This Easter message looks at Jesus’ words on the cross. His cry from Psalm 22 recalled the whole psalm, including “I am a worm,” pointing to the crimson worm that dies to protect its young. Jesus went willingly, and believers partake of Him like daily manna. Through Him we become a new creation free of condemnation.

▶ 0:02 Happy Easter good morning. It’s great to be in God’s house this morning we’d like to welcome you to mountainside ministries and thank you for joining us on facebook. And in the room. The Bible says where two or three are gathered there he is in our midst and on this Easter Sunday morning we are gathered in Jesus name amen we’re going to begin this morning with the scripture reading ms stephanie is going to share. I’ll hand it over to you. Good morning happy Easter. Good to see everyone smiling faces. We have us we’re going to start with our special song today and it’s called red letters and so in light of that song I wanted to bring up some of the words from the Bible that Jesus spoke because those of course are in the Bible printed as read.

▶ 1:05 In John 14:6 Jesus said answered him and said I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me. In Matthew 5:3 when he was speaking. On the mount Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit. For theirs is the kingdom of heaven and so many people in the last couple months have been through some difficult things at different times. For economic reasons for health reasons and sometimes we come on Sunday and we can feel poor in spirit we can feel just just low low but Jesus said that we can still have an inheritance in his kingdom.

▶ 2:03 In Matthew 11:28 he says come to me all who labor and have heavy loads and I will give you rest Jesus has the power he says he’s the prince of peace he says he’s the counselor he has the power when no one else has the solution and the answer Jesus said he will give you rest. And in John 6:35 Jesus said to them I am the bread of life he who comes to me will never hunger never hunger and he who believes in me will never thirst to be able to live life not feeling thirsty not feeling hungry but to be strong Jesus gives us that power and this song talks about that.

▶ 19:18 Of a virgin we know that you rose from the dead and we have this hope and we have this victory that Jesus Christ you are coming again in your glory Lord Jesus. Make us ready make us worthy make us holy fill us with your Holy Spirit Lord it’s a new day fill us Lord with the words of life that we need to be speaking to those that may be like this prisoner who was bound and yet the word of God you came to him in his prison cell and you spoke life you spoke life to the woman at the well and she became a new woman and Jesus this is the hope for all the earth to know that Jesus died for our sins for you love the world and you love us today and we are grateful and God’s children said amen amen.

▶ 20:18 I’d like to welcome you this morning. Online and in the room it’s good to be in God’s house and it’s very good to be here this resurrection Sunday we are reminded of the resurrection of Jesus Christ not only the resurrection but his death on the cross where his blood was shed for our sin I just like to begin this morning. With letting people know the very simple message that Jesus has in Romans 3:21 says the wages of sin is death. No I’m sorry it says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and every one of us have sinned fallen short of the glory of God and the simple solution it has in Romans 6:21 the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ and that is what we celebrate this weekend.

What happened on Friday?

▶ Watch this part (21:12)

Short answer: Jesus was put on the cross and His blood shed; if we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 21:12 On Friday is when Jesus. Was put on the cross and his blood was shed for our sin. And first John 1:9 says if we confess. With our mouths he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness the message is so simple if you’re an unbeliever you do not believe in Jesus if you never heard the words of Jesus those three verses there are a great beginning pathway for you and if you have prayed the sinner sinners prayer like many have where you’ve accepted Jesus into your heart this message is for you and it’s so important this morning we’re going to talk about. In Christ being in Christ. And the American church and the church throughout the world God is challenging us are we in him.

▶ 22:06 And we’re going to look at that this morning we’re going to look at some red letters that Jesus spoke John 11:41 he says father I thank you that you have heard me I know that you always hear me but because of the people who are standing by I said this and Jesus said this on the day that Lazarus rose from the grave. And Jesus has these conversations with God and they’re written in the scriptures for us to learn. Jesus and God already know what’s going on they’ve already had conversations but we have them in the scriptures to help us understand. And we have another red letter here Matthew 27 verse 46. Jesus at this time had been marred beyond recognition it says in Isaiah his visage his face his appearance was marred more than any man he was beaten with a rod he was whipped with a count of nine tails that ripped his flesh.

What did Jesus endure?

▶ Watch this part (23:09)

Short answer: A crown of thorns, torture, humiliation and spitting.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 23:09 To pieces. He had a crown of thorns pushed into his skull such torture and humiliation. People spat on him as he walked by they beat him they mocked him the soldiers did. Our king Jesus. Jesus. And Jesus on the cross he spoke these words he said eli eli lama. God my God why have you forsaken me. And. Unlike when he called Lazarus as out of the tomb he did not take time to share and explain what he meant by all that. The teachers of the law were there witnessing his death they knew the Old Testament they knew God’s word.

Why did Jesus quote Psalm 22?

▶ Watch this part (24:06)

Short answer: My God, why have You forsaken Me — the whole psalm records that conversation.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 24:06 And when he said this simple statement they were not reminded of Psalms 22. Instead. They said he is calling Elijah. Let us see if Elijah comes. The religious people had in their mind the scriptures but they did not partake. They were not in Christ they were not in God and that’s what we’re going to learn about this morning. In Psalms 22 we have this same statement the very first verse of Psalms 22 as you know Psalms was written hundreds of years before Jesus died on the cross. And this Psalm is written by a psalmist it’s not written by it’s not it’s not Jesus well I can’t say that it’s God’s words God’s spirit he gave him these words my God my God why have you forsaken me.

▶ 25:10 And so in Psalms 22 we have this whole conversation that God and Jesus had regarding that statement that he made on the cross. And we want to look at that. A little bit this morning but first I want to remind you in Luke chapter 22 verse 41. Jesus was was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw and he knelt down and prayed he said father if it is your will take this cup away from me nevertheless not my will but yours be done. That an angel appeared and strengthened him and being in agony he prayed more earnestly and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground Jesus Christ knew what was coming. And just so you know.

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 22:1 (NKJV)

My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?

— Psalm 22:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:06

Did Jesus go willingly?

▶ Watch this part (26:04)

Short answer: Knowing all that would come, He went forward and said, Whom are you seeking?

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 26:04 If you know something is coming. You make steps to get out of the way. Right. If he knew Judas was coming and he knew they were coming to take him he could have escaped. Knowing that they were coming they didn’t have cameras back then they didn’t have helicopters they didn’t have vehicles it wouldn’t have been that hard amen so Jesus here we see that he willingly gave himself over. To these men he willingly gave himself up to that cross as we know the scriptures say that I can call angels down legions of angels and they will come and rescue me we know that scripture so this thing that he did he willingly did it.

▶ 27:00 Jesus therefore knowing all things it says in John 18:4 that would come upon him went forward and said to them whom are you seeking and he’s talking to the people that wanted to capture him take him. Jesus knew it was coming it’s important to know. This. Jesus willingly gave himself in Psalms 22 this chapter. That was written hundreds of years before my God my God why have you forsaken me he says many things but he also says I am a worm. Can you believe Jesus saying that about himself he is a worm no he’s the son of God. But Jesus said this about himself. And no man a reproach of men and despised by the people see that is true he was despised by the religious people so what is this worm he is talking about the worm here.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 18:4 (NKJV)

Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?”

— John 18:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 27:00

What is the scarlet worm?

▶ Watch this part (28:02)

Short answer: I am a worm and no man — the crimson worm that dies on wood to protect its young.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 28:02 The word is a particular worm. It is the crimson or the scarlet worm. And this worm was used to die. Uh garments. Creme the crimson color up until the 17th century this worm the secretions from this worm this is a very well known thing it’s a this is also uh taught. A lot. And the process here I know it’s a little yucky but this is important. This worm this crimson scarlet worm at the end of her life she has an egg sack and she goes up to a tree a tree branch or piece of wood she attaches herself to that tree and she hardens her outer shell so that nothing can come and hurt her babies.

▶ 29:02 And the eggs hatch. She hardens her body like I said to protect her young and her eggs hatch and unfortunately the eggs eat the mom’s body and yes I know it’s yucky it’s gross. But it’s so. Important. And they come out over time not only do they eat the body but the mother secretes a crimson. Color onto her young her young start out as white they are white but this. Mother secretes this red. Crimson dye on her young. And it is on them for the rest of their lives. So when Jesus is saying he’s a worm he’s talking about a specific crimson worm Jesus willingly.

▶ 30:02 Was crucified on the cross that piece of wood he went up on that cross. To protect. His people. You and me. From sin. He went on that cross and his blood was shed so that he could mark us with his blood. That mark lasts forever and we need that mark every day. And it protects us Jesus blood protects. Us. So when he talks about this worm he’s talking about that process.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Psalm 22:6 (NKJV)

But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people.

— Psalm 22:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 28:02

How do we partake of Him?

▶ Watch this part (30:56)

Short answer: He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me; as I live by the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 30:56 But we partake of Jesus Christ. He says in the scriptures in John verse 6 and this is so important we’re going to be talking about how to be in Christ and this is where he begins to explain it and you you we’ve heard those scriptures therefore if anyone is in Christ he’s a new creation well what does that mean two words in Christ what does that mean does that mean you believe and you say the sin of prayer now you’re in Christ there’s a little more to the process. And God wants to share that with us this morning and the church in America and the church worldwide needs to understand this. Jesus said I say to you unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day so oh sorry he goes on to say he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him see this is in Christ when you read those words in Christ.

▶ 32:15 It is Jesus abiding in you and you in him. As the living father sent me I live because of the father and so he he who feeds on me will live because of me and you see that he really here relates himself to that crimson worm. The young feeding on the body and I know it’s yucky but God is making an example here he’s trying to show us something and if you’re still confused like I would was when I read all this okay what does it mean and I still don’t understand God what do you mean in Christ I still I see this I read it I hear it and I know what you’re saying. But I still don’t know what you’re talking about just to remind you second Corinthians verse 5 17 therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation and that is what we want to be that new creation.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 6:56-57 (NKJV)

He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

— John 6:56-57 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:56

What does new creation mean?

▶ Watch this part (33:14)

Short answer: Old things have passed away; all things have become new.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 33:14 That new creation makes all the difference in the world says old things have passed away behold all things have become new but why today in our country in our world are Christians those accepting and believing in Christ not becoming a new creature. It is because they are not in Christ. Therefore if anyone. Therefore I’m sorry there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus when you look up this in stuff it’s all over the Bible it’s all over the New Testament who do not walk according to the flesh but walk according to the spirit. And when Jesus said you have to eat my flesh the people there the religious people eat your flesh they’re like you’re crazy.

▶ 34:09 And some of us you know we read God’s word and I read verses where I’m like God what are you talking about. But let’s have a hearing ear this morning God reveals it in this same chapter he says this is the bread exactly after he says eat my flesh. Feed on me this is the bread which came down from heaven not as your fathers ate the manna and are dead but he who eats this bread will live forever so he’s going back to an example now in the Old Testament where the manna came down in the camp and people. Had to eat that bread so let’s look at that for a moment I know we’re diving deep you know we’re going this is third level here. But stay with me Exodus 16 chapter 4. The people were in the desert.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:14

How did Israel use manna?

▶ Watch this part (35:03)

Short answer: They gathered daily, prepared it and ate it — like God’s word, it must be applied.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 35:03 They had. No way of getting food I mean we’re talking about over a million people. I mean where do you find food in the desert. And God says I will reign bread from heaven for you and the people shall and I’m summarizing here go out and gather a certain quota every day. Prepare it. Bake it. And eat it. Let no one leave any of it until morning. Some of them left part of it until morning and it read worms and stained. And as you know Jesus said I am the bread of life miss stephanie quoted that scripture before we began this morning that he is the bread of life.

▶ 36:03 They had to gather every day and of course we know that the bread is the word of God. And so every day God is calling us to gather the knowledge of his word if you’re not taking time every day as a Christian if you have said the sinner’s prayer and you do not go on to gather God’s word knowledge of God’s word you’re not going to become that new creation. You have to prepare it bake it. This morning we prayed and we praised God this morning you see there’s some preparation work that has to happen with that word you’ve got to pray over you’ve got to ask God God reveal this to me help me understand you may read the scriptures every day but unless you ask God and say God show me what you’re saying God put this in my heart God help me understand.

▶ 37:02 And lastly. They would eat it. And. God is asking us today. You may read the scriptures you may hear God’s word but are you applying what it says to your life. And God is asking America this question and the world this question. We may know what it says but will we apply God’s word to our lives. Some of them left part of it till morning and it bred worms and stained and see this is what happens people will take part of God’s word and leave another part. They will take love out of God’s word but leave out correction.

▶ 37:57 They will take mercy but not. Truth. They will take peace but not righteousness. And it is so important to have and to eat that whole put apply the whole scriptures to you the balanced word both parts love and correction truth and mercy the Bible talks about them truth and mercy righteousness and peace have kissed they’ve met together you can’t have one without the other. And it’s the same way in God’s word you’ve got to eat the whole thing the whole message. Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation old things have passed away behold all things have become new God is asking and reminding the church today.

▶ 38:59 Are we daily gathering God’s word gathering knowledge of God’s word do we pray and praise to prepare it to bake it and do we eat it and apply it to our lives or do we reject it do we eat part of it and reject the other part this is happening. A lot in God’s church and God is looking for people. That will go and gather. His word. Pray and pray over it and apply it holy to their life he is calling us all to do. This. Matthew 23 verse 2 the scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’s seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe observe and do but do not do according to their works for they say and do not do see they were a great example they gathered.

▶ 40:04 The manna God’s word but they would not apply it to their life and we see that plainly here Jesus is explaining to his disciples listen to what they say because what they say is God’s word but what they are doing they are not applying what the scriptures say to. Do. And as I already said before in Psalms 22. Actually in Psalms 22 verse 7 all those who see me ridicule me they shoot out the lip they shake the head saying he trusted in the Lord let him rescue him let him deliver him since he delights in him and those people were there the religious people were there even though they had they had knowledge of God’s word they knew Psalms they did not.

▶ 41:08 Understand. And apply God’s word in their life all those who passed by blasphemed wagging their heads saying you who destroyed the temple and build it in three days save yourself if you are the son of God come down from the cross. In Psalms. 22. Verse 21. It says you have answered me and I was reading the Psalms and I got to this point where it’s like you have answered me and it it’s like by itself I’m like what was the question. Do we remember what the question was. Why have you forsaken me. Isaiah 53 verse 10 powerful chapter in Isaiah again another prophet who wrote this hundreds of years before Jesus came.

Exodus 16:4 (NKJV)

Did it please the Lord to bruise Him?

▶ Watch this part (42:11)

Short answer: Yes; He shall see the labor of His soul and justify many.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 42:11 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him. He has put him to grief. He shall see the labor of his soul and be satisfied. By his knowledge my righteous servant shall justify. Many. For he shall bear their iniquities. And I will divide him a portion for with the great. So Jesus is hearing this answer from God the whole plan they’re having this conversation and God is sharing with him the whole plan. And after hearing that answer Jesus said I’m standing on this. Cross. You have answered me.

▶ 43:04 I’m standing here. I willingly bear the iniquities of the world. I’m here to justify many. And I want. A portion of my people in the end. Today in our world they’re trying to convince us that we came from nothing. That we have no purpose we haven’t have no value. But God himself stayed on that cross because he wants. Us we are so valuable to him.

What did Jesus pray?

▶ Watch this part (43:58)

Short answer: If You are willing, take this cup — nevertheless not My will but Yours.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 43:58 He said. He was in that that garden praying God. If you would take this cup from me but not my will your will and then he got on that cross and he reminded us of that conversation why have you forsaken me because I’m going to give you a portion. These people will belong to you and Jesus said I’m staying here. I gladly stay here. As and if you read Psalms 22 after he says you have answered him. Jesus begins to praise God. With words of adoration.

▶ 44:50 And though he had to stay on that cross and hang on that cross. He gladly did it and he praised God and thanked him for it. It’s just a beautiful. Thing. I shall divide him a portion with the great because he poured out his soul unto death. He was numbered with the transgressors. He bore the sin of many and made intercession for us as the worship team comes. At the end of Psalms 22 says future generations. Shall serve him the word they use in that scripture is a it says a posterity. Of future coming generations will serve him with all their heart with all their soul it will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation they will come and declare his righteousness.

▶ 45:51 To a people who will be born that he has done this. And so Jesus hearing this answer he says I’m staying here. He didn’t want to go through that pain. But after hearing all of the things that were going to happen he gladly stayed there for you and me. So God is asking us today. I’m sorry in summary. Jesus willingly gave his life to be the bread of life that we partake of to give the church the choice to apply his word to their life and it is so true when you apply God’s word to your life it will make you a new person it is completely evident.

▶ 46:54 When somebody comes to Christ and follows his word their life is changed he has come he willingly gave his life to mark his people with his blood to protect and cleanse them for the rest of their lives. He gave his life to receive a portion that will be given to him a portion that is us. And to enable future generations to serve him live for him and declare the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Church God is asking us will we come to him. Will we choose to be in Christ. Will we eat his flesh daily by applying his word to our life or will we reject it and hate it.

▶ 47:47 Because that’s what the world does but when you come to him and you pray that sinner’s prayer you have a choice will you accept it will you follow it. Will you not. Become so offended by his word. But when God challenges you you say yes God you humble yourself submit to him. Will you accept his blood stain on your life that covers you and protects you. Today is the day of salvation in John 5:40 he says you are not willing to come to me that you may have life. Jesus has the life this morning and when we come to him.
