Did Jesus Come To Israel Only? Will We See Signs and Wonders?: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Pastor David G. Kincer uses maps of Israel to show Jesus ministering in Galilee and Syria, healing Gentiles like the Canaanite woman’s daughter. Isaiah 49:6 shows He was always a light to the nations. Many followed only for bread or chose religion over life. Signs and wonders come through preaching the gospel, not psychology or motivational talks.
What did Israel look like before Christ?
Short answer: Twelve tribes; Assyria took the ten northern tribes captive, though some were left in the land.
▶ 0:02 On your screen you’re gonna see two maps. The map on the left is the 12 tribes of Israel a thousand years before Christ came there were twelve tribes the kingdom was split and the ten northern tribes became one area and benjamin and Judah were the southern kingdom. Now. Remember we said at the beginning did Jesus come to Israel only we want to answer that question. Jesus said he came to Israel only is that true and then we want to see if we can genuinely have signs and wonders in the earth today not the fake stuff that we see a lot but genuine signs and wonders were going to be answering these questions as we read the scriptures that we’re using today is going to answer both questions.
▶ 1:14 So Assyria came and took Israel’s ten tribes captive and I have a question mark there because some were left in the land and some escaped from Syria and went down to Judah to live to exceed the captivity this is found in second Kings chapters 15 through chapters 18 the king of Assyria not only took the Israelites captive and put them in different cities in his kingdom but he brought people over from his kingdom of different cities and placed them in Israel’s kingdom. Now. We. Have Israel and Jesus’s time with Jews with Romans with the nations and with mixed blood these people mix their blood they married in different nations in.
Scripture in this part
2 Kings 17:6 (NKJV)
In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
— 2 Kings 17:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:14Was Jesus’ bloodline purely Jewish?
Short answer: No. Several Gentiles were brought into the tribe of Judah’s line because God wanted all nations.
▶ 2:17 The tribe of Judah Jesus’s bloodline is not a pure bloodline there were several Gentiles brought in to that bloodline because God never intended to leave the nations out he. Wanted to reach them from the Genesis chapter one. We learned that last week in our last session that God’s first plan was to save the nations the Israelites and Jews were chosen to take God’s word to these nations. They failed. So Jesus took the kingdom from them and he said I’m gonna give it to a people bearing forth the fruits of the kingdom and we know in Romans it says that the kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost power our pjp righteousness peace joy power and so the first thing if we want real genuine signs and wonders we got to bring forth the fruit of the kingdom.
Where did Jesus minister?
Short answer: He went about all Galilee teaching, preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all kinds of sickness.
▶ 3:30 So we will start reading in Matthew chapter 4 verse 23 Jesus went about all Galilee. You see it at the northern part of their Galilee a province with a mixture of people not just Jews but also other nationalities and he did three things he taught in the Jews synagogue so he did go to the Jews and the Jews didn’t like him but he had such authority he had such power that if he wanted to go preach anywhere he could do it. And. Secondly he preached the gospel to the kingdom he was the messiah promised to come to Christ born of a virgin.
▶ 4:24 Supernatural birth at 30 years of age he began to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God he began to do miracles and signs and wonders to prove he was the messiah the Christ. And. He healed all manner of sickness and diseases among the people wow. Now that is an unarguable thing when people can be healed supernaturally. That shows there is a supernatural God. So he healed all manner of sickness and diseases among the people and his fame went through all Syria that big northern province of the man his fame went all the way up there and syria.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 4:23 (NKJV)
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
— Matthew 4:23 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:30Who came to Him?
Short answer: His fame went throughout Syria; they brought the sick, tormented and demon-possessed and He healed them.
▶ 5:19 And Galilee brought to him all the sick people they could find with different diseases torments demon-possessed crazy people lunatics and they that were paralyzed and he healed them all. Then it says great multitudes followed him from Galilee decapolis is a purple area on the right side of the map beyond Jordan is decapolis and berea is over there and also edom and moab is over there and he preached beyond the river of Jordan on the east side of Jordan and he came back over and he preached to Jude the people in judea and Jerusalem where the temple was in chapter 15 verse 21 Jesus journeys again back up to tyre and sidon the northern part of your map on the coast of the mediterranean sea he went up there in those heathen cities and preached the gospel and to let us know what kind of people he encountered.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 4:24 (NKJV)
Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.
— Matthew 4:24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:19Did Jesus help a Gentile?
Short answer: Yes. A Canaanite woman’s great faith got her daughter delivered.
▶ 6:33 He gives us a record of a Canaanite woman bringing her demon-possessed daughter to Jesus and it explains what kind of woman this was she was a Canaanite. One of the nationalities in the kingdom of Israel that they conquered and she was also a Sarah phoenicia that means she was a syrian she was not only a Canaanite but was she was a syrian that lived in phoenicia. This is the kind of people Jesus was ministering to a mixed people a heathen people. People of mixed races much like today. And he.
▶ 7:25 Says to the woman. The the after the disciples said send her away, Lord because Jesus had said in Matthew 10 that the disciples were not to go to the heathen but to the tribes of Israel so they saw this woman she shouldn’t be ministered to and so they’re trying to send this woman away and Jesus says this statement I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel why did he say that statement he’d been ministering to the heathen for a long time now from chapter 4 up to chapter 15 he had been ministering to everybody that came to him Jesus did this several times in the Bible. You see he knows whether we believe him whether we have faith or not and he knows that if he asked us to do something whether it’s go wash in a pool or whatever he knows you have the faith to respond and so he said to this woman I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel and her faith rose up and said yes Lord but the dogs eat scraps from the master’s table and then Jesus of course delivered this woman’s daughter.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 15:22-28 (NKJV)
And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
— Matthew 15:22-28 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:33Was Jesus only for Israel?
Short answer: No. It is too small a thing to raise up Jacob; I will give You as a light to the Gentiles.
▶ 8:58 Isaiah 49:6 tells us that God said to Jesus before he ever came to earth it is a small thing that you should be my servant to raise up and restore the tribes of Israel the tribes of Jacob my people you’re gonna do that you’re gonna restore them you’re gonna reconcile them back but also I’m gonna give you as a light to the Gentiles and you’ll be my salvation to the ends of the earth so Jesus was sent to God’s people the Israelites the Jews but it was also sent to the nation’s the Gentiles the heathen the unbeliever. Then we go to John chapter 6 verses 2 through 24 and we find John’s account of Jesus ministering to the people and it says large crowds of people not just Jews people followed him because they saw the signs performed on the sick and then.
▶ 9:59 Jesus later fed this same group who saw the signs performed on the sick he fed him with a few loaves and fish now. Anytime you’re having a great meal after being hungry it’s a happy time it’s a joyful time it’s an exciting time and anytime you see people whose eyes being open and the paralyzed getting up and walking in and being normal people it’s exciting. But in verse 26 Jesus said most assuredly I say to you people not just Jews now it’s Jews and all the other people there that came to him you seek me not because you saw the signs but because you ate of the loaves and were filled you know they loved the excitement of seeing miracles the great show and they kind of looked at it the way Jesus personally like it’s great in her tent and we have that today in America just churches entertaining people to be that and then he fed him with the loss of the fish ism man now they wanted to be on a lifetime heavenly wealth welfare and Jesus.
Scripture in this part
Isaiah 49:6 (NKJV)
Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”
— Isaiah 49:6 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:58Why did people follow Jesus?
Short answer: For the loaves; He told them to labor for the food that endures to everlasting life.
▶ 11:17 Saw that they were distracted from him on what he was doing and so he said to the people Jesus answered the people when they asked what must we do to work the works of God and he says this is the work of God that you believe in him whom God set Jesus is trying to get him from his acts from his provisions and on to himself and said believe on me believe on the son of God the one who can save you from sin. In verse 41 the Jews complain now as you know this chapter now they are in the synagogue the Gentiles have to wait outside because the Jews don’t let the Gentiles in to the synagogue so the Jews are in the synagogue and Jesus is teaching them and talking to them and and saying I’m the bread that came down from heaven I am deity I am God and they complained when Jesus said the truth I came down from heaven I’m not just a human being I am God in a human body.
Scripture in this part
John 6:26-27 (NKJV)
Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
— John 6:26-27 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:17Who comes to Jesus?
Short answer: Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.
▶ 12:36 Verse 45 Jesus said to them all who has heard and learned from the father come to me because they were so staunch, honest believing in God and Jesus said if you believe in God he’s gonna lead you to me Jesus is the savior the only savior for mankind. In verse 47. Jesus. Said to the Jews I say to you he who believes in me has everlasting life now he’s offering him everlasting life he offered them sickness and miracles done eyes open every manner of sickness healed and he fed them with food from a few loaves and fishes he showed of his great power and now he shown them the message of the gospel he who believes in me has everlasting life.
▶ 13:43 Jews believe in me I am the messiah to come I am the anointed one the Christ I am the saviour put your trust in me and you will have everlasting life. Verse 66 they debate with Christ a little more you know some people just want to debate they don’t want to experience God they don’t want to want to find out they just want to argue and debate and blame and attack and when it was all over the big debate here they are arguing with God Jesus is God they’re arguing with God. Then many of his disciples these are the Jews they’re the ones in the synagogue hearing this message see Gentiles are outside the synagogue these Jews many of them not all of them many of them went back and walked no more with him they like the miracles they like the entertainment they like being fed but they didn’t want to follow Jesus.
Scripture in this part
John 6:45 (NKJV)
It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.
— John 6:45 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:36What did some Jews choose?
Short answer: A religion of shadows over eternal life through knowing Jesus Christ.
▶ 14:51 And so we find that some people choose religion over eternal life through knowing Jesus Christ these Jews chose a religion of shadow laws rituals symbols arms oh really makes you feel spiritual when you’re helping the poor and permissive immorality no it’s okay to sin they chose religion / eternal life by way of knowing Jesus Christ Jesus said in John 17:3 this is eternal life that you may know the only true God and his son Jesus Christ we can hear about him by the hearing of the year but we can know him intimately by the power of the spirit he puts within us and a lot of people today choose religion they would rather like candles and go through some kind of ceremony and and believe in laws that have nothing to do believe in scripture laws that have nothing to do with eternal life and knowing Christ and they live a very permissive life they take that over Jesus’s offer of eternal life through knowing him intimately so.
What is the duty of all people?
Short answer: To bring forth the fruits of His kingdom: righteousness, peace, joy and power.
▶ 16:18 We see from these scriptures the duty of all people that bring forth the fruits of Jesus’s kingdom righteous peace and joy and power and the Holy Ghost if we want to see signs and wonders we got to come the same way Jesus did we’ve got to let righteousness rule in our life we’ve got to have peace we got to quit quarreling one with another an organ one one with one another over worthless scriptures and joy the Bible says he gives us joy that no man can take away he gives us joy that does good like a medicine it heals your depression it heals your distress the joy of the Lord and the power of course of that Holy Spirit and the power of his word that’s the fruit of the kingdom that’s the first thing we’ve got to have is we’ve got to as a church begin to believe and strive for and pray for the fruits of the kingdom of God and then we’ve got to reach both the unfruitful believer like these Jews were they were unfruitful and we got to reach the nations like Jesus did he reached the Jews who were unfruitful and he reached the nations who were unbelievers and he did
Scripture in this part
Romans 14:17 (NKJV)
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
— Romans 14:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:18How will we see signs and wonders?
Short answer: By preaching the gospel — not psychology, emotional nonsense, motivational or get-rich preaching.
▶ 17:49 it by preaching the gospel not psychology not emotional nonsense not motivational preaching not get rich stuff not you know. Heavenly welfare. But the gospel of Jesus Christ born of a virgin preach the the gospel of the kingdom did signs and wonders laid down his life because no one could take it picked it back up again on Sunday. Rose from the dead appeared to the disciples for forty days and then ascended into heaven and the Bible says he’s coming back again to judge the world that’s the gospel that’s what’s going to save the world if we preach the gospel and we bring forth the fruits of the kingdom signs and wonders can follow us today I submit to you as we go into a time of prayer.
▶ 18:46 I’m gonna use the same song as I used last week we don’t need a mountaintop experience and we don’t need to go into the cesspools of sin in the valley we just need to get on our knees and Jesus will find us Jesus will meet with us and the Bible says if any man be in Christ he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things are made now. We can find Jesus and he can turn us into a people that bring forth the fruits of the kingdom and equip us to reach the nation’s and unfruitful believers we don’t want to forget about the believers. So if you will join with me in prayer this morning let’s get down underneath and let’s seek Jesus for about eight minutes and there is some things on the screen to remind you what we’re praying for and let’s just ask God to come to us and meet with us on our needs.
