Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
On a baptism Sunday the message explains what water baptism includes: confessing Jesus publicly, believing all His commandments are truth, and fully submerging in repentance. Baptism is burial with Christ and resurrection to new life, the sign of the new covenant as circumcision was for Abraham, and a commitment that God will give a tender new heart.
What does water baptism include?
Short answer: Confession, repentance and believing: if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe He was raised, you will be saved.
▶ 0:13 We’re going to be talking about water baptism which includes confession repentance and believing in God uh first of all in Romans 10:9 says if you if you profess the Lord Jesus Christ and you believe in your heart that God is raised him from the dead you will be saved very simple but the important thing is are we willing when we go out and live our lives in the world uh do we want to be known as a Christian I look at that guy he’s a Christian uh are you afraid to tell people that you believe that Jesus died for your sin and rose from the grave are you afraid to tell people that you are a Christ’s follower and that’s what this is talking about not only believing but believing to the point where you can go out into the world and say yes I’m a Christian and then they’re going to be like well you’re doing this and this and this you’re like I’m working on it all right give me a break they’re not going to give you a break.
Scripture in this part
Romans 10:9 (NKJV)
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
— Romans 10:9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:13Matthew 10:32-33 (NKJV)
“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
— Matthew 10:32-33 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:08What if I’ve denied Him?
Short answer: Peter denied Christ but got back in right relationship; we can mess up and come back.
▶ 1:09 Matthew 10:32 says therefore whoever confesses me before men him I will also confess before my father who is in. Heaven and it also says after this he who denies me before my father I will will deny and we know that Peter uh in the Bible he he went through this he denied Christ the rooster crowed three times and at by the time the rooster crowed I’m sorry no he had denied Christ three times they asked him three times are you with Jesus I I know I saw you with him and he’s like oh no I wasn’t with him I don’t know what you’re talking about and the third time he started cussing screaming get out of my face get your f and this and that uh uh of course in you know the language they.
▶ 2:03 Spoke so but we know Peter got back in right relationship with Christ amen and that’s the beautiful thing we can make mistakes we can mess up but we got to come back and uh Jesus Christ will forgive us accept us uh but Peter he didn’t do that again that was his one time thing he didn’t do that again so it’s important to put that kind of stuff behind you. So we must confess that Jesus is true and the Bible is true when you in America right now it is not popular it is not government funded and supported to believe in God and the Bible it’s not uh supported to believe in a 7-day creation it’s not uh supported to believe in God.
What does believing mean?
Short answer: Professing Jesus above what the government and world say, and agreeing that all His commandments are truth, not cherry-picking.
▶ 2:58 So that’s where we got you got to rise above you got to rise above and say yes I believe and profess in the name of the Lord Jesus above what the government says ab above what the world says and that’s what this is saying do you believe to the point where you’re willing to say yes I’m a Christian yes I believe in his word in Psalms 119:151 the psalmist says here Lord all your commandments are what. Truth and and another question is do we believe in his commandments do we believe that there are true are we cherry picking what we want out of God and out of his word do you scoff at God’s design you know marriage right now uh for example is the big the big thing everybody’s scoffing.
Scripture in this part
Psalm 119:151 (NKJV)
You are near, O LORD, And all Your commandments are truth.
— Psalm 119:151 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:58What are people scoffing at?
Short answer: God’s design of marriage and male and female; going along with that rejects His word.
▶ 3:52 At our society today is scoffing at male and female because they’re bringing in bisexual transgender everything and they’re mocking at God’s saying oh no that God’s wrong you know he don’t know what he’s talking about making us male and female he he’s all messed up in fact he doesn’t even exist right so when we go along with that we’re rejecting God we’re rejecting his word so do we agree with God’s basic commandments uh in like we just read all your commandments are truth and do you agree with those commandments the ten commandments you agree with that so that’s what we’re talking about believing believing is not just believing that God made the world it’s more than that it’s agreeing it’s coming in line and saying yes I agree with and I confess profess I’m going to tell the world that his word should be followed you see that’s much different amen that’s much different than just saying I believe and so can you say today Jesus all the commandments in your word are truth they’re not myths they are truth John.
What is truth?
Short answer: Sanctify them by Your truth; Your word is truth. Men and women were baptized when they believed.
▶ 5:14 17:17 this is the chapter right before Jesus was crucified he was praying in the garden he was on his knees he says he was sweating so profusely and one of the things he said he said sanctify them by the way of your truth your word is truth and again can we say today that the Bible is the true word of God so important if we say that we believe do we believe in his word acts. 8:12 Philip went to samaria and samaria is where the samaritans are right and if you remember Jesus at the well with the samaritan woman she said to him why are you talking with me I’m a samaritan so we know that there were some you know some relations bad relations between samaritans and Jews and Philip comes to samaria and he is preaching things to the people that he shouldn’t be you know around the society is saying oh you can’t be around those people the Jews are like no we have nothing to do with but that’s not what God.
▶ 6:28 Says and he’s preaching these things he’s preaching things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ and they were baptized men and women God is not asking you to be holy in that moment where you are baptized he is asking you to believe to put your trust in him he’s asking you to start your life on a path of growing in the kingdom of God so if you think that before you get baptized you have to be holy you have to be mature that’s not how it works when you come to Christ he is there to make you to transform you from someone who is unholy to someone who is uh sinful to someone who is walking in his path and his way. Amen number two so first we talked about believing secondly we’re talking about repentance Acts 2:38 Peter said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
Scripture in this part
John 17:17 (NKJV)
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
— John 17:17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 5:14Acts 8:12 (NKJV)
But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.
— Acts 8:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 6:28What is the baptism of repentance?
Short answer: John preached repentance for the remission of sins; we are fully submerged, leaving no part out, and start acting differently.
▶ 7:32 John the baptist also in Mark 4 verse sorry 1 verse 4 said it says John preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and so we have to take all of these things into account if you want the remission of sin if you want God to remove and cleanse you have to uh put these things into operation and one of them is repent. And repent simply means to turn from one way of doing something to the other way and so with God he’s saying come out of the kingdom of darkness come out of the world and start coming into my kingdom and start act coming into my house stop associating living your life all uh kneed deep uh in the world and doing what they do saying what they say acting the way they act and John preaches a baptism of repentance that baptism means.
▶ 8:40 Submerged right so we want to be submerged in repentance we’re not leaving any part of us out we’re not just submerging a hand we’re not just submerging a foot it’s our whole body our whole being and I’m not talking about your physical body we’re talking about all of who you are you as a father you as a mother you as a parent a child a a Christian papers are. Flying everything every part of you we want every part of us to turn from the way we used to parent the way we used to treat our parents the way we used to be as a husband husband or wife as a spouse and we want to repent toward the way God does things.
▶ 9:40 Amen the world has their music they have their message they have their behaviors they have their treatment of children and the family and John and Jesus are saying baptize yourself in repentance we may have we may have aborted our children in the past we may have uh but now you don’t maybe you mistreated people with your words in the past but now you don’t you bite your tongue you may not know how to say anything good yet but at least you’re not doing the bad thing. Right you used to mistreat your family by neglect but now you don’t that is what repentance is talking about I was acting one way and now I’m acting a different way we got to start on a path of repentance Matthew chapter 21
Scripture in this part
Mark 1:4 (NKJV)
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
— Mark 1:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 7:32Who believed John?
Short answer: Tax collectors and prostitutes, while the religious didn’t; God now commands all men everywhere to repent.
▶ 10:43 25 let’s just move on to 21:32 John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe but tax collectors and prostitutes believed him and when you saw it you did not afterward repent and believe so here we have the Jews in Jesus’s day the chief priests and the elders the they were the Jews they would not repent even after seeing all these works done the heart the prostitutes and the tax collectors the people that everybody viewed as sinners they came out listened to John’s message repented and turned from their sins but not the Jews and the the Jews the chief priests were angry hateful people you got to remember that they hit Jesus in the face they killed him for no reason they had problems.
▶ 11:42 Too but you have the prostitutes and the tax collectors you have these hateful Jews and the people that turned were these people that everybody’s looked down on do we understand amen. And that’s how powerful his word is his truth is your position in a church doesn’t matter whether you’re the rabbi pastor priest whoever you are we must all respond to his me God’s message and his baptism Acts 17:30 this speaks to everyone truly these times of ignorance God overlooked that now commands all men everywhere to repent there’s no excuses anymore your religion doesn’t matter you go to another country and there’s other people there there’s maybe Buddhists atheists Muslims Hindus people that don’t have a religion all kinds of other religions God is calling all of them everywhere to what repent to turn and so the message of repentance is for everyone not just for the Jews it’s for every living human being so we are can.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 21:32 (NKJV)
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.
— Matthew 21:32 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:43Acts 17:30 (NKJV)
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,
— Acts 17:30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:42What is baptism?
Short answer: Jesus commanded it and was baptized; repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, and the Pharisees rejected God’s will by refusing it.
▶ 13:00 Amen and number three. Baptism what is. Baptism uh before that Matthew 28:18 Jesus says to his disciples go and make more disciples baptizing them in the name of the father the son and the Holy Spirit in Mark chapter 1:9 it says at that time Jesus who we know know as the son of God who we know as God Jesus came from Nazareth in g Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan so Jesus Christ is our example he was. Baptized by John the baptist and we should be baptized as.
▶ 13:53 Well Peter in Acts 2:38 he said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin Luke 7:30 the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves not having been baptized by John the baptist and so right here this scripture sums it up when we reject and Christians are debating on whether to be baptized and we reject being baptized you know the thief on the cross was not baptized did you know that but had somebody said had he been out in the world and wanted to repent and somebody said you want to be bapt he would have said yes but he’s hanging on a cross okay and he’s about to die so Jesus just he baptized him Jesus way right with his word but it’s important for us not to be hard-hearted toward God he is calling all men everywhere to to be baptized and that’s what it say says here they rejected the will of God by rejecting.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 28:18-19 (NKJV)
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
— Matthew 28:18-19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:00Mark 1:9 (NKJV)

— Acts 2:38 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:53Luke 7:30 (NKJV)
But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.
— Luke 7:30 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:53What does baptism picture?
Short answer: We are buried with Him and raised to walk in newness of life.
▶ 15:09 Baptism in Romans chapter 6:4 we understand more what baptism is says we are buried with baptism with him sorry we are buried with him in baptism into death that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father even so we also should walk in newness of life in a few minutes we’re going to take those that are getting baptized and we’re going to go over there into the spa not the green pool going into the spa and we’re going to uh dunk them under the water and Paul is saying here is that the water is like a grave it’s like being buried okay and what you’re doing is you know Deborah’s body is going to go under and come back up right but what God is saying in your spirit your spiritual man is that you’re leaving your old sinful man your mind the way you used to think the way that you uh you know the way that you approach life I can do what I want I can say what I no that’s not it anymore you’re leaving that behind and you’re coming up out of the water uh like Jesus rose from the dead Jesus rose from the dead he came out of that tomb you’re coming up out of that water by his power by his resurrection power and you’re going we’re going to walk in newness of life and many of us have already
Scripture in this part
Romans 6:4 (NKJV)
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
— Romans 6:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:09Is baptism a covenant sign?
Short answer: As circumcision was Abraham’s sign, baptism is our sign of the new covenant, the circumcision of Christ without hands.
▶ 16:39 been baptized and we are walking in newness of life today and it’s it’s a long walk you got to keep at it so don’t be uh don’t be discouraged but that’s what we’re doing in this. Baptism she goes under the water it’s like Jesus being buried when she comes out it’s like the resurrection do we understand. Amen Genesis 17:11 God told Abraham way back in the Old Testament he told Abraham and the men to circumcise themselves as a sign as a token between Abraham and God so this circumcision was a sign between Abraham and God saying okay God has made a covenant with Abraham and we’re going to respond and say yes we acknowledge and we’re going to do this as an acknowledgement and that’s exactly what we’re doing with baptism Jesus has made a covenant it’s called the new covenant with you and with me with every one of us and as a sign a token of our response we do what we get baptized.
▶ 18:00 Okay Colossians 2:11 in him Jesus you were circumcised without hands by putting off the body of sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ buried with him in baptism what this verse is saying is that circum the circumcision of Christ is not uh of the flesh it’s uh of the heart okay and that the circumcision that the Old Testament is talking about is now baptism that we do.
Scripture in this part
Genesis 17:11 (NKJV)
and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
— Genesis 17:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 16:39Colossians 2:11-12 (NKJV)
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
— Colossians 2:11-12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:00What do people commit to in baptism?
Short answer: That God will give a new heart and make them tender to His word.
▶ 18:39 Today and lastly about baptism in Ezekiel 36:26 it’s really talking about the first step in our new covenant with God Jesus promis or the new covenant promises and says I will give you a new heart I will put a new spirit in you I will remove from you a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh I will put my spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws and so it’s important to understand that when we get baptized we are uh lining up with that new covenant that new promise asking God to take out of us that old stony heart maybe you have a hard heart a hard heart is somebody who can’t listen you can’t hear you hate anytime the word is hurt the word or Bible is spoken you don’t like it you just you’re hard you’re hard toward.
▶ 19:50 God don’t want to listen you don’t want to hear it that’s a hard heart and his new covenant. And what people are committing to today when they get baptized is that God will make you tender so when you hear God’s word you say yes I want to follow that yes I want to respond I want to obey because I love. God and so God today is going to do an operation in the spiritual mind spiritual heart of the people being baptized today it’s not just a sign God is going to do something something in their spiritual. Man lastly in Matthew 3:5 we have confession John preached saying repent for the kingdom of God kingdom of heaven is at hand they went out to him and were baptized in of him in Jordan confessing their sins confessing their sins admitting their sins and that is also hard for us to admit it takes courage it takes some bravery many times we like to I mean I do this myself making excuses well I you don’t understand I was doing I got every excuse in the world.
Scripture in this part
Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV)
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
— Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 18:39What does confess mean?
Short answer: To agree something is true and admit we did wrong; God takes no excuses.
▶ 21:11 But when it comes to God and his word and his commandments we have to he’s not going to take excuses we have to confess we have to admit we did. Wrong and confess just means to agree something is true if we violate God’s word we admit that we’ve done wrong we confess that the Bible and Jesus’s word is true and uh we make the steps to change that’s what repentance is turning from wrong going to right it takes humility to confess you have to humble yourself and we don’t like to be humble we don’t like to uh humble ourselves but when you realize how big and powerful God is hey you you I I bow I just say yes Lord whatever you say you’re right.
Can we deny Him by our actions?
Short answer: Yes; they claim to know God but deny Him by their actions. He has baptized a few people who later had to choose.
▶ 22:03 Amen Titus 1:16 they claim to know God but by their actions they deny him they are detestable disobedient and unfit for doing anything good it’s important for us to not just believe not just say oh I’m baptized this happens all the time I’ve baptized quite a few people not that many a few and they have to make a choice later on in their life what they’re going to do we all have a choice to make are we going to claim to know God yes I have baptized and I’m a Christian but we uh by their actions deny him so it’s not just like Peter he denied Christ with his words with his mouth but Titus 1:16 here is saying we can deny him by the way we act so God’s not going to kick you out right away for all your bad stuff okay but we’ve got to get on the path of repentance we got to get on the path of following him and living for him just like a tree grows uh starts small grows large God’s going to accept you in every stage but you need to be growing and you got to let God maintain.
Scripture in this part
Titus 1:16 (NKJV)
They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.
— Titus 1:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 22:03Was confessing Christ costly?
Short answer: Yes; anyone who confessed Jesus was put out of the synagogue. In Ephesus believers confessed and burned their magic books.
▶ 23:19 You John 9:22 they feared the Jews the Jews had agreed if anyone confessed that Jesus was Christ he would be put out of the synagogue and so back then when you publicly declared that Jesus and the Bible were true the religious and non-religious people persecuted. You and treated you bad we don’t like to be treated bad I don’t like to be treated bad and it’s not always. Easy but that’s part of believing in God in Christ when we say we believe him we we’ve got to we’ve got to tell people hey yeah I believe. Jesus you know when you say you believe in Jesus somebody comes up to you and says you’re a Christian yeah I’m a Christian I’m working on it. Okay acts.
▶ 24:20 19:18 we have a story of this whole uh all four of these things happening water baptism repentance confession and believing um the disciples the apostles came to the city and they preached many who that many who believe came confessing their sinful. Practices you know you don’t have to come and confess to me you can confess before God okay you can confess before God I don’t need to know all the dirt and all the details okay if you want to share with me okay but I can’t do anything about it Christ is the one who died on the cross for your sin Christ is the one whose blood covers that. Sin and they con they came confessing their sinful practices and many of those who practice magic witchcraft they brought their books and burned them in the sight of the whole.
▶ 25:22 City and so that was their act of what repentance that was their act of confession confessing that was their act of of believing they said okay I believe God over this witchcraft and these magic books and I’m going to back it up by you know books back then were expensive so to to burn a book was they lost money. Right so these people put it into practice they experienced a powerful uh transformation in their lives. And we need to do the same today are you willing this morning to put your trust and belief in Christ in his word and his commandments do you agree with his commandments or are we going to reject them are we willing to repent John preached a baptism of repentance let it come all over you over your whole life are we willing to be baptized.
Scripture in this part
John 9:22 (NKJV)
His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
— John 9:22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 23:19Acts 19:18-19 (NKJV)
And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.
— Acts 19:18-19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 24:20How does the service respond?
Short answer: Singing Lord I Give You My Heart, a salvation prayer, and praying for those being baptized to receive a new heart.
▶ 26:29 Like Jesus was baptized like Jesus said about the Pharisees saying they rejected the will of God not being. Baptized and lastly are we willing to confess are we willing to admit are we willing to humble ourselves. Amen let’s bow our heads this morning. So we have some people here that are scheduled to get baptized and uh.
▶ 27:27 For. So normally after the service after we share the message we have a time where we can respond so I’d like to give you some time right now every one of us uh as we sing this song I’m going to sing it and I’m going to ask you to stand with me and we’ll sing it together and uh be our commitment to Christ and we’ll.
▶ 28:39 Pray this is my desire to. H. You Lord with all my heart I worship you. All I have within. Me I give you. Praise all that I. Adore is in. You Lord it’s in you. Lord I give you my heart give you my soul.
▶ 29:34 I live for you alone every breath that I take every moment. I’m have your way in. Me this is my desire to. H. You Lord with all my heart I worship. You all I have. Within I give you praise.
▶ 30:30 All that I. Adore is in. You it’s in. You Lord I give you my heart you my soul I live for. Youone every breath that I take every moment I’m awake. Have your way. Me we’re going to take a moment here want to give anybody an opport everybody an opportunity to admit to confess want to give you an opportunity to put your trust in his commandments and uh we want to put our trust in those commandments because he made a commandment that he would cover our sin with his blood.
▶ 31:30 And we want those to be true. Amen we want to be reminded in the scriptures this morning Romans 3:23 it says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God in Romans 6:23 it says that the wages of sin the payment the result of that sin that we do is death in hell but it says the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus jus Christ our Lord in first John 1:9 it says if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness you like to accept Jesus in your heart this morning just bow your head with me and pray after me just say Lord. Jesus I.
▶ 32:22 Confess I admit that I have sinned against your comm. Commandments Lord Jesus I pray that you would forgive. Me I pray that you would cleanse. Me Lord Jesus I. Promise to commit to. You to following your word thank you Jesus thank you for cleansing amen. Lord I give you my heart give you my soul I live for. You every rep that I take every moment I.
▶ 33:20 Way Lord have your way in me Lord I give you my heart. I give you my soul I live for you al every breath that I take every moment. I’m have your way. In we’re going to pray for one another right now just reach your hand the person next to.
▶ 33:55 You and we’re going to ask that we would humble ourselves we want to pray for the person next to us and ask that God will come upon them that we would confess that we would repent that we would put our trust in his word and believe let’s pray for one another God Lord we pray right now Jesus I pray for my neighbor I pray for my God I pray for this conation Lord I pray for all of us right now God we we lift each other up right now we ask Lord that you would soften our hearts Lord we ask Lord that you God would transform us Lord we ask you God would you a work our hearts and our spirit Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus come with your mighty power come your word come your spirit God call you Jesus Jesus we pray for another this morning I pray God pray.

And uh anybody else willing to lay your hands on them shred ch your hand and we’re going to ask that God will forfill and then the word that says that he would give him a new.

About this transcript
This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added from the speaker’s pauses and then corrected by hand, and obvious caption errors (names, Bible references) were fixed; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: He corrects himself from “mark 4” to Mark 1:4. The recording places the message first and a worship set with a special song after it (~39:21).
