Purge the leaven of wickedness. God promises the remnant fruit: the seed of the word, abiding in the Vine, patient pruning and the dew of heaven. Lift the gates of old barriers so rivers of living water can flow.

What is the leaven?

▶ Watch this part (0:00)

Short answer: The Feast of Unleavened Bread was a shadow—purge the leaven of wickedness, which affects the whole lump.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 0:00 Welcome this morning it’s good to be in God’s house we’re going to get right into the message this morning thank you for joining us. Again going to be going back into being a fruitful. Christian uh we’re going to begin with the shadow of the week unleavened bread uh last week we were talking about how Paul writes and says that we are no longer under law but under grace and what we shared was that he’s talking about the types and shadows of the law and not necessarily about every moral law and we brought up theft stealing uh hurting people those laws have not been thrown out but here is a shadow law of the weak in Exodus 12:15 it says seven days you shall eat unleavened bread so they had a law or they had a feast of unleavened bread where they would eat unleavened bread for seven.

▶ 1:03 Days okay do you remember the last time you did your feast of unleavened. Bread no because it is a shadow it’s pointing to the real thing and the real thing is found in Corinthians 58 Paul explains and anytime the New Testament explains something in the Old Testament we want to pay attention he says therefore let us keep the feast pe not with the leaven of malice and wickedness but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth and what he’s saying here is that the leaven or the yeast that causes dough to rise uh is an illustration of wickedness when you add wickedness in your life it affects the whole do uh but Paul he’s he’s giving us the understanding of what leaven is it’s.

▶ 2:06 Wickedness he said let us not keep the feast with wickedness but with unleavened bread so what happened was the Jews kept kept uh keeping this feast but they were living. Wickedly and see we missed the point when we follow these shadow laws and we live wickedly that’s not the point of the whole thing. That’s number. One secondly the leaven is likened to wickedness as I already said and lastly if you bring a little wickedness into your life it will affect your whole person you can’t just compartmentalize oh I’m going to keep this wickedness over here I’m going to I’m going to uh I’m going to murder somebody but I’m not going to do drugs.

▶ 3:00 You know you’ve committed the wickedness it’s affecting your whole person right uh it’s that should be clear and that’s what’s said here uh just right after the that verse do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump a little bit of yeast affects the whole dough I have a video here if you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s a little. Illustration uh. I didn’t. Need so this is a time lapse of d that is being proved right proved they put the yeast in they put the leaven in and over two hours it creates those bubbles right and creates that bread that we so.

▶ 3:53 Love. But that yeast or that dough affects I’m sorry the the affects the whole lump that whole lump of dough so what malice and wickedness did these Jews have uh they’re all stated here in I have references for each one Matthew 23:2 uh they had greed and self-indulgence so we know greed is as idolatry right it’s it’s not good it’s you’re putting something above God they rejected Jesus the messiah they plotted to take his life is that uh I mean you keeping the unleavened bread feast but you’re wanting to kill Jesus is that right no that’s completely out of balance they were exploiting widows or taking advantage of vulnerable women is that right no it’s not right at all they make uh and these are all in red letters they made his house a dent of robbers he said instead of a house of prayer and so it’s important that we come to the cross this is why we need his blood we need his cleansing because once that leaven gets in there it affects your whole person and the only way to get that out is the blood of Jesus Christ it will cleanse us reset us and remove that leaven out

▶ 5:24 that leaven of wickedness out of us okay he don’t he doesn’t have to get rid you or he doesn’t have to throw you out he doesn’t have to kill you he can do the thing that men can’t do right with God all things are possible so God can come into that. Leaven and remove it. Amen so that is our shadow of the week going back to the remnant we’re talking about the remnant last.

Scripture (NKJV)

1 Corinthians 5:7-8 (NKJV)

Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Who will be saved?

▶ Watch this part (6:01)

Short answer: Only a remnant—and God promises the remnant fruitfulness.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 6:01 Week in Romans 9:27 this is one of the scriptures we brought up only a remnant of them will be saved it’s important that we be part of the remnant so that we can be what saved the remnant are the ones that did not bow their knees to bail or other gods and whose mouths have not kissed him so they’re not put you know they’re not serving other gods they’re not they stood strong no matter what was told them you can think of the example of um Daniel shadrach meshach and abednego they would not bow before the idol right even though they were commanded to they stood strong they were a remnant uh Revelations 12:17 the remnant of her offspring those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their fast their testimony about Jesus last week we were talking about those keeping those commandments so the remnant the evidence is that they keep God’s commands commandments and the testimony of Jesus.

▶ 7:04 Christ more on the remnant in Zechariah 8:11 now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days and he he starts to share a list of what is going to happen for the seed shall be prosperous the vine shall give its fruit the ground shall give her increase and the heavens shall give their due so we want learn we want to look into each one of these things the seed the vine giving fruit and the ground giving increase and the heavens giving their due and the the doe is going to be very important Zechariah 8:1 for the seed shall be prosperous and Luke 811 can you believe that 8 Luke 811 same place we find out what the seed is the seed is what is it the word of God the word of God the seed in Luke goes on to say in verse 15 the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart who hear the word retain it and by persevering produce a crop.

What leads to fruit?

▶ Watch this part (8:19)

Short answer: The seed of the word, and remaining in the Vine—Christ and His church are one.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 8:19 So what is going to lead us to produce fruit it starts with what the seed the seed is the beginning the word is the beginning the word is the beginning in everything you can’t throw out the word we need the word to grow and advance in our Christian. Life what needs to be kept and followed what is it the word what needs to be received with a good and noble heart what the word so important in all of these three aspects the word is important so as Christians it’s our prior priority that the word of God uh I’m sorry the word of God is our priority okay we have all these other things that we’re doing but number one is his word are we taking it in are we keeping it are we allowing it to grow in our spirit and are we receiving it with a good and noble heart or do we receive it with a stiff.

▶ 9:27 Neck right that’s what the Israelites were they were stiff stiff necked people God would say something he’ be. Like. No I don’t want. It. And the word of God is what produces results without that word we won’t have fruit so it’s important for us to go to Bible studies to hear the message keep it and he is promising that it will prosper in our lives when you apply you hear you keep it he’s promising you today even in 2024 that he will make it prosper in your Christian life and in your natural life too.

▶ 10:20 Amen Zechariah 8:12 the vine shall give its fruit John 15:1 this this is Jesus in red letters and he says I am the true vine remain in me and I as I also remain in you no branch can bear fruit by itself it must remain in the vine neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me a lot of people Christians are they’re accepting Jesus Christ into their heart and they do not remain in Christ meaning they accept Jesus they pray the prayer they want forgiveness and then they go about living their life and don’t give God another thought that is not remaining in Christ number one you come to the vineyard right the vineyard where the vine is amen and Jesus says that he’s going to build his church that’s where he is at that’s where he’s involved in so when we do not or neglect coming to his house getting involved in remaining faithful to his house we are not remaining in the vine.

▶ 11:39 Amen no branch can bear fruit by itself it must remain in the vine and neither can we bear fruit unless we remain in him and not only the church you know if you’re on an island and you don’t have a church to go to you are the church right you and God can you you know if you got a if you’re on an is island with the Bible you are the pastor you’re the congregation you’re. Everything all right but we don’t live on an island we live in california and there’s churches everywhere we’ve got to get tied into where Jesus is and what he’s. Doing remember when Paul when Saul of tarsus was on the road to damascus Jesus said to him what. Why are you persecuting.

▶ 12:32 Me and Jesus was was Saul persecuting. Jesus he was Jesus was already resurrected in heaven so why would Jesus say that because Saul of tarsus was persecuting the church you’ve got to understand how tied to the church Jesus is to him we are one with him amen and when we hurt one another we’re not you know you got to be.

▶ 13:05 Careful. Uh he was saying to Saul why are you persecuting me the church and Jesus are the same Psalms 1 famous scripture it’s the first Psalm that you’re going to read when you go to pray this week and you start and you sing a Psalm because that’s what we I know you guys do that on a daily basis you pull out the Psalms and you start singing a Psalm you can start with Psalms 1 this week you’re going to start we’re going to start and we’re going to sing this first Psalm and it’s going to say blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord meditates on it day and night he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water and that brings fruit forth its fruit in its season the leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper whatever he does shall prosper again that word prosper God wants us to prosper he wants us to bring forth fruit and what this is saying is is that if we remain in Christ we will bear.

Scripture (NKJV)

John 15:1-5 (NKJV)

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. Why does God prune?

▶ Watch this part (14:10)

Short answer: Every fruitful branch is pruned to bear more—growth takes patience.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 14:10 Fruit okay it’s just a matter of time it may take some patience there’s some fruit that bear fruit quickly there’s some fruit that take a long. Time and when that fruit bears and it’s no good uh we’re going to get to that in just a moment let me finish. Here Psalms 92:13 as this church very this this church knows very well because I’ve heard this scripture most of my life they that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of their God so I’m just giving you confirmation through the scriptures that it’s so important for us to be in his house to be connected to Jesus are we associated with Jesus or are we associated with the world when somebody meets you are you connected with Jesus are you connected with the world it’s all you know it’s obvious.

▶ 15:10 Right John 15:2 he cuts off every branch that bears no fruit while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more. Fruitful uh this is important because as you’re growing in God and you’re producing fruit the fruit may not be that great. Right so God’s going to come and he’s going to prune he’s going to cut things off he’s going to correct and that’s okay he doesn’t have to get rid of you because he’s pruning you right you can still stick with Jesus even while he is correcting God doesn’t get rid of us he just tunes us up amen uh but we have to be willing to receive that correction that cutting off that pruning.

▶ 16:04 Right uh through his word and through his truth when we accept Christ we’re not all of the sudden automatically pure it takes time um there’s something else in here I wanted to mention mention there’s some things in our life that we may have to cut off and let go because they’re hurting us and they’re hurting the people around us but God wants us to do it for our benefit he cares about us he loves us okay he’s not pruning or correcting because he’s mad at you he’s doing it so that you can bear what more fruit so you can be even more fruitful don’t we want that I want that I want.

▶ 17:04 That. Zechariah 8:12 the ground shall give her increase Psalm 67:6 the ye the land yields its harvest God our God blesses us may God bless us still so that all the the ends of the earth will fear him it’s so important to understand that God is after the whole world and he wants every one of us to turn to him and fear him christianity and serving God is not just for Americans it’s not just for europeans it’s for the whole world amen it’s for all of us and he’s saying that he’s going to bless it and that’s why we got to have God involved in this process we can’t just go around doing things the way we want to do them we’ve got to get God involved in the harvest and him making this stuff.

What is the dew of heaven?

▶ Watch this part (18:04)

Short answer: Like the mist that watered Eden, God’s water is always in the air—we must reach for it.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 18:04 Grow but we want to be the remnant right all of this is a promise for the remnant lastly the heavens shall give their doe in Genesis. 2:6 the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground so if you’re not familiar with the uh Genesis story it’s not a story it’s our beginning of the world okay it’s truth God created all things in seven days and he started with the garden of eden and everything around it but he made a garden and put uh Adam and Eve in it and it says that God did not cause it to rain on the earth but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground everywhere all throughout the earth was watered by this mist or could be do Genesis 2: 10 a river watering the garden flowed from eden from there it was separated into four.

▶ 19:26 Headwaters there was enough due there was enough of this mist on the earth that a river could flow through this garden of Eden and the dew is all that the garden needed to keep. Alive and uh I was doing some research to understand do okay so we’re going to go through that right now so dew happens because there’s water vapor in the air when it’s when it’s warm the sun is hitting all the moisture and it’s making a lot of water vapor in the air at night when things cool down or when you have a cold bottle of water something maybe frozen it’s colder than the warm air and when it touches that that uh that cold there’s called a dup point gets to a certain temperature and that water vapor becomes water when it touches that cold air same thing that happens with grass at night okay the grass gets cold and that warm air is hitting it and at there’s a there’s a d a temperature that it hits where it starts to condense and water is formed and the same thing happens at the beach I don’t know if you have ever been to the beach at night and all of a sudden you’re walking and it’s wet and you’re like why is there water over here the the

▶ 20:56 ocean’s there but there’s it’s wet on top because of dew anybody ever experienc this anybody know what de is have anybody seen this before all right. Awesome it rains on average 12 ines per year in lake elenor that’s our city a tree your average tree needs 1 to two inches I’m I’m going to say 2 in per.

▶ 21:31 Week so that is 104 in needed per year you know where I’m going with this so 12 minus or 104 minus 12 you’re we’re missing 92 ines of rain right to just uh survive in in lake elenor so of course you know we have sprinklers and everything and people water their stuff but in your spiritual world uh we we can’t just depend on 12 ines of spiritual rain per year as Christians you know God he brings the rain every once in a while right and there’s nothing you can do to stop the rain the rain is coming down and you’re going to feel it you’re going to you know you come into God’s house there’s certain uh days in in Vine Cluster church you come and God is here there’s no messing around amen and the rain pours.

▶ 22:29 And other days the rain’s not there. But. Uh the water vapor is in the air all the time we need another the source of water to keep us. Thriving and of course we know that in the scriptures just talking about the vine a couple slides ago we are like plants we are like trees we’re like a vine and we need water we we need spiritual. Water and we can’t wait for every rain in lake elenor amen we can’t wait for every rain in America right we’re not in the nations where God is you know raining down everything we’ve got to come up with a way to get some spiritual water.

▶ 23:23 Uh so that we can have that life. So the water of God is in that water vapor okay it’s just floating. By we’re like the grass we’re like the trees and there’s this water vapor how do we get that do that moisture out of that water vapor to come to our lives and give us that life that’s what we want to understand that’s what we want to get number one if you’re not a Christian you need to accept Christ right it starts with repenting and being baptized and you shall receive the Holy Spirit so step one is if you’re not a Christian if you don’t believe it’s time to believe if you haven’t repented and said okay I’m going to turn from my sin it’s time to turn from your sin if you haven’t been baptized water it’s time to get baptized in water that’s square one step one if you want that living water you’ve got to do the first step and repent be baptized number two Luke 17:20 the kingdom of God is in our midst the kingdom of God is near us Matthew 53 blessed are the poor

What barriers must we lift?

▶ Watch this part (24:54)

Short answer: Lift up your heads, you gates—remove excuses like “this is the way I am”; he was shy and timid as a teenager.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 24:54 in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God so the kingdom of God is in our midst it’s it’s around us it’s near us God is walking by the spirit is coming by and we have to take up the opportunity to grab that water vapor out of the air blessed are the poor in spirit do we recognize our need for God that’s what it’s saying it’s not blessed are the poor because I don’t have a big bank account it’s talking about those who recognize their need for Christ for the living water some of us can’t uh admit that we need God that we need his living water that we need his change and so it’s important you can have somebody who’s rich and they are poor in spirit because they recognize their need for God.

▶ 25:59 Psalm 24:7 lift up your heads lift you gates be lifted up you ancient doors that the king of glory may come in and so just like the water vapor is next to the grass the kingdom of God is near us there has to be a interaction there has to be a reaction between the grass and the water vapor there has to be a reaction between you and between the spirit of God. You between you and Jesus Christ there has to be some interaction you’re not going to get anything until you do.

▶ 26:50 Something lift up your heads you gates so a gate is like a barrier we have have to remove the barriers that have that we have up that God can’t get through remember we have free will right we have a choice God has given us a choice in Revelation says he comes and he knocks on our door he’s knocking on your door today and you have to decide if you’re going to open up the door the gate right it’s a barrier it’s something that keeps uh God out and you have to decide am I going to keep God out or am I going to open the door and let him in and simply the way you open the door is to open your mouth if you confess with your mouth he’s faithful and just to forgive you if you praise when you praise God he.

▶ 27:45 Comes be lifted up you ancient doors well you don’t understand I wasn’t born that way that this is the way I am this is the way I’ve been doing it for years this is the way I’ve been doing it for 80. Years I’ve never shown expressed emotion I’ve been a strong. Man these are this is my ways and I’m not changing. Them and Psalms is saying that’s ancient get rid of your stupid ancient doors. That you have up because you’re blocking the king of glory from coming. In we have to surrender to God we have to submit.

▶ 28:45 Ourselves to. God as a teenager I was shy I was timid for. Years you know you could say that’s ancient you know that was my ancient for years I was shy and timid I was afraid I was scared to you know when you got other there’s so much peer pressure as a teenager especially when you’re a young teen you got older teens they like you know you’re laughing at you you’re just kind of like I just want to sit in the corner over. Here but you have to ride we got to rise above that we got to rise above all of our uh pressures. Amen we got to get over it and I did get over it and I found that God was worth the what I thought was embarrassment.

▶ 29:42 Amen and it took time but it grew more and more and now I have no. Problem well I mean in certain things. Jesus said in a loud voice let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink again like I said we have there must be an interaction between us and Christ you’ve got to come to him you have to drink you’ve got to press the water button you you’ve got to figure out how can I uh receive what he is offering you’re not going to get it by sitting back by not coming to church not seeking him by not prostrating yourself by not opening up your mouth see these are the thing right here here they are you know these are just one reference th this is all over the Bible okay there’s one scripture reference right Psalms 634 all over it’s all over the Bible these things and these are are these are ways to interact and react with Christ and I tested this out last night I went to my room my son’s room and I start singing and I’m start praying and I went with

What flows from believers?

▶ Watch this part (31:12)

Short answer: Rivers of living water; love bears and believes all things.

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 31:12 a goal of okay I need to have an interaction a reaction so that I can get some do I want some do right now and it worked I could feel the spirit of God it was powerful and it you know it encourages me for the day and now I can get living water every day it’s available for us every day and that water can keep us alive and thriving and producing fruit and keeping. Going every day and we don’t have to wait for the next torrent of rain or the next rainstorm of of God you know and that’s going to be a wonderful thing but we also that do has what we need we have to make that interaction with Jesus.

▶ 32:13 Christ whoever believes in me as the scripture said rivers of living water will flow from within. Them as my uh worship team comes or as miss woods comes. Psalms 956 come let us bow down in worship let us kneel before the Lord our maker the scriptures encourage us to humble ourselves you know the one one of the ways we can interact with that that water that dew that water vapor is to humble ourselves are we humbling ourselves do we come to Jesus do we come you know I I just had to go in a room I just had to kneel on the ground I grab my guitar because that’s one of the ways to worship right instruments of music you may kneel you may get prostrate yourself you’ve got to do something to react with that water vapor in the air that spirit of God that is always there you know Jesus he’s almost walked by the disciples in the boat and he’s walking on water he almost would have passed them by though on the road to emus they he almost just kept walking on but they stopped and constrained him and said don’t go any.

▶ 33:36 Further we have to have that kind of grabbing of Christ the heavens shall give their due but you are not willing to come to me that you may have life we have to be willing to come to. Christ I hope that we I hope I was able to convey this due and how important it is this. Morning but just to reiterate that living water is available for us every day it’s available for us every day if we’re willing to humble ourselves if we’re willing to seek our God if we’re willing to stop what we’re doing give God our time and our attention seek him for a purpose and let his spirit feed us and and give us that drink we don’t have to wait for the rain we you know many of us can remember the times that we met Jesus on a you know on a big scale big rain oh man I remember that day I remember where I was I remember the situation I remember what happened but you don’t want to be living off of that experience you want to live off of the water that Jesus has for you today amen.

▶ 34:53 Amen 1 Corinthians 13:7 as I was as as we were already saying this morning that love bears all things believes all things hopes all things endures all things love never. Quits are we willing to believe all things and in particular this process of growth that God has for us the seed the fruit the increase the du do we hope in his word. Are we enduring this process of that fruit growing in our lives are we willing to never quit as Christians.

How does the service close?

▶ Watch this part (35:47)

Short answer: Communion, “Fill my cup, Lord,” prayer for good and noble hearts and for needs, and “Here’s my heart.”

From the sermonTranscript of this part · Michael Silla

▶ 35:47 Amen God is asking us this morning and I’m going to take time here um first we’re going to take communion. And then we’re going to have a time where we invite God this morning we’re going to have a time where we try to convert that. Vapor into do. Amen as they pass out the uh communion cups we want to remind you in 1 Corinthians. 11:24 Jesus said take eat this is my body which has been broken for you do this in remembrance of me it also says in another scripture that you show forth my death.

▶ 36:39 Uh to the world when we when we do this communion we’re reminding the world Jesus died on the cross he rose from the g grave we believe in it we acknowledge it and that’s what we’re doing this morning so we’re going to take the communion cups together. Romans 12:5 says we we being many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another God’s we are the body of Christ. Amen so let’s take this bread together and I’m going to have somebody pray for the body this morning and will you stand with me as we do this at respect for God and his death on the cross for our sin amen uh lori will you pray for the bread this.

▶ 37:35 Morning you might have to bend it down and up and then try to get that piece off the top there. Let’s bow our heads this. Morning you for your body given to us broken for us and remance of you father we are all one body.
