After Jesus was Born 12/22/2019: full transcript and answers
Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.
Pastor David G. Kincer follows the shepherds after Jesus was born. They saw angels and the glory of God, left their sheep in faith, found the baby in a manger, spread the news and returned praising God. Praise is where God dwells; it drives out depression and the enemy, as with Paul and Silas in prison.
What happened after Jesus was born?
Short answer: An angel of the Lord came to shepherds, and the glory of the Lord shone around them.
▶ 0:00 And today we’re going to be talking about after Jesus was born last week we talked about how he was born now we’re gonna look at the scriptures on after he was born and you’ll find these stories in Matthew chapter 2 verse 1 and Luke chapter 2. There are several people that encountered Jesus after he was born early after he was born. Two of the most prominent ones was the shepherds and the wise men so we’re going to take a look at the shepherds the shepherd’s as you know in the Bible saw something with their own eyes they saw an angel okay. But what most people miss is they saw the glory of God.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:8-9 (NKJV)
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
— Luke 2:8-9 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 0:00What is the glory of God?
Short answer: The glory in the cloud and fire that led Israel, and what was seen when Jesus was transfigured; every shepherd saw it.
▶ 1:02 Now that’s a big difference between an angel and a glory of God if you know your Bible the glory of God in the cloud and the fire is what led the Israel through the wilderness the glory of God came down in Moses his tabernacle and filled that tabernacle the cloud of his glory filled Solomon’s temple that the me priests could not minister in the temple the glory of God is what the prophet said would cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. The glory of God. The glory of God is what the prophet said God would not give to another people only his people he’s not going to raise up another people no matter how dumb we get and how foolish should we get he’s not going to abandon us he’s gonna keep his glory upon his people amen alleluia.
▶ 1:59 The glory of God is what you see in the mount of transfiguration when Jesus was transfigured from a human being into a spiritual being. Most people miss that in this they dot only saw an angel they saw the glory of God and a host of angels appeared at the end. Okay and of course they were afraid now you got to get the picture with me they were shepherds with flocks plural plural a shepherd would have his flock and at night they would bring him into a sheep fold where it had one door and that shepherd would sleep across the door or walk around if there were two of them that sheep fold to prevent any thief from coming in and getting a sheep or any wolf or jackal or some other animal of prey did we get that and these shepherds are scattered all over they weren’t just some one little group because the sheep had to have a lot of acres to graze on so these shepherds were scattered throughout say the elsinore valley but every shepherd saw the angel
▶ 3:30 and every shepherd saw the glory of God and every shepherd saw. The hosts of angels singing. Just like when Jesus comes little ones every eye will see him. Everyone will be holden I don’t care if they’re in a cave I don’t care if they’re in a mine I don’t care if they’re on the other side of the world he appears to all people at the same time he has no limitations are you with me. Hallelujah how many are looking for the glory of God that he promised would cover the earth as the waters cover the sea that is a prophecy that has to be fulfilled it has not been fulfilled yet and these people that want Jesus to come in the rapture to take place they don’t understand and the total plan of God alleluia but how many of you want to understand like Paul the whole knowledge of God yeah not some select things now they were afraid of course they were afraid.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 13:21 (NKJV)
And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.
— Exodus 13:21 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:02Matthew 17:2 (NKJV)
and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
— Matthew 17:2 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 1:59Why were the shepherds afraid?
Short answer: Seeing an angel and the glory of God concerns you; when you know your Bible you can fear God without running from Him.
▶ 4:41 You see an angel it’s going to concern you this is a spirit being you see the glory of God it’s going to concern you am I going to get out of this alive. And then you see a whole band of angels singing it’s it’s going to concern you and so the angel said don’t be afraid as we heard in the play Friday night don’t be afraid don’t be afraid don’t be afraid there’s a story I’ve read about a man in spain over in europe how many of you young kids know where europe is on the other side of the atlantic all right and there’s a nation over there called spain in this country man went into the city to buy a coffin for his dead family member and on the way back as country people do they pitched a picked up a hitchhiker that’s what country people did that’s what they did down south when I grew up you you walking along a road they just stop and take you you know where they’re going and so.
What does his pickup truck story teach?
Short answer: Two men panicked over a man in the coffin and were hurt and killed, because they didn’t understand that dead people don’t come back.
▶ 5:47 He put the guy in back of the pickup truck with the coffin and they go a little down the road and it started raining with a guy in the back of the pickup truck wanted to gather the rain so he opened up the lid of the coffin no one was in it and he can’t climb did it to get out of the rain and while he was in there he fell asleep in the meantime while he was sleeping this driver picked up two other hitchhikers and put them in the back of the truck so. About an hour so later the guy in the coffin wakes up he opens the lid and says it’s quit race. These two guys jump out of the truck.
▶ 6:42 Literally one of them was really hurt badly and the other one was killed when his head hit the asphalt. See they were afraid because they didn’t understand that dead people can’t come to life they didn’t understand children that there is no such thing as ghosts. When you’re dead you’re gone your spirit goes there’s no ghost walking around this earth there’s no ghost that can come into your room at night no booking in that’s all a fictitious story can I earn him in adults yes if they would have known that they wouldn’t have jumped out of the truck with because of their superstition and everything they thought the dead it came to life and they just jumped and harmed one and killed the other.
▶ 7:38 When you know your Bible you don’t have to be afraid of God like that you can fear him but you don’t have to run from him a man you might be afraid what God’s gonna do but you don’t have to run from him because he’s gonna do you God is that an amen so the angel said don’t be afraid God doesn’t come to us to expose our every weakness and our faults in and condemn us the hell he comes to us to bring us out of our life into a better life is that an amen no don’t be afraid to experience God don’t be afraid to let God come and touch your life he’s only there to do you good so. These shepherds that were scattered all through the valley some in the mountains of this song over the hills and everywhere that’s actually what they was they were in the valleys they were in the hills they were in the mountains and all these shepherds around.
What message did the angel bring?
Short answer: Good tidings of great joy for all people: born this day a Savior, Christ the Lord.
▶ 8:45 Jerusalem I mean Bethlehem was about six miles away from Jerusalem so they were scattered out there in the valley and an angel as always in the Bible comes with a message if you see an angel and his and got a message and it doesn’t have the right one you’re having a nightmare all right you’re not having a vision. So they had a message and what they said is don’t be afraid fear not for unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior who is Christ the Lord savior. Christ the Lord the only savior faith does not save you grace does not save you hope does not save you Jesus saves you can as that an amen.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:10-11 (NKJV)
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
— Luke 2:10-11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:45What sign were they given?
Short answer: A baby wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.
▶ 9:43 And it’s born this day Jesus had just been born and the angels are celebrating and inviting people to his birth. He goes on to say this will be a sign unto you you will find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger well swaddling clothes wasn’t that big a deal most people wrap their kids in those days and cloth and stuff to keep the kid from moving around but who in the world puts a brand-new baby in a manger a cow feeder a horse feeder. Where the cows and the horses are slobber and while they’re eating the hay.
▶ 10:35 Who would put a baby in a manger. Okay so they had two indications this baby is going to be found in a manger which would be in a barn or a stable and he’s going to be found in Bethlehem the city of David as prophesied by the prophets. Oddly enough. These shepherds scattered all over. Go to see this wonderful thing. And. Oddly because they left their sheep. Shepherds don’t leave their sheep.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:12 (NKJV)
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
— Luke 2:12 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:43Why was leaving the sheep an act of faith?
Short answer: Thieves and animals could take the sheep; leaving them showed the faith that came with the message.
▶ 11:27 The thief’s and the animals. Are going to eat this sheep or stealing are you there for a shepherd to leave his sheep that is an awesome. Evidence of the faith that came when this angel spoke to them. See faith comes by hearing the word it isn’t hearing the word comes by faith. Are you connecting with me here you. See these angels said nothing about faith they said nothing about belief they said nothing about grace they said nothing about hope all of these things that God gives us to bring us to him but he is our exceedingly great reward the Bible says in that true and we should never exalt anything above the source Jesus Christ the giver is bigger than the gift is that an amen the giver is supposed to be honored above anything he distributes out to us.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:15 (NKJV)
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
— Luke 2:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 11:27What is hope?
Short answer: Expectation: they expected the angel was telling the truth, believed and went with haste.
▶ 12:53 So these guys leave now you talk about expectation that’s what hope is they were expecting that this angel was telling them the truth they believed and they had faith without the words mentioned at all. But today we got a doctor our self up I believe I have faith yeah oh by grace God’s grace God’s grace I hear grace mentioned more often than died here Jesus Christ the savior and only savior by God’s grace I want to do this by God’s grace I’m gonna do that who brought that doctrine in it’s by the Lord Jesus Christ were gonna do this and by the Lord Jesus Christ we’re gonna do that is that an amen. Without him we can what do what nothing. Hallelujah.
▶ 13:47 You’re getting it you get in the picture. So. They left to go see Jesus they didn’t when they got there they weren’t there to see Mary the vessel that God used to bring Jesus they did not worship Jesus they did not worship Joseph they didn’t worship the in that stable that they were in or the manger that he was laying in they came for Jesus Christ what the angel spoke about and they found him and all of these things that surrounded Jesus they were not interested in and we shouldn’t be either is that a good amen. If you look for Jesus you find Jesus if you look for a building you’re going to find a building if you look for some great speaker pastor you’re gonna find some great speaker pastor but if you look for Christ you’re gonna find him and he is your hope he is your future he is your savior your deliverer your healer he is all in all amen thank.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:16 (NKJV)
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
— Luke 2:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:53What did the shepherds do after seeing Jesus?
Short answer: They spread the news throughout the region, then returned glorifying and praising God.
▶ 14:57 You I love the amen from the children’s section over there and then after they saw Jesus what did they do they went and spread the news throughout the region. Instead of going back to their sheep they went out into a wake-up and the savior’s born down there and that’s table hey you guys wake up over there or not stay there’s a savior of Christ is born Jesus is his name you need this here go down and see this. They shared that great experience of the angels in Christ and the message of the savior with everybody around it says they spread it abroad.
Scripture in this part
Luke 2:17-20 (NKJV)
Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
— Luke 2:17-20 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 14:57Did God protect the sheep?
Short answer: He says, consistent with the law’s promise to protect those who went up to the feasts, God protected their household income.
▶ 15:49 The sheep were still by themselves. Now so that you understand the Bible is always in continuity with itself it says in the pentateuch Deuteronomy and Leviticus numbers. That God said if my people will come to my house to observe the feast and some of these people lived 100 miles away 50 miles away come to my house and observe the feast no one will desire your property no one will touch your possessions if you come and you observe the feast that I ask you to observe and immediately when these shepherds saw these angels and heard the message they had that kind of faith that they could leave their sheep their household.
▶ 16:46 Income. And God would protect them. That is powerful faith. Hello there and then. They came back. They returned back to the sheep after they told everybody a wake-up there’s a savior being born Jesus Christ the living God. Then they went back to the sheep and what were they doing just going back I gotta go back to work now no they went back what praising and glorifying God hallelujah thank you Lord for this great event praise God praise Jesus they’re singing his praises on the way back to their job their sheep they’re praising and glorifying him and why is that important.
Scripture in this part
Exodus 34:24 (NKJV)
For I will cast out the nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither will any man covet your land when you go up to appear before the LORD your God three times in the year.
— Exodus 34:24 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:49Why is praise so important?
Short answer: God inhabits the praises of His people; they praised Him, not the manger, Mary or Joseph.
▶ 17:52 Mary praised him. Zechariah praised him remember last week they rejoice they praised him why is praise so important. You are holy oh you who dwells in the praises of Israel my people. Where does God live in the praising we praise him his presence comes his presence comes we can learn things we can be taught things and we can take on the nature of who he is. Hello there are you with me. They honored God. Someone was debating me this week that Jesus is the name above every name and you don’t cast out demons by neova named in the name of Jesus and he says Jesus was the name from the beginning of the world I said sir what do you do with the scripture his name shall be called emmanuel I.
▶ 19:04 Said I submit to you that God knows his names there are many the almighty God the prince of peace amen the Lord of Lord the king of king he has many names and I said sir the next time I cast out demons and I’ve cast him out before I’m gonna cast him out in the name of emmanuel and you watch he knows who he is and that demons gonna come out can I hear an amen. We can’t worship just one name. Every name is significant when God gives us his name hallelujah. Hallelujah. His name is called emmanuel God with us there’s only one God not three persons three expressions in the one God how God’s one God the Bible’s very clear there is what one God quit arguing about it.
▶ 20:05 Amen. Now. You notice they weren’t praising the manger as I saw before as I said before they weren’t praising Mary or Joseph. They weren’t praising the end and the stable that birthed him and they weren’t praising and glorifying the angels that came to visit him did you hear that judge they didn’t go around talking about the angels they went around talking about who Jesus the savior the Christ. Hallelujah. Today we worship everything but Jesus and one of the big things in the world today as we worship music people think that because they meet with music they’ve met with God not so a meeting with God is transforming a meeting with music it’s pleasing.
Scripture in this part
Psalm 22:3 (NKJV)
But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.
— Psalm 22:3 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 17:52What does a meeting with God do?
Short answer: It transforms and strengthens you; music alone just makes you feel good or sad.
▶ 21:07 Are you there a meeting with God transforms you strengthens you a meeting with music just makes you feel good or sad ever what the music is expressing. Out of the mouths of babies and sucklings you have ordained praise to steal the enemy and the avenger young Christian these little kids can praise the Lord and God will drive back the principalities and powers of darkness that’s what he’s saying Satan is our enemy the kingdom of darkness is our enemy the people who follow the kingdom of darkness is our enemy and these young kids by praising God and marching around here on Sunday and all that is not just a formality is is a weapon that drives the enemy out from our homes and out from our life amen and if we won’t praise him we don’t get the reward.
Scripture in this part
Matthew 21:16 (NKJV)
and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”
— Matthew 21:16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 21:07What does praise do to the enemy?
Short answer: It drives out depression and the enemy; you’ll never see a person who praises God sad.
▶ 22:08 You show me a person that praises God you’ll never see a sad person even in the midst of problems they’re not depressed and cast down why because that praise drives away the enemy and the avenger and when nobody can touch you. When you operate God’s principles. Alleluia and people won’t lift their hands they won’t praise the Lord they won’t lift their voice for many reasons or whatever they stay angry and hateful and they stayed prideful they don’t change because the enemy comes in and uses that vacancy there’s a vacuum there and he’s not going to allow a vacuum in your life he’s going to come in and fill it.
▶ 23:01 He’s going to encourage you to get angry speak bad and and all this stuff be depressed be sad doubt God but praise draws the enemy out of there when there’s no vacuum he don’t have any room to come in can I hear an amen. Remember it was praise. When Paul was in prison and him and his companions started praising God they were shackled in prison guards there they started praising God now the Bible says that heaven is God’s throne and the earth is his footstool so when Paul and him started praising God God’s foot right there by that prison started moving oh yeah I hear praise donnie oh yes and when God’s foot started moving there became an earthquake the earth started shaking that prison started shaking and the prison door swung open and all the prisoners were set free why God backing up his principle of praise they praised him instead of complaining they praised him instead of criticizing they praised him instead of whining and and crying over you no God were you at they praised him and God set not only them free from their shackles he said all
How powerful is praise?
Short answer: Paul and Silas praised in prison, the doors opened and the jailer was saved. Young people, praise is spiritual warfare.
▶ 24:32 the prisoners free and saved. The guy that ran the prison can I hear an amen. That’s how powerful praise is young people you’re doing spiritual warfare when you praise God you don’t have to be an agony all the time old travail oh God oh God move on America oh God you can praise and bless it be the name of the Lord he is king of kings and Lord of lords and it has the same effect as travail and I’m not saying we don’t travail but we need to blend the two because praise anybody can do and not anybody can travail. Is that any man. Yes. You guys can change the world by praising Jesus and worshiping him and these. Adults that think they know everything.
▶ 25:28 While they set in silence you can open the windows of heaven a lot of adults are like that you know we don’t want to express ourselves what are people gonna think who cares what people think I need Jesus and they need Jesus and praise is one of the ways to Jesus.
Scripture in this part
Acts 16:25-31 (NKJV)
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
