you.
▶ 58:09 So are you willing to pay the cost this morning. Are you willing to commit to following Jesus Christ. that can be your most important choice after you believed and accepted him is to follow him very important to you young ones understand that just believing in Christ is not good enough if you want success and you want to prosper both naturally and spiritually you got to follow [unclear] in spite of your friends in spite of your family you got to follow okay and you got to expect to be mistreated. Children can be mistreated by their parents parents can be mistreated by their children a husband [unclear] mistreated by his wife and vice versa and so forth you got it we don’t abandon our valuables we don’t abandon our investments that’s not what Christ is talking about he’s talking about laying aside your interest and pursue him and do it daily.
