Like the Marines’ Semper Fi, the remnant must be always faithful. God causes the remnant to prosper and possess all things. We need not fear God if we submit; greater is He in us. Daniel purposed not to defile himself, and the three Hebrew boys refused to bow—God backed them up.

What does commitment look like?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: His youth pastor, a Vietnam War Marine, taught Semper Fidelis—always faithful; the dragon makes war with the remnant.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:00 We’ve heard a lot of uh testimonies of people that God brings something into their life and wakes them up to turn and change amen it happens all the time and we’re just praying that God would you know turn to all of our congressional senators every one of them the judges and and try to wake them up and he can do it amen uh we need to keep praying for. That we’ve been talking about the remnant. In the Bible the remnant refers to a small group of faithful believers who remain loyal to God whether it’s big or small whether it’s big or small in the Bible it’s a group that remains faithful and loyal to God to his precepts and to his word even when the majority of the people have turned away from him I grew up.

▶ 0:52 Uh going to church and I had a youth pastor who was in the Vietnam War and he was a marine. And he had stories for. Us and one of the uh because he’s my youth pastor I you know he would take us down to the base he would take us to see the uh miramar air show and we were there and you would see mr barn salute and he wouldd have his hat and he would he would just be it was a different experience and as a young man it it has an effect on you. You know because I had a desire to fight for my country but one of their principles at the bottom here you see this uh statement what does it say what does that say seer fidelis or as the marines say what always no what do they what cfy that’s right.

▶ 1:54 Cfy and it means always faithful symbolizing the commitment to the marines the commitment to the core marine corps and to their country saying always faithful that’s their motto and even though the marine corps is a small group it’s small I mean compar to the army it’s the smaller group but their commitment to their country and to the core is very strong and we want to be like that no matter what church you’re part of we have the cath the pope up there catholic church united methodist church baptist church evangelical church all the different churches all the different um factions that we’re in right now no matter what you’re a part of the remnant are people who let God train them and change them to people that treat people right and that love their God.

▶ 2:56 In Revelation 12:17 the dragon made war with the remnant and this is uh in. Revelations and it tells us who the remant are not just a word you know not just a definition it’s saying that they’re people who keep the commandments of God this is how we know you’re a remnant amen this is how you can know if you’re a remnant you keep God’s commandments they have the testimony of Jesus. And so the question is today are we letting Christ make us a new. Creature it doesn’t stop after you overcome addiction there is more that God wants to do in your life remember he his impact is that we become new creatures as Paul said circumcision nor uncircumcision it’s not about that it’s about what the new creature.

▶ 4:00 And so we we may overcome addiction in our lives but that doesn’t end there he wants us to change our work habits our temper our family life and how we treat our family and our big. Mouth needs transformation how many can agree with that yes we got to let God transform these things and that’s why this altar is so important yes it’s a little stage and there’s a little carpet here but this is your altar. And at the end of the service it’s an opportunity to come before God and let him to continue that transformation in your life it’s not just for people who have never accepted Christ if you want to be continue if you want to continue being made. New we’ve got to come to Christ this is just an opportunity to come to Christ okay he is the one that makes us a new creature.

What does God cause the remnant to do?

▶ Watch this part (5:09)

Short answer: Prosper like the seed and vine—reach for His water; He will cause the remnant to possess all things.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 5:09 Amen as we learned in the past lesson Zechariah 8:11-12 the seed shall be prosperous the vine shall give its fruit the ground shall give her increase and the heavens shall give their due and he’s talking about the remnant but now I will not treat the remnant as in former days now their seed is going to be pressed their vine will give fruit they will have the increase in the ground and the heavens shall give their due we learn that that seed is what the word of God and it’s going to be prosperous in your life the vine is Jesus Christ as he defines it in the New Testament in red letters and shall give its fruit uh God wants us to bear the fruits of the spirit amen and if we stay and stick with him stay connected with him he’s going to bring it to completion the ground shall give her increase and the heavens shall give their do we learned about the do God is always around he’s always available the kingdom of God is within you the kingdom of God is at hand the kingdom of God is.

▶ 6:10 Here and like the air that is the water that’s in the air the water vapor that’s in the air you’ve got to reach out to God and grab that water so that you can have that life don’t wait around for the next reign of God r a I n the next water water coming from God from heaven don’t wait around and the example that we gave in california we have how many inches of I don’t remember how many inches of rain per year it wasn’t very much.

▶ 6:42 And uh let’s I’m just going to throw out a number 10 inches of rain your average tree needs a 100 inches of rain per year what do you do as a Christian you can’t wait around for all just rain you have to get that due that is already in the water vapor as a Christian you can’t wait around for every rain you know some of us don’t attend church regularly and we you know maybe once a year we we feel the reign of God and we have some life that comes into us but God is available for us every day remember the people on the road to uh road to emus they were walking with Jesus Christ and he was going to continue walking but they stopped him they constrained him they said don’t you go any further you come with us we’ve got to get that kind of attitude so that we can have his water that he has for us Zechariah 8:12 I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these.

▶ 7:49 Things when he’s talking about causing here we go to the new covenant new covenant says I will give you a new heart I will put my spirit in you and I will what cause you to walk in my ways and my statutes and this causing is called grace in the New Testament that grace by grace were saved through faith uh by grace through faith you’ve been saved not by works l any man should boast you put your faith in Christ and he backs it up with his drawing his influence his response to your faith amen I experienced this as a teenager that desire that comes you may not have had had a a desire before but all of a sudden it’s there now and that God is drawing you he’s trying to say hey that’s that’s coming to to a better.

▶ 8:53 Way I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all things do you want want to be just a Christian that does not possess. God’s God’s. Promises possess all these things we don’t want to possess a part of God we don’t want to possess a little bit of God we want to have what all we don’t want to be Christians that are 25% Christian we don’t want to be 50% Christian or 10% Christian we want to be what oh 100%. Amen that depends on us Deuteronomy chapter 6:5 it said in this uh. Well-known commandment love the Lord your God with what all say that all your heart with what all your soul with all your strength.

Are we loving God only on Sunday?

▶ Watch this part (9:56)

Short answer: No—with all your heart, soul and strength every day; as you were a curse, you shall be a blessing.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 9:56 And when you think about all think about the days of the week are we just loving God on Sunday no we love him on every day on all days. Amen Monday Tuesday when Monday to Saturday it doesn’t. Change we can’t live a double. Life where we come to church and we smile we sing oh Jesus loves me and then when Monday comes. No love God with what. All every area we want to we can change in one area but we don’t want to give God the other area we can change in uh you know maybe an addiction area a sexual area we want to turn that around but when it comes to our mouth no I don’t want to change my mouth right and God is saying he wants what.

▶ 11:08 All all your heart your soul your strength it shall come to pass in Zechariah 8:13 that as you were a curse among the heathen I will I save you and you shall be a blessing fear not but let your hands be strong and that’s what we’re going to be talking about today and I’m going to look down at this uh one right here it says fear. Not some of us are afraid of God some of us are afraid to approach him to come to him uh Luke chapter 1:30 the angel came to mary and the first thing the angel said is what don’t be afraid fear not Luke 10 verse 2:10 the angel appeared to the shepherd said what do not be afraid we get afraid of God some of us think that if we come to God he’s going to make us weird. Well I don’t want to be like that guy I saw a guy that’s not God remember he created you he knows you more than you know yourself and he can approach you in a way that you can handle remember he loves.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Zechariah 8:13 (NKJV)

And it shall come to pass That just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, So I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear, Let your hands be strong.’

Should we be afraid of God?

▶ Watch this part (12:18)

Short answer: Israel feared at Sinai, and He comes to judge—but if we submit, we need not fear; He works day and night to save.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 12:18 You it’s powerful God is powerful Exodus 20:8 when the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain and smoke they trembled with fear and they said do not have God speak with us or we will die Moses said to the people what don’t be afraid they wanted to keep their distance from God because they were afraid of the thunder and the lightning and yes we need to understand that God is powerful that he is a judge that he does have thunder and lightning and he does strike terror into the wicked and into the kingdom of darkness but if you’re on his side if you love him that is not for. You he’s not against you he can be on your side when I was a kid uh I was really afraid of the predator movie and so to get over it I would say he’s my friend I would make him my friend and that way he would beat all my you know enemies yeah go get him uh and you know God wants to be on your side amen he’s powerful he’s.

▶ 13:40 Great don’t be afraid of him Psalm 98:9 he comes to judge the earth he will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity for he cometh for he cometh to judge the earth. Righteousness amen when I was uh thinking about this scripture I was thinking of that song um and I I like that song because you’re singing about how God is a judge he’s he is coming he is coming to judge the earth but you’ve got to understand that God has a lot of responsibilities he is a judge. In Matthew 16:27 2 Corinthians 5:10 we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

▶ 14:37 Amen. But we don’t have to be afraid if we surrender if we submit to him we don’t have to be afraid of God I have loved you with an everlasting love I have drawn you with unfailing kindness the new covenant he’s given us this new covenant I will give you a new heart I will put my spirit into you I will call cause you to walk in my ways your sins your iniquities I’ll forgive remember no more the the the from the least to the greatest they all shall know me from the least to the greatest amen the grace of God teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions we are the clay you are the potter we are all the work of your hand when I am lifted up from the earth I will I draw all people to myself see he’s drawing he’s drawing all people.

▶ 15:30 And so when I I’m bringing this up because God is not sitting back waiting to send everyone to hell he has been working every second every millisecond every nanc to draw people to himself to bring people to the kingdom of God and he has been doing that work ever since the beginning he is not sitting back and just waiting to send everyone to hell he is working. Tirelessly to bring people to himself amen I think that is very powerful he is stirring his church to do the same thing we got to get with it amen we’re definitely you know I be like I’m not doing this every nanc.

▶ 16:35 Amen so yes he is coming to judge the earth but he is working night and day to bring people to himself do not reject him Revelations 3:20 the famous scripture here I am I stand at the door and what knock if anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with that person and they with me God is knocking on billions of people’s. Doors he is knocking he’s not. Lazy so yeah you better believe it when he judges the earth because he’s saying hey I was there I was knocking on your door I got it I’ve got it noted I know what you told me people are rejecting him and accepting him you got we got to understand that. Joshua 1:9 be strong courageous do not be afraid for the Lord will be with you wherever you go Psalms 23:4 even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for you are with me amen see when we have God with us we don’t have to be afraid we don’t have to be afraid of the world you don’t have to be afraid of people that that are trying to hurt you you don’t have to be afraid of making the right choice and all of the fear that people give you the grief.

▶ 18:05 Amen we don’t have to be afraid now we get afraid but God is reminding us hey you don’t have to be afraid I am what with you when you make a decision to follow him he is with. You and I have to remind myself of this all the time. John 1 John 4:4 because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world John 4 James 4:7 submit yourselves to God resist the Devil and he will flee from you Romans 8:38 neither death nor life nor angels nor demons nor any powers will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord you don’t have to be afraid of the kingdom of darkness you don’t have to be afraid of Satan but there’s a caveat here.

Scripture (NKJV)

Exodus 20:18-20 (NKJV)

Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

How do we overcome the enemy?

▶ Watch this part (19:03)

Short answer: Greater is He in you; submit to God and resist the devil.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 19:03 Right it says the one who is in you do you have Christ in you do you put his word in you do you put his truth in you you can have God in you by his word and his presence and how do you get his presence you got to pray you got to seek him you got to praise him that’s how you can get God’s presence and you can have have him in. You but if you don’t have him in you and you’re rejecting him and walking away from him neglecting Jesus Christ you’re going to have tough time with the kingdom of darkness submit yourselves see the caveat you got to submit yourself to who to God to his word to his truth to his house.

▶ 19:55 And then you got to do something else you got to what resist the devil you know some of us don’t even put up a fight and how do we resist the Devil it says that out of the mouths of babes and sucklings I have ordained praise to beat back to freeze to steal to stop the enemy and the avenger I it shocks me when people will not praise God. It is such a powerful promise and I’ve said I’ve quoted that scripture 500 times and we still won’t do it it’s like man of all the things we can come on we can do that. Amen nothing can separate you from the love of God there is no distance that Satan can make you go into where God cannot reach Lazarus was in the tomb he was dead and God spoke him into life Paul was was the chiefest sinner he said he was in the depths of sin he was at the deepest.

▶ 21:04 Place in our uh we know about the deepest spot in Mariana Trench right five miles deep and if you try to go that depth you get crushed by the pressure of the water Jesus Christ can reach down in that depth and pull you. Out nothing can separate us from the love of God amen. Zechariah. 8:14 when your fathers provoked me to wrath you were a curse among the heathen and I will save you and you shall be a blessing so it doesn’t matter if we are living in a time of correction from God in our country in our land maybe it was our forefather’s fault.

▶ 21:59 Who who knows whether it was your forefathers or whether it was your fault God wants to bring you from a place of uh judgment or cursing to be what a what. Blessing God wants to turn your situation from a curse to a blessing and we see that with our young men here. Daniel haniah mile and azariah. Daniel chapter 1:3 the king brought king uh the the king of Judah’s descendants who had the ability to serve in the king’s palace and they were to learn the literature and language of the ch calans after three years of training they were supposed to serve the king and these four guys are mentioned here in Daniel chapter 1 Daniel he purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies nor the wine does doesn’t say exactly if it’s because it was sacrificed to idols it doesn’t say if it was because it was uh uh pork meat or something that they didn’t e doesn’t say but whatever it was Daniel said I don’t want to defile myself with this.

What did Daniel do?

▶ Watch this part (23:15)

Short answer: As a young man he purposed in his heart not to defile himself, and God gave the four young men wisdom in a time of judgment.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 23:15 Stuff see Daniel as a young person he cared about God’s word he cared about God’s. Law he purposed in his heart when I was a young person this this scripture was so powerful to me he purposed in his heart have we purposed in our heart Daniel here is acting like the remnant he’s saying no I’m not going to participate I’m going to do what God tells me to do and not what you tell me to do not what the world tells me to do that is the behavior of the remnant they first thing that they do they keep the commandments of God this is Daniel he’s keeping God’s commandments amen even if it’s a shadow law now Daniel in his time he’s under the shadow law we’re not under the shadow law but we’re under other laws that we need to.

▶ 24:15 Keep it says that he requested the prince of the eunuchs to the uh to not participate in these things he wasn’t disrespectful he didn’t you know slap around I don’t want that stuff thus say the Lord he said I I would like I would like not to participating that and you know whether you’re forceful Daniel I’m just showing here Daniel approached it in a request way he had to deal with the time that he had right those guys probably had swords already to chop your head off so he still kept God’s word and was respectful he had to be respectful in doing it. So we can’t come up with excuses is what I’m saying you can’t be like oh they’re going to cut my head off well if you approach it in the right way you could be okay and then you get to keep God’s word and you don’t have to give in and you can be respectful.

▶ 25:17 Amen as for these four young men God gave them knowledge and skill and all literature and wisdom and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them he found them how many times better say it with me 10 times better than all the magicians and astrologers am I reading too fast do I need to go slower who were in all his realm so Daniel and these young. Men were given knowledge and skill they were given by God literature and wisdom they God helped them understand he helped them learn it well and not only that but Daniel had understanding of visions and dreams you don’t get that from literature and language amen you get that from God and it says when they came out of this training time of three years they were 10 times better than all of the magicians and asers who were in all his realm you got to understand that the veterans at that time the people that were already serving the king of Babylon the veterans maybe they had been serving at him for 40 years who knows these boys came out and they were better than them by 10 that’s powerful and God did that these young.

▶ 26:50 Boys had to live in a time of curse had to live in a time of judgment in their land but God turned turned all of that into what a blessing these young men became rulers they became in charge of Babylon of a secular nation and they got to influence and be uh wholesome people to the country and to the their own people that’s powerful so even though there was a curse there was a judgment God turned it into a what a blessing and we need that in our time today amen Zechariah 8:15 again in these days I am determined to do good to Jerusalem and the house of Judah do not fear God is determined to do you good not because you are sinning not because you’re rejecting him why but because you are a remnant.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Daniel 1:8-17 (NKJV)

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.” So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.” So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables. As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Must we obey rulers who command idolatry?

▶ Watch this part (27:58)

Short answer: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow; we submit to authority, but not against God’s commandments—and God backed them up.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 27:58 Those who will not bow their knee to Baal those who will not give in those who are faithful to God will keep his commandments he is determined to do you what. Good. Amen Daniel 3:4 the herold shouted when you hear the sound all kinds of music you shall fall down and worship the gold image that king Nebuchadnezzar has set up whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of the burning fiery furnace we should a lot of us know this story. Already and so here king Nebuchadnezzar was setting up his own image to bow to and the world today can try to set up their own religion their own God today and if we don’t obey they will impose some kind of consequence they’re cancelling people they’re they’re threatening to sue all all kinds of things today amen it’s.

▶ 29:03 Happening and they want you to obey they want to be in charge and I’ve said this before. Uh the argument that comes out of the world today is oh don’t push your religion on me well they’re pushing their religion on. Us don’t make your law your Christian laws your religious laws well you’re put pushing your religious laws on us. You’re hurting. People you’re allowing all kinds of things to happen you know I worked with many families and and and youth for years and I saw the results of all of this nonsense in the homes in the family it doesn’t help it’s. Harmful we got to get back to promoting right back in the family and right back in the country and truth amen don’t let them tell you that you’re religious and you need to keep your religion out they are religious and they’re putting their religion.

▶ 30:12 In it’s just a tactic to shut us. Up when all the people heard the sounds of all kinds of music all the people nations and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image which king Nebuchadnezzar had set up I’m mentioning this because at the threat of their lives everyone that was there at this golden image they all bowed down but again these boys it doesn’t say that they’re a remnant but they’re acting like what the remnant why because they will not bow they are remaining faithful to who they’re remaining loyal to who to. God and who set it up king Nebuchadnezzar he is the top authority in the land.

▶ 31:12 We have to realize that though kings or leaders may have done a great thing maybe they uh you know in h in his in his time he was a great conqueror he led all of that conquering and be you know be Babylon became a the the first empire and king Nebuchadnezzar he led. That you know they may rule well but they’re not always right about. Everything our government representatives today are not right about everything even though they are good at some things. Amen and so the king comes to them and says who is the God that’s going to deliver you out of my hands I’ve conquered nations I’ve conquered many nations I’ve I’ve plowed right through and you three are going to stand here who are you you’re you’re just ants under my shoe right that’s the way he’s talking to them and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied and said the God we serve he is able to deliver us from this fiery furnace and if he does not we want you to know your majesty your majesty.

▶ 32:31 Oh oh oh well here’s my answer who’s going to deliver you from my hand who are you and those guys stand there like oh well you know God’s able to deliver us thank you for threatening us can you imagine with a smile. Replying if he does not we want you to know your majesty that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set. Up Romans 13:1 let everyone be subject to governing authorities for rulers hold no terror for those who do right but for those who do wrong it is important that we understand that the other side of government is yes we are supposed to subject to governing authorities you know when you get pulled over and they’re going to give you a ticket because you were speeding you are guilty yes we’re guilty.

▶ 33:31 Right uh we submit ourselves to that authority. Amen for rulers hold no terror to for those who do right but for those who do wrong whoever rebels against the authori is rebelling against what God has instituted and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves if you remember the Jews they told Pilate this guy needs to be killed and Pilate was like he’s innocent he didn’t nothing. Wrong but they convinced Pilate to kill. Christ they did not submit themselves to the roman. Authority and this is why we pay taxes also this is all in Romans chapter 13 I remember when I was a kid I was at school and we were walking all as together to the park that was far away and we all had to walk from the school to the park and I just ran through some kind of intersection or something and mr ar barnes is like.

▶ 34:37 Hey h and at the end of the day he says okay you need to go and read me Romans 13 and memorize it uh maybe a couple verses I can’t remember so I got in trouble and the next day I forgot about what he asked me to do and my friends who got in trouble too they’re like did you memorize it I’m like what I. Forgot uh maybe that was something else but yes I remember reading this and getting in trouble we are submit ourselves to the authority. But they have a responsibility too the government and that’s to hold wrongdoers accountable and not to punish those who are doing right. Amen uh would God hold the germans accountable for not subjecting themselves to hitler.

▶ 35:34 Question Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not listen to the highest governing authority in Babylon were they. Wrong you got to remember there is a higher authority right and who is that God his word his truth doesn’t matter if our country makes a whole bunch of lawless stuff legal. It doesn’t make it right just because America oh all of a sudden oh drugs are legal all this stuff is legal you can do what you want oh we lowered the age of consent down to 10 over lowered it down that doesn’t make that doesn’t matter. Amen doesn’t mean it’s right so these boys they were cast into the furnace and the king leaped to his feet and he said we’re not weren’t there three men I see four men walking around in the fire unbound and unharmed and the fourth looks like a son of the gods and because of this experience these men stood up they acted like the remnant amen they behaved like the remnant they kept God’s commandments what what commandment were they dealing with you shall not make any graven images you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart soul and strength amen the these boys were following the first of the ten.

▶ 37:03 Commandments they were acting like the remnant and God backed them up I submit to you today though we may be put in fear of following God’s commandments we still need to do it and that’s why it’s so important to un to to stay committed to Christ to be a remnant a people that is loyal and faithful to. Him later it says I decree that the people who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their house burned you know there was a p a penalty came if they were to uh say anything against the God of she Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego for he’s the real God and then the king promoted them so because they stood up for God’s commandments for God’s word God uh.

Scripture (NKJV)

Daniel 3 (NKJV)

Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. And King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. So the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then a herald cried aloud: “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.” Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.

Romans 13:1-3 (NKJV)

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.
