On Father’s Day the message walks through the prodigal son, who wanted only his portion. This life isn’t our whole portion; we create distance from God, waste what we have, and end up serving someone. When the son came to himself and arose, the father ran to him and restored him. Make a full comeback to the Father.

How much of God do we want?

▶ Watch this part (0:20)

Short answer: On Father’s Day: the prodigal son only wanted a portion of his father’s goods; do we want a part, or all of Him, loving much like the woman who washed His feet?

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 0:20 Well welcome this morning good to have everybody good to be in God’s house I hope everybody got one of the sheets so you can follow along anytime somebody put scripture in front of me I want to read it I want to know I want to understand and uh you know you have some good scriptures in your hands there very important we’re going to be talking about the prodigal son this morning and of course it’s uh related to the message of uh Father’s Day and our father amen again it’s good to have everybody we had a good fellowship time this morning and uh we will be fellowshipping a little bit after afterwards uh thank you again for joining us in Luke 15:1 the son came to his father and he said give me the portion of the goods that falls to me and so he divided to them his livelihood and gave the portion to his son so this prodigal son he knew his father but he only wanted a portion or a part of what his father had and it’s the same with God today in our lives we have to decide how much we want of God do we want a portion do we want a part do we want a piece or do we want all of him do we want to love God a little bit do we want to love God in just a certain way that we want to love him or will we love him wholeheartedly like the woman who came before him and washed his feet

▶ 1:51 he said her sins are forgiven for she what loved much she gave everything and we want to give everything not just. Part God created the universe and everything that is in it so whether we believe or do not believe whether we’re unbelievers or believers we have to decide if we just want a portion or a part of what God has provided uh and not wanting the eternal.

Is this life our whole portion?

▶ Watch this part (2:27)

Short answer: Men of the world have their portion in this life; Jesus prepares many mansions, and the destitute who serve God have a big reward.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 2:27 Things in Psalms chapter 17 verse 14 the scriptures if you go through them you know it’ll keep you awake cuz right you know if I were to hear my voice right now I might fall asleep you know if you’re tired so please that that thing is helpful Psalm 17:14 deliver my life from the wicked from men of the world who have their portion in this life whose belly you fill with your hidden treasure they are satisfied with children and they leave the rest of their possession for their babes and so the scripture is just pointing out that in life there is a portion that God God has provided he’s given everybody a uh something to have in this world but that’s not that’s not the whole thing you see you have eternity you have life you have eternal life Jesus Christ said to his disciples I in my father’s house are what many mansions and he said I go to prepare a place for you you see there’s more that God has for us there’s more that God has for the poor people that are living in Africa and they’re destitute and they’re starving you know when they serve God they have a big reward in heaven and in America we we we focus a lot on all of our uh you know the wealth that we can gain and the possessions that we can have but God has so much more and he has eternally an eternal reward so

Who creates distance from God?

▶ Watch this part (3:58)

Short answer: We do; the son journeyed to a far country, and Israel forsook the Lord, but He will never leave you.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 3:58 don’t be we can’t just be satisfied with with uh with God’s setup here in the world. Amen having a family is a good thing and given by God but that’s not everything how we treat them is important how we treat God is important we got to include all that stuff as for me I will see your face in righteousness I shall be satisfied when I wake in your likeness so this guy in Psalms he cares about becoming more like Christ and like the father it’s called the divine nature you want to take on the nature of God and many people today think that when you die you just rot in the grave and that is the end of course we know that’s not true there’s a portion uh and people think that their portion in life is just 80 years and that’s it they try to get as many possessions and wealth and a family as much as they can have uh these can be good things but they are not eternal knowing God will lead to what eternal life and we must take on the nature of God so the son in Luke chapter 15:13 he says not many days says not many days after the younger son gathered all together and he journeyed to a far.

▶ 5:19 Country so he was there living with his father he had all these good things going on he was with his dad and he says dad I’ve had um. I want to get away right I want to get away and so he journeys he gathers all that he has he has his portion that God has given him his inheritance and he takes it to a far country and he puts distance between himself and his father and he goes off and you see we can do the same thing you can create distance between your God and yourself in Judges 2:12 it says they forsook the the Lord the God of their ancestors who had brought them out of Egypt and they followed and worshiped various gods and so this son the prodigal son put distance between himself and his father and we often like to blame God for being distant and hard to understand when we are the ones putting distance between ourselves and God we have a choice whether or not we’re going to spend time in his word or prayer and we are the ones that neglect time with him and his word so it’s important that we don’t leave and forsake God remember the scripture says that he will never leave you nor forsake you he’s there he’s going to be there he’s going to give you all of his love he’s going to be in your face he going to be like hey how you doing what what’s.

What did the son do?

▶ Watch this part (6:49)

Short answer: He wasted his possessions with wild living; iniquities separate us from God, and sin’s pleasures are fleeting.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 6:49 Happening but uh we have a choice are we going to forsake. Him in Luke 15:13 there he wasted his possessions with wild living the prodigal son did he went to a far country created a distance because he wanted to do his thing and Isaiah 59:2 says your iniquities have separated you from God your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not. Hear you see our sin separates us from God he went away to a far country to get away from his father it’s the same thing when we do those sins that we’re trying to put space but we don’t want God near us and this is what the prodigal son did in Luke. 55:14 he had spent all that was given to.

▶ 7:41 Him so whatever you may gain in uh being a Christian or believing in God and that initial oh believing in God I feel him I’ve been forgiven you see as time goes on you’ve got to keep renewing your relationship with God you got to keep uh uh working on and developing a relationship with God otherwise there’s going otherwise you’re just living off of what happened at a certain date and time with God when he had spent all there arose a severe famine in that land he began to be in. Want and you notice that uh it says in that land there was a famine he went to a far country went far away from his father’s house and his father’s land see the father’s land wasn’t in impacted by this famine the far country or as expressed here it’s the kingdom of darkness and sin only has pleasure for a season and there’s a price to pay in life for living in the kingdom of darkness.

▶ 8:49 But he went and he wasted his money and our choices can bring harm in Hebrews 11:25 Moses chose to be mistreated along with the the people of God rather to en enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin so we know that sin has there’s pleasure in sin for a time for a season there was everything was okay uh in the far country that this son had gone to for a time right but as time went on and after he had spent all his money there be became a famine and there was no famine in the father’s land. And it affected everyone in that far. Country so we got to remember that our wickedness in Jeremiah 2:19 it can hurt us it will harm us it corrects us it’s it’s uh that that far country is a place of uh it hurt it hurts you and you want to get out of there get me out of here Luke 15:15.

What happened in the far country?

▶ Watch this part (9:59)

Short answer: He fed swine and no one gave him anything; we will serve someone, Satan or Christ.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 9:59 He went and joined himself to a citizen of that country he sent him into his fields to feed swine and he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate and no one gave him anything he didn’t want to let go of that kingdom he didn’t want to let go of that far country he wanted to stay there and he attached himself to a citizen of the kingdom of darkness and he became the citizen’s. Servant and this is never the intention in the kingdom of dark darkness right it’s advertised as a place of freedom oh come on that we can be free a place of no rules get away from dad get away from your parents and be free no one gave him. Anything and so although the prodigal son left his father to have freedom he ended up having to give up his freedom to serve someone else to serve someone in the kingdom of darkness.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 15:15-16 (NKJV)

Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.

— Luke 15:15-16 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:59

When did he turn?

▶ Watch this part (11:00)

Short answer: When he came to himself: my father’s servants have bread enough; blessed are those who hunger for righteousness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 11:00 And we have to recognize that in this life we’re going to serve. Someone whether it’s someone in the kingdom of darkness and we know who is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness right that’s Satan. Or the kingdom of God Jesus. Christ and this famine could be talking about intangible riches peace joy love a good reputation eternity you know you know when you believe in God you may have a little bit of these things and when you go to a far country you spend it all and you have no way to renew it but when you’re in the father’s house in the father’s land and you spend time with him you can get these things and keep them in Luke chapter 15:17 when he came to himself he said how many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare and I perish with hunger blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied so this prodigal son he’s out he gets away from dad he spends everything now he’s he’s living and he’s serving a citizen of the of the far country but he comes to realization he says wait a second what am I doing here my father’s servants eat better than this my father’s servants have much more and I sit here I have a higher position

▶ 12:31 and I I perish with hunger while my servants are living high on the hog while go my father’s servants are living. High and the scripture says in Matthew 5:6 blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness do we hunger for God’s. Things do we hunger for what he wants what do we desire do we hunger in our hearts for the word of God and for father following him to love him the greatest thing that we can do is what love God do we have a desire in our heart to love him once we leave this place you’re going to have to make decision upon decision upon decision until we see you next Sunday and then the Sunday after that you’re going to have to make decision upon decision upon decision what and in all of your decisions are you going to make one to love.

What did he decide?

▶ Watch this part (13:27)

Short answer: I will arise and go to my father; we must come to God every day.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 13:27 God to to bring him honor Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father and will say to him father I’ve sinned against you against heaven and before you and I’m no longer worthy to be called your son make me like one of your hired servants so in his mind he just said you know what I just want to be like a servant you know I’m tired of serving these guys they don’t have anything I’m serving the kingdom of darkness and they’re not get they don’t they have nothing I want to go serve. God and in the kingdom of God he’s got stuff for me. Right and uh the son knew what he did what was wrong he humbled himself before his father he left the country see it’s important that we understand these steps they’re very simple but they’re very important at some point you have to decide I’m going to leave this place I’m going to leave the citizens of this place you got to turn your back on something and either you’re going to turn your back on God or you’re going to turn your back on the on Satan in this.

▶ 14:36 Kingdom amen and so he chose to leave that far country and he said I’m going to rise and go to my father he came to his father do do we understand those simple things in your life you’ got to come to Christ you got to come to God every day you got to decide am I going to come to the father am I going to come to him and take time for for him come to his word read it put it in me try to understand it ask him to open it up to. Me you also must understand that the father didn’t go begging his son and pleading with him walking by him please come back to the Father’s he knows what’s in the far country the father. Knows and he wants you to come back but he’s not going to force you he’s not going to make you it’s your choice it’s your choice so the son repented he turned and came back home and we must all make that decision.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 15:18-19 (NKJV)

I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’

— Luke 15:18-19 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 13:27

How did the father respond?

▶ Watch this part (15:44)

Short answer: He saw him a great way off, had compassion, ran and kissed him, and gave the best robe: He remembers our sins no more.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 15:44 Amen and we made that decision get out of that I don’t want that in my life Luke chapter 15:20 he arose and came to his father and when he was still a great way w great way off his father saw him had compassion ran fell on his neck and what kissed him and the father said to his servants quick bring the best robe and put it on. Him in Hebrews chapter 8:12 it says for I will forgive their wickedness and their and will remember their sins no more part of the new covenant is God is throwing you know when you come to him it says he’s going to forgive your sin and your wickedness and he’s not going to remember it anymore more see when his son showed up he wasn’t sitting there saying I told you you you dirty.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Luke 15:20-22 (NKJV)

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

— Luke 15:20-22 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:44

How should we come back?

▶ Watch this part (16:40)

Short answer: Make it a full comeback; don’t keep your toes in the far country. Love covers a multitude of sins.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Unidentified speaker (not clearly Pastor Kincer)

▶ 16:40 Rat right that didn’t happen when he run he ran to the father when he came to the father his father ran to him kissed him and the forgiveness was implied is there the love is there and he saids get the best robe get the this is I’m going to reestablish his position. Immediately he’s come. Back see that’s not the way God doesn’t treat us like people treat. Us when he came back when he came back to his father he said bring the best robe and put it on him and that’s fulfillment of the new covenant that God has made with us that he will remember our sins no more. Amen so when you come back to God make sure it’s a full comeback don’t try to don’t try to keep your toes back in the far country it’s too far to stretch your your don’t do.

▶ 17:42 It make a full commitment. Amen 1 Peter 4:8 says above all things have fervent love for one another for love will cover a multitude of sins be hospitable to one another without grumbling 1 John 4:8 says that he that loves not does not know God for God is say that with me God is love and we see that in this story the prodigal son the father loves his son and you are his children we were giving out some flyers today one of the sc one of the scriptures says that that he calls us children of God he loves us so much that he calls us his children amen. And because God is love the father’s love covers us covers a multitude of sin.

▶ 18:39 So I want to remind you the prodigal son made steps to turn away from the kingdom of darkness and we must do the same it’s important to leave our old sinful life behind and that stuff is still going to try and get you but but let’s keep addressing it in your life don’t ever approve it don’t ever say oh yeah it’s just part of me now and that’s who I am I’m a mixture now I’ve got my legs in the far country and I got my legs in God’s country it’s not it doesn’t work like that amen the distance is too. Far somebody’s going to pull you and I encourage you take and uh receive the pulling of Christ remember he wants to he wants to give you that full status again when you come back he loves you so much let’s bow our heads this.

About this transcript

This transcript comes from YouTube’s automatic English captions, which supply the timing and the words. Punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing were added from the speaker’s pauses and then corrected by hand, and obvious caption errors (names, Bible references) were fixed; his wording was not rewritten. “[unclear]” marks a word or name that was not clear. Editor notes: Captions read “prodal/prodical sun”; corrected to prodigal son. The recording places the message first (short, ~19 min) and a worship set after it (~33:25). The slug date (June 17) is the day after Father’s Day 2024. Select any time to jump to that moment on YouTube.
