Gray boxes are our own short answers and summaries.

From the sermonA Good Mother · Michael Silla▶ 0:00

A Mother’s Day message comparing good mothers to the church. Just as mothers nurture a child from conception to adulthood, the church—the bride and body of Christ—helps believers grow. A good mother won’t abort her children, and a good church won’t remove Jesus or taint the pure milk of the word; it calls for repentance and serves the least of these.

How does God work in our lives?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: Like a condemned house he purchases and rebuilds himself, he is the author and finisher of our faith—but long-term change is needed so we don’t trash the place again.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:00 A few weeks ago. On Easter we talked about how. God takes us in our condition like this house it’s listed as by the city as condemned because inside it’s got a lot of trash inside mold holes in the wall holes in the roof holes in the floor it’s just destroyed and that’s kind of like how some of us may have been before Jesus came along were listed as condemned but he comes and the Bible says he purchases us he buys us and some of us may take offense of that but it’s not offensive at all and he goes into the house and he begins to work on it himself and he begins to rebuild.

▶ 0:53 Until at the end there’s this wonderful outcome where he is finished he’s done the Bible says that he is the author and the finisher of our faith amen and he can do a great work in our lives. On a mother’s day we there is a rebuilding that’s done he makes us into that dwelling place but there’s some long-term change that has to be done you see that these folks are here they’re the ones that own the house but if they go in and they start to trash the place then it’s going to go back to its original state so they have to change the way they are there’s got to be some long-term change in their lives.

What is the goal of the Christian life?

▶ Watch this part (1:46)

Short answer: To grow. Hebrews 6:1: leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity—like a seed growing into a tree.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 1:46 It’s kind of like growing. From a plant to an adult tree or from a baby to an adult person there’s all these steps that you go through this plant at the beginning is very vulnerable it needs this and that it needs food all the way through there’s a whole process. The Bible says in Hebrews 6:1 therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity see we’ve got to grow that is the the goal is to grow as Christians we start from the baby we start from maybe just under the ground like that plant there under the ground it’s a seed and it’s sprouts and it begins to grow and that’s just like a Christian.

How are mothers involved in a child’s growth?

▶ Watch this part (2:43)

Short answer: From conception to about 20, moms carry, birth, feed and raise their children. He says he would rather have his good mother than millions of dollars.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 2:43 Which brings us to our wonderful mothers. There’s someone very important involved in our daily lives and about five to five of the six pictures here moms are involved right. Baby. Toddler I don’t know what this is here. Some stage oh. Look at that he’s calmed down now now he’s a teenager good Lord help you and now he’s off on his own but all these five pictures the mom is there the mother is there you know not so much cleaning diapers here but still raising that child taking care of the needs that need to be met.

▶ 3:37 From conception to about 20 years old moms are involved in a child’s growth they carry the baby they have to give birth to that baby they have to feed the baby they have it’s that I mean I watched it three times happen. It’s an amazing experience and you walk away with that thinking that things happen by accident it’s like wow. The whole time mom could could develop a human being inside of her it’s really it’s really crazy. She’s involved with the toddler right now we’re raising a baby girl she’s seven months [unclear] I get them all mixed up and right now she’s a baby and she’s crawling and she’s grabbing and she doesn’t she can’t talk she can’t walk she can’t help herself she [unclear] her own diaper you know it’s just the state she’s at but she smiles and just melts your heart right.

▶ 4:39 And moms are there to help you grow. And without a mom it’s really horrible 8% of children in America live without a mom and. fathers it’s a lot bigger [unclear] 5% live without either parent and it’s tough it’s tough on these kids it’s really tough we have some families here that that bring foster kids into their home and they raise them in and that’s tough on the kids right you guys amen. Whatever sin it is it’s going to hurt your child and I wouldn’t trade anything for my good mother you could give me a million dollars you could say I’ll give you the best house I’ll give you a great car I’ll get you a Rolls Royce worth millions of dollars I would say no I’d rather have my mom.

Why is the church so important?

▶ Watch this part (5:48)

Short answer: The church is the bride and body of Christ. Saul persecuted the church, and Jesus asked Saul why he was persecuting him. Jesus holds the church equal with him.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 5:48 She’s priceless she’s a good mom and a lot of young people that raised and raised up in the church we grew up with great moms I think y’all all would agree right guys you wouldn’t trade anything amen. And the church the Bible says in the church the Bible says that the church is the bride of Christ the church is that mother it says that the church is the body of Christ. Saul on the road to Damascus he was persecuting he was imprisoning he was killing those who belong to the church. He wasn’t able to touch Jesus he was touching the church and Jesus.

▶ 6:44 Suddenly a light shone around Paul from heaven and Paul fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him Saul Saul his name was Saul before Paul why are you persecuting me. We forget how important the church is. Jesus Christ holds the church equal with him. the church is so important going to church is so important [unclear] getting involved yet we throw it out the small percentage of Christians go to church and we would never as babies say mom see you later I don’t want I mean it would be impossible as a baby to be raised without some kind of mother.

Scripture (NKJV)

Acts 9:3-4 (NKJV)

How are Jesus and the church one?

▶ Watch this part (7:53)

Short answer: Matthew 19:5: the two shall become one flesh—picturing Jesus and the church. You are the body of Christ; mess with the church and you mess with Jesus.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 7:53 Matthew 19:5 for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife and the two will be one flesh see that’s talking about Jesus in church not just the husband and wife Jesus in the church he becomes one with us now you it says in Matthew 19:27 you are the body of Christ and members individually we are the body of Christ when you mess with the church you’re messing with Jesus as Saul found out when you’re messin with the kids you come to my house and you try to touch my kids you’re going to get a big bat in your head I mean no if they try to come and hurt my child okay not like you get what I’m saying. It’s like you’re messing with me I if I were to see my child get hurt I would immediately.

How do we serve Jesus?

▶ Watch this part (8:51)

Short answer: Matthew 25:35–40: I was hungry and you fed me... as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 8:51 Be feeling the pain it’s horrible I. Would be crushed I would be saying if I were to see my child something having a child it would hurt amen it’s the same with Jesus Christ he and you are one the Bible says that you are his offspring you are sons of God when you accept Jesus Christ and become born-again you are part of him and the church is part of your development. Don’t neglect the church the church is so important. Matthew 25:35 36 here Jesus again is saying something very profound for I was hungry you gave me food I was thirsty you gave me drink I was a stranger you took me in I was naked and you clothed me I was sick and you visited me I was in prison and you came to me and at the end he says the king will answer and say to them assuredly I say as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren the church.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Matthew 25:35-40 (NKJV)

for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

— Matthew 25:35-40 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 9:32

What does Hebrews 10:25 say?

▶ Watch this part (10:04)

Short answer: Do not forsake assembling together, but exhort one another, even more as you see the day approaching. Meeting Jesus with the body of Christ is unlike anything at home.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 10:04 You did it to me. It’s so important the church in God’s eyes is number one. We’ve got to start putting the things that he prioritizes as a priority in our lives amen. Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together as the manner of some is you know this is the scripture we always quote we don’t go to church we’re not involved we don’t. We get upset easily it says do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another lifting up one another.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV)

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

— Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 10:31

What does a good mother and a good church not do?

▶ Watch this part (10:57)

Short answer: A good mother won’t abort her children, and a good church won’t abort a Christian by removing Jesus. The devil seeks whom he may devour.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 10:57 Helping one another loving one another even more so as you see the day approaching if you guys think that Jesus is coming tomorrow then we should be assembling we should be here on Sunday amen. The church is Jesus Christ meeting Jesus I can tell you from experience meeting Jesus experiencing Jesus is better than any experience I’ve had at my house I mean he will speak to you something that he wouldn’t speak to at home he’ll touch you in a way that you wouldn’t get touched at home it’s a whole different feel it’s a whole different experience when you are with the body of Christ. So a good mother a good mother naturally they will not abort their children 19 percent of children in America today are aborted every year you pull out your fingers and just take away two your fingers have somebody cut them off I’m sorry no take out your hand have somebody take out take off a finger it’s gone that’s what it’s like one out of five kids are gone and the Devil is out to abort he’s the Bible says he is out to devour and.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

— 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 12:28 (quoted; reference not named in the message)

Why is Jesus essential?

▶ Watch this part (12:29)

Short answer: John 14:6: I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me. John 10:30: I and my Father are one. Jesus is God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 12:29 [unclear] says he is seeking whom he may destroy. The Devil is out to destroy Christian he’s out to turn you from somebody who’s following Christ to somebody who is in the kingdom of darkness. and you abort a Christian by removing the key ingredient and that is Jesus Christ when you remove Jesus out of it you are you’re removing the whole thing and children’s church the answer half the time is always Jesus who is the one that can save you Jesus who is the king of kings who’s the [unclear] Jesus. Because he is so great he is so awesome. The scriptures say in John 14:6 Jesus answered him he said I am the the that word means only.

▶ 13:31 That’s it it stops there the way I am the way I am the direction you see when you are on a road trip you’ve got to stop and say okay how do I get to where I’m going if you want to drive to the east coast or Las Vegas wherever you’re going you’ve got to stop and say what road am I taking and if you want to get to eternal life Jesus is the only road. That is so imperative I am the way I am the truth what is truth. We don’t believe in truth anymore Jesus he is the truth when he said these statements in the New Testament he’s not lying he’s being true he said he was the son of God and the life you want.

▶ 14:27 This is it right here he’s the life the reason why you’re a Christian is because he is living in you. No one comes to the father except through me when you take Jesus out of the equation you are aborting churches do that they’ll start using a different Bible they’ll start using a different book they’ll say that Jesus is just a prophet they’ll say Jesus is just [unclear] you can’t do that he is the life and when you remove him you remove everything. John 10:30 Bible says Jesus said I and my father are one. Talking to a co-worker and she was talking to her co-workers and they were telling her that Jesus wasn’t God and she said [unclear].

What did Jesus tell Peter?

▶ Watch this part (15:22)

Short answer: John 21:15–17: do you love me? Feed my lambs, feed my sheep. Like a baby fed through its mother, what the church teaches affects the Christian.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 15:22 Well how could they say that said they’re wrong Jesus is God he’s the son of God. There’s only one God he is God the word became flesh the word was God it’s all Jesus Jesus is God God is Jesus Immanuel God with us it’s all the same. Good mother a good church will not abort John 21:15 Jesus said to Peter Simon son of John do you love me more than these he’s talking to Peter do you love me and the Lord said you know that I love you Jesus said feed my lambs which comes to the next point and it’s not talking about lambs here talking about his church feed my sheep the sheep we are his sheep.

▶ 16:21 And that comes you see when the baby is forming inside there is a direct connection with mom whatever mom eats the baby gets whether it’s good or whether it’s bad. You see when the church when they start teaching things that are tainted it will affect. The Christian. Smoking drinking alcohol. Certain street drugs during pregnancy that all is going to go into the child. This baby right here she he’s shaking he’s just shaking and he can’t stop because he’s going through withdrawals. Why because mom was taking heroin the night before it’s horrible well we put our kids through both naturally and in the spirit in in the church churches you can’t just taint the word of God you can’t taint what Jesus has said.

Scripture in this part

Scripture (NKJV)

John 21:15-17 (NKJV)

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

— John 21:15-17 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 15:50

What is the pure milk of the word?

▶ Watch this part (17:32)

Short answer: 1 Peter 2:2: desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow. Hebrews 6:1 names repentance from dead works—the church in America is backing down from addressing sin.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 17:32 1st Peter 2:2 as newborn babies desire the pure milk the pure milk of the word the pure word. That you may grow thereby you don’t have the pure milk of the word you’re going to have the trouble growing. And. It defines it in Hebrews 6:1 it says repentance from dead works you see we have right now in America the church has a big problem with addressing sin. The church is backing down from saying that’s wrong the church is backing down from addressing and saying you’ve got to change your life you’ve got to repent and that is the pure milk of the word if you take that if you put in something else it is going to hurt the Christian.

— Hebrews 6:1 (NKJV)▶ Hear it at 17:32

Can we help our sin?

▶ Watch this part (18:33)

Short answer: Yes. Don’t approve your sin—ask God for help, read your Bible and pray. He says the church avoids sex before marriage and same-sex relations—“it’s all wrong”—and no one may taint the scriptures.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 18:33 You guys we got to stop excusing and approving of our sin I remember a young man it was come to me said yeah I just can’t help myself I just get into fight I just can’t yes you can help yourself. Don’t approve your sin you can change. You can stop if you start putting the process into place where you start saying God help me with this problem God help me just read your Bible and pray and ask God God will work it out of you. Repent repentance from dead works that means you got to turn that is is so key. Christians today we’ve got to turn. We have trouble addressing the sexual immorality going on in America today we don’t talk about sex before marriage because everybody’s doing it same sex with the same sex it’s all wrong and you we’ve got to repent it doesn’t matter if you come up with your statement oh I can have sex because we are two consenting adults that’s not what Jesus said you cannot taint the scriptures you don’t have a right to do that.

What else is scriptural?

▶ Watch this part (19:53)

Short answer: Faith toward God, water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism—God’s power enabling you to live for Jesus.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 19:53 Churches you don’t have a right to do that church leaders you don’t have a right to do that. It’s imperative to go to a church that is feeding the pure milk of the word. faith toward God. Baptisms getting baptized water baptism people aren’t getting water baptized anymore it is very scriptural Holy Spirit baptism that’s scriptural allowing God to come with this power you don’t need to speak in tongues he’ll just come and he’ll enable you to live as a Christian that loves and will seek after and serve Jesus Christ how many you want that I need that it’s not easy. We all need that you know sometimes you need a little zap in your life who wants to go around live without any [unclear] a pep in your step a little [unclear] you know that’s what the Holy Spirit is it’s a little zap in your life.

Can we trust the resurrection accounts?

▶ Watch this part (20:55)

Short answer: Yes. Peter and the disciples were eyewitnesses; you don’t forget seeing someone come out of the grave. Eternal judgment: there is a price for sin everywhere, but grace gives power to turn.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 20:55 you know who wants to [unclear] let me drill a hole through this piece of wood okay [unclear] I’ve got a drill right here with some [unclear]. What do you want as a Christian I’d rather have some power and that’s what Jesus can offer through the Holy Spirit. The resurrection as we learned last time we were on Easter we learned all about the resurrection Jesus you know and this is this is very troubling Americans today have a big problem with believing that Jesus can actually do miracles that he created the world in six days we have trouble believing that he is the son of God we have trouble believing that he rose from the grave himself picked his own life back up we say all in all the Bible it was written by men they got confused when it went from one table to the next it all got discombobulated it’s not true you guys Peter says he was an eyewitness and he’s writing these things you don’t forget.

▶ 22:06 When you see somebody come out of the grave you don’t forget you don’t mess that up 24,000 times that’s how many times the manuscripts have been written. You don’t mess that up and you don’t forget it the disciples wouldn’t forget that oh. I thought I thought he said that he was resurrected oh you mean he he just went into the grave and came out you know because he was getting something no they’re not confused you guys Peter walked out on the water that was a dream it wasn’t a dream he experienced it. These guys were eyewitnesses they wrote it they weren’t confused.

▶ 23:02 You don’t need to remember. All the details about how [unclear] Jesus healed a blind person you can remember that from here 20 to 20 years from now you can remember that were you there when Jesus that blind I was there you couldn’t see all the sudden he could see yes I was there I didn’t forget that. Eternal judgment again we have to come to a place where we are repentant. there is a price to pay for sin and this affects the whole world all of America all of China all of Russia Asia Australia the south east Asia South America North America every person everyone this is not just a message for people that come into this building.

▶ 23:59 Sin is all over the world and there’s a penalty. Habitual sin where it becomes a habit where you do not break that habit you see when you become a Christian you make mistakes you do still sin and you go to Jesus and say Jesus I need you to help me get this out of my life and he’ll take it he nails it to the cross kills it oh says okay try again I’ll help you try again keep trying keep trying til one day it’s out of your life. but when you have no [unclear] you’re just sinning like crazy [unclear] by grace no. You need to repent by his grace it’s time to turn by his grace the grace is enablement the grace gives you power the grace gives you something to turn and change.

2 Peter 1:16 (NKJV)

Can we serve before we’re mature?

▶ Watch this part (24:59)

Short answer: Yes—like a child eager to help with the baby, you can be used by God wherever you are. Helping children who come with little is helping Jesus; children are a gift from God.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 24:59 At every stage I have a daughter she’s five years old her name’s Brooklyn and she know what she can go I’ll send her with the task hey Brooklyn can you get this can you get this for the baby can you do that for the baby and Brooklyn she’s running as fast as she can to get whatever it is that she needs to get for the baby you know she likes to hold the baby she like I would say Brooklyn [unclear] whoa hey hey you’re a little too rough but in her at her age she wants to help she wants to give something you see when you come to church it doesn’t matter where you’re at in God you can you can be used by God where you are [unclear] you got this teenager here he’s helping his mom with the dishes or her sister I can’t tell you no he’s helping he can actually drive and get groceries like this girl here she’s driving to go get groceries for mom to help out you know it’s Christians there’s a lot that you can do where you’re at in Jesus Christ as while you’re growing and to become a mature Christian you can help with things so I just want to remind you in closing the church and Jesus Christ Jesus says the church and me are inseparable we are one you mess with me you mess you mess with the church you’re messing with me and you

▶ 26:30 don’t want to mess with Jesus. Jesus and the church are one the church is the body of Jesus Christ Matthew 25 we want to be reminded the scriptures here are focusing on the children I was hungry and you fed me thirsty you gave me some of the drinks stranger you took me in naked you clothed me sick you visited me in prison and you visited me [unclear] I can’t remember Matthew 25:40 as you did it to one of the least of these and it’s talking about those wonderful children our children. Are so innocent we have some children here that come to our church sometimes they have to sleep in a car sometimes they come to church and they don’t have much.

▶ 27:25 You know and we help those kids we’re helping Jesus Christ when you give your time when you sacrifice when you make the effort to offer. Whatever it is that you come to do here at the church or wherever sure whatever church you go to you’re doing it for Jesus Christ and our children need. People. Sacrificing their time giving an effort and I think of this message it’s so important to be reminded of how important the church is. You know we understand how important Jesus is he’s the only one that can save us he’s the only one that died on the cross for your sin but the church is just as important.

▶ 28:19 He the church is the one that can that God has set up for to help you grow just like a mother. And mothers and fathers parents. God has given you the Bible says that children are a gift from God and we are responsible for how we treat those children we are responsible how they are raised what harm comes to them from us that could have been prevented.

Sensitive content kept as spoken: a “big bat in your head” for anyone hurting his kids; a baby in heroin withdrawal; sex before marriage and same-sex relations “all wrong”; Americans doubting miracles and creation in six days.
