From the sermonBASING YOUR FAITH On THE POWER of GOD 12/3/2017 · Pastor David G. Kincer▶ 0:00

Pastor David G. Kincer asks what your faith is based on and answers from 1 Corinthians 2: not human wisdom or apologetics but the demonstration of the Spirit and power. He points to Abraham’s full persuasion, the gospel of Christ crucified, the power to live a moral life, and Mark 16’s signs following believers—illustrated with demonic encounters and God’s protection on the mission field.

What does it mean to praise through?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: Praise until there is a breakthrough where the Spirit is praising God and giving you new songs. Tongues, interpretation and prophecy must wait for the Spirit’s timing.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 0:00 you need to praise until [unclear] prays through you ever heard the phrase back in the Pentecostal world we got to pray through well there’s another phrase we got to praise through it you know prayer is great and so is praise amen. You praise until there’s a breakthrough where the spirit is praising God that’s the high praises not you sacrificing the praise the spirits giving you the words to say and that’s how you sing new songs and I notice over the past few weeks God is giving you examples of spiritual things being done in the service tongues and interpretation okay we prophesy a lot but tongues and interpretation and those of you are waiting for the vision I got to wait for the timing okay.

▶ 0:56 I’ll just be honest with you they spoke in tongues that the spirit gave them utterance and unless the spirit’s talking you better keep quiet could that be an amen now God gave me the vision two Sundays ago right here in this service right there and I still got it but I told you before I had gotten prophecies a month before I could ever speak [unclear] in a church I mean I would be working on a car and God would give me a prophetic word it didn’t mean I get up and prophesy to everybody around I have to wait for the timing and the season when God wants to say it could that be an amen and it’s the same way with the vision it is a good message but I gotta wait so you’re gonna have to wait.

What are spiritual songs?

▶ Watch this part (1:50)

Short answer: New songs God gives you, birthed by the Spirit—not just one note but whole songs.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 1:50 Alleluia and we can’t live on these things but God is showing us examples and today praise he was emphasizing praise and a new song and we can sing new songs. alright I sang two of them this morning I have sang songs with a beat with a chord change and everything else this church just isn’t catching yeah. isn’t that right have I done that yeah. Yeah. Alleluia and it isn’t just one note song so you can sing a a total song and they’re new because God gives them to you and they’re spiritual songs because the spirit birthed them okay.

What is your faith based on?

▶ Watch this part (2:40)

Short answer: He asks the congregation: the word, Jesus, experience, the Bible’s historical accuracy? Base means the main ingredient everything else is built on.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 2:40 Don’t we want to be a church where the spirit can perform what he said he would do and this message goes along with it today by the way I’m gonna ask you this question so you get out an invisible piece of paper and get out your invisible pencil okay get it up you’re ready to write down write down what your faith is based on what your faith is based in base means the main ingredient or principle to which all other principles and ingredients are built on so what is your foundational faith. Write it down. Now what’s yours Larry the word what’s yours.

▶ 3:36 You haven’t written yet. God the father Jesus. Jesus and the word give me one. The word. Experience in Jesus okay how many [unclear] faith based on the word let me see your hand how many is it based on Jesus let me see your hand [unclear] is it based on experience in Jesus ah. A new door was open. this guy’s close. this guy’s very close okay alright for those of you chose the scriptures prove that the Bible is an authentic book of truth to me. Really.

▶ 4:30 Yes. So the proof is him. Abiding in you to live for him that’s right okay I mean [unclear] agree with that okay. What proof give me another proof proof at the Bible yes. Its historical accuracy okay. All right we’re gonna find out if that is true this morning historical accuracy all right. Yeah that’s what he was saying right yeah that’s what he was saying absolutely but only three people raised their hand and agreed [unclear].

What did Paul base his preaching on?

▶ Watch this part (5:23)

Short answer: First Corinthians 2: not excellence of speech or man’s wisdom, but demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so your faith would stand in the power of God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 5:23 No we’re talking about the basic thing we put our faith in that all the rest is built on okay. Proof to me Jesus exists. Why would you even want to try. now because these are the things people are gonna ask you all right now I’m gonna give you this morning the basic faith that everything is built on ready are you interested yes. First Corinthians chapter 2 I didn’t come to you Corinthians with excellence of speech or human wisdom I didn’t come to you with using historical facts.

▶ 6:20 Science of physical world around you or logical reasoning I didn’t come to you [unclear]. isn’t that interesting and isn’t that powerful. My speech was not my speech and preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom I didn’t come to persuade you. With the intellect of natural things that that that are accepted as evidence I didn’t come to do that I didn’t come to persuade you with historical. Scientific which is knowledge of the physical world and logical reason I didn’t come with those things wow.

▶ 7:18 But in demonstration of the spirit and of power. Wow. isn’t that powerful I didn’t come to convince you with intellectual debates I. Come to demonstrate to show the proof by the spirit and the power of a supernatural God exactly what [unclear] said exactly what Mike said. See. That is our basic faith that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men. It’s not in the science of physical stuff it’s not in reason and natural logic it’s not in historical documents and historical facts your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man because that’s what men look to but in the what power of God and that’s what Mike said you see it’s the experience God comes to us we experience him he does something in our life spiritually that causes us to turn our life and live for him there.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (NKJV)

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

— 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:07

What was Abraham’s faith?

▶ Watch this part (8:49)

Short answer: Romans 4:21: fully persuaded that God had power to perform what he promised, and it was credited as righteousness. Faith is in Christ’s power to save, keep and fill.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 8:49 So in the red you have the statement your faith should stand in the power of God. Hallelujah that includes the word the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword that includes Jesus. But I want to show you by another example how this is the foundation of our faith. Romans 4:21 Abraham being fully persuaded what’s another word for faith. Persuade. Persuade faith is being persuaded all right he is being what fully persuaded he had full faith that God had power to do what he promised so was Abraham’s faith just in I believe in God no Abraham’s faith is he believed this God had the power to perform what he promised exactly what Paul said here amen.

▶ 10:00 Now if this is true folks and and by the way it was credited to him as righteousness. See it isn’t because I believed in Jesus that I’m credited as righteous it’s I believed that Jesus had the power to save me the power to keep me the power to give me eternal life the power to fill me with the Holy Spirit of power see my faith is in the power the supernatural ability of Jesus Christ. Amen that’s what was counted unto him for righteousness now when you read the books they just write like because you believe in God God counts you as righteous no it’s the power. if any man be in Christ he is a [unclear] okay how do we get to be a new creature the power.

What does he say about apologetics books?

▶ Watch this part (10:57)

Short answer: He says writers like Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel defend their own beliefs—and Catholics, Jews, Muslims and atheists have apologetics too. Atheists “rip them apart.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 10:57 Now if the power is important shouldn’t we as a church when we come together be looking for the demonstration of the power yeah and I and I notice God one by one the speaking in tongues and interpretation and prophecy and the new songs today and and then this vision and so forth God is trying to get us back to focusing on letting the spirit manifest himself in the service not just going through three [unclear] songs and then going into a message and an announcement now. It’s imperative that God touches people oh. Yeah. let’s see we have the confirmation. Josh McDowell.. Evidence that demands a verdict wrote another book new evidence that demands a verdict the [unclear] and all of these guys there’s over 100 apologists writing.

▶ 11:57 Protestant books. Apologist is defending the faith actually they’re defending their faith I know Josh McDowell does not believe in the baptism of Holy Ghost what speaking in tongues I’ve known Josh McDowell for years okay I know Josh McDowell believes in angels having sex with human women and some kind of creature was birthed right I know Josh McDowell believes in the pre-tribulation rapture and so forth basically what I’m telling you he is defending his faith. Lee Strobel is defending his faith all these other writers are defending their faith and they’ll use the canonization of the Bible and the historical documents and the close to the original and all this stuff but the atheist just rip them apart if you ever get on the atheist page and read what they think about Josh McDowell they just rip them apart.

▶ 13:00 Because really they’re they’re telling you what they believe. Are you there and when I get on Facebook and and get into a Christian blog I just sit there watching these people talk nonsense just human intelligence no power at all they’re just arguing back and forth over things that don’t matter and by the way [unclear] first Corinthians 2 Paul said I come preaching Christ and him crucified that gospel is the power of God unto salvation Christ and him crucified when we get away from that everybody starts getting their own opinions on everything [unclear]. Now. Canonization of the Bible what Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel and these other guys don’t tell you is that the Catholics have their own canonization of the Bible the Orthodox church has their canonization of the Bible the books you got all these different accepted books of the Bible by different groups they don’t tell you that in the book all right and they also don’t tell you that there’s other apologetic books are you with me for instance the Catholics have an apologetic book [unclear] in the Catholic faith they’re gonna defend Mary they’re gonna defend the idols they’re gonna defend why because that’s what they believe.

▶ 14:32 Are you with me see none of these guys hit that other people have apologetic books too in fact the Jews here’s the Encyclopedia of the Jews apologetics they’re defending their religion and part of their religion is Jesus Christ is not the messiah isn’t that right and they’re going to explain to you why he’s not the messiah but that’s their faith it’s not the faith of God then the Bible says to have the faith of God yeah you know you don’t have any room for your faith. [unclear] you’re learning something alleluia. the Muslims have an apologetic book No God but God the Origins Evolution and Future of Islam see they’re defending their faith and you.

How does he know the Bible is true?

▶ Watch this part (15:27)

Short answer: Because he operated the principle: he repented, felt the load of sin lift, was water baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. Like a working formula, it proved true.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 15:27 Without writing a book when you are defending your faith and not what is really scriptural truth you’re an apologist. Without writing a book are you hearing me. That’s why Paul said I didn’t come to you with this kind of stuff I came to you and demonstration of the spirit and power and folks what I liked about the Pentecostals the charismatics [unclear] I’m neither one because we have some differences in the order of a service I believe in order I believe that the spirit is a gentleman and he does things very orderly and he does things timely and he does things accurately and [unclear] like the vision I got it wasn’t given to me to speak that morning and I thought I could speak at the next Sunday but I couldn’t you can’t do something unless the spirit if you really want to do it right gives you the release are you with me now.

▶ 16:34 The atheists have an apologetic book they defend their faith I mean you know that supreme court has ruled that atheism is a religion they have a faith and doctrines. That there is no God that makes them a religion when I told my atheist brother [unclear] no atheist anymore because he didn’t want anything to do with religion well anytime you start being persuaded of something you become a human made religion all right and here there’s no God but they had the Enjoying Life Without Illusions it’s an apologetic defense of their faith and these people don’t tell you that but Paul sums it up really easy I knew and I could answer Josh McDowell when he started this [unclear] decades ago and I’ll prove the Bible’s true I could stand up and say I know it’s true just like these two said God I repented of my sins I admitted I was a sinner I asked Jesus to forgive me and lo and behold something happened inside of me and I didn’t understand it at the time I.

▶ 17:53 felt a load going off of my life I didn’t even know I had a load of sin like that and then there was a desire to serve Christ and then two weeks later next week I got water baptized and God came in that water baptism and just shook me to the bone with his presence and the next week I was filled with the Holy Spirit I know the Bible is true because I operated the principle and the principle was real I experienced it. Alleluia so I don’t need any documentation or anything just like any kind of book a math book or a chemistry book if you operate the formula and it comes up with the solution then you know it’s true isn’t that right see if I work the mathematical equation to build a building and it works I know that mathematical book is true amen yes and that’s why we know by the power and that power that brings us in can sustain us I don’t.

Where is the power in churches today?

▶ Watch this part (19:01)

Short answer: He says Catholic services are ritual, Protestants swayed to psychology, and even spirit-filled churches don’t take time for the Spirit to move.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 19:01 Now. My question is the Holy Spirit’s question is where is the power of people’s faith today. when do the Catholics even take time to let there be a demonstration of spirit and power it’s just a ritualistic service [unclear] I’ve been in there I was in there just about two or three years ago in the Catholic service okay. Protestant. We have swayed since I got saved from the power of the spirit to psychology to [unclear] mentally. Get people to believe what we believe is just a big-time human thing even spirit-filled churches.

What is the gospel to preach?

▶ Watch this part (19:55)

Short answer: Mark 16:15: Christ and him crucified—the virgin-born Messiah who taught the kingdom, did miracles, laid down his life and took it again. That is where the power is.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 19:55 a big percent aren’t taking time to let the spirit move anymore. You know you know I am a Pentecostal and I am not ashamed you know and we dance and all that and there’s no power in it we get all worked up emotionally with the music and so forth folks back when I got saved it wasn’t like that there was a presence of God there was dealings of God in the inner man I watched many of people at that altar just God burning sin out of their life and God working in their life filling of the Holy Ghost things happening all right. the Jews they don’t present any power the Muslims don’t present any power and neither do the atheists because they don’t believe in supernatural power now in Mark 16:15.

▶ 20:57 go preach the what gospel not your opinions like Paul said and in 1st Corinthians 2 I didn’t have it on the board but he says I came preaching Christ and him crucified and demonstrating the power of that Christ’s coming and crucifying. Himself for us okay the gospel is the promised messiah the virgin birth messiah the messiah that taught the kingdom of God the messiah that did miracles walking on water calming the seas and different things the messiah that healed the sick raised the dead and the messiah that laid down his life because no one could take it and picked it back up again. That’s where the power is the gospel after that we can add to our faith things that build us.

▶ 21:56 Amen after your faith virtue goodness is there anything wrong with that and goodness well where we go wrong is everybody starts interpreting goodness. Goodness is goodness good doesn’t hurt good is the opposite of bad okay and I can go on anyway. Everybody’s trying to get converts am I right yeah and they’re trying to get converts to their faith and if they follow apologetic books they’re going to be preaching the apologetic faith if they follow the New Testament they’re going to preach Christ him crucified and the power that he gave back to the church on the day of Pentecost. Amen.

What is the power for?

▶ Watch this part (22:53)

Short answer: You shall receive power—not only to heal but to stay married, raise your kids, work and stay out of debt, living a Bible moral life.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 22:53 You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you. Now how can the church say we got the power when we can’t even stay married. We can’t raise our kids we can’t even control our kids we can’t control our finances we get in debt and we don’t prepare and get a career we don’t work and we’re on welfare where’s the power. You know power isn’t just healing the sick and walking on water the power is living a Bible moral life in this world of darkness could that be an amen the power to love my wife and stick with her the power to raise my kids in the nurture and admonition of the Lord the power to work and provide for my home the power not to get into debt and not be able to pay my debts are you with me that’s power where is it.

What does Mark 16:16 say?

▶ Watch this part (23:59)

Short answer: He who believes and is baptized will be saved—a sixth grader could read it. He says apologists who drop water baptism pass on nonsense.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 23:59 The Bible says deliver yourself from this wicked and perverse generation where is that happening and a large percentage in any religious group. Are you with me hallelujah. the power is where our faith should be [unclear] based on now he who believes and is baptized will be saved now if I brought in a sixth grader and from the school and I read this sentence to them and asked them a sentence is a complete thought and I would say now student what does that mean they’re going to say a person who believes in the gospel and gets baptized will be saved but not apologetics. Apologetics said oh no no no no no no you can believe and be saved because the Bible says if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe [unclear] God raised him from the dead we shall be saved we don’t water baptism this is apologetic they don’t believe in water baptism some of them and they pass this nonsense on did Jesus get water baptized does the Bible say to follow Jesus does the Bible say that Jesus is our example yes who has a right to tell you that this doesn’t mean you need to believe and get baptized nobody.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Mark 16:16 (NKJV)

He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Who will signs follow?

▶ Watch this part (25:33)

Short answer: Believers: in Jesus’ name they cast out devils, speak new tongues and lay hands on the sick. He describes confronting demonic manifestations and witch doctors.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 25:33 There’s no interpretation here it’s exactly what it says and it’s exactly what it says throughout the New Testament isn’t that right. and this one really divides the church these signs what is a sign a supernatural event. Above human abilities above human or natural powers signs shall follow who believers not just apostles not just prophets not just Joel Osteen or whoever these people are elevated to some guru they will follow who believers are you a believer have you put your trust in Jesus believer is putting their trust in Jesus and his word all right it’s much stronger than faith.

▶ 26:38 In my name in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth God’s only begotten son that’s the full name of God. There’s no other only begotten son. These signs and then he says they’re gonna cast out devils speak in new languages a new language is the language you didn’t know before and lay hands on the sick and the sick will recover. Now here because we don’t believe in it the apologist says it’s not for today nowhere in the Bible does it say it’s not for [unclear] nowhere. The Bible says God is the same yesterday today and forever you know right let me give you a scenario. You’re in the church and this is you’re talking to this woman and all of a sudden her eyeballs roll back in her head she starts mumbling something that’s supposed to be demonic and she starts lifting her dress what are you gonna do go get the pastor.

▶ 27:58 [unclear] another guy come into my office turns his back toward me and says something and then he turns back and his eyeballs are in the back of his head and he starts talking in this supposedly demonic voice and all that and says do you have the power to cast me out what are you gonna do. you’re gonna take him up on his offer and make a display. So he can go out and pick that demon up again. Are you gonna listen to the Holy Spirit and do what the spirit tells you to do. You’re in a third world nation and the witch doctors come to challenge the church and the.

▶ 28:52 People are afraid God’s people are afraid God’s ministers are afraid to deal with these witch doctors. What are you going to do. you’re gonna say there’s no demons for today [unclear] ain’t no witch that’s all baloney when it’s right there in front of you what are you going to do. Believers can do something when they’re connected to the spirit and their focus is right the spirit will give you at that opportune time what to do. I’m talking from own experiences okay what are you gonna do when a guy you’re talking to suddenly starts beating himself literally beating himself with his fist and talking in a tone of voice that no human can talk in it’s absolutely impossible for a human voice to talk that way we don’t have the vocal cords for it and it’s coming from down inside it’s demonic.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)

And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

— Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 26:05 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What about serpents and poison?

▶ Watch this part (29:59)

Short answer: Paul shook off the viper; David slew a lion and bear; God healed Marah’s waters and the poisoned pot. You don’t tempt God, but he protects you in danger.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 29:59 What are you gonna do. now the apologists want to take this whole [unclear] from nine through the end of the chapter out because it wasn’t in a copy that they found before the other copies they want to take it out why because their faith don’t allow this stuff. They laugh at people speaking in tongues and to be honest with you from my records even in pentecostal and charismatic churches only thirty percent of the people actually speak in tongues but that goes right with the scripture do all speak with tongues do all do miracles and do all prophets yeah we don’t God gives different gifts isn’t that right no no you don’t have to feel left out because you don’t speak in tongues God is going to use you in a different way and that it’s perfectly okay we need all the things brought together [unclear] but they want to just get rid of it and this plainly says new tongue tongue languages that you didn’t know before I.

▶ 31:11 Spoke in some this morning over there quietly to myself and interpreted it so I could get the meaning and. it doesn’t mean you know God’s going to do that through [unclear] in the church we have them all operating and they lay hands on the sick and they recover or Peter’s shadow was healing people [unclear] women touching Jesus the hem of his garment was healing people but there’s also the laying on of hands amen and this is the one that really gets them. They will take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not harm them now this is all one topic. they shall take up snakes [unclear] or also even if they drink poison they will not be harmed.

▶ 32:07 Serpents don’t harm them the poison don’t harm them now every one of these is fulfilled in the book of acts but the poison. See Paul when he gathered wood a viper was in it he put it in the fire the viper came out from the heat and bit him and he shook the viper off into the fire and the people go all oh he’s done some bad stuff and it’s caught up with him and then when nothing happened they say he’s a God you see so we literally had not a taking up of a serpent because they’re trying to prove [unclear] faith you don’t prove your faith your faith comes from God amen. And let me tell you this in the Old Testament did David slay a lion and a bear yeah.

▶ 33:05 Why do we think this is so strange that God would protect us from serpents when David slew a lion and a bear did Samson [unclear] a lion yeah did Daniel [unclear] the lions [unclear] go to sleep yeah why do we think it’s so strange why do we think that we got to explain just take it out because you know Christians don’t handle snakes no they don’t and we don’t go look for a lion to kill either. But if we’re in this situation let me tell you this. Over in the Old Testament did they come to the waters of Marah and the waters were bitter and they couldn’t drink them did they throw a tree into that big

▶ 33:59 Spring and the waters were healed okay what do we think it’s strange if God could protect them and and remember when the prophets were together and they all gathered some food and they gonna make a pot of stew or something and then they take a taste and [unclear] in the pot [unclear] and then the prophet put meal in now [unclear] we know physically Scientifically won’t do anything to poison. But when God tells you to put meal into a pot bam. He could have said anything he could have put a rock in it or whatever I don’t know there is no physical. Explanation for that it is supernatural so why do we think that [unclear] poison won’t hurt us shouldn’t be in the Bible when you go to third world countries like I had and you preach out in the jungles.

However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. How did God protect him overseas?

▶ Watch this part (35:01)

Short answer: He describes parasites and bad water, a fungus after eating the wrong food, and fleeing guerrillas through the jungle in El Salvador with perfect peace.

▶ 35:01 Where there is no toilets there’s no you know there’s no hygiene I mean man things they’re parasites you can get parasites if you walk barefooted in third-world countries you got a great chance of getting. Permanently disabled or dying because the parasites will bore through your skin get into your blood stream and so forth the water is horrible the water is so bad that in Africa one region can’t drink the water of another region because their body isn’t used to it and you get over there. Let me tell you when you pray over food you you pray ain’t none of this Lord bless America and Lord bless my family and Lord yeah thank you for this food man you say Lord please.

▶ 35:59 Touch this food because if something isn’t right in here I’m in trouble and when you know like somebody gives you a glass of water out of the ox trough and sits it in front of you and it’s gray and all that murky stuff from the ox is floating around in that water you are tempting God drinking that because you know better isn’t that right and the Bible says what don’t tempt test the Lord your God I don’t have to drink [unclear] ask for a coke can I have a coke in fact I [unclear] I told you before I lived on sodas in third-world countries literally lived on soda. Yeah I’m in another place and they they they can’t afford fish and and the meal that they gave me and my interpreter and they gave me the fish and they cooked the fish whole nothing nothing’s taken out it’s just like you caught it they cook it and there it is laying at you with those eyeballs looking at you and everything all right then they give me a glass of water and I can’t remember if I took a sip of the water or not I usually don’t drink any water but anyway I noticed as I was eating the fish that the water was moving.

▶ 37:17 And I looked and sure enough there’s little wiggle worms and stuff in the water so I hit my interpreter I said don’t drink the water it’s alive. Can I have a coke. So you don’t tempt God now my interpreter had the tendency [unclear] a great man he had a tendency to take the scripture eat what’s put before you to a degree and you actually test God once you know that there’s something that’s going to hurt you you don’t in the name of well I got to eat what’s [unclear] no you just simply say hey I don’t want any water I’d like a coke you don’t have to embarrass the people or anything you just need to do something or you can just say I’m not thirsty if they don’t have anything you know and and the thing that saved me in third world countries [unclear] is my wife sent me a care package every time with beef jerky in it and peanuts and things that I could literally live on if I couldn’t eat the food that’s snicker bars oh man snicker bars.

▶ 38:33 Alright until you go to these nations and you’re confronted by witch doctors and you’re confronted by. Bad hygiene and bad living standards I mean people go to the bathroom wherever they get the urge I know they’re going down the sidewalk they get the urge they just stop [unclear] pull down their pants or raise up their skirt and [unclear] that’s it and they’re [unclear] and then the flies come and all this stuff you see. All of a sudden this has meaning. now when I was in Africa I’ve told you this story before they told me a young lady was going to come to my room and bring food okay the church the church knew what to cook for America and you know they knew how to do it and so I’m in the room and I get a knock on the door there’s a young lady there and she said your food’s ready and I thought that was the young lady so I left my room and went downstairs and they got this table fixed and I ate the food and thinking that the church did it then I go back to my room and then I get another knock on the door and I answered and I said we come for your evening meal we brought your food I said they already came they said who came [unclear] wasn’t us and I go oh brother.

▶ 40:05 So the next morning guess what I woke up with a black mouth I’m brushing my teeth and I noticed when I spit it was black instead of white. Instead of toothpaste color it was totally black I looked in the mirror and black on my gums and [unclear] my tongue a fungus. Crystallized fungus growing in my mouth and then I go oh my God I. Goofed I ate the wrong food and so I asked God I just a simple prayer Lord you know you got to help me here this is going to be embarrassing to those that brought me and so forth and I literally got a [unclear] in my [unclear] and I scrape these things off literally scrape them off spit them out and to.

▶ 40:57 Make a long story short I kept looking in the mirror as they [unclear] me to the next meeting to make sure they ain’t growing back and and I drink the mouthwash I didn’t just put it in my mouth and spit it out I put in my mouth spit it out and I put it in my mouth and swallowed it because I wanted [unclear] alcohol to kill [unclear] so if they say well pastor [unclear] never drank well he did he drank mouthwash he drank that alcohol [unclear] if I had whiskey there I [unclear] drink the whiskey to get that to kill all those germs in other words I’m not dead set on against anything when it can benefit you amen.

▶ 41:38 So you see things change when your situation changes and suddenly these things are important to me all right I’m in the jungles the guerrillas in Salvador the Cuban guerrillas that were trying to take over Salvador [unclear] shooting into the church meeting the bullets ding ding and the lights go off and people scatter and they had to take me and brother [unclear] through the jungle ok we had to cross streams and rivers and to get back to civilization we’re in the middle of the night we had to go a different route because they were after the Americans they wanted to get a hold of the Americans and so the guys led us through the jungle now you have to know the power of God to have perfect peace during that time and me and brother [unclear] was just going through the jungle laughing and talking and you know why because we knew God sent us there and he would keep us and [unclear] no arrogancy there that we’re any better than anybody else it’s just something that God puts in you it’s his faith it isn’t just something it’s his faith that he has the power to perform what he said and this scripture

Who convinces people?

▶ Watch this part (43:09)

Short answer: The Lord confirmed the word with signs following. The Spirit convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment—not apologetics. We need the power to love as 1 Corinthians 13 describes.

▶ 43:09 covers it all right you’re gonna be going through things where you can get diseases parasites and things and God will protect you is that a good amen hallelujah. Now. In. The last verse of that chapter they went and preached everywhere he said go they went the Lord working with and confirming the word with what signs following what signs these signs and when you go to the book of acts do we see them in operation except for the poison we don’t see it mentioned anywhere but were these apostles protected [unclear] from bandits and governments and everything else yes they were unless God wanted them to be incarcerated and brought to the judges so that they could minister to the judges to the leaders all right so folks it worked.

▶ 44:15 remember the spirit convinces if you’re [unclear] convince people with your human intellect and you’re not going to get anywhere if you share the scriptures which are spirit and just trust the spirit to convince people he will do it. It’s not my job to debate with people my job is to bring them to Christ and the cross. Amen if they reject Christ in the cross and that conviction of the Holy Spirit it’s not my job to try to keep [unclear] yeah it’s the power of the message of the gospel is sufficient to save people okay.

▶ 45:08 Alleluia. The spirit the Bible says leads into all truth and if they’re rejecting the spirit they’re not rejecting you they’re rejecting God himself don’t think that your much words is going to change things if they don’t want God. Amen. It’s the spirit that convinces of sin righteousness and judgment it’s a spirit that leads into all truth not apologetics my defending of my faith is not going to win an atheist they will just laugh at you. And. They won’t even believe if they see a miracle all right they won’t even believe if God shows up and they can feel his presence I’ve told you before I’ve witnessed two atheists told him I could prove God is real and when God showed up they just shook and ran they they they left they didn’t want God God came and backed up his word made him [unclear] okay that’s their choice.

▶ 46:18 Folks we need this power as a musicians come. We need this power to love our family love does no harm. Love is patient love is kind love. Doesn’t demand its own way love isn’t rude. love believes all things endures all things hopes all things and bears all things love never quits where is the power of the Catholic church when we’re divorcing we’re in sexual immorality we’re getting drunk we’re getting high on drugs where’s the power in the Protestant church when as many Protestants are getting divorced and their kids are wild and unruly as the secular world. You see it’s not human knowledge it’s not us hearing good messages it’s us experiencing the power of God.

About this transcript

This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added from the speaker’s pauses and then corrected by hand, and obvious caption errors (names, Bible references) were fixed; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: Congregants and the interpreter’s family are named in the transcript only. Points to check: Supreme Court ruling that atheism is a religion; “only thirty percent” in Pentecostal and charismatic churches speak in tongues; “over 100 apologists”; book titles as spoken. Sensitive content kept as spoken: personal claims about Josh McDowell’s beliefs (Holy Ghost, Genesis 6, pre-tribulation rapture) and Lee Strobel; Catholic “idols”, ritualistic services; Christians on Facebook “talk nonsense”; apologists who drop baptism “pass this nonsense on”; demonic manifestations and witch doctors; drinking mouthwash (“if I had whiskey there”) to kill a mouth fungus; guerrillas shooting into a church meeting in El Salvador; divorce, drunkenness, drugs in Catholic and Protestant churches; welfare.
