Pastor David G. Kincer teaches that the Spirit still speaks to the church, especially in our conscience, and that “hear” means listen and respond. Using an Appalachian saying and many real-life examples aimed at children, he shows that children are hurt when they don’t listen to good parents—or when parents don’t listen to God—and urges both to obey.

Does the Spirit speak to the church?

▶ Watch this part (0:53)

Short answer: I know your works, patience, poverty and tribulation; but some left their first love, some are in idolatry and sexual immorality, some are like Balaam, some are lukewarm—repent.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 0:53 Now spirit doesn’t have flesh and bones okay it didn’t like us and the Holy Spirit in the Bible is a person the Bible uses the word he shall got it and so the Holy Spirit wants to say something and in Revelation he says it to the churches he says I know your works I know your patience I know your loyalty your faithfulness to me I know your poverty that many of you are going through I know the tribulation and troubles that some of you are going through and I know that some of you have been a martyr you paid the price for following Jesus with your life but he also said the spirit to the churches some of you have left your first love and who is the first love top commandment love God with all your heart what’s the second love love your neighbor as yourself you’ve left your first love he says some of you say you’re Christians and you’re not.

— Revelation 3:16-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:02 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Where does the Spirit speak to us?

▶ Watch this part (2:03)

Short answer: In our conscience. 1 Timothy 4:1–2: in the last days some will depart from the faith, their conscience seared. When your conscience says do right, that’s the Spirit.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 2:03 That’s the spirit talking now if the spirit talk back then can he talk to us today absolutely absolutely he says some of you are in idolatry you have idols in your home you have idols in your heart and idols in your life some of you are committing sexual immorality and some of you are like Balaam who is just in it for what you can get out of it. Whether it’s money free food or whatever that’s why you’re in it [unclear] and he says some of you are lukewarm and you say you have need of nothing and you’re blind you’re naked you’re miserable and he told these last ones to repent that’s what the spirit said to the churches in Revelation in 1st Timothy 4:1 Paul says the spirit expressly says that in the last day some will depart from the faith some will speak lies in hypocrisy having their own conscience seared with a hot iron forbidding to marry and not eat certain foods so where does the spirit talk to us in our conscience.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NKJV)

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,

— 1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:54

How does the Spirit build the church?

▶ Watch this part (3:19)

Short answer: 1 Corinthians 12:8: by the Spirit come the word of wisdom, knowledge, miracles, tongues and interpretation; without the Spirit we’re out of order. He also uses psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 3:19 It isn’t some voice and he speaks in our conscience how many of you know you got a conscience of right and wrong I mean when your conscience [unclear] to say and do right that’s the spirit yeah when your conscience [unclear] to do wrong it’s either you or the spirit of the enemy and that right it’s that simple ok. now in 1st Corinthians 12:8 one is given the word of wisdom by the spirits to another the word of knowledge by the spirit so see the spirit comes with gifts he gives for the edification and the building of the church with miracles and tongues and interpretation it all says it’s by the spirit and without the spirit doing it we’re out of order got it.

▶ 4:16 And also in Corinthians it says what shall I profit you and how am I going to edify you unless I speak my doctrine by knowledge by prophecy or by Revelation. By the spirit see the spirit can use us to speak but a lot of us say the spirits telling me and it’s nothing but us telling us and so the spirit is speaking in the church today and we need to get tuned into it can that be an amen yes now. Remember also Paul wrote says teach and admonish one another in Psalms hymns and spiritual songs and music and singing is a big priority in the church of the living God and it needs to be utilized much better especially getting the spirit connected in it okay as you make melody to the Lord you can teach and admonish one another not for you to feel good and all that but to build the church now I.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 12:8 (NKJV)

for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,

— 1 Corinthians 12:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 3:19
Scripture (NKJV)

Colossians 3:16 (NKJV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

— Colossians 3:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:56 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What does “hear” mean in Revelation?

▶ Watch this part (5:26)

Short answer: Not just hearing someone talk—it means to listen and respond. The Holy Spirit is after your inner ear, your inner spirit.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 5:26 Said all that and you heard it didn’t you. Yeah did you hear me talking [unclear].. did you hear me talking [unclear] yes you heard me talking but this word here doesn’t mean to hear me talking this word here means to listen and respond. Now how many of you could repeat back to me what I just got through saying the spirit said to the church. See you heard me but you didn’t listen and you don’t know what to do. Am I right yeah see now and a lot of us think that.

▶ 6:21 A lot of us think it’s the outward ear okay and I can get bigger ears. And. I can you know hear with a bigger outward ear. But that doesn’t mean I’m listening does it see and so it’s not the outer ear see this is the outer ear the inner ear is the one that communicates to you are you with me it’s your inner spirit that the Holy Spirit’s after. Amen. So we got ears but do we really hear what the spirit is saying in our conscience to the church and he wants to speak to the church people today by the spirit beyond the word beyond preachers preaching he wants to come to you and speak to you in your conscience.

Why use an Appalachian saying?

▶ Watch this part (7:24)

Short answer: He gives a hillbilly sentence few understand to show that we may not know what the Bible is saying because we haven’t taken time to learn its language.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 7:24 How many could go for that yeah oh. Yeah now I’m going to. Tell you a statement from Appalachian dialect I’m from the Appalachian mountains okay. Now I’m going to give you a statement that we actually talk like this and my family’s always correcting me to this day because I bring out Appalachian words. and my wife and my sons [unclear] okay here you go now I’m going to make a statement and you tell me if you just heard or did you listen and you can tell me what I said okay y’all that’s a working in the backer this mornin don’t you get tired afore you eat your poke mess and I don’t chew my cabbage twice.

▶ 8:34 Now who can tell me what I said you can what I say. Boy he got the he got the end result but what did I say what do you know to do what do you guys know to do how do you respond to that statement. Look what does that mean. You see we read the Bible and we may not know what that Bible saying because we haven’t taken time to learn the dialect of the Bible the language of the Bible now let me tell you what it says all right you let me repeat it again y’all that’s a working in the backer this mornin don’t you get tired afore you eat your poke mess and I don’t chew my cabbage twice.

▶ 9:39 Here’s what it means you. That is. Working in the tobacco field. This morning don’t you get tired. Fatigued. Before. Your. Poke which is a bag a lunch bag mess is a meal. And. I don’t chew my cabbage twice as I’m not repeating myself. Now that’s up that’s how I grew up. We had language like this alright and I was made fun of when we moved to the city and laughed at for years even when I started preaching they would laugh at me but I kept [unclear] now.

Why should children listen to parents?

▶ Watch this part (10:49)

Short answer: Ephesians 6:1–3: children obey your parents in the Lord, that it may be well with you and you may live long. One reason children get hurt is not listening to good parents.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 10:49 Parents speak to children like the spirit speaks to the church are you kids listening how many you kids got a parent yeah you got a mom and a dad now parents speak to children like the spirit speaks to the church. And there’s two reasons why children get hurt. Okay. and Ephesians 6:1 children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. children what obey listen to your parents respond when they tell you something all right this is the right thing to do it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth how many of you kids want to live to be my age 74.

▶ 11:47 Yeah okay it says to listen to your parents and one of the reasons children get hurt is they do not listen to their good parents you see this picture up here of caustic chemicals that is in every household. All right this guy did not listen to the parents not to drink not to put this stuff in them having no kids want to taste things yeah yeah a lot of kids right yeah [unclear] I was out fishing one day and we had these long night crawlers and always wonder how one of them things taste oh. Jesse said oh no don’t tell this story okay I’ll stop right there. So you don’t want to know what a nightcrawler tastes like I assume.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Ephesians 6:1-3 (NKJV)

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

— Ephesians 6:1-3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:49

What if parents are wrong?

▶ Watch this part (12:46)

Short answer: Listen to your conscience—the Spirit speaking there is higher than anything. Fathers, don’t provoke your children but bring them up in the admonition of the Lord.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 12:46 You do all right [unclear]. So children you need to listen to good parents some parents aren’t good and some [unclear] parents tell you wrong things to do that’s where you need to listen to your conscience okay the spirit speaking to your conscience is higher than anything are you with me and the Bible says let no one despise the days of youth God will speak to you and your conscience you don’t have to speak in tongues and prophesy and do a jitterbug across the aisle or anything he will literally speak to you in your conscience by his spirit all right now father’s. Parents do not provoke your children to wrath but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord so what’s the second reason children get hurt like this guy here he ate lye when I grew up we made soap our own soap and we used lye to make it and I had acquaintances that had eaten lye in their parents home and they literally walked around with this tube in their nose.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

— Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:36 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What is the second reason children get hurt?

▶ Watch this part (14:08)

Short answer: When parents do not listen to God to protect the child. We are body, soul and spirit, and few parents teach their children that the Holy Spirit speaks to the conscience.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 14:08 Till we moved away I don’t know how long they walked around with the tubing because that those caustic chemicals will burn your mouth swell your mouth your tongue and it will burn your esophagus your air passages and get down into your stomach and burn that and so they have to use this you see there’s one over here too [unclear] how many you kids don’t want to go around with a tube in your mouth all your life yes how many will listen to your parents yeah that’s the way yes listen to your parents they’re out to protect you good parents are out to protect you and so when parents do not listen to God to protect the child from harm children get hurt and we’re made of body soul and spirit the mind is very important what goes into the mind can hurt the child the physical body as you see here can hurt the child okay and if they’re not raised with a spiritual upbringing that can hurt the child not many parents even know that the Holy Spirit will speak to your conscience and teach their children that and to listen to that conscience.

What examples does he give of not listening?

▶ Watch this part (15:28)

Short answer: A 16-year-old died after ecstasy at a rave; a 19-year-old died from synthetic marijuana—both given drugs by “friends.” Listen to parents and God above friends.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 15:28 But you got it today amen now. How many of you kids their parents say don’t play with matches yeah that’s because I know someone that burnt their house down their parents house down from playing with matches. Look at this little girl playing with a knife how many of you kids your parents tell you don’t play with knife yeah very dangerous I can bring harm to you you got to listen to good parents you got to listen to them for a long life now. I’m going to show you some harm from not listening to God who is our father he is a parent that is out for your good okay. So the first one I’m going to show you is two teams that didn’t listen to God they didn’t listen to the scriptures they didn’t listen to the spirit and they didn’t didn’t listen to drug statistics facts.

▶ 16:28 This young lady is sixteen years old went to a rave party to dance the night away and just live it up someone gave her ecstasy and her group used the ecstasy drug but she had a reaction to it was taken to the hospital and died. Why because she didn’t listen to the Bible she didn’t listen to the Holy Spirit and she didn’t listen to the statistics the scientific statistic that these things we’ll hurt you and destroy you and kill you this one is nineteen year old man. He was given synthetic marijuana synthetic marijuana is made by it’s not real marijuana it’s made like to have the reaction that marijuana had.

What about alcohol and tobacco?

▶ Watch this part (17:28)

Short answer: He says many die of alcohol-related causes and shows a 34-year-old who died of tobacco-caused cancer despite the Surgeon General’s warning.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 17:28 He’s in the hospital his mom is weeping over him and a couple of days later he died and both of these were given these drugs by their friends can you say the word friends and watch out for friends like that. You should be listening to your parents above your friends could that be an amen and we should be listening to God above our friends and I want to tell you something they passed a proposition in California and they use this quote that no one has ever died from a marijuana overdose. But there’s hundreds that have died from marijuana related death see just like hardly anybody dies from a alcohol overdose it does happen but it’s rare but over a hundred thousand died from alcohol related deaths.

▶ 18:27 Are you with me that includes doctors saying it’s a organ in the body when it was really alcohol that affected the organ that caused the death are you with me yeah and do you know on the internet you can go to oh nevermind I’m not there yet alright this 34 year old man did not listen to the surgeon general how many know who the surgeon general is that’s the doctor of America his job is to make sure Americans. Are healthy and so on a pack of cigarettes it says this packet of this tobacco can kill you right on the pack. he didn’t listen. So this thirty-four-year-old he died.

▶ 19:22 This is him. Ten weeks earlier two and a half months this is him dying from cancer created by tobacco smoke now how many of you kids don’t want to smoking and like that yeah that’s it our president doesn’t smoke and he tells the kid don’t smoke don’t drink don’t chew and don’t run with people that do that’s what the hillbilly say. All right watch these friends listen to good parents and if you got good parents be thankful for it if you don’t good good parents remember the spirit will speak to your conscience. Hallelujah. Yes yeah. That’s a good clap now.

Who suffers from drunk driving?

▶ Watch this part (20:17)

Innocent people get hurt and look at this girl this is two years after the accident. She’s got to live with that the rest of her life that guy got seven years for killing two people. Seven years and she got life. that’s not [unclear] let me read you a poem all right I. Went to a party mom and remembered.

▶ 22:10 What you said you told me not to drink mom so I had sprite instead I felt proud of myself the way you said I would that I didn’t drink and drive though some friends thought I should I made a healthy choice and your advice to me was right the party finally ended and the kids drove out of sight I got into my car mom sure to get home in one piece I never knew what was coming mom something I expected least. Now I’m lying on the pavement and I hear the policeman say the kid that caused this wreck was drunk mom his voice seems far away.

▶ 23:02 My own bloods all around me as I try hard not to cry I can hear the paramedics say this girl is going to die. I’m sure the guy had no idea while he was flying high because he chose to drink and drive I. Will have to die. So why do people do it mom knowing that it ruins lives and now the pain is cutting me like a hundred stabbing knives tell sister not to be afraid mom tell daddy to be brave and when I go to heaven put mama’s girl on the grave.

▶ 24:04 Someone should have taught him that it’s wrong to drink and drive maybe if his parents had I’d still be alive. My breath is getting shorter mom I’m really getting scared these are my final moments and I’m so not prepared I wish that you could hold me mom as I lie here and die I wish I could say I love you mom so I love you and goodbye. If the parents would have taught him she would still be alive. Children listen to your good parents you. May not like it sometimes but they’re up for your good and parents be a good parent choose to be a good parent choose to protect your kids from mental destruction physical destruction and spiritual destruction could that be an amen yes.

Can we just control dangerous things?

▶ Watch this part (25:15)

Short answer: The Bible says abstain from all appearance of evil—why try to control something that will destroy you? Not listening hurts families.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 25:15 Mama’s girl why because she listened to mama but daddy’s boy didn’t and killed him. Some people would say controlling. The Bible says flee the appearance of evil it’s like handling a rattlesnake and I have a snake in that box over there but I got to keep moving. I was going to throw it out there and say here try to control this it’s amazing what you can buy on the internet. How many know the Bible’s wiser flee the appearance of evil why try to control something that’s going to bring destruction to you. In closing these not listening hurts families.

▶ Watch this part (26:13)

Short answer: Keep intimacy in marriage, between a man and a woman only, and keep your vows. He shows sexually transmitted disease and an infant with herpes as the cost of not listening.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 26:13 This picture on the left the Bible says and the spirit says to keep sex in the marriage intimacy in the marriage and [unclear] children marriage is between a man and a woman only. Intimacy is between a man and a woman only and you make a marriage vow to stay faithful and loyal to that person all your life through the bad times the good times sickness and in health through everything you make a vow to stay faithful and loyal and protect that family are you with me kids that’s what the Bible and the spirit says is a real family man and woman marry and stay married it’s said that church people are divorced at the snap of a finger and then they say they believe in God.

▶ 27:09 And they don’t keep their vows. This guy did not keep sex in the marriage and he got syphilis this is a sexually transmitted disease and it looks bad don’t you think just simply because he didn’t listen this is a baby this is an infant. This innocent infant mother didn’t listen to the spirit didn’t listen to God and this baby has herpes and that baby is going to live herpes is incurable and that baby is going to live with that all their life because mama chose to get high chose to party and live that life have sex outside of marriage got a sexually transmitted disease and it passed it on to the baby and do you know on the internet you can go to a website dating.

Why is the conscience so important?

▶ Watch this part (28:17)

Short answer: Parents can be wrong. A young man’s parents “believed the lie that homosexuals were born that way,” and he got HIV and AIDS; a boy who neglected school became homeless. Parents must obey the Spirit; children must obey their parents.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 28:17 Strictly for sexually transmitted disease infected people I mean that’s how weird. America has gotten and their motto is this you give me your sexually transmitted disease and I’ll give you mine. Isn’t that just strange. Folks it should be strange to you that’s ridiculous. This boy this young man listened to his parents who believed the lie that homosexuals were born that way and homosexuality is okay he listened to his parents when he told him you know I have a tendency toward men and they go well that’s okay they believe what the government said they believe what the homosexual activists said they believe what the liberals say they believe what the democratic party most of them says they believe the lie and this boy went ahead and had same-sex relationships and he got hiv and aids.

▶ 29:27 Parents can be wrong that’s why the spirit speaking to your conscience is so important. Amen and this guy here he listened to his parents he didn’t do good in school didn’t care about school. You kids education is very important learning how to read write and do math and communicate is very important school is very important especially a school that teaches you character. Character counts along with academic yeah [unclear] don’t be afraid. What good is an intellectual mind if you have no character you’re going to destroy your life and many others and this boy believed his parents it’s ok not doing good at school and I just hot rod around with my friends and go riding the boulevard and on Friday and Saturday [unclear] and pick up chicks and all that just and what happened he’s homeless.

▶ 30:46 And he’s comfortable being homeless picking trash food [unclear]. Dropping out of school. How many you kids don’t want to be homeless when you get an adult yeah you want a home you want food on the table out of the weather yeah that’s good goal and you’re good parents will tell you that education and learning a job skill and working hard will profit you tomorrow okay so how many going to raise your hand [unclear] I’m going to work harder in school now huh yes I don’t want to be homeless very good very good. In closing parents we must decide to obey the spirit. Children you must decide to obey your parents.
