Pastor David G. Kincer asks whether we really understand the Holy Spirit’s power. The river of God is the Spirit flowing out in talk and walk. Believing is not the same as having the power switched on; the disciples waited ten days for the promise of the Father, then brought 3,000 to Christ. The power is to live for Him and be a light.

What is the river of God?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God; it is a river of impartial speech and of eternal life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 0:00 Okay we’re gonna continue about the river of God this is a brief review we found in Psalms 46:4 that there is a river the streams the irrigation channels the canals. Where of shall make glad the city of God so the first thing we found is this river brings joy. This river comes to the holy place the tabernacle of the most high God is in the midst of her that’s the church and she shall not be moved you’re not getting rid of the church folks and God shall help her and that right quickly right early that’s the promise is about the river now.

▶ 0:56 We. Talked about the river is a river of speech a speech that is impartial speech that answers problems and questions impartial the river also is the river of eternal life in Revelations it says drink of the waters of life freely and the river affects our behavior. The Bible says he will cause us this river will cause you the spirit will cause you to walk in my statutes and my judgments and so these people that say judge not lest you be not judged we are to make judgments we are to make decisions and we are to make right decision so that brings us up to date today we’re going to be talking about.

What do the rivers speak about?

▶ Watch this part (1:50)

Short answer: The Holy Ghost: out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. This He spoke of the Spirit, not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 1:50 How we know that the rivers are used to speak about the Holy Ghost okay. John 7:38 he that believes on me shall not perish but have everlasting life that’s not the only scripture that says he that believes on me this scripture says he that believes on me as the scripture out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water the word living here is physical living earthly living. And it says he was speaking of the spirit so these rivers are talking about what the spirit of God. Whom those who believed in him were to receive were to receive they hadn’t got it yet they didn’t get it at baptism they got it when they got it and these people that tell you you get the baptism oh that goes that water baptism are really leading the church astray you get the Holy Spirit when you get it and that’s when you get it.

▶ 3:00 For the spirit has not yet been given all right have not been given out yet it had been given to a select few prophets and all that back through there but not upon all flesh yet because Jesus had not been glorified so we know the river brings joy we know the river brings eternal life we know the river brings a speech that is impartial and gives us answers and we know these things and we know that the river talks about the Holy Ghost we also know that there are fruits and gifts of the spirit. Flowing out of believers because the river what flows out of us okay and unlike the picture where it showed the water coming out of the belly the water is inside and it comes out of the mouth.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 7:38-39 (NKJV)

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

— John 7:38-39 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:50

How does the Spirit flow out?

▶ Watch this part (3:59)

Short answer: It comes out in your behavior: it affects your talk and your walk.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 3:59 It comes out in your behavior all right it’s not just flowing out of your you know your stomach opens and this the spirit comes out of your mouth it affects your talk it affects your walk and we know there are fruits of the spirit okay fruits of the spirit is things that a fruit grows naturally if it’s in the right atmosphere the right conditions an apple tree will produce apples you take that apple chi and put it the antarctica it’s not going to produce anything it’s going to die it’s got to be in the conditions that cause the fruit to grow you can’t make fruit grow you can prepare the conditions for the growth and so the spirit gives us several fruits love joy peace patience gentleness goodness and faith all right and that is a natural.

What are the gifts of the Spirit?

▶ Watch this part (5:04)

Short answer: Nine supernatural abilities given to you. You can’t clean out a hospital; you heal whom God gives the gift for, as Jesus did at Bethesda.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 5:04 Production of the spirit of God in 1 Corinthians 12:8 we have the gifts of the spirit now a gift is something given to you it’s a supernatural abilities here and there are nine of them and you can’t just go out. Like you can’t walk into a hospital and heal everybody because the gift only works when the gift giver gives it to you you say it is a gift if I gave. Beckham a dollar bill and he went out and spent it that’s it he used it he can’t keep using it it’s good for one time.

▶ 6:00 You can’t go into a hospital and clean out the hospital you can only go into a hospital and heal who God gives the gift to he’ll okay it says that Jesus went to the pool of Bethesda he walked over all these crowds of people to one man why because that’s who the father said I’m going to give the gift of healing to and once Jesus used that gift of healing he had no more to give to anybody else you understand the gift is only usable when it’s given to you prophecy word of wisdom where the knowledge discernment you can’t walk around discerning everybody all right it only works when the gift giver gives the gift and when it’s done you don’t have anything left got it.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NKJV)

for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

— 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:04
Scripture (NKJV)

John 5:2-9 (NKJV)

Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

— John 5:2-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:00

Do we really understand the Holy Spirit’s power?

▶ Watch this part (6:56)

Short answer: Jesus said, I send the promise of My Father upon you; tarry until you are endued with power from on high.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 6:56 Hallelujah. So we know these things but my question today. Is. Do we understand. The Holy Spirit’s power do we really understand the power of the Holy Spirit. On the screen. You’re gonna see the power button on a computer here we got to learn how to turn that power but not. You know I can put my computer on sleep and it will turn off by itself but if I move that mouse bam the power comes on some of us need to move our mouse and get the power we’ve been asleep we need to get the power turn back on could that be an amen yes.

▶ 7:57 And Luke 24:49 I send the promise of my father upon you what’s the promise out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water. Okay that was the promise wasn’t it. Okay there is a river that makes glad the city of God God promised the rivers the promise of my father upon you but tarry in Jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high they hadn’t got it yet they had to go to Jerusalem and they had to pray and they had to seek God until it came. Alright they. And the word in dude there means fully clothed but more than that it’s it means.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 24:49 (NKJV)

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

— Luke 24:49 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:57

Is believing enough to have power?

▶ Watch this part (8:58)

Short answer: No. Until the button goes on you don’t have any power, like a mixer or refrigerator that just sits there.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 8:58 Provided and supplied. Until you be provided the power supplied the power and until this button goes on you don’t have any power you can believe all you want to but until the button comes on you don’t have this power. You’re great yes and the Holy Spirit’s got to turn it on and you got to do the things to turn it on okay do we understand the power and remember he says living waters is life now how many need the power to live now I mean when I go to heaven what what the problem I don’t have problems up there I need the power here and he said out of my innermost being the spirit would give me the power to.

Is the Holy Spirit just about tongues?

▶ Watch this part (9:59)

Short answer: No. Pentecostals and charismatics got hung up on tongues; he speaks in tongues, but the power is to live for Him and be a light.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 9:59 Live for him in this life now in Pentecost and charismatic we were all hung up on tongues and and all that stuff and and those are good I mean I don’t knock that I speak in tongues and I can interpret many of them but you’d only do it when he gives you the release to do it otherwise you’re faking it all right you’ve seen so many fake healings it drove me nuts back in my young day thank God there were some real ones. Amen yeah yeah back in the 70s when God was moving late sixties seventies early eighties there were men and women used of God to do some tremendous things and then you had the mimickers well they can do it I can do it yeah no I’ll just believe you’re healed you know you know all this stuff and just fake stuff fake tongues fake healings fake everything in the midst of the real thing please understand I was there there were real healings there were real tongues there were real interpretations there were real words of wisdom okay that doesn’t mean all of us have it and that doesn’t mean you can turn it on when you want to that means when that gift works it works could that be an amen now.

▶ 11:25 He’s going to provide us power from on high you know until you turn your mixer at home the switch on it just sits there doing nothing until you turn your refrigerator on it just sits there doing nothing and until we turn our self on we’re just gonna be doing nothing. Are you ready to get turned on today. Now let’s go to Acts 1 verses 4 through 8 Jesus again talks to his apostles and he says do not depart from Jerusalem see before he said go to Jerusalem now he’s saying don’t depart from Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the father what’s the promise of the father here the rivers of life the spirit of life the rivers is the spirit he is promising us to be filled with and supplied with the power of his spirit to live in this life say with me live in this life live in this life by his power alright.

Is the baptism of the Holy Ghost a separate experience?

▶ Watch this part (12:43)

Short answer: Yes. You shall be baptized, saturated with the Holy Ghost; he says the fundamentalists are wrong.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 12:43 That’s the promise of the father you shall be baptized saturated with the Holy Ghost see it is a different experience the fundamentalists are wrong there is a different there’s a different experience between born again and getting saved and the baptism of Holy Ghost and it’s just plain as the nose on your face in the Bible when you get filled with the Holy Ghost believe me you know it because you get turned on. And you will be baptized in the Holy Ghost not many days from now they didn’t know how many days because they didn’t understand that the feast of Pentecost had to be fulfilled fifty days and Jesus showed himself and talked to him for forty days they had no idea they gonna they’re gonna have to wait ten days they didn’t know how long they were gonna have to wait when they went up in that upper room because there’s no record in the scriptures that they understood this yet you understand and you don’t know how long it’s going to take for you seeking God before the power turns on now that was good.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 1:5 (NKJV)

for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

— Acts 1:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:43

Did they stop evangelizing to wait?

▶ Watch this part (14:01)

Short answer: Yes. For ten days they stopped trying to get converts and waited; it may take you longer, but it’s worth the wait.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 14:01 Just because you pray it doesn’t mean you turned it on. Now listen they had no evangelism for 40 days. They stopped evangelizing. They stopped trying to get converts they went in that upper room and they prayed and they worshiped and they taught the word of God and we know they taught the word of God because they selected someone to replace judas. Which they got from the scriptures so they were getting Revelation of scriptures during this 10-day period so they were teaching the word they were praying and they were worshipping and praising God for 10 days are you with me what should we be doing to turn the button on praying worshiping and getting into the word.

▶ 15:04 And it may take 10 days it may take 10 months for you but it’s worth the wait. When that power gets turned on it’s gonna revolutionize your life here on earth. That was a good place for a good amen. Folks we’re talking about a real God here we’re talking about a real promise heap the father promised this Holy Ghost to give us power to live in this life. Not just gifts and fruits as I said before the charismatic sand us pentecostals we got hung up on the gifts I don’t know if we got hung up on the fruits or not but we sure got hung up on the gifts and that Holy Ghost came to make us a light to the world that people can see our good works are serving God and bring glory to God I.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 1:4 (NKJV)

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;

— Acts 1:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:01

What does life look like without the power?

▶ Watch this part (16:09)

Short answer: He tells of a woman who publicly ripped her husband and blamed him; the power isn’t on.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 16:09 Don’t care if you speak in tongues or not or prophesy that power is to live and be a light I’ve seen I’ve told you before I’ll never forget this woman she was in a hole in this church Jesus only church she had clothing from head to toe her hair it was down to her buttocks no makeup she looked like she came out of the graveyard and she would come in to the to the shop I was in and she would be raving and ranting at her every time they came in she was. And this was her he was a nice-looking man I’ve told you this story before and she was a not-so-nice looking woman and I thought how in the world this guy get hooked up with this woman.

▶ 17:02 And I know you know she was in her church during the [unclear] and all this stuff and she just ripping her husband publicly every time he could never do anything right you ever seen those people. And I said to myself why in the world is this guy put up with this I asked God I said what and so I realized because they were in that church he felt he had to marry somebody in that church and this was and he was a very successful man this guy had a good job he was a very very handsome guy and he married this. Dull woman. And one day she came in and there was no husband and she wasn’t ranting about anything.

▶ 17:57 She was cast down and all the rest and then the next time she came in and the next time and of course when I inquired she blamed the husband it wasn’t spiritual enough and I’m thinking good God woman. So that was it she was the spiritual one of the hamm family uh and he was never spiritual enough never. And she just bracingly drove the guy way are you with me the Holy Ghost does not allow you to do that I don’t care if you speak in tongues I don’t care if you shake and quake and dance or whatever if you’re not treating your spouse right there’s something wrong with your Holy Ghost baptism. That’s a fact.

▶ 18:53 You’re not treating your children right there’s something wrong with that whole ego the power isn’t on and then he goes on to say and you know there’s a time where we need to seek God now I do a lot of evangelizing especially on the internet now but also in person I evangelize this week to do guys here and I hit him I hit him from every area how they’re. They gave me the excuse of minorities and I said give me a minority group that you think is being mistreated in America he said well black people I said that. Is not. Something they had a choice on nobody has a choice who their parents are we do have a choice of how we live in that right so then they brought up the latinos I you’re out race again give me some minority group in America that’s being mistreated I said the truth is you democrats say women are being mistreated and they are not a minority they are a majority in America.

What minority does he defend?

▶ Watch this part (20:09)

Short answer: The unborn baby, whom he calls a minority that people ignore.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 20:09 You know right I said you don’t need an excuse for a minority you just you guys just select who you want to approve of and who you don’t and when you use this minority stuff I said poor poverty is not a minority in America it is the majority the majority of Americans are not rich only 10% of Americans are rich they’re the minority what we’re gonna do with that minority take all their money. Are you there see and I told them I’m gonna I’m gonna talk with you logically I’m not gonna use the Bible just come talk logically. Are you with me for church yeah let me tell you our babies are minority. You know they just look at me of course babies are a minority you’re killing them.

▶ 21:08 But over here you want to help the black minority and you want to help the latino minority and all these so-called prefabricated minorities and the baby is a minority and you could cure the least about it are you with me is that logical. Yeah. Hallelujah. You’re going to get power supernatural ability say supernatural ability. City and supernatural ability. Okay don’t forget that brooke. Supernatural ability is what christianity is all about. All right after the Holy Ghost when do you get the power supernatural ability after the Holy Ghost has come upon you not after baptism after the power is turned on you got supernatural ability to live in this life.

▶ 22:14 Love your husband love your wife love Jesus loved the church and evangelize but these people did not evangelize for 10 days and some of us even if we want to evangelize we can’t evangelize because we got no power. To give out. So it isn’t always about evangelism is my point you need to get the power and then go and preach the word it’s that fair enough yes and you need to keep giving it you know just because it’s turned on one week doesn’t mean it’s turned on the next week just because you got turned on 40 years ago doesn’t mean you’re turned on now it doesn’t it means you got to get back to worshiping and praying and getting into the word to get the power turn back on.

Whom should you follow?

▶ Watch this part (23:11)

Short answer: Not the multitude into psychology and philosophy, but the crowd that seeks Him; if you seek Him you will find Him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 23:11 Alleluia don’t follow the multitude to fall into psychology and philosophy and all kinds of religious nonsense follow the crowd that seeks him because the Bible says if you seek him you will find him. Amen. Alleluia. Now he says if after the power comes on you’re gonna be my witnesses you’re gonna be a light to the world your speech is going to be chained your behavior is going to be changed. John 16:6 when the Holy Spirit has come has come when it has come it’s not a faith thing it is a fact thing when he comes he will convict you mankind of sin right and judgment don’t we need that.

Is the Holy Ghost there in the darkest time?

▶ Watch this part (24:09)

Short answer: Yes. When his first wife left him, the Holy Ghost counseled, advised and directed him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 24:09 I remember when my first wife left me for another man I. Didn’t even invite counselors to talk to me they just came and told me well you should have went bar-hopping with her and dancing with her you should have done things to keep her from falling away and I’m going my God I got born again that stuff was borne out of me when I got born again I had no desire to go bar hopping and dancing and all this stuff that we did before in the flesh I found a new music what a friend we have in Jesus amazing grace how sweet the sound I found a new way of living I’m a new way of life and I found people that walk this path with me now what do I need to go back into the din of darkness to try to save a spouse it’s her responsibility to find him and get saved it’s not my job to save anybody wow that was good.

▶ 25:15 Hallelujah and let me tell you I’m telling you this story because even in your darkest toughest time that Holy Ghost is there and he will counsel you he will advise you and he will direct you and keep you cool you don’t have to get angry you don’t have to lash out verbally you could just keep following God and everything will work out fine. Amen. But the Holy Ghost will give you the behavior and the speech and the response when you need it now folks that’s what he says out of your innermost being these living waters will flow you can live in this life by the power of the Holy Ghost and do what is right even when others do what is wrong. Amen we need to turn on the power as the musicians come I.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

Speaking of the physical life this word here is the greek word for both either physical or spiritual. I’m come that you might have abundant spiritual life and a natural life and that they might have this spiritual and natural life more abundantly in other words you’re going to be oversupplied you’re never the Bible says when you drink of this waters you will what never thirst again say it never thirst again he’s there when you need him if you listen to him and if you seek him and worship him and get into the word the the switch will come on.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 27:07 Amen and it will stay on what brings life maintains life hallelujah and then. That same day after going ten days without telling anyone about Jesus they brought three thousand people to Christ by speaking in languages the mighty works of God no interpreter was needed amen three thousand they waited ten days but was the weight worth it absolutely when the powers turned on the Holy Spirit got people’s attention and they spoke words that they never knew before and they’re on the other peoples languages and folks that’s what people out there need the internet is filled with people that just believe if you believe you’re going to heaven nothing else is required and that’s a big lie you’re not a light to the world if you just live the way you want in that right. So if you want the power turned on this morning will you stand with me and let’s sing.
