After pledges for Independence Day weekend, the God’s Rest series concludes: the rest that remains is ceasing from our own works and our own way. Learn God’s ways, choose godly partners, and take Jesus’ easy yoke. Like Simon, let Jesus into your boat, listen to His teaching, and launch out into the deep at His word.

What were the songs about?

▶ Watch this part (0:11)

Short answer: God’s rest resting on us; we are the temple of the living God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:11 We’ve been talking about God’s rest and uh going through a lesson this morning and these songs you know I didn’t realize it but they all are talking about God’s rest God resting on us it’s important that we understand that we are the temple of the living God and and uh you know the body that God has given you he’s created you with a body it’s important that we take care of it it’s important that we not defile it amen it’s it’s his and uh it’s important that we accept the identities that God has created us with God has created us men and women male and female boys and girls he’s imparted into us his own own identities before you the kids go um I would like in honor of independence day for us to stand for the pledge of allegiance and uh.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

2 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV)

And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

Why recite pledges?

▶ Watch this part (1:14)

Short answer: He recalls school pledges and leads the pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag and the Bible, honoring those who died defending freedom; we pledge to follow the Bible for morals.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:14 Growing up in school every morning we would do the pledge of allegiance and we would do it to to the American flag the Christian flag and to the Bible and so I’d like to take some time and just give honor to our uh our country and to the folk the people that gave their lives defending our freedom amen so will you join with me and stand in respect and let’s put our hand over our heart and let’s say this together I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. To the Christian flag I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag and to the savior for whose kingdom it stands one savior crucified risen and coming again with life and liberty for all who.

▶ 2:22 Believe and lastly to the Bible I pledge allegiance to the Bible God God’s holy word I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path I will hide its words in my heart so that I might not sin against God thank you very much those pledges are so. Important uh because you’re pledging you’re promising you’re saying I’m going to make a promise and pledge to commit I’m committing to something pledge to the Bible pledged to make it our our our book that we follow not other books uh if we want to find out what morals are we don’t go to uh the college and say hey what’s the what are morals no we come to God and we say what are your morals how should I live my life and he has made it clear in the scriptures.

What rest remains?

▶ Watch this part (3:23)

Short answer: More than rest from enemies: there remains a rest for the people of God, ceasing from our own works.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 3:23 Thankfully we’re going to be talking about God’s rest and uh we left off in Hebrews chapter 4 verse 8 I have lesson sheets that they are at home on the printer so you’re going to have to pull out a piece of paper or a phone and write some notes and you can note down the scriptures and whatnot or you can listen to it after and review it in Hebrews chapter 4:8-10 it says if Joshua had given them rest he would not after have spoken of another day so there remains therefore a rest for the people of God so it’s not just rest from your enemies and rest uh you know let’s say America we haven’t really had an enemy attacking us right but that’s not what it’s all about and that’s what they experienced uh in in overtaking and and and getting overtaking the Canaanites and all of the ies that were there and u actually getting a land that God promised them that God gave to them but it’s not just about that kind of rest it’s also more than that for he who has entered his rest has himself also ceased from his works cease from his works I have a very famous singer up here my aunt uh my great aunt my Father’s.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Hebrews 4:8-10 (NKJV)

For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

— Hebrews 4:8-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:23

Whose way are we following?

▶ Watch this part (4:49)

Short answer: He plays his great aunt’s favorite, Frank Sinatra’s My Way, but we serve God; people whose hearts go astray haven’t known His ways.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 4:49 Great aunt yeah this was her favorite singer and she would she said that she bumped into him one time at a dance and she was like who’s that str. And uh this is one of her favorite songs my way and uh let’s. See see if it comes through here. Oh gosh I pressed the wrong button I’m. Sorry oh. Boy and so.

▶ 5:55 Here in Psalms 95 says for 40 years I was angry with that generation there are people whose hearts go astray they have not known my ways and that’s what frankie is talking about here he’s talking about he lived his life. So when I was thinking about my way that was the song that I thought of the most so okay let’s get Frankie out of there my way Frank did it his way but we don’t serve Frank Sinatra we serve who we serve God so we want to know what is God’s way as the scripture says these are people whose heart go astray they have not known what my ways everybody has their own ways I have my own ways we have our own ways and God has his own ways and so the question is whose ways are we going to take on and follow so important for us to recognize that and also what does this mean cease from his own works uh entering God’s rest is when we stop doing things uh

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 95:10 (NKJV)

For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’

— Psalm 95:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:55

What are God’s ways?

▶ Watch this part (7:27)

Short answer: God is not a man that He should lie; work, leave vengeance to God, avoid the love of money and the works of the flesh.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 7:27 our own way and we learn his way ways we got to cease our old behaviors cease the old way that we used to talk and the old way we used to. Act. Amen what are some of God’s ways Numbers chapter 23:19 God is not a man that he should lie God is not a liar right but this is some of the you know we lie all the time. Amen uh Romans chapter 8:28 all things God works for the good of those who love him remember in the scriptures in Genesis God worked how many days six days and on the seventh he rested and God right now is working and he’s doing things up in heaven he’s working why do we think we don’t have to work we think we don’t have to work in the natural we think we don’t have to work in the spiritual things you know God’s up there so we just like you we sit down in the the natural chair at home we don’t go to work we don’t provide for our family we think that’s spiritual no not at all and the same way in the spiritual you’re going to sit at home and just sleep through the alarm and not get up and worship and praise God that’s work and you just get up and say oh God’s going to do everything for.

▶ 8:54 Me God can do all the work no no no no that’s not the right perspective we’ve got to do we have a part in this amen 2 Thessalonians 3:10 the one who is unwilling to work should not. Eat uh it’s important for us to work Romans 12:19 do not take revenge my dear friends but leave room for God’s wrath it is written it is mine to avenge says the Lord people want to take vengeance themselves that’s his way he is in charge of that not us is not our job to take vengeance if somebody wronged you it’s not your job to take vengeance on them and that’s not to say if somebody comes up and wants to kill you that you can’t defend yourself that’s a whole different story but you know people wrong each other all the time we hurt each other’s feelings this all that and you know you can you have a choice are you going to take revenge or are you going to handle it in a mature way 1 Timothy 6:10 for the love of money is of all kinds of evil loving money and then we have in Galatians 5:19 all of the acts of the flesh all of the the ways of humans not just you know we feel that we are unique in our own ways but really these are the things that people have been doing for uh thousands of years so it’s important that we learn God’s way and apply it to our lives and that implies

— Galatians 5:19-21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:54

What is our part?

▶ Watch this part (10:25)

Short answer: Put God’s word into you and be diligent to enter that rest.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 10:25 putting God’s word into you and deciding to apply his ways to your life if you want to learn God’s ways you’ve got to hear what the scriptures say amen that word has got to get into you you can’t just say oh I’m going to follow God’s ways well what are God’s ways it’s in the word it’s in the Bible. Um the acts of the flesh are obvious sexual immorality impurity devouty idolatry. Witchcraft hatred it says in the scriptures that rebellion as is as the sin as witch of witchcraft you know when we sc off God we rebel against God it’s like witchcraft hatred discord we uh cause division between people uh in the church and in you know maybe in your business or whatever jealousy fits of rage selfish ambition dissensions we cause we we try to stir people up against toward against one another factions envy drunkenness intoxication ories and the like that’s not uh uh that’s not behaviors of the kingdom of God those are not God’s ways and you’re not going to be entering God’s rest in fact you’re going to be uh disinherited from the kingdom of God you won’t be able to enter.

▶ 11:42 In Hebrews chapter 4:11 let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience and disbelief so we have a responsibility to do work to be diligent means to work it means you have to take some action action. Uh we have to learn God’s ways and work to follow God’s. Ways in 2 Corinthians chapter 6 we’re going to be talking about God’s yoke and uh first in in 6:14 2 Corinthians it talks about another yoke says do not be yolked together with unbelievers for what does what do righteousness and wickedness have in common what fellowship can light have with darkness so this is one of the first decisions you have to make in your life who are you going to partner partner yourself with are you going to be partnering with people of the kingdom of darkness and you’re trying to follow God they’re going to be pulling you see this donkey here he’s pulling the ox the other way and this little thing here that’s his his hoof he’s kicking the ax like hey that’s what donkeys do they kick this way this way and so you have to decide what uh who are you partnering partnering with in your teenage life who who are you partnering with in your friends with your friends your family you know there’s there’s a way to handle relationships where they don’t

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Hebrews 4:11 (NKJV)

Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

— Hebrews 4:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:42

Who are you partnering with?

▶ Watch this part (13:13)

Short answer: Entering God’s rest depends on partners; his wife’s first requirement was that he served God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 13:13 take control of you and influence you in a certain way. Right. Um entering God’s rest has a lot to do with who you are partnering with and so this can happen in marriage or in friendships and you can you you must decide when you’re looking for a a spouse when you get older and you’re looking for someone are you going to find somebody who’s not serving God you know that’s the first number one requirement and that was the requirement that my wife had for me are you serving God are you doing what’s right no. And uh it’s very important you want to be walking toward the same goal we want I’m walking toward God I want to serve God I’m headed toward that way and I want to walk with somebody who’s headed that way amen so it’s very important how how we make our decisions in life uh.

What is Jesus’ invitation?

▶ Watch this part (14:17)

Short answer: Come to Me, all who labor, and I will give you rest; if anyone thirsts, come and drink.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 14:17 Yes Matthew 11:28 God’s rest God’s yoke come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you what rest so we’re talking about this other rest that Hebrews is referring to Jesus Christ this is red letters should be red letters I don’t know who made this presentation but they should have put red letters on here going have to talk to the office staff I’m joking I made it come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest are you coming to Jesus have you you made time to come to his house have you made time to come come to him on your knees to come to his word these are the things we can come to all right he doesn’t have an address in the in the earth today uh maybe he does maybe it’s right here right now amen he’s got houses all.

▶ 15:18 Over we got to come to him coming to his house his church is part of coming to him coming to his word is part of coming to him coming to h your knees in prayer and giving thanks and praise is coming to. Christ and he has rest for. Us John 7:37 on the last day that great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried out saying if anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink uh it goes on to say in in the next verse he who believes in me as the scriptures have said out of his heart will flow rivers of living. Water and he spoke this concerning the Spirit whom those believing in him would receive the Holy Spirit was not yet given so Jesus is saying if anyone thirst let him what come to me so not only is he going to help with your load in life but he’s also offering a drink here called the Holy Spirit that is those two things together it’s powerful you have Christ and you have uh the Holy Spirit with you there’s nothing that’s going to stop you it’s a powerful.

▶ 16:41 Powerful um package that Jesus has for you as a Christian Revelation 22:17 the spirit and the bride say come and let all and let him who hears say come and let him who thirsts come whoever desires let him take the water of life freely Christ Jesus in the end at the end of all things this is still the thing that he’s offering the world he’s offering life he’s offering his spirit he’s offering himself and uh I just want to point out real quick in John. 7:37 it was the last day of the feast and it says it was the last that great day of the feast okay so Jesus is at a feast and they’re having a big feast and it’s the last day of the feast and he gets up and he says this statement if anyone thirsts let him come to me okay now Revelations.

▶ 17:44 2217 uh the second coming is referred to as the last day the uh in Revelations is also called the marriage supper of the lamb right you’ve heard that before right so there’s a great feast at the end and it’s the last day so here God Jesus is doing something here in John 7:37 but also at the end he is speaking and fort telling of what’s going to happen at the end at the end it’s the same message if anyone thirst come to Jesus and whoever desires let him take the water of life freely it’s the same message and it’s for the it was for them 2,000 years ago it’s for us today and it will be for whoever is at the end it’s available to us from from from now to eternity from now to the end we have access to this water of life so important and so powerful I remember in the lessons past we talked about if I only knew and that’s what we’re letting you know today you have access to the water of life Jesus Christ if you are willing to what come to Christ come to the spirit of God.

What is our labor?

▶ Watch this part (19:04)

Short answer: Seeking satisfaction in sin is a heavy load, like alcohol and woe; there remains a rest for God’s people.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 19:04 Matthew 11:28 all you who labor and are heavy laden come to me all you who labor in heavy laden I will give you rest what is our labor in Hebrews chapter 4:10 it’s talking about that labor he who has entered his rest has ceased from his works. Hebrews 12:1 therefore let us lay aside every what weight and the sin which so easily ins snares us so this heavy load here is talking about the weight of sin okay this works this labor that we’re doing is that we’re trying to make life work uh let me let me go a little think I had some notes on this everyone is looking for satisfaction in their life they’re looking for satisfaction in the pleasures of this world and uh.

▶ 20:09 In sin they’re looking for satisfaction and Christ is saying you don’t need the satisfaction of of sin I can feel that need that you have for satisfaction in this life the satisfaction that you’re finding in sin is is a heavy load and hard. Work and I’ve heard many stories if if you have. Uh what is it called resentment if you have if you’re storing some kind of issue with somebody it’s a hard burden to carry if you’re living in sin and you’re you’re you’re hurting your family with intoxication you’re hurting someone through sexual immorality that is a load of sin that is on you it’s going to hurt you it’s going to affect people in your life the diseases that come hiv can come that’s a load the pills that you have to take the drugs that will wreck your body and mind.

▶ 21:18 That’s a load that’s heavy that’s hurts it’s hard the alcohol that won’t last woe to him who lingers long at the glass woe to him. Uh it says in Proverbs woe meaning man who has woes who has sorrows the guy who’s stuck on alcohol the woman it’s a heavy load and that’s what God is saying we it’s time to stop with all of the work of sin it’s time to lay down and let go of this load and uh it’s not just you know we talk about drugs and alcohol we talk about sexual immorality but there’s other ways we can carry a load uh through you know mistreatment toward people there’s there’s other ways you can you can harbor hatred toward one another and that’s not as visible as the other things but it’s just it can be just as heavy to carry.

▶ 22:31 Amen Matthew 11:28 come to me and I will give you rest so this uh Hebrews 4:9 there remains therefore a rest for the people of God this is our rest that we can have we can have a rest for God’s people by coming to Christ and drinking of his Spirit all right so come lay down your load and I will give you rest and then he says in 11:29 take whose yoke my yoke for my yoke is easy and my burden is light and if you don’t know what a yoke is you have this wood that’s going in between the two animals here and there’s a stick that goes down to the the plow right and it they’re both pulling and they’re working together to uh plow the field.

Who carries the yoke?

▶ Watch this part (23:33)

Short answer: Jesus is the big ox; yoked with Him is a much better experience than with darkness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 23:33 So what Jesus is saying I know I showed these these pictures before but you know which one in this would you say is. Jesus which. Animal come on the big one right the big one this is more like what we come at right we you get yoked up to God and and uh we’re like okay God we’re here and he’s like all right just start walking and we’re like okay okay and he’s pulling the load you look back and there’s this big old plow it’s a th000 pounds there’s no way you’re carrying that thing but he can do it why because he is strong amen and when you yoke up with Christ he makes it easy he makes it it’s it’s not easy I’m sorry the other word here is pleasant or were profitable his ways are profitable for your life you’re getting somewhere it may take some time Jesus is walking step by step you’re following him and you’re like good good Jesus can you pick up the pace a little bit no but it’s profitable it’s pleasant it’s light on you he can lift the load that you may have and he can get you plowing the right way it’s it’s important who we partner with amen I guarantee.

What does Simon’s boat show?

▶ Watch this part (25:03)

Short answer: The fishermen prepared; the Lord got into a rickety boat and taught from it, as the church should let Him teach.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 25:03 You if you yoke up with Christ it’s going to be a much better experience than yoking up with the kingdom of darkness I encourage you throw in your lot with Christ his yoke is much easier to bear. Amen and that’s what he’s inviting us to do. We’re going to look at a story in the scriptures in Luke chapter. 5 talking about God’s rest and God’s partnership that we can have Jesus saw two boats drawn up by the lake how many. Two but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets and God is asking us today have you left the church those online I can see those in here have not left the church have you left the church have you given up have you gone away from the boat.

▶ 26:08 Uh but also in another aspect the fisherman had the boat ready it was ready it was drawn up it was uh ready to be taken out they also were washing their nets getting ready for the next time they were going to go out it takes preparation it takes some involvement it takes some work being part of the church but don’t leave it uh the boat is still important Luke 5: three he got into one of the boat which was simon’s and so we have two choices in our lives right we can we decide are we going to get on the boat that Christ is on the kingdom of God or we going to get on our own boat and uh do our own thing and how many you know I I’d rather be on the boat that Jesus is on and so he gets on Simon’s boat and this boat is not anything special it’s not a yacht it’s not a cruise liner it’s not a uh cargo ship out in the the the the bay.

▶ 27:19 Here right it’s just a little wooden rickety old thing and the son of God Jesus Christ the Lord Lord of Lord the king of kings he he gets in this little boat with. Peter he owns the cattle on a thousand hills and he didn’t get on the boat and say gosh I own everything and this is what I’m getting. In and so it’s important to recognize we can’t we can’t look at this church and that church and say oh God’s not in that church they’re not big enough they’re not nice enough uh you know and you go to another country they meet in in the dirt they meet in you know a lean to with dirt and Jesus is there why because Jesus he’s ready to come to whoever is willing to receive him amen isn’t that powerful I think that’s really good he came into Simon’s boat Simon’s boat wasn’t anything special simon wasn’t a mighty man of God he wasn’t some powerful person he’s just a man.

▶ 28:27 Amen he asked him to put out a little from the land and he sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat Jesus wants to. Teach people his word amen and he’s using Simon’s boat and that’s what we got to do we got to allow Jesus in his word to teach people and for people to hear his teaching very important teaching is a very high thing in God’s view. And they’re on the shore they’re on the outskirts of the kingdom of God you know the I like the beach I would go to the beach is I would live at the beach if I could right but the kingdom of God is more in the center if you want to be on the outskirts you’re kind of like you’re kind of like not going in to where the the this throne is and so Jesus is teaching people on the outskirts if you will.

▶ 29:34 And he wants to teach new believers his word uh from the scriptures and it’s important for us as a church to allow him to do that to be a vessel to do that the church is an example of uh I’m sorry the boat is an example of the church just like the ark is an example of the church that had eight members members in the ark if you remember Noah and his sons and his wife and his wife’s his son’s wives. Um and so in your church wherever you’re going it’s important that you invite the son of God into your boat into your church and not only into your boat and in your church but into your life it’s very important the church’s. Message uh the time of worship it should be focused on him that’s that’s the point that we’re getting at when we worship God it’s directed toward Christ it’s not about entertainment or pleasing my own desires I want to get my song out there I want them to hear my music no it’s not about that it’s about who it’s about the son of God the king of kings Lord of lords so important.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 5:1-3 (NKJV)

So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

What came after the teaching?

▶ Watch this part (31:01)

Short answer: Launch out into the deep; at Your word I will let down the net, and the net broke with fish.

▶ 31:01 Luke 5:4 when he had stopped speaking Jesus stopped speaking and when he had stopped teaching what was next he said to Simon Peter he said launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch and it’s important for us we can’t just hear teaching all the time Jesus is saying now okay okay launch out into the deep let down your nets for a catch and that’s the action of being a fisher of men Matthew chapter 4:19 he said to them follow me and I will make you what fishers of men and women okay when we hear when we see this word men here it’s talking about men and women launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch in Proverbs 9:18 it says uh he does not know that the dead are there that her guests are in the depths of hell there’s people living in this world right now that are guests in the depths of hell they’re headed that way they’re headed that place and they don’t have any opportunity until somebody comes around and throws out the net into the deep and says hey I want to give you a chance to accept Christ to follow him.

▶ 32:30 Amen and that’s we have a responsibility to respond to that we have a responsibility to respond to those to respond to those instructions that Christ gave simon and Simon was he was nobody special at this time he wasn’t a mighty man of God he wasn’t calling down fire from heaven Simon Peter was just uh doing his work providing for his home you know he trying to to do what’s right uh later on he said hey Jesus you need depart from me I’m a sinful man you know he’s listening to the teaching that Jesus is preaching on the shore he’s he’s sitting there you know uh this man Jesus comes up say hey can I get in your boat and and Peter’s like okay who are. You but he listens to the teaching he hearing.

▶ 33:29 Everything he’s listening to the teaching of Jesus and Peter is fished many times in his life he’s fished many times and he knows that fishing is is fishing until you catch something that’s why they call it fishing they don’t call it catching they call it. Fishing and he’s gone out there a hundreds of times he’s gone out there many times he’s thrown his net and come back with nothing many. Days okay so let’s see what happens next simon answered he says master we toiled all night and caught nothing I’ve already been out here I’ve been to my spot I went to my place where they normally are I’ve asked the people I got the information I did all this stuff you know I’ve already looked everywhere and Jesus says no he’s Peter says nevertheless at what your word.

▶ 34:25 I will let down the net and when they had done this they caught a great number of fish and their net was breaking and when Peter saw that he’s like man I’ve been all over this place and all of a sudden one net throw with this man who just taught about this stuff and I’ve got the the biggest load I’ve ever had in my life I’ve I’ve got the biggest catch I’ve ever had in my life and he says depart from me for I’m a sinful man because he knew that Jesus was. Uh someone special. Amen so their work wasn’t. Working and they had to get Jesus’s word involved it’s important when we um go out that we’ve got to lean on the word of God Jesus is the Lord of the harvest amen unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain that build it amen we’ve got to make sure Jesus in is in the boat that’s what Peter had he had Jesus in the boat.

▶ 35:38 And we must come to people with the word of God at what your word I will let down the net his word is powerful his word is. Important it was hard work they toiled all night before but when they had Jesus with them when Jesus uh when they did it at his word then it. Happened and so it’s important for us to follow this this small pattern in your daily life you don’t want to go about your life uh trying to make it work all on your own make your christianity work on it somewhere you’ve got to connect you got to make sure Jesus is in your life life you got to make sure that you’re abiding in that word you got to make sure you can’t just serve God and serve God and serve God you got to have God in you.

Luke 5:4-6 (NKJV)

When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

Are you in the boat He’s in?

▶ Watch this part (36:52)

Short answer: Get where Christ is; He sits at the right hand of the Father.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 36:52 Amen so simply we just look back at that example we want to be where Christ is amen he’s going into a boat there were two boats he went into one are you in the one that he’s in right maybe he’s not in something anymore you got to get to where what he’s. In learn from Christ’s teachings Christ wants to teach and we have to have an ear to hear what he has to say and understand it so we can apply it. Matthew. 11:29 come to me all who labor and are heavy lad and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you learn from me not from the world not from uh another voice learn from who me it’s important that we understand the uh that Jesus’s word is is the highest word the highest authority I am gentle or meek and lowly in heart and you will find rest again here he says it again you will find what rest for your soul do you have peace do you have joy do you have hope.

▶ 38:28 Christ the king of kings and the Lord of lords again he is the son of God he’s sitting at the right hand of the father please understand how how powerful God is for a moment please understand how his his position in the in the universe right now he’s sitting at the right hand of the father he’s he’s he’s he and the father are one he’s powerful and he says what I am meek and lowly. Jesus and we see that when he was born he came and he was born in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes he was born you know he didn’t have even a in to be born in he was humble and so if Christ is humble we can be humble. Amen we can be humble.

Who can have this rest?

▶ Watch this part (39:31)

Short answer: God is no respecter of persons; anyone who fears Him is accepted. Don’t replace His word as a Laguna Beach church sign did.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 39:31 Acts chapter 10:34 in closing here Peter opened his mouth and said I perceive that God is not a respecter of persons the rest of God the power of God the drink of the spirit the spirit of God in you having God in you being on the boat with Jesus it’s not just for somebody else it’s not just for the pastor down at the the church next to it’s not just for the pastor that you saw on the youtube channel that has a million views it’s not just for. Them he’s not a what respector of persons pastors and preachers don’t have any we’re not special there’s no magical thing with with us we all have the same. Uh access and responsibility.

▶ 40:27 To respond to his word Jesus is the real pastor he is the real shepherd he is the prophet of prophets he is the head of the church and we all must respond to him it says in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness will be is accepted by him he is not a respecter of persons and all of us have been invited to Jesus all us have been invited to partake of his of his drink all of us have been invited partake of his Spirit and we have to decide are we going.

▶ 41:20 To accept what Christ has to offer or try to replace it with something I was walking. Uh in Laguna Beach I had dropped off the van and I was going to meet the kids and my wife down at the beach and I walked by a church and they had engraved in wood like you know they they made a decision to ro this thing on the board here and uh it said all this stuff and like where is that in the Bible and we’re going to include and we’re going to do this and we’re going to I’m. Like did they learn from me did they learn from Jesus did they learn from the word see that that is not being. Humble. We we hear God’s word and we want to replace it and change it because we think we know better that is pride.

▶ 42:21 Folks that is not humility that is not as we just saw Jesus is what he’s meek and lowly he’s a humble man and he’s humbly giving you these. Words he’s humbly giving us his teaching and we make this decision whether or not we’re going to follow it because we believe we’re better see we have that choice and you have that choice in your life are you going to come and to Jesus and say okay God I want your understanding there’s actually a spirit of understanding seven spirits that candlestand in the tabernacle had how many seven spirits and one of them was. Understanding and you we can get understanding of his word and once you understand that Bible you can you can you can you have to make a decision whether or not you’re going to follow it and apply it we don’t want to change his word.

▶ 1:24:57 We’re reminded many times in the scriptures that we are the temple of a living God and in the past weeks we’ve been talking about his rest and we are his dwelling place and he rests in us and we want him to rest in our lives we want him to go with us wherever we go we want his we want the living God resting in our spirit in our soul so that it affects our tongue it affects uh what we need in our lives know we’re no longer looking for uh an answer from the pleasure this of this world we can find it in him resting in us and that’s what this song is saying there’s a scripture that says that he abides in us and we in him and that is so important for us to have have God resting and abiding in us and that’s a promise that we can have in the new covenant it says that he will be our God and we will be his people he will give us a new heart he’ll put his spirit in us and rest in us so important that we as Christians get to a place where we have that spirit of God resting in us so important.

▶ 1:26:25 And that’s what this song is saying it’s. Powerful let’s sing this chorus one more time and let it be a prayer inviting Christ to come and abide in. You you’re the way the truth and the light you’re the well that never runs dr. I’m the branch and you are the vine draw me close and teach me to. Abide be my strength be my strength my song in the night be my all my treasure my prize I am yours forever you’re mine dra me close and teach me to.

▶ 1:27:30 Abide our God we lift up our voices right now we just pray Lord God that your word would enter us as we listen to it this week that your word would come into us right now as we hear it from the scriptures God Lord that it would impact us that it would change us that it would transform us God oh God you used to have a set of scriptures right next to the ark of the covenant with the presence of God and Lord we pray for that presence to open up our understanding to your word this morning and God Lord as we seek you this week and as we make time for you this week Lord we pray that we would receive that living word into us that gives us life we thank you your precious name everyone said amen.
