Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Pastor David G. Kincer compares how the four gospels begin. Mark opens with John the Baptist preaching repentance at the Jordan without a building or band. Luke writes an orderly account, Matthew traces Jesus to David and Abraham, and John declares the Word made flesh. God the Father imparts belief, and believers bear fruit as He prunes them.
How does Mark begin?
Short answer: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; a messenger prepares the way.
▶ 0:00 Thank you for joining us online thank you for joining us in the room it’s good to have everyone. The worship team could come we’re going to get started with worship this morning. Scriptures say of course where two or three are gathered there he is in our midst and we are here to meet with Jesus this morning. And I was reminding the young people recently. That Jesus is walking by. When Jesus was walking on the water to the disciples it says that he would have passed them by but he stopped and he began to talk to his disciples in the boat on the road to emmaus he was talking with the two gentlemen and he asked them questions. And they started talking with him later they said did not our hearts burn within us and it says as they as they came to the spot where they came to go home Jesus was just going to keep on going but they constrained him they stopped him and I’ve reminded the young people many times you know the Bible says that he’s on our midst but he is just going to walk right by unless we get a hold of him and bring him right in and say Jesus I want you here I want you with me this morning and this morning as we worship.
▶ 1:23 As we hear God’s word let it you gotta get God abiding in you you gotta get him with you don’t just let him pass by amen. ▶ 7:38 Oh no forever I am changedged. Yes. Amen are you washed in the blood of Jesus. Hallelujah are you washed. In the blood in the soul cleansing blood of the lamb are your garments spotless are they white that snow are you watched.
▶ 8:48 Are your garments spotless are they white as snow are you washed in the blood. Are you fully trusting in his grace. ▶ 10:01 I’ll be washed in the blood of are you washed in the blood of the lamb. Are your garments spotless are they white as though are you washed in the blood of the lamb. Of the land.
▶ 11:27 So. Lay aside your garments at are stained with sin and be washed in the blood of the lamb. There’s the mountains. In the blood of the land.
▶ 12:22 Land. Spotless. Lay aside the garments that are. Stained. In the blood.
▶ 13:18 Jesus. Lord we thank you for your blood we thank you that it cleanses us from all sins and that you ascended to the right hand of the father interceding for us Lord we thank you for what you have done for us Jesus.
▶ 14:14 Hallelujah. Will your soul be ready for the mansions. In.
▶ 15:17 Are your garments. Spotless. Are you washed in the blood. The blood. That. Jesus. The blood that gives me.

▶ 17:30 Day. It will never. Lose. Its power. Before it. Reaches. Blood that gives me. Strength. The blood that.
▶ 18:23 Jesus shed. For me. The blood that gives me strength. It’s. Is. Is.
▶ 19:50 Is. Jesus. Christ. Lord Jesus we thank you for the this morning God we ask. Lord Jesus that you speak to us through your word this morning that your word would penetrate our hearts. Jesus Lord that would convince us to get back on track.
▶ 20:43 Jesus follow you wholeheartedly like the disciples did Jesus. And Lord we thank you for being patient with us through everything every situation and every stage that we’re in Jesus. You are a wonderful God we love you we thank you Jesus this pastor comes give a message you may find your seats. Okay we have been talking about God the father. The Lord Jesus Christ imparts his belief his faith his glory and his presence to mankind. Last week we showed you the more God reveals. The more belief in us builds he does the revealing he causes us to believe and then this second session we’re going to take a look at believing in the beginnings.
▶ 21:48 So we’re going to go to the gospel of mark and we’re going to start at chapter 1 verse 1. In the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the son of God now here mark is repeating exactly what John wrote in his gospel that all these things were written there were many things Jesus did that are not written but these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ the son of God and believing you might have life and so mark is repeating that at the very beginning of his gospel. And then he goes and quotes a scripture out of the Old Testament Isaiah 40 verse 3. Behold I send my messenger before your face.
▶ 22:44 Who will prepare your way before you so mark is telling us that Isaiah is talking about a messenger a preacher a minister before Jesus comes to prepare the way of Jesus Christ the voice of one crying in the wilderness prepare you the way of the Lord make his past straight. And then. Mark. Says plainly who that messenger is John the Baptist came baptizing in the wilderness. Just like Isaiah said preaching. Six things here number one a water baptism. Number two repentance turning from sin.
Scripture in this part
Mark 1:1-3 (NKJV)
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’ ”
— Mark 1:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:48What did John preach?
Short answer: A baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
▶ 23:40 For the remission of sin for the pardon the forgiveness of sin it’s going to give six steps here water baptism. Repenting turning from sin. Now. His beginning. Is 30 a.d. When he starts his gospel he starts covering it from the time John started preaching. And that’s around 30 a.d. He goes on to say. Then all the land of Judah. And those from Jerusalem. Went out. To him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan river confessing their sins so number three they confess their sins repented from their sins and were water baptized for the remission of sin okay but the key here is.
Scripture in this part
Mark 1:4 (NKJV)
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
— Mark 1:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:40What did John have?
Short answer: No building and no band, out at the Jordan; God didn’t make it easy.
▶ 24:41 They went out to him. See. They. He had no building he was out there on the river of Jordan no building no air conditioning no nursery program no children’s program no youth program no financial. Seminar. No family counseling. None of these things that we have today. No 12-step program no seven-step program he’s just got a six-step message. On how to be pardoned from sin. And uh he didn’t go door-to-door knocking on doors he didn’t pass out gospel tracks.
▶ 25:34 He didn’t have a musical band. He didn’t have a bass and a drums and the singers he was out there all by himself preaching this six-step. Message of forgiveness of sin and they came to him. They came to him he didn’t have apologetics he wasn’t trying to convince him that the Bible is a book of truth by how many copies we have of it and and all this stuff. Nothing about apologetics just a message a living message from God hallelujah isn’t that what the world needs a living message from God. So so you get the picture of this here is judea at the time of Christ it’s over 40 miles from the mediterranean sea to where John was baptizing and he’s baptizing on the other side of Jordan so when they got to Jordan they had to swim across.
▶ 26:40 Or wade across or take a boat across or something. God didn’t make it easy for these people. To get forgiveness for their sin. And yet they came. He had no radio no tv. No internet. Somehow they heard his message. Preaching right in this area all the way down here and over here isn’t that amazing. How many believe God can do that today. The living word from God bring them out of their homes out of their places where they’re at and it doesn’t mean all judea came everyone but people from all the other areas of judea came to hear his message so we continue.
Scripture in this part
Mark 1:5 (NKJV)
Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
— Mark 1:5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:41What did John tell the multitudes?
Short answer: Bring forth fruit worthy of repentance; trees without good fruit are cut down.
▶ 27:37 Here’s the fourth thing he preached John said to the multitudes it came to be baptized. Thousands of people were coming multitudes were coming not just a handful. There were some that came. As lookie-loos to observe. And he turned to these looky-loos these observers and to everybody that was being baptized and he adds another dimension to the message bring forth fruit worthy of repentance don’t just be sorry for your sins turn from your sins and show it by your speech and by your lifestyle. Does that just. Speak of common sense if I’m going to turn I’m going to stop what I’m doing yes okay so that’s the fourth thing.
▶ 28:30 Bring forth fruit worthy of repentance. And then number five. He says trees without good fruit. Are going to be cut down and cast into the fire. Okay so these that repented. And didn’t bring forth fruit their tree all the branches that should have been bringing forth fruit all the areas of fruit they’re supposed to be producing they weren’t producing any so. God takes his spiritual acts and cuts them down now it’s important that you know he used the terminology of the ax cutting them down and not the tree uprooted. The other places the trees were uprooted the roots were bad if the root is bad.
Scripture in this part
Luke 3:8-9 (NKJV)
Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
— Luke 3:8-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 27:37What is the root?
Short answer: Jesus; He prunes rather than casts out.
▶ 29:29 See Jesus is the root am I right so if your root is bad and you don’t have Jesus down there supplying the nourishment supplying the life then you’ve got to be uprooted. But here it’s cut down why because that tree can grow back. Hallelujah. If you cut a tree down by the stump that tree because the roots are still good and supplying life a branch will start growing up and several can many can’t and get back to a tree and this time produce fruit aren’t you glad God doesn’t throw you out that he just pruned you and cut you down amen and he doesn’t even have to cut the tree down if you just have a couple of branches not bringing forth fruit he can just prune those branches and new branches will grow out.
▶ 30:30 Amen. How many went through the pruning of God yeah yeah yeah see he isn’t out to cast you into the pit into the lake of fire he is out to finish the good work he began in you and that’s why that’s important all right so. The sixth step after me comes one mightier than me. He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire now he’s saying the messiah the Christ is coming the son of God is coming with a greater message he’s a greater person than I am and he’s not only going to baptize you in water but he’s going to baptize you in the power of the Holy Ghost and fire so he pointed to Jesus just like Isaiah said just like mark quoted out of Isaiah.
▶ 31:27 A messenger before you to prepare the way before Christ that’s exactly what John the Baptist was amen. And so he started in 30 a.d and you’ll find these things in Mark 1:7 Luke 3:7 and Matthew 3:7. So God the father imparts belief in faith by hearing God’s message to confess repent be water baptized for the remission of sin and to bring forth fruit the publicans the soldiers and the people all ask him when he said. The tree’s going to be cut down you know and bring forth fruit they said what do we do to bring forth fruit and he answered everyone in the understanding of loving your neighbor he told the soldiers don’t do violence to any man be content with your wages don’t accuse anyone falsely see that’s loving your neighbor don’t do anything to hurt other people am I right and he went down the line.
Scripture in this part
John 15:2 (NKJV)
Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
— John 15:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 30:30How does Luke begin?
Short answer: An orderly account so you may know the certainty of what you were taught.
▶ 33:32 I write to you an orderly account most excellent Theophilus. So you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed so these people say that you know they attacked the Bible they said you know it’s just written by men and all this this guy plainly says he’s done his research and he has perfect understanding of everything and he’s writing to a noble man a man in high position and he wants that noble man to know the exact details and the arrangement the order of it and he goes on to say there was in the days of Herod king of Judah zacharias a priest and his wife elizabeth. Both were righteous before God walking in all the laws people say we’re not under law we’re under grace do not know what they’re saying.
▶ 34:26 It’s the shadow laws we’re not under it’s the law of sin and death we’re not under. Amen we’re not under the law of sin and death we’re not under the shadow laws we’re under the fulfillment of the shadow laws Jesus says the lamb. The lamb sacrifice was a shadow law of Jesus to come to die and all the rest of those shadow laws. So see these people were righteous and all the laws and ordinances that’s those shadow laws of the Lord blameless were they blameless or is Luke lying. They were blameless. Hallelujah. We were not saved from sin to sin. Keep sinning. We were saved to grow. And become righteous people in condition. The blood makes us righteous in position.
Scripture in this part
Luke 1:3-4 (NKJV)
it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
— Luke 1:3-4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 33:32What about new believers?
Short answer: They may speak wrongly while growing; consistently walking in sin is different.
▶ 35:20 While we’re growing to our condition. You got that. And a new believer they may speak wrongly and may be doing things wrongly that’s okay they’ve got to what grow as they hear the word that’s why Jesus said if you to the believers if you continue in my word then you’ll be my disciples indeed and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free these believers still needed what some setting free. Are you with me see and say yes God gives us time to grow. And you know that inside his witness bears witness with our spirit his spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are sons of God. I’m not going to hell because I’m a young Christian and haven’t overcome an area in my life.
▶ 36:18 Could that be an amen. Now if I consistently. Want to walk. In sin that’s a different story isn’t it. Hallelujah now. They had no child and they were well advanced in years. Okay this started around zero bc or zero a d. When the angel came and visited. Zechariah. And elizabeth had a miraculous birth when she was past the age of child. Birthing she had a child and mary had a miraculous child Jesus so this started. Luke’s gospel started at 0 bc are you following me the beginnings.
How does Matthew begin?
Short answer: The genealogy of Jesus Christ, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
▶ 37:13 Now so let’s go. To Matthew. In Matthew. Starts out the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ there it is again he’s repeating what the other one said this is about Jesus the messiah the anointed one the Christ. The son of God just like John did just like mark did these gospels are about Jesus Christ the son of God amen and having eternal life. Boy if we would just stick with that and not get off on these tangents and build a church on some dumb scripture over there especially Paul’s gospel I’m calling it now we leave the gospel of Christ and start following Paul’s gospel. Because Paul’s hard to understand Peter said.
▶ 38:10 And people twisted so he acknowledges that Jesus is the Christ the son of God the son of David. All right. The Bible in the Old Testament said Jesus had to come through the bloodline of David to be a king and the bloodline of Abraham. Who would send forth the seed that would turn his people from their sin. Amen so Matthew is picking up on that he’s going back to a 000 years when God made that promise to David. That I’m going to raise up your seat Jesus and he’s going to rule over my people and he’s going to build a house you remember that he’s going to build the house the church and how do you know he better be building the house not people.
▶ 39:11 So then he goes back to 2000 years before Christ and brings out the promise to Abraham. So his beginning is 2 000 years before and then he talks about the coming of Christ and so forth. Then we go to the gospel of John. So mark started at 30 a.d. Luke started at 0 a.d around that air. Matthew started 1000 to 2000 bc. And now. John is going to go all the way back to the creation. Talking about Jesus the messiah Jesus the Christ the son of God and eternal life.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 1:1 (NKJV)
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
— Matthew 1:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 37:13Why four gospels?
Short answer: God gave each a slant on things.
▶ 40:06 Now you know why there were four gospels written. God had gave each one up a little slant on things that were important now. John 1:1 says in the beginning was the word. Okay. And and folks this is so clear to me this this just clears everything up. In the beginning. Was the word. The word was with God okay in the beginning was the word. And the word was with God. Is this stand with me.
How does John begin?
Short answer: In the beginning was the Word; all things were made by Him; the Word became flesh.
▶ 40:59 Is this stand by itself. Is this stand with me all right now. The word was with God the word was. God. Am I the husband of rebecca kinser. Am I the father of James and Jordan. Am I the son of willie b. Kinser how many people am I. One. All right. Now. The word was what. God the word was what God when at the beginning of time at the beginning of creation.
▶ 42:00 All things were created by him. Were they. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth then God said to the word and it was the word God said let there be light God said let the dry land appear the word the word. The word. Okay God said let there be a great light to rule the day and a lesser great light to rule the night the word. Are you with me. Now all things were created by him and then God said let us. Create man in our likeness and in our image our hour. Are you there.
▶ 43:01 Isn’t the mystery of the godhead amazing. All right didn’t God say in Genesis after they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil man has become like one of us. Us. God the father God the son God the Holy Ghost. Right at the beginning what moved on the face of the waters. The spirit of God all three are there. And how many people are they. One does the Bible say they are one God yes these people that say that Christians serve three gods are distorting what we believe in you understand that hallelujah. Because they want to undermine the Bible and all that there is one God now and so John brings this out very clearly.
▶ 44:02 All things were created by him. Verse 14 the word was made flesh. And dwelt among us the word. God was made flesh say it God was made flesh. Why do we know that because the word was God. God was made flesh and dwelt amongst us and we beheld his glory the glory as the only begotten son of the father. Hallelujah. So who was that flesh that God was in Jesus Christ. That’s why Jesus said it’s not me that does these works. It’s my father in me doing these works.
▶ 44:58 And you say well how can that be well it’s very easy are we the temple of God does God dwell in me does God dwell in you. Was God dwelling in Jesus duh. Are you there. God in that fleshly body was God. Just like he is in you he can be everywhere. He isn’t talking to himself he’s talking of himself when he said this is my beloved son in whom I’ve well-pleased he’s not talking to himself he’s talking of himself. Well that was good you got it hallelujah see we tried under things with our natural mind okay so John really straightened this thing out.
▶ 45:56 Going back to the very creation. And then in verse 30. John the Baptist says he that comes after me I mean. He Jesus the begotten of the father comes after me and was what. Before me. This person that I’m going to point to and prepare the way for the one I’m going to tell you is the lamb of God he was is coming after me like Isaiah said I’m preparing the way but he was what before me. He lived. 4 000 years ago he was with the father he was the word he was the father.
Scripture in this part
John 1:1-3 (NKJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
— John 1:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 40:59John 1:14 (NKJV)
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
— John 1:14 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 44:02Why so many denominations?
Short answer: They take one verse and make a doctrine.
▶ 46:55 Hallelujah. And why do we have so many protestant denominations because they’ll take a verse and make a church out of it. Instead of just believing what God said there’s one God Jesus was God. When he came he was God the Holy Spirit is God because it’s the spirit of God hallelujah. Very powerful very very powerful. Now. I submit to you today. Do you believe. Do you have faith. That Jesus is the Christ the messiah the anointed one prophesied to come.
▶ 47:55 The only conceived son of God. The only human being that was birthed without a natural father the spiritual father God birth Jesus Christ. I submit to you today that if that belief and that faith came by hearing God’s word to confess your sins. Repent from your sins. Be water baptized. All of this for the remission the pardon the cleansing of sin. And to bring forth the good fruit of repentance. And to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and its power. I submit to you.
Who imparts faith?
Short answer: God the Father imparts belief, not mankind.
▶ 48:48 That it was God the father. That imparted that belief that faith. Unto you. Not mankind. This stuff doesn’t come through human activity. It comes through divine activity to humans. Amen. Hallelujah I remember as a young Christian praying and I’m telling God uh boy I came to you. You’re so blessed God that I chose you. And as I got into the word and started understanding the word I had later had to apologize and go okay God. Ye I didn’t choose you you chose me. You chose me and you drug me into your kingdom in spite of my resistance in spite of my unbeliefs and all the rest you just kept bringing me to yourself isn’t that what Jesus said you have not chosen me I have what chosen you and you responded.
▶ 49:59 As I revealed myself to you. I caused your faith to build I cause your belief to build I cause you to respond. Get water baptized turn from your sin I did that in you so who gets all the credit. Him. Not me myself and I isn’t that beautiful. As the musicians come this morning. And that’s found in Matthew 16:17. Jesus said Peter flesh and blood has not revealed this unto you that I am the Christ the son of God. But my father in heaven revealed that to you Paul wrote to the Colossians. And said. Our Galatians and said God the father revealed his son unto me.
▶ 50:55 Aren’t you glad that God can come with his supernatural power and reveal his son unto you and not only his son but the father the Holy Spirit the truth of God’s word and we can grow in God as he keeps revealing himself to us and his word to us amen. Hallelujah there’s a song we’re going to sing. You are God you are God God it covers this you’re a God of the heavens you’re the God of the earth he created everything you are God of our savior’s virgin birth he conceived Christ Jesus is the savior God in the flesh died on that cross you are God on the cross and God over hell you were God before man and God when he fell and he’s God after we fell amen and he’s building us up and he’s given us eternal life and we’re going to rule and reign with him forever and ever.
▶ 51:58 Let’s stand this morning and let’s sing this song and give father God the credit that is due him in our life. You are God on the cross and God. Overhead. You were gone before man and God when he fed. You. You are God.
▶ 52:53 You are. God. You. Are. You are God in what seems like. happenstance. You are God in every are circumstance who holds. Us you are God.
▶ 53:59 You are God. God you. Are. You are in what seems like happens. You are God in every circumstance you are God when we fall in God when we stand. You are God who holds us in your hands. Hallelujah.
▶ 55:14 You. Are. Before we sing this again. I want to remind you of the message of the gospel. That Jesus is the messiah promised to come the anointed one. The son of God born of a virgin birthed by God himself conceived by God himself. The lamb of God. That died on the cross to take away the sins of the whole world. And if we repent. And we admit we’re wrong.
▶ 56:07 And we turn from those wrong. And start bringing forth the fruit of that repentance. He will impart the faith he will impart the belief he will impart the power the presence. For you to grow from a baby Christian to an adult Christian. And if you do find yourself in a season. Of a bad circumstance you probably created it maybe others created it he is the God in every circumstance he can bring you through this that’s his intent he may cut. Branches off of your tree so new branches can grow out and produce fruit in that area he may have to cut you down to a stump so that a new tree can grow up but he’s always out.
▶ 57:09 To bring you to himself and give you eternal life an abundant life here on earth and as we sing the second verse again. The Holy Spirit is just challenging us to bring our circumstances. To him whatever circumstance you are in and you think there may not be any answer he will give you an answer he will change that circumstance for. You. And if you sinned you just simply repent admit you’re wrong and he forgives and he restores you back to the place where you left off you don’t lose anything from the past he brings you right back to where you left off so as we sing it again I just challenge you by the Holy Spirit to give him your circumstance give him your need and let him be God in your life.
▶ 58:20 Today. Let me. Stand. You are God when it. Seems. You are God in every circumstance. We give you our circumstance today.
▶ 59:16 Lord. We give you our failings. Thank you Lord for picking us up. Thank you for solving our circumstances. You are. You are God. You are God God God again you.
▶ 1:00:13 You are God. You are. God you are God God God. Yes you are. You are God. You are God God God. Let’s thank him for me God let’s accept him as our God. Thank you Lord Jesus thank you father God. Thank you that you’re bigger than our situation. Thank you that you are bigger than our circumstance. Thank you Lord Jesus. For being the messiah the anointed one the lamb of God taking away our sins giving us eternal life and abundant life on us thank you thank you thank you.
▶ 1:01:15 Ah you are my salvation. You are my future you are my solution. You are God you are God you are. God he’s. Sweet I know. He’s. Sleep I know storm clouds may rise. Wherever.
▶ 1:02:17 I. Go. Sweet I know. Father God. We come to you in the name of your son Jesus Christ as you asked us to do. And we thank you Lord that no matter how hard the winds of opposition blow in our life. No matter how stormy our life gets. You’re going to bring us through it. No matter what circumstance we’re in no matter what situation we’re in no matter what mistakes we have made.
▶ 1:03:13 You’re going to prune us. You’re going to feed us. And Lord we’re going to keep growing in you. Lord we thank you this day that we have. That confidence. To know that you are going to finish the good work you begin in us. And Lord not only that but we turn to our brothers and sisters that. Maybe going through circumstances and situations.
