Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.

From the sermonAct Like Men · Pastor David G. Kincer▶ 0:00

Pastor David G. Kincer teaches from 1 Samuel 4:9 that God’s people must act like champions—strong and ready to fight—and asks why Israel lost to the Philistines despite Hannah’s Spirit-led prayer. He compares Eli’s corrupt sons, everyone doing right in his own eyes, and prosperity and positive-thinking teaching with America’s decline since the great awakening. When Israel returned to God with all their hearts, the Lord thundered on their enemies.

What does “quit you like men” mean?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 4:9: the Philistine army, the unbelievers, were told be strong, conduct yourselves like men—like champions—and fight, so as not to serve the Hebrews. Champions must be strong in word and spirit and fight; nothing happened until Jesus started preaching.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 0:00 This first one is first Samuel 4:9 and It’s spoken. In. The midst of a war between the unbeliever and the believers and it is the result of a conflict between God’s people and unbelievers okay and it’s going to be spoken by unbeliever. Now. First Samuel [unclear] he says be strong this is the command to the Philistine army the unbelievers then he says quit you like men or act conduct yourself like men. Men as I told you before is used as a husband used as a male person used as a servant used as.

▶ 1:04 Servant and it’s also used as a [unclear] the age in other words maturity and it’s also used as a champion now what do you think fits in here in a war champion act like a champion act like a winner alright he says be strong oh you Philistine so he’s talking to the unbelievers army he says don’t number three don’t be servants unto the Hebrews. God’s people like they have been to you okay they’ve been ruling over God’s people God’s people went to war with him try to get free from them and then he says it again quit you conduct yourself behave yourself like men like champions and he.

Why did Israel lose this battle?

▶ Watch this part (1:58)

Short answer: In verse 10 Israel was smitten and fled to their homes; the unbelievers won. The story behind it begins with Hannah praying by the Spirit at the temple door for a son, then giving Samuel back to God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 1:58 Says and fight. So. Acting like men acting like champions we got to be strong in word and spirit and not true and we got to fight we can’t hide behind prayer prayer is part of the fight but until Jesus spoke nothing happened you understand that until Jesus began to preach the gospel nothing happened no one hated him no one loved him no one even thought anything about him but when he started preaching then. One crowd moved to the opposition another crowd moved to him aren’t you glad you moved to him. So we gotta fight now and they went to battle and they fought and the sad thing is Israel in verse 10 was smitten and they fled to their own homes okay the unbelievers won the conflict here.

▶ 3:04 God’s people didn’t win and the question is why. Why did God’s people lose this battle and stay servants of the unbeliever. Now let’s look at the story behind this verse all right the story behind this verse is Samuel’s mother went to the temple in chapter one to pray for a son and she was praying by the spirit folks she wasn’t praying this was um this was a god-ordained thing and she was praying before the door of the temple and so God gave her a son that God said for me to give you a son you got to give him back to the house of God to be a prophet and a priest to my people and she did after she weaned Samuel she brought him to the house of God after she brought him to the house of God she prays again now remember this is not her just praying this is the spirit moving her to pray the Bible says you can pray with the what spirit and you can pray with the understanding and that right and the spirit knows how to pray and what the Bible says and we don’t implement that enough we just kind of do our little ritual thing in prayer but we need to learn like.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Samuel 4:10 (NKJV)

So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter, and there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers.

— 1 Samuel 4:10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 2:52
Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 14:15 (NKJV)

What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

— 1 Corinthians 14:15 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:16 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

What did Hannah’s prayer say about riches?

▶ Watch this part (4:35)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 2:7: the Lord makes poor and makes rich, brings low and lifts up—totally contrary to the prosperity teaching of health, wealth, success and happiness that he traces from the 1950s to today.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 4:35 Samuel’s mother here Hannah to pray by the spirit this is what she said okay she’s going to pray a prayer. After she gave her son a future priest and prophet to God first Samuel 2:7 the Lord makes poor and the Lord makes rich. Elia. The Lord brings people low and the Lord brings people high he lifts them up now this is totally contrary. To the prosperity teaching of health.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Samuel 2:7 (NKJV)

The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.

— 1 Samuel 2:7 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 4:35

What does prosperity teaching say, as he describes it?

▶ Watch this part (5:27)

Short answer: That God can’t break a prosperity covenant “if” you have faith, talk positively and donate a seed. He tells of a woman dying of cancer who couldn’t confess it and fell trying to bring her offering forward; she died weeks later—and it would be called her fault. God made the lame and the blind.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 5:27 Wealth success and happiness by Oral Roberts in the early 50s by Reverend Ike in the 50s by A a. Allen in the 50s T. L. Osborn in the 50s T. D. Jakes Kenneth Copeland they’re present with us today Dollar Tilton Hagin Osteen and a whole list of more alright totally. Totally opposite of that alright prosperity doctrine teaches this and I had to work through this as a young man following God all right they said God cannot break his covenant prosperity is a covenant God made with his people and God cannot break his covenant if see.

▶ 6:21 That word see that’s that’s like the evolutionist they have these little words in there maybe could be if how many know when you got facts you don’t need those kind of words if you have faith if you believe and I watched as as this as this move of God in the late 40s started turning to where everything was dependent on my faith and if I didn’t get what I asked for is because I didn’t have what faith so the minister’s free not their fault. Secondly you got to talk positively you can’t say I got cancer okay I had a woman come into the church over in Brea and I found through the family that she was dying of cancer but she had been listening to Joyce Meyer on radio and tv and you know she had to confess faith he couldn’t confess she had cancer no way I don’t have cancer her hair is gone she’s sick it’s obvious there’s something wrong with her she’s dying and she had to talk positive and usually.

▶ 7:37 Over there we passed the offering bucket in the pews but that morning we took up the offering you had to come down and she tried to come down to give her donations that’s the third one you gotta donate you got it you got to give that seed of faith that seed of faith you know give your give your social security check give your [unclear] give and you use faith and you talk positive and God will give you health wealth and success okay and it’s big today but it started in the early 50s all right and she fell trying to go down there trying to operate their principles walking and she just fell down and she hit that ground hard a couple weeks later she died and of.

Scripture (NKJV)

Exodus 4:11 (NKJV)

So the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD?

— Exodus 4:11 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 8:29 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Where did positive thinking come from?

▶ Watch this part (8:30)

Short answer: He traces it to Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking (1952), Robert Schuller’s possibility thinking (1955) and Bill Gothard in the 1960s, and says denominations have made great mistakes before.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 8:30 Course it’s not the minister’s fault it’s whose fault hers for not having what faith not money donating enough and not talking positive enough. Totally contrary I submit to you this woman has the mind of God. Amen because this is all through the Bible who made the lame and who made the blind God did. Okay. Now. You’ll notice all of these guys are charismatic or pentecostals most of them except for this last [unclear]. But Norman Vincent Peale came out in 1952 with the power of positive thinking this is this is Trump’s minister.

What mistakes have denominations made?

▶ Watch this part (9:28)

Short answer: He says the Southern Baptists were founded on the doctrine that slavery was biblically correct, and the southern Methodists and Presbyterians the same, and that the Pope sided with both sides. If ministers made great mistakes before, they can today.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 9:28 That’s who he went to listen to the power of positive thinking right from Trump’s mouth. Robert Schuller changed positive thinking to possibility thinking in 1955 drive-in theater Bill Gothard Basic Youth Conflicts used it in the 1960s Bill Gothard was a Baptist okay. Do you know the Southern Baptist was founded on the doctrine that slavery is biblically correct did you know that yes that’s why they split from the northern Baptist did you know the southern Methodist and the southern Presbyterian was organized and created for the same reason. You’re looking at me like you don’t read history.

▶ 10:24 You need to know this stuff did you know the southern Catholics got the Pope to declare that slavery was okay. You don’t know this stuff now you got to know this stuff. Alleluia the biggest denomination in America Southern Baptist got started saying slavery was biblically correct and the northern Baptist separated from them because of it they used to be one Baptist they wasn’t the northern Baptist and a Southern Baptist there was one Baptist it’s good for you to know alright my point is this. Denominations have made great mistakes in the past and ministers have made great mistakes in the past is it possible they can make great mistakes today yes.

▶ 11:21 The pope allowing the south to have slavery was a that was ridiculous and the pope tried to side with the north and the south at the same time you ought to read about it it’s very interesting they just want to keep people in the fold whatever but bill Gothard I went to his seminars and they were good but they were based on psychology and when it comes to interpreting scriptures he wasn’t worth five cents the way he used scriptures was just amazing and I even asked in one of his seminars I go did I asked the leader the seminar do these people ever think for themselves and seek God for themselves or they just listened to Bill Gothard and he said sadly they just listened to him because he said something that was totally idiotic totally out of Bible character about the jealousy.

What happened after the great awakening of the late 1940s?

▶ Watch this part (12:18)

Short answer: He saw his parents saved and changed in the late-40s awakening, with miracles and new truths, lasting into the 70s—but decline began almost immediately through these doctrines.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 12:18 Offering was just ridiculous alright thus starts a decline of christianity. From the fourth great awakening in 1948 in the late forties God moved in this nation I was a kid when it happened my parents got saved in the late 40s I watched them get baptized I watched them change their life just radically change their life over a period of years tremendous move of God miracles like you can’t believe were going on God confirming and new truths that came out with just powerful and this awakening lasted till the 70s close to the 80s okay but right you’ll see right quick the beginning of the decline started almost immediately after God move.

What did Hannah’s prayer promise?

▶ Watch this part (13:11)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 2:9–10: he will guard the feet of his saints, the wicked shall be silent in darkness, by strength no man shall prevail, and the Lord’s adversaries will be broken in pieces. He says neither Trump nor Hillary will save America—God will.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 13:11 Sad. Ah. And I’m trying to get you to understand that there’s something going on in America and only God can cure it but he has moved four times in what they call great awakening it’s in all the encyclopedias it is a it is something accepted in history that yes there was a spiritual awakening even the unbelievers accept that fact all right but we get in the way with these doctrines now continued with the story behind the verse she keeps praying and she prays God’s promises and God cannot lie isn’t that true all right and these promises she’s praying is throughout the Bible just like her first prayer about the being exalted and lowered and rich and poor it’s not just her it’s it’s continuous throughout the Bible first Samuel 2:9 here’s her prayer God will guard the feet of his saints he will defend the feet of his saints he will protect. The feet is the direction you’re walking in is it it’s the path the path of justice is a shining light in that right that grows brighter and brighter we can’t see down in the distance but we know we’re on the right road and that

▶ 14:42 is our faith. This is all the way through the Bible that he will protect these people it’s all through the Bible nothing new but the wicked number two will be silent in darkness the wicked are cast into outer darkness see it’s backed up all through the Bible. There is a hell there is a lake of fire okay that’s God’s promise and God cannot lie. By strength no man shall prevail. By your own strength by your own intellect you are not going to win and I submit to you the Democrats and the Republicans aren’t going to save America. Neither Trump nor Hillary are going to save America it’s going to take God folks.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Samuel 2:9-10 (NKJV)

He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. “For by strength no man shall prevail. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed.”

— 1 Samuel 2:9-10 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:11

How did the awakening affect America?

▶ Watch this part (15:38)

Short answer: “One nation under God” and “In God We Trust” were added in the 50s, 60 percent went to church (27 percent now), the Supreme Court called separate-but-equal a moral issue and overturned the 1896 decision, and evangelicals separated from fundamentalists.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 15:38 Now remember in the 50s when this awakening came is when it was put in our pledge of allegiance one nation under God that’s when it was put in during this great awakening. It was during this great awakening and In God We Trust was put on our money [unclear] till then are you there I mean I lived through this there was a tremendous move of God in America christianity was was exalted and and spoken well of and sixty percent of people went to church every Sunday sixty percent it’s twenty-seven percent now. And. Listen to this it was in this awakening that the Supreme Court said that equal but separate is not a legal issue that previous Supreme Court decisions have a precedence over they said equal but separate is a moral issue it’s the difference between right and wrong and on that perception they overturned in the Supreme Court.

▶ 16:55 Equal but separate decision that the Supreme Court made in 1896 are you with me now is that confirmation that God’s moving in our nation not just in the church but he’s moving in our nation amen. Alleluia. It was this awakening where evangelicals separated from the fundamentalist. Evangelicals weren’t even known until. The awakening the fundamentalist if you don’t fellowship with us you fellowship with others then you’re out of it evangelical said no we’ve got to unite and Billy Graham came out of that and he accepted Catholics and anyone in his meeting are you here. Alleluia. Now.

Why didn’t Israel receive the promises?

▶ Watch this part (17:50)

Short answer: God can’t lie, so there was a reason. Judges 21:25: there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes—the same as America today.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 17:50 You know. These football players can disobey the national anthem all they want they’re not going to win this battle in America it’s going to be God and us turning back to morality could that be an amen yes. Now listen to this the adversary’s of the Lord shall be broken in pieces that’s all through the Bible. And is connected she’s praying by the spirit of God she’s connected. Yet Israel was smitten and fled to their own homes. After God prayed through this woman his promises Israel didn’t receive the promises are you with me why.

▶ 18:49 There has to be a reason God can’t lie right. We’re going to go on in the scripture to find it’s exactly like that in the United States and the Christians in it today why is exactly the condition America’s in. Judges 21:25 in those days there was no king in Israel. Now there was a government in Israel if you know your Bible the high priest was the leader and the priests were the Judges and now right but there wasn’t the king there wasn’t sovereignty every man did what was right in his own eyes they weren’t listening to the priests and you’ll find out why in a minute.

What were Eli’s sons doing?

▶ Watch this part (19:49)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 2:12–22: they were priests who did not know the Lord, changed the service of the tabernacle to please men—like seeker-friendly churches—and lay with women at the tabernacle door as pagans did. He says government and much of the church now permit sexual sin.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 19:49 Here’s the key every man every person man is also used this person has got nothing to do with a male or female it and here it’s person every person did what was right did what was right in their own eyes all right. Same in America today aren’t people doing what’s right in their own eyes yeah. First Samuel 2:12 the sons of Eli were priests Eli’s the high priest okay. They were corrupt they were evil people they did not know God. Their priests and they don’t know God do we have ministers today that are ministers and don’t know God yeah and if you read first John you know why they don’t know God you know how to tell if they don’t know God or not.

▶ 20:49 Their sin was very great before the Lord for men abhorred the offerings of the Lord they changed the service of the tabernacle. They changed the way things were done did it their way do we have that going on in America church services to please men they called it seeker friendly yeah seeker friendly. Don’t please God please man just get them in get their money. All right. Verse 22 they lay with the women assembled at the tabernacles door the same door that Hannah prayed in front of for for a son is where these women were gathered together and these sons of Eli were having sex with them now you got to remember that in pagan religions this was a normal thing they stirred up their gods by having sex right in their rituals and their worship so these women were out there ready and these guys these priests.

▶ 22:03 had sex with them right there at the temple door. With the ark of the covenant in God’s presence right behind the curtain are you got it that’s bad is sexual permissiveness permissiveness going on in America today is our government passing laws to prevent it. To permit it absolutely they are is the church. Permitting it absolutely. The majority of the church don’t even talk about adultery fornication or any of that stuff anymore and they talk favorably about homosexuality same-sex marriage same sex sex they talk favorably they say it’s okay.

What did Eli fail to do?

▶ Watch this part (23:00)

Short answer: Eli’s sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them; today few preachers correct anyone. The word of the Lord was rare—yet like the 7,000 who hadn’t bowed to Baal, there are thousands of good Christians lacking teaching.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 23:00 They write their own Bible now you know adultery and fornication and going out on your wife or your husband even it isn’t even mentioned today it’s not even brought up. So they’re copying the pagans way of worship. Eli’s sons made themselves evil how many of you know you can’t blame society you can’t blame your parents you can’t blame God when you choose to do wrong you choose to do it yourself. Yes. They made a choice they made themselves evil and Eli’s a high priest did not rebuke or correct them and we don’t have very much correct preaching going on in America we don’t want to say anything to offend people because mega churches are out for the mega attendance and the mega [unclear] programs and you know if they mention any kind of current issue or political issue or or what they call Bible offensive issues that are not offensive at all if you want right.

▶ 24:21 Only if you want wrong is a Bible issue offensive to you are you with me. Ministers aren’t rebuking the people I watch it on TV I watch them embrace. Famous people that are in open sin and just and act like they are holy righteous people it’s horrible and of course the word of God was rare in those days and there was no widespread revelation it’s men’s doctrine doing what they think is right in their own eyes in the United States today.

Did God’s presence mean approval?

▶ Watch this part (25:14)

Short answer: They had God’s presence on the ark and good beliefs, but not good behavior. Titus 1:16: they profess to know God but in works deny him. They lost because of faith in their faith, not because God failed.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 25:14 Some people are following truth folks there’s there’s a lot of good Christians still in America do you understand that just like the 7000 in Israel had not bowed to Baal there is thousands of good Christians they’re lacking teaching they’re lacking in a good leaders but they’re there all right but the rest are into psychology and men the doctrines of human doctrines. Remember they had God’s presence where did God dwell on the ark at that time literally he dwelt there he spoke from that they could hear his audible voice from the ark of the covenant at this time are you here. Alleluia they had his presence and I’ve told you over and over his presence is not his approval.

▶ 26:15 Man. They had good beliefs they believed in God they believed in the scriptures their belief was good but they didn’t have good behavior as. We saw right yeah they had good faith their faith was in God the faith was in the scriptures but they didn’t have good conduct. Titus 1:16 sums it up they profess that they know God but in works they what deny him you see they were corrupt they were evil they were doing wrong that’s why they lost the battle not because God can’t fulfill his promises it was because God’s people had their faith in their faith just like in America people have faith in their faith my faith is because I have faith in Jesus that everything’s going to be all right I’m going to go to heaven I’m going to be successful I’m going to their faith is in their faith not their faith is in the Bible truths to act them out.

What did they do to receive the promise?

▶ Watch this part (27:28)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 7:3–4: return to the Lord with all your hearts, put away the foreign gods, prepare your hearts and serve him only, and he will deliver you. They put away the Baals and Ashtaroth. Hebrews 10:36: after you have done the will of God you receive the promise.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Pastor David G. Kincer

▶ 27:28 Now that was good and they lost the battle and we’ve been losing the battle for decades why because of this nonsense is going on in the church and going on in America. Now what did they do to receive God’s promise it they’re going to change things things are going to change here real quick. first Samuel 7:3 through 4 Samuel spoke Samuel spoke to all Israel saying if you return what’s another word for return repent turn from your way turn to the new way turn from going your own opinions turn to going God’s truth turn repent see admit you’re wrong and turn from the wrong.

▶ 28:22 With all your hearts and we just covered that in the last session first commandment is love God put away the foreign gods and the false gods put away idols and put away your own created gods your own opinions put them away. Prepare your hearts for the Lord and serve him only hallelujah. Now read this with me when they do this read it with me he will deliver you. Who. God will deliver you folks we can’t do this on our own just like in the late forties when God turned this nation around and turn the church around it takes him we give ministers credit all they exalted Billy Graham and they exalted Oral Roberts oh the exalted these people but let me tell you it was God I was there and there was a tremendous presence of God in the churches drawing you to Jesus powerful I don’t care what church you went to there was a that was a powerful drawing presence of God there.

▶ 29:42 And the Philistines are the unbelievers are the unbelievers ruling over America now absolutely they weren’t in the 50s they weren’t in the 60s they started declining in the 60s. So the children of Israel turned they repented they put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth which is false gods and served the Lord only when they actually repented and started applying right principles. In. Hebrews 10:36 a verse not used too often by people you have need of what patience that after you have done the will of God read this with me after you have done the will of God you.

▶ 30:41 you receive the promise and what was one of those promises that he would destroy our enemies. He would exalt us. And then after you’ve done the will of God not just faith as part of his will but behavior our lifestyle is his will. Amen then you receive the promise you don’t receive the promise just by faith faith that moves you to act it’s what gets the promise. Faith in his word not faith in your faith yeah that’s what got going in that late 50s faith in your faith and I believe I believe so it’s going to happen.

▶ 31:37 So idols and false gods are not God’s will being right in your own eyes is not God’s will sexual immorality of any kind is not in God’s will corruption and not knowing God that’s not in his will having your own church service order and your own doctrines aren’t God’s will can I hear an amen see God’s will is for us to follow his truth and he will deliver us he saves us by the way you don’t get saved by joining a church you get saved by having a meeting with Jesus Christ who can save you and cleanse you amen he’s the savior.

How did God defeat their enemies?

▶ Watch this part (32:20)

Short answer: 1 Samuel 7:10, 13: the Lord thundered on the Philistines and confused them, and they came no more all the days of Samuel. We must behave like champions—strong in the word and Spirit, not by might—repent and fight with the sword of the Spirit, the word of God.

▶ 32:20 So God defeated his people’s enemies in first Samuel 7:10 the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel here we have another battle and the Lord who did it the Lord thundered upon the Philistines and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel do we need God the thunder in America today and confuse our adversaries yes in another place he thundered upon the men and they fought one another they they divided between each other God can do things folks that we can’t do and all he asked us to do is be honest with ourselves repent from our sins our foolishness our own opinions our own beliefs our own way of doing things and turned to his way and he will move God thundered.

▶ 33:12 Alleluia. The Philistines came no more into the territory of Israel all the days of Samuel it was a lasting thing. Amen ah. We folks must behave like champions of God. Could that be an amen. We’ve got to be strong. As champions we got to be strong in the word and in the spirit not by might not by power but by my spirit said Lord not your own might not your own power it’s not a government power it’s not any power but his power and his truth the truth set you free not people’s opinions we gotta turn we got to repent just keep repenting keep turning from our way and we gotta fight we can’t just hide in these church walls.

▶ 34:18 When we do this we fight with the sword of the spirit the sword of the spirit is the word of God the spirit the word is spirit Jesus said when you’re following the word you can’t be more in the spirit because the word is spirit you don’t have to have chill bumps goose bumps or anything if you’re following the word you’re following the spirit yes. So Jesus may confuse and deliver us from our enemies would you like to see God confuse our enemies today. Yes and he can do that he can divide him against themselves God can his ways are above our ways ain’t that what the Bible says we can’t go back through history [unclear] no we just need God to do whatever he wants to do to correct this problem and awaken America back to truth and Jesus again is that an amen we got to become men we got to start behaving like champions. Hello there we have a champion he’s made us champions and we’ve got to be strong and fight.

About this transcript

This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words.
